The HP Deskjet 3520 color inkjet printer brings you simplicity and value. It is so easy-to-use and set-up - you will be printing in vibrant photo quality up to 2400-optimized dpi color and crisp black text from a single color cartridge in no time. Its reliable print speeds (up to 8 ppm) and its ultra-compact design make it perfect for your home. And, using the on-screen print cancel and ink-level indicators you can save time and money!
HP's DeskJet 3520 color inkjet printer offers a great package of basic features, perfect for home use. Delivering 2,400 dpi printing at speeds of 8 ppm in black and color, the 3520 offers reliable performance in a compact, space-saving design. It has a single 100-sheet paper tray that's able to handle plain paper, envelopes, transparencies, cards, and more. A single cartridge printing system keeps things simple, while on-screen ink-level monitoring and print cancel save you time and money.
To get the most out of your DeskJet 3520, consider adding an HP No. 27 black ink cartridge (HP model C8727AN, sold separately). With this cartridge, you can increase the printer's speed to a manufacturer-rated 12 ppm and produce high-quality black text documents. Note that only one cartridge can be installed at a time, so if you use only the tri-color cartridge, the three colors blend to produce near-black; if you use only the black cartridge, the printer can't produce color at all. However, the benefit of the single-cartridge system is simple low-maintenance operation and a very low purchase price.
The DeskJet 3520 has a single USB port for connecting to your PC or Mac, and comes with handy photo and imaging software to help you create calendars, cards, and more. The printer comes with all the instructions you need, plus a one-year warranty on parts and labor backed by HP customer care.

1 AWESOME print quality...
I recieved this printer when i got my new computer, it was one of those "add a printer for some odd amount", and we did. The printer definitely has its pluses...its very compact, fairly reliable, ink doesn't just give out on you, and it's decently fast. My major problem with it is, this... the ink. I had two full-sized ink cartridges that lasted absolutely no time at all. The print QUALITY was tremendous (not even just for a low-price printer) but considering the ink cartridges are roughly twenty to twenty five dollars a piece, and it's not uncommon to find this printer at less than forty dollars, it seems a little odd to me. If it were not for the cartridge capacity, i would have no problem with this printer and i would reccomend it to ANYONE, otherwise, the ink factor is definitely something to think about. I must say, even to the near-end of its life, the black ink printed, crystal clear and blemish free.

the print quallity was not bad, really.
i wanted to print dvd covers. one should be able to do that on letter size paper. however, there was an 1/8" boarder, whether i asked for it or not!!!
also, how long are those ink carts supposed to last? i think i did about 20 prints and it was through! the lady at walmart told me it was a full ink cart that came with it

One principle of economics is that you sell the razor cheap and charge through the nose for the blades. This works well for razors, but most people would revolt if they could only get half of a shave per blade. I haven't gone through a single 500 page ream of paper, but am already on my third $18 cartridge. That comes out to 33 cents a page, folks. Printing in draft or manually refilling the cartridges are the only options.
4 Great printer deal, but only if you know its limits
I had the advantage, I guess, of buying this in a store (Target) so I could tell by reading the outside of the box (duh) that no USB cable or B&W ink cartridge was included. I have extra USB cables around the house and went ahead and bought a B&W cartridge for the printer right away.
Reading some of the reviews here, I conclude that customers who bought the HP Deskjet 3520 from an online seller didn't have the opportunity to know what was and wasn't included. I can understand why they would be unhappy.
I bought this printer to replace an older HP deskjet that finally breathed its last (hey, it survived such incidents as having pretzels dropped into its works) while hooked up to my notebook in my little upstairs computer cart nook. My main printer is an HP Officejet 7130 workhorse, so I didn't need another printer to handle photos or cards. I've become spoiled by being able to print out web pages and other things from my second-string wireless surfing location away from the main office in the basement and so wanted a new second-string printer.
I finally decided to go with this printer because it's lightweight, and I can pack it along on a road trip when I take my Winbook.
It has performed very reliably for me, printing on plain paper, and the software includes the HP "preview" function as well as a cartridge ink level monitor.
As with any low-price inkjet printer, you have to realize that the cost of the printer is going to be less than the cost of feeding it more than once or twice with cartridges, even if you economize with remanufactured cartridges. You can save more money if you can successfully refill cartridges, but my only forays into that created more mess than value so I'll leave that to more capable folks.
I would certainly NOT recommend this printer for photo printing, or expect it to handle greeting card stock. It's very good within its limits.
5 Deskjet 3520 is a mistake...
The good news about the printer is that it is cheap and easy to setup. The disappointment starts from the time you try and print the first page. I would recommend it only:
(a) if you already own a USB cable (most likely with your USB cd/dvd-writer etc)
(b) if you print two/three pages a week
(c) do not care about printing in grayscale
My gripe list is:
1) Does not ship with USB cable
2) Does not ship with black ink cartridge (I may be asking for the world here)
3) Feeds multiple papers unless 15-20 pages are positioned in a specific way
4) *Biggest gripe *: If you need to print in grayscale, then you need to physically remove the color cartridge. It has no software enabled 'checkbox' option that lets you toggle between color and grayscale.
Oh, I forgot about a good feature: it has a rear access door that can be used to remove paper jams.
6 Spending all my money on ink!
Ok, the good stuff first. It's compact and quick and easy to set up and has been reliable so far. But, my Lord, the ink this thing runs through!!! I've had it less than three months, and have already had to buy one color cartridge and three black cartridges.
More and more, I wish I'd bought a low-end laser printer. If you don't need the color, that's the way to go. The Laserjet 1012 costs less than $150 and gets an estimated 2000 pages out of every $70 toner cartridge. That's 3.5 cents per page. Estimates I've read for inkjets run around 25 cents per page. And at $80 spent on ink so far, I'm living that dream.
7 An annoying dumbed-down bait and switch...
...but then, you get what you pay for.
No black cartridge, no usb cable. If you buy a black catridge, won't recognise it unless you physically remove the color cartridge ... AND restart windows! And no greyscale! C'mon hp, this last bit is just software; the drivers for your older low end printers supported leaving both cartidges in and using greyscale. With this driver, there's even a combo box for selecting the desired print cartridge configuration...but it's been disabled! Such a naked move to force people to buy more cartridges.
Folk, avoid this one if you can. It's no bargain. Spend a little more money up front and get printer with greyscale, and that includes BOTH a color and a black ink cartridge, AND a USB cable.
8 Not enough information when ordering
If I had realized that this has no black cartridge and cable I would have purchased an upgraded model that did or another brand. It's compact size and price are what I bought and felt that it works well but without a black ink cartridge, you really burn up the color cartridge fast which is more expensive, maybe that was HP's plan?? All in all it's okay but I bought for price and feel mislead.
9 Great little printer
I have just purchased this printer to use with my laptop when I travel. The printer is lightweight and the front door opens up to store the paper tray so that it is easy to bring along.
It does not come with black ink, but does have an open slot for the ink cartridge. The color cartridge that comes with it does a good job at printing black, but this will get expensive over time as you burn it up to print black. It is also lacking a USB cable which is kind of annoying. With the black ink and the USB cable, you can add about 25 dollars to this printer to get the "true" price.
The print quality has been very good and the print speed is quick. I have had no problems at all with this printer.
10 Good printer for home use.
I got this around three months ago. I do not print photos using this printer, but for printing documnets it does a good job. For 40$ its a good investment.
11 cheap price tag is a trick
Low price tag is a trick as (though editorial review states otherwise) package DOES NOT include black cartridge ($19).
You will also need USB cable ($15) - not included.
If you start using this printer without the black, color cartridge will run-out in less than 100 pages, new color cartridge is $21...
Otherwise, only advantage of this printer is it's compact design.
Very slow.
12 What a Surprise!
A printer for $39.00 dollars that prints well. I purchased this printer for one of my clients who wanted to travel with her laptop, but didn't want to part with over 300 smackers for a portable job.
This printer is lightweight, not that big, although it won't fit in her laptop bag, it will fit in a small suitcase. I advised her if she didn't like it; give it to the kids.
For the price, it did the trick. It was faster than I expected and printed better than expected. Since the paper also feeds in on the bottom, no paper jams like top feeders.
Printer only includes a black cartridge. It also uses a color cartridge, but can print with just the black cartridge. Great for printing web pages, kids, and small jobs. Since it connects only with USB, it's not suitable for older machines.

13 Good, cheap, easy to use
I've bought this printer to backup my QMS Laser and for my laptop. It's hard to carry the 80lb. QMS printer with ya, I can tell you that. It was cheap (Wal*Mart around $30-40) but it doesn't come with an USB cable (that's one star down). I haven't had any trouble with it so far. XPs detected it immediately. I have never used any ink printer before, but this one prints perfect. Well, at least good enough for me. Pictures are sharp, colors are bright. B&W print is very fast. I have even tried to print on the Iron-on-Transfer media and it worx great. I have washed the T-shirt 4-5 times already and no problem. I use it every now and then so I don't know how long the cartridges last tho.
14 This one's going back!!
How disappointing! I don't require much from a printer (My main use is making cards for my Grandchildren and printing photos), so I THOUGHT this would be a GREAT bargain! WRONG!! After I FINALY got it to work (somewhat!?), it ate the paper, and if it didn't do THAT, then the paper got JAMMED and had to be pulled out! It also stops printing in the middle of something; The green power button continues flashing; and you're left high and dry as to WHAT to do next! In the span of a Sunday afternoon (which turned out to be ANYTHING but PLEASANT!!), I was able to print out TWO cards! I've owned 2 other printers, and this one is by far the worst! I'm just waiting for the store to open to RETURN IT!
15 Less is More!
I love this printer because of it's ease of use and print quality in relation to the low price. The ink cartridges are easily refilled using the same bulk ink I use to refill my 56 & 57 cartridges. Two minor complaints: no greyscale option for b&w printing and on occasion, when printing cardstock, the paper will misfeed. It works flawlessly with regular paper, though.
I own a vastly more versatile HP 6110 multi-function that is impressive, but the software that came with it doesn't play well with either of my computers. This printer's software is much simpler and crash-free. Ultimately, I often end up using it instead of the 6110 because the software glitches always occur when I don't have the time to play computer technician.
I print business cards, postcards for mass mailings, contracts, photos, you name it. This doesn't do professional quality photos, but not all of us need that function. The photos even are good enough, believe me. The print quality is amazing when all things are considered.
I also liked that this model comes with a 1yr. warranty, vs. 90 days on most cheaper models. You do have to buy a black ink cartridge, but if you refill them like I do it's a minor expense.
Don't let a low price rule this one out!
16 Excellent for the price
Does everything as advertised. I got this to go with my lap top. I use a heavier duty hp on the desktop. Easy to hook up and disconnect. Light enough and simple enough to use so that the wife just loves using it. Great for the price but do not expect it to be the "heavy duty" printer in your life.
17 The Great Price is deceiving...
It doesn't come with a USB cable ($22) or black ink ($18) so don't fool yourself thinking this is a bargain compared to the other ones you are looking at...
18 Easy and convenient
Good enough for school homework and assignments, reasonable size and price and easy to use. The only problem I have is the price of the ink, quite expensive, (...). Over all, I'm happy and satisfied with this printer.
19 ramware
I got this printer from WM. It was easy to setup and worked without any issues. But... it takes forever to print at 2400dpi setting. if you print at 600 X 600 photo then will take around 10 min for 8X10 photo. The ink which came with the printer will print only about 10 8X10 photos. But overall this is ok printer for the price.
