The Compaq FS 740 is a 17" multimedia monitor, styled to match the cool new look of the Presario desktop PCs. It delivers outstanding picture quality and value - with a dot pitch of 0.26 mm and a 1280x1024 resolution, you'll enjoy incredibly clear, sharp images. It comes with detachable or attachable monitor-powered JBL Platinum Series Speakers, which offer crisp sound and the convenience of a digital audio player jack - just plug in your digital audio player and listen to tunes without powering up your PC. And with an integrated Telex microphone, you have built-in, high-quality voice recognition. A simple, on-screen display menu helps you easily adjust screen dimensions, colors and image attributes. And the installation is simple - just plug your monitor into your PC, and you're ready to go!
With its built-in speakers and absolutely flat 17-inch viewing screen, the Compaq Presario flat-screen multimedia monitor is ready and waiting for your games and graphic-heavy applications. Due to its 1,280 x 1,024 resolution and 85 Hz refresh rate, you can be sure that your images will retain clarity and crispness with clear color separation. Installation is nothing more than connecting the 15-pin minicord, and the onscreen controls allow you to customize color, screen size, and a handful of image settings to achieve your perfect picture. The speakers are far more versatile than standard-issue built-ins, as they can be easily detached for a variety of layouts. Users with a digital audio player can connect it directly to the speakers and groove to the beats while saving power--you won't need to turn on the PC with this direct connection.

The Compaq monitor comes with a one-year warranty on parts and labor.

1 Great monitor!
I paid ... when I bought this monitor last year. But I've been using it for over a year now and it's wonderful. With anti-glare screen, I get excellent pictures everytime. The images are sharp and clear, and with Compaq's Coloreal technology you can enjoy true-to-life images on its 16.0 VIA. For a 2-piece stereo speaker system, the JBL Platinum is excellent, too. You can connect headphones directly to the speakers. The Digital Audio Player port lets you use the speakers as output for your mp3 player without switching on the computer. This is definitely one of the best flat screen monitor around. If you don't want this, get a flat panel display.
2 Overpriced, but Good
Good Monitor, Good Picure. Got it new for a lot lot lot less money at a local place.
3 Good Monitor
Purchased this monitor as part of a bundle with an Emachines system @ Circuit City. The monitor has a great picture and comes with JBL Platinum Speakers and built in microphone. While I'm not a fan of built in mic's this one works OK. The speakers are powered and need to be manually turned on and off via the volume control. They can be hung on the side of the monitor or they also can be put on the desktop with supplied stands. They sound pretty good but sound distorted at higher levels. They are a huge step up from the supplied e-machines speakers that came with the CPU though. Controls are easy to use and all cables and such are provided. ...
4 Good monitor for everyday, normal use.
This monitor was included with a Compaq computer that I bought and it hasn't given me any problems since. It's a flat screen (different from LCD) with 2 small slits on both sides to slide the speakers in to hang on the sides of the monitor. If you don't have the speakers or if you don't want to connect them to the monitor directly, that is no problem because the slits are barely visible and do not stick out. The monitor doesn't take much room and fits snugly on my desk. I don't ever have to turn it off because like most monitors, it automatically goes on standby when the computer is off or in sleep mode and turns back on with the computer. All in all this is a good, reliable monitor.

Quote of the Day:

He who knows others is wise.

He who knows himself is enlightened.
-- Lao Tsu

Bistromathics is simply a revolutionary new way of understanding the
behavior of numbers. Just as Einstein observed that space was not an
absolute, but depended on the observer's movement in space, and that
time was not an absolute, but depended on the observer's movement in
time, so it is now realized that numbers are not absolute, but depend
on the observer's movement in restaurants.
