1 A Breakthru in Healthly Choices
I was given this book from my mother who believed I had a fungal condition after having to take several heavy treatments with anti-biotics from infections I got from operations. After the antibotic treatments were finished, I had unexplainable weight gains of almost 100lbs each time. My doctor was stunned and even put me into the University of Chicago Hospital for observation and even they had no idea. But one thing stuck out from reading the book that pretained to me. It mentioned high triglyceride's and high colesterol counts, which I had hi triglycerides for apparently no reason. I was just breaking the 350lb barrier and any diet or exercise program had no permanent effect. But when I started the diet in the book, it had an immediate effect on me. I always had acid reflux, this is now gone, I also had swelling of the feet legs and mid section, this has subsided, and I started dropping weight, by the way i am only 42 years old and I have been fighting this condition for over 15 years with out knowing I had it. The rest of the book is full of interesting information that may surprise you, I know it surprised me.
2 Underexplored topic - interesting but a few aspects missing
Many who come to this book will probably have started to work out the role of fungus/yeast for themselves and are looking for confirmation on and development of this subject.
Some parts of the book are extremely interesting, although I wonder about the trust in prescribed antifungal drugs which have a range of side effects in themselves.
While hoping it is true that these antifungal drugs can help without further damage, my experience - a systemic fungus caused by prescribed drugs - leads me more to believe it is all too easy to prescribe fungus causing drugs. But reversing things can be more intractable.
One or two throwaway sentences on cigarettes and the role of yeast and sugars in the modern manufacture and curing of tobacco are curiously downplayed, although the implications are enormous and beg development.
His chapter on female problems is disappointing, focussing only on vaginal infections. Like many professionals, he fails to recognise the role of menstruation as blood loss which already introduces fungus. This is especially true in girls and women who have a basic lack of minerals and vitamins, particularly iron, which menstruation then increases.
This is then in turn increased one hundred fold with the introduction of steroid sex hormones (estrogen and progestin). These are not only prescribed for birth control, which is the author's main preocupation. They are also prescribed for medical reasons, including menstrual flooding caused by iron deficiency.
Estrogen and progestin are steroids and act like all steroids, suppressing symptoms and the immune system without addressing the root cause and encouraging fungus to overrun.
He also does not touch on the role of lack of iron. In girls and women, iron levels are first of all reduced by blood loss and then the deficiency is compounded many times over by steroid sex hormones. And if the girl or woman has a tendency already towards deficiencies, of course it makes things even worse.
Iron is vital for oxygenating the blood and therefore a lack, especially when artificially compounded by prescribed drugs, encourages fungus/yeast to flourish.
Nevertheless this is a useful tome, spelling out the Catch 22 situation which many patients who have dutifully popped prescribed pills find themselves in. Docs who insist that fungus comes on because they are "immunocompromized" while the patients themselves remember when they had no fungal/yeast symptoms before taking prescribed medication.
If only this book went a little deeper into what fungus/yeast means in girls and women, it would be truly valuable.
As it is, it is good in parts. If you've already come to the conclusion that fungus is a major culprit in your particular medical condition, it may not add a huge amount of information except giving you the confidence of your own conclusions.
The religious references can be intrusive and may detract from the credibility of the book for non-religious readers coming to it without experience of what fungus/yeast overrunning can do.
But it's probably the best and only book around on an important subject.
3 Wow
I found the book to be a real eye opener. It provides information that we can do ourselves to take control of our health. I felt much better after I tried the diet.
4 Kaufman Saved My Life!
I believe Doug Kaufman's "theory" regarding the effects of mold, fungus and yeast on one's body has saved my life. In 2000, my osteo-arthritis was CURED with anti-fungals, acidophilus, glucosamine and MSM. That convinced me yeast does indeed cause arthritis and other diseases!
(Incidentally, all of my allergies are also gone; cured by the anti-fungals I took for my arthritis!)
Later, I went on Adkin's diet, (similar to Kaufman's).I had nausea for the first ten days. I believe this was caused by the yeast in my colon travelling up through my GI tract, in search of it's "food" (carbohydrates, sugars). When the nausea left,
I broke out in a rash, which I believe was the yeast coming out through my skin.
What a releif to know the cause of so many deadly illnesses is now gone from my body! That is why I say Kaufman saved my life!
I have seen similar reductions in carbohydrates quickly reduce a man's dependency upon insulin. Whatever your illness, please try Kaufman's plan, to see if yeast is the cause. You might just find a CURE for what ails you, instead of simply treating symptoms for the rest of your life!
Kaufman also wrote "The Germ that Causes Cancer" and "Infectious Diabetes". ....
5 The Fungus Link
The Fungus Link was an incredibly helpful and informational tool for me to deal with chronic candida. As a research fanatic, the explanation of just HOW fungal toxins disrupt and injure the body and how to eliminate them made all the difference for me. There's a huge difference between knowing you have a condition and treating it and REALLY getting it and being empowered to deal with it in a holistic way - through nutrition, lifestyle, etc. Doug makes something complicated easy to understand and conquer! The Phase I diet really does work and isn't difficult to achieve on a daily basis with some effort. Knowing what foods to avoid during a healing crisis helps a person to realize what foods to avoid in the long run, as going back to them may regenerate the problem. As a result of faithfully following the Phase I diet and continuing to abstain from sugar, cheese, most grains and white flour products, I have achieved and maintained a 52 pound weight loss, lower cholesterol, significantly lower triglycerides, blood pressure and much more energy! A definite MUST READ for anyone suffering from candida, cancer, obesity, diabetes and many other ailments - fungal overgrowth, toxicity and candida is far reaching!!
6 This book & Doug Kaufmann changed my life
I have (or had) Lupus and this book changed my life. I went on the Phase I diet and all of my blood test went back to normal, no more joint pain, sun sensitivity etc. etc.. All my "symptoms" went away. Was my Dr. interested in how I did it, NO, she just said you don't have to come back unless you have a flare, said she never had a patient "graduate" before! This book is a God send for anyone with an autoimmune disease and it helps lots of other health problems also. Search out this book it will change your life also!

8 A MUST READ BOOK FOR EVERYONE INTERESTED IN THEIR HEALTH
This book expounds on the relation of fungus, yeast and mycotoxins residing in your body that has probably not been discussed with you by your medical doctor or health care professional. It is a real eye opener and will empower you with knowledge of how to heal your body of many diseases that your doctor may not know or understand or have been taught in medical school. It is all in the scientific medical literature.
The book is a simple read and written in understandable lay terms.
This is the direction that medicine will be moving to in the future as more professionals begin to learn and accept this knowledge they have never before been presented with.
9 educational
insightful and educational book. more of collection of article collected in book form with various topics. all provide good scientific data along with nutritional guidelines/recommendations. would benefit from more recommendations for various ailments, specific diet type changes, etc., but overall i think the book is a must read.
