D-Link, the worldwide leader in innovative home and business networking, sets another new standard for broadband router performance with the D-Link Express EtherNetwork™ DI-707P.

The DI-707P is an Ethernet Broadband Router with a built-in 7-port switch. It also features a parallel port to share a printer on a small office workgroup or network and includes a print server application for Windows**.

As many as seven computers can be connected to the router's integrated switch, using its seven 10/100Mbps AutoMDIX Ethernet ports. The DI-707P package even includes an Ethernet cable to get you started.

The DI-707P is ideal if you're creating a small business network, or if you're a more advanced user looking for additional management settings.

The DI-707P includes an easy-to-use web-based graphical user interface (GUI) to configure the router. To keep prevent unwanted Internet intruders from accessing your network, the DI-707P also serves as a feature-rich firewall.

So, whether you're a college student who wants to network with friends and roommates or a small business owner who wants to have more control over how your employees access the Internet, then the D-Link Express EtherNetwork DI-707P is the networking solution for you, even if you don't know much about networking.

**Printer Server software included is for Windows Operating Systems only. Postscript Level 1 and 2 printers can be connected to the DI-707P for Macintosh OS 9.x or X computers. The DI-707P does not support non-Postscript printers with Macintosh OS.

1 Not the right device for Multifunction printers
Not much surprise here, it doesn't support any multifunction options, but it does what it's supposed to otherwise do.

I have returned this for a USB Server by Keyspan.

It allows ANY USB device to be shared on a network (as if it were plugged direclty into any PC).

See my Amazon review.

It is the ONLY answer to multifunction sharing.

2 No Firewall Administration Options as showed in DLink Page
I recently purchase this item, I found that there is no Firewall Administration Options in the menu as showed in the DLink Product Page Manual (Everything else is good). I'm talking with the Dlink support and have no solution. DLink support team says "There are no firewall options on this router. To open ports on these routers you will use vserver and applications. Thank you for networking with D-Link. "
3 Firewall support is not like like D-Link Advertises
All the features work well and are a breeze to setup, except one. This router does all the things you would expect it to in a very stable manner, except one. If you check the D-Link Web site for the manual of this exact router model. You will find some rather nice firewall features (My whole reason for getting this router actually). When you set up the router, you will find that there is no firewall button. It absolutely does not exist. The manual has an actual screen shot of the setup screen with a firewall button in plain view and it details how to use the firewall, but the product came with no such option. I am very disappointed, and feel very mislead.
4 Great! but...... server is rs232 only (not USB) : (
ooops, my printer(s) are USB only - now what do i do? otherwise, the device works just dandy (replaced my lame Linkys 4-port without hassle)
5 Works great, good support
My new 707P, in operation over a month, seamlessly replaced separate a SonicWALL SOHO firewall and 8-port 10/100 switch for less than the cost of Sonic's annual support, plus adding network print server capability for my HP LaserJet 5MP. I didn't need all of Sonic's extra-cost features (VPN, virus, content filtering, etc.). Setup, including configuration, options, and automatic time service, were a snap, and served-printer installation on both Windows and MacOS is well explained. D-Link answered a support call on the first ring, and a human technician was very helpful in answering my questions right the first time.

Quote of the Day:

For every complex problem, there is a solution that is simple, neat, and wrong.

-- H. L. Mencken

While the engineer developed his thesis, the director leaned over to
his assistant and whispered, "Did you ever hear of why the sea is salt?"
"Why the sea is salt?" whispered back the assistant. "What do you
mean?"
The director continued: "When I was a little kid, I heard the story of
`Why the sea is salt' many times, but I never thought it important until just
a moment ago. It's something like this: Formerly the sea was fresh water and
salt was rare and expensive. A miller received from a wizard a wonderful
machine that just ground salt out of itself all day long. At first the miller
thought himself the most fortunate man in the world, but soon all the villages
had salt to last them for centuries and still the machine kept on grinding
more salt. The miller had to move out of his house, he had to move off his
acres. At last he determined that he would sink the machine in the sea and
be rid of it. But the mill ground so fast that boat and miller and machine
were sunk together, and down below, the mill still went on grinding and that's
why the sea is salt."
"I don't get you," said the assistant.
