High speed, sharp resolution, and economical ink refills: Could you ask for more in a home printer? The Canon PIXMA ip3000 is designed with 1,600 nozzles that produce tiny 2-picoliter droplets, resulting in finely detailed images that are worthy of saving in your family photo albums. Pigment-based inks insure colors will stay true, and the prints are resistant to water, fading, and smudges.
Precision Color Distribution Technology
Unlike other systems, nozzle configuration in Bubble Jet printers is simple, so it is easier to make them smaller and more dense. Using its superior semiconductor manufacturing technology, Canon has succeeded in developing an ultrahigh-precision, multinozzle print head. The problem of color inconsistency has been solved by positioning a mirror-image line of 128 nozzles (600 dpi pitch for each color) at a half-pitch offset from the existing line. This configuration also provides the added advantage of enabling high-resolution printing at 1,200 dpi.
Easy-PhotoPrint v3.0
While most photo-editing software applications will brighten the entire image, Easy-PhotoPrint 3.0 accurately detects the subject's face and adjusts the skin to the optimum tone. Brighten dark faces caused by bright backgrounds. Choose from one-click automatic to correct the entire image all at once, or manual to correct just a selected area.

Easy-PhotoPrint 3.0 also lets you select and print any image on your PC, perfectly trim images, correct images using lab-quality retouching features, correct red-eye, smooth facial lines and skin tone, sharpen faces, remove blemishes, and print in a variety of sizes and layouts.
Exif Print Technology
Exif 2.2 is the worldwide printer independent standard for digital image processing. Under Exif 2.2, the digital still camera can record data tags for specific camera settings and functions such as whether the flash was on or off, if the camera was in landscape, portrait or night scene mode, etc. Referencing some or all of this information, an Exif Print compatible application can process digital camera images intelligently based on specific camera settings and the shooting environment.

With resolution up to 600 x 600 dpi black and 4,800 x 1,200 dpi color, your office documents or school reports will look as good as your photos. Built-in two-sided printing reduces your paper costs and allows you truly professional design options.
This printer can connect directly to select digital cameras. Learn more about PictBridge. |
Top speeds of 22 ppm black and 15 ppm color (draft mode) will have your pages in hand in just a few seconds; a borderless 4-by-6-inch photo can take as little as 36 seconds--as fast as those old instant cameras, but with much better quality. Thanks to the PictBridge-compatible direct print port, you can connect your digital camera and churn out photos while bypassing your computer system.
The ip3000 is compatible with Mac and Windows operating systems, and requires only a USB cable to get it up and running (cable not included). Canon provides a one-year warranty covering parts and service.

1 great printer
ordered this printer on wednesday, received saturday. tested it out after easy installation of ink tanks and downloading software, which was easy to follow the instructions. used in combination with my canon A75, I'm impressed with how great a photographer I turned out to be. (joke). the pictures are sharp, colorful, and I look forward to lots of creative fun in my future wanderings around town. purchased new for $45 plus s/h. wow! from your seller Xinning. he is very helpful and great to deal with.
2 3 hours later
I just got off the phone with Canon customer service who after 2 hours of reinstalling my software finally determined that the printer head was faulty and they are sending me a new one in the mail. They were helpful but now it's 9:00 and I've spent about 3 hours total setting up a printer that still doesn't work. It's just that I have to get up early to go to work and my evening is shot so thanks guys. I also wish I had seen the review mentioning newegg.com has these printers for 64. (44 after the 20 rebate) I could have saved 25 bucks and 2 hours screwing around with a defective item.
3 Great printer and works fine.
Maybe some folks have had problems, but not me. I run Windows 2000. I installed the printer according to the instructions and all worked perfectly. Using the included photo paper, I printed a photo at highest print quality. It looks as good as one could ask for.
I don't know what went wrong with some of the other people, but I could not ask for a better printer. I am 100% satisfied.
4 This Printer is the Best!
This printer is so hot! I like the gray design because it looks very sleek and stylish. The picture quality though is the best thing about this printer! The quality is amazing and so clear, by far the best I have ever seen from any photo printer! The past reviewers are right, some of the pictures far exceed the quality found in photo shops. I would definitely recommnend this buy for anyone. Especially with the $70 rebate you can recieve if you buy a powershot digital camera! I love this printer, it is truly the best one i've ever had!
5 Printer DOA
The printer arrived with Amazon's usual good service, but the printer is unusable. The printer refuses to print without the inner door shut... even though the inner door is as shut as it can get.
Having said that, Canon have just agreed to send out a new printer, gratis. :-(
6 Wonderful printer
Despite being probably the cheapest printer I have ever bought, it is definitely the best! (...)Don't let the ugly-duckling looks put you off.
Printing of text and photos is blazingly fast. It must be 3 or 4 times faster than my old Epson Photo 925. It has both a paper hopper on top, and a paper tray. You can stick photo paper in the tray, and leave plain paper up top. The tray also makes it easy to print on small paper, like 4x6".
Leave both hopper and tray loaded, and print from the hopper with your normal apps, using the included photo printer application to print to the tray. It's all pretty fool-proof.
Photo quality is superb. I hadn't expected that. It's literally indistinguishable from what you get at a photo shop. But the speed and quietness of printing are equally impressive.
The front paper exit door can be closed when not in used, reducing the footprint somewhat. The nicest, most trouble-free printer I've ever owned. Amazing.
7 I couldn't install the driver
I couldn't install the driver on my laptop. I searched on the internet and asked the Canon company service through phone, so far I still couldn't install it yet. It seemed that a lot of people had similar problem with Canon printers (maybe with other brands too). So the print quality is poor probably because I couldn't adjust it (the printer is supposed to be calibrated after installing the driver).
The process to make the installation work was really frustrated.
8 "Nothing could be this good...this one is!"
With so many positive reviews, I, an HP user all my life, had to try one to believe it. I believe it. I now own three of them.
I cannot add much to what has already been said. Here's what hit home with me:
1. The price. Darn, this thing can be had for cheap!
2. The name. Canon has always been quality 1.
3. The dual paper source. Spare cassette means you never run out!
4. The ink. Multiple inks--easy to replace one, and cheap! (Of course, I've had it three months and haven't had to replace one tank yet!)
5. Duplex printing! Amazing feature--fun to watch...& works!
6. Not ONE paper jam yet! (Hear that, HP??????) Unbelievable!
7. Output quality--text is great, and those 4x6 photos are like NOTHING I ever saw on an HP printer! They really ARE store quality!
I couldn't be happier with a product that really wasn't too good to be true! Thank you, Canon!
9 Where should I start...???
Running the printer on Mac OS 10.3.8. Installed the driver, then installed the Easy-PhotoPrint software. Minutes later I'm printing borderless 4x6 prints that look absolutely awesome. Installed the driver and software on another printer in the house that's on my wireless network, plugged the printer into this computer and started printing wirelessly, using the Canon software (I read some where about this printer not supporting network printing in OS X).
Then printed out a 2 page Word document, click on the duplex mode and a few seconds later I've got a page printed on both sides (again, documentation with the printer says this is not supported with OS X).
Besides what I've listed above, why I love this printer... #1). I feel like I'm never going to print something I didn't ask for. The Easy-PhotoPrint software is simple enough that it doesn't seem possible to not print what you want. iPhoto, while great for storing/archiving/ordering prints from, never seemed that great for printing. For once I feel in control of what will come out of the printer. #2). These are some of the best prints I've ever seen from an inkjet printer. #3). It has a top loading paper feed and a bottom tray. I can load plain paper in the top and photo in the bottom and be all set for text and photo printing without changing paper.
Bottom line? Just listen to everyone else here and get this printer. It's excellent. As a Macintosh user, I can highly recommened this printer. Got it at Staples for $99 and a $20 mail-in rebate.
10 Good for home use
I just bought a Canon camera so I picked up this printer as Canon has a $70 rebate on it. Net cost to me will end up being $20 so I have to say this is a great value. All I have to do is plug in my Canon camera directly into the printer (may not work like this for all other camera brands), format the picture directly on my Camera and hit the print button, and out comes the photo...Nice!! I was tired of developing roll after roll for $$$ so I went with this new set-up and now only print the pictures I need and store the rest on my PC. The print quality is good when you print on photo paper.
Please note that as an added bonus, this is also a regular printer for your normal home or home office print jobs. For the price it is 5 Stars
11 Excellent printer with fantastic features
I have used Lexmark, Canon, and Epson inkjets at home over the years. The iP3000 is my latest printer, and without doubt, the best. BTW, keep away from Epson - extortion and waste of resources.
You will probably discover the glowing reviews that others have written. In addition to everything positive written here, I have the following:
1. Really good, comprehensive driver software. - You can set it up to auto turn on and off.
2. Among all the other features, a most unique one is - set its 'quiet' hours!! You can actually set it to print quietly during 9pm-6am say. Unbelievable I tell you!! And it is very quiet. Truly a marriage-saver feature for those in small apartments where computer setup coexists with the bed.
3. Ease of cartridge refil. Can't tell you enough how evil Epson is with their slim cartridges and microchip on the cartridge that prevents refills.
4. Duplex, baby!! This is my first inexpensive printer with duplex.
5. 2 paper trays. This printer plays like the big boys.
Only potential drawback - possible lack of banner feature. Did not find it in docs so assuming it doesn't do it.
Oh yes and another minor issue - my amazon-supplied printer was USB only. An issue for those with working printer cable who would like to keep a USB port open for other stuff.
12 Amazing printer - but DO NOT USE CANON SOFTWARE TO PRINT !!!
Ok this message goes out to all proud owners of a Canon Pixma :)or those who are planning to buy one - I own it myself now.
I opened the printer and printed a 4X6 photo using the accompanying Quick Print software - it yielded a print which had significant amount of 'black' areas. To my horror I saw vertical lines giving a 'artificial' or 'pigmented' effect' to the photos (Much like the CNET reviewer). HOWEVER THIS OCCURS ONLY WHEN USING CANON SOFTWARE (EASY PHOTO PRINT) - CANON WHY DID YOU DO THIS??? I then printed with Paintshoppro (You need to setup the paper correctly) - took a few trials for me. But the print quality was STUNNING!! NO leaks, no smudges, just perfect. Just one thing however, my prints did not match what I saw on the screen (the prints were a bit dark) - however with proper ICC caliberation, this should not be an issue.
Pros
+FAST
+Duplex printing
+Stunning photo quality (Better than the Walgreens prints :))
I use Kodak photo paper (glossy) and set it to - Photo Paper Plus Glossy - 4X6 - for the best results.
+ A professional, speedy, quality printer for the price
CONS
- The Easy print software kills the photo quality! Canon should get rid of it
- A bit bulky - but who cares!
Again - DO NOT USE THE CANON SOFTWARE TO PRINT - IT SUCKS BIG TIME.
I give this printer 5 starts - FLAWLESS!! text is crisp and photos are stunning!
Buy this one!
13 Excellent Prints, Totally Satisfied!! Puzzling C/NET Review.
I was a little skeptical of this printer mainly because C/NET gave it such a low 6.7 rating. But I decided to go with it because of the amazingly positive reviews here on Amazon. Well the people have spoken and they are right and C/NET is wrong. I wonder who paid them off to print such an outlandish review. The prints are amazing - much better even than when I took my Memory Stick to the store to do it there for 19 cents. This is only about 3 or 4 cents a 4x6 for the ink and you can find 4x6 inch paper fairly cheap nowadays, so it's actually cheaper to print them in your home than at the store. One thing I recommend is to go with genuine Canon paper. The quality is much better on their own paper than on that of third party paper. Other than that this is a great printer for an amazing price. I'm just glad I listened to real buyers than C/NET's supposed "experts."
14 Amazing Printer
After checking reviews on several low priced printers I decided on purchasing the Canon PIXMA IP 3000. I cant say enough good things about this printer. I was hoping for something that printed average photographs. I was stunned to see how good of picture was printed on this printer. Definitely the best I have seen for the price.
15 Duplex (2 / double sided) printing a boon!
After struggling with a jamming HP printer and their unhelpful support, I decided to buy a new one. I wanted to also have duplex. Techadvice.com pointed me to this one (thanks guys!): it works flawless straight out of the box, and has a good printer progress window! 100% value for money!
16 I love the Cannon 1p3000
The Cannon ip3000 is the best printer that I ever had, I love the price, the s/h, then most of all the printer is the bomb. It gives you such great color, I love the way the printer prints boths sides of the paper, my pictures are so beautiful but you must use the cannon photo paper, but that's not a big thing, be-cause when you see your photos it is well worth it. I'm thinking about getting another one for upstairs, oh and the ink useage is
all that and more. This is a good printer get it you will not be sorry. oh and cannon gives you so much help with it.

17 so much for the photomat; a tremendous value
i bought this printer along with a 3.2 megapixel canon elph. i couldn't be more pleased with this combination. the ip3000 does an outstanding job printing 4x6 prints; the quality is comparable if not better than most prints i've received from the photomat. i am not sure how it would handle larger formats, but i'm sure with the right camera, those would look very good as well.
a few notes:
- the ip3000 doubles as a both a picture printer and a standard 8.5x11 printer. the printer is a bit larger than i expected, but not overwhelming.
- paper handling comes from 2 sources: a bottom cassette tray and a top feeder. i found this very useful since i would store the photo paper in the cassette and standard paper in the top feeder. switching paper sources is done via software.
- the printer does not come with the appropriate usb cable for hooking it up to a computer. i found this a bit stingy on canon's part.
- there are 4 independent ink wells -- 3 for each of the primary colors and a black one. each can be replaced independently (a huge, huge plus) and cost approximately $10 each.
- the accompanying software, while not great, is still very useful for getting up and running fast.
18 I love this printer!
Pros: Fast, quiet printing; low price; duplex printing; great photo and text quality; reasonably priced ink cartridges
Cons: Unattractive, boxy appearance
I bought this printer to replace an Epson Stylus Color 777 (which was a waste of money). That printer totally turned me off of Epson products because the ink was so expensive, so I decided to try a Canon instead. [...]
] For that price, the PIXMA iP3000 is almost too good to be true. Although the experts don't rate it as well as the more expensive printers in this category, for multi-purpose home use, I don't see the necessity of spending more money. The photo printing quality is very good, even on default settings (which was one criticism I read before buying it). Text printing looks good, too. The printer uses separate ink cartridges for each color (black, cyan, magenta, and yellow), which can be replaced separately when needed and are much cheaper than the Epson cartridges. It is also much faster and quieter than other printers I have used. The USB connection helps with the speed of printing. This printer is not the least bit aesthetically appealing, but I bought it for its utility, not its looks. Otherwise, I haven't found any problems with it yet. For most home or small-business use, this is a great deal.
19 Great value, good quality prints!
I have this connected to my iMac G5 and the thing works wonders. Its fast at printing b&w and for pics its pretty impressive! Although I've only printed a few pics (i do most of my digital pics at the local wally world) they came out amazing. This printer is a great value. $100 - a MIB for this fantastic printer. I highly suggest anyone looking at getting a new inkjet look at this model. Lexmark and HP for me have poor quality products for the money, plus you save more on ink using the Canon. I love how i can use the tray to feed paper in rather than go from the top. Very good printer for the money!
20 nice printer
It's a nice printer. I use it for school most of the time. I never tried to print a picture (cheaper at Wal-Mart only 19c a copy).fast, and quiet. also the ink is cheap not link Lexmark, and HP.I emailed Amazon to match the price with newegg.com no luck at all newegg is selling it for 62.95+ 2.95 shipping(right now 6.95)final price after mail in is 42.95
21 You Get So Much for the Price!
So far this is the least expensive printer I have bought, but it has performed the best. I had only used HP or Lexmark, but found after a few performances, these printers would break down. I still cannot believe that for under $80, you can get a printer like the Canon iP3000. It prints photo-quality photos, is compact, and prints duplex (2-sided) so you can save on paper. The footprint is smaller than most printers because of its ingenious design - everything folds into itself. The best part, though, is the cartridges - the ink colors comes in their own individual cartridge so you don't have to replace the entire cartridge when one color runs out. The cartridges can be found for less than $10, too. Canon has listened to what consumers like us want- a printer that works, does not take up too much space, and is economical. It makes you wonder how other printer brands can charge so much for the printer and the ink cartridges.
22 Great Printer-Lots of Features
I purchased the Canon PIXMA iP3000 for mostly non photo printing. I get my photos printed at one of the warehouse stores on regular photo paper for .19 cents each. The Canon ink is inexpensive, the printer prints both sides of the paper without removing the sheet, has great software and prints internet screens without cliping the right side of the page. The printed page is excellent. The print head can be replaced by the user. I got tired of expensive ink and clogged print heads requiring factory replacement. I am very pleased with this product.
23 The Perfect Companion for Your Canon Digital Camera
I just picked up my iP3000 and this is light years ahead of my ancient HP 812C it replaced. I was amazed at the ease of use and installation even on XP(the hardest part was carefully removing the tabs from the ink cartridges!) and was up and running in minutes.
Although bigger in size than the 812C, it feels lighter to move around and the quality of the pictures (photo or not) makes up for it in big ways. The cost of the entire printer with 4 color tanks included was about the same price as replacing the black/color ones on the HP. No more wasted ink with the Canon as you only replace the cartridge that needs to be changed out. Dual feeding trays is a nice feature because you don't have to fumble around with paper sizes as much, just press a button and you can select to print from the top or bottom trays. Dual sided printing is a bonus, I don't use it very often, but its nice to know that its there.
The iP3000 partners up with my 3.2 MP Canon SD110 Digital Elph and they make a excellent team. The PictBridge integration between camera and printer lets you take a picture and have great quality photos all in under a minute (without a PC). All of the pictures I have taken so far are under the lowest resolution and came out better than if I paid Wal-Mart's Photo Center to do it...just makes me drool thinking about how they would of turned out if I had used the higher resolutions!
This one is a real keeper and would suggest it to anyone who is looking to get the most out of their Canon digital camera. The only thing I would suggest is to invest in a AC adapter kit because the battery seems to drain rather quick, although I haven't tested how many pictures I can print before its time to recharge (it came with only 5 sheets of 4x6 photo paper which is better than none; will update this once I get more sheets)
24 Don't throw them away!
If the printhead on ANY printer clogs up, do NOT through it out. You can soak the printhead in about 1/8 to 1/4 inch of Windex Window Cleaner overnight, and they are as good as new. Sometimes it might take two nights. A clog can happen if when your very first start using refill inks, or let the printer set too long (Epson). Fixed several printers this way now that people WERE going to trash!
I do not buy anything but Canon now. The Windex trick works on the Canon printhead also.
25 Great Printer with special secret
This printer rocks, I use it to print up brochures for my business, the duplex printing is the best feature IMHO. Quality is super for what I need. Must print photos on canon paper only trust me it is not worth using other papers. My secret is how to get the ink costs even lower on one of the best prices per photo printers out there. inkconnection.com sells a kit that will allow you to add external ink tanks to your printer that will let you print full 8x10 photos at the highest quality setting for pennies worth of ink. Be sure to print on Canon paper for best results. The setup includes all 4 colors and each color is equal to (I think) 8 or so cartridges. The setup is super easy and best of all IT WORKS!!!!. Highly recommended if you purchase the ip3000.
26 Superb Value
I previously reviewed this printer before taking delivery. That review covered my primary reasons for buying this printer which are listed below.
1- My previous experience with Canon printers was excellent. I'm still not sure why I bought an HP after my Canon was stolen.
2- User-replaceable print head. My HP is now in the garbage as the cost of having the print head replaced was ridiculously high.
3- 1 year warranty. HP only gave me 90 days and the printer lasted less than two years with very light use
4- Cost of ink cartridges is substantially less with Canon than with Epson or HP. Almost every review I've read mentioned this fact.
5- Canon includes a real set of ink cartridges. Not the chintzy starter cartridges that HP or Epson put in the box.
Using Amazon's $30 discount for opening a credit card account, the cost of the ip3000 was less than having the HP repaired..... or even replacing its cartridges.
Having received the printer a little over a week ago, I've put it through its paces and it's performed flawlessly. Setup took less than 15 minutes from the time I opened the box until I made my first print.
The included software works perfectly with Windows XP. However, I'm a bit perplexed as to why it can't locate (and therefore cannot print) .tif files. I've had to convert .tif files to .jpg in order for them to be recognized. Perhaps I've missed something in the owner's manual, but this is very strange.
The set-up guide, printed manual and on-screen support are all acceptably clear.
Not that it matters, but this is a really good-looking printer. Its looks remind me of expensive audio equipment. With the front panel closed, it's very attractive.
Speaking of the front panel; it feels pretty flimsy. It has to be open for the printer to operate and, due to space restrictions, I can't keep it open all the time. I wonder how well it's going to handle the opening and closing routine.
This is, obviously, not a high-end printer. It only takes 4 ink cartridges and can't produce the larger print sizes that can be generated by more expensive models.
However, I've compared prints made with the ip3000 to those from an Epson printer costing 5 times as much. The Epson takes 8 ink cartridges and prints up to (I believe) 13x19 inches.
To keep things equal, I printed only 4x6 and 8.5x11 using my leftover HP glossy paper. The file was from a 4000dpi scan of a properly exposed Kodachrome slide. Maybe someone else can see where the Epson is superior under those conditions. I can't.
Colors were pretty much identical and I actually preferred the skin tones produced by the Canon. Of course, if you need to print 13x19 this Canon model isn't going to do the job. However, if your needs as to print size are less demanding, it may suit you just fine.
Although I haven't kept a count, I've made a "lot" of prints since I got the Canon. The levels in the ink tanks have barely moved. My friend with the Epson admits that his printer sucks up ink at an alarming rate. So much so, that he's considering having his larger prints made by a local custom lab.
Bottom line? If you're looking for an inexpensive (to purchase and operate) photo printer that produces great prints with a minimum of effort, the Canon Pixma ip3000 should be seriously considered.
27 It's good.
I bought this for x-mas when my old hp 812c died. The old 812c served well, but the ink cost a lot. That got me looking at the canon printers -- they cost much much less to operate than hp printers. It has 4 separate ink wells (black, yellow, red, blue), and they cost about $12 each. Tom's hardware did a cost comparison of Canon, Epson, and HP, and Canon blew the competition away in terms of cost. I always hated buying the $35 hp color cartridge and the $30 black. In fact, I started buying refill kits, but these kits cost more than brand new Canon cartridges. By the way, those refill kits aren't worth it -- they sometimes don't work as advertised, especially the color ones. The Canon cartridges don't include the print head -- that is a separate part that doesn't need replacing much (I hope). If the print head ever breaks, they are as easy to replace as is replacing an ink cartridge. I don't know what a new print head costs, though.
The ouput is nice -- so far I've printed text and photos, and they look really good. The printer is fast. I was shocked at the speed. I use a big laser printer at work, and I think the canon is just as fast or faster for text. Even the 4x6 photos I printed popped out in under a minute -- I didn't time it, but it was fast. But more importantly, the quality was excellent -- the photos were as good as I've seen.
The design is also very good. It allows paper to come in from the top or from a cartridge below (this is nice if you don't have much room above the printer). It will duplex (print on both sides), though I haven't tried it yet. When you're not using it, you can fold up the paper tray and compress the cartridge and it is very compact.
The driver for the printer is nice, with lots of options for printing. The included software isn't anything too fancy, but I found it to work really well for easily and quickly printing photos. It is really idiot proof software -- asks for the type of paper you are using, etc, so you shouldn't waste prints because of dumb stuff like that.
So, I am very pleased and recommend the printer highly. I will say, however, that when I bought it I got a defective printer (the black wouldn't print), so I took it back to office max and got another. The second one was fine. I don't know if that says anything about the quality of the machine, and I can't speak to the durability as I've only had it for a week. But with these things being so cheap, if you get 3 years out of it, you got a bargain as far as I'm concerned, and you'll probably want something newer and better by then anyway.
28 Fantastic
Bought it to be a printer for documents and such, that said I was amazed at its photo quality printing.
29 Great Buy in the price range
the printer is great for the price. Set up was easy. Fast text printing and relatively fast for photos. Not a heavy printer user but I wanted good quality prints and bigger ink tanks. I uninstalled the software, as it was not that useful. It over crops on borderless and border prints for me. Got a great deal at Staples for $79.99. Target sells IP2000 for $79 with the two little ink containers that run out too soon (had S200 Canon with them before). Use the Canon Photo paper for best photo results. I don't have a Picbridge camera so can't comment on that feature.
30 USA Models Have Disabled CD/DVD Printing Bay
People are fed up with printer manufacturers having cartridges with sponges that don't refill well (Lexmark), or smart chips that prevent refills (Epson), not to mention HP's methods including "Expired Cartridge" messages, etc. If we don't, as consumers, vote "no" by not buying these printers and sending letters to CEO's we'll just get more of the same scamming. I was excited to read about Canon Pixma IP3000 & up models with separate ink-tanks & no smart chips. Examining all the Pixma models at a local store I noticed this extra pull down tray in the front-middle. After going home to look online, talking to Canon tech support and the local store meantime checking on it...it's a disabled/never will work CD/DVD printing bay. Yet the same models in Europe have a working CD/DVD print bay. Why did Canon USA leave the drop down tray there, only plugging the CD/DVD entry slot with an extra piece of plastic if it can never be functional or upgraded anyway? The USA price does not reflect the non-functional CD/DVD printing either. So I will (doubtedly) try to get a Euro model or wait for Canon to release USA models that are fully functional. I may end up temporarly buying the Epson R200 but I feel like I should be ashamed supporting Epson and their smart-chip scam. There is a chip resetter device (avg. $10 to $15) but I don't know if it works well yet. Forget Lexmark unless you have money to burn on cartridges. And there's concern about Epson printers wasting/spraying ink all over the inside (read all R200 reviews) that soon causes problems (dries solid/hard). The Canon has ink tanks with no smart chips, look easily refillable, and their print head underneath the ink tanks holder is also removable (i.e. replacable, but I don't know what that will cost. If other printers' print heads go you pretty much resort to trashing the printer). I believe some Canon models use up ink by frequently running it's own cleaning cycles but don't know if that applies to Pixma line also. If they are tanks that refill well than that is probably okay. It looks like the Pixma line is leading the way in printing and cartridge technology. Canon: Kudos for heading a little more environmetally responsible with the Pixmas obviously designed for long-term usage in mind but PLEASE get those CD/DVD printing trays functional soon!
31 The family printer of choice this holiday season
The Canon Pixma iP3000 printer is, simply put, an excellent combination of great printing quality, unbelievable speed (for an inkjet) and family-friendly affordability.
After years of making dye-based printers, Canon is now making inkjet printers. The advantage of ink over dye is ink-printed photos will not fade over time, at least not as fast as dye. Color ink formula has improved a lot over the last three years, to the point that they will stay vibrant for many years to come. (Of course, only time will tell whether ink photos will last "forever.")
The boxy iP3000 is not a beauty to behold, but impresses everyone in the family with its excellent image quality (very good for text, excellent for photos) and fast speed. With our old Epson printer it used to take five minutes to print a photo at 150dpi in fine mode. With the iP3000, that was cut down to less than a minute and a half, and the same picture looked better this time around, too. Yes, for those of us environmentalists, the printer can print double-sided. Whether that tends to wear down the paper feed mechanism is unknown. So far, at least it hasn't had a paper jam. (Knock on wood.)
One of the best things about Canon printers (except the much cheaper iP1500) is they use individual ink tanks, and the replacement tanks are fairly priced, so there's no need to buy a new cartridge to replace all the colors when only one runs out. The iP3000 is also quieter than my Epson and HP.
This holiday season, if you want a family-friendly, high-quality printer, the Pixma iP3000 is by far the best choice. It strikes the perfect balance between function+quality and price.
32 The Secret to Canon Photo Printing
I tried out my canon with the photo printing. If you use non canon paper it is okay printing. If you use Canon photo plus glossy or pro (it is worth the money for fantastic special pictures) the pictures are better than the ones that I picked up from my 35mm camera. I found out that canon ink is formulated to match canon paper. So, buy the paper, it is worth it for great pictures!
33 IP3000 excels in speed, cost , quality and performance
I almost did not buy the IP3000. Boy I am glad I did! Initially I had my eye set on the Epson C84 as I was shopping around for a sub $100 printer to be used mostly for printing photographs. CNET had a very favorable review for the C84 and a lousy review for the IP 3000. However, after doing a lot of research on the Internet I found out that there are plenty of horror stories regarding the C series printers, mostly C82 & C84. Also, most of the other IP3000 reviews I found out there were extremely favorable. I bought the Canon and I am extremely pleased with its performance. Its speed blew my away and my 4x6s are way better than those prints from the photo shop. The printer is sturdy (although I would have chosen a livelier color instead of gray). Anyway, I would definetly recommend this aleek printer to anyone looking for fast, accurate and inexpensive printouts.
34 Great printer!
After realizing that I'd need to spend about $60 to buy ink jet cartridges to get my old HP610C running again, I thought I'd look at new printers. I've always bought HP, but was swayed by the good recommendations everyone had for the Canon PIXMA ip3000.
This printer really has it all. It produces beautiful borderless prints that look and feel like they were developed from negatives. It also does a decent job on text and resumes. And it is very fast. Plus, it comes with a full supply of ink! I'm not sure how fast the ink wears out, but I can tell you it is very cheap to replace. No more $35 cartridges from HP!
Thank you to everyone who reviewed this product. I never would have considered a Canon printer without you.
35 No More HP Anymore
I bought this printer a couple of months ago to replace my old HP OfficeJet that was slow and expensive on ink. At the time I had already known that Canon makes nice inkjets with excellent print quality and low cost ink. But the ip3000 exceeded my (already high) expectations.
Pros:
Excellent Quality
Small footprint
Prints full (borderless) pages
Duplex printing
Low cost printer
Low cost ink
Quite, fast and slick
Cons:
Comes with no USB cable (alas they all do...)
It's a no-brainer - Canon rocks!
36 No Problems
I bought the iP3000 to replace a Canon S520 (that I gave to my Mother). Both of these Canon printer do the job. Had 2 HP's before. No more HP's. Jams and high cost of inks.
I upgraded to the iP3000 mainly for the automatic duplex feature. And it works great.
The 2 feed trays are nice. Paper in the bottom and enveloped in the top.
Price of Canon ink refills are much more reasonable that the HP's. I've been using generic ink refills off eBay with good results.
I don't use this printer to print photos much. The couple I tried were OK, but not great. But it may have been my paper, setting, or something else. So don't hold my results against the printer. Try it out.
37 Very Impressed
I just received this printer a week ago and couldn't be happier. Text quality excellent and very decent photo printing. Fast compared to my HP 680 and quiet too. Double sided (duplex) printing works suprisingly well. 4 ink tank system a great idea to reduce ink costs. Setup very easy. Amazing performance given how inexpensive a printer it is.
38 Goodbye Epson Hello Canon
My Epson C44 died after 14 months light use.Got the Canon ip3000.Looks great, sounds great, prints clear and fast. The difference is amazing and it's well built and cheap.Sensibly they have avoided the all in one colour cartridges and those wretched chips .Get one now and enjoy decent prints<sorry Epson>
39 sanlis
Bought this printer last month and I just love it! I use it for printing photos and my daughter uses it for book reports and printing documents which it does very quickly and quietly. Printed lots of photos on the 4x6 glossy canon paper and they came out extremely well. Cannot tell the difference from previous ones developed at store. Also used Kodak's soft gloss paper and that worked well too. I have printed around 100 pictures in 4x6 as well as 8x11 and the ink is still going strong.
40 excellent quality printer
I just bought this printer to go with my new Canon Powershot S500. Love it! I've purchased matte, satin & glossy paper to compare. The satin look and feel the same as what I've received from film processed pictures.
41 Superb Performance; Exceptional Value
The Pixma iP3000 has performed flawlessly, and is an exceptional value.
(a) The printer is quick, and the output is very sharp. (Please note that I have not printed any photos yet- just web pages and documents).
(b) The printer can duplex pages automatically (prints on both sides of a page). This is very handy when printing documents with many pages. Duplexing appears to slow the printer down a little, but it is still quick.
(c) The iP3000 has two paper slots so you can either load up a large quantity of plain paper, or use the tray for photo paper, and the top feed for plain paper.
(d) The printer uses 4 ink tanks, which can be replaced individually. This will help reduce ink costs (compared to replacing ink cartridges in other printers).
(e) Some newer digital cameras can be connected directly to the printer to produce photo prints, so you don't have to bother transferring the images from the camera to your PC first. (I haven't tried this yet).
Two potential "negatives" can be (1) some Epson printers allow printing directly onto CDs/DVDs, while the Canon doesn't have this functionality, and (2) compared to the Canon i560, the Pixma iP3000 has a larger footprint. Although I like the smaller i560 footprint, I value the features in the iP3000 more.
42 Much better than Epson
Had a Epson C80 printer for 3 years. In my opinion the Epson is a crumby product with crumby design. I got the Canon when the Epson refused to print at all. I should have chucked the Epson much earlier as the Canon is SOOOO much better (won't try to print when output tray closed, has 150 sheet enclosed paper compartment as well as top loader, prints both sides, ...)
43 Fantastic Upgrade to the i550
After two years with the Canon i550, the Pixma 3000 is a significant upgrade and a great little printer.
Best Features:
- Superior Photo Quality (4 ink tanks but very, very good print quality). Good looking prints even on generic/non-Canon paper.
- Separate paper cassette like most laser printers. Don't underestimate the convenience of this. I can now load photo paper underneath in the cassette and regular paper in the top. The driver lets me setup a profile for borderless photo printing and it automatically takes the paper from the cartridge
- Duplex unit. This works great, printing on both sides of the paper without requiring you to turn the paper around. Very slick.
So far, no significant downsides. Only shortfall may be the inability to print directly to CD's. I'll wait and see how much the print nozzles get clogged (finally killed my i550).
44 Amazing Printer For The Value
Having five kids in school who all use our networked printer, we go through at least one printer a year.
Because of this, we tend to buy a solid printer that is "cheap" on ink, has good text quality and the ability to print good quality photos from our digital camera.
We purchased the PIXMA IP3000 here at Amazon for several reasons. 1) The price was right. After applying for the Amazon credit card, we were rewarded with a $30 discount off our first purchase using the new credit card. 2) The reviews from other websites rated the PIXMA IP3000 as a high quality buy. 3) We have had outstanding luck with other Canon printers.
After a tiring year for our Canon S630, she died a quick and painless death. We were amazed that the S630 lated as long as it did. When I say we print alot, I mean ALOT. It is not unusual for us to go through a 500 count ream of paper every month. This does not include photo printing, T-shirt transfer printing and various school project prints. Having been extremely satisfied with the S630, we did our research on the PIXMA IP3000 and decided to purchase it.
Though we have only had it a few days, we can tell a big difference in the print quality. The PIXMA IP3000 uses a new technology called "FINE" which micro-manages the print head and the use of ink. This formula has made a great difference in photo printing. The quality is really amazing. We were very happy with the photo printing on the S630, but the PIXMA IP3000 has improved photo printing 100%.
The PIXMA IP3000 is a very sleek looking machine, and looks very nice in our computer room. Once closed up, you don't even know it is a printer. The duel paper feed system is a huge plus, the lower cassette will hold about 150 sheets of plain paper.
The bundled software seems to be of good quality, but we use Photo Shop for all our printing needs. The PIXMA IP3000 comes shipped with full versions of each ink tank, not the 1/5 filled ink tanks like many companies have went to.
We paid $92.17 for the printer, minus the $30.00 credit card reward for a total purchase price of $62.17. As our old S630 used the same ink tanks as the PIXMA IP3000 does, we felt that since the printer was shipped with 4 full ink tanks, we almost got this printer for free!
We used the "free shipping" option yet still received the printed via UPS in 3 days.
If this printer holds up for a year with this quality, we were be extremely happy.
Of note, the printer does NOT come with a USB cable.
45 Good printer, especially for the price
I bought this printer as an upgrade to my dinosaur HP Inkjet (it had to have been over 10 years old), and must say I'm very pleased so far. However, before I go any further, you should know that the printer does NOT ship with a USB cable to connect it to your computer. This is kind of disappointing, considering you'll have to spend another $20 just to hook it up to your computer. Aside from that, I am satisfied!
The first thing one is likely to notice is the design, which is sleek, simple, and well thought out. The front has two buttons, one of which will cancel a print job in progress. The other button changes the paper feed tray, of which there are two. There is also a port on the front that allows PictBridge enabled cameras to connect and print without the need of an intervening computer.
For its price, this printer is packed with a plethora of useful features. One feature that was intrigueing was automatic on and off-- the printer turns on when you need it, and off when not in use. This option needs to be configured via the Control Panel. Another useful feature is automatic duplexing. In other words, the iP3000 can print two-sided pages without human intervention. How cool is that!
Print quality and speed on this model continue to leave me grinning. The test page was printed in a matter of seconds, and a test 4x6 print came out relatively fast (Canon's claim of 36 seconds per print seems correct). Text is crisp, and colors are fairly accurate. The test 4x6 print was a little darker than the same one when it was printed at Kinko's, but they also have something like 8 different ink colors (versus the iP3000's 4), so that's to be expected!
Anyways, to cut a long story short, this printer is an amazing value at just under $100.
