1 1080i in GT4, the only way is with these...
If you want to experiance something awesome play GT4 with these component video cables and your surround sound hooked up with Driving Force Pro as your controller. You can try out this setup at Best Buy right now. If you have an HDTV and you have 20 dollars by this. Regular SD games look crisper as well. You won't regret it.
2 Excellent! for FFXI the difference is awesome...
Now I can say I am playing the game! the cable literally opened my eyes to the definition of the colors and images of the game... I am using a flat screen Samsung TV and game looks awesome! {Component Cable} {Can I have it?} {Yes, Please}
3 Produces a Great Picture.
Prior to buying these component cables, I had been playing my PS2 with composite cable, connected through my VCR. The result of this: soft, muddy, and dull graphics. After purchasing Final Fantasy XI for my console, I heard quite a few times how the PC version is far superior visually. I had enough of my inferior video and audio experiences, so I purchased a new televsion, and these cables. The result: CRISP, CLEAN, VIBRANT images. The first time I turned on FFXI with these cables, the difference visually was as clear as day. The various imagery in the game, from trees, rocks, the sky, the terrain, and the characters pop out and are very well defined. They all seem to have the depth that I was missing all this time. The text present in the game has also become much clearer. I am proud to say that I can now enjoy this game at the same level visually as PC gamers enjoy theirs. My PS2 has gotten a major face lift.
4 AV Component vr S/Video
I just bought the component AV cable from a 3rd party company and already has the S/video cables (3rd party too) . I've read that AV component it's much better than S video, and tha's why I bought it. But is not!. AV component seems to be a little better than standard AV cables (RCA). S video gives an extraordinary brilliance to images. Video Component looks opaque, maybe Monster cables works better. In summary:
1- S/Video
2- AV component
3- Standar Av cables (rca)

Could it be 'cause they are 3rd party.
5 HELP!
I have a 61" DLP HDTV moniter, as I thought PERFECT for a PS2! The original A/V plugs were a little fuzzy, so I decided to get these component cables. I switched the system configuration the component setting, and plugged the cable in. When I started the system, I found that all of the words and pictures shook... ALOT! The cross on the t kept moving from left to right! I tried jiggling the wire, but no use! Also, the picture doesn't seem the "very best" for Tiger Woods 2004. Tiger seems just a little too pixelated. Someone please help me figure out why this is happening and how to fix it!
6 saved me, psykottic !
I did a google search, found this review, saw your comments on changing the settings to component mode (had a refurbished without manual ps2) and it saved me a trip to buy a new ps2!
Thanks!
7 Great, BUT...
These cables are a must for anybody with a component video connection, but... Watch out! These cables to not stretch out by themselves to reach longer destinations. For instance my audio hookup is less then two feet away and the R/L connectors cannot reach because they can only stretch less then a foot!

Sony needs to make longer extensions. If your in my situation, try to look for another brand. If your not like me then buy this!
Thanks

8 Component A/V problems
Just a quick thought to anyone having problems with these cables...Make sure you go into the options menu on your PS2 (the one with the time & date options) and change the output from RGB to component. The picture will not straighten out until you do this. At least, this was the solution to the only problem I had with mine. Also, any game that supports this setup must be changed to progressive scan in the game's option menu as well. Hope this helps.
9 If your TV can use these, they're a great purchase!
These and the Monster Cable Component Cables are the best cables you can buy better than S-Video better than the regular RCA AVs (yellow, red and white), in fact I would recommend if you have both the S-Video and the Red, Blue, Green holes on your TV to go straight to the Component (The Red, Blue, Green) cause it makes the scanlines less noticable making the image even clearer even if it's not a HDTV plus if you do get one you'll have the right cables to get the best quality especially now that some PS2 games offer Progression Scan support nearly completely eliminating the scanlines for HDTVs. Component Cables are almost a must buy for Xbox if you care anything about graphics cause nearly every game on it has some HDTV support and Component Cables are only cables that specially supports HDTVs.
10 Correction of an earlier review
I just wanted to clarify some "technical" information that Will from Chicago wrote in his review.

He mistakenly says that audio and video signals are separated in s-video and component video cables. This is totally wrong. Any video cable, be it composite, s-video or component has absolutely NOTHING to do with audio. Period. Audio is carried by completely different cables.

Composite (standard) video combines chrominance (color) and luminance (black/white) into a single wire. S-video separates these two types of signals onto two different wires, producing a sharper picture because there's no "bleeding" of data between the two.

Component video uses three separate wires to conduct luminance and two chrominance signals, producing the sharpest, most accurate pictures. Most direct-view televisions nowadays utilize component video as their "native" format internally.

Okay, so now that I made that little rant, I want to point out that these component video cables from Sony include a set audio cables. Just keep in mind that audio doesn't travel over the video portion of the cables.

11 Component versus Composite/S Input and Image
To begin, I have a 27" Daewoo flatscreen, which comes standard with an S and Component input in addition to 2 other AV inputs for composites or other electronic devices.

We all know the difference between S and Component, S separates the RGB and audio bands, but puts all of the RGB in a single connection with separate connecter pins. The component breaks down all the RGB into single inputs, hence one for red, one for blue, and one for green, in addition to left and right audio.

So, does it make a DVD/PS2 game look that much better/different? Believe it or not, YES, it does, quite noticable. The colors are richer, the images are sharper, clearer, and it cleans up darker scenes with better line definition. It works very well and does exactly what it advertises. Is it work the $30? No, something this simple really shouldn't cost this much. Sony is to blame. But if you are truly that critical of movie viewing and the difference between stock and component cables is compelling to your eye, by all means, buy it. IF you have extra cash to spare, that helps too.

12 fantastic for ANY TV with component inputs
I don't have much to add to the other reviews except this: I bought the component cables for to use with a standard (not HDTV) 14" TV not really expecting to see a difference on the order that I'd seen on my girlfriend's 34" widescreen Sony Trinitron HDTV.

Long story short, I was wrong. I'd expected the sharper image (which is great overall, although I have to confess that in some games I preferred the slightly blurry edges between polygons to the jagged ones I'm seeing now), but the richness in color was the real payoff here. I think it would be an overstatement to say, "The difference between component and composite is like the difference between VHS and DVD," but, frankly, not by much. If you can make the upgrade, by all means, do it.

One last bit of factual information: if size is an issue, he Sony component cable is 6' long, as compared to Monster's component AV cable for the PS2, which is 10'. (The Sony cable is also smaller in diameter by about 1/3 and more flexible.) I can't speak to the dimensions of other competing brands (Intec, etc.).

13 Not all HDTVs are compatible with this one
I own a 29" Philips HDTV and I just can't figure out why it only works with the PIP (picture in picture) and not on the main screen? I read most of the reviews and told me to buy this thing if you have an HDTV. Probably there's a problem with our HDTV. Maybe the output signals of the PS2 don't match the TV's. Then again, if you're buying this item make sure that it's comaptible with your HDTV. Maybe you can borrow one first before buying.
14 Practically NEED THIS!
Don't buy it from auction sites just because they are cheaper. Don't even bother getting S-Video Cable. I bought it from an ebay, this item, and received one that was made by the seller. Even I could have made it with materials. Notice the difference. This is what you NEED to see the performance that PS2 has promised to deliver. DVD is great. No flaws in this product. Monster cables component video is only recommended from me if you are seroius about video and willing to spend big bucks for more equipment for external audio. Please get this if you have an HDTV or Plasma TV like I do!
15 gamer from houston-
u could get around your audio problem by putting two y-cables right on the end of the component cable audio out left and right before hooking to tv then run one side of y to tv,one to your reciever-
16 Great... but...
I could definitely notice a quality improvement in both color and definition. This was on a regular, but new, flat screen tv.

But... big pain... my TV "recognized" the input as a DVD player as a result of using these plugs, and cancelled output of the monitor out jacks. I was using the TV audio out to feed a stereo amplifier. So now I have a choice of external sound or nice picture. Aarggh. If you just use your tv speakers, or you have a surround receiver you won't care, but beware if you don't.

17 Great Value
I have got this cable after I got a new TV. While the composite video was looking good, I still gave component video a try. Boy, was I surprised. The image quality was MUCH better, colors looked just right and there was no blending or oversaturation.

If your TV features a component input, then this cable is what is missing so you can enhance even further your experience with the PS2. While there is no great shielding on this cable as there is on the cable done by Monster Cable, this one has one nice option missing on the later, audio outputs for who lacks a receiver with optical input (or the whole receiver, like me).

You can't compare at the same level this cable with the one made by Monster Cable, but for half the price and featuring the audio outputs that are needed for TVs or low end/old receivers this cable has a great value for it's price.

18 Good, but not enough if you have a good tv
I bought this last week, basically because of the reviews of this cables in amazon. and I must tell you my experience:
" I have a 29" LG flatron (this is an EXCELLENT TV), and the quality of the DVD movies and the games when I use the standar AV cables that came with the PS2 was great. Now with my new sony COMPONENT CABLES I have almost the same quality, the truth is that my TV have lots of filters and amplifiers that improve the quality of the signal and the performance with my new cables are not noticeable."
My advice if that if you have a good quality TV (like this LG flatron) use the cables that came with the PS2. you will not see any difference. BUT if you have a HDTV you may be see some improvement.
19 Component is the way to go!
I recently tested both Monster's Component cables and Sony's Component Cables and kept the Sony. I have a 53" Hitachi Ditgital HDTV and the difference between the A/V Cables included with the PS2 and the Sony Component cables is night and day! Huge difference, but like the other reviews, you can only really tell on high-end HDTVs, so if you have a regular tv, I would suggest using S-Video or the A/V cables already included with the PS2. DVD's are also great for the component cables, the picture is crystal clear and fantastic compared to the A/V or S-Video connections.

As for the Sony v. Monster comparison, I saw very little difference between the two except that with the Monster Cable, you pay $20 more and GET NO SOUND connection which costs more. But if you have a great sound system set up, and can afford the Monster Cables AND the Optical Digital Audio cables, then buy the best.

Just to re-iterate another review, the quality levels are as follows:
1) Component Video Cables
2) S-Video Cables
3) A/V Cables

But remember, chances are you won't see much of a difference unless you have a High End TV with HDTV or Digital interface, otherwise stick with what you have.

One last comment, make sure you change the PS2 SET-UP (in the configuration screen, with no disc loaded, but the power on) from A/V to Component cables, otherwise you'll get no picture and no sound at all!!!

20 Great Quality
Jeez the improvment over the standard RCA cabling is amazing. So much crisper, clearer and slightly more vibrant color.

If your TV has this connection input, i suggest you buy this immediatly, its like the difference between DVD and VHS!! CD ans Cassettes!

21 Great Difference
I bought this cable a few days ago, I also bought Final Fantasy's DVD, and all I can say is that this is the only true way to really enjoy PlayStation 2, the colors look brighter, there is so much more detail, I mean I was truly amazed. Now I can really say that the PS2 was worth buying!!! This is a must have for every gamer!!
My only complaint is that the product is probably not the best on the market, inmediately after watching a little closer to GT3 I noticed that some of the colors were not perfectly aligned as they should be, I could also notice that when watching Final Fantasy's DVD on the subtitles, you could see some kind of blur and that was because the alignment of the colors was not perfect.
22 Much more to offer then Composite
If you have component outputs on your television, component cables are the way to go. They offer 200 more lines of resolution, offer a much clearer and detailed picture, and i'll explain it's progressive scan feature. When using normal cables or s-video cables, you only see 30 frames of motion per second. That is .5 of each actual frame. Now use component cables with a progressive scan TV and you have 60 frames per second of motion. That is full fluid motion, great picture, and aswome detail. Get any component cables now, and get great quality!
23 look at the colors
This is the only way to experence the Playstation 2. Component video in my opinion blows "S" video out of the Home theater. S Videos gives you a a bland less vivid picture then component Video .Everybody should see a major difference in Picture Quality when compared to S Video or Composite Video (expecally Sony Wega owners). Component is the standard in my Home Theater and many others. All in all in term of product quality the cable it self could use more shelding, and a tighter connection port to the PS2. You may wish to try monster cables version,But it has yet to be offically licenced by Sony.
24 Good product, but...
First, for the uninitiated, a short explanation of common video connectors:

Composite - this is where video comes on one plug (usually colored yellow). Since all video signals are meshed together on one connector, there is some loss of quality.

S-Video - much better than composite, since most of the video signals are seperated out to seperate wires within the same cable. Its popularity has come with DVD players as people want to access the better quality that DVD video offers.

Component - the highest quality. Each video signal is isolated into it's 3 primary components (not the same as RGB, but similar in concept). You usually only find this type of connection on HDTV's, but some "normal" tv's, such as my 27" Panasonic, have this as an opion alongside s-video and comosite.

I got this cable right away when I purchased my PS2. It's a decent cable, but if you want this sort of serious quality, I'd go for the Monster Cable version instead, which I have since purhcased. Note, however, that the Monster Cable version does not output audio (you need to use the PS2's optical audio out in that case, which I now do), while this Sony one has both the component video and the stereo audio plugs on it. But if you're hard-core enough to demand component video instead of s-video, you'll want to use the optical audio-out anyways.

25 Great product but...
This product does exactly what it was meant to do. The picture comes through 10 times better on my HDTV, but this is the Playstation 2 we are talking about. With most games having no form of anti-aliasing the flaws of the system are exploited. I have a Dreamcast hooked up with a VGA converter with an Audio Authority VGA-Component video converter attached and it actualy makes the PS2 look like the weaker system. I hate to say it, but the PS2 was meant for standard TV only. Guess we will have to wait for GCN or X-box for true next generation gaming experience.

Anyway I have to give the product itself 5-stars if only for the irony of sometimes getting what you wish for.

26 5 bucks more for a S video cable....
its not worth it when S video, which has much better quality, costs only 5 bucks more. after i relized that, i sold this cable, getting only 10 dollars, and bought the S video cable. also, i see 3rd party cables for less, around 25 dollars(s-video) and 20 dollars(component video). don't waste more money on the system that you and me already wasted sooo much on!
27 Component Cable & HDTV
The Component cable works great on a HDTV. All HDTVs that I know of will let you adjust the aspect ratio from 4:3 to 16:9. It will blow you away!
28 Sony Wega 36 inche + PS2 component cable = Perfect
well, if you have money to buy PS2 (plus your TV have component cable port), would you care about ($)?

well, i don't know what is component cable, but I just know it's better than AV cable. For DVD movies and games, it worths.

29 Worth the money
I have a 36" SONY XBR400, with this cable DVD's and games look amazing.

The text on the games in much clearer. It makes NFL 2000 look like real life.

30 Compenent AV Cable
If you want to connect this Compenent AV cable to your "HDTV" please forget it, PS2 is not supporting "HDTV", check the PS2 Menu under Compenent connection section. I was returned mine to store ! S-cable connect is working perfectly with "HDTV"
31 Great for Sony XBR tv's
I was looking at some mixed reviews for Sony's XBR series TV (I own a 36 inch one) and I personally had a much higher quality with the AV component cables.

For 25$, this is more than worth it if you wish to have better definition; even more if you intend to use the DVD capabilities with your Sony screen.

I tried this with SSX, NHL 2001, Tekken TAG, and Summoner and for all of them, you could see at least some better definitions in characters definition and better finition of the environment.

32 If you own an HDTV, this is your only choice
Disclaimer: This review is being written primarily with HDTV owners in mind.

Anyhow, first thing's first: people with standard televisions will notice little to no difference using component video cables. I've tried this firsthand using many sets from Sony (their XBR line), Toshiba, and Panasonic non-HDTV direct-view televisions with color difference ("component") inputs, and have had to really look hard to notice a difference (if any at all), between component and S-Video. Half of the perceived difference, I believe, is due to a mental expectation that the image will be inherently better. ....

However, using an HDTV direct-view set, such as the Panasonic CT-34WX50, CT-36HX40, Sampo SME-34WHD5, et al., as well as some of the better-quality front-projection and rear-projection HDTV units, result in a subtle, yet discernable difference and is the only way to go, IMO. .... Combined with a digital TosLink cable for PS2 audio, and you have an excellent video game and movie-watching unit. However, why would anyone use the PS2 as a DVD player on an HDTV when you can buy a 3/2-pulldown progressive-scan DVD player that will yield spectacular and superior results?

Not sure, but HDTV owners should purchase these cables to maximize their PS2 to the fullest. Standard TV owners should just stick with S-Video, such as the PS2 S-Video offering from Monster Cable.

33 Slight Improvement Over S-Video Cable
If your television is equipped for this capability, I wouldn't just rush out and get one. It's a little more expensive than the S-Video cable, and the improvement in video quality is only minimal when compared to the S-Video. Here's the scenario, if you're a huge critic and notice every little detail, go ahead and get this product since. If you're just a regular like me, just go ahead and use the S-Video Cable since the difference in picture quality isn't substantial enough to go crazy over.
34 A must have-if your TV Supports it
I got this in the mail yesterday, and it improves the quality of the playstation by far. You can even see an improvement over the S-Video cable. If your TV supports any kind of component input (there is a setting in the PS2 configuration to change the output) you need this cable.
35 PS2 Component AV Cables
This is one of the best things you can buy for your PS2. If you have a t.v. with these inputs, you should go and get them. The games look so much more alive then ever before. When watching DVD's it takes you one step closer to beening at the movie theater. Toy Story 2 looked drop dead gorgeous. It's really kind of hard to explain how much better it look's. Imagine watching a t.v. with sun glass's on, then watch it with out the sun glass's. That's how much better it look's. I hoped this review helped you. Now go and buy them already.

Quote of the Day:

"Cheshire-Puss," she began, "would you tell me, please, which way I

ought to go from here?"
"That depends a good deal on where you want to get to," said the Cat.
"I don't care much where--" said Alice.
"Then it doesn't matter which way you go," said the Cat.
