1 Excellent Book
This books provides honest solid advice. Unlike most so-called college guides, this one was not written by a book mill, but an author who understands the complexities of being a college student. Well done. Bravo! I can't recommend it enough. If I may, I would like to suggest a book to buy in addition to this one:
College 101: The Book Your College Does Not Want You To Read (ISBN: 0966412206)
College 101 may not be as polished as Been There Done That, but it does provide a complete picture of the college experience from a first person point of view, that is brutally honest. It shows the college experience warts and all!
Buy these two books together and you will know everything you need to know about college!
2 I've should have read it soone
This book is great. I enjoyed reading it, and found it very interesting. I was thinking a good complement to this book would be, "How to find your dream job and make it a reality: solutions for a rewarding and meaningful career" by Jason McClure. If there I one thing I would have done different in college, it would be preparing for the job search afterwards.
Order both books and make the most of college career. Good luck...
3 Fantastic Book!
This book has more common sense, solid advice, and information than most college guides. A freshman would be well served keeping this book in his/her back pocket.
4 perfect for the recent high school grad...
I recieved the first edition of this handy little book upon graduating from high school and read it cover-to-cover in an evening.
The basic format of the book is a collection of quotes from college students giving helpful truisms concerning various areas of the college experience. The editing and format is easy to read and well suited to any incoming freshman or seasoned college student.
As someone who actively helped people find their way in college as a resident assistant, I can't recommend this book enough. It explodes myths that many incoming freshman have, such as: college is one huge party, professors will always be looking over my shoulder like high school, college is solely about academics, mommy and daddy need will take care of getting everything signed, paid for etc.
In short, its a perfect graduation gift.
5 Practical Tips for College Bound Freshmen
I buy this book every spring as a graduation gift for young friends who are college bound. No heavy reading required, it's full of quick, practical tips and helpful hints from other students who have been there before. I wish I had had something like this when I went off to college years ago. It would have saved the frustration of learning the hard way -- by experience.
6 Absolutely Invaluable!
Wow, I'm really glad I read this book... I bought it yesterday and read it in a single night, because all of the information is very engrossing and entertaining... it's really fun to read! It got me very excited for the college experience. I actually feel really bad for any students that don't come across this book, because there's some stuff in there that you would never think of to do... before it's too late! Like scheduling your classes with a map so that you don't have to run from opposite sides of the campus to get to class and a WHOLE lot more. There was so much stuff in there that I wanted to remember, that I went through and hilighted excerpts... which wound up to being about half of the whole book! Buy this book... for yourself, for a friend, for a son or daughter: anyone going to college! They'll thank you for it! I just hope I can find a copy of volume one!
7 Fun college guide!
This book was fun to read and provided a lot of useful tips for my freshman year. It's a great companion to another street-smart guide, The ABC's of College Life by Vicki Salemi. The ABC's packs a punch throughout your collegiate years, the same way Been There, Should've Done That helps you out your freshman year. I recommend both books for college freshmen and upperclassmen!
8 Necessity for a college kit
A very good read that will keep one's attention until the end. Although much of it will strike a chord as common sense, it naturally wouldn't dawn upon most for at least a year or more. Since Been There... is made up of quotes from college students, it reads more like a conversation. All the ideas are down to earth & they sound much better coming from those there than from adults who have been away for some time.
9 A great source for students, staff and parents...
Read what students say about their experience in college. This will give you honest answers to some of college's toughest questions! Captivating and motivating, as well as great insight to what college has to offer. Easy to read, and short qoutes will give you the answers you may be seeking.
10 Great college guide
As a senior at Harvard I've read a lot of books for college students and I found this book simple yet informative. It's tips from student's for student's. Short sweet and smart. I feel like this is a good book for college freshman but it didn't help me much after my first semester. I also purchased Major In Success by: Patrick Combs and I found it to be extremely helpful for making the most of all my college years. Major In Success is the perfect companion to this book.
11 Just as helpful as the first volume!
This book is a perfect little graduation gift for almost everyone on your list. I've been buying several copies of vol. I every June for the past few years, so I'm delighted to see "more tips." It's short & snappy, contemporary, but I also found myself saying, "Oh, yes, I'd forgotten about that! Some things about college never change!" (Even tho' it's been a generation plus since my graduation.)
12 Excellent! Funny + Honest
Now THIS is a really great little college book. It's literally filled with extremely useful advice from the first page to the last, all from the lips of college students who "learned" from their mistakes. Very fast and entertaining read as well, definitely an excellent buy for anybody about to enter college.
Just an extra note, this 505 tips for making college easier is similiar to the title "101 Things College girl should know" and "101 Things College guy should know."...this is a MUCH better buy for your money. The latter 2 books are the most useless excuses for books I've found...with tips like drink 8 glasses of water a day and...similiar common sense. Buy "505" instead, you'll be glad.
13 if you want a true perspective...
What I liked the best about the book is that it's told in students' own words -- students from a number of colleges commenting on topics ranging from how to schedule classes to handling homesickness to handling finances to getting along with that up-all-night roommate. You're getting the real scoop on college life from the people who are LIVING it, not what the admission literature says. As a student affairs professional, this is the kind of "quick read" resource I'm going to buy (on Amazon, of course) to make available to my students.
14 this book is good
I enjoyed this book so much read it in a day which wasn't hard because it was pretty light reading, this book offeded lot of tips on how to make college life easier. I am headed off to college in the fall and Ithink it will help.

16 Great gift for the graduate!
I've given this very informative book to high school graduates as gifts for the last two years. The information is an honest and plain language view of college experiences.
17 Definately Should Have Done THAT!
Wish I had this book my very first year. This book is full of great tips and fun to read. If you like this book you'll love "Major in Success", by Patrick Combs.
18 Great book, must read for anyone going to college
This book gives both sides of the story, it never says to do something or not to do something. All it has is advice and stories from other students who have been there, it still gives you the chance to try it on your own. After my first year of school this book really was great, its a must have for any college student or student to be.
19 Packed with info for surviving and thriving in college.
Face it: Kids listen to other kids more readily than to parents or teachers. That's the beauty of this little book. Just about all of its pithy advice -- on everything from coping with roommate troubles and campus crime to developing good study habits -- comes from college students themselves. Easy reading, it's the perfect book to send off with your favorite college students in the fall
20 Very informative on college life. A must for freshmen!
An excellent quick-read that gets straight to the heart of the matter when it comes to college life. It's only fault is that it is a little biased, ethnically, in the area of Greek life. African-American fraternities/sororities do not go through a rush period; the process is different in many respects.
21 Incredible wealth of information for college boundTT
This book, from cover to cover, has tip after tip for every new college student. The best thing is that this information has been compiled by college students from all over the country - and they know first hand all the important "stuff". A GREAT gift for college bound high school graduates.
