1 Advertizing claims much overstated
I thought that this would be handy device to let me share a printer between my iBook and my son's PC. How wrong I was. The manufacturer's claim "works with any USB printer" with both Windows and Macintosh is pure hype, Right off of the block, it doesn't work with any multifunction printer, something that the Buffalo tech support people will tell you from the start. And as near as I can tell, only printers that Apple supports by default work under OS X.
And to add insult to injury, the Buffalo technical support people can't even tell you what printers they *do* support. But be sure and call and ask, just in case.
2 worked great, very happy with this print server
so after looking for a reasonable priced print server the last year. I needed one that would hook up with a wireless lan, mac and XP.
found this unit worked great with detailed
instructions for setup and installation on all OS platforms. Found only
one error in the manual, covering installation and setup on the server using
the Mac OS.
But Buffalo tech support picked up the phone quickly! and answered the
question in one minute. amazing. I tried D-Link and IO gear and returned those. would work from a mac after setup from a window computer, but
no complete installation instructions from a mac.
I used a fix IP address for the print server, Gimp-print on the Mac, and TCP/IP
setup on my wireless laptop running XP to run and HP 3200 laserjet.
This unit had a very good instructions manual.
and I have nad no problems since installation 8 weeks ago.
