1 Cute video for teaching numbers 1 - 5
Unlike most of the Baby Eistein videos that show toys, puppets, spinning things, etc for really no reason at all, this video at least has a purpose for showing all of those kinds of things. For the number 1, they start with a puppet scene and a little poem. Julie Clark is the narrator and if you have read any of my other Baby Einstein reviews, you'll know I do not care her voice at all (sorry Julie!). But, if you can get past that, then it's a pretty good dvd.
After this little puppet scene they show 1 apple, 1 duck, 1 cup and then they show all kinds of things for the number one (a toy, a flower, an animal, etc). There is lots of live-action video here. One little thing that bugs me is that the number 1 should just be a straight line, not with the little thing at the top which makes it look similar to a 7. I mean, these videos are for our little children and we should teach them how to properly write their numbers.
Each number, from 1 to 5, has about 5 minutes of video for it. For the number 2 they will have a puppet scene again with a poem, then show 2 apples, 2 ducks and 2 cups (these 3 items are shown for each number) and then this is followed by things in two's. There could be a little more speaking of the numbers when they show these things, I think.
At first I thought I wasn't going to like this dvd because it only goes to the number 5. But, my little girls is only 18 months and can't even really count to 2 yet, so I guess a video that goes up to 5 is a good place to start. For beyond the number 5 you might want to check out Baby Brainy 123's (I have a review for that too).
On the Main Menu for the dvd there are some really nice added features. There are Discovery Cards (these say the numbers 1 - 10 in 7 different languages), there are Count-Along Activities, How Many?, and See & Spy Counting Book. I don't know if the vhs video version would have these bonus features. If they don't then the vhs is really lacking in some good added activities.
Despite a few little negative things (Julie's voice, the number 1 looking like a 7, etc), which caused me to only give this 4 stars, I ended up purchasing this one for my daughter. This one along with Baby Neptune (water), Baby Galileo (sky), and Baby Newton (shapes) are the only Baby Einstein videos that I personally like. For the rest of the Baby Einstein videos.......well, I am sorry but I just can't believe how they have become so popular. I have written reviews for all of them.
2 1-5 counting exercise for toddlers
this video will help your toddler count to 5 using visuals and other kids and make it all very fun and entertaining. i recommend this for kids without the knowledge of numbers, for a more helpful and entertaining way to learn. my son is almost four and he is a little bit past this. i had to search for the videos and dvd that go to higher numbers. if you child is just beginning to learn to count, or you are planning to introduce numbers to him/her, this is a wonderful way to help the learning process. i highly recommend this video and all the others in the einstein series.
3 My daughter loves this!
My daughter will not sit still to watch anything, except this. I love that she'll watch it and it will actually teach her something. She is 16 months old.
4 Counting is fun!
My 17-month old has had this DVD for a few months now and she loves it! She repeats the numbers as they are spoken on the video and she likes to identify the images and toys as they show on the screen. We often sit with her to watch it and count out loud with her. She enjoys counting everything now -- her toes, my toes, the ladybugs on her pajamas, the pieces of chicken on her plate...
5 love it!
My daughter is 23 months old. We have many of the Baby Einstein products. "Numbers Nursery" is one of our favorites. It really holds her attention and she is learning her numbers as well. The puppets are wonderful and the scene with the 3 race cars is priceless...she applauds this every time!
6 My sons favorite
We have six DVD's in the Baby Einstein series and this one is my sons favorite by far. Do not be fooled by the recommended age of 1+. Jake is almost six months old and he loves it. We have been counting to him since he was born. I think the difference that really gets his attention in this video is that it is not only music, but also talking. He is completely engrossed in it for the duration of the video and he smiles the second he sees and hears it. I agree with some reviewers that counting only up to five is somewhat basic for toddlers. Get your moneys worth and get this video while your child is a baby and you can grow with the video and use the bonus material(dicovery cards and counting games) when your child becomes a toddler.
7 Catches baby's attention, I enjoy watching it with him!
My son is 9 months, so I thought maybe the numbers were a little early for him. I popped it in the other day to just check it out for myself, and baby was actually very interested. He obviously doesn't understand the concept of numbers yet, but he enjoys Julie's voice telling the little stories, and counting items and the music is cute too. We have a few other DVDs (Mozart, Bach, Beethoven, Neptune) but this one is our favorite of the moment. We will definitely use it in a few more months when it's time to teach him numbers. This is a playful way of making him count. It will obviously come in completement to playing with him and making him count with real objects. It's just an additional way of exposing him to those things. And I know that while I am getting dressed he is not screaming in his play pen, or getting bored in an exersaucer, or getting in trouble somewhere, he is safely enjoying music and cute images.
8 Love the Learning...Nice New Twist for Baby Einstein
I'm a big fan of Baby Einstein videos for the most part. We own most of them and have watched them countless times. My daughter (now 20 months) has lost interest in them now. She was most drawn to them from 8-15 months I think.
But I was thrilled to see this one come out and got it thinking it would be more "educational" than the others seem to be. I was right. I really like how this one goes through the numbers, counting, sequence, etc. The puppets, music, objects, format just seems to make more sense than some of the other more "out there" ones.
Best of all, my daughter loved it and quickly learned to count from 1-5. My only regret was that 5-10 wasn't out (and still isn't)! I'd also love to see an A-Z one! The other new one Baby McDonald is pretty good and slightly different than the "traditional" format too. My daughter asked for "mcdonalds" almost every day for a month after we first got it!
And like another reviewer said, be sure to check out the other choices on the DVD, especially if your child seems bored with just the video. You can find lots of other learning/fun things on each one too!
9 One of her favorites
Next to Beethoven this is her favorite Einstein video. It is really interesting how some she won't watch and others she loves. This is one she adores.
10 Baby Einstein Numbers Nursery
ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!!! I own all of the titles, and feel that this is certainly the best one for toddlers age 1 and up. When my daughter turned 19-months old she could count to 5, thanks to this video (of course I recommend the use of books, fridge magnets, and counting as you walk, etc.) but if you need 25 minutes to prepare dinner and would like for your child to get some educational fun in, this is it. Once she was too familiar with the main video, I clicked on 'Bonus Material' to discover that it was loaded with additional videos, counting games, discovery games and even flash cards for numbers 1 - 10 in 7 languages, which is perfect for our English/French bilingual household. Within 3 days, she was counting to 10! Now if only there were a part 2 that would count to 20.
11 Great learning tool-
This has been a wonderful addition to our kid-viewing library! I purchased this because we're starting to get into correctly identifying numbers and quantities, and because our son has really enjoyed many of the Baby Einstein series. What a great decision! I like the fact that they repeat some of the same items for each number, so toddlers get the see the quantity grow-ex: one cup, two cups, etc. I disagree with some of the earlier reviews that wish that the video had gone up to higher numbers- going to "5" was perfect. In my opinion, going to 10 would have meant rushing through each number, instead of using a lot of repetition to get the idea of truly counting across to toddlers. We've used this video as an extension of our teaching to our 2-year old. The puppet sequences are very good, too. There's one skit where the duck has two toy planes and won't share with his friend until the horse brings over two balls, and this gives me a chance to talk about sharing with my son. Another skit has the three main puppets in a car race with each other that my son absolutely loves (although I find it a little long). Because of the combination of education and entertainment, our family gives this a bigs thumbs up! If you're really wanting it to help teach, I wouldn't use it for children younger than 18 months old, but if you're just looking for entertainment, I'm sure that younger is just fine.
12 The best one yet!
My 14 month old absolutly loves most of the baby enstein videos, but this one is by far her favorite. It moves fast enough through the scenes to keep her attention, has lots of kids, her favorite part, and great upbeat music she can dance to. Granted, it does only count to 5, i would have thought they would have gone to 10, but they do it in interesting ways, showing items and toys from every day. The video appears clearer than the previous movies as does the sound. all in all i highly recommend.
13 Another winner!
My 15 month old is a tough critic of baby videos. He'll only watch the Baby Einstein collection. Numbers Nursery quickly became a favorite of the whole family because of the wonderful puppet sequences. It's humorous, educational and entertaining. By far the best numbers video we've come accross.
14 Wonderful DVD
My son is 17 months old and just recenlty started to really enjoy watching Baby Einstein's DVDs. The DVDs are usually checked out from the library, but I am going to buy this one! I think that Numbers Nursery is one of the best ones - it is educational and holds my very active toddlers attention. Also, if like me, you were given a Baby Einstein DVD when your baby was an infant (below the recommended age) and the baby did not seem interested - try again! My son really enjoys this DVD.
15 Okay, but others are better!
This DVD is educational, but not as captivating as Baby Beethoven, at least for my young toddler. Baby Beethoven provides more music and action. This one is okay, but probably best for toddlers who are at least 18 months old. It is fairly slow paced but it does do a good job teaching numbers and counting. I enjoy watching Baby Beethoven more, too! It's good if you can enjoy (or at least tolerate) the videos you buy for your kids, because you'll be watching and listening to them over and over. This one doesn't have as much parent-appeal, altho it does provide more opportunity for interaction.
16 Well Loved
My 21 month old loves all the Baby Einstein videos and this one is no exception. It really helped with the concept of the numbers and he loves pointing out everything in the video even to the point of telling me what's coming up. He loves being an active participant while watching the videos and this is no exception. I like the feel and flow of it, more like the earier ones. I would of liked the numbers to go higher, but it's fine how it is done. I have no problem when he asks to watch it.
17 2 years old loves
My 2 year old LOVES this video! It's a great start to learning your numbers in a fun way!
18 not their best effort
This video does not hold my 15 month old daughter's interest. The package says from age 1, but I think that may be too young.
19 Awesome addition to Baby Einstein Series
My daughter loves this DVD. It uses real life objects to show numbers and is captivating for both adults and children alike.
20 Captivating
My 18 month old daughter loves this video. She now easily counts to 5 and has picted up extra vocabulary words as well. The DVD version is great, especially if you have the numbers book your child can read along with the video. The best part is that it has some humor so adults enjoy it too.
21 Babies of all ages love Baby Einstein
My son has been watching baby einstein movies since he was 1 month old. He LOVES these movies. He has always intently watched the movies laughing and interacting as best as a baby can. He is now 10 months and Numbers Nursery has been a wonderful learning tool for him. It opens up his mind to understanding colors & numbers. He hasn't cared for Elmo or Teletubbies yet. Baby Einstein provides a wonderful learning expirence for your child and allows you to at least get some laundry done!
22 Once again, a top-of-the-line product!
We are so pleased with our collection of Baby Einstein products, and this video has certainly proven the excellent quality of the Baby Einstein company once again! Our son, 20 months, is learning to count and recognize colors, and we owe his quick learning in part to Baby Einstein. We watch this video as a family and count, say colors, and have a wonderful time learning. It truly is a great tool for educating the young mind. The puppets are lively, and fun to watch - and of course, the music and sounds "make" the video. Thank you!
23 Excellent DVD
We own several Baby Einstein DVD's and this one, as well as Baby Shakespeare, are my 14 month old sons' favorite videos. He will walk into a TV room and run up to the television, insisting either one to be played. The puppets play a large part in this video, along with other children. There are also various puppets included, instead of only 1 or 2. For these reasons, he really enjoys them. They are extremely educational and fun to watch. Of all the Baby Einstein videos,Nursery Numbers and Baby Shakespeare are the ones to get if your child is 1 year and older. These are the only vidoes my extremely active son will actually sit down and watch! I have bought this video for 2 girlfirends who have 1 year olds. I strongly recommend both of them.
24 Excellent.
We love the Baby Einstein videos and this is no exception. My two year-old calls it the "Tiger 1-2-3" video. He already could count but didn't recognize the numbers when he saw them. That changed after day one of watching Numbers Nursery. We bought this for him and he watched it over and over and over the first week. Now we watch it once every other day or so. He loves it and counts along with the children. His favorite parts involve the animals, of course. I do wish they had used the numbers 6-10 though. He learned 1-5 so quickly. I think even taking it to 20 would have been good. Otherwise, great video.
25 The stuff that makes Baby Einstein so great!!!
My 15-month-old daughter LOVES this one and it is certainly educational. Perhaps Disney's influence on the series had made the previous few videos more slick with cartoon characters, complex puppets and corny songs (i.e., Baby Neptune, Galileo and Newton). But this video goes back to more simplistic and magical style of the first videos. I am happy to see that Julie Clark, or someone at the Baby Einstein Company, has realized that there was no need to change the format!!
26 Dalton's Mama
Numbers Nursery is number one! I bought this on a whim & am so glad I did. My son is only 5 months old but is transfixed by the music and colors. He gets excited, waves his arms, and babbles along. My husband was skeptical that our son reacted this way until he saw it for himself. This was money well spent! I plan to buy more Baby Einstein products. These would make great gifts for a baby shower.
27 That's the stuff
This offering returns to the look and sound which originally sparked the success of the series. There has clearly been a lesson learned from the completely unwatchable failure of Baby Newton. Babies Neptune and Gallileo edged back to the formula of success, and now, Numbers Nursery seems to have closed the circle, comfortably returning to the style which made Baby Einstein so special. I agree with those who are happy to find evidence of Julie Clark's influence in the writing and presentation. There is the sense that she has returned to save the series. It seems that she has.
28 Good Buy
Good video, great music and a good start to teaching numbers. I just wish they would come out with a video for the numbers 6-10.
29 The Best
Now that my daughter is two I thought I would stop buying the Baby Einstein series. On a whim, I purchased Numbers Nursery. This is by far one of the best Baby Einstein videos! Even though my daughter already counts way past 5, this video helps her conceptualize the numbers. She calls the video "tiger numbers" and loves the characters - especially the horse. She belly laughs when he eats a flower. We have been collecting many of the items from the video around the house so that we can count along with the tape - for example, we find 5 apples and count when they come up on the tape. It is very interactive and fun. I highly recommend this video along with the other Baby Einstein classics. Thanks Julie!
30 Looks pleasantly more like Julie's stuff!
Since my disappointment with Baby Neptune and Baby Galileo it seems as if this new video has finally returned to the original Baby Einstein style. The images are simple and the old puppets are back! My son really enjoyed it, though the beginning was a bit slow. The poems were very cute, and it was great to hear Julie's voice again (which my baby loves!) My biggest complaint was that they didn't teach numbers to ten. A good buy, though.
31 Numbers Nursery VHS is Mesmerizing
My 19 month old is absolutely fascinated by the Numbers Nursery. She loves numbers and this video not only supplies learning the numbers and the words for the numbers, but also the Braille for the numbers. If your child enjoys counting to ten, be sure to note that there is no bonus material on the VHS version, even though it is on the table of contents...A great disappointment. I can't wait for the 5 - 10 video to come out...hint, hint!
32 A Welcome Return to Form
Now THIS is more like it!
This DVD clearly illustrates the numbers one to five, in a clear, fun format, with music, great visuals, and logical format. The graphics are simple and uncluttered, the toys are new, and the puppets are not doing the same things over and over again.
It teaches not only counting, but also reading, and this is the first time in the series that the bonus material is as good as, or better than, the main feature.
The main feature runs nearly 30 minutes, exactly as stated on the box, and the bonus material doubles the fun.
An essential Baby Einstein DVD to jump start your child.
33 Hooray for the Tiger Tape!
Like many parents, we own all of the Baby Einstein videos. Baby Bach and Baby Einstein are the only two my kids never enjoyed. Numbers Nursery is another HIT!
Disney has finally been smart enough to go back to Julie Aigner-Clark's original Einstein concept. What made Baby Einstein so special in the first place was that it was so simple. Babies don't need special effects and computer-based graphics - such as in Baby Newton - ugh!
Both my 11-month old daughter and 2 1/2 year old son love this tape. Yes, it would be nice if it went higher than five, but the point of the tape is not to teach your children how to count. That's your job. It's educational entertainment, or so I like to think.
If your kids love Baby Einstein as much as I do, they are going to love Numbers Nursery.
34 Great video - Entertained my 23 month old
My daughter has been a big fan of the Baby Einstein video series and we have nearly all of the videos. This one has gone back to the B.E. earlier videos, in using some familiar puppets from previous videos and has the typical classical music playing while showing one toy. I watched it with my daughter as a before bedtime video and she sat with me the entire time and didn't move. When they counted she would hold up a few fingers to show me "how many" and when I asked her if she liked her video, she nodded yes.
Sure it would be nice if they went a bit higher in the numbers, but this isn't supposed to replace me teaching my daughter how to count. It's an entertaining video and helps associate one-two-three with how many objects are in front of her. I highly recommend this video for your younger child and also for those children who are my daughter's age and are big fans of the baby einstein videos.
35 entertaining and educational
Baby Einstein: Numbers Nursery manages to be entertaining while teaching numbers 1 to 5. We have almost all of the Baby Einstien DVD series and this one is similar with a mix of puppets skits(well done), animal scenes, and cute kids(with a more diverse mix of boys and girls and ethnic groups). For kids over 12 months.
36 Terrific!
I purchased this DVD the day it came out, hoping it would intrigue our 15-month-old on a 10-hour car trip. It worked - she loved it! She really likes the puppets, and was very excited to see a ladybug puppet. It's a great way to teach the first 5 numbers to young ones, and done very simply and with a lot of charm. I think that people who complained about the previous releases being too "new" will love this one more - it has some of the simpler appeal of the older ones while combining some of the better qualities of the newer ones. It also has great music too. We all love this new addition!
37 Cute, but has some flaws
We are definitely a Baby Einstein household. I received the first 11 DVDs as a baby gift from a *very* generous friend. My daughter starting watching them as early as seven weeks old. They held her attention even at that point. She likes some better than others (Baby Beethoven and Baby Neptune are favorites). I picked up this latest one when I was Christmas shopping. We watched it this morning for the first time. I'd definitely say it's more in the style of the older videos... less video footage and more "toys in motion" kind of stuff. She seemed to enjoy it and it definitely kept her attention (she never took her eyes away from the TV).
My major complaint is that for a DVD that's supposed to be an introduction to numbers, only introducing the numbers 1-5 seems a little silly. Even Sesame Street goes up to 20. The box says that "Numbers Nursery" is intended for 1 year and up. I'd say it seems more something for even earlier than that. My daughter is now 6 months old and it's about perfect for her. If they wanted it to have appeal to a later age range (up to 2-3 years for example) they needed to include a lot more than the number 1-5.
Overall though it's still an enjoyable addition to our Baby Einstein collection.
38 Another Great Addition to the Baby Einstein Collection
LOVE this DVD. Our 2 year old already knew his numbers, but we got this episode anyway, and he was ecstatic to see the counting on t.v. in an easy/entertaining format. He quickly began shouting out the upcoming answers.
I only wish that they would go beyond number 5 - maybe to #20 would have been better. Either way, it's worth adding to your Baby Einstein DVD collection!
