Todd Lammle | Todd Lammie
Designed as a portable review guide for the Cisco 640-403 Advanced Cisco Router Configuration examination, this title boils an enormous amount of material down to a series of bulleted lists and conceptual summaries.
CCNP Exam Notes: Advanced Cisco Router Configuration is a useful companion to more structured classroom study or Sybex's more intensive
Study Guide.
The small format paperback follows the stated objectives of the Cisco certification exam. Each chapter groups related objectives and drills down to present the important terms and concepts behind each of them. Although brief explanatory text accompanies each concept, the structure is best utilized as a jumping-off point for further study with other resources. The chapters frequently include a "Necessary Procedures" section that offers a brief list of the types of operations you should be prepared to perform. In this book, these procedures are most frequently router configuration commands.
Sample questions anchor each chapter, but there are usually only one or two to test your knowledge. As a review tool, this book complements the related Sybex Study Guide for this exam well. It's also a handy text for working network professionals who possess the knowledge but need a review for certification. --Stephen W. Plain
Topics covered: Network scalability, traffic and access management, VLSMs, OSPF, EIGRP, network to ISP implementation, WAN connectivity, DDR, bridging, and managing AppleTalk traffic.
1 Waste of money
I bought this book as a quick study guide before taking the ACRC exam (after failing with the CiscoPress ACRC book). I read only a few chapters and this is my view: This book contains many errors with some information being just plain wrong. They give command examples in abreviated form which is not allowed on the Cisco ACRC exam. Not a good thing to have stuck in your mind as you're heading for the exam. Ignore this book BTW: I did pass on the next shot at the ACRC exam after re-reading the CiscoPress book.
2 Good idea, bad execution
I studied Laemmle's CCNA exam notes for two days and passed the CCNA. Unfortunately, the ACRC exam notes book is not the same. It reads as if a non-technical person edited it. It seems every other page has an error - and typographical errors in a technical text can spell death when studying for an exam. I gave up on this one and went back to the Cisco Press certification guide. The CP book is a lot longer and more tedious, but at least I can rely on the information inside.
3 Excellent Overview
This book is an excellent overview for the ACRC exam. It doesn't go into great depth, but states the objectives and essential information clearly in addition to providing some sample questions. It is extermely well laid out and easy to comprehend. If read along with the course notes and the Cisco Press ACRC Exam Certification guide it will provide you with enough detail to pass the exam. Skim through it the night before the exam as a quick refresher !
4 this book is for review only
This book is for review only ,I think you won't be able to pass the exam with this book. You need to have other books to go more in depth. I was disappointed by the questions type which they were far too easy comparing to the real test. I passed the exam studying mainly in the official Cisco ACRC course.
5 Don't buy this book.........
My copy had an ENTIRE chapter missing, I discovered this after buying it. But the publisher made up for it I guess by giving me TWO Chapter 3's. This book barely covers what is important. You can find it all in the Chappell ACRC book. I'd highly recommend buying her text, not this one. I passed the ACRC on the first try by downloading the objectives from cisco's site, and reading the Chappell text. Lammle's Exam Notes for this test is definitely not a tool for success on this exam. Don't buy it.
6 I can't tell you what is on the ACRC exam, but..............
I will tell you that if somebody says the ACRC exam is the most difficult of the 4 CCNP exams, believe it. It was the exam of death, and thanks to the Chappell book, and a sliver of thanks to Lammle, I passed with an 854 yesterday morning. Lammle's ACRC book has little to offer and I don't recommend it, especially when my copy has an ENTIRE chapter missing! But the publisher made up for it by giving me TWO chapter 3's. LAME is how I rate the Exam Notes book. Download the objectives off the Cisco site, buy Chappell's book and you will pass the ACRC. Lammle's CCNA book and Exam Notes are all you need to pass that exam, but this one seemed rushed, and definitely is not a tool for success for this exam.
7 Not on the mark
I used this book among others. The book does not contain the necessary depth and breadth to pass the ACRC test.
8 Full of errors and unorganized
I purchased this book as a final study guide before taking the exam. I found it to be unorganized and full of errors. It looks like this book was rushed. I even noticed some paragraphs that were copied exactly from the CCNA exam notes. I believe the ACRC Exam guide by Cisco Press is a much better book.
9 Don't rely on this book for the exam
This book has so many error. I don't understand one of reader said " NO errors and very good text". Both ARCR exam notes and Study guide have a lot of error. The author even doesn't understand address summarization.
10 Off the Mark
This book is a good carry-round book for studying during lunch or on a trip, but it is off the mark from what you need to know to pass the test. Purchase this book only if you have other resources, specifically, ACRC from Cisco. I was dissapointed only because Lammle's CCNA book was exceptional and I was expecting the same.

11 I studied primarily from this book and failed
First off, I felt there were many errors in this book. However, I don't think the errors as a whole really contributed to me not passing. The ACRC test is truly hard, and for someone without that much experience even harder. I thought this book would have given all I needed to know, however a number of the questions on the exam(especially one fill in) wasn't even in the book. I wish I had taken the advice of a friend who told me to focus on the actual course material most of all. Duh, I thought I could simplify and just read this book. Overall I like Lammle's writing, but this time I don't think he covered all the bases as well as he did in his CCNA exam notes book. -Andy Crefeld, a_crefeld@yahoo.com
12 Great book, got to the point and I passed the ACRC.
Make sure and understand that the ACRC exam is by far the hardest exam in the ACRC series. This Sybex Notes book made it possible to pass the exam the first time. I studied the book for three days before the exam.
13 NO errors and very good text.
This is a very well written book. Todd has added info not supplied in his Study Guide. I would recommend both his ACRC Study Guide and his ACRC Notes book. Get some routers and practice the commands. This is a tough test, but I passed using the Sybex material.
14 Passed ACRC - Book Only minor help
This book contains many errors. Some information is also just wrong. They give command examples in abreviated form which cisco will not allow on the exam. Not very deep technically.
15 I didn't find any mistakes.
I read this book and the ACRC Study guide, both by Todd Lammle. The Notes book had fixed the errors I found in the study guide. Why does Amazon allow the competitors to trash the competition? It seems to me that all the reviews on Amazon are rigged, both good and bad, and expecially the bad ones. How can I tell if a book is really good or bad by reading reviews written by the competition of another book? I read the ACRC Notes book and found it a very good book. But, by reading the reviews from someone who won't put there name in, I would have thought this is a bad book and not bought it. That would have been a mistake. Amazon needs to fix their system to stop this non-sense.
16 No! A mistake! Oh no another one! Oh my lord one more?
As another reviewer said, Todd's CCNA Exam Notes is very good (I used it for 2.5 weeks to pass the test) but this one just has way too many mistakes! So is the full version too!
Orphy! :-)
17 I passed the ACRC exam.
I only used this book and the Sybex ACRC Study Guide to study for my test and passed the ACRC exam the first time. Cheers!
18 I passed the ACRC and this book made it possible.
I appreciated the way Todd wrote the ACRC exam notes book. All of the cisco stated objectives were addressed in order within a concise, understandable format. By reading 25-50 pages a day over 10 days I had a manageable and comprehensive review. Coupled with hands on router experience/self-study exercises I felt confident going into this exam. Passing my ACRC exam on the first attempt felt great. I had the same results with the CCNA exam and the CCNA exam notes book that Todd Lammle published. Even though the format and content may change in the future, Todd covers the basics and practical Internetworking material that won't change. On a side note the copy I originally ordered had problems. I wrote Todd email letting him know. Between him and his editor Linda Lee, my issue was resolved in time for my exam date, within two weeks of first writing. I can't thank Todd enough for the series and Sybex (Linda Lee) for their support. I will review the CIT exam notes when I receive it and take that exam also. Thanks again Todd, The CCNP doesn't seem such a distant a goal anymore!
19 Great little book. I used this with the Sybex Study Guide
If you use this with the Sybex ACRC Study Guide, you'll pass the exam no problem. It had everything we needed at my work to pass all three of the techs here. I am very pleased with the Sybex series of Cisco books.
20 Has everything needed for the exam.
Pass the ACRC exam with this book. I did. Had everything I needed in a three day study.
21 Best on the market for ACRC!
I bought this book and the Sybex ACRC Study Guide. This book is a great fill-in for the OSPF section that is weak in the Study Guide. Get this book and pass the exam- I did!
22 Great Book, recommend all of his other works as well.
Todd not only has developed a wonderful guide for CCNA but two of the books needed for the CCNP. I can only hope he will finish the series for the CCNP
23 too many mistakes
This book may work as an exam notes, but essentially it useless, because you will need a lot more to pass the test and you need to verify almost every page. Too many mistakes and printouts of router configurations without explanation for such small book. Too bad, because Todd's CCNA book is very good. Tony, CNE, MCSE, CCNA.
