1 Router Performs as Stated
I've had this for about 2 months now and never bothered to write a review because it works fine. I imagine most people come here to write a review because the product wasn't working for them and they need to vent somewhere. So on the other hand the people for whom this router works fine for don't post any reviews because they have forgotten they have a router (since they aren't getting reboots, and don't have to fiddle with settings) or they don't feel the need to post a review if all they have to say is that it works.

For me I got this as a hand me down from a friend who purchased a firewall and an access point seperately. So I got this router and replaced my older all metal casing router. I forget what brand it was, but it didn't have wireless and my laptop now has built in wireless so I figured this would do fine.

And guess what? It has been running with zero problems since I got it. I have never upgraded the firmware, and frankly don't know what version I am running right now, but I know this router is working fine.

I don't believe I have a reboot problem, but if I do I don't notice it. The Internet works non-stop and the wireless range is suprisingly very good. I feel very protected with MAC address filtering on and DHCP notched down to only 5 IPs since I only have 3 PCs totaly in my home.

I can't tell you what it is about this DI-624 that is working perfect and why others are having a hard time because I just don't fiddle with it much.

I've heard theories as to why the router reboots and my friend who gave this to me said he got his working better by simply changing the wireless channel he was using from the default channel 6 to channel 1 or 11. I changed mine to 11 when I first got it and I've never had any problems. So you can try that if you are one of the people having problems.

I hope this helps add to the few people that actually write reviews about how this router DOES work well for them.
I have to give this 5 stars because the router performs just the way it is supposed to.
2 Stay away from this piece of junk
When it works, it works fine. Otherwise, the continual dropping of its Internet connection is a royal pain. Absolutely no reason for that to happen. Update the firmware? How about this D-Link: why don't you fix the problem in the first place before you sell it? You're so fired.
3 The Great Rebooting Router Mystery Tour
This is an inexpensive, easy to setup router / firewall combo.

You'll be fine if you do no online gaming or anything requiring consistent connectivity.

There are ongoing, unresolved issues with DLink routers and how they handle a PADT packet from your ISP's equipment.

This router handles the command by not only disconnecting, but by also REBOOTING itself. This leads to a 15-30 second disconnect condition while the device reboots.

I'm sorry to say I really can't recommend this item (it's rebooted 3 times while writing this!)

4 Best Router Ever!
OK this might have been my only router I've ever owned, but it is the best. I had a constant problem with my Internet disconnecting and thought it was the router, so I upgraded the firmware, reset, and called tech support. They helped my troubleshoot and found that it was my cable modem that was causing the problem. I was relieved that it wasn't this D-Link router.

So my cable company replaced the modem, and now everything works great!

Thanks for the reliability D-Link!
5 worked great for about 3 weeks.
All of these folks writing reviews about how great it works, just wait a while. It will break. Mine was good for about 3 weeks, now it just freezes up constantly. I know that many other people experience the same thing. Now I have to buy another one, it's not worth my time to talk to support for two hours and then return it to them. You can get a linksys for about $50.
I strongly recommend avoiding D-link. BTW, the reviewers will names like "darth nerd" and "geek" work for D-link. When in doubt, check out their other reviews.
6 Ok for 6 months...now nothing
Ok, at first I was impressed. It worked right out of the box, not a problem. I have had the thing for 6 months now and suddenly its dead. Spent 2 hours on with tech support...they can't fix it. Now they agree to RMA it but I had to pay for shipping...they will look at it and then send us another one if it is broken...in the mean time I have to deal with not being able to use the internet..just use my roomates computer which we just connected now directly to the internet modem. This is ridiculious!! I plan on just buying a new one becuase I don't have a month or two to wait on D-Link to look at it and tell me its broken nor the time to pack all this up and send it back to them at my expense. Come to find out all kinds of people have had the same problem. STAY AWAY! Get a belkin or linksys router...you'd be better off.
7 Powers My Expansive Luxury Home
How's that for a title line?
That's right this bad boy is what provides myself and my beautiful family with hours of endless fun. Well OK the "Internet" actually does that, but this router from D-Link helps share our conenction and keeps us safe from all those mean script kiddies out there.

The wireless range on this bad boy is pretty good, but still can't reach all corners of my home, but that's expected since my house is so big. I got a sweet wife AND a boat too. So to get the wireless signal to cover more of my home I bought a couple DWL-G800APs and set them up on opposite ends of the house near the end of the DI-624's range. Then those DWL-G800AP's repeat the signal from the DI-624 and whammo! my wireless coverage has expanded.

The security is top notch for it's price point, and I greatly appreciate the ease of use from the web based interface. D-Link makes it easy to upgrade firmware and each new firmware either fixes something I never had a problem with, or adds new features.

Overall this item is great and I'd recommend getting one even if you don't live in a big masion like me and my beautiful fammily.
8 Works Perfectly
I plugged it in and upgraded firmware ASAP. Then I did a quick recon of my available options. WOW! there are a lot of options at this price point.

Next I setup my wireless configuration with an emphasys on wireless security. I can allow only certain MAC addresses, have WEP enabled, or WPA, and only passout a certain number of IP addresses, thus allowing only as many PCs on my network as I need. Awesome!

Now the reliability of this router seems to be in question. And I don't doubt others have problems as it seems there are enoug of them, but I bought this off of recommendations from others who have it working. I'm not sure what other people's specific problems are, but this router works great for me and has been for months.
9 D-Link works pretty well
This router is easy to configure and seems to have better range than the B version (which I have). The range increase is worth getting this extra speed.
10 This Router Works Great!
There isn't much I can say about this router, except that it works wonders for us here at home. We use it to share our Internet conenction between 4 PCs and a wireless laptop. The laptop has become ultra portable and is very useful with it's wireless capabilities. We don't have any problems with the PCs not connecting, or staying connected to the router/internet.

All the good things are pretty much covered by everyone else here in the reviews. Bascially it's easy to use and it works. I don't think you can ask for much more than what this provides.
I recommend upgrading the firmware when you get it though as the copy loaded onto the router may be an older version.
11 Major Problems with Web Interface and Set up
I have mixed feelings about this router. Once I got it set up the wireless connection and ethernet works great, but anytime I try to access the router's web based configuration utility from my Dell Dimension desktop pc (which is connected to the router via ethernet cable), the utility load AS SLOW AS MOLASSES. As a result, it takes almost 20 minutes to go through the "easy" set up wizard that should take no more than 2, and all of that time is just waiting for the page to load. as a result of this, troubleshooting problems on the router has becore for me an all day affair.

Also, I have discovered that if you live in the Atlanta, Georgia area and you use this product in conjunction with Earthlink DSL service, you have to set up the router with the "dynamic IP" setting instead of the "PPPoE" setting as D-Link recommends. Because I couldn't figure out why the standard setup didn't work and the Web configuration utility ran SOOOOOOOO SLOOOOOOOOOOW, setting this thing up took all day. Again, D-Link Tech support was NO help whatsoever and even told me "it shouldn't work with that setup, but i guess it does, so just leave it that way". Real professional troubleshooting.

For some bizarre reason, though, the configuration utility runs just fine when I access it from the Compaq Presario 2500 laptop a bought several months later. I tried turning off all the security applications and checking for spyware/viruses on my desktop to see if that was casuing the slowness problem, but the PC is clean. I have no idea what is causing this issue and D-Link technical support refused to help me figure out why the router sucks with my Dell since that is "an unsupported problem".

12 Special Router with Years of Improvement
This router has been on the market for many years now and it just keeps getting better. With the new hardware upgrades (faster processor, more memory, etc.) and firmware upgrades (more effecient speeds, and reliability) this is only getting better with age.

If you are looking for a well seasoned router that's been through the ringer and back, this is your router. All the features this thing has is incredible. For being such a reasonable price this router has a very good features to price ratio.
13 Excelent Router
I think this is an excelent router i recomended a lot i give it 4 stras because at thebegining i used to have the reebot problems but then i just run the wizard once and it wasll all great.
It has an excelent speed and stability also has a very good range.
14 Working all Month with No Problem After Firmware Update
OK the first week I had this I was bummed because it seems my Internet connection would drop every 8 hours or so. I don't know what caused it, but it happened. I just had to reboot the router to make it work again.

Well now I got the latest firmware and I think it is fixed. I forgot to check for new firmware the day I brought it home and didn't think that it would solve my problem. But it did, and I wish I would have looked sooner.

The overall use of thei router is pretty easy to figure out. I like being able to log into it from my web browser anytime I want. The performance of this router is good enough for me. i don't think this is breaking any speed records, but it certainly is a little faster than my old router. Just not amazingly fast, ya know?

Wireless works great and has never dropped signal within my fairly-big apartment.

If this router is in your price budget, and it should be, since it's one of the most inexpensive for its features, then I'd recommend getting one. I have to give it 5 stars for being able to do whatever I want whenever I want after the simple and free upgrade of the firmware.
15 A Wireless Router that Provides Good Wireless Coverage
With this easy to use wireless router from D-Link I've been able to get many PCs online via our wireless network. I actually happen to share my Internet connection with my neighbor in the apartment next to me. I have this router up against a wall in my office which happens to share a wall with my neighbors "office" as well. So instead of drilling a whole in the wall I just let him know the WEP key and SSID and he can connect his desktop up to the Internet. And we split the Internet cost.

With a product this easy to use and reliable it's no wonder it is very popular. I'm happy to say that I had zero problems with the orginal setup, or with upgrading firmwares, although having to re-enter all my configurations is a pain, I can live with it.
16 Best ... Router ... Ever
I bought this when I bought my new cable modem (DCM-202) and I replaced both at the same time and now my Internet connection is faster and more reliable. I'm not saying your Internet connection will speed up with this router, just that mine did, and that I am estatic about it all.

The router was super simple to setup due to the helpful quick install guide and the wizard thingy in the router. It almost connected automatically since I have a cable modem internet connection, but I wanted to setup the wireless security before I got online.

Wireless range is adequate and covers most of my two story home, except for some areas due to walls and things. I get decent wireless speeds with this deivce and I havent had too much trouble to where I blame this router.

Overall it's great and deserves more praise then some people give it. Thanks for reading.
17 Use this with a DWL-G650 Wireless Card for best results!
I have this router and the whole wired section works great, and so does the wireless! Yep, I've had trouble with wireless routers before, but this one has never given me any problems. It even connects other brands to it quite well. I've had friends come over with thier built in wirelss and this router lets them connect just fine.

The installation went smoothly, the internet connection is always on and never "breaks", AFAIK, and the wireless coverage in my home is very good. I can even be outside on my porch and even close to the street and still have a connection good enough for web browsing. I can't get enough of roaming around my house with a solid Internet connection.

MP3s stream just fine over wireless so I can listen to my Desktop's MP3 collection through my laptop utilizing the wireless network. I know these are all simple things, but I've heard plenty of people complain about these things with their wireless routers. So if you do any of these things I've mentioned and you've had problems before, like me, then get this DI-624 and relax.
18 This router Rocks me like a Hurricane!
This thing has been powering our home network for a good 6 months now and I don't see anything that's bad about it. This router just plain and simple does its job. It does it reliably as well.

I don't remember much about the installation, but I guess that speaks for itself right there. I just remember I didn't have any major problems thanks to the install guide.

I've even had friends come over and they were impressed that my router worked and theirs didn't, so they actually went out and bought on of the same and said it's better than what they had.

Thanks D-Link. :)

19 Solid and Reliable Router that's Easy to use
At first I had no patience for all the rebooting I had to do within the settings. Setup everything so it can connect to the Internet, reboot, find new firmware, download it and install new firmware, reboot. set all the right setting again to connect to the internet, reboot. Forget to change something you did before, set it, reboot.

But that's all over with and now I can get to getting everything I want on the Internet. Some advice to new users is to download the latest firmware BEFORE you take out your old router and upgrade to this new one. It will save you time. :)

I feel that overall the entire setup process was straightforward and to the point. No extra toolbars to install, no hidden agendas, no unecessary features to enable, no necessary features are hidden on some hard to find page within the configuration interface, etc.

Now with weeks of uptime with this router I am pleased with my purchase and would recommend it to other. I actually all ready have recommended it to others. :)
20 I Well Thought Out Wireless Router
I appreciate simple and functional design, and although this isn't the antithesis of either of those this router does feel easy on the eyes and brain.

I was able to setup the router in about 10 minutes. My PCs connected almost immediately, my internet connection was quick to associate with the router, and even my wireless laptop worked right away.

I felt comfortable with the interface because of the big tabs and no hidden links that need to be found before you can do soemthing essential.

I get great range with my wireless laptop, my PCs in the back room get a stong wireless signal, and I've not been disconnected from the Internet randomly or systematically.

Basically I am very pleased with the way this worked out, specifically because of the easy setup, wireless range, and intuative interface.
21 Reliable and reasonably priced...
This peace is just a child play to get networked in home
wirelessly. I could just get everything done in 20 minutes time.
I could turn on the secure network and it just works the way it
has been described in the simple and neat setup manual.

Since the router includes 4 LAN ports the same can be used for
wired connection if you're sitting close to the router.

I just recommend this if you're NOT too much worried about every
minute details of the technology.
22 Resets itself for no reason
Some setup screens did not match the documentation, having extra fields that were not explained anywhere. The prompts for the fields that were there could have been better chosen to be more self-explanatory. I've set up routers before and there were several things in the setup screens I didn't understand.

I was happy with the range, which seems to be a little better than that of the comparable Linksys WRT54G -- though that might have had more to do with a slightly different placement of the unit. I would say the range is at least as good.

I had to call tech service four times because of problems I had after the router was already set up and working. Each time I called, I had to give the full details of router, model number, firmware version, and so on, apparently because the techs often forget to save the information when they are done with a call, though they are expected to do so (each time I gave my phone number, they said, "Oh, I see this is your first call."). One of the techs was rude and hung up on me. Two techs gave me contradictory information.

The main problem that eventually forced me to return the router, is that it resets itself occasionally, interrupting my connection for a second or so. This affects the wired-in connections to the router as well as the wireless. So with my desktop system, connected to the router with a LAN cable, suddenly I see the "You have no connection" balloon, then right away the "You are connected at 100M...". At times I've seen them flashing on and off like broken traffic signals.

Aside from the annoyance of these notices popping up all the time, some software I use (AT&T Net Client VPNS) notices the brief outage and shuts down, so it makes the router unusable to me.

I was able to reduce, but not eliminate, the interruption by installing the version 2.50 firmware. Someone in their tech service told me that the cause was radio interference, and that the router would reset itself if there was a lot of radio noise in the 2.4Ghz bands, e.g. from cordless phones. "You understand we're talking about a computer that's hooked to the router with a cable, right?" I asked. Apparently he did understand this. When I pointed out that this was a stupid way to design a router, he hung up on me. Another technician swore that the router would not reset LAN connections because of radio noise, but didn't offer any other explanation, nor did his suggestions for changing settings solve the problem. In the absence of any other ideas, I have to conclude the first tech was probably correct. Since a poor design is the culprit rather than an individual defective unit, I returned it and will not buy a new one -- nor any of their other products, ever again.
23 If you don't care for 24x7 connection, it's still decent
This router is simple to configure and use.
However, there are 2 major problems I can not get over with:
1. It doesn't not work with 11.b wireless cards in encryption mode.
2. It drops connections very very very randomly, from once a day to every 5 minutes on a random night.

At first I thought it was cable modem problem, and spoke with cable company. Recently when it finally decides to stop working on its own for no reason, and I was forced back to direct connection w. cable modem, my connection hasn't dropped since.

Of course, I haven't had a chance to try the newest firmware. It was good for 1.5 year usage of it. It's time for me to try a new one.
24 A Full-Featured High-Performance "Piece of Junk".
I used to love D-Link so I replaced my old "b"-band di-614+ with this "G"-band Xtreme di-624 and what a day and night.

I would give some stars for it's performance and features but the hassle dealing with its problems is not worth it.

Go do a Google search for "d-link di-624" and you would read from countless victims of this product.

It works great when it chooses to. But sometimes it just does not want to connect with the cable modem. Or it just keeps restarting every few minutes like most users have complained. It also seemed that one must use a special "crash recovery" method to load the newest firmware (2.50). Either firmware for my Rev.C router yields the same results. Normally a couple reboots with manual network cable disconnect/reconnect would make the router 'fly' again but would not stop me from constantly turning my head to the modem to check for connection light.

I would spend a little more and give up some features for a stable and worry-free router. I would even consider buying the old "b"-versions but not this junk. I think paying consumers really want a stability and a worry-free, or at worst a fixable router.
25 A Problem Router
Stay away from this router (and D-Link). I purchased the DI-624 in September and after 30+ days, started having problems with the router rebooting (dropping connection) and locking up one of my Java programs. After many hours on the phone with their technical support people, they determined the router was faulty and should be replaced. I sent the router to them and they sent me an identical router (identical in every way). Within days, the new router exhibited the same problem. After several support people tried to help me, they turned me over to what I think was a specialist with a call back number. After trying several things, he said to return the router and they would send me a different router that should solve the problem. He stated that this model probably would not work in my situation.

He made arrangements and I completed the paperwork for the change. Then I received a call stating that I would owe an additional $30 for the upgrade. I am not into sending good money after bad, so I cancelled the upgrade and told them to send me another DI-624. So, after six months of dealing with D-Link, I would advise others to stay away from this brand altogether.

26 D-Link Routers are ok.
I am a network administrator with a lot of experience with various routers, switches, hubs, etc. Wireless is still a relatively new technology but I think the lastest revisions of this model work fairly well for what they are designed to do. I am somewhat dismayed that most of the router manfucturers have off-shored their tech support. I would guess that D-link just followed suit so they could compete on price. I have one of these in my home. I have it connected to DSL modem, wired to the desktop and wireless to the laptop. The range is fine and it provides a reliable 24/7 Internet connection.
27 Drops connections periodically - AVOID!!!!!
This router frequently drops connection (a little window saying a network connection has been unplugged pops up).

After searching the net I found that it is an extremely common problem and as of yet, there is no fix.

It's usually for only a second or few but if you are in the middle of a transfer or if you are gaming, it's really annoying.

I would not buy this router again.
28 Good features but not dependable
I have had this product about 9 months and although it usually works well, I have had various problems with line dropping and VPN support.

Similiar to other posts I've read, I frequently experience disconnects throughout the day - even when I am in the same room as the AP. I also get a very poor connection to my linksys 802.11b bridge in the next room.

The device also reboots when I am trying to connect to my company VPN.

However I do like the feature set and it was very easy to setup.
29 A Simply Great Little Router
I have owned three DI-624's since the product line has been released spanning all three hardware revisions. 2 are still in use and one was lost (rev B) to a great dane puppy that thought it to be a new toy for him to play with. (Note - although well made, the D-Link is definitely NOT a good dog toy.) I have also owned 2 Linksys and 1 Netgear router and have found the D-Link to be the best (IMHO) of the hardware I've owned in terms of ease-of-use, range, and uptime. That's not to say I didn't experience a few hiccups with the D-Link, I did encounter a couple of firmware updates that had less than happy results (see reboot issue in other reviews), but these were usually resolved easily with reverting back to the prior firmware revision until a replacement update was available. I can't fault this with D-Link as I've encountered this with the Linksys as well. Sometimes mistakes are made and they make it to the public, it happens and I'll bump them a star for it. But all in all I have been nothing but satisfied with my purchases and would recommend the DI-624 to anyone looking for a wireless "G" router.
30 Very Disappointed
I purchased this unit in November and almost immediately there was a problem with the router rebooting itself. Sometimes it would reboot after a couple days and sometimes it would reboot every few minutes or so. This was very aggrevating. I downloaded and upgraded to the new firmware v2.50 thinking this may take care of the problems. It did not. I emailed customer support and they suggested that I perform a "recovery" on the router. I was also instructed to call customer support in the event this process did not work. I followed their instructions and to no avail, the problem still continued. I called customer support and spoke to a very nice representative. He had me change a couple settings and advised that this should take care of it. In the event that it did not, he suggested that I return the router for a new one or send it to D-Link per their RMA policy and they would send out a different unit within a couple weeks. He advised that if I returned it to D-Link, they could not assure that I would receive a new router from them. It may be a refurbished router. After my call with customer service, the router problems began again almost immediately, rebooting itself every minute or so. I finally decided to give up and purchase the Linksys WRT54G wireless router. The Linksys router works perfectly so far. I would not recommend purchasing the DLink DI-624 router.
31 The Missing Link
I have had this router for 5 months. It will drop the wireless connection at random. So, I will be in the middle of something online then I am not online anymore. I have tried to work with D-Link tech support but they do not have an answer. It is not worth the money for this product.

You will be missing your link and missing your money.
32 Gets the job done
I had a Belkin 54Mbps router and took it back because it didn't have the range I needed. At about 30' away, it was losing connection with four different wireless cards.

So, I got an Airlink 108Mbps rounter and took it back because I didn't like the software inside of it. On the other hand, it had the range I needed.

So, I bought a Belkin 125Mbps. Again, same user friendly software and firewall, but no range. So, back it went.

On the suggestion of a friend who is a network administrator with a wireless phone service provider, I got the D-Link. The price is better than the Belkin, the software is almost as good, and it has the range of the Airlink.

The D-Link is staying.
33 Poor Quality, permanently defective product line. AVOID!
The DI-624 product line is completely defective.
Do yourself a favor and search google for 'DI-624 reboot'
I have gone through 3 units, and each one of them exhibits the same problem. They stay connected to the internet for a while - sometimes a day, sometimes only 10 minutes at a time - and then spontaneously reboot, causing loss of internet connection for ~10 seconds, a re-connect with my ISP, which results in a new IP address.
I have filed a Better Business Bureau report against D-Link, and I have spent months, actually months, trying to get a product exchange for a different model router.
I would avoid this router.
I have had great success with D-Link routers in the past. I had one function for two years buried under cables and dust without a glitch.
The DI-624 seems unique in it's fatal problems.
34 Finally Working
I thought I'd like this product but had a lot of trouble right from the start. Called D-Link and they said that I'd need new firmware and that my unit may be an older "vintage" but with the same Model name. I'm fairly computer savy so I didn't have much trouble with the process but not happy that I have an "older" unit. That said, I found the range very limited. I have a Cisco router (Linksys) and the range (right next to my new D-Link) is far superior. I'd say the Linksys is offers about twice the range. So, because of the problem with the firmware and the poor range I'm only giving the unit 3 stars. The good part is it seems to work consistently at close range with no hiccups so far.
35 UNRELIABLE ON TWO DIFFERENT UNITS
I went wireless using DI-624. It took a long time working with a phone tech to get it set up. Wonderful customer service, but it took over an hour. Then I had wireless! It was incredible for three months. Until it quit working. Ninety minutes with their customer service reveakled the unit was broken. They encouraged me tio send it back. They replaced it. Three months of wonderful wireless. Now the second unit is broken.

I am moving over to Linksys. Wish me luck!
36 best router
I have 3 wireless routers. Linksys, Netgear, and this one. By far, this has the best signal, and it also seems faster than the other ones. It does need to be reset once in a while, unlike Linksys, but no biggie
37 This Router Performs Smooth and is Overall a Great Router
I like the simple way this allows you to set it up. Setup wizards in a router are very useful. I was able to plug this into my network, go through the setup wizard and reboot the router all in 2 minutes. I was up and running directly after that reboot, it was great.

I get adequate wireless coverage in my home with this router as well. I can't think of what more I'd want from this wireless router. My wireless PCs in the back rooms stay connected and are quite stable contrary to other people's expereinces.

I like the fact that D-Link is able to keep upgrading the firmware on this router. I just noticed the other day how there is a new firmware out. So I downloaded it, installed it into the router and was back up and running with new features and I think I noticed a slight boost in speed. But I'm not sure.

Overall this router is great. Being that it is easy to use and stable.
38 Poor signal quality - not recommended
I have an old Netgear MR814 rev. A that is 802.11b and I wanted to upgrade to 802.11g. I decided to get a DI-624 since the review was good on CNET. Sorry to say my review isn't as good. This router just didn't have as strong a signal as my ancient Netgear. I thought for sure the technology had improved since my last purchase. Maybe DLink sacrificed speed for reliability, but I think that's a mistake. The features provided in this router are good, but the signal quality just isn't up to snuff. I did upgrade to the latest firmware at the time 2.50, but that didn't help. I don't recommend this router.
39 DI-624... a great little Firewall/Router
First of all you can completely implement the NSA firewall hardening guide on this firewall (except going to 256 bit encryption). It has everthing you would ever want if you are concerned about security. The port 113 Identity port keeps talking though you can route incomine to a nulled IP you set up. I use external scanners to show me that all ports are completely stealthed (totally non-reactive to outsiders--as if nothing is there).

Full featured in every way... it mails you its logs, can get time info from timing sites, has a full HTML interface, can be remotely managed (securely), and much more. The D-Link web site has full tutorials on it and FAQs and that is a huge plus for neophytes.

My only complaint would be that that I don't get enought signal strength to reach but about half way through my home. I guess I would need a repeater (which D-Link sells). You can also get higher gain antenna for the DI-624 to boost range. The range is much dependent on the receiver sensitivity of your WiFi devices though. Some of my devices work anywhere others I need to move closer to the DI-624.

Oh yeah... works great with Packet8 VoIP and also Xbox Live. All my kids have a TV and Xbox in their rooms and can play against one another through the Intranet (internal home LAN) from room to room. Especially great for Halo2 cause you get a full screen to look at and your opponent can't see your screen and know what you are up to.
40 Bad compatibility and customer support
I had troubles with ths router - it didn't handle communication with Linsys G card. But the most surpising experience is one with customer support - unprofessional and rude. It's a last time I'm buying their products.
41 Wonder router especially if you have a Toshiba A75 laptop
I have been using this router for 3 months and never regret that I bought it. Things I like about it:
1)Signal strength: the connection sustains until I get about 50 meters away from my apartment.
2)Speed: I have a Toshiba laptop (A75 series) with built-in Atheros super-G wireless card (actually this is the main reason I went for this router). As I suspected, I get a stable connection speed of 108M bps out of it! So it is not true that a DLink super-G card is required to get the super-G speed. I would expect a Netgear super-G card can get 108M connection with this router too.
3)Stability: the router has not failed my connection once yet.

42 Great Product
I purchased a D-Link DI-624 router to set up a wireless network at home. I was originally running my network with just two wireless D-Link network cards. I was running in ad-hoc mode (peer to peer), but realized it would be better to purchase a router to share my printer and cable internet connection without worrying about both PCs being turned on.

I haven't had any major problems at all with the router. Installation is simple if you follow the instructions provided. It is advisable to make sure you have the lastest OS software and router firmware updates for optimal performance.

Overall, this is a great product.
43 Don't go near this product!!!!!
Never seen a gimmick like this product. I am an experienced techie and I have not seen a useless product and a pathetic after sales service like dlink. The product does not work out of the box - may do for very few. I had 3yr "old" 3com products which worked well with every wireless device in the house. I thought I will upgrade to a faster standard using this product, but this product is shambles. Technical support is non-existent. you will NOT get thru, if you do, they will cut you off or blame their "outsourced" service in Denmark! The router keeps dropping connection and you will be lucky if you get more than 30MBS even when in front of the router. I can;t think what interference one could have in that situation! I have never seen it go above 48Mbs even in "Super-G" mode let aside standard 803.11g which gives you 54mbs.
All in all if you don;t want to pull your hair out, go for 3COM or LinkSys products which I believe do exactly what they say on the box and you might actually get some technical support!
44 Great Router and Value.
After my Linksys wireless router conked out and I got the reason as 'It happens' I went with a different Mfg. I selected D-Link after a couple of co-workers (I work in an engineering dept) recommended it.

Setup/Installation:
It was a nice surprise to find the installation so easy. I was up and running in under 10 mins with my Cable Modem and my desktop.
I configured my laptop and got that running in under 5 mins.

Features:
Wow does this thing have features. Support of VPN is nice but I really like the ability to route various requests to an ip address and a port. I can setup remote desktop to go to my desktop and only my desktop. I can setup ftp requests to come in at on port 33 to go to a server listening on port 21. Its nice.

The GUI is easy to use and features are easy to find. Anywhere from being able to deny access to certain IP addresses to Setting up Virtual Servers. The feature list is exhaustive. Even if you don't understand the full feature set the wizard will guide you through basic setup and the defaults will suffice most peoples needs.

My company's VPN worked with no problems (previous routers had to be configured specifically to support it).

Performance: (LAN is fine so I will limit this to WLAN)
I have definitely noticed a vast improvement in performance and range. No more poor or fair signals downstairs. I usually get at least a good signal everywhere I use my laptop. Supporting B and G modes is a nice feature b/c friends can come over and have their own wireless cards. I have tested the WLAN performance transferring huge amounts of data (over 2 GB) and man did this beat expectations.

Reliability:
I have had this router for a while now (almost 6 mos) and I probably turn it off (kickstart it) once a month. That is b/c it is something I like to do, the device does not require it. All I can say is that I have yet to see a hiccup in reliability and not a single firmware update has been needed (which is a nice change in this product market)

Overall: I recommend this product without hesitation. Get one get wireless in no time.

The router has a built in firewall but I still recommend having ZoneAlarm or something similar installed.

Enjoy the range and speed of Wireless G!
45 Ripoff
I bought this product from Best Buy about a year and a half ago; my family got cable and a wired network just wasn't feasible with our layout, so we went with this D-Link device.

Connection drops every few minutes, and sometimes it won't come back up until the router is rebooted...which requires unplugging the router and the modem, then putting them through their boot cycles one at a time. When it works its best we do this every other day, at its worst we do it daily; today it had to be rebooted three times in one hour.

I've tried multiple connection devices, DWL 122, DWL G650, DWL G520, and whatever one came built into my sister's Dell. Getting closer to the router hasn't helped; it still even dropped packets. (As an example, an instant message or two may simply never reach me.)

Needless to say, my family's looking for something new since their tech support's suggestions were useless.
46 Not the right upgrade for us.
We currently use an older Microsoft MN500 wireless router, which has been a bit disappointing to us. Our main need is to get reception in the basement, and the MN500 just wasn't giving good coverage. So we decided to get a new "G" unit and hope for better speed and coverage.

The good news: installed fairly easily, and the tech-help was helpful. We sorted things out and had it up and running in about 45 minutes.

The bad news: using our existing 11b receivers, there was a slight slowdown in speed. And the broadcast strength is about equal to the MN500.

We're taking it back to the store.

If you want this , you probably should be upgrading to 11g all around, and you shouldn't be trying to broadcast a signal very far.

47 108 Mbps is NOT working
I use DI-624 and DWL-650 with Dell 600m. The 108 Mbps or Super G just doesn't work, the wireless connection drops every 10-20 min. Make sure you visit http://www.broadbandreports.com/forum and search for paeDISCONNECTED and you will meet many unhappy users there. I have tried both 2.42 and 2.50 firmware and many things suggested in http://www.broadbandreports.com/forum. The only way to make DI-624 and DWL-650 work for me is to disable Super G. DI-624 also works with my 802.11b came with Dell 600m.
48 not recommended!!!
pros:

all the unimportant features that it claims to do.

very fast and pretty good range.

cons:

-all the features are useless if the router reboots and drops every hour. (even every minute sometimes)

-firmware 2.42 drops my entire connection, which means i have to turn off my dsl modem as well as rebooting the router.

-the newly upgraded 2.50 firmware is worse. people who are considering to buy this router will get the 2.50 version.

-firmware 2.50 have issues with routers rebooting, not connecting, i can't obtain a ip address sometimes with my dell 600m.

http://www.broadbandreports.com/forum/remark,11580469~mode=flat~days=9999~start=160

the link will tell you what other people think about the frequent reboots.

-terrible tech support.

-the advertised 108 mbps does not acheive expectations. (extremely noticeable when transferring files from a desktop and laptop, vice versa)
49 Perfect
I purchased this for my home, and it works superb. Easy to install, easy to set up. Works perfectly. I haven't tested the speed of it, the restriction in speed is limited by my DSL anyway. It covers my entire apartment perfectly. Extra features as requiring password to use it was also no problem installing.
50 Works properly most of the time
Setting up was quite simple if one is familiar with some of the terms that are thrown around in the WiFi context. Haven't had any major problems. But every few days I do find that my laptop is unable to associate itself with the router. I am using a Dlink AirPlus DWL-G630 wireless card, so it's pretty much as compatible as it could get with the router. When I do get this problem with connecting, no amount of disconnecting/reconnecting, uninstalling/reinstallating on my laptop will resolve it. But a quick power down and power up of the router gets me up and connected within a couple of seconds. And as of yet, I have not found any newer firmware which might fix this problem.

But for the most part, I'm satisfied with my purchase. I have not experienced any of the horrible problems that other people have experienced with wireless routers, which require contacting techsupport or returning the router.

I would recommend this product.

good luck
51 Good Router - Great Price!
With rebate, this router cost me $39.99. Unpacked it, plugged it in, followed the quick setup instructions and I was online in less than 30 minutes. Also bought a wireless-capable laptop. Quickly found my network and was online in a jiff. No dropped signal even on the other side of the house.

I'm not a paid hack for D-Link, just a do-it-yourself computer user. I bought a Linksys broadband router over three years ago for $149.99, it has worked great too but I needed wireless for laptop access. This router has worked wonderfully and I recommend it to anyone. I have the DI-624 version C (one antenna) it is the latest update to this model so maybe that is why it has worked great.

52 Stay away from this product
I bought the product from Fry's and forgot to check reviews before making the purchase. What a mistake! I can testify that even with the latest firmware, the constant router reboot (PPPoE disconnect) is a common problem. I was losing connection every 2 minutes and reconnected repeatedly that basically rendered my internet connection completely useless. Do not waste your time on this product. Release a product with this level of QA makes a lasting impression - stay away from D-Link.
53 This product is useless...
My first one kept dropping the connection and then reconnect on its own. I called tech support and they sent a replacement. Guess what! The replacement had the same problem. I did a search and turned out that tons of users have this problem. This product is a real hit-or-miss so stay away!!!
54 Good Router for Good Price
Bought this router about a week ago. Has been up and running without flaws. Happy with it and have no intention to return it.
I have been a D-Link user for about 3 years now and I have never experienced problems either with their fixed router or wireless router.
Really easy setup and hassle free installation.

55 Good router for a good price
I bought this router several months ago when Amazon.com offered it for around $40 (after rebate). I am very impressed by the price/performance of this router, and it has fully lived up to my expectations.

Setup was very simple... Just follow the installation guide and you should be up and running within 15 minutes. The network seemed fine even with WEP 128bit enabled. Range is good for a decent size house, but if you have a large home, you might want to consider getting a better antenna or a repeater to boost the wireless signal to far reaching corners of the house.

A lot of people seem to have problems with frequent disconnects or connection problems. I actually had a similar problem. A month and a half later, my router did not function properly. I was not able to connect to the router using wireless devices (specifically a D-Link wireless G PCMCIA card). To resolve the issue, I tried reseting the router, changing the SSID and channel, disabling WEP, and then reenabling WEP. All is fine now. So before bashing the product, try diagnosing the problem on your own or call tech support. Be proactive and try everything you can before saying that the product is lousy. Here are some helpful tips that might solve some of your problems.

1. Disable Super G/turbo modes on the router. This made the router more stable. You'll still be able to get 54Mbps, but will not be able to acheive 108Mbps (selected D-Link products).
2. If you have 2.4 GHz phones, you could be disconnected from the network prematurely. I suggest setting the channel to 11. It minimized the interference greatly.
3. A reviewer mentioned a helpful tip--after you connect to a wireless network, disable the "automatically let windows configure my wireless settings" option. It did help me when I was diagnosing the problem with my router (see above).
4. Only upgrade the firmware if you are having problems. If it works, don't fix it!

This router is definitely a step up from my first wireless router, which was a Linksys BEFW11S4. That router was such a nightmare, even the wired ports didn't work. D-Link has done a tremendous job with this router, and I definitely recommend it to those who want to purchase a "cheap" wireless G router.
56 Low price for faulty hardware = waste of money
(1) Drops connections - a lot.
(2) Many - hundreds of websites - report the same problem.
(3) D-Link hired lots of marketers to write good opinions of this device. Don't trust them.
(4) I know what I'm doing. I've set up my computer on literally a dozen different networks without a problem, and configured routers of various stripes for almost a decade. This isn't a newbie error - I was floored for many hours trying to get this thing to work.
(5) It still doesn't work reliably.
(6) This issue isn't a 'bad unit' issue - many other people sent in their D-Link routers, got a new one, and had exactly the same problem.

Bottom line: one of the worst purchases I have made -- and I know what I'm doing. AVOID AVOID AVOID!
57 Worst Tech Support Ever
I have been in the computer support business for 12 years and this is by far the most inferior product with the worst tech support I have ever experienced. I bought the product because it was the least expensive at the time. I got home and got it running fairly quickly. The first thing I noticed was that the signal strength was sub-par. I decided I could live with that, however. I then set up the port mapping I needed for my network. Soon afterward the router rebooted and disabled all my port forwarding settings. It didnt erase them, it just disabled them. It did this about twice a week for the life of the router. I woke up one morning and discovered that there was no signal strength at all from the router. I tried several laptops and sure enough, no signal - not even from a foot away. I called tech support and talked to a person who gave me a list of things to try and told me to call back if they didn't work and he would give me an RMA. I called back and was told that it didnt matter what the other guy said, I had to do all the steps with the tech on the phone or no RMA. I did that, and the guy told me, "Your going to have to go through the crash recovery. I can't do that over the phone. I'll send you an email and then call me back." The long and the short, Three tech support people and two floor managers later I got the case number for the RMA. I went to RMA.DLINK.COM and thier site is down. So make that 6 calls to tech support just to get an RMA on a clearly defective product. Good luck to you if you decide to buy this product.
58 Better Product for Optimum Price
This is very good. But a better price can be found at Ecost.com
59 Excellent piece of Hardware
This router is excellent, have it for 6 months. Bough it to replace one from other popular vendor. Noticed the change in speed immediately even on the cabled LAN ports, performance is incredible. Range is perfect, easy to setup security. I sure recommend it!!
60 Set Up was Easy, Performing Well So Far
This was my first foray into the wireless network realm. I bought this to replace my Netgear RP-114 router. I installed it over the weekend. I was not happy with the overall performance of the Netgear router (after 3 years it started having constant disruptions in service resulting in reboots and resets), which is why I decided to try D-Link. Set-up took so little effort. Basically 2 steps. I like the fact that I can turn the wireless radio off when I am not using it. Broadcast strength is fairly strong, I have no problems connecting anywhere around the house (through multiple floors and walls) or the yard. All in all, I am quite happy with my purchase so far.
61 Great device considering other reviews!
I received this yesterday and got it for a a great price (...). It was lower than other comparable products and offers the increased network speed.

Out of the box, I was able to plug it in and be up and running right away (of course without WLAN security or other customizations) despite operating previously with hard-coded internal IPs. Honestly, the hardest part was remembering how to reassign my network printer from a 192.168.1.x address to a 192.168.0.x address (ended up just using DHCP which I didn't use previously for security reasons).

My environment consists of two laptops (1 XP and 1 W2K) on wireless (the 128-bit WEP encryption was a snap to set up -- a first for me for my WLAN), a LAN-wired Brother network printer, a ReplayTV, a Win98 desktop and an XP desktop (this computer). So as a power-user, I needed a solid device and this one seems to be doing it so far (1 day in).

One important thing to take note: I modified all of the settings in the control administrator (awesome emulator to try out on d-link's website by the way) and even saved the settings to my hard drive so as not the lose them in the future in case of the need for a factory reset. However, when I got to the firmware section, I was out of date by 1 revision and when you update the firmware, you CANNOT reload saved settings. So, UPDATE THE FIRMWARE PRIOR TO CHANGING ANY SETTINGS OTHER THAN THE PASSWORD (because it will continue to prompt for the password every time you click until you change it).

Once past that, everything else was a breeze including some great extra features such as time-sync to a time server, UPNP support, DDNS updating (I can uninstall DirectUpdate now since this has built-in support for dyndns.org, easydns.com, and no-ip.com accounts if you host from your own computer).

All that's left is to configure the firewall and specify which ports I want to open to the outside (other than WLAN access, it comes already locked down out of the box which is great).

Performance has been great also, but so far I haven't run any tests or tried to compare the network traffic speed from what I had before (old router conked out anyway). There are at least no noticeable lockups, freezes, delays or other issues with the network traffic that others seem to have reported.

So, so far, this device has been a snap to set up (total time spent, maybe a few hours, but that would be much less for someone not needing to reconfigure a network printer or for someone that follows my above tip so as not to lose extra time). I didn't need any tech support so I can't comment on that, but for the price, performance and features I would highly recommend this for anyone looking to add or replace a router (at least for now since it's still a bit early to identify any long-term issues).

Just to add to the review...since posting the other day, I realized that I was using a weaker form of security in the form of WEP and so attempted WPA-PSK setup. I had some issues with it, specifically related to DHCP, despite it seeming to be straight-forward (even after upgrading all of my NIC card drivers) and had to call tech support. They replicated what I had already done before passing me over to Level 2. In Level 2, they told me to force an IP which worked, but this is a less-than-perfect solution for wireless if you travel with a laptop and roam from network to network. We even tried the Windows Alternate Configuration that exists in SP2 and that didn't work. A few hours later and still in the same situation.... I finally beat the computer by changing the starting IP address range to be 10 instead of 100. For whatever reason, the laptop was able to wirelessly pick up an IP in a lower range through DHCP using WPA-PSK once I made the change. Even though that was a hassle, I'm glad it's over with and still feel pretty good about this little thing.

62 Finally found out how to fix the reboot problem!!
I purchased this dlink router and the dlink airplus xtreme wireless adaptor in around July. It was working great for about a month but then the router starts to reboot every few minutes!! I tried everything and looked for help online but no help. I don't know how many times I uninstalled and reinstalled the program and everything, but didn't solve the problem. I called up the dlink support center but they seems like they don't even know how to solve this problem! Everytime I call them they would tell me to update my router to the latest firmware, but that never solved the reboot issue with the router.

Finally I found that there is a trick to solve this problem (or at least I never had the rebooting problem anymore..). First update your router to the latest firmware. Then whenever you want to connect to the internet, go to the "wireless network connection" configuration window, then go to "wireless network" tab. Click or check the "use windows to configure my wireless network settings". This would help you to detect and connect to the internet connection, just as what dlink recommended you to do in the manual. But the tricky part to this is that once you connected to the internet, go back to the same page and UNCHECK the "use Windows to configure my wireless network settings" as soon as possible. This would help you to stablize your connection without using windows to detect your internet connection since you are already connected to the internet.

I understand that this trick requires you to go to the wireless network connection setting page everytime you want to connect to the internet but this works like a charm to me. I never had any rebooting problems for months now and able to stay online for as long as I want :)

I hope this helps the people who are having the same problems because I was having the same reboot problem for months and I completely understand how painfull it is to get disconnect from the internet every few minutes!! I am not a computer expert at all so my assumption on how the wireless network setting works might be wrong, but this trick has been working perfectly for months now. Hope this would help you and Good luck!!

63 Buy another router-unstable connections
DI-624 router frequently disconnects itself from all computers, wired and wireless, attached to it. What's more, it will reboot and might take up to 5 minutes to establish a connection, which may happen in the middle of a download.
D-link suggests that you downgrade the speed to 10Mb which will reduce files transfer speed in your network by a tenfold. But the issue is not resolve. Upgrading to new firmware (2.50)won't resolve the issue either. Furthermore, replacing the network card for a new one won't resolve the issue.
If you want to spend many hours fussing, calling & e-mailing tech support and rebooting a router and reconfiguring it until you are red in the face....go for it...

64 Put your money in something really good, not this!
Bought this device even after some unfavorable reviews because of the big advertisement and it was expensive and thought that something bad would be really cheaper. Big mistake, the signal is so weak that I live in a 2 bedroom apartment (very small) and my systems report a low signal at 15 ft. Locks up a lot and have to reset very frequently, while the system is open (no security) it is fine but after some security configuration is a mess.

65 Works great and exc. tech support
Works great, fairly easy to install and set up. Tech support is execellent even in the middle of the night PDT. Just remember to turn on your antenna!

I would recommend renaming the SSID from "default" so you know you are connected via your router and not your neighbor who may also use "default" as a name. And to make sure that your router is the top one in your available wireless network connections.

I changed the IP from what the original default D-Link tech support. Be to write down what you set the router's IP address in case you need to change settings.

Works fine with AOL 9.0 optimized software. No conflicts. Using a Toshiba A-65 laptop.

Took me a bit of time to understand wireless and LAN settings in Win XP. So problems I had were IE settings and not the router.

Maybe instructions could be a bit clearer. It took me a while how to figure out how to rename the SSID.
66 BUY IT!!!

I've had the d-link for about 2 months. I was confused as to whether to buy it based on the conflicting reviews, but I decided to go ahead. THIS PRODUCT RULES. I had 2 PCs(wired) and 2 laptops (wireless) configured within 1.5 hours with the WEP encryption. The router works great. My advise is check out the software emulator on the dlink website - this lets you play with all the possible configuration settings and lets you see what you are getting into.
67 Working well so far
I bought this about a month ago and so far it has no problem. One thing I noticed is that it has much better range than the Netgear router (MR314) I had. it is very easy to set up, as some of you already pointed out. I don't have a wireless G adapter yet, so cannot comment on the speed gain.

Very pleased so far...
68 Horrible Router and Support
I purchased my router a few months ago and i have this rebooting problem and its to the point it happens every 30 secs to 5 min. i called tech support and they are absoulutly no help and just make it worse.
69 A MBA student
This is a good router. It shows as what it's advertise but I have some installation issue. It is hard to set up. If you check everything what it said in its manual such as ipconfig, ping, or connect cable firmly, you still can not use it. Try to shut down everything about 10 min and restart. It may be help. I used with Dell Insprion 1150 and DWL-G650. Therefore, it got 4 stars.
70 Blazingly fast, but horribly unreliable causing much stress.
Now if I wrote a review for this product the first month I had it, then I'd tell you this was the best wireless product I've owned to date. I like the filtering, I like the menus, and I like the ease of use. The help needs some work, but I'm knowledgable enough that I don't care.

Now comes the firmware updates. I started doing these because I'd notice maybe some quirks, or they said they fixed something major. Also I like to keep up to date on everything.

At the latest beta, normally I don't try beta's but I did to see if my problem that I'll mention shortly was fixed, they've really done a nice job on the wireless settings. Much better.

Ok so what did they break? Any hardwired form of connectivity. You can expect to loose your connection randomly on either the WAN port, or through any 1 of the 4 LAN ports. Very stressful if it worked for a few days then decides over the weekend that it'll need to be rebooted 10-15 times before you quit.

What makes this even more stressful is that you are still connected to the router wirelessly, and you can actively ping it at will. But if you, during it's personal strike, ping it from say a computer on the lan side, it doesn't respond. It goes completely dead. And the biggest problem is that rebooting it, or unplugging it doesn't necessarily work. Sometimes you have to do it many times in a row.

I've reported this to Dlink many times over the last few months... and... tired of the service, or lack of. If its something simple they are good about talking to you, but you get a tad bit technical, and they ignore you.

What do I buy now after investing in this technology? Netgear? I asked them a presale question and they told me to get the latest upgrade for the FIRMWARE of the device I was asking about!!!!!!! So I'm lacking a little faith right now.
71 Has stability issues
Reboots randomly. Firmware has stability issues. Also drops WAN (PPPoE) connections randomly.

72 its all good but the manual is wrong & incomplete

Fellas,
1. If you want to use encryption - do not use wizard option on the routers webpage. Manual just doesn;t talk about it much - call support if you cant figure it out.
2. dont use the Clone MAC Address option as asked by their manual - else everytime you reboot your machine you will have to reconfigure the router and clone it again. atleast thats what happened with my computer (WinXP connected to Roadrunner).

73 Worst Ever
Works for about 3.5 minute intervals then disconnects. This product is the worst ever. Don't waste your money. Replaced with a Linksys, now wireless network NEVER disconnects.
74 Great performce, price, and ease of use.
Took it out of the box, connected the power and CAT5's, and I was done. There is also the option to completely customize the setup which i did after trying the vanilla config.

Best buy for the money.
75 Dlink software support is horrible
Be aware that if you buy this product, the Dlink firmware has historically been released full of bugs that are not frequently corrected. I am looking at Linksys or other routers to replace this one because of firmware bugs when using WPA encryption.

Recently, Dlink released firmware 2.45 and then after many complaints, added a note to their site stating that it is a beta version. I would think that a company that had solid firmware would not have to go back and change a released version of firmware to beta.
76 Great little router
I bought this unit because my company was offering a (...)special pricing deal. I set it up and it all worked flawlessly. Then I updated the driver for my Fujitsu laptop and voila! I have a 108MB network at home! Great product!
77 Xtreme G not oso extreme.
Bought the router because of low price and because I have the D-Link DWL-G650 wireless card. Set the router to Static Trubo mode (suppose to provide highest speed with the use of other Xtreme G compatible cards) and it did not work with the card most of the time. Changed the settings to Dynamic Turbo and everything is great. Rate it as 3 stars only because it did not work in Static Mode when it is supposed to, otherwise it is a great router. The driver version I am using is 2.42. Version 2.45 is in beta state and should be available soon, maybe there will be a fix.
78 Have B? Get it. Have G? Wait
I moved from B to G, from Linksys to Microsoft, almost a year ago. I was very happy with the speed enhancements, but MS's offering was weak. The WAN link would drop several times per day...very annoying. So, I went to Iraq for six months, and decided (while I was there) that I wasn't going to put up with crap that didn't work. When I got back, I purchased an entire D-Link super G system.
Great stuff. In super G mode, my laptop and HTPC seem as if they're plugged directly into the DSL pipe. When non-super G folks come over, the speed decrease is noticable, but still very acceptable.
Bottom line - If you're happy with what you've got, and it's working, keep it. If you're a B user looking to upgrade, give the super G a try; you won't be disappointed. If you're a G user already, don't bother, wait for the next great bandwidth leap.
79 Solid Router with Good Reliability
I bought this a while back and have found it to be a good cornerstone of my network. I always update it to the newest firmware for the free added features and bug fixes. I find this router easy to use, easy to manage, and was easy to install.

I get good wireless coverage within my home and my USB 802.11g adapter (DWL-G122) for my laptop. I can pretty much be anywhere in my home and still get a solid connection that wont drop. I even play online games via wireless and have low pings while in a room away from the router.

Overall a good router with wireless functions to boot. Very nicely priced and more than enough features.
80 Poor hardwired network performance
Bought this router because of some good reviews that I had seen for the wireless features (108)....But I also wanted to use it to connect some wired PCs to our broadband connection. After using it for a short while, the router seemed to lose the hardwired connections as if the router had rebooted..this increased in frequency to the point it became unbearable...D-link suggested flashing old firmware (but the link to the old firware is dead and the latest beta firware does not fix this problem).... Do a search on Google for "DI-624 reboot" and you will see that I am not alone with this problem. Going to return and purchase another brand.
81 Nowhere near my expectations
I bought this thing about six months ago, and while it worked out of the box, I started having trouble with it within a week. I put the router in my basement, and had one computer wired to it. I also have a laptop that I use with it occasionally when I am outside on my deck, etc. Right about the time I started having trouble, someone else set up a wireless connection in my neighborhood on a Belkin router. I now know who it was, and from this computer to the edge of their house there is at least 250 feet of open backyard. From their router, I got at least a 20% signal for several months, and I just hooked onto theirs eventually because my DI-624 was so unreliable and gave such a poor signal from my basement (2 floors below me). I returned from Germany to find that the signal I was getting from the belkin router was no longer as reliable as it had once been, so I went out and bought a DLink signal booster. Again, the product worked perfectly initially, but after two days I started having constant trouble with it. My computer would always stay connected to the booster, but the booster must've been losing its connection to the router. So today, I figure, what the hell, I better give the booster a shot as my access point. So I hook it up, and I am now getting a 20% signal, much better than the "no signal" or "3% connection quality" I was getting from my DI-624 once in a blue moon. So now, I have just disabled the DI-624's wireless capacity and am now using the $70 signal booster as an access point. Looking into the logs of the products, I learned that it is the router that is frequently dropping and screwing everything up.

My recommendation for anyone looking into this product is to look elsewhere. DLink's tech support is located in India and the people are incredibly hard to understand and the advice they give is pretty worthless.

The DLink DWL-G800AP Range Extender has worked very well for me, but I must warn you that DLink's basic US tech support office is located in India and will ultimately not help you to solve anything.

The only way I will ever buy another DLink product is if the product absolutely has to be a DLink or the router/extender will not communicate with it.
82 Easy setup. Excellent range.
After reading numerous reviews and looking up range data on cnet, I decided to purchase the DI-624. Setup was easy and it quickly detected all my network settings. This model supports the improve WPA security. I live in a large 2 story house and have excellent signal strength in all areas of my house. I recommend this product to all. The only improvement I could see would be adding a print server tot he unit.
83 Works OK but that is only SOMETIMES
Sometimes it works, sometimes it does. It works OK when it works. I went thru 2 of these and each timee my connection would either drop or my speeds would be really slow. I have no clue what the problem is. I work in IT so I tried all the troubleshooting knowledge I know before I contacted tech support = nothing. Upgraded firmware to no avail....decided to return it all and bought a Linksys: brought it home, and to my surprise, it WORKED FLAWLESSLY

84 Don't blame D-Link for Windows!
Like many of the negative reviewers here, I too initially experienced frequent dropped connections from my Windows XP Tablet PC. Although the connection was quickly and automatically reestablished, this made it impossible to do large file transfers, etc. This was using the factory installed 2.42 firmware.

I became suspicious that D-Link was not to blame when I noticed that my two ReplayTVs were merrily making their nightly downloads via their attached Netgear WGE101 wireless bridges, and were able to stream high quality video from one to the other, and also that my children's vintage iMacs were never losing connections via their attached Linksys WET11 wireless bridges.

On my Tablet PC I therefore tried disabling the default XP setting of "Use Windows to configure my wireless network settings" and instead switched to using the software from the the supplier of my wireless card, in my case Intel's PROset software. I have not had a single dropped connection since!
85 Good Fast and Reliable with Wireless OR Wired
I use this router as the basis/backbone of my network, and I transfer a lot of large pictures back and forth from my Laptop and Desktop, and Backup network Drive.

This router has always been operating at optimum speed and I notice no down time in my Internet connection because of it.

This router was also very easy to setup, as others have said here before me. I thought I'd just make this clear so that there is an updated review with the latest info. Yes it is fast, Yes it is reliable, and Yes D-Link provides upgrades all the time, for free even!
86 Not impressed
Seems like a good enough product - if would work. I set it up as a simple (wired) router, and got it to work. Problem is, about 80% of the time, after it's been on for awhile, I'll lose internet connection through it. Remove the router from the picture, and my internet connection is solid. Put the router back in, and it will be solid; for awhile. Then it loses connection again and may or may not resume proper operation some time later. Perplexed.
87 Good Experience
Recently I bougt D-Link DI-624 802.11g AirPlus Xtreme G 108 Mbps Wireless Router. Very easy to install and configure the wireless network. Definitely recommend this to others.
88 Fine if you're just using it to share an internet connection
The router can be configured for what Dlink calls "virtual server". But I have yet to be able to get this feature to work. Calls to support is worthless. As far as routing and wireless, I've had no issues with that. But don't purchase this if you plan on running a web server behind this box.
89 Superb Product
After reading a lot of different reviews and examining other wireless products, decided to purchase the DI-624. Now that I have installed it and used it - wow - this is a great product. I recommend this wireless router to anyone. It took me all of 5 minutes to install and use it. Not to mention the numerous advanced features that even a rookie wireless person such as myself can use.
90 Works Great - Less Filling - YMMV
While reading the other reviews, I have to say that it seems that either there is a bad batch of routers, non-updated firmware or something in their environment that is causing problems.

The router is on 24/7 and only experienced a couple of wireless disconnects during the past 90+ days.

The router is working fine at 54kbps with a HP notebook (built in 802.11g) and a MS Xbox 802.11g adapter.

The range varies depending on what is between the router and the wireless device. If the microwave is on, in a direct route between the two devices, it does not get a good signal. If the wireless phone base or handset is within a foot or so, it does have interference (if it is beyond that, it seems to work fine.)

Xbox Live works fine via either the wireless mode or wired mode.

The unit is fairly configurable and easy to setup and use.

I have 2 wireless items (Notebook, Xbox) always connected to it and 4 wired items (2 PCs, 2 VoIP boxes) without problems.

DLink Support seems to be a bit lacking, but that was to ask a question about another product and not about this one.

The only "gripe" I have is that I wished it had a print server built-in like the previous SMC wired router that this replaced.

This review is based upon the "C" revision (1 antenna) version of the router built with 2.38 firmware and upgraded to 2.42 firmware.

There is a beta 2.45 firmware also available at the time of this review. I have not installed the beta firmware.

91 Makes a good door stop... O, wait... Can't even do that right?
First I have to say that this is by far one of the worst products I have ever dealt with (and I am an IT guy). I have worked with various vendors ranging from 3com to Cisco (including Linksys) and DLink missed every opportunity to create a return customer. I guess the best place to start is with technical support...

Tech support is quick to give up on trying to fix a problem... First I was talk about another device I bought (810 wireless bridge) which I wanted to use to connect my Xbox to my old Linksys 802.11b router/AP. After a few tries I couldn't get the two devices to connect and I contacted tech support... They were quick to discredit my idea to getting the two devices to communicate and told me to return the item. I knew these devices could communicate because they could see each other and all I needed to do was some additional configuration (which I figured out on my own). This also continued with my purchase of my 624. I would call them and they would have no idea about how to fix the problem and have me send it back (I had to pay the $10 in shipping). I only sent back the product once because the new device always had the same symptoms (I will talk about them next).

The product!

The product quickly worked out of the box, but seemed to reboot (all connections) every few hours. I was busy at the time so I just dealt with the discomfort because the G was soooo much faster! (I never did get the extreme to work...) Well 6 months later it was rebooting every few minutes and I would have to either disable/enable the wireless connection or reboot the client machine. I then tried to install the latest firmware (making sure I backed up the config file), well the router lost all configurations (and I have a lot of them) which I thought was no big deal because I had that file... Well the file did not work! Then after everything was back up the router continued to reboot every few minutes so I contacted DLink. They quickly gave me an RMA and shipped out a new unit (which had a crack in the plastic when I received it and there were no physical marks on the shipping box???). This new device continued to reboot so I installed the latest beta firmware from the site which made the problem even worse. Contacted DLink to see what the problem was and they gave me static for putting on the new firmware (which they didn't know existed) and had me bring the router back to the older firmware. My question is why put the firmware up if you don't want users to test it out to see if it fixes the problems. Anyways DLink had me return it again and then I requested my money back because I had already blown hours and hours of my time with this product and it really doesn't seem to perform... AT ALL! My request was denied (big surprise right?) and I went out and bought a Linksys router which rocks! So to upgrade from b to g I ended up spending twice the amount of money because I had to buy two routers and pay for the shipping to return the original broken router. So my advice to you is to buy only Linksys, or Netgear (which my friends seem to like). There is no reason why a company like DLink should continue to exist!

BTW this device would reboot regardless of the network load, or if there was any interference from other wireless devices running at 2.4Hhz (like phones).

92 thank God something works
Installation a breeze; two laptops and one desktop immediately recognized simple cable switch from linksys. Much better range and speed than WRT-54G (anyone interested in used router?). This review from someone frazzled after spending the prior 12 hours performing "quickrestore" (uh huh) on personal laptop, which blew out after windows sp2 recommended update (beware of "improved windows",another story)
93 Easy to Use, Great Performance
I bought DI-624 router and G-520 PCI last week to replace my existing wired router. The install/configuration is a no-brainer. Last evening, it took me 5 minutes to hook/unhook the routers, maybe 20 minutes to physically install the PCI, and 5 minutes to setup.

Now I have two pcs wired to DI-624 in the first floor, and one wirelessly connected to the DI-624 in the second floor.

The performance is awesome. I tested the Internet speed from all of my pcs, they were all 3.3 mps. File transfers from on pc to another is past, as a matter of fact, you cannot tell that you have a wireless connection.

I like these products.
94 Waste of time and money
I bought this router for its wireless capability and to replace my old router. This router is a real bag of troubles. It would randomly disconnect the wireless connection from my laptop, and sometimes, it would drop the entire network when the wireless connection attempts to connect. I had to go into the router admin menu and turn off the wireless feature(router reboots), then turn it back on(router reboots again); why? I don't know, It just works after that(Note: Just rebooting the router does not help.). After weeks of trials and error, I ended up buying a Linksys and kept this one as a spare. The router works great WITHOUT the wireless feature, but that was not the original purpose of my purchase. Buy it if you want a challenge of troubleshooting, but avoid it if you want a reliable router.
95 Works perfectly
Compatibility issues are always present and, depending on hardware you already have, there is a chance that any given router will not work for you. That said, I had a chance to test my DI-624 on four networks (both LAN/Ethernet and Wireless B/G) and it worked perfectly. Cable modems I've used were Motorola, Cisco and Netgear.

I know D-Link's tech support is somewhat sketchy in the US, but I don't think this is a product you'd need support on. It self-explanatory, really. You can access it's configuration interface from any PC that's connected to one of it's four LAN ports via Internet browser on 192.168.0.1. However, there's only wireless SSID and optional password to set, everything else in plug and play. Unless you want to customize firewall, DHCP and things like that. Actually, there's a demo of this interface on manufacturer's site so you can check it out yourselves.

Using DI-624 in a home network with 3 "wired" PCs and 2 wireless notebooks has been a trouble free experience. Suddenly, all 5 PCs were connected to the Internet and were in LAN. It's range is superb - I can connect to it from the parking, which is some 300ft from my builing, and router is on the 5th floor, behind a reinforced concrete wall. Of course, inside the apartment itself, reception is always perfect. I just had to set password, though, so I wouldn't provide free wireless Internet to entire building.
96 Very Capable Router with Great Wireless Range
The wireless range is what caught my eye the first day I set it up. The setup was easy, no problems there, the configuration was rather painless, thanks to the setup wizard. Then after all that I wondered around the house with my laptop seeing how far I can actually be from the router and still be connected to the Internet. Everywhere in my 5 bedroom home was covered with wireless signal that allowed me to be connected to the network/Internet.

The price is good for everything this router provides and so far it all seems very stable with zero reboots as others have claimed. I can stream MP3s to my laptop from my desktop wirelessly and I hear no skips in the songs. Very nice.
97 This seems to be a hit!
I was drawn in by the rebate and Amazon's generally good rep. I bought this for a customer and tested it at home first. Some of the reviews I have seen made me wary.

Everything went smoothly with the exception of setting up WPA security. It may just require some tweaking. The native WEP works just fine. Since this will be used with a very low security project, that won't be a problem.

Signal strength and coverage was great even with the built-in wireless (802.11b) on my laptop. It also gave me 36MB although 11b is only rated for 11MB. It had no problems with servicing a standard wired PC at the same time. I didn't have the constant reboot problem that others have had, however it did ship with the latest firmware preinstalled.

I am considering getting another one for the house.
98 piece of crap
d-link needs to get its act together. this router of airplus is a laugh. never seen so much problems from one equipment. lost connection, rebooting itself every half hour, losing signal, rebooting computer to get back signal. returned twice over a span of 3 weeks. fianlly returned back for good for another brand. a linksys speedbooster. now that works great!!
tech support wasn't helpful either..spent more time on phone with tech than anybody else. still didn't get the problem solved. each one kept telling me to return the router back and get another one after there book runs out of troublehsooting ideas. tired of that...:( the tech needs help with updatng there knowledge of the equipment and manners. d-link needs to rebuild there router again.
its not worth it......buy a linkys speedbooster or netgear instead.
99 Easily Installed and Works Reliably
I was able to isntall this within a couple minutes. Very easy with my Cable Internet connection. I also appreciate the wireless range this router/access point is capable of. Anywhere in my 2 story 2 bedroom townhome is Internet ready so to speak. My laptop is always online as long as I have my D-Link wireless card (DWL-G650) plugged in and my laptop powered up. Speeds are comperable to being wired. I can download files just as fast as my wired PC. I did a test withe the same file on some server, I downloaded it on my desktop PC (Dell) wired into router and directly after with my laptop wirelessly connected and the laptop was only 1 second slower in the time it took to download. That doesn't sound like a sacrifice to me. Plus with the 128-bit WEP, or even the WPA-PSK (passphrase) enabled I feel comepletely secure and I don't see a drop in speed when the security is enabled.

I like this router, it works great for me, and I've recommended it to others because of it's real world performance.
100 Great buy!
I just this router the other day thru Amazon.com. It was a deal after the rebate compared to shopping in a brick & mortar store.

I had a tough time setting up the router. I was using the D-link 704 router and had to call D-link tech support to help me configure in this router. Once I got it up and running, I was zooming on the internet at blazing speeds. The router is connected to a desktop PC downstairs, but I still get excellent signal strength anywhere in the house on my new laptop. I'm very happy with it and it's a plus that this site sold it for less.
