2 Decent cam for price, beware toshiba owners...
My parents really like us having this cam as they can see their only grandchild on a regular basis. Yes, the lighting is an issue, but I just move a lamp over near my baby (at night) or open the shades (during the day) so they can see him clearly. Don't expect DV Cam resolution, etc. as you're only paying $31.99 after rebate. I think too many of these reviewers don't factor in the price and expect way too much for their money.
Note to Toshiba (i.e. Satellite) notebook owners. The screen on the laptop is curved at the edges which makes it much more difficult for this to remain well clipped. I'm constantly adjusting mine and wish the clip clasped a little further down on either side of the screen.
3 terrible image quality, even in typical lighting conditions
Just returned this webcam. Has terrible image quality, especially under low light conditions. Well, I would say even in average or typical lighting conditions, the imaging is still quite dark and noisy. Too bad, because I think they got the form factor right on this model.
4 what choice do i have?
i'm thinking of buying this notebook webcam, but i'd rather buy the nx pro. i bought one when amazon.com sold it for $39.99. now they don't sell it at all. i finding more and more products are not being sold by amazon.com but by other companies which is frustrating.
this camera is reviewed as bad with resolution but what choice do i have? it's either buy logitech which are expensive or buy a creative labs camera that marginally acceptable.
amazon.com i feel like i don't have any choices when you don't stock your webcams and other items.
5 Great form factor, lousy performance.
I give it 2 stars for design and zero for performance. The physical attributes of this unit are great - rock solid mounting bracket, small size, moderate cost. Unfortunately its performance is terrible - low res, bad color reproduction, lousy low light performance. A mobile user will likely encounter many sub-optimal lighting situations and this camera isn't up to the task. Avoid this model unless you absolutely need the tiny form factor and don't care about image quality.
6 A tiny mobile cam, that has a great image, in good light
I bought my Creative Notebook Cam, almost 2 months ago. It was a nice small size for, the new notebook, I was getting.
You can expect, a clear picture, in normal daylight, but the only con, is the picure that it produces at night, in lower light levels. The picture will get grainy & spotted, as well as the FPS dropping down, below a good level 30 FPS in US
25FPS europe, is the normal camera speed for video.
If you setup a 100watt bulb, within 10 feet behind the notebook cam, it will be fine all night long.
7 Adequate for a Traveling Camera
I got this unit for use on a laptop. Something small, portable and easy to use. To that end it does it job. Setting, getting it clipped to the LCD screen, getting it positioned right is all easy enough. The Field of View is adequate for likely use.
The image quality on the other hand is not as great as others I have used (Logitech 4000 and Isight). The image is somewhat dark and grainy but still passable. The edges are not very well focused at all.
You should also note that there is no microphone either. You'll either need to shout at your laptop or get an external mic.
Installation and configuration was pretty much by the book on my windows 2000 Dell Latitude LS. No real surprises or problems.
As long as all you plan on being is a talking head and you need something fast and light this little guy will do the job. But if you want to do more than that your better off with something a bit bigger.
8 Poor image quality
On the plus side, camera is tiny, and the spring loaded clip works well with notebook PCs. This makes it good for traveling.
On to the negatives... Image quality is very poor, espeically in medium to low light. Pictures are very grainy and even with a 60 watt lamp in the room, still seemed underexposed. Software controls were not as easy to figure out as one would expect.
I gave it a low rating, because I really think that image quality is the most important factor. Design is great - i only wish image quality was better.
9 Portable, easy to use but quality is subpar
If you are strictly looking for a notebook/laptop webcam that only requires the minimum standards as far as quality goes, this may be your choice. I was not happy with the quality at all. Low lighting (zero lux +) gives slower fps (frames per second) and terrible resolution.
Pros:
Small and nice design
Install is easy though the program makes you go through hoops just to change some simple settings
Will work with decent quality with decent lighting.
Cons:
Just like any 'cheapie' webcam, the quality is par to sub-par as far as quality goes.
For $40 bucks, I think you may get better quality from other webcams. The reason why it costs more is because of its size.
10 Great webcam for travelers
great design, small, but the quality is not the best.
I'll like it because is really small and you can tke it with you everywhere.
