Creative Labs CSW100 PCWorks 3-Piece Computer Speakers

Compras Nikon
Bluetooth
PCWorks has been carefully fine-tuned by Henry Kloss to produce the type of sound normally associated with high-quality stereo systems. Plug it into a portable CD player, computer, TV, clock radio, or boom-box for rich, beautiful sound. And because it works on 12 volts, it's perfect for boats, campers, and cars. PCWorks consists of two very small speaker cubes plus a compact subwoofer. It contains a 3-channel amplifier that's been precisely tailored to match the speaker drivers. Its input panel includes a "set and forget" bass control, terminals for the satellite speakers, and a stereo mini-jack input. The system includes an in-line volume control that can be placed where it's easy to reach. PCWorks takes up very little space. Its compact, shielded satellites fit just about anywhere. Use their supplied stands and place them on your work surface, or attach them to the wall with the supplied Velcro kit. The subwoofer has a minimal footprint, so you can place it on the floor, out of the way, or out of sight.
1 Excellent "Value" Speakers
I give these speakers my strongest endorsement. While the maxim "you get what you pay for" is generally true, I felt I got *way* more than my money's worth with these.

The sound quality is amazing, especially for the money. The set up is easy, and there is plenty of wire to put the speakers any reasonable distance from your computer.

2 Really are great for the money
I've had the same thoughts as most of the other reviewers. These speakers really are outstanding for the price. I have had no trouble with them. They are silent when not in use and look great too.

You can't go wrong with these.

3 Why bother spending more on speakers when it's only a PC?
Not wishing to spend a large amount of money on my PC's computer speakers but not liking the factory speakers included on my computer I took a leap of faith and purchased the Cambridge 3-Piece system because of its low price compared to some of the units out there.

The system includes a large woofer and 2 tweaks that can extend up to 4-5 feet. The volume is controlled by a switch attached to the speaker's wires that can stretch 2-3 feet. The bass is controlled by the back of the woofer and overall installation of the speakers is very easy.

It's amazing how much high quality sound I get from these speakers when running my computer's DVD player. Even with 3 speakers, the sound still gives you the movie theater feeling of having the sound go from left to right. I own a large TV but still prefer to watch some DVDs on my 19" monitor because of the sound quality from the Cambridge speakers. (On a side note, recently I tried hooking up the speakers to my DVD's headphone jack and it worked giving me a cheap speaker system. The speakers are powered by themselves so they increase the sound from your DVD movie to whatever volume or bass level you like.)

I also own a large amount of PC games and if you're an avid gamer you have no idea what you're missing by not having a quality speaker system. Many of today's PC games were meant to have not only a good sound card but excellent speakers that allow the user to appreciate the sound that the programmers meant to be a part of the game's atmosphere. Some games are scarier, more exciting, etc. with a good set of speakers such as this.

You can buy better speaker systems than this but why bother with more speakers until they invent affordable computer screens that stretch a few feet. The 3-piece Cambridge system is more than enough for anything you may use on your PC.

4 Don't buy these speakers!
Everytime the speakers are plugged in and the power is on, I pick up distortion -either a small crackling sound or a low level radio signal. So anytime I play stuff with these speakers, I can still hear that low level sound. I had to completely disconnect the left speaker because it was picking up a radio station even when the volume was at its lowest. These speakers are NOT Cambridge Soundworks quality. If you want good speakers, its worth spending the extra bucks to get real sound.
5 Good, solid speakers
I bought these for $40 to enhance the sound I'm getting out of my laptop. They did the job brilliantly - setup is easy, cables are of good length and the sound quality is sufficient. At loud volumes the sound does get ugly, but only at a VERY loud volume. The subwoofer is great - extends to the full bass range. This set is not the best buy for higher tones, but overall it's a good system - and look at the price...
6 Good Bang For The Buck
Let me preface this review: These speakers are not for the audiophile. If you want high end sound, completely distortion free at full volume, with a treble that can call in the dogs from a mile away and a bass that can rattle cracks in your house's foundation these are NOT the speakers for you.

But if you don't want to spend a lot of money and you still want reasonable quality, these speakers are a good buy. Given the price of these speakers, I must say I was amazed at the sheer clarity of the sound. I tested them with my car CD player and they played everything from classical Beethoven to classic rock with alaming precision. They worked equally well on my computer for CDs, MP3s, and DVDs. The bass was separately adjustable--a plus at this price range--and the apparatus was easy to set up.

I did not experience audible hiss that was noted by some of the reviewers, but at higher end of the volume setting the higher sounds tended to fray and the bass became a little muddy. No matter. This is not the speaker set up for a large room or a home theater. These are personal speakers that will function best in a small room or office and they pack more than enough punch for this venue.

My five star rating reflects the quality of the product given its price. I have listened to other speakers by Boston Acoustics, Altec Lansing, and Yamaha that were bought for almost double this price that did not sound as good as these. Once again, this is not audiophile sound, but who can expect that in this price range? I highly recommend them for the basic user who does not want to pay a premium for premium sound.

7 The old saying goes, you get what you pay for...
I ordered this speaker system to replace a terrible pair that came with my computer. I figured anything would be better. Well, these are better sounding, but just added new problems. First off,I knew these would not be audiophile quality, but the first MP3 I put on to test them, showed the subwoofer can not handle much bass. It was popping with the volume low. Terrible. The other problem I had,is the volume control. I can deal with the stupid design, but it has a short in it,and I have to keep wiggling it to get sound from both satellites. If you are looking for just a cheap pair of speakers, these are the ones to get. For the price I paid,it is not really worth the time and effort to mail em back,etc.. I'll just have to deal with new problems after dealing with the old ones.. I'd shop around.
8 Good speakers for the buck
For the money I paid for these speakers, I am extremely satisfied with them. They sound great, they can fit anywhere on my desk no matter what kind of clutter I have on there, and they can crank a little if you want them to. I found the quality to be very crisp and they were close to rivalling my shelf system in sound quality. If you're looking for good speakers without a 3 digit price tag, get these. They will please your ears and your wallet.
9 A compact audio dynamo!
The Cambridge SoundWorks PCWorks speaker system was designed by Audio Hall of Fame member Henry Kloss and made in partnership with Creative Labs, the company that also manufactures Soundblaster audio cards for PC's. Simply put, this compact computer speaker system is an absolute dynamo!! It consists of two 3-inch X 3-inch X 3-inch satellite cubes, a 9-inch X 6-inch X 6-inch subwoofer unit, and a wired remote volume control unit. The subwoofer is the central unit in the system. In addition to pumping out a deep, mellifluous, natural sounding bass into the room, it provides amplification for the satellites.

It doesn't take long at all to get the Cambridge SoundWorks PCWorks speaker system set up and running. Here's all you have to do:

* Connect one of the volume controller's 6-foot leads to the computer's "audio out" port, and the other lead to the subwoofer.

* Connect each satellite's 10-foot lead to the subwoofer.

* Plug the subwoofer into household current.

* As the instruction manual points out, the human ear can't distinguish the location of bass frequencies; so subwoofer placement is not critical. I suggest placing it on or near the floor on a low-lying shelf. For best results, don't place anything within 4 inches directly in front of the subwoofer.

After setting up my Cambridge SoundWorks PCWorks speakers, I really put them through their paces. I test drove them with music as diverse as Beethoven's "Spring" violin sonata and "The Best of the Guess Who." I played a variety of computer games. And, I watched the movie "Gladiator" in my computer's DVD player. In all cases, The sound from these little Cambridge SoundWorks PCWorks gems was simply magnificent... at all times, crisp, clear, well balanced, and natural. Never any distortion, fuzziness, or clipping, regardless of how loud I set the volume.

I "discovered" Cambridge SoundWorks speaker systems a couple years ago, when I bought an "Ensemble IV" satellite/subwoofer system for my stereo. When I first bought it, I was amazed at the sound quality that emanated from that miniature dynamo; two years later I'm still amazed.

The Cambridge SoundWorks PCWorks is as good as my "Ensemble IV" system; in fact, I rate it as the best computer speaker system I've ever heard. Considering its very inexpensive price tag, it also a system that packs a huge "bang for the buck" for consumers.

So, if you're looking for a new computer speaker system that will bring your games, music, and movies alive, look no farther that Cambridge SoundWorks PCWorks. Go ahead... buy `em and set `em up... then kick back and enjoy the music!!

10 Cheap but powerful speakers
Paying (little cash), I was not expecting a great deal of volume from this speakers. Consider this, some cheap non amplified speakers cost near $15 dollars and for double that price, you would expect about double the quality. Well, let me tell you, this baby more than quad-triples the sound of those speakers.

The Creative labs PC WORKS 1000 system comes complete with the 2 satelitte cubes, the subwoofer, power adapter, audio inputer cable, mounting stands, velcro attachments and screws. Installation was very easy, just plug the speakers in the back of the sub, plug in the power adapter in the power source and the audio cable in the sub and the source.

The included manual is quite small but is adequate enough to help you set up and get the system running. They have recommendations on placement and volume. I plugged my system into a discman first. When I first turned it on I was amazed at the power of the bass. The OOMPHS really shocked me.

Concerning the volume, this is one of the problems I have with the system. First off, the volume is somewhat hard to find the appropriate setting. (There is a bass adjustmant on the sub and a volume control on the audio cable) Finding a balance in bass and treble is quite hard. When the bass level is at 50% (as set when you first get the system), the bass tends to overpower the treble at lower volumes while the treble overpowers the bass at high volumes. Solving this problems involves alot of tweaking and depends on the type of music you listen to.

My second problem with this system is the supplied velcro strips. These were supposed to be used to mount to a wall. I was obviously skeptical at the concept but I tried it anyway. About 3 days after mounting them to the wall, on one of the speakers, the velcro pad unstuck from the speaker so the speaker fell. After re-sticking it, almost a day later, the velcro pad stuck to the wall unstuck so the other speaker fell. After this happened, it is obvious that the actual sticking surface which attaches to the wall/speaker is too weak, not the velcro. If you decide to use the velcro, let the pads stick to the surfaces for atleast 2 days before mounting the speaker to the wall.

Those 2 problems are my only ones, other than that the volume is excellent. You will be suprised about the amount of volume you can get from this system. Its hard to explain,...hear the sound, you will be amazed.....

In conclusion, if you think about it, the cost of these speakers warrant it to be a typical speaker system for any computer and can easily be used for a small home theatre system. The speakers are magnetically shielded so you can mount them to your monitor. If you got extra cash and you want neighbours 2 or 3 houses down the road to hear you, consider pumping out that cash for a more expensive system. But for regular people like me on a budget, this system is an excellent solution for any sound need.

11 "Where did you get those!"
Everyone that comes into my office and hears these speakers wants a set! They take up no desk space to speak of, and sound fabulous. The only problem, I can't play them as loud as I want in the office! Don't hesitate to purchase these little jewels; you will not regret it. Heck, get a set and use them with a portable CD player if nothing else!
12 Unbeatable value
OK. I read some of these reviews, and bought the kit. And they are great. If you follow the instructions, the sound quality is very impressive. Do put the woofer on the floor, with the wall behind it. Do adjust the PC sound to about 70% of full volume, then adjust the CSW volume level (this stops most of the hissing and clicking). The build quality is astounding for equipment at this price level. They haven't skimped on cable length, the pots (volume controls) are smooth, the power supply is well up to the job, the satellite speakers don't slide around on the desk. Top design, top construction, top quality sound (ok, Golden-ears - you can get better - but need to spend LOADS more to do so). If you actually like music, and listen to it on your computer, don't settle for anything less. One unusual observation: the cat was quite puzzled by the subwoofer, and spent half an hour listening to it from a distance of about 10mm. She must have been a headbanger in a previous life.
13 3+ years and still going strong
...not very loud, and the sub tends to get boomy. other than that, best sound for the money(still is). perfect "hi-fi" for a student living in a dorm...took it to a friend's home with a portable cd player. my friend laughed at my portable gimmicky stereo at first. they weren't laughing anymore when they heard it playing.
14 Makes Me Go BOOM!
Here's the basics. These CSW's include: base subwoofer, 2 mini speakers, volume control, AC plug.

Base Subwoofer The subwoofer is WHOA!!! This subwoofer delivers/handles bass like no other system can. That's why It Makes Me Go BOOM! On the back of the sub, there is a knob to control the output level of bass, but if you're one of those kinds who love to blast your hip-hop in a large ambient area, and hate it when from a distance, you can only hear treble, then these speakers are most definitely for you.

2 mini speakers These, though not as well as the subwoofer, handle sound pretty well (though I am sure some other speakers can handle it a bit better). Together with the sub, these speakers, if set (manually) to optimal level, can give you 3D-like sound. Though I feel Cambridge could've made the speakers a bit better, you really get more than you pay for.

Volume Control The volume control switch is very convenient, unlike many speakers which have the volume knob on the speaker itself. The volume control has 2 wires, one which plugs into the base subwoofer, and the other which plugs into the output device. This is a very convenient feature due to its small size and simple operation.

Ease of Use This set is for anyone! Simply plug the L/R wires from each speaker into the 4 slots in the back of the sub, plug the volume control switch into your output source, the other into the sub. Plug the AC Adapter into the sub. Then...for a grand finale...press the On/Off button, and Voila! This speaker system is just like most other systems, easy to set-up, and easy to get started. A mini-con to this system is that there are a lot of wires due to the many plugs here and there, but they all have lots of wires, so it's not really too bad.

Functionality Like any other speaker system, they all perform the basic function of delivering sound from a source output. So, I'd say this set's functionality is done well!

15 PCworks - 3 piece speakersystem
I'm an IT professional, and an audio Freak. For the record, that's Freak with a capitol F. When Spec'ing out My organization's standardized desktops, I couldn't help cringing when our "Vendor Direct" systems came with Garbage speakers, for at extra cost. Endusers normally feel "neglected" when the installers drop these embarassments onto the desk...... For a little bit more, the PCWorks sound the way music was supposed to sound at low to moderate volumes. The endusers love them, and that keeps them off my back

16 Great speakers for its price
The sound quality is tooo good......its a must have..
17 The Best Value speakers at this price
Well too be honest these speakers are a pure bargain at this price and are probably better than the more expensive products. Creative Labs have a excellent reputation for producing quality products. The subwoofer packs a punch.
18 great value but one flaw
I have been using it on my PC for 2 years now. This made-in-China product proved to be very reliable. It sounds great with games and CD audio. It sounds A LOT better than those mini 2 speakers. For just $40, I don't see why we should use the cheapy mini speakers. My only complain is the volume distortion. If I push the volume higher than 5 using the build-in volume control, the speakers starts to have some background noise.
19 Great budget speakers!
These speakers provide excellent sound for under $50. A couple years ago, this set was one of the best you could buy and came highly recommended by many of the gaming sites I visited for comparison shopping. I have recently purchased a system that's completely top-notch with a Ghz processor and needed a great set of speakers for a low price. These perform beyond my expectations.

I haven't had any problems with radio interferance, but as a few others have reported the problem it's something to keep in mind. Also, the bass isn't the best, but for everyday uses such as watching DVD movies, playing games, and listening to music (which I do for hours daily) these speakers do a fine job. I personally love the sound quality coming from such small speakers, and for this price you won't find anything this good.

20 Good sound ruined by radio interference.
Like some of the other reviewers, I have had serious radio interference with these speakers which basically makes them unusable. Granted, I live on an upper floor in an apartment building in the city, but still, I haven't had this kind of trouble with any of the other speakers I've used previously with my computer. Basically, this unit has too many cables, they are too long, and -- most importantly -- they are poorly shielded. Also, they are hard wired into the unit so you can't substitute your own. This seems like a silly place to cut corners. I'm going to take these back to the store and try something else.
21 Read this Before You Buy
What everyone says about these speakers is that they are great for the price. I essentially agree with this. The things I found really annoying about this are the following: 1. The volume switch is located between the wire that goes from your computer to your speaker. Your suppose to mount the volume control on your monitor. This design seems very old-fashioned, and it also means you got more wires than you need to running around your desktop.

2. The bass on these speakers is not good- I don't understand what people who think the bass is good are talking about. The subwoofer is mediocre. You can barely hear the bass even at full power, and even if you could its heavily distorted.

3. The sbuwoofer and the satellites don't sync with changes in volume. In other words, if you change the volume on the switch I talked about above, you also have to crouch down and change the volume on your subwoofer otherwise you'll have quiet music, high bass or vice versa.

4. At low volumes, the speakers suffer from radio interference. On my speakers, I hear an AM talk radio station coming out of the satellites and the subwoofer. This is extremely annoying. As I type now, I can hear the radio interference coming out of the subwoofer.

I'm not happy about this product. In fact, I want to return it to get some better speakers, but I won't because I need a cheap set of speakers, and these speakers fit that, but you get what you pay for. Also, packing up the speakers again is a hassle that I don't want to have to deal with.

I use to have Yamaha speakers that rocked, but right now I'm kind of poor so I settled on these. Make sure you know what you're getting into before you pay.

22 Too many wires makes for a good radio antenna...
As soon as I plugged in the speaker system, I heard a radio station playing loud and clear, unaffected by the volume control or whether the speakers were connected to the computer. It is not even a station I like! The tech people sent many suggestions, none of which have helped. Essentially, there are too many wires, as the volume control has a seperate loop all to itself (as opposed to being part of one of the speakers). Too bad, because the sound is excellent for the price. Unfortunately, it has to compete with a loud, scratchy radio signal which ruins the effect. The tech support people seemed to know about this - makes one wonder...
23 Anne
We bought this for my son's computer for x-mas. Setup was about five minutes and the sound was amazing. He plays mostly games like IWD and Diablo II and it sounds like a war is going on in this room. Yes the bass is a little muddy at the high end but for $32 bucks no other upgrade will make as big of an impact as these speakers. I'll be buying a pair this week and donating my 70 dollar Yamaha's to a school.
24 Interference from Radio Station
I had a problem with these speakers in that they picked up a radio broadcast that was clearly audible when there was no sound from the source and discernible when there was sound from the source. I spoke to customer service and they said they were aware of the problem in areas with significant radio presence, i.e. large markets. I was told to wrap aluminum foil or ferrite rings around the wires. I used the aluminum foil--the interference was diminished but still present. Also, I didn't like the design of the volume and power controls. The power switch is on the bass unit, which if put under the desk is hard to get to. Also, adjusting the volume caused static in the speakers. However, when the source overpowered the interference, the speakers do sound really good. I traded the speakers in for a Phillips pair that sound much better, are better designed, do not pick up any interference and only cost $10 more. If you live in a large market, definitely pay the money to upgrade to a better set.
25 Simply WOW!
Excellent speaker system for the price. Extraordinary sound, and great Bass. Fully recomended to anyone shopping for computer speakers.
26 Wow! What Incredible Sound!
I can't believe the power in this little package. I am so impressed. I didn't believe that something could top my Altec Lansing Speaker System, but this blows the doors off of it. I recommend this little system to anyone.
27 NICE PAIR!!
Great bang for the buck. The sound is clear enough for me to abandon my boom box cd player for my computer's cd player. This is the way to go.
28 Not what I expected -- A Good Thing(tm)
When I ordered this set of speakers I was honestly expecting small, tiny sounding, satellites with a puny subwoofer to fill in the treble. I was suprised. Very good sound considering the price. You won't regret it.
29 What do you wanna do?
Like all sound systems, the value of this system depends on what you want to do. If you want a to enjoy music on a boat, trip, or on your computer without tinny and pathetic sound, then the PC Works sub+sat is perfect. it runs on relatively little power, and for that amount of power, pounds. its bass setting in the back lets you set it to whatever you want and forget about it. the volume control is easy to use, and let's you set your computer's volume to a default and forget it as well. the super long cords for the satellites allow for a lot of flexibility in placement. for sound itself, the little baby can really pound and sounds very clean. it can sound tinny at times, and is most definately not going to compete with a pair of Klipschs any time soon. however, for around thew same price, you WILL be hard pressed to find better. just don't expect miracles out of it and you will be most pleased. if you can, i would recommend going for the moreexpensive Sound Works Digital, also by CSW. it features a larger subwoofer and sats, and just sounds sharper and provides more boom in the bass. it is slightly more expensive, but you pay for what you get. in all, if you keep an open mind, and do not get too excited by the hype on the box, you will enjoy the CSW100s.
30 Great set of speakers.
I'm no audiophile. Increasingly, my music is stored in the form of 160 kHz mp3's so I can take it with me or put it in very large playlists on my computer. That implies some small amount of loss of sound quality. I'm the kind of guy who's happy to live with that.

That having been said, these speakers are ideal for the purpose. After side-by-side comparing them at a store with several other more mainstream brands, I was impressed at the amount of what those audiophile glossies call 'presence', especially at the low volumes appropriate for apartment dwelling. Beat the Altec and Labtec speakers hollow - dunno why, particularly. A Bose system was a little better - and about 10 times the price.

The large 'subwoofer' only gets frequencies that your brain's spatial localization system (mediated by the lateral lemniscus -> superior olivary nucleus pathways, if there are any neuroscientists reading this) isn't equipped to deal with. So set it under your desk, put the little 2 inch cubes on your desk (or hang em from something with the included 2-sided tape, each weighs about an oz.) and get ready for great sound at a great price! I originally bought a set for my computer but went ahead and bought extra sets for every room in my home, including the bathroom, so I can have 24-hour music now if I want. The price is right to do that!

31 I was surprised
Now I consiter myself a hardcore gamer. So for me I always get the bets hardwair I can. But when I went to get new sperkers I started reaching about the difrent typs of spekers. I fnal came to the disishon that I would get the Cambridge sound works pc works spekers. now dont think there not good because of the price. These are the best spekers I have ever owned and that includs my stero spekers. I am siting hear with the spekers a max and my house is shaking and I cant hear any sound disotion. Thes spekers are relly grate evry gamer sould have a pair of these!
32 Rock On!!!!!
When I first thought about buying these speakers I was a bit skeptical. Then my friend got them and he played DMX - Party Up for me and I thought it was his $3000 home entertainment system in the other room!!!! I was so amazed at the bass output! (I now own them, by the way) I would definitely recomend these! By the way, these are cheaper at buy.com

(amazon: you can cut the last line out if you want)

33 CREATIVE LABS IS THE BEST!
The sound that these speakers produce is unbelievable! They sound better than my mom's platform system. They will give your mp3's and wav's super powers. The bass from the kicker is very clear and low. The only thing I would recommend is to put a shirt or something soft under the kicker if you set it up on a desk because there will be too much "buzz." Great name, great price ... super deal!
34 Excellent for the small room
During my first ever trip to compusa, I was a awestruck by the sounds that the speakers on display were producing. On closer examination i figured that it was this set of speakers which had me overwhelmed. I had to buy it and so i did some time later- what definitely struck me was the price. The more important thing however is how it might sound in your college dorm room or your study which has the computer. The likely situation is that you are going to postion these speakers next to your monitor with the subwoofer somewhere below it. Thats what i did- the sound is awesome - it is very very rich. I was and still am absolutely in love with the product. However a work of caution: as you go further and further away from the speakers, the depth does fade a little. so dont plan to have this substituting your music system. But for playing games and listening to stuff on the computer, unless you have a lot of money to spend unnecesarilly, this is all you need. Volume is pretty good- i did manage to have a successful dance party using these speakers in my study!
35 No complaints
I bought these for the price and really did get more than what I paid for. If you're shooting for looks, you won't get it. These speakers are ugly and i hate the external volume control...makes for too many wires running around if your like me and have ethernet cables and a bazillion extension cords already. As far as sound goes I thought they were far more than serviceable. If you really like to turn it up I would recommend something a little more powerful, but if you have them in a smaller room and such they'll do great. Great price, nice sound, ugly packaging, but a definite recommendation overall.
36 Good for computer, not for music
Don't expect to get the sound that other pays thousands are getting. NO WAY! One FEET of a high-end audio speaker cable is more expensive than these, and rightfully so. However, I have to say the Cambridge Soundworks speakers definitely have to be the best in all the computer speakers I have ever used and tried.

As an ex-Hi Fi reviewer, this would be the verdict:

In terms of 'Hi Fi Audio', these cute little plastic box score a great 'F'.

In terms of practicality and useability for COMPUTER sound production, I would give it an 'A'.

I think that's fair now.

37 great value
Pros: low price, decent sound, unobtrusive, easy to set up. Unlike some 3 or 5-piece systems, the PC Works bass unit is shielded, in case you ever need to put it close to your monitor.

Cons: though it seems a bit silly to complain that a $50 set of speakers offers less than perfect sound reproduction -- heck, I've spent far more than that on speaker wire -- the "subwoofer" in this set is not really a subwoofer at all. It's a woofer, and exhibits a rather uneven frequency response. Still, the sound is fine for games and most Internet music content.

As long as you aren't expecting them to sound like a good pair of living room speakers -- don't believe the hype on the box -- you probably won't be disappointed.

38 for the price and size
these speakers are great, great sound from a cheap sound card, full sound and power.
39 Best Speakers on the Market
These speakers are a very good value. Speakers this good by other brands cost $100.00 and up! They work well on portable cd players, walkmans, desktops, laptops, palmtops, and more.
40 Superb Secondary System
I have these speakers in my kitchen hooked up to an old Sony Walkman CD player (the one that weighs about a pound and has a remote control). It sounds fantastic. I listen to a range of music from Kate Bush to Mozart's Requiem to Squirrel Nut Zippers and they all sound amazingly good. I don;t think you're going to find anything in speakers anywhere near this price that will compare. Placement of the woofer is important, and don;t be afraid to LOWER the woofer output a bit, especially at louder volumes. As I have this in my kitchen it is used for background music, but I have played them loud enough to really fill the room. I have another set hooked to my computer and again, abit of tuning makes a world of difference.
41 Great sound, little distortion
I love these speakers. They have a very nice low freq. response, but there is ONE problem. It resonates at a wide range of bass frequencies, and has bad port air turbulance. Something that should be fixed in the next model. It is annoying when the speaker distorts though. But still a good system!
42 SoundWorks, Good quality for a low price
After comparing sound quality in many computer speaker systems at an electronic retail store, I purchased the Cambridge Sound Works 100PC system. In the price range that I was considering, these speakers actually sounded as good as the more expensive Yamaha speakers and only slightly less powerful than the much more expensive Altec Lansing system. At home the CSW100PC performs even better than in the store where accustics leave much to be desired. Disappointed I am NOT in these little beauties. The Subwoofer provides ample power and limited distortion at all but the highest levels, and the matching of Subwoofer to sattelite speakers is flawless in my environment. I placed the subwoofer on a stand up off the floor to limit vibration and distortion. In my opinion, the CSW100PC can't be beat by anything in it's price range, and by most in a higher price range. **** It's a keeper.****
43 Awesome Sub/Sat Speaker System!
For under $50.00, you get an awesome sounding system that'll beat most other speakers twice the price! After plugging them in, I couldn't believe the sound! The only problems I encountered were as you move around the room, the bass levels seem to fluctuate - the separate volume control is not ergonomically friendly - should be built into one of the satellites. Overall, for the price, they're a GREAT value!
44 This is a buy!
These are the little devils of the speaker world. For someone who is pressed for space or is a newbie in the world of games and mp3s, these are great. they are easy to set up, well built, and take up little table space. the subwoofer is well sized and fits under any desk easily. the satillites are nice (place them in in opposite right-left corners for best sound). if you have the money, I would buy the four speaker set. it's by the same company, looks identical only has four satillites for better surround sound. both sets are great buys, especially for dorm rooms. serious gamers or music makers/mp3 players/trance writers will want the Klipsch ProMedia v.2-400 Speakers. anyone else, BUY THESE!
45 They are OK, but it there are some complains
This speakers seem great at the first impresion. It was impressive to see how big sound could come from such small speakers. Talking about sound, they satellites sound good. The highs are very clear, the middles are good, and the soundstage is great. The bass from the subwoofer is clear and accurate. But, it is underpowered. You can't play at high-normal levels, because the subwoofer begins to jump and distort. You can even hear the annoying sound of air going through it. And if you play it it at loud levels, the sound it's not balanced, and the sattelites begin to sound much louder than the sub, and the highs turn very harsh and unbalanced. The other problem is that connections are old-type and the cables are too long. So, it begins to look bad. The overall construction it's not so good, but it's OK. What seemed strange is that it is made in CHINA! Right, so so quality. Finally I can say that it sounds good when you play at low levels, but you should go for the Microworks that has a bigger sub.
46 surpisingly very good!!
I took a chance on these speakers after my aiwa boom box was stolen out of my friends car in the City a few weeks ago. These speakers hooked up to my disc man sound better than the boom box! I was estatic! They could handle all types of music I threw at them, from heavy metal to samba to classical to popular. The bass level is very sensitive and clear, doesnt distort the sound, and I got a really good volume out of the system. These are not just computer add-ons - these are great speakers at a really great price!
47 Great Bass
I bought This Product from a retail store about two weeks ago, this very compact, high endurance subwoofer produces GREAT bass ( better than my altec lansing i paid over 100 dollars for ) and the satellite arrays are excellent. For The price, you cannot beat it.
