1 Works with Linux and Windows XP (for me)
I bought this to use on a dual-boot Linux/Windows box, it works great in both environments.
2 A real Gem!
This modem is a real gem and a steal at it's price. I owned one for 3 years until it got zapped during a thunderstorm recently and now I am hunting around for another one. You get rock solid connections and excellent throughput and download speeds but one thing that really stands out is its ability to shrug off bad line conditions. I had installed dsl before my modems demise and it performed flawlessly even with the additional line noise brought on by dsl. If you are looking around for a modem as backup to your dsl/cable then look no further. You will be hard pressed to find a finer modem. BTW my pc is a Pentium 200mhz just so you know that this modem is totally undemanding on cpu cycles, in fact its minimum system requirements is a 100mhz cpu! If you look at other int modems out there you will see much higher cpu requirements because the modem depends on your cpu to do some of its work, but not this one! An excellent buy! No other modem comes close in terms of performance.
3 May have problems with XP
Have been running Windows XP. XP recognizes it as a generic fax/modem and answers the phone everytime it rings as a fax interfering with incoming calls. Creative has not released a driver for XP. It connects about 30 to 50% of the time on first try. Once connected the connection fails about 50% of the time. Have tried to get help from Creative, but nothing yet.
4 good modem, good price
The modem works well and installs easily.
5 Included software Stinks
I love the modem. All my other software works with it. But I still haven't got the SUPER VOICE 2.2 to work with it. I can recive calls but can't make them. I have tried new drivers and settings and nothing works. But the modem works fine with the Phone dialer and the TAD works great with the Sound Blaster Live soundcard. Good price great modem. Love it
6 DAMN GOOD
I just bought this product cuz the modem in my computer [was not good] and would only connect at the most 36kbps and it was slow and would kick me off all the time. So i bought this modem and now i connect at 115kbps and it works everytime.
7 Top Notch 56K Modem
Had clunky 28K modem for three years. Can't imagine why I waited so long to upgrade. Installation went easy. Logs on at 50K+. Faster than my new iBook at 46K from same location. Web pages "fly" now. Don't see why I'd want to pay $40/month for a DSL. Use PII 400 with USB MB. Plug and Pray worked fine.
8 Excellent Bargain
I bought this for a friend for Christmas, and I just installed it today. It works wonderfully. I had no problem with the pnp features; Win 98 detected it right away. Driver installation was no problem, and it connected at 52,000. This modem is an excellent buy. I gave it 4 stars because the fax software has no manual, and I'm still trying to figure it out. For this price, get this modem.
9 some problems at first but works fine
It was hard to install the card into my pci slot. A couple Driver Installation problems which made me call tech support. It achieved a fast connection speed of 48,000bps and quick download speed.
Great Product, few Installation problems
10 Great modem for the price
I've assembled a few dozen "budget" systems over the last few years and the one thing that always bothered me is how difficult it is to find a good quality modem at a low end system price. I'm usually thrilled to get 42-46kbps in my area. I recently had to buy a modem in a hurry at a chain store to finish up a machine and it happened to be the DI5630. I have to say that I'm impressed. I've been using the PCI version and over the last few months it's never connected at less than 48kbps. I've read some of the reviews about difficulties with the PnP feature of this card but have never come across this problem using the Win98 OS on any of the PCs I've built since then. I think this modem is about the best you can get for the money, and until I break down and get cable or DSL, this is the last modem I'm going to buy for myself.
11 More baud per buck!
When it comes to computer peripherals at this price, it's tempting to ask not how well it works, but does it work at all. Well, it won't intercept your emails while the PC's off, or grab faxes for you, or page you when an email arrives, but if you want those things you're in completely the wrong price-range. In reallity, I found setting this modem up to be very simple and straight forward, though I can see how the complete novice may get a little confused, and it has so far been a solid performer giving good connection speeds without sacrificing accuracy. My neighbour uses a $200 modem, and gets precisely the average 48 KBPS connection speeds that I get on this little budget gem. I'm not going into design features and build quality and all the other things you may be interested in if you were spending silly money, and as for reliability, well mine hasn't flinched in 2 years, so if it blows tomorrow I'll consider I had my money's worth. Capable and reliable this is a great choice for the budget conscious.
12 modem problems
The Modem Blaster DI5630 v.90 is the most for the dollar. I have built systems using many Top of the Line models from some of the biggst names in the industry. But when the phone system is not running perfect the Creative Labs product logs on at a higher speed 100% of the time by as much as 8 to 10 KBPS as is the easiest to install and configure. I would recomend this to anyone. I run this modem in my home and office. Thank you,
13 Best Modem anyone could ever wish for.
This modem is a fairly old model, I have had it for 3 years. I love this modem. I took it out of the box poped it in, started my computer and connected to the internet with no problems. At this time I am planning to replace my modem due to IRQ problems on my PC, I have decided to get an external modem from the same company. I am puchasing the Digicom\Creative DE5620 model. I have chosen this because of my success with this modem company.
14 AFFORDABLE WITH ACCEPTABLE RESULTS
IT WAS THAT TIME,I HAD BEEFED UP MY RAM,VIDEO CARD UPDATED TO A NEW VERSION OF AOL,THE TIME CAME FOR A NEW MODEM.I READ UP ON SOME OF THE MODEMS BUT I HAD NO IDEA WHAT I WAS FACING WHEN I WALKED INTO THE LOCAL COMPUTER STORE.BRANDS OF MODEMS I NEVER HEARD OF AND MY CONCERN WAS IT GOING TO BE THE RIGHT CHOICE? 3 CLERKS GAVE ME 3 OPINIONS WHICH DIDNT HELP.I FINALLY GOT THE CREATIVE MODEM 5630.IT BOASTED PNP,WELL THIS WASNT THE CASE,AFTER 3 TRIES I GOT IT TO LOAD THE DRIVERS AND THE OTHER ADD ONS WHICH WERE A PLUS.INTALLATION WAS 10 MINS TOPS. MY CONNCECTION SPEEDS WERE INCREASED.I RARELY CONNNECT BELOW 48000BPS.DEFINITELY AN INCREASE FROM 44000.ASIDE FROM THE PLUG AND PLAY DIFFICULTY I WOULD SAY IT WAS WORTH THE PRICE.
15 Reasonable Price,OK performance
Modem is a bit flaky and setup was time consuming. Not true PNP which didn't help-had to setup manually. Regardless of how clean the line is, modem rarely come close to maximum bps rating. Considering USR comparison based on recommendations from other users.
