Robert C. Atkins | Veronica C. Atkins
"Diet food can be better, richer, and more sumptuous than most everyday foods," says Dr. Robert Atkins, author of the massive bestseller,
Dr. Atkins' New Diet Revolution. Carbohydrates, in his opinion, are the root of metabolic evil and the source of hyperinsulinemia, a condition that makes it next to impossible to lose weight. Billed as a companion to his
Diet Revolution book, this collection of recipes focuses on ultralow-carbohydrate dishes. His anticarb stance leads to some unconventional dietary advice: "Remember that, as a rule, the lower the fat content of a milk product, the higher its carbohydrate grams. Use cream, not skim milk; use sour cream, not yogurt."
While these recipes are certainly quick and easy to prepare and feature easy-to-find ingredients, some are very high in fat (Zabaglione, Crab and Avocado Salad, Ham and Cheese Sandwiches, Baked Eggs in Bacon Rings). While it may be true that fat is flavor and is necessary to some extent to keeping blood sugar on an even keel, these recipes won't be helpful for those who are watching their cholesterol or are on similarly restricted diets.
1 Excellent book for Atkins followers
I found this to be chock full of delicious recipes that have the added benefit of being low in carbohydrates. My husband and I look forward to which one I will try next, and thus far each one has turned out delicious. Not for the Atkins skeptic as many of the recipes use sinfully rich ingredients such as heavy cream...as for everyone else, you will surely enjoy. Bon appetit!
Since I have been on this diet, all the cravings for junk food have gone. I was someone who lived for sugar and now I do not want any of it. I use to crave coffee in the morning as well but realized I didn't want that wired up feeling & acid stomach. I switched over to a caffeine-free coffee substitute made from soyabeans I found on the net at www.
S o y c o f f e e.c om. It so easy for someone to tell you to eat less, but if you are craving bad foods, eventually you will fail. In the first five days I was on this diet all the craving ceased and I was already 8 lbs down. If you were like me and cannot wait for your next slice of cake and at the same time really want to change your lifestyle, Try this.

I absolutely love this cookbook! It is in great condition and shipping was very quick. Can't beat the price, either!
3 The TRUTH about Dr.Atkins death
It is astonishing to read the slam pieces here about Dr. Atkins so-called obesity and overweight condition at the time of his death. Here are the facts:
* He previously had a heart condition called cardiomyopathy -- a serious disease of the heart muscle which is unrelated to diet.
* He died of a head injury because of an accident falling on slippery ice and not of being overweight.
* His actual weight was 200 pounds when he was admitted to the hospital at the time of his accident. The erroneous reports of him weight 258 lbs was based on his weight at the time of his death. The extra weight was not fat, but an accumulation of body fluids linked to organ failure during his coma.
* His previous reported heart attack was due to a viral infection and not diet related. He spoke openly of his condition on various national news programs.
* The report that was released about him being overweight was leaked to the press by a group named "Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine", which is an ardent opponent of the Atkins diet. In short, they distorted his weight by reporting the weight at the time of death - 258 lbs, and not at the time of his admittance - 200 lbs...an obvious attempt to discredit and distort the facts surrounding Dr. Atkins death.
* A formal complaint has been filed by the Medical Examiner of New York regarding the suspicious leak of this information to the public by the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine."
* The disinformation surrounding Dr.Atkins untimely death is politically driven by the AMA and other detractors of the diet.
Dr. Atkins book, New Diet Revolution has turned the AMA and other nutritional views upside down and has created a furor over the standard edicts of the medical profession. What is not said among the detractors of the Diet is that it is safe and it works. The information contained in this book will not only help you lose weight, it could save your life. The food industry, especially the bread and pasta industry have lost hundreds of millions of dollars because of the low carb revolution. Is it any wonder that this diet is under so much fire? Keep an open mind and read the book.
As a side note, ignor the mumbo-jumbo rantings and ravings of the "Elixir Diet" system (see below). The hatred and mis-information spread by the reviewer is evidence enough that the Elixir system is phony as a three cent penny. Nuff said. The guy hasn't even read the Atkins book!
4 Revolutionary
I've been an on and off dieter all my life. This one worked for me and I've been able to keep the 20 pounds off with steady exercise Weight Watches was too complicated and I felt starved all the time. On this program I look forward to mealtime and feel very strong.
5 Amazingly good recipes
The trick of dieting is to keep from being bored while being able to feed the non-dieters in the family something they won't turn their noses up at. The Dr. Atkins cookbook certainly fills that bill.
I tried the garlic meatballs, putting them on a bed of steamed shaved zucchini to replace noodles, and they were well-received by all. There are some very wonderful appetizers (artichoke hearts in bacon wrap) and generally, these are flavorful recipes that keep the boredom away. Yes, I lost weight, which previously didn't happen on other types of diets, so I give this a big thumbs-up.
6 excellent book; agree with last review
I have to agree with the last review. The ignorance of the other reviews clearly shows that they did not read Dr. Atkin's books. It seems they have totally missed the whole concept of how and why the diet works. There is plenty of fiber in this diet along with fruits and vegetables. It is a diet based on eating whole, unprocessed foods low in carbohydrates and higher in protein. The recipes in this book are wonderful, easy to make and very healthy for you. I have to admit, the induction period of Atkins is difficult to maintain, but not impossible, especially with great recipes to help you along.
7 Ignore the ignorance of previous reviewers
The Atkins diet is NOT dangerous -- when done correctly. People screw up on Atkins because they DON'T READ THE BOOK. They don't know about the "induction" (lasts 2 weeks; a couple of days of light-headedness is normal while in transition) and then further phases; they don't bother with the supplements that are crucial to Atkins success. They don't realize the plan is "controlled carbs" not "no carbs." Please ignore the ignorant remarks made by some others and get this great recipe book -- it's a life-saver!
8 BEWARE
BEWARE!!! I know 2 people who have had fainting/passing out attacks and heart pains after being on the Atkins Diet. Be very, very careful what you are doing with this diet!! Neither were in bad health or had previous problems....
9 Great recipes
My husband is "doing" Atkins, and this book is great! It has wonderful recipes that ARE actually quick and easy...
10 Offers the variety you crave on Atkins!
My husband and I both lost weight on Atkins but we were looking for recipes which could add a bit of variety to our daily menus, having already gone through tons of recipes both online and off. This book was just what we were looking for and had lots of vegetable recipes to fill in the basic meat, fish and other protein recipes.
Although it is true (as other reviewers have noted) that some of the recipes are a bit time-consuming, this isn't true of many. Take the Cauliflower with Cumin sauce, for example - it takea less than 10 minutea and can be served hot or at room temperature (we even like it cold).
The sauce section of this book is a major plus, since you can simply makes most of these ahead of time and then keep them in the fridge till needed, a simple way to spice up everyday meals with a unique sauce. We've used the Basil-Pesto sauce on chicken and fish, impressed guests when we served beef with Walnut and Blue Cheese Butter and jazzed up green beans or broccoli with the Cilantro Butter.
We've used and re-used this one many times, even though we've had it less than 2 weeks!
11 Inconsistent Recipes - Forget the dessert section
I was very eager to start using some of the recipes in this cookbook but have found very mixed results. The three dessert recipes I've tried are a cruel hoax, especially the brownies. They were basically inedible, even for my husband who never met a food he doesn't like. He threw them away after tasting one. There are recipes which in the method section call for ingredients that aren't listed in the ingredient section. One chicken dish calls for the dish to be baked for two hours, which would make it good for only the garbage. I would hardly call the spicy cauliflower recipe spicy. However, the goat cheese chicken breast rollup has become one of our favorites. If they could just remove the dessert section altogether and editorially fix the recipes that need to be, it would make it a much better cookbook.
12 A great resource for those following the Atkins program
This cookbook is a great resource for those following the Atkins program, and the tasty dishes in this book prove that one can eat normally and well while following "Atkins for Life" as my wife and I are. I am a lousy cook myself, but my wife is a great one, and this book helped both of us prepare dishes consistent with the Atkins regime.
The Atkins program has proven itself in our household. I have come down from a 35 to a 31 waist in about 8 months, and I realized very significant and visible results during the first two months of being on the diet. My wife has experienced similar results. All of this occurred without that ghastly craving feeling that you get when you follow a low-calorie diet. By observing Atkins a person can eat well, experience a wonderful sense of high energy, and regain control over one's diet and body. This cookbook is a great resource in following the Atkins regime, since the one price of the Atkins concept is that you do have to pay attention to your carbohydrate intake. This cookbook is valuable for the recipes it contains, and perhaps more to the point, it helps educate the reader as to what kinds of ingredients are consistent with a low-carbohydrate diet. This had confused me when I first went on the diet and this cookbook was helpful in enabling me to understand what kinds of ingredients to use in recipes, and also what kinds of dishes are OK to order in restaurants.
The Atkins program is a lifetime program which enables a person to stay thin without suffering or deprivation. The recipes in this book prove that Atkins is not all about eating bacon and other high fat foods. In fact, this book proves that Atkins is a healthy and sensible program that one can follow for life.
13 It's good enough for me.
I'm especially in love with the greek hamburger recipe. It's filled with tomatoes, feta, spinach and has a totally yummy yogurt sauce on top! No bread and it fills me up big time! Yum! I crave this one recipe more than anything else. Buy the book and give it a try!
14 Not very impressed
I was expecting quick and easy recipes that were really tasty and instead found the opposite. Some ingredients were difficult to find and some recipes I made were not very appetizing. There are many other low carb cookbooks available that you will enjoy for example Eat Yourself Thin Like I Did - Lauri's Low Carb Cookbook just to name a couple.
15 Good recipes for Low Carb cooking!
I rate this book with 5 stars because it takes patience and persistance to figure out how to remove the "gunk" from most recipes, which is what has been done here, and still have them taste good!
Unfortunately you have to "cook from scratch", which I personally love to do. Fortunately, someone has done most of the leg work for you. This is a good overview of how to prepare low carb foods, from soup to desserts.
Atkins's low carb philosophy is a life-style, so anyone who hopes to be successfull should read this book and get other low carb recipes as well, and then adapt them to their own taste.
Now I eat as much "cheese cake" without guilt as I want, continue to shrink in size and feel great.
What more of a testimonial can I make?
Thank you Dr. Atkins and Mrs. Atkins!
16 Great diet! but ingredients hard to find.
I highly recommend the Atkin's Diet! I have been on it for six months now and I am losing wieght, looking and feeling better than I have for many years. You only feel tired if you don't get enough fat in the diet. It took me a while to figure this out. However, the ingredients in his recipes are very hard to find. I have access to only a small health food store. If you don't have access to a very large, well-stocked health food store, you may have to order the ingredients online. I still salute Dr. Atkins and thank him for giving me my health back!
17 Excellent book - Excellent diet
This is a must-have. This book is packed with very good, easy to make recipes. The results are excellent, just like with the famous diet of this brilliant and courageous doctor. Once you flip that mental switch, and don't see this diet as a diet, but as a very healthy way of life (or way of eating, actually) you will gain health and lose weight fast. This book really helps you flipping that switch while "dieting" like a gourmand. I can absolutely recommend it.
18 trying to loose weight
im trying to find out what foods i can eat and how much a day with the carbohydrate diet please reply
19 Its useful but...
I wish i would have looked for the atkins webpage before i bought the book..the good and actual useful recipes are on the webpage (atkinscenter.com) and I really didnt even need to buy this book.If you are one who would rather have a book to pull outin front of you, then I agree that the info in here is useful, but it is available to anyone without a purchase. The website has way more recipe and are adding new ones everyday.
20 Loved it!
I loved this cookbook! Due to the negative comments I did not purchase the book on Amazon.Com. While browsing through [a local store]I saw it and decided to purchase it. The recipes are so simple to prepare and taste great! I have every low-carb recipe book that exist and this is my absolute favorite. I too am puzzled by the readers who speak of exotic, hard to find ingredients. Where do they live or were they confusing this book with someone elses??? I can find everything at my local supermarket. I usually don't like cookbooks without pictures but this is certainly my favorite low carb book to date because the recipes are extremely easy to prepare and taste great. Unfotunately, I do not have too much time or energy to spend in the kitchen after a long day of work. This book is perfect because the recipes are easy to follow, minimal ingredients and fuss, without sacrificing flavor. Instead of reaching for something that's not too appetizing and statisfying reach for Veronica Atkins cookbook. They weren't kidding when they called it Fast & Easy!
21 Wonderful Recipes
After several months of cooking with this cookbook, I consider it to be one of my favorites. I am very puzzled by the negative customer reviews. After reading the statements about how many ingredients were "unheard of" or not available, I read the book again and still can't figure out what ingredients these people are talking about! My husband (who quickly lost over 10 lbs. on the Atkins program) raves about Mrs. Atkins recipes (actually he fondly refers to her as "Veronica") and we have many favorites, including the Shrimp Scampi, Steak with Cognac sauce, Crustless Pizza, Chicken with Mushroom Sauce, the Sesame Breading and Fennel Parmesan Salad. The Yorkshire pudding is also delicious and incredibly easy. All the recipes I've tried were truly, as the title indicates, "Quick and Easy". I've never written a "customer review" before but felt compelled to do so in defense of Mrs. Atkins after reading several reviews which, in my opinion, are totally off the mark. I have lost 20 lbs. following the Atkins program and have never eaten so luxuriously on a diet or felt so great. I highly recommend this book for perhaps the more sophisticated cook who appreciates a European style of cooking.
22 Yuk recipes - but great diet
I love the low carb diet plan, it has been working well for me so far. But when I got bored with my food I knew I needed some new ideas so I purchased several low carb cookbooks. This one is just awful to me - I haven't liked a single recipe yet. I keep thinking that a Dr. Atkins' cookbook would have to be great but I am so disappointed. If you want some new recipes ideas, may I suggest "Lauri's Low Carb Cookbook", it's the best I've seen to date.
23 Best low carb recipe book I have found!!!!
I purchased this book right before taking a vacation to Kauai. We took the book along since we were staying at a condo. We have tried about eight recipes so far and every single one has been fabulous. They are easy, taking less than 30 minutes to prepare and the ingredients are readily available even in tiny grocery stores in Kauai. Some of the recipes we have tried include Endive Salad with Walnuts & Roquefort, Chicken with Coconut-Plum Sauce, Creamed Chicken with Mushrooms, Filets Mignons with Zesty Wine Sauce, Sauteed Fish with Lemon-Parsley Sauce, Shrimp Scampi and Scallops in Sherry-Cream Sauce. We have laughed that we are eating better at home than when we go out to a restaurant and spend $80-100 per meal. Maybe the people who have given this book a negative review are into eating their meats and fishes very plainly. If you like easy to prepare and delicious sauces, you will love this book!
24 Not for me.
I found that the recipes in this book were not to my liking. I love the diet but just could not get into these different meals.
25 Not At All What I Expected
I was very disappointed with this book! I was hoping to find recipes for low carbohydrate meals that I could prepare for myself (and my family). Instead, these recipes look like something that a chef would prepare for royalty! I never even heard of some of the ingredients! I was really hoping to find a cookbook that would help me prepare everyday meals keeping the carbohydrates low. That's not what I found in this book!
26 Not exactly "quick and easy"
While I did find a few good recipes in this book, I felt that the title was deceiving. Perhaps these recipes would be "quick and easy" for a skilled chef. However, they might not be for other less skilled culinaries. I had to visit several stores to find some of the ingredients for many of the recipes (there were even some ingredients that I had never heard of and wasn't sure how to pronounce). I also had to spend a lot of time figuring out some of the cooking terms. If your cooking skills are limited to boiling, baking, frying, toasting, broiling, and grilling; you may need to purchase a Kitchen dictionary or encyclopedia to help you out. On a lighter note, these recipes do offer some variety to your meals.
27 Not what I expected!
I read the customer reviews on this book, and decided to give it a try despite some negative comments. I must say, I found nothing of value in the cookbook, and returned it. I can easily create low-carb recipes that are much better than the ones offered by Dr. Atkins and his wife! I was hoping to find some recipes that used the Atkins Baking Mix, but to no avail! I have many cookbooks on my shelf that I have kept because there were a few tempting dishes. I am sorry to say that there were none in this one.
28 This is really a catalogue advertisement
The author wants you to buy his prepackaged foods and this book is the bait.
29 Too Bizarre!!!
I puchased 2 of the "Dr. Atkins' Quick and Easy New Diet Cookbooks, " one for me and one as a gift. I returned them both two days after I received them. In my opinion, the recipes are too bizarre. I only found 2 recipes in this book that I would have tried. I did, however, also purchase the gram counter book and the "Dr. Atkins' Diet Revolution" book and I kept both of those.
30 Adore the diet - but found only a few useful recipes
I've long enjoyed cooking elegant meals nearly as much as consuming them, but found very few recipes in this cookbook that are practical to prepare. Some contain ingredients found on few shelves (except those of health food stores or, perhaps, gourmet shops), and one assumes that Veronica Atkins, unlike most of us, has help with both shopping and preparation. Many of the meals are not appealing, and others involve too much expense, fuss, and bother.
This cookbook could create problems for anyone not used to tweaking recipes. For example, the chicken paprika is perfectly delicious, but following Mrs Atkins "cooking time" is far from adequate - the chicken was still cold and red inside when I did so. The number of main dishes for which one would easily have ingredients at hand (even if one loves to cook) is very disappointing.
31 Just what I needed!
I'm not much of a cook, and with a family of 8 to cook for, having to prepare Atkins meals for myself was trying.
This cookbook really increased the different types of meals I am eating, and broadened my scope of foods considerably. When I found myself having extreme cravings for chocolate and sugar, the dessert recipes were a definite help!
The recipes are simple, the ingredients aren't so obscure or expensive as to render the recipes useless, and the cooking time is minimal.
I loaned my copy of the book to a friend -- and haven't gotten it back! She had been on the Atkins way of eating for 3 years, and was going crazy with the monotony of it. This book salvaged her as far as Atkins is concerned.
I highly recommend this book to anyone on Atkins, especially anyone with a busy lifestyle without a lot of time to spend in the kitchen.
32 My husband loves the dishes I have prepared from this book
They are truly quick and easy, without unusal ingrediants. And very tasty. I use it every week.
33 Excited
I have just started to read the Diet Revolution. Each page I read gets me more excited to begin this diet, it makes so much sense despite the fact that my medical doctor is skeptical about the diet. He's concerned about fat and cholesterol. I haven't tried the cook book yet so I don't have a comment about it. I would like to know if there is an e-mail address one can contact to ask questions. Thanks
34 Love the diet! Don't care for the book
I found most of the recipes a little exotic for everyday. I have only found a couple recipes I would even consider trying. As a few have said before me, this is more of a gourmet cookbook. I also found the carb content of some recipes a little higher than I would have preferred.
35 I now Look Forward To Eating
As a new follower of low carb eating, I have been cooking every night and absolutely enjoying his recipies. My husband, who is not on this diet, is VERY happy with the meals. Everything in the book is easy to find in the store, or health food store. The recipies are simple and delicious. Tonight we will enjoy baked salmon, pg 82, with Creamy Celery Sauce, pg 167. I can hardly wait. I work, am handicapt and recovering from a broken hip- nothing will stop me from easily making these DELICIOUS simple meals! Thank you Dr Atkins!
36 Great for the diet....and tastes great too!
It's funny the different opinions on low carb books. I was looking for one, and found that quite a few people preferred Fran McColloughs book, and said that Atkins book was dull. So, I searched out Fran's book at a store (didn't want to wait for shipping). Her book is more for someone that wants to cook gourmet.I was looking for everday meals. Dr.Atkins' wife on the other hand has done a wonderful job with the recipes she has come up with. I've read a couple of other comments on review board. Some say that there are ingredients that are too hard to find? I have no idea what they're referring to. Everything I've read is readily available. The first recipe I tried was the Chicken Paprika. YUM YUM! Then the Garlic Meatballs w/Creamy Mushroom Sauce. YUM YUM! again. Being on Dr.Atkins diet is even easier now! Check it out...you won't regret it. (And, it's almost half the price of Fran's).
37 delighted
After being told by my family doctor that my cholesterol level was dangerously high and of course I have high blood pressure regulated by medications, I was told I had to get on a very low fat diet. I could hardly eat anything. This diet was brought to my attention by a doctor who I work for, both him and his family are on it and have had great results. He told me that a lot of doctors mistake in telling their patients that it's not high fat that causes the cholesterol level to rise but sugar in the individual diet that is the problem. I was amazed. I am going on it this week. I can't wait. I have a copy of the cookbook and have been trying ut some of the recipes. I see nothing wrong with them. In fact they are great. I am eating better than I ever did and I am a person who has a part time catering business. I have used some of the recipes in my business and have had nothing but praise. My daughter is 19 and 5'1" tall weighing 100 lbs. I have tried the recipes on her and she loves them. Our whole family will be on this whether they need to lose weight or not. We will be eating right. The ones that do not require weightloss will have their usual chocolate bars etc. Thank you for a life again.
38 THERE ARE BETTER COOK BOOKS OUTHERE
I too am very grateful to Dr. Atkins research but this cookbook asks for ingredients I've never heard off. If you don't have a food processor or an extensive spice rack, you're in trouble. These recepies are not for people who have little time to cook. You can try Lauri's Low-carb cook book or The low- carb cook book by McCulloughs. I'm sure he won't mind us trying more exciting cookbooks as long as we all stay healthy!
39 Disappointed
For the cooking impaired, this is not the book for you. Although I am delighted with his Diet Revolution book, I am displeased with his cookbooks. They are anything but simple. I found some of the ingredients difficult to locate where I live. I had hoped for something simplier. Like many people today, I am incredibly busy with family and work. I don't have time to chase down ingredients and spend a lot of time in the kitchen. The cookbook is collecting dust on top of my refridgerator now.
40 Dr. Atkins: New Diet Cookbook
I am completely grateful for all of the work and research Dr. Atkins has done over the years. His book "New Diet Revolution" has changed my life! I lost over 60 pounds in less than 5 months! (Thank you again Dr. Atkins.) I am not, however, as pleased with the "New Diet Cookbook". I am a vegetarian seeking a cookbook that promotes low-carb cooking in addition to the no-meat approach. Most of the recipes in this book require pork, beef, chicken, and other meat substances-understandably so, since the diet is a high-protein/high fat program. For those that enjoy consuming meat, this book may be of pleasure to you. But for people like me who prefer a vegetarian lifestyle, yet still require a high-protein, low carbohydrate diet, you won't find success with this book. Good luck on your weight loss/management journey. May peace and happiness be unto you.
41 There's not one recipe that appeals to me.
I am sorry that I bought this book, however the picture of the couple on the back is very endearing. (85% of married couples are married to thier first and only spouse. the 50% stat which the media is fond of promoting is the number of licenses taken out versus the number of divorces filed for per year). I highly recommend his original book (which I use as a cookbook ISBN 0 553 27157 1) and his "New Diet Cookbook" (ISBN 0 87131 794 X). His diet has given me a new life. I do not have the words to describe the impact that this man's work has had in my life. Please do not confuse my dissatisfaction with this one book with my satisfaction for his works.
42 DISAPPOINTING!
I am so disappointed with this cookbook; I expected something better from Dr. Atkins. The few tasty recipes were too high in carbs and the lower carb recipes just didn't taste good to me. It's obvious that Dr. Atkins and I do not share similar culinary tastes. However, there are a few really good low carbohydrate cookbooks out there now; I recommend "Lauri's Low-Carb Cookbook" by Lauri Randolph or "The Low-Carb Cookbook" by Frances McCullough. These are the best two available to date; they both offer a variety of cooking styles and tastes. I love Dr. Atkins diet plan, but I am very disappointed in his cookbook.
43 New Diet Revolution
Hello I am just looking into starting this diet, I have read the book and find it very good. I only thing I need, is a more detail list of what to eat in those 14 days. I find if I have to follow a list I stay with it more. And I need to lose weight so bad. I was wonder if their is a chat room for this. please let me know asap. as I want to start this right away.
44 Gets your imagination rolling!
After obeying the diet's ground rules, I needed some inspiration to keep up with a good thing. This book passes with high marks. The ingredients are either in your cabinets (as often stated) or easy to obtain. The receipes ARE easy and quick. Tasty. Try the meat-izza for a Friday night. Or die for the crustless cheesecake. Keep red cabbage in the fridge for those filling pre-dinner salads. My daughter and I have been leafing through this diet road map and losing weight every week. In our opinion, this book is a great addition to your kitchen and the perfect companion to the Atkins Diet.
45 Great, Wonderful! But could use more recipes.......
I've been using this book for approx. 2 weeks in conjuction with the diet. I have enjoyed every recipe I have tried and have found them to be tasty as well as fairly easy to make. Some of the recipes do have higher carb content than I would like, but I just plan ahead and eat less carbs throughout the day--it's worth it. This cookbook has helped make this the easiest "diet" I've ever tried and I can certainly see this turning into a lifelong way of eating, definitely more so than any other plan I have tried. I always knew deep down inside, that I could never stick to a low-fat, high carb diet indefinitely--the thought of that always depressed me. I am now going to purchase his other cookbook on the basis of having such success with this one. I've never been much for cooking, just the basics, so I didn't find the recipes to be tedious or redundant. I loved the creamed chicken w/mushrooms, burgers w/feta, pork medallions in dill sauce, and garlic dill meatballs. I just tried the cheese bread and found it to be very satisfying after 3 1/2 wks (and 17 lbs lighter) with no bread. I just wish there were more recipes. I love this book and I love this way of eating!!!
46 An extremely helpful aid in following the Atkins Diet.
I was surprised when I first perused the recipes in this cookbook. I expected to find stripped down versions of recipes I really was not interested in but discovered the recipes were wonderful. In reading the recipes I have discovered how simple it is to take my own favorites and convert them to Atkins recipes. This diet is pain free and I can see how simple it is to make this a lifestyle instead of a band aid for weight problems. I have lost twelve pounds in 18 days and that amount of success speaks for itself.
47 Cut Carbs for the Millenium
As the author of the first "insulin-conscious" gourmet cookbook ("The Gourmet Prescription: High Flavor Recipes for Lower Carbohydrate Diets"), I'm 100% in favor of new low-carbohydrate recipes to help people on insulin-controlling diets avoid FOOD BOREDOM. From a culinary point of view, the recipes in this book are adequate, but no one would mistake them for exciting, creative, full-flavored cuisine. For that, you need THE GOURMET PRESCRIPTION, which is as much about INTENSIFYING FLAVOR as it is about LOWERING CARBOHYDRATES.
48 I have lost 8 pounds in 1.5 weeks
I beleive that this diet is the way to the future. If everyone would cut out carbs in thier diet it will make the world a hapier place to be, because not having all the carbs you feel so much better.
49 Easy to follow - great receipes
I have tried a lot of diets and this is the only one my husband and I can follow without a problem and starving to death. I get really creative with the receipes like for the ice cream I add cinnamon and dec. coffee it is great. Thanks
50 Excellent
I became interested in the diet when a friend told me about it. At a weight of 250lbs I was ready to start losing. In two months I have lost 50lbs and still losing. I feel wonderful and more energetic than ever. This diet showed me a new way of life forever. Thank you Dr. Atkins
51 VERY WELL EXPLAINED
I like reading all The sucess Stories
52 WASTE OF MONEY
What a waste of money!!! Most of the recipes are either ones I can make up (like the 9 variations on eggs for breakfast, ex.: eggs with bacon wrapped around them, or 11 recipes for salad) or ones I can find elsewhere (like 58 recipes for meat or seafood or 16 variations for side vegetables) or ones with weird ingredients I can't afford (gruyere, chevre, endive, roquefort, sate, stilton) or ones I would never want to eat (like 3 recipes for veal). To top it off, there aren't that many recipes (about 150 total). I am definitely returning this book. I have found many low-carb recipes on the internet... if you do a little searching, you'll save yourself the money, and the annoyance.
53 Bravo
I have tried several of the recipes in this book and found them all to be excellent, especially the crustless cheesecake which whips up in about 3 minutes. Culinary skills are helpful but if you're trying to eat low carb you better have some skills anyway! I loved the Chicken Paprika, and having bread again is Divine! The only item I have not found is whey protein, barring that a wonderful addition to my sparse low carb library!
54 Quick & Easy !!! But, needs more re: Less...........
The book needs recipes that have less total carbs per serving. I would like more soup recipes, like a good chicken soup recipe. This book makes it easy to lose the weight. When a plateau is difficult to move past, I wish there were some sort of "jump start" hints, or something suggested in the book to help at this time. I really did love the recipes I have tried so far, not only tasty but easy. Thanks
55 Need more recipes with small amounts of carbohydrates
The recipes are fairly easy to make, but I would still like to see small amounts of carbohydrates in each one. Also bacon and eggs for breakfast for the rest of my life is a bit too much! As for the liquids one is allowed to drink, it doesn't specify how much "diet drink" for example; just this morning I took a Diet 7-Up which indicates it has 35 grams carbohydrates in it, although it is 'diet'.
56 Great ideas!
This diet is wonderful. I have lost 37 lbs in 3-1/2 week with 27 more to go. Thank you Dr Atkins!!
57 Excellent book, the results are right on target!
I have tried unsuccessfully to lose weight for the past several years. My daughter-in-law first tried the Atkins approach and introduced me to the publications, both the book and the cookbook. I have lost more than 50 pounds in four months without a problem. I feel better than I have in years! It works!! The publications are well written and easy to understand. If you back up your reading with a firm determination to lose weight, you can't miss! I am not a testimonial writer about almost any thing you can mention, but this works for me!
58 Absolutely,No Doubt,True Life Saver !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This diet has enabled me to lose 15 lbs and 14 inches in only 6 weeks. It is very close to the well known mayo diet recommened by heart doctors.I had a light heart attack at age 33, last year, needless to say I am on the "Heavy side of things".I started at a wieght of 226lbs, and I am only 5'1 foot tall.I will lose at least another 75 lbs , then I will work on a maintain plan.I just want to say thank-you for being a life saver to me ! I hope that God will bless you all.I also need to tell you that our church has a great team of people doing this diet together! IT IS WONDERFUL !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sincerely, Lisa Hair

60 Great with the New diet Revolution
First I read the New Diet Revolution then I got Quick & Easy cookbook. This cookbook is outstanding. I have found the ingredients for alot of the recipes at Health Food Stores but also at a regular Supermarket. This book really helps you figure out how to put dishes together. It gives helpful suggestions so that you will try several recipes to make a complete meal. I'm looking forward to getting and reading other books by Dr. Atkins books.
61 just great dr atkins is the best diet I feel wonderful.
I WOULD RECOMMEND THIS DIET FOR ANY ONE WHO HAS HAD TROUBLE LOSING WEIGHT AND KEEPING IT OFF. ON DR ATKINS DIET YOU ARE NEVER HUNGRY YOUR NOT LOOKING IN THE REFRIGERATOR EVERY TEN MINUTES FOR SOMETHING TO SATIFY YOUR APPETITE. THE BEST PART ABOUT THIS DIET YOU GO TO BED WITH FEELING YOU ARE NOT DEPRIVED. I THANK YOU DR ATKINS AND MY BROTHER INLAW THANKS YOU NOW HE CAN EAT AND ENJOY THE WORLD OF FOOD.
62 Not Bad but.... not that great either!
Maybe my expectations were a little too high when I ordered this book but I wasn't that impressed when I got it. I have come to the conclusion that I can not eat a high protein diet for long periods of time. I need vegetables in the worst way... the breads, while I love them aren't the problem. Sometimes you want to just eat corn and carrots. I was hoping to see insightful menus that managed to incorporate carbs and keep them relatively low enough to still stay on the diet. This is clearly not attempted. The other thing is that most of the recipes were uninspiring. I didn't want to just rush right out and do them.
I did find a gem though and want to give credit where credit is due.... I loved the roasted pepper soup.... now that's good.
63 Tasty recipes that are easy to do
I purchased this cookbook after starting the Atkins diet because I was looking for quick recipes that would also provide variety for my low carb eating. I am totally satisfied with this cookbook. It provides a great guide to shopping low carb as well as lots of cooking tips. I find that the recipes are easy to master and the results are amazing! I have made dishes with wonderful, tasty sauces.Because of my busy schedule, I didn't think it would be possible to produce gourmet results in such little time. Not only do I recommend this book to people on low carb diets, I recommend it to anyone who is looking for a creative cookbook with easy recipes that resemble restaurant-style eating. Enjoy!
64 Simply put-------I didn't like it.
This book seemed to be " quickly" put together compared to the NEW DIET REVOLUTION. The dishes were mediocre. I tried a few which could indeed be prepared in thirty minutes but were not simple to make nor were they enjoyable. When your dieting----come on------make it appetizing! I bought this book quickly on the basis of the last one , but I learned not to ever do that again. The information about the carbohydrates would be of help to a novice but it was repetitious to anyone who had previous knowledge about Dr. Atkins. I didn't even have the majority of the ingredients called for in my kitchen either. Nothing in this book warrants it a place on my book shelf.
