HP PS320 2 MP Digital Camera

Compras Nikon
Bluetooth
Enjoy solid performance with the easy-to-use HP Photosmart 320 digital camera, featuring 2.1-megapixel resolution--for quality prints up to 8 by 10 inches--and a 4x digital zoom. And with the HP Instant Share feature, you can select up to 14 destinations to deliver your digital photos the next time you connect to your computer, including e-mail addresses, printers, and more.

Optics and Resolution
Featuring a CCD sensor with 2.1 million effective pixels, the Photosmart 320 creates images up to 1,600 x 1,200 pixels and prints up to 8 by 10 inches. Like with many other entry-level digital models, HP keeps the price low by using a focus-free lens with no optical zoom. A 4x digital zoom does bring your shooting subject closer like an optical zoom, but at the expense of image detail.

Storage and Transfer
Store photos using the 8 MB internal memory. The Photosmart 320 also features a Secure Digital slot for optional SD memory cards.

Movie Mode
In addition to taking still photos, the Photosmart 320 can also record silent-movie clips of up to 30 seconds at a frame rate of 15 fps. The QuickTime Motion JPEG format offers a limited resolution, which is great for capturing a short movie that can be e-mailed to friends and family, but is no replacement for a true camcorder.

More Features
With the optional HP Photosmart 8881 digital camera dock (which includes 4 rechargeable NiMH batteries), you can connect easily to your PC or TV, plus recharge your camera batteries. This version of the Photosmart 320 includes the camera dock.

You can easily print photos directly from your camera to an optional HP Photosmart, HP PSC 950 all in one, or HP Deskjet (excludes 600 series) printer with USB connectivity--no PC required.

Other features include:

Power, Size, and Contents
The camera is powered by four standard AA batteries. We recommend a set of rechargeable NiMH batteries. It measures 4.4 by 1.7 by 2.7 inches and weighs 5.6 ounces. This package includes the Photosmart 320 digital camera, four AA alkaline batteries, USB cable, hand strap, and a CD-ROM with HP Photo & Imaging software and USB drivers for Windows and Mac.

1 Awesome Camera
This is an Awesome camera. I tried the equivalent Vivitar Camera, it was horibble! This little camera blows it away. I also bought rechargable batteris(a must have), a 64 MB SD Card (also must have)and I bought a HP Photosmart 435 photoprinter. The printer is awesome and together it prints out beautiful pixs! I would highly recommend this to anybody!! :)
2 Excellent Choice
I recently received this camera with the HP printer bundle for my birthay. Both work wonderfully. They are so easy to use and are great for taking just basic pictures. The price was very affordable as well.
3 HP PS320 Teenage Review
After having this camera for about a week i'm throughly pleased. I had previously had a cheap $20 camera with .3mp resolution. I immediatly found the difference amazing. The price was just right for the HP PS320 (i had bought it in a bundle with printer and memory card). I had been researching for about a month, and finally decided to buy the Kodak ES4530 but realized that I didn't even need a 5mp if I only wanted to get 4" by 6" pictures. The screen is kinda fuzzy and takes a while to take the next picture, but that is liveable. Also the screen is incredebly easy to use, it took a while to figure out how to delete. Now that i found out that the delete button is not directly on the camera but in menu mode I feel safer that my pictures will not be deleted. When you get the camera, don't forget extra memory. The camera only has about 8 pictures with the internal memory; but with a SD64 card you can take about 64 pictures at highest resolution. Since I am in high school mostly this camera was to take pictures of my friends and it has worked very well for this task. One problem is that when I upload the pictures to my website they turned out VERY blurry. Another complaint is that the software would not load onto my computer. Luckily my computer is also a HP so it recognized the model and I found an old program that lets me upload pictures. Over all this is a great camera. I've tried to work other camera's that my friends have, but they are to complicated. Just some things to remember to get
-extra memory (YOU WILL NEED IT!!!!!!)
-photo printer (the prints come out better than the disposable photos and is great for you money)
-BATTERIES!! (after A DAY AND A HALF!!! my battereies were gone! I did take alot of pictures but that seems to short of a life for the batteries.)
4 Good, inexpensive choice.
This camera does a good job for the money. The pictures are plenty clear to print unless you want to enlarge. The zoom is somewhat annoying since it puts a box around a piece of the picture in the viewer rather than erasing the part you won't see. This leaves you to imagine what the picture will look like once the outside of the box is cut off. Other than that, this camera has worked well during heavy use.
5 Don't bother!
I bought this camera for E-Bay listings, and I am greatly disappointed. If you have to take a picture of anything closer than three feet away, forget about it. For close-ups, the manual (and HP) recommends using the zoom feature and cropping with the included photo program. Trouble is, the zoom looses so much detail, the close-up is a waste. I have an old I/O 420 that blows this camera away, and it's ancient technology now. Regular outdoor pictures are ok, but why bother if that's the only thing you can use it for? I'm also in the process of finding out why Amazon.com only refunded 1/2 of the purchase price when I returned the thing after two weeks for a refund. My recommendation is to spend an extra $30 to by the Olympus D-390 at chiefvalue.com It's a vastly superior camera in every respect, for just a little more money.
6 Accessories Caution
I just started playing with my new camera. I notice the batteries don't last very long, especially when doing many functions. I started to price the AC Adapter (HP $49.99) and found that most on eBay are generic multi voltage units (around $30). Then while looking at the HP Photosmart 8881 Camera Dock (HP $79.99) I noticed that it too included a AC Adapter. I called HP and found out that it is the identical adapter that will hook directly to the camera. So I was able to get the HP Adapter AND the Docking Station for just a little more than the generic adapter alone.
7 Good Camera but expect Secure Digital Card Problems
Camera is great for the price and I was happy to got this with the camera starter pack. But I was disappointed about small scratches on the brand new camera case, probably poor manufacturing. Also if you intend to use a 64MB or 128MB secure digital card with this camera don't be suprised to get errors. The manual tells that the camera works with secure digital cards up to 128MB but that is not true. Many people are even having problems with their 64MB cards. A firmware update at hp.com is needed to solve this issue. But if you have a 64 or 128MB card, then you have to go buy another smaller size card, a 16MB or 32MB for the firmware to be installed. I don't understand why the firmware dated back October 2002 is not installed on a camera sold on September 2003.
8 not bad
camera doesn't like 128mb secure digital cards. it just won't read or write to them. the current firmware that ships with this camera needs to be upgraded by the buyer with a sd card that is under 64 mb. also, the picture quality is OK, but not even close to the clarity of canons in the 2 megapixel range. printing out on 4x6 is fine though. small lcd screen! but battery life is good.
9 Wow! Great camera at an Amazoning price :-)
Bought this camera for 97.00 with a free starter kit! what a deal pic's are great to send on the internet or to just make prints and so easy to use. Thanks Amazon!
10 Solid Performer And A Great Value!
This HP 320 2.1 MP camera is rock solid and takes great pictures. 2 MP is totally adequate for typical picture taking. Very few people blow up there photos beyond 8.5" X 11". An optical zoom (digital zoom decreases resolution) would be nice, but more than doubles/triples the price. Instead, the operator just needs to move forward or backwards to get the proper framing.

I purchased this camera on sale with the free accessory kit (case, NiMH batteries and charger) for fewer than 100 clams here on Amazon. I also picked up a new HP 8881 docking station on ebay for 30 clams and a 128MB-memory card for 35 clams (after rebate) at Dell. So, you can get into great digital for not a lot of money.

This camera is an outstanding value and a rock solid performer. I highly recommend it for people who want to take great pictures without the added cost of advanced features. All you need is the camera initially to get started. From there you can decide if you want to add more accessories.

PS TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THE FREE ACCESSORY KIT OFFER, YOU WILL NOT FIND ANYTHING CLOSE TO THIS VALUE AT THE TIME OF THIS POSTING! THIS IS A HIGH QUALITY HP PRODUCT!

UPDATE- I did have to upgrade my camera's firmware to support the 128MB SD-RAM cards. HP sent me a free 16MB SD-RAM card for the upgrade process (you need a SD-RAM card to facilitate the procedure). The process worked well and I'm now enjoying my fully functional 128MB card!

11 Ripp off
If you need blurred pictures, and very slugish response from a camera...this camera is perfect for you!

you'll need lots of batteries too the LCD eats all your power up quick.

12 HP
Just bought one of these and I know they are very good. In my 20+ yrs in technology I've never seen an HP product that wasn't worth the price and competitive. I wouln't say HP makes the best stuff but I wouldn't argue with anyone who did. The remarks from folks critical of HP are silly. If you have trouble getting a strap attached;read the book. Page 11. The person who thinks HP only makes printers needs a reality check. They make alot of other things including high technology equipment that he probably couldn't even pronounce. Nope, I'm not associated with HP in any way. Never have been. I just know from experience it's an excellent company that makes excellent stuff and they've been doing for a very long time.
13 Awesome Digicam
I got this Digicam for my birthday. As soon as I pluged it in I was blown away at how easy it was to get the pictures on the computer. Then when I looked at my images I had taken, oh my gosh!!!! They were awesome!! I also love the HP Instant Share. I makes e-mailing the pictures a snap. I would really reccommend this camera to absoulutly anyone!!
14 Excellent - Easy to Use Digital Camera
The HP PS320 Digital Camera is a solid performer. It is easy to use and delivers great results. I really like the Instant Share capabilities on this unit. This is a very good, inexpensive, easy to use product giving great results.
15 Awesome Camera
This camera is an awesome camera. It takes breathtaking pictures in 2.1 MP resolution that can be printed up to 8x10. It has brilliant colors. I had originally bought a Vivitar Vivicam 3625. I hated it. I took it back and bought this miracle. I would recommend this camera to anyone who wants a digital camera!
16 Great Value!
This is the perfect Digital Camera for someone who wants the ease of point & shoot but needs the editing/preview capabilities of a digital unit.

Great starter digital camera.

17 Good entry level for the price
LCD is dark and not too clear but pics do turn out excellent displayed on PC or once printed (this depends obviously on your printer as well). No optical zoom but digital is zoom is very good. No sound for movies but it is very nice and length depends on your storage media size. Comes with 4 Energizer E2 batteries which have amazing battery life. I'm still using them after > 80 shots and 4 weeks. If you get low battery indicator turn the camera off, wait awhile (couple seconds to 1 minute) and turn on again and you're good to go. This is apparently a little trick with Photo Lithium batteries, they need a rest. Major problem is that the battery compartment is too easily opened. Several times I've accidentally opened it. It's also not meant to take night shots where the subject is > 6 feet.

It's about the size of a medium sized palm but does fit nicely in my hand. Simple and easy uploading to PC. Camera use is so simple you won't even need the manual. It's an entry level so there's no advanced controls. Simple point and shoot camera for the entry level masses. Considering the low price and the intended market it's a good buy.

18 Good camera for its price
In general this camera is very good. It's a bit big and kind of ugly, but the picture quality is good and it is easy to use. I do not use anything but the highest resolution because that is the only way to get real looking pictures. I strongly recommend getting a memory card because otherwise the camera will only take 8 pictures. The program that comes with the camera is basic but good. I particularly like that that the program allows you to make slide-show DVD's of the pictures that are on your computer. I struggled putting the wrist strap on; the best way to go about that is to use a paper clip. The only other disadvantage of this camera is that it takes four AA batteries and uses them up quickly. I recommend either using lithium batteries because they are lightweight and last longer or rechargeable batteries.
19 HP is an excellent company for printers....
Buy this camera and you'll be sorry.
HP is in the wrong business making cameras. they should stay focused on printers, their forte.
20 Excellent camera for the price!
I looked up this camera here and all I can say is the guy who put up one star because he couldn't get the wrist strap on has skewed the stars unfairly. I don't know about you but I buy a camera for what it can do, not for the wrist strap! (I got mine on with some patience)

The camera out of the box worked great, took great pics and I can hook it right up to my HP printer and printe directly from camera to printer - no computer needed!

I got mine elsewhere (won't say where -...).

21 wrist strap is useless
the camera works OK. The wrist strap is impossible to put on. I need it since many users need this on the go and it would save the camera from dropping.

The wrist strap was so frustrating, that we wanted to throw it out the window.
There is also no case.

Can't really recommend it since it gave us so much initial frustrations.

22 The best value camera ever!
My goal was to get a digital camera for under $. I tried the equivalent model Vivitar, and Kodak, and finally settled on this HP. For all the features I wanted, and all the hassle I didn't,this camera is the best of all worlds.

To start with, I wanted SD/MMC as my memory medium. I own a Palm m125, and it also takes SD, so the memory could be interchangeable. I wasn't too concerned with the megapixels, since most of what I use the shots for is web applications, but 2MP made the pictures look nice, even when printed to 4" X 6".

The movie feature is great, and with minimal effort you can burn your movies to a CD-RW and watch them on your dvd player, if your dvd player will show VCD. It's great for us, because my husband does medieval re-enactment, and the movies are neat to show people what he does in motion, instead of just poses.

This camera also has direct print and email capabilities. I've not used them as of yet, but the gist is that when you take a pic that you can queue it to send email to so-and-so, or print copies of this particular print when you plug it in.

The zoom works well, although I wish it was an optical zoom. I feel like I traded the coolness of the movie mode for any optical zoom, and I'm fine with that.

The usability of the camera is awesome. The buttons on the camera are kept to a minimum, and most actions use menus. This makes it easy to learn how to use all the features, I tought my technology-deficient husband how to use it in minutes.

It integrates seamlessly with my Windows XP Home. I plugged in the camera and the PC recognized it immediately (even to the model number) and led me through the options of how to upload.

Altogether, for someone on a budget, this camera is a great buy.

23 excellent colours
Absolutely no problem with my Dell Latitude CPx model. take the snaps and transfer in seconds. it may not be very very good from pixel point of view but still it's good enough. The best thing about the snaps are the colours. It's amazing. true natural colours. ...what more you can ask for....
24 The only company which now charges for driver downloads
Too many cons, so few pros:
1) Very slow "bootup"
2) You cannot take photos from a moving car. It complains that that image has to stabilize. (I want to take a picture when Iam ready, not when the camera thinks Iam ready)
3) No lens cover
4) Very bad at handling low-light conditions
5) Lastly, and most importantly, HP is now charging for their drivers. ... I think this is outrageous. I can only hope other companies dont follow this example.

Trust me, you can find a better product for the same price.

26 HP320
Camera link to computer will not work on Dell computers due to problems with Dell's USB port - port lacks adequate power and you cannot down load pictures from this camera to a Dell computer - see HP online help for further details.
27 Don't Buy This Camera!!!
You can't download pictures from this camera if you have a Dell Computer. Dell USB port is not suitable for this camera and link from camera to computer does not work. There are also problems with Windows XP and the HP software. LCD screen is very small and images are blurred. Camera also uses a lot of batteries - I intend to return this camera and buy a Sony. HP was no help - tech support is terrible!!! They couldn't care less.
28 Great camera
This camera is good. The picture quality is brilliant, although it occasionally needs despeckleing. Buy it with at least a 32mb SD card so you can store plenty of medium quality shots. You can usually get good deals in bundles, so check. It's mechanisms are reliable and you can unload your pictures seamlessly. The wrist strap is, however, a bit difficult to attach.
29 Great little digital camera!
I got this camera for my 13 year old daughter for Christmas and I am simply amazed by the quality of pictures she takes with it! It was only a little more expensive than a cheap 35mm film camera but I figured the extra cost of film for the 35mm cam might outweigh the additional up front cost of the digital. What an understimation on my part! My daughter has taken at least five hundred pictures already with this little wonder and is still going strong!
The flash has proven to be strong enough for almost every shot and it does a pretty good job reducing or eliminating red eye most of the time. (When it doesn't work we use i-photo on the Mac to remove the red eye) While the flash is not perfect, it's more than adequate for most shots.
The original alk. batteries lasted through probably the first 200 photo's or so and we got another 100 out of them after a re-charge. It's on the second set of 4 now so the camera doesn't seem to go through them quite as quickly as other reviewers have stated with other models of cameras.
The camera uses a "star rating system" for its three levels of photo quality. One star for "economy", two for "good" and three for "fine". Rotating through the choices is very easily accomplished by pushing the star button on the camera back.
The display on the back of the camera is not very big and is a little on the dark side but the nice thing is that the actual photo's always look far better than what you saw in the display. The fact that it has an SD (Secure Digital) media slot is probably the reason I initially chose this particular camera. My Panasonic DV cam also uses SD cards for its built in still camera. Getting this HP with SD capability means I don't have competing digital media with different media readers around the house. It also meant that I could give my no-longer-used 16MB card to my daughter and did not have to buy another one for her!
The camera also can take "movies" of limited length...maybe 20 seconds or so. I don't find this feature to be too useful though since no sound gets recorded. I suppose it could be used to capture a specific moment that might happen too fast to catch with a still photo but you'd have to use some software to select out the frame you wanted. While not a bad thing, it's just not a feature that played into my purchase decision.
2.0MP resolution was impressive just a short time ago on high-end cameras and it is still very good for digital albums or sharing photo's via email.
If you're a "pro" or a "pro-am" at photography, pass this one up and spend the $$ for a 4MP+ camera that has interchangeable lenses etc.
If you're looking for a very easy to use, relatively in expensive point and shoot digital camera that takes impressive pic's you will probably be happy with this one.
30 this camera is a ....
On the surface, you'd think this would be a great camera. 2.1 MP, takes SD cards and has a great price when compared to other 2.x MP cameras. The problem is it takes fairly poor quality pictures and handles low light senarios poorly. Ontop of that (a minor irritant) it is impossible to attach the strap. I tried for about and hour and then gave up.

Previously I had borrowed a Sony. DSC-P51 from a friend to test and was quite happy with it. Stay away from this one. It's dud.

31 Great camera for fun pics
I've had this camera for about two weeks now and I love it. The picture quality is super and it is so easy to use. There is virtually no need to even read the user manual. Just throw in the batteries, turn it on, and start snapping pics. The included software is simply to use and install. It makes downloading the pics onto your compuster a snap. All in all, this camera is a great little camera for fun, casual pics.
32 Well designed system - Even my parents love it
Received an email from my dad with great pictures he just took with the HP PS320. That's a great sign considering he doesn't know what a URL is.
33 Great value for the price
This is a great 2.0 megapix range camera in a lower price range and a snap to use. This camera is a upgrade from the 318 model.

Pros:
Great features and quality for the price range these camera's are selling at:
-2.1 megapix with good quality shots
-8 MB internal memory - with option to add more
-4X digital zoom
-can store up to 30 secs of live motion shots
-can purchase a optional docking station which includes
rechargable batteries and adds the ability to view pics on a TV
- auto red eye reduction and lighting adjustments
- If you want more memory, recharable batteries, ablitity to view on TV ,you can up-grade/purchase it later instead of buying it upfront, which is one reason this camera nicely priced.

Cons:
- if you use the best picture quality mode, the camera only holds 7 shots- but you can purchase a extra memory card to store more and they not too expensive. The built in memory can hold around 80 shots using the other picture quality modes
- can eat up batteries if you keep the LCD display on alot
- Does not have any optical zoom. The 4x digital zoom is pretty good though. Optical zoom tends to be more sharp and less pixel distortions (though optical zoom tends to be more costly and found more in the higher priced camera's)

Summary: If you want at least a 2.0 megapixel quality camera with quality features without going overboard on the price, this camera is for you. This camera isn't the best at taking shots with low light but if your looking for that you really should be looking at the higher price range digital camera's.
