HP Officejet 7110 All-in-One Multifunction

Compras Nikon
Bluetooth
The HP Officejet 7100 all-in-one series delivers fast printing and copying, faxing and outstanding scanning all from one compact product. Print and copy up to 22 pages per minute in laser-quality black and up to 18 in color and get professional photo quality results with up to 4800-optimized dpi (on premium photo papers and 1200 x 1200-input dpi) in color.
1 Ok machine, terrible software and support
HP's OfficeJet 7110 all-in-one looked great initially: a reasonably priced machine that prints in color, scans in color with a sheet feeder, copies, and sends and receives faxes. However, four problems arose in practice. First, color printing is often of poor quality because the colors don't quite line up. The 7110 has a feature to automatically align the colors, but this is a pain to use (it involves many steps that sometimes fail to work so you are led through the cycle several times) and sometimes does not help. Second, Macintosh OS X users may experience software problems. At first I could print sometimes, with reboots often fixing an inability to print, but for months now I have been unable to print at all. (I can print on another printer, so the problem is in the 7110's software.) HP's website acknowledges the problem but apparently does not provide a fix. Third, also on OS X, the scanning software has a bug so black-and-white scans take 8 times as much disk space as they should. Fourth, HP's technical support people invariably made excuses instead of resolving problems or submitting bug reports. For example, they found a brochure saying the 7110 scans in color with no mention of black-and-white, and therefore told me black-and-white scans are not supported, despite that their own software has a black-and-white scan button. Overall, I do not recommend the HP 7110 all-in-one for anyone. Windows users may suffer less than Mac users, as two of the four problems mentioned above may not affect Windows users. And eventually, the HP 7110 may be a better proposition, if HP fixes its software problems and overhauls its customer support. But for now at least, I would look for a maker other than HP.
2 Such poor quality
Purchased 2 of these, for business use and deployment into our CEO's home/office environment, and all looked fined until it came time to test the scanning function and in particular from the ADF which is where the problems started.

The "Director" software just wouldn't work, multiple pages would scan ok as far as previewing them but come the stage you try to save them or send them to Word, up pops an error indicating you need to reinstall the scanning software due to a library not being found.

Using the "Scan to" function on the front panel of the device seemed to fair a little better but soon discovered, on a multiple page scan to Word, only the first page scanned fully and each subsequent page was only partially scanned with the results nicely overlaid on a single page in word just to add to add to the problem.

I attempted to get these issues resolved via emailing HP support over the next two days which is better than hanging on the phone as experienced my many reviewers I guess but the end result was still the same...i.e. no resolution. The support followed the lines of re-installing the software, cleaning out the registry, loading the previous version of the software from the website, updating the print-head firmware (an odd one to fix a scanning issue I know) etc

The machines/software were tested on 2 x WinXP and 1 Win2k platforms and in all cases had the same problems with the scanning function.

All its other functions appeared to be ok but given the problems had these units returned as being not fit for use. Given the other problems people have experienced with different aspects of these machines returning them seems a very wise move.

The other offerings in the HP Multifunction arena also appear to be plagued with problems so be very careful when looking at HP for your chosen solution especially in the inkjet world.

I've since gone for the slightly more expensive Canon MP780 which so far does exactly what you'd expect of these machines and does it very well, no installation issues, software provided is streets ahead of the poor effort released by HP.

So, potentially a good machine at a good price let down by substandard software which just didn't work for me and couldn't be fixed by HP support.

3 Scanner failure
We bought two of these, they are both gathering dust as they both have "Scanner failure" at power on. Even if we don't want to use the scanner we can't print.

I have requested our IT department to avoid HP products where possible as there was no support, and a great raft of stuff on the web about this problem, but no easy solution.

The product is quite useless to us.
4 Do Not Buy!
This machine was issued to me by my company for use at home. I wish I could take it back, but unfortunately I have no choice.

first, this printer uses A LOT of ink. It also shakes wildly when it prints - almost I would invision a cartoon printer to print.

The fax machine has no quickscan feature and the autofeeder has to be babysat each and every fax.

The scanner is alright, but the software is not too user friendly.

Allaround, there are much better products out there. If your company doesn't decide for you, stay away from this one!

5 A problem from the start
I will make this short and not very sweet. Avoid this machine for the following reasons:

Scan never worked

Cannot be fully accessed through network without HP proprietary wireless card.

HP claims that Belkin wifi ports are not compatable with this machine.

Online support is nil

Double feeds pages

6 waste of money
Printheads went bad repeatedly. They replaced the printer for me. This was an entirely new system and it worked for a while and when it was time to replace the ink cartridges the printer would not recognize them. They were the correct ink cartridges. Now the printheads have gone bad again. It has been more than 90 days since I purchased the first one but only 1 month since the replacement arrived and they refuse to warranty it. The system has been down more than up. Find another brand.
7 Doesn't deserve 1 star
I've owned a HP 7110 for over six months. If I could give it a zero (or better yet a -10) I would do so. IT IS JUNK.

Daily problems include:
- Page feeder misses pages. Even with a 2 page document there is about a 60% chance that one won't come out. It's the same problem for printing and faxing, so imagine what a pain it is to fax stuff and then try to refax. (fax 10 pages, miss 4, fax 4, miss 2, fax 2, miss 1)
- Scanner failure. I'm not even sure what that is supposed to mean, but I get that message 1 to 8 times a day and the machine has to be shut down and restarted.

Recurring problems:
- Mysterious power losses. Every week or so it goes off and won't come back on. There is no obvious reason. Unplugging it and plugging it back in seems to be the way to fix it. I've never had equipment so tempermental.
- Ink low messages. Come on HP, it is obvious the cartidges are wired to start signalling low ink after about 30-50% use. It's ridiculous and a nuisance. When then low ink starts coming on, you have to press enter to keep going. Many times I have started a print job, left my desk expecting to come back to a finished document only to find it never started because a low ink message interrupted the job and I have to press enter to continue. There is no point to the low ink messages at all. You just have to print to depletion.

Other dissatisfaction:
- Noisy and shakes a lot.
- Never been able to get a decent document scan. I don't know if it is the machine or the software.
- Does not collate print jobs. That was a shock. It seems from the instruction manual that some models may have the function, mine doesn't. Sellers do a real injustice to their customers when they sell these without a big red sticker saying "DOES NOT COLLATE."
- Fax reports are unreliable. You can't depend on these to know whether a document or any part of it went through at all.

HP should recall these machines, refund our money or give us something solid and dependable. Until that happens, I won't buy another HP product.
8 Mac Users Beware!
Okay. I've had this massive grey thing to the left of my desk for 7 months now. This is what I've learned.

1) It does make nice copies. It does make nice faxes. The scanner is pretty good.
2) It likes power. Do not plug this thing into a power strip. Plug it into it's own outlet. Why? I don't know. After 5 months, it suddenly didn't want to print in black. I ran through a few ink cartridges, talked to cust. service for a while, and finally they told me to plug it directly into the wall. Done. No problems.
3) It doesn't like or recognize or print from any Macintosh programs that operate pre-OSX. Oh, the HP website does give you some handy fun tips that you can use to get around this problem. But they're incredibly complicated and even by their own admission, the machine will lose it's ability to scan. Huh? However, I do have an old version of Photoshop and it reads the scans just fine. I just can't print from that same version of Photoshop.
4) On a lighter note, but important to some: it will make noises every now and then even when not in operation. If you leave it on overnight, it will grind its gears on occasion, and pretty loudly too, just to freak you out.

I've had this machine less than a year now. I'm morbidly curious now to see if it breaks down after the warranty has run out. Wish me luck.
9 Bye Bye HP!
This is my third hp multifunction. From day 1, I have not been able to copy or scan. Tech support said it was because the power was routed through a power strip, so we installed an outlet dedicated for it. Still did not work. I tried their next suggestion to reprogram the printer; still didn't work. I bought the multi-sided printing attachment soon after I purchased the printer; it never worked. Here I sit today at 5 AM with a (just shy of) 14-month-old printer that will not power on. As far as I am concerned, this has been a total waste of $300 + $100 for the attachment. Tech support's resolution? Send it back 1) at my cost; 2) be without a printer; 3) for an indefinite period of time; and then 4) pay for the repairs since it is newly out of warranty. Wait a second! That's not what I paid all that money for!

I have loved hp until this printer. Beyond the exceptional print quality, the one feature that has kept me coming back to hp is their OCR software and the ability to scan printed material and edit the text. Their G-series multifunctions were true workhorses with outstanding scan and print quality.

Not this time! If I have to buy a new printer 3 days before Christmas, I'm looking at a Cannon. Bye-bye hp. Anyone want to join me for a burial of an hp Officejet 7110? Just joking....

10 Don't buy HP
This all in one in particular was a complete disaster. Form the get go I had problems with it. If the power fails, you have to reboot the machine, then it does an ink test when you reboot it. I could not find an option to turn this off. If you run out of color, you can't print black and white, not even if you set the print to grayscale. Don't try tech support, you can't understand them, they can't understand you, when the language barrier is finally cleared enough for you to start troubleshooting, they don't know what the problem is or it is your PC's fault. After 14 months, it finally died on me. Oddly enough when the warranty had just run out. A great excuse to purchase a new one. I believe HP is running a scam on these ink cartridges. They are the most expensive and last the least amount of time. I don't know where all of this ink goes, but it makes my wallet shrink far too often. I now have a Lexmark all in one and it seems like the ink has already lasted twice as long and I still have about 1/3 of my ink left!!! No more headaches and I don't need to keep a bunch of spare ink catridges.
11 Horrible software/printer
I have had so many problems with this piece of garbage. After much effort, I finally got the printer working with the 3 computers in my home (2 PC, 1 Mac). I had to change the password on my network, so I updated all the machines, including the printer. Now the Mac works, but I have not been able to get the Windows machines to recognize the printer. A couple months later, my Mac can't find the printer either! Nothing has changed on my network in these last couple months. And I don't have time to spend another 6 hours trying to debug this thing again.

It appears that HP has seriously lost their mojo in printers, which used to be their strong suit. This printer is the biggest piece of junk since the last HP printer I returned.

Never again, HP. Thanks for nothing...
12 What a headache
This product has been totally unreliable. 7 months into my first unit, the message screen began reading "Scanner failure" for no reason at all, and the unit would cease to function completely. After far too many hours on the phone with tech support, they concluded the unit was faulty, and agreed to send me a new unit. The second unit (the replacement unit) was horrible too. It would not recognize that it had full ink cartridges in it and so would not print. That went back to HP after two days. The third unit, within one week of receipt, began having problems. Again, after hours and hours of tech support, the problem has not been resolved. This time, the unit is pulling page after page of blank paper, refusing to print, fax or scan, at random times. The readout says "paper jam" but there is no paper jam. So, I am trying to get them to send me a fourth unit, to replace this one. I will never buy from HP again. There are far superior products on the market, I am sure of it. What a headache.
13 This machine is horrible!!!
I have never had a problem with any HP products in the past but to my surprise this machine is the worst printer/fax machine I have ever had.

I can never get the automatic document feeder to just take one page. It always wants to pull in at least two to three pages. I have cleaned it, blew air into it, and even replaced the feeder per HP suggestion and still doesn't work.

To make matter worse, even if I do get the machine to take one page at a time, it will not send all the pages for a fax. It always seems to leave off one of the middle pages. This is really puzzling because all the pages scanned.

Now the clencher on this is that everytime I call to try to get some support help I talk to someone in India whom I barely understand and I don't feel like they understand or appreciate my problem. (I do not believe in outsourcing American jobs by the way.)

After talking to some of our clients, they have mentioned that they too are also having problems with this model. As of now, I am requesting my money back. I'll wait and see what happens....
14 INK CARTRIDGE SCAM BY HP
This unit looks good in the box but when it comes to performance forget about it. The ink cartridges expire by date and not on the amount of ink you use. HP should be in a law suit over the message that pops up saying "Color ink empty" or "Black ink empty" when the ink cartridge is full. And if the Color cartridge is empty it will no longer make Black and White copies. How is that for customer satisfaction. No more HP products for me.
15 Perfect all-in-one
I have had mine for a while and it is perfect. The HP 7110 can FAX/ Print/ Scan, and as such is a great all rounder. I have had now problems with it connecting to Mac or XP PC. Even better I have discovered it is Rendezvous compatible (now) with my Airport Express network. I don't have a word to say against this all-in-one, now a solid old work horse.
16 Good home machine
I got a very good deal on a 7110 at one of those day-after-Thanksgiving sales. Though I am nervous about devices packed so full of technology which can easily go wrong, I've been happy with it so far (9 months). Photo print quality is good and it's very convenient to use for standalone faxing & copying. Scanning is easy and adequate for my needs. Haven't noticed the shaking that others have mentioned but it's on a heavy, stable stand. It does double-feed or jam on occasion but not very often.

17 Not for Windows Server 2003
As Technology Coordinator in a small office, I chose this machine when our OfficeJet R80 began to malfunction. The 7110 has good print quality and its quick speed makes the shaking excusable. We did have some pretty serious FAX errors that required quite a bit of phone time to correct. The documentation concerning error messages is poor, at best. Finally, though this won't be a problem for most people, we have it hooked to a machine running Windows Server 2003 and (as of this writing) HP still doesn't provide the proper drivers to make the scanner portion usable.
18 Problems From Beginning Seem to be Fixed
I have never spent so much time with reps (In India no less) in trying to figure out problems. They sent me black & white new cartridge..that didn't help (I had brownish red print all the time.) Then another rep said it was the color cartridge an sent me one of those, THAT didn't work. Finally they sent me a new machine, sans the top which they said to keep and install on the new "bottom." Then, although all copies went through & the confirmation said they all went, the receivers kept telling me that they didn't get all copies. HP then sent me a new top, so virtually, my entire machine (except prints heads) were replaced. Now all seems to be OK. Good point - You can print on "fast" although the colors are faded when you use these method of copying. Reps were very nice but spent much too much valuable time on the phone with them.
19 cheap and good
Though I got a deal on mine elsewhere.. I just want to mention that it's important to follow the directions. This thing has *separate* print heads from the ink and if you don't install them properly, you can really damage it (like I did with my first Epson.) My father started to set this up (not bothering with the directions,) and almost did just that. This is a change in HP's part, as they usually build the print heads into the ink cartridges. This does save the user $$, but you have to be careful during installation. I had an error during install because I have Microsoft Java instead of Sun Java (or vice-versa?,) but it doesn't matter. It just let me hit "ok" and yeah I don't have the old java. It's very clearly explained on HP's site (under drivers -> HP 7110 -> Support, whatever.) It's for a web-based scanning feature, if you should really want to do that (?)
20 Piece of [junk]
Apparently there is no bottom for HP poor quality.
No wonder Fiorina is so big fan of outsourcing.
Anyway, I bought my OfficeJet 7110 from Costco. Excellent price and good looking printer. Saved a lot of spave on my desk.
The printer didn't work. I've got "Carriage Error" no matter what I did. ...
21 Over rated Junk
Piece of junk. Returned it. Paper feeder mechanism does not work for any thing less than 4 papers-at-a-time. Carla Fiorina should be proud of this.
22 Best Multifunction Around!
I must say I agree with some people about this machine, it does have some issues like the size is big and it does shake some while printing but for the most part this is the best machine I have ever owned. Reguardless of what was said previous it does work in Adobe PhotoShop CS which I use. When you load the drivers it installs a twain driver which does come up in PhotoShop. The color is the best I have seen and very crisp and clean. When you open the cover you can tell this is built much more solidly than almost any office machine available. The cartridges are faily inexpensive for ink jets. You can print on many different paper sizes another critizism is the tricolor cartridge. It would be much better with separate cartridges also you have to be careful about the color cartridge, when you print in greyscale it still uses color ink so it can go fast if you are not careful. I wish HP would only use black ink in greyscale but thats where alot of their money comes from I am sure. When you consider the faxing, scanning, quality printing, and copying all from your home office this printer is top notch.
23 Worst All-In-One Ever
I purchased this machine in August along with an overnight replacement warranty (thank goodness). Since August I have had 3 different machines. Each one malfunctioned. (1) The automatic feeder did not work properly and the paper jammed. HP replaced the machine. (2) The print head connection was not making contact and the machine would not detect the print cartridges. HP replaced that machine. (3) It would only print in red and blue because the print cartridges were improperly distribting the ink. In addition, each time I replaced the machine I had to uninstall and reinstall the software, which should not have been necessary. Not to mention the hours spent on the phone with HP service and my IT person trying to get the machines to function properly. In one week I had two replacements. It is also noisy and slow. I begged my salesperson to take it back, which he did and I was happy to see it go.
24 Excellent All Rounder
Get it out the box follow a few simple instructions and you have a full suite of office machines up and running in minutes and in one unit. Print quality is every bit as good as photo printing machines and pretty fast. Scan and copy images are very sharp, the scan runs with the supplied software, Windows XP and my MGI photosuite without a hitch. The fax capability is excellent with a 100 page memory and the capability to work from the PC, Flatbed or Sheetfeed as you wish. I particularly like the stand alone capability for faxing and the Flatbed being big enough to handle legal size documents.

My only argument with the maufacturers claims is with the word compact package. While certainly smaller than the components parts represented by individual machines this is a big and heavy all in one machine. Having said that it feels far more solid and durable than many competing units, in the long run that should be a plus if you are buying the unit for a business.

Several reviewers have complained about shake and noise from the 7110, I have not experienced this at all, maybe the stability of the platform it is placed on affects vibration and noise.

All in all I could not be happier with my 7110, if you have a small business it is a great buy.

25 Does what it says.
Just recently bought a competitive product, i.e. scanner copier and printer. I returned it the same day and bought the HP 7110. Happier than a clam. I've always had HP, but for the last few years, now I'm back. This is a great product. It's classic HP quality, (Weighs a ton) but has the quality in printing, scanning and copying. Even the Fax is simple to use. I like the stand alone fax and copy capabilities, makes life easier in the home office world. I use the machine for a combination of home office activity and personal use. I just scanned in a picture at the highest resolution and printed it at the same on HP photo paper. I'm hard pressed to find the difference in the scanned copy. If you have a home office or a small business buy this machine. You'll be happy you did. Don't waste your time with other equipment. CEO Carey Fiorina has done it again.
26 People who send junk FAX love this machine
If you leave this machine unattended for a few days, you might come back to find that the memory is loaded with unwanted, junk FAXes that can ONLY be deleted by printing them. Hitting the stop button or even unplugging the machine will NOT erase the memory. In the day and age when junk FAXes are so prolific, one would think HP would have the foresight to offer a solution. (Keeping the machine connected to a computer and previewing every FAX is not a reasonable solution.)
27 Nice, within reason
upgraded from an Officejet K80 because I often need to photocopy tiny things such as receipts, and the price for the 7110 on Amazon is really good. If I were a little more motivated, I might return this printer, as it does indeed shake like a jet taking off, but the print/copy quality is excellent, it accepts just about any size paper you will work with in a regular office, and so I'll live with it as it is. The fax function is just fine; I wish these printer manufacturers would include a feature called "no incoming fax," which describes my office (I receive fax by e-mail, getting around the whole second-line issue very nimbly), but it's easy enough to outfox incoming fax by setting it to ring sounds your phone doesn't make. IThe scanning function is so-so, but then, that's an auxiliary function for me, so it's more than good enough.

HP, please make the "Enter" button another color and shape. It's mixed in with many other functions (at least on the K80 it was at the end of a row of buttons), and it's really hard to see.

Be warned: this is a VERY large machine. I put it on its own table where it can shimmy through its print jobs without making my teeth chatter.

28 Don't buy it if you have more sophisticated graphics needs
Here's what's good about this machine: easy to set up, legal-sized flatbed scanner, nice LCD display, great fax operation.

Here's what's not so good: not actually that fast, verrrrry noisy and can shake your entire desk, and, most importantly, the scanner is NOT COMPATIBLE WITH ADOBE PHOTOSHOP. If you use this program, this scanner is completely useless. I wish I'd known that before I bought it and set it up. Luckily, the store I bought it from had a 14 day return policy. I am now happily using a Canon Multipass MP730 (same price) with much better results, including much better printing quality.

29 Very impressive
I got this all-in-one more for its text printing, scanning, copying and faxing capabilities. So I really did not expect that much from its photo printing capabilities. (I don't even have a digital camera.) I must say that after dabbling in some photo printing from some pictures I scanned and from some picture files I have been emailed I am very impressed. The pictures are very life-like and vivid. The text printing even at draft mode is very acceptable. The unit is very easy to set up as well. The automatic document feeder is a great convenience. All-in-all, this all-in-one has been terrific.

I have only had it for a few days so I cannot give it a 5 star rating yet. So far my only criticism of it is that it is rather noisy and busy doing stuff even while it is not in use.

30 Easy & Functional
I didn't give it a five becaue I haven't had it long enough. Easy set up..great paper feed..did stach of 50 for copying and no paper sticking together. Prints nicely etc.

Quote of the Day:

For your penance, say five Hail Marys and one loud BLAH!

Nasrudin called at a large house to collect for charity. The servant said
"My master is out." Nasrudin replied, "Tell your master that next time he
goes out, he should not leave his face at the window. Someone might steal it."
