D-Link DSB-H4 USB 4-Port Hub

Compras Nikon
Bluetooth
The D-Link DSB-H4 is a 4-port Universal Serial Bus USB hub that allows a user to connect up to four USB peripherals or devices to their PC or Mac.
The DSB-H4 is designed to provide quick and easy access to the four Type A downstream ports for connecting peripherals with USB support, other USB hubs, and devices. A single Type B upstream port is provided for connecting to the host computer or another USB hub. Configured directly by the operating system, the DSB-H4 operates seamlessly with both Microsoft's Open HCI and Intel's Universal HCI.
1 works poorly with iMac
The hub worked for a couple weeks I think, but have had numerous problems, enough to render it useless to me. It won't recognize my keyboard anymore (note: it used to)so I have to plug it directly. I also get that caps lock thing going on. It never recognized the DLink Wireless adapter, same manufacturer! Go figure! I have to plug it directly in the desktop. The HP Photosmart printer still works, though. Is this just a Dlink hub issue or DLink products in general because I have the wireless adapter and a wireless router.
2 Not all USB products are compatible with this hub
While this hub installed easily and works without much interaction, I've found that there are many USB products that will only work when plugged directly into the computer (and fail completely when plugged into this hub). Some examples are the Microsft wireless optical mouse (which is the whole reason I bought this hub), my HP writable DVD drive and an M-Audio audio interface.

I'm not sure if this is the fault of D-Link or the other manufacturers, but there are enough products that will not work with it that I wonder about the compatibility of this hub.

3 Works great!
I have had this for awhile and have not had any problems. I have a camera and some other things plugged into it. It is nice not having to worry about running out of USB connections.
4 Problems with Windows 2000
Same problems as others. The machine hangs up while rebooting. I have to unplug it to reboot the machine and then plug it in. It doesn't even work with my Webcam (Intel PC Camera Pro). Guess I made a Bad choice when I bought it. Stay away from it!!
5 Doesn't work on my computer: Gateway G6-350
As mentioned in other reviews, this hub caused my computer to hang on start up. To start up the computer using this hub, I would have to remove the hub from the USB port, start up the computer, then plug the hub and its power supply back into the computer. It also seemed to temporarily disable the adjacent USB port at times.
6 It [is not good]!
This is the worst USB Hub i've ever had the displeasure of working with. Several times a day it loses power and all devices connected to it stop working for upto 1 minute until it starts working again. I can't afford for this to happen as often as it is. I've never had a hub do this before nor have I heard of any hub having this problem. I would recommend LINKSYS and nothing else! Remember the saying...."You get what you pay for"!
7 If I could i would give it negative 5 stars
I cannot beleive they are still selling this [bad] unit. I used it for only 10 minutes. I tried plugging in with a Web cam, CD burner, and Printer. The unit kept shutting down. I had its external power plugged in however it refused to work.... I would not recommend this product to any one. I would recommend not purchasing it.
8 Main Cable or Hub shorts out Power Supply
The Hub worked for about an hour then caused my power supply to shutdown. Power supplys have good overload protection so my system came up after about five minute cool down time. Now I have to see if I can get this fixed through the warranty. Which is to much work for a 25 dollar part.
9 Causes boot problems
I bought this so I could keep multiple USB peripherals attached to my Win98 PC. When I plugged it into the (already running) system it worked as expected, but when I rebooted the system it hung until I disconnected the hub. It could be Win98SE drivers, or it could be this hub isn't very good.
10 Not compatible with XP in self-powered mode
Dlink really messed up with this one. I've long been
a fan of Dlink's network adapters and hubs, but after
purchasing one of these hubs, I've almost lost any
respect I've had for the company. When I first
plugged in this hub, everything seemed to work just
as it was supposed to, but then my USB devices
started dissapearing and XP began alerting me that
it had found new hardware... the USB devices that
had disspeared. This hub intermittently, and randomly
has communications problems with the attached devices
anywhere from 10 minutes to an hour after I start
Windows, I begin hearing that wonderful USB insert
notification. After some research I discovered that
this hub has these issues when running under Windows
XP with the power supply. So, I played musical chairs
with my devices, and managed to get the hub to work,
in bus-powered mode. Of course this means that with
Windows XP you're out of luck if you want to plug
any high-powered USB devices into this hub. This hub
is not worth the money. If you are an XP user, do
yourself a favor and steer clear of Dlink.
11 WARNING!
All I can do is offer a warning about this product, When I bought this product it some how cut off the connection to my keyboard.
12 Good Product
Received the product one morning, Hooked it up without powering down my computer, windows 98SE detected it immediatley. The hub is fast and is of good quality. Highly reccomended.
13 Simple and Fast
I use Windows ME and I just plugged it in, plugged in my scanner and digital camera, turned on my computer and ME found it and instantly set it up! I agree that most USB hubs tend to be a bit pricier, but the D-Link hub works great and it can't get any easier to set it up. It's nice and compact and if I need more plugs, it would be easy enough to daisy chain another one. This one is definitely a good product .
14 Piece of junk
A total piece of junk. Worked for about 6 weeks, then died. Now I have to go through the time and expense of sending the thing back, getting a replacement, and hoping that the new one works better. I'm not holding my breath. Buy something else!!!!
15 Dont' Buy This - Died after a week
I Purchased the D-Link USB hub to hook up printer, cameras, etc. It came up fine and worked for about a week. Then I started getting "not connected" messages from my printer and scanner. After checking the hub I noticed that the green connection lights were out and only the power light was on. Apparently, either the power supply or board was defective. Based on the large number of similar reviews here, I would not recommend purchasing it. It's junk.
16 Trouble free and brainless to use
Simple to hook up and use. Includes an external power supply that the instructions say is optional, but that should be used. The USB subsystem provides power to many of the accessories that attach to it (card readers, etc.) If you don't use the power supply, attaching more than two devices will overtax the USB system and stop all devices from working. So use the power supply immediately and you're all set. Great value, led's show port status.
17 So Far So Good
I have had this hub for about a year now and have yet to have a problem with it ! My tower came with 2 USB slots located at the back of the tower. Now I can plug and unplug devices quickly ! I would have given it 5 stars except for a rather trivial complaint ,that they should give you the option of differant case colors !
18 not compatible with Windows XP
I bought it for a month, and it worked fine until i installed Windows XP, and could not get it working. And btw there is no driver for it. So basically i am stuck with a piece of hardware that doesn't work under new system. So beware, if you want to upgrade to XP.
19 Fried immediately after arrival
Poor quality control. The unit worked for a minute or two, then a smell of overheated electronics ... dead.
20 Piece of crap
The device stopped working after I had it for 2 months. This product is not worht the trouble...I bought the LinkSys to replace it and am very pleased.
21 What a piece of garbage
I bought this unit straight from the d-link website. Took it out of the package, hooked it up like it said. The lights came on. The next day I boot up the computer so I could try one of my new usb devices, BAM!!! No power to the hub. I keep plugging it in, sometimes on a different outlet. Sometimes it works for a minute, sometimes it doesn't. I'm getting my money back and will never buy a d-link hub again. This thing is more flakey than Raisin Bran.
22 Start up and shut down problems
With some motherboards, including the one on my Dell desktop, Windows 98 will hang during both shutdown and startup. You can see a full description of the problem on the FAQ for this product on D-Link's web site. For those like me; You can not start Windows 98 or properly shut down Windows 98 with this device attached. Every time you need shut down or start Windows, you need to disconnect this device and the power supply and reconnect it after windows has been started.... My HP scanner and Olympus camera work properly when connected through the hub, however my HP printer doesn't.
23 Locked up my computer keyboard
When I hooked up it locked up my keyboard, specifically the Num Lock, Cap Lock and Scroll Lock lights all came on, and the keyboard would not respond. Tried several times and everytime the results were the same. I have a Dell computer with Win 98. If this will work with your computer you can't beat the price, espically after the rebate. ....
24 Locked up my computer keyboard

Tried several times and everytime the results were the same. I have a Dell computer with Win 98. If this will work with your computer you can't beat the price, espically after the rebate...
25 Cheap piece of junk
I could not get this thing to work. Tried it on Windows XP, 2000, and 98SE. Windows simply will not recognize this device. I work in a Tech Support center and have fairly in-depth technical skills. I've also had other technically adept people look at it, with same results. I'll try Belkin or Linksys now but I'd steer clear of this item.
26 Quick and painless.
This is an excellent product. Installation was super easy. Performance is flawless. It's pretty nice not having to pull my computer out of it's corner and try to find usb ports in the dark. Even if you don't need extra ports it's nice to have them all out front.
27 risky purchase
Great price. However this unit burned up as soon as it was plugged in to the wall. Isolated incident or disturbing trend?
28 Garbage
I bought this hub based on reviews posted here, and my experience with DLink network hubs, (which work well). However this USB hub did not work. The computer would see it, and install the required drivers (I'm running XP), but after a period of time, from 10 minutes to 3 hours, it would disconnect and become unusable. I was using the power adapter that came with the hub. I contacted DLink, and they told me that it was normal for the lights to go out on the hub if the computer was running XP, that it was a power saving feature of the OS. The lights would indeed go out, but when they did, the hub quit working also. After a week of this I returned it and bought a Linksys USB hub, which works flawlessly.
29 Works great, cheap!
Anyone who uses their home computer a lot knows that you can never have enough usb ports. I quickly realized after getting my new computer that I would need a usb hub, and the D-Link DSB-H4 hub is perfect. It was [price] from Amazon, free shipping (at the time) and you get a [price] rebate. I can't think of a better computer peripheral buy for under [price]. Functionally, the hub is simple; you just plug it into the computer and the power outlet and away you go. I hooked my scanner up to the hub and then tried it directly into the computer and didn't notice any change in speed. Not much more to say; you can spend more for a hub, but why?
30 SIMPLY DOESN'T WORK!
This is my second D-Link USB Hub and NEITHER of them worked. Both worked for about a day and after that the computer simply wouldn't recognize them. And good luck dealing with the company--difficult to contact, won't return your calls. Very frustrating. Needless to say, after this experience I will never buy D-Link again.
31 BEWARE! Same power problem as others & BAD customer support
Worked for about a week and then it simply went dead. Tried to get an RMA from D-Link to replace it, but D-Link was so incompetent and bad to deal with that I eventually just gave up. Definitely go with another company!
32 D-Link doesn't link
Being a novice, this out of the box product's directions are extremely vague. I suggest the booklet was written in a non-english speaking country. Just vague and uninformative. This product actually was plug n play, My personal expierence however, was that it plugged in and played for about 1 hour. When I powered up my computer the next day, it had discontined working. Trying to contact this company thru their website was another trick. When I did get to the tech site and asked for help or suggestions, a week had passed without any contact. I've decided to forgo this particular product and try another...too bad.But for the price, I guess you get what you pay for...
33 D IS FOR DOOKY
Owned 2 in a span of a week.
I put both the printer and scanner on this
hub, used the external power on both,
and it still whacked out on me.
1st) One of the ports burned out
2nd) It was no longer getting power from
either source.
By the way, this thing was made in China.
I'm going to try Belkin.
34 D STANDS FOR DOOKY
I've owned 2 of these bad boys and returned them both within a week because
1) a port burned on the first one and
2) main bus burned on the second one.

I'm going to try a belkin.

35 Self Power
My computer has 2 usb ports, but I needed 4, so I bought the unit. My computer was on when I first plugged it to my usb port. Then I plugged it into the wall, so it would become self powered, and it worked fine for that session. But when I pressed shut down and then tried to turn it on again... The power button was useless, it didn't work. I had to run the unit on non-self powered mode for my computer to run correctly.

I don't know if this is my computer's fault, or just the unit.
But otherwise it works as advertised.

Thanks D-Link

36 2 of 4 ports broken, plus not for Visor users
Unfortunately, this hub was defective. Problems encountered when I hooked it up to my iMac:

--I connected a printer, scanner, and Visor. The 1st two worked but the Visor didn't (no matter which port used). The Visor works fine when I hook it up directly to a USB port on my computer.
--The hub feels shoddy. When you plug things in, you're afraid you'll break it.
--Two of the green lights blinked on and off. Does this indicate that these ports are working/ not working?
--I then tested all 4 ports on the hub with my USB mouse, and realized that 2 of the 4 ports didn't work.

Decided to return it and try a different brand.

37 Works well!
I needed an inexpensive USB Hub, and orderd this one. A few days later it was 14.95 in the local Best Buy flyer, after a 10.00 rebate. I only wish it came with rubber feet, so it would not slide all over the place. I taped it down :)
I'm still happy with it, and would recommend it.
38 Bummer.
I'm revising my rating downward after failing to get my printer to operate consistently with this hub despite its bulky and heavy-duty power supply. When I switched to a lighter Asante 4-port hub, I no longer had any problems. Maybe the problem was in my USB cable, because the D-Link seems to be a solid, well-designed piece of equipment. The price is right, so you could do worse than give it a try for yourself.

The D-Link hub initially worked fine with my iMac for lighter tasks. But as Harry Carey would say whenever a fly ball fell short of the bleachers, one more biscuit for breakfast might have insured a home run. Lately I'm finding that heavy-duty print jobs involving photos are requiring me to unplug the printer from the hub and directly into the USB port of the computer. Occasionally, the unit causes everything to freeze when attached to its power supply, then resumes functionality when I unplug its electrical source (the instructions claim the unit is 5 times more powerful when run by electricity). Fortunately, at these prices you can afford to just toss it and try something else.

39 Very unstable....Will not last
This item worked excellent!!!! ...For ONE day.
Came in the next morning and I had no power to the hub and nothing would work no matter what i tried. ... It is a piece of junk.
40 nice little addition
What could be simpler, plug it in & it works, period. No problems with my gamepad & printer.
41 returned 2
The first one I received wouldn't power up from the AC power source at all. I returned it and replacement seemed to work OK for a day or so, and then the PC could not seem to identify it correctly. Apparently these hubs are not made very well.

Although it looks cool in the picture, once you hold it in your hands you'll see that it just feels cheap. I'd go with a different manufacturer if you're in the market for a USB hub.

42 Too much stuff not enough holes
Being an illustrator who works on a iMac I only have two usb ports. Because of this (the illustrating art reason thingy) I need alot more than two ports for my zip drive, digital camera, graphics tablet, scanner, printer and, a game controller (for my leisure time) not to mention a mouse and keyboard.
The D-Link 4 port usb hub is an affordable and effective solution for those like me that have too much stuff and not enough holes to plug them into.
43 Worked for 12 months, but now completely dead
For the first 12 months, the product worked as advertised. However, after time one of the four ports became unusuable. I moved that cable to a different port, so I could keep using the hub.

Recently however, the unit has become completely dead. No power lights, no indication that anything is happening. Self-powered lights are also off.

I'm planning to buy a new one, but from a different brand.

44 Seems great - but flawed
While the product seems quite convenient in principle, it draws too much current from the computer. As a result, I am unable to turn on the computer while the hub is plugged into it. At the end of the day, the hub is completely useless.
45 Works like it says
The D-Link DSB-H4 USB 4-Port Hub by D-Link is a well priced hub that works like it says it does. I have my digital camera, optical mouse, and CD burner all plugged in to it, and still have room for an MP3 player should I desire it. This is an excellent product for anyone who has more than two USB devices and not enough USB slots on the computer. If you're reading this it is because you probably are thinking about buying it, and certainly the price is right. I am 100% pleased with mine. :)
46 Nice Function, Poor Durability
This product does it's job in a very unobtrusive manner. It was able to be plugged in and used without any drama. However, about 2 weeks after I got it, one of the downstream ports started drawing too much durrent and has since been disabled by the computer.
47 Works Just as Advertised
Plug it in and plug in your USB accessories and it works like a charm. No more fumbling in the back of your PC box to pull out the USB connector of an accessory you are not using to plug in one you want to use. The connections are in the front of the Dlink box. Good price compared to Linksys, Belkin and other competitive models. I am quite happy I bought this hub.
48 Not so great for iMac
I've had some trouble with this hub on my iMac. Sometimes the iMac doesn't "see" the hardware plugged into the hub. I have to unplug and plug in again... other times, my iMac freezes up or just doesn't recognize the keyboard or mouse (which aren't plugged into the hub). This may not be related to the hub, but others have had similar problems once they get a hub.
49 best buy for what it does
This thing does all that it says it does, flawlessly, unobtrusively and inexpensively. If you need more, buy more; if not, buy this.
50 Best of 3 I tried
Having the ports accessible from the front, unline the other 2 that I have purchased, is majorly handy - you just don't think about it until it's too late - super nice.
51 Fast & Easy
There's not much to say about this product. I just plugged it in and instantly forgot about it! I was a bit skeptical because most USB hubs tend to be a bit pricier, but the D-Link hub works great and it can't get any easier to set it up. I love the compact design as well. This one is definately a no-brainer.
52 No Problems So Far
I've plugged two USB devices into this thing and haven't had any problems so far (digital camera, MP3 player). I wonder if the users who had power problems were using AC Adapter that came with this hub... ...this hub runs in two modes: with the AC adaptor, each port gives out DC +5V/500mA whereas WITHOUT the adaptor, the ports get 5V, but only 500mA in total (maybe that's what's causing some of the complaints). The D-Link was so cheap and so small that I thought I'd give it a try - paid off for me!
53 Great value for its price
This USB hub is excellent and you can't beat its value price. If you want to have more USB conectors, think no more: this hub is for you. The overall quality is very good. Also, it's Plug & Play.
54 Inexpenisive and easy to install powered 4 port USB hub
When the number of USB devices here exceded the number of ports on my Dell Dimension, I shopped around for a 4 port USB hub. This unit looked appealing; not only did it come with a 6 foot USB cable, it could be powered by the computer USB port or from it's own wall wart power supply. When it arrived, it was an easy and straight forward install. Plug the supplied cable into the hub, plug the hub into the computer's USB port, plug the devices into the hub, you're done. Turning the computer's power on, five LEDs lit up green. One LED for each port and one showing the hub is running from the computer's power supply. A red LED lights to show when the HUB's wall wart is supplying the power. Elegant simplicity in a translucent package, the most difficult thing to expect in setting this up is opening the blister pack to get at it.
55 Great for USB Expansion
My computer came with two USB ports, which became a hassle since I have four USB devices. It became a pain to constantly unplug and plug in cables. The D-Link DSB USB 4 port hub has been a great buy. I can now run my web cam, visor cradle, printer, and digital camera without having to mesh with the cables. Piece of cake to install and I have not had any problems with the product.
56 Great little hub
I'm very pleased with the D-link USB Hub. I like the small size of it. I definately like the price. I use mine for my PDA cradle, eMarker, Nomad II, and for my PC link for my minidisc player. All work fine on the hub. Stylin clear cover is a plus. Although the instructions are a little...sketchy, after a few miniutes, you get it working. And I do wish all of the connections were on one side. The main reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because it could use something, like 4 peices of rubber, to make it STAY to where you place it. I highly recommend it.
57 Easy Link
This is a very easy product to use and install. I like this product because it is inexpensive and allows you to plug in additional devices with no worry. Currently I have a scanner, printer, and an optical mouse plugged in. I read reviews of all the other USB hubs and decided on this model because of price, other customer reviews, and ease of use!
58 D-Link DSB-H4 seems underpowered
At first I found these hubs great. Then I tried to add more USB devices and I found that several of them failed to work any more. This included a SmartMedia reader and a QPS CD-RW drive in particular. For that reason I would highly recommend buying a hub with more power if you are going to attach several USB devices to a single hub....
59 Great USB Hub
i bought this usb hub a few weeks ago and it is really great. i use it mostly for accessories digital cameras, card readers, pda etc.
60 You won't know it's there
Not a bad little device. It's inexpensive and saves the hassle of unplugging and plugging in periphials. Also, some USB devices don't function properly unless connected during start-up.
61 My 10 year-old niece could do it...
I had read reviews written by others whose experiences had been less than positive, but that didn't stop me from trying. I opened the box, plugged the hub into my computer, plugged in my devices (my Canon PowerShot Digital Elph, my Rio 600 mp3 player, and my Thrustmaster game pad). I turned on the computer. Windows pulled up the drivers automatically and I was up and running in less than 3 minutes. Yeah, the instructions are a bit scant if you're not sure what you're doing, but I didn't even use them.
62 Cheap hub - Cheap Results
I have owned this hub for about a year. For the most part, I was very satisfied with the hub when I was only using a couple of USB devices going into the hub.

However, I recently bought a USB CD-RW. On top of a printer, USB keyboard, etc. the CD-RW was just too much. I agree with the other reviewer, just spend an extra few bucks and get a robust hub that will last you a while, through multiple upgrades.

63 Simple plug-and-play
This product couldn't be easier to use. Simply plug the D-Link hub into the USB port on your computer and plug your USB devices into the hub. Works perfectly with many devices including a Palm, digital camera, desktop video camera and HP printer.
64 Great device at a great price
I purchased this hub to increase the number of USB ports on my machine. When it arrived I read the instructions (very minimal manual) and installed the hub and rebooted to Win98, the device was detected right away along with my scanner and steering wheel. I then rebooted into Win2k and repeated the procedure. My total setup time for the hub was about 10 minutes, including rebooting. I would recommend this for anyone who wants to increase the number of USB ports at very little cost.

Other then the limited instructions, I love everything about this unit, I put it on my desk behind my monitor so I don't even know its there.

65 Nice USB Hub, Great Price!
Purchased this hub for my little VAIO SuperSlim to simplify my connections to the printer, CDRW, scanner and flash reader. Works great! I did not realize how much faster USB printing was compared to the old parallel interface. I really like this little hub and the price was cheaper than the local stores even after shipping.
66 How easy can it get.
I love USB and the DSB-H4 Hub in particular. I like the small size of the hub. It doesn't take up much space on my already cluttered desk. The installation was a breeze. Plug it in, let windows install it's default drivers and BAM, more USB ports. The fact that it has a self power mode is a bonus as well for my webcam and digital camera, which use more power than the bus can supply.
67 It's like Christmas!
I hate to be one of those "this thing doesn't work" people, but my experience with this item falls just south of a root canal sans novacaine. The reason I bought a hub was to, well, hub things. I had enough USB devices to merit it, and after installation, I thought my troubles were over. No more plugging and unplugging. My bad. Each of the 4 ports had it's own personality. One didn't like the tablet, but loved the SmartMedia reader. It was ambivalent towards the scanner. Another happily took the visor but shunned the scanner.Getting each peripheral to work together at the same time was impossible. In some cases, powering up a device would shut the hub down entirely, necessitating unplugging it. Granted, some USB devices don't like to share, like the Nomad Docking station and the printer, but it makes me wonder about how a person could possible link 127 devices at the same time. I had a heck of a time with 3.

69 Fantastic! Powerful Little Hub! Recommend!
This is a terrific value! I've expanded my laptop's single USB port into four - quickly and easily. Even though I had read some mixed reviews, my experience has been very positive so far! You really don't need to spend more money on another hub - this one's a great value, reliable and is nice-looking too. I wouldn't think twice about buying this product.
70 Easy to Install
I first went to local retailers to comparison shop and found competitive products generally priced two to three times as much. So, I decided to give the D-Link a try. I powered down my Hewlett Packard running Windows ME and installed the new hardware. I chose to use the optional AC Power adapter, because I was hooking up the "Viking - Intelliflash smart card reader" and wanted to ensure enough power.

Upon rebooting Windows ME automatically recognized the product and installed the required driver. I verified the installation under "control panel/system/universal serial bus controllers." It was newly listed as a "general purpose USB hub." I can't imagine anyone having problem adding this hub to his or her existing system.

I give it a perfect 5 for ease of installation and excellent value.

71 Great value for a USB hub
This hub was a great value. I was suprised how much USB hubs go for, and this one represents an incredible value for someone who just wants a simple small USB hub.

The hub itself is small and attractive, with lots of LEDs to light it up, and the now so popular translucent stlying. Set up was a breeze, plug it in and your good to go.

The hub also supports self-powered or bus-powered operation. This means if like me your hooking up small low power devices to it, YOU DON'T HAVE TO PLUG IT IN!

The user guide is a little lacking, and the retail packaging is a little plain, but if you can live with that, this is an exceptional value.

72 No Fuss
We have a DLink print server that has served us well so I thought I would give their USB hub a try. Out of the box to operational was two minutes - not a lick of trouble. I am running a mouse, a camera and a digitizing tablet through it with no trouble. The only thing I added was a bit of velcro so it would stay put.

I did have a problem with my Nikon Coolpix 880 because it does not support hubs - nice touch Nikon!

73 Excellent hub after its installed
I plugged this is and windows 2000 had to update the system. And that took forever. I don't know if its because its windowns 2000 or the hub, but thats never happened to me and it was very annoying to sit there and wait about 45 mins. while it was being updated. But after that, it works great. I have a HPscanne and lexmark printer hooked up and it works fine. But I believe the AC adapter is a waste. My scanner wouldn't work when it was self powered(plugged in) but worked when it was bus powered (unplugged).Same with my printer. So don't bother plugging it in. Its a waste of time and fustrating. Would of given it a 4.5 but they don't have it so it gets 5 stars. Excellent hub for the price though.
74 Easy to Install, Great Small Size, Great Price, Works Great
I just took this out of the box and had it installed in less than five minutes - seriously. I was a little surprised at first because it is only a little larger than the size of a deck of cards. So I took out the included AC adapter and plugged it into the hub and into my powerstrip. Then I plugged the included USB cable into my computer's USB port and into the hub. Windows 98 recognized the new hardware and installed it with the Windows 98 CD in about twenty seconds. Then I plugged in my IntelliMouse Optical and my Intel Camera and Windows installed them as well and I was all set. Five minutes after opening the box!

So these are the great things about it.

1. Easy to install: literally five minutes.

2. Great size: not much larger than a deck of cards.

3. Great price: PCI USB ports cost twice as much.

4. Works great: four devices can be plugged into the space of one of your computers USB ports.

A Great Buy!

75 Nice little USB HUB and pretty too
This is a nice little USB HUB at a very reasonable price. From a networking standpoint im typically not to fond of D-Link but this device is definatly an acception. I have only had one problem with this HUB and that is when I am using the other 3 ports and plug in my USB video camera I run into a bandwidth problem and windows screams at me about it. Cameras can be rather intense of a sytem bus and like CD-Burners are best left on a direct system port rather than running off a HUB so im not suprized this happened. Another perk is this HUB lights up like an X-mas tree with 6 LED's and a clear case to really let it glow. Not that this is a real big deal but I like it ;) Overall a very good buy and well worth the $$$
76 Easy to use and works great!
No real problems what-so-ever getting this to work... My only gripe is that it "seems" to slow the boot up of Windows by a good 3 or 4 seconds. Otherwise a great product at a great price!!
77 Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't
It's really weird, I can't explain it--most of the time it works perfectly, but sometimes it justs stops working. But even though it works most of the time, I'd just save yourself the trouble and spend 10 bucks more to get a hub that works all of time. You know what they say, if it looks too good to be true, it probably is, and i think that that is the case with this product.
78 Plug it in, and it's a GO!
This hub is really very easy to install. Plug it and you're done! The AC adapter is included in case the devices need more power. It can be used without the adapter as well. It looks great, it's very small so it doesn't occupied precious space and it's affordable.
79 Simplicity
1: Remove (tiny, transparent) device from box. 2: Connect /w good quality (supplied) USB cable to PC. 3: Connect up to 4 USB devices to hub. 4: Get to work. It is really that simple. It has 5 green status LEDs (1 for each USB port and 1 for power on). It also has a transformer for external power, which is only needed if your USB device draws a lot of power (like a USB digital camera). This is a great peripheral at a great price.
80 An awesome product
I bought this hub several months ago and I am extremely pleased with its performance and looks. I am very pleased with its esthetic looks due to the clear case. One nice surprise was the fact that included with the USB hub was a power cable. This allows the hub to power the devises instead of siphoning power from your computer's motherboard. This helps keep your power hungry devices happy. I would recommend this to anyone that is looking for a good USB hub not only for its esthetics but for also its supreme performance for such a great price.
81 It should'a worked, but it didn't!
I followed the very brief instructions and printed a two page document, that is I printed 1 and 1/2 pages of it. On the second try it only printed 1/2 of the first page. In both cases the message came up stating that my computer was unable to communicate with my HP printer. I never had that problem before and I haven't had it since I removed the hub. There's always a reason that something is discounted so much!
82 Good design, but poor quality
This is a nifty little box. It matches my iMac nicely. I also love the way it works, when it works. That's my beef with this product. It is flakey. Sometimes it goes off-line and just a tap to the case will bring it back. Sometimes I have to wait until the moon is back in phase before it will work. I think it has a bad solder joint in there somewhere.

Do not believe the lifetime warranty and free support. It simply is not true. I have written to complain to the customer support folks and have been summarily ignored.

I'd recommend you buy something else. Next time I certainly will.

83 works great
the standard of 2 USB ports for computers isn't really enough.. I have a PDA Cradle, Webcam, Intellimouse Explorer, Scanner, and a Zip 250 drive that all use USB ports, and it gets to be a hassle having to switch them around all the time.

Hub works great, i reccommend it

84 Almost too simple!
I purchased this unit and had it installed and working in less than 5 minutes! Don't let the low price scare you. This was bargain! The unit is about the size of a deck of cards and can be tucked away behind your computer and out of sight. However, I like the cool lights and left it on top of my desk. Plus now, I've freed up 3 USB ports!
85 Worked instantly
I was truly impressed when I plugged this hub in for the first time. No installation was needed, and I was instantly able to use my scanner, printer, and pda cradle. ( + there's still one port left!) This hub is a great product, and a great deal... It looks really slick too!
86 Works like a charm
This hub is an incredibly inexpensive way to expand a system to accomodate more USB ports. It was truly plug and play. No problems whatsover. I have a mouse, a Smartmdeia Reader, and a scanner plugged into mine and everything works without a single problem. It is very small and takes up very little space.

Glad I bought it.....

87 Easy, useful, and great price
When we ran out of USB ports on our computer, I thought about getting an internal card to add 2 or 4 ports. I'm glad we went with this option instead, however.

The hub is pretty small, and so it was easy to find a spot to sit it near our USB devices; a couple of our USB cords had been stretched pretty tight to reach the computer, so it was nice to relieve that.

If you have any USB devices that expect to be getting power from the computer via the connection, you can plug the hub into a power outlet to accomodate.

88 Simple to use/Easy on the wallet
This Hub is very small, easy to install, and inexpensive. Worth 5 stars, but I do have one complaint. It would be nice if all of the ports were in the back, with just the LED lights in the front. If you want to be able to put this on the desk to see the lights, having to plug the cables in to the front of the hub is not very attractive. If I ever need to expand further, I'll look for one just like this, but with all the ports in the back.
89 It works like it is supposed to...
I installed a cable modem using one of my USB ports and the other was utilized by my scanner...Unfortunately that left my USB webcam without a home. I purchased this little jewel- it is self or system powered, and it was installed in about 2 minutes. Now my webcam is up and running and I still have two ports available. For the price, this device is perfect.
90 Does a great job and doesn't take up a lot of space!
I bought this hub because I had too many peripherals (Mouse, Printer, Joy Stick, Palm-Dock). When I opened the box I was surprised at how small the hub was (it is smaller than the palm of my hand). I quickly realized that this was a plus, beause it doesn't take up any room! The hub comes with a power cord and a usb cable. Both of the cables are quite long too, allowing the hub to go anywhere. Setting up the hub took less than 5 minuites. The best feature is that the hub can be self powered or powered by your computer, allowing you to bring it with you if you have a laptop. If you need a few extra ports, this is a great choice!
91 self-powered option
The Amazon description doesn't mention it, but this product is packaged with an AC adapter and can be self-powered rather than taking power from your PC's USB bus. This means that the hub can supply lots of power to connected USB devices. USB hubs without the self-power option cannot reliably support devices with a high current draw...
92 good hub
My computer has two usb ports but i have a printer a scanner and some other accesories that need usb connection. So i was thinking about buying a usb hub. I buy this one. I take me i few minutes to install it. It works very good, easy to connect to one of usb ports. Supports high and low speeds. It has 4 type downstream ports. Great hub at a great price $ 39 .
