1 My HP1210 printer experience
Wanting a multifunction printer that was reasonally priced with photo quality features at the hundred dollar budget price cap I had at the time, led me to the 1210. Having done a web search on this printer yielded very little info to make a confident purchase decision, I went ahead and bought it at retail sale price. I was not dissapointed at the print quality, which is quite good when print is at best setting, with glossy type photo paper used. Although print speed at these settings could reach about 3 minutes for a full page printout, I can tolerate this but others may not. Now for the really good stuff. I have had this baby for about a year now, having already replaced the black print cartridge once but still using the tri-color cart. Sure the thoughtful software kindly reminded me 6 months ago that I should replace it, but ignored it and it still is going.
I mostly print out playlists, and regularly printout full color images that don't always take more than half page, and for most non photo printouts I engage FASTDRAFT mode, which is fast and uses a lot less color ink. Being dilligent about using FASTMODE I believe is the reason the ink has lasted so long because the printer defaults to NORMAL print mode after every print job. I think it is amazing the tricolor ink cart has lasted me this long, although I sense it going out any day now. Other than not having any photocard slots, this is a very nice second printer. And lastly, use your own judgement as to when to replace the ink.
2 Slightly better than adequate
I've now had this printer for almost six months. It is not the main printer in my home, but it gets a fair amount of use. The copying function works very well. Scanning is a little too complicated, but also works well. Where the printer falls down is in paperfeed during printing. It will often (but inconsistently) grab too much paper and jam. This makes the machine very unreliable for large printing jobs when one might walk away from the printer, and irritating for shorter jobs that require a lot of refeeding to get one or two good pages out.
This does not happen often enough that I would advise somone not to buy the machine, but it does often enough that I would consider, if there is a better model, spending a bit more for something more reliable.
3 Pretty nice little all in one!
I purchased this printer mainly for the copier as I greatly needed this function at home. Much to my delight, it also made very nice lab quality borderless 4x6 prints using the HP 4x6 photo paper with just the tri-color cartridge supplied! I have switched out trying the HP photo cartridge, which was even better w/my prints but not necessarily needed to get nice prints.
I can use other photo papers besides HP but you'll have to experiment to find out what is to your liking with the different papers. Not all papers reacted well with the HP ink and some of the other brand papers simply made the prints look "flat" while HP and Office Depot store brand photos papers worked very well for me.
I had absolutely no trouble installing this printer -- nor using it and the paper feeds very well, including the 4x6 photo stock. Just move the "arm" over to hold that size.
This printer has PictBridge which works beautifully, was very easy and a joy to use! It allowed me to print borderless 4x6 photos, crop, rotate and make adjustments. I have printed close to 40 borderless photo's so far, made lots of color copies, printed scans and still have a good amount of ink left in the cartridges that came with the printer.
I find that I need to use the color button for most of my copying needs. When I copy using the B/W command when there is anything more than text to copy, it will not look as nice as a copy using the color command, but that may not matter to you depending on what is being copied.
So far, I have not experienced any "cutting off" problems when copying. I find the color copies to be very good. I don't care as much to copy glossy photo's, they were okay on photo paper but then I would not want to use this printer strictly to copy nice photo's although I found that matte photo paper was more forgiving of that and compensated when making just photo copies of actual photo's. If I copied from a glossy 4x6 onto glossy photo paper, and even when I tried this on the demo's in store of same and higher quality models as well as different brand of all in one's that the copy just never was as nice as the original. This printer is a slow but print speed really hasn't been an issue for my home needs. I like the price of this printer so I can tolerate the slower speed. Besides, I can command numerous print jobs (one after the other) without problems and walk away. No jams or paper feed issues have happened.
Overall, this printer does exactly what it claims to do and I think is a bargain for the price.
Sometimes the cartridges get damaged. A damaged cartridge will give you a B/W print out or some other horrible variation of print that will never be right until you replace the damaged cartridge with a good one. I have had this happen in the past on one occasion. HP was super and replaced the damaged cartridge for me. I was very satisified with that gesture because I think that I was the one who unknowingly, accidentally damaged that cartridge! HP cartridges have the printheads built right into their cartridges, thus the higher cost. However, I prefer the printheads built in over the other which is why I tend to like HP printers although I do wish the ink was less expensive or more ink for your money. The newer, larger ink tank is limited to certain newer than this models and not even available in all the different cartridges and are not compatible with this model.
4 Best Printer I Ever Bought
If there were any piece of electronics I'd like to take back
20 years and show it to people in 1984, this would be it.
And only $85 ??
I bought the printer from Amazon and it arrived in 2 days.
I forgot to get the special printer cable, but while waiting for this I found that the copier function works right out of the box!
The copier is great. Just like a Xerox machine. Put the original in and hit the copy button (black or color) and the copy is printed out in about 30 seconds or so. The color is almost exactly like the original ! It is very hard to see any difference even on a very colorful photograph. A+. Even if you don't need a printer, buy this for a copier !
The printer replaced my $380 HP870CSE which finally refused to print clearly anymore. The 1210 prints just as quickly, perhaps quicker. The quality is A+. It is less noisy. I don't understand the reviews where people call it "clunky." Also, no paper jams
yet.
Another nice feature is the "cancel" button on the printer. Have you ever had your printer spew out pages of garbage that you couldn't stop ? Not this one. Just hit "cancel" and it stops instantly and ejects the page.
Yet another nice feature is that it doesn't turn on when power comes up. So if you turn on your computer system power and you don't want to print, it just stays off. They've thought of all my pet peeves about printers.
My only complaint is that the instruction manual is extremely abbreviated. For example, how to modify scanner files is left to a sofware "help" section which is all broken up. They should spend the money on a 100 page detailed printed manual.
This thing does everything but FAX . I notice they have more expensive models that also FAX, so some might consider these.
I'm an Engineer, and if any HP guys are reading this : Congratulations on a great design !
5 Good value
I found this combo refurbished machine in OM, (...). I realized that there was a better deal for this machine at (...) after all rebates in June, well, I missed out but I still think this is a good value.
For the printer function, I give it 4 stars. Print quality is good. User can default a draft mode for printing documents, which can save substantial ink. However, this machine sometimes has paper jam problem: to prevent paper jam and waste of ink, I need to feed in page by page for printing. This is fine for me as I don't print a lot.
For copying function, I give it 4 stars. The copying function is pretty good. Without using your PC, you can make copies directly from the machine. [They provide 2 jelly bean style copy buttons (color or b/w) on the machine]. However, the scan head seems getting noisy (higher pitch noise) after 50+ times usage.
For scan function, I give it 2.5 stars. Other than the aforementioned scan head issue, the scanning speed is pretty slow.
For the quality of scanned image, I tried to scan a color magazine page with 100dpi and 300dpi, the 300dpi output had a lot of rough lines, while the quality of 100 dpi output looked a little bit better than the 300 dpi output but a bit blur.
For Scan to document feature, it took me over 40 secs to complete scanning a b/w document. This 40+ secs included the scanner software launch -> pre-scan ->scan preview -> document scan -> document translation to .doc file. Moreover, the document recognition program in HP software is doing a mediocre job in translation.
- 1st, it cannot recognize check box / radio box in a document, and you will find weird symbol in your output word document.
- 2nd, before using "scan to document" feature, make sure your document is printed on fine quality paper. I tried to scan a page in my Princeton GMAT book (which is print on rougher paper). The quality of scanned output in .doc file was really lousy. I got a bunch of weird symbols in the output .doc file.
For HP software, the installation program is pretty buggy. After "successful" installation claimed by HP wizard, launching the HP director program only showed 2 icons instead of 5. Fortunately, I went to HP support web right away and troubleshooted the issue by copying missing folders from CD to my PC.
All in all, this machine is really cute and neat, given its all-in-one functionalities, it is especially good value for non-frequent/home/budget users.
6 This is a printer first than comes the rest
I bought this unit because I needed a printer for my system and it was on sale for $80 and since I have small office space and waneted a scanner and copier it seemed really nice. The Printer prints wonderfully espceially the photo prints I tested on the sample photo paper I like and it prints out word documents and photos great on regular paper. The copier is excellent when you copy from PC. However the scanner leaves the scanned image with lines that take up too much time to correct so the scanner kinda sucks but besides that its an good unit if you have limited space anddon't scan much.
7 Great multifunction device!
This is a fantastic printer/scanner/copier! It prints quickly, with great resolution and true to life color. The copy feature is great -- you get a choice of b/w or color with a touch of a button on the printer (no PC interaction needed!) We are very pleased with the 1210's performance and value. A great buy!
8 HP 1210 psc
This is by far the best unit I have owned and it is my third HP. I like the speed of the printer and the fact that the ink is dry. No smearing! The scanner is quick and accurate, so is the copier. I like the fact that the computer does not have to be on to copy something too. All in all it is worth the money and I am very pleased with it.
9 Good but has it's drawbacks
My family has had this printer for about three months now and it is just like my title. The printer is rather slow and can be annoying (I prefer laser it's fast.) The printer also tends to shake and rattle as it prints and I also suggest you don't put anything on top of it (it prints slower and not as well.) But does print accurately and since I don't print many pictures it has worked well. Ink is really expensive but does last longer than my previous printer. You'll find that most ink cartridages are expensive. (If you are a student or teacher you may be able to get a discount.) The scanner is good and works well with the HP photo and imaging software. The scan button doesn't work very well but if you click scan in the software it works great. The imaging software doesn't have a whole lot of features but you can make it work if you are patient and resourceful. The copier has only two functions 100% and fit to page while another all-in-one does much more (it is also over twice the size). Since I am going off to college I am going to purchase another one because it is small in size and space is of the essence (I can make do without the speed and extra features.)
10 Horrible tech support!!!
The machine earns 3 stars from me. I took 2 stars off the 3 due to the terrible customer service! After using it for half year, the scanning software stop working! Reinstall it on fresh win xp pro, still not working. Call HP tech support, the first two agents put me on hold and never come back. I waited for 15 each and found the telephone finally became silient. The third agent, tried one thing, which did not work at all. Then he said will go to the lab to do some experiments!! I asked how long it will take. He said 5-8 min. I then waited another 25 minutes and the telephone became silent again!
Avoid HP if you can, unless you feel confident that you will never call their technical support! I am so disappointed with HP now. But I am happy that this unpleasant experience happened before I buy a laptop. Because I now know clearly that I will NOT buy HP laptop!
HP tech support sucks!
11 Pretty convenient for the money
I think we've gone through six or seven inkjet printers with our Macs in the last few years. An Epson got clogged, two Canons printed weird color photos and one leaked ink, then they both clogged, a Lexmark was cheap and basic but the cartridges ran out quickly and were fantastically expensive to replace.
This one won't win any speed awards, but we are delighted with the utility. It prints excellent color photos with true colors (but only if you choose the "highest quality setting, otherwise they're just okay). It copies and scans nicely, has text-recognition software inluded, copies and resizes color photos at a touch. It can be quite slow, but we're not in a hurry when we want good prints for friends or a resume or a nice-looking brochure for our home business. The ink carts seem to last a long time and it just seems to do everything we need without having to rush out to Kinko's at midnight. It's been a month and we still find ourselves saying, "Oh, yeah, we can do that on the HP!" Let's hope it lasts a while, because we find it very handy.
For $100 it's very versatile and satisfying.
12 Flop
I bought this printer, because I was using a product replacement plan, and it was the only one with a scanner that I could buy without paying out of pocket in addition to the product replacement plan.
1. I have spent hours of my Saturday trying to install it...and I am quite computer savy.
2. After I finally got it installed the software that it comes with doesn't work. The scanner works, but not through the programs that came with the it....because they don't work.
3. The black ink isn't black, it is varying shades of grey. The test page that prints out thick lines of color for each ink color, looks a lot like someone saturated a piece of paper with black water color. It looks very fuzzy. blah..not black. It may work right on HP paper, but who wants to buy a printer that only prints on special paper. I'm very spoiled by Epson ink, which prints awesome on plain paper.
4. Paper tray is tiny, and prints load right there on top of the tiny paper tray, and paper sometimes gets caught on the guide as it comes out causing the paper to bend.
5. Scan button doesn't work....probably because the software doesn't work.
6. Copier does work, but there are only two size choices 100% or fit to page. Similar all in ones have more size options.
7. Ink comes in only two tanks. So if you print a lot of one color, you'll need to replace the entire tank.
8. My husband says it look cheap. It also feels cheaply made...to light weight. Anything that light can't be high quality.
I'm sure I could get a 9 & 10 if I kept this printer, but it's heading back to the store. I'ld rather pay the $19 out of pocket for a better printer.
13 HP psc 1210 such a disappointment
I'm not giving this unit more than two stars because it is designed to scan and print already. It does both, but badly. After satisfactorily using an HP 672C printer and an HP 3300 scanner for years, the printer developed a problem which wasn't cost effective to repair so I sadly packed up the pair and purchased the all-in-one PSC 1210 for just under 100.00. I'm sorry I did. It's a very fussy unit, someone said "brittle," I agree. The "get started" page doesn't correspond to the actual installation of the software. I'm still looking for the "green check mark" which indicates the software has installed properly. I've got the correct amount of boxes in the "HP director" indicating so, but the unit doesn't work properly and isn't in sync with the software which doesn't seem to accommodate the unit, needing to be uninstalled and reinstalled several times..., actually recommended in the manual because HP KNOWS there's a problem. Having struggled through several installs, I still can't get the unit to work properly. There are problems during reboots..., and another warning in the instructions about this..., not a good sign..., several actual crashes, and I keep getting an "illegal operation, invalid page fault" for files "Stimon, HPGTPUSD." A "find files or folders" search proves the files are there! I made sure to uninstall the old units completely so there'd be no conflicts, doesn't matter. The unit makes quite a racket while printing. It is very slow too, and scanning is too much trouble, again, software is complex, slow, & tedious. Quality of photos is mediocre..., now I print photos at regular print settings because using the photo setting is just a waste of ink which, by the way, is going too fast. After several reinstalls and bad prints, I'm ready to pack this one in.
14 Poor scanning, paper feed, and software
I, too, was lured by the low price of this item at Costco; however, sometimes you don't even get what you pay for. The paper feed only seems to work with one sheet; more than that and it grabs multiple at once. The scanning only works for single pieces of paper; anything at all larger that requires the lid not to be pefectly closed and you might as well take a digital photo instead. And don't get me started on the software; I'm a professional developer for a major software company, and it still took me several hours with low-level diagnostic tools to get it all installed correctly and working. All in all, a pretty miserable experience.
On the bright side, the printouts come across nicely, so I haven't quite thrown it into the trash yet.
15 Useless software
The software provided with the PSC1210 does not work on Window 2000 and on Windows 98. The box says that both these operating systems are supported. Even after trying the remedial measures on HP support site, the software does not work properly. Do not buy this unless you want to waste hours struggling with the installation of software and you will get no good result.
You can use the printer (without any advanced options) and stand-alone copier function without the software also. But scanning... and converting to PDF cannot be done without correctly installed software.
16 Shockingly poor quality
I bought this printer lured by the price and the all-in-one feature. Since the beggining I had problems with printouts suddendly stopping without apparent reason. A call to HP support made me by a AC powered USB 4 port (according to them laptops don't send enough power to the printer...). 20 dollars to the trash, because the printer still has the problem. The printing quality is not bad for the price, although it CAN'T handle heavy paper (50% of your photo papers will print ruined). The scanner is ok for the price too. The copier function, and actually everything related to the software is lousy, bulky, and chances are it will at least slow down your system (or even crash it). Actually, I think the whole problem with the printer is the soft...
This is my first HP, a couple of years ago I had a small printing company and used similarly priced printers from other brands for HEAVY (and I mean it, 2000+ prints a day) printing and never had this kind of problems. This printer seems so brittle that I doubt it could handle that load.
17 You Get What You Pay For!
I bought the HP PSC 1210 because my HP PSC 750 with 2400*1200 dpi (which I LOVED TO DEATH) broke. I tried to have it repaired, sent it to HP, and for TRIPLE THE COST OF WHAT I PAID they would fix it ($700!). So instead I opted to just buy a new one, this 1210v which claims it can print 4800*1200, and for the low price of $100.
Even when it was fresh out of the package the 1210 DID NOT live up to the quality of my old one, let alone exceed it as its specs promised. It took forever to print photos, and the end result was not what I was hoping for... you can definitely tell that you are looking at pictures printed at home, even with the 4800*1200 optimized dpi selected (the highest quality you can choose to print with). For the average person looking to print amateur family works of art, this is a last resort in my opinion. I think this printer is more aimed at high school/college students who need to complete their reports, and such.
My sons' toddler friend pulled a paper out of the feed once and now this one is broken as well. The symptoms: Just printing documents of presentable quality is a random thing. Pictures are skewed and striped with the worst color quality I've ever seen, everything comes out at a slant and the borders are rippled or wavy... it's almost funny! Not to mention the constant clicking and halting at the end of every page that I try to print. Ridiculously, now in order to print anything at all I have to press the resume button after EACH page.
One year after buying the 1210 and I'm gonna skip the $700 repair fees, throw this one in the garbage, and buy an Epson. You get what you pay for!
18 No Greyscale Printing Option
Prints nice BUT - most printers give you the option to print in greyscale to save the expensive color ink cartridge. I do this all the time when I want a temporary hardcopy of info. from a web site. The HP 1210 printer driver does not include this option. I contacted HP customer service and they confirmed. They gave me a hokey method of physically removing the color cartridge and changing the "configuration". I think this is HP's Marketing departments efforts to increase color cartridge sales. If you need a greyscale print option, DON'T buy this printer.
19 Good for copying and scanning. But...
I used two other printers one from HP Deskjet 842c and another from Lexmark. In this printer/scanner/copier,Copying and Scanning functions are good. Scanning Software is good. Color print quality is also good compared to my previous printers. But, I mostly need black & white prints. Here, to take black & white prints, we have to remove the color catridge and change a software setting. Otherwise I have to use the expensive color catridge as opposed to cheaper black & white catridge. The additional software is good. But printer driver features is not great.
For printing, I am going to use my old HP Deskjet 842c printer. With this printer, I can switch between Black & White and Color print options very easily and I can print both sides.
20 Easy to install!!
I don't know much about anything computer related, but I needed a new printer. After reading amazon's review of this machine I got one at Costco(USB cable included here) for $86.00. I approached it with trepidation, but I inslalled it myself in 15 minutes, and so far it is a gem. I don't know how long the ink will last, but I have my fingers crossed.
Nov 2,2004 I still love this machine. The ink gave out once, but it is easy to replace. It works well for my limited needs.
21 Very Convenient
This is a great product. It prints great pictures. The Ink Cartridges have lasted long for me. It is small so it fits in tight spaces. The Scannner is not top of the line, its a 36 bit, but I already have one that is 48 bit which I use to scan, so I don't really need this feauture, but 36 bit scanner is good. What I liked the most is that you can use it as a stand alone copy machine, so you don't need to turn on your computer and scan your documents and then send them to print, and even if you got the copy option in your scanner in order to print it you need the computer to be on, but with this baby it doesn't matter if the computer is one just turn on your 3 in 1 and get your copy in seconds instead of minutes.
22 Very convenient
I got this machine because the last printer I had had three different ink outlets, but all in the same cartridge, so when I ran out of one of the three colors, I had to buy a whole new cartridge and waste what remained of the other two. It was bigger than what my desk could hold. So I decided to go with a printer which used HP 56 and HP 57 Ink Cartridges, which last long at my office, where there is a whole lot of printing daily. Then I saw this on a very good special that included a 20 dollar rebate, so I got it.
Although the scanner is not as good as the 48 bit I own (this one has a 36 bit) the printing is very, very good. Pictures print very good on third party paper, even on store brand paper, as long as you set your machine and printing preferences to photo paper and best printing. It is a bit faster than the one I used to Have.
Best of all I can use it as a stand alone copy machine. Before I had to turn on my computer and send the documents to the printer, through the computer, which took only to turn on the computer about 2 minutes. So this feature is very handy.
Until today no complaints, excellent machine. By the way this baby is smaller than my former printer, so it sits nicely on my computer desk.
23 Value is the name of the game here
(For technical information, see the "editorial review" above)
For a little more than $100, you definitely get more than you pay for with the HP PSC 1210. The copying, printing and scanning functions are all serviceable, and that alone should be worth the purchase price. If you plan on using this product for personal use or a home office that doesn't require too much printing, this printer is a quantum leap from the ho-hum world of desk jets.
However, you do get what you pay for in some respects. While all the functions of the printer are at least adequate, there are no areas (aside from sheer flexibility) where it really shines. The HP 1210 prints with about average clarity and acceptable (though hardly lightening) speed. The printer is also subject to periodic paper jams. The scanning function and affiliated software work realy well in terms of quality, but it's slow and not always the most user-friendly. The copier function is limited in that the copier is extremely slow and there is little room surrounding the copying area, making copying out of a hardbound book, for example, very difficult. However, the copier is a wonderful time-saver when you need to make one or two quick copies, and it can operate when your computer is off or busy with something else.
So, if you don't have a lot of money and you're looking for a multifunction printer, this is a great way to get in the game. It will enable you to do a lot of things, but you'll probably still have some of those hair-pulling "stupid printer" moments. If you're willing to spend a little more, or you're going to ask for a lot from your printer, it's probably worth your while to spend a little more on something better.
24 Small Printer with a BIG HEART
This printer is worth every penny. Nicely designed to fit into a small area. The scanner produces better quality images than my $600 office scanner. Small Printer with a big Printer heart. BRAVO HP for a great product. BRAVO AMAZON for selling it for such a great price.
25 Why settle for just a printer?
I don't usually comment on products with this many reviews, but this little all-in-one is so good that I'll risk redundancy. You see, I've been using my PSC 1210 fairly heavily for well over a year, and I just replaced the black ink cartridge for the first time yesterday!
On to the product details. The 1210 is a small and stylish Printer-Scanner-Copier; female friends have called it "cute" more than once. Although not technically a part of HP's PhotoSmart line, the flatbed scanner and color printing are good enough for most projects to call them "photo quality". It's also an excellent light duty copier, perfect for quick duplication of receipts and other odds and ends. As for compatibility, I've used mine with XP, OS X, and Red Hat, on USB 1.1 and USB 2, all without the slightest difficulty (although networking it was a bit of a chore). And did I mention ink economy?
No product is perfect, but my complaints are relatively few. The unit makes a scary-sounding "grinding click" when feeding paper, the bundled software is feature light (no grayscale printing option, no dry time adjustment, etc.), and the USB cable was not included. But all things considered, this reliable little multifunction machine is a great value and should be a perfect fit for most home users. Four and one-half stars, happily rounded up.
26 Feature Loaded, HP Quality, Unbeatable Price
If you are a home user that does a moderate amount of printing and would like to have both printing and scanning ability, this printer is a great choice. It will scan, copy, and print with very good print quality. It will function as a stand-alone copy machine that will copy in both black & white and color. The user-friendly software adds more functionality allowing you to do tasks such as color adjustments, enlargements, cropping, darkening, etc. It was a good purchase. I am very pleased with mine.
27 Great Multi-function...one flaw.
I own my own business and purchased the 1210xi model for office use. The printer is wonderful...fast, clean text, etc. However, it does not support printing Business Card paper.
28 Could Never Get It to Work On Windows ME Properly
I have Windows ME and this printer absolutely gave me headaches. I couldn't print. The drivers hung my computer. I finally decided to return it. When HP says it supports ME, they should make sure that is the case.
29 Very pleased
I am a college student and the Canon bubble jet printer I get back in 1998 finally died. I decided not to spend the $50 to repair it and went looking for a printer. I was also having scanner problems, so I've been looking for a scanner, too.
This printer/scanner/copier is great and easy to use. Installation and set up took about 25 minutes. About 10 minutes after that, I was scanning in photos.
If you want to do anything special with your pictures, you are going to need a separate program. My computer came with one, but if you want something like Photoshop, you're going to have to buy it.
Also, get a USB cable. Mine didn't come with one and you'll need it to connect it to the computer.
The printer and scanner are both noisy, but only when in use. It's not a big deal, but it can be annoying if you're trying to read or something. But, it really isn't a big deal.
All in all, I'm very pleased with this printer/scanner.
30 Great value for 3 in 1
I've had this for 3 months. The small size is excellent for a small space -- a requirement in my situation. All the features work just as described. I set it up with my Dell PC within minutes and have used all the features. Occasionally, the paper feed would jam -- 'fan' the paper before putting it in the feed, and there are no problems. The HP software is nice when scanning and loading pictures or documents to my hard drive. It's a great value for the price and features.
31 Satisfied
This is a great buy for the money. You won't find a combo printer/scanner/copier like this anywhere else. As a student, I needed a decent printer for churning out research papers. Asa web designer, I wanted a good scanner. As an amatuer photographer, i wanted a good photo peinter. In this, I got all three.
The printing jobs a solid, fast, and clean. Even printing off the web is surpringly fast. A thirty or forty page paper pops out in minutes. The only complaint I have--and considering it is the only thing keeping this printer from getting fivestars, so it is a small complaint, is how often the paperjams. It's only a minor deal to reach in a pull the offending page, but it does keep you chaine tothe printer during bigger print jobs.
The scanning of photos is easily done and the results or just as good as a srand alone scanner. Bear in mind that a decent standalone scanner would probaly cost as much as this combo printer. You begin to see the value of this machine. The editing software allows you to easily edit your scansto suit your needs.
Finally, the photo printing isexcellent. I have no qualms about placing printed photos in albums alongside professionally developed photos. One caveat, it is best to use HP paper with it. That's a small price to pay, however.
I am very happy with my purchase. You wil be, too.
32 HP all-in-one Printer 2110
I love this printer, it does it all. I have had it two years and no problem, durable, reliable and easy to use. Usually the day you buy a computer product it is outdated, but so far this printer has keep up with the new models. I also think it prints better graphics then the new digital photo printers. The new model has a view window, that's a plus.
33 Great printer for less $$$
I bought this printer a week ago from Fry's. I read most of
the reviews posted here and feel that i should contribute
to the discussion. I feel this is a great bargain for $90.
Installation on my Windows XP box was easy.
Pros
----
Good quality printing.
Cheap cartridge ( $30 for color, $24 for b/w)
Fast print/copy output in draft mode.
Good copier
Cons
----
Installs 400MB of software
Very noisy and shaky at the time of printing
No power saving mode
Scanning is slow
Generates 300MB files for 8x10 photos at 1200 dpi
In summary....if you intend to use this at home for occasional printing/copying this is a great printer. It has sufficient
quality for most print/copy jobs.
If you scan/copy a lot, I would reccommend a higher end model.
34 what a deal
This is great - very convenient to copy, and the software is very good for managing and printing picutures, it even orients your pictures for you so you get maximum prints per page. Scanning is indeed a bit weak but hey, what do you expect for the price? Oh, it prints fast, too.
35 Don't waste your $$$
This is the LOUDEST printer I've ever used! I was totally disappointed in it after the great luck I've had with HP printers in the past. I don't like the fact that I can't print in B&W. As far as scanning goes, the quality is really bad. I get streaks in all my pictures. I spend a lot of time in Photoshop correcting levels and streaks as well as something that appears to be dust, underneath the glass, that shows up in every scan. In my opinion, your best bet is to buy a printer and buy a scanner. I know the whole all-in-one thing is convenient, but in this case, I feel as if I definitely sacrificed quality for convenience. I plan to purchase a Canon scanner tomorrow to replace this one. I will be pulling my old HP printer out of the closet. This is one piece of office equipment that I regret purchasing; but, hey, don't we all have at least one of those?
36 Value for the money
I got my HP1210 as an early Christmas gift. The scanner feature is great. I was able to scan my sister's graduation pictures in seconds. I also tried picture printing using plain paper and generic photopaper. The plain paper picture was great. Colors were vivid. However, printing using non-HP photopaper could be better. Some of the pictures that I printed had lines in them, and there was a squeeking sound while it printed. Putting in the ink cartridge was a little hard for my large hands.
Overall, still a great value for the money. It sure helps me with my space situation. I can now scan, print and copy in just a small space.
37 Loud, Clunky & Average to Poor Quality Photos
I needed a new printer because my old HP was jamming every time and after your printer is 3 months old, HP won't give any technical help... As many folks know, photo paper is expensive so this is an expensive problem to have. Stupid me bought a new HP printer... This one makes a huge racket every time it prints. It sounds like it's chewing up your paper, but it hasn't yet. (3 days old) I printed some pictures and thought the results were kind of bad, so I printed the same photo file on the same brand of paper on my old printer. It looked 10x better. I thought I'd just go back to praying in front of the old printer not to eat my pictures, but alas it already has... Needless to say I am minus $100 and w/o printer for Xmas... I finally learned .... NO MORE HP PRODUCTS!!!
38 prints excellent
Changing the cartridges is a pain. Error wrong cartridge keeps coming up . Hp sent refurbished to replace my printer and Im getting thew same errors. Hp is no help.
39 Pretty good
It's a pretty good printer. Easily jams though if you don't load the paper in right. Occasionally it'll pick up multiple papers at once. The first one I got had a problem with alignment of the cartridges and didn't have a label for the buttons but we returned it and the new one works great. Very good quality- especially for the price. The scanner and copy machine work well also.
40 Great Buy for the Money
I've just purchased the HP PSC 1210 and installed in on a system with Windows XP quickly and without any problems. I bought the printer at COSTCO for $87.00 and it was definitely more than worth the money. The photo quality is wonderful and the scans are great. The only problem I had initially was with the paper jamming, but soon I realized that it was due to placing it into the paper tray too far.
41 total trash
Set-up disaster. Printer would not align. Graphic images looked double exposed. Scanner software hopeless. Unit was noisy, clunky. Spewed paper. Installed on new 12" iBook, OS X 10.3 Jaguar. Help function declared I was running in OS9, then wouldn't function. Returned to dealer for full refund. Epson, here I come!
42 Do not own yet, however....
I do not own this model yet. However, my brother-in-law does. He loves it! They printed a dollar bill to test the scanning and printing. It came out amazing! Not saying you want to copy money on this machine...but I've never seen a scanner and color printer match a dollar bill so closely!! It even picked out the blue and red thread! From that I was basically sold on buying one.
I am getting a printer for X-mas and am researching 2 others as well as this one. The Lexmark X1150 looks pretty good too.
This model sells at Sam's for $88.75...FYI.
43 Small footprint, big functionality
This is my new favorite peripheral: a scanner, copier and printer the size of a shoebox.
The installation was easy, right out of the box, this thing worked like a charm. The scanner is a bit small compared to some of the very large surface ones, but for receipts, photos, and 8.5 X11 pages it is just fine. It's less good for books as the cover is lightweight and you don't really want to press hard on it.
The copier works whether or not the PC is on, and it does COLOR or B&W. As a printer, it's pretty good. All in all, this delivers a tremendous amount of office work for a very reasonable price, and it fits on my desk with the compact rectangular format. Note that a FAX is not included here; either hook up a software fax and use the scanner or you will need a fax-inclusive unit if you find yourself wanted to fax offline from the computer.
44 only works with plain paper
Printing onto plain paper and scanning work just fine, and if that's all you want to do, the HP1210 appears to be a good value.
However, one of our main goals from a printer is producing labels. After repeatedly following every one of HP's instructions to the letter, 9 out of 10 sheets of Avery labels will be ruined by the 1210. It is simply not capable of feeding them in correctly, and the results are either fatally misaligned or tilted on the page.
I recommend avoiding this model, and will have to return it as defective. Probably get a Canon.
45 great if you only use plain paper
Printer worked fine on plain paper, and scanner works fine. However, the big reason we got a new printer was for making labels. Desipte following all of HP's and Avery's instructions, the 1210 is only capable of ruining expensive labels. It cannot feed the labels in correctly, so only about 1 in 10 sheets will be usable.
Don't get sucked into this product like we did, unless all you want to do is print onto plain paper.
46 GREAT!!!!!!
Zero problems. This is the best printer ever it does everything.
47 100% satisfied
It is hard to believe that this printer is about $100. I have been using the printer for a few months now.
Pros:
-----
1. Photo-printer, scanner, color and B & W copier -- all in one.
2. Amazing performance for all of the above functions.
3. Photo printing quality amazing (on HP photo-paper).
4. More silent than my previous Lexmark Z52 printer.
5. Never had a paper jam even once (so far).
6. Approx $100!!! This is worth $300 of money spent on Lexmark!
7. Unlike Lexmark, cartridges do not go bad every now and then.
Cons:
-----
Ink is costly, but then so is for every printer.
No option to choose greyscale printout. I do 'not' see this as a problem because I have almost always dried up color ink than using it completely (with Lexmark).
Software is a resource hog. Computer takes longer to start. In the Task-Manager (Windows 2000), I see several HP executables and services running all the time. I see this as the one and only weakness in this printer.
Photo-quality:
--------------
Use HP photo-paper only. (No I am do not work for HP.) I tried photo-paper from Staples. Black looks real black only on HP photo-paper. This HP paper is costly by the way (~ $1 per Letter sheet)!
On ordinary paper too, photo looks better than many other printers.
(I tried several printers on display. Canon photo-quality is good but smears extra ink on the paper. Agreed that the printers on display are often abused (!), but still this is what your printer will most likely do! Confirmed from reviews on Canon i560 etc.)
Caution:
--------
1. Follow all the steps of the installation process as listed on the included chart. They are all important as mentioned! Printer will not work otherwise. Following these steps by itself was easy and printer was up and running in 10 minutes.
48 Does everything it promises!
hp PSC-1210
Pro's,
1. Small & good looking.
2. Printer & copier work well.
3. Uses same ink as many other hp printers, so finding correct one at local store is easy.
4. Lots of controls on the panel.
5. Works fine without color ink cartridge (in something hp calls "reserve mode") for B&W prints & copies.
6. Black ink is reasonably priced for occasional users.
Con's,
1. Ink pricing is a rip off, but so is the case with Lexmark, Epson, etc.
2. Paper tray holds very few sheets.
3. Build quality is below average (for example Epson C84 is much better).
4. Even after paying high price, hp black #56 ink isn't really black. Epson C84 with durabrite ink has much better & blacker prints.
5. Prints slowly.
6. Uses a smart chip on ink tanks, so generic ink can't be used.
I paid a low price for a refurbished one and plan to use it as an occasional copier. If you need a copier & printer go for 1210. If only a printer is needed go for Epson C84 or Canon i450 or Samsung ML-1710 laser.
49 So convenient and practical
This thing paid for itself in one night of photocopying notes the night before midterms at 3:30am. The quality is excellent, the convenience and simplicity are unmatched. Even the software it installs is unintrusive. No "Epson print manager" popping up with every click. Copying without the computer being on is a huge plus. Highly recommended for poor college students everywhere.
50 Can this be love?
My cat is bigger than this multifunction machine.
Unlike other users with Windows ME, I had no problems with installation--maybe they've fixed the problem with the driver or maybe I just got lucky. At any rate, total installation time, including wrasslin' with the styro packing and applying the panel's sticker, was 12 minutes.
Photos and color copies look fantastic, overall. If you squint and look for them, you will find tiny edges that are less than perfectly perfect on large 5 x 7 or 8 x 10 prints (I can't squint hard enough to find them any smaller than that). For such an inexpensive printer, it's truly amazing. Black and white letters and documents look just grand as well--really sharp, deeply black and very professional.
I use the copy function routinely to make copies of things for my portfolio. Bypassing my PC and making multiple copies has saved a ton of time for me, and it's already earned it's keep. I've made many color copies from bulky, awkward magazines, and each one has turned out crystal clear--in one case, the copy actually looked better than the original because of the matte paper I used.
Scanning, which I've never really done before, seems fast and easy. I suppose that someone who needs a scanner for professional purposes or film would need a fancier machine. Both images and words came through clear and sharp. It's not ultra-fast; perhaps 90 seconds for a full page of text and images. HP includes a disk of some kind of imaging tools. I've only glanced at it once and it seemed like it didn't have much, but what possibilities it did offer (like posting images to a specific type of online album) were very complete and easy to follow--they just not might be what you want or need.
It's very easy to operate and the button panel is totally intuitive. Refilling paper is a cinch, and replacing the ink tanks is far easier than it was with my old Lexmark. I haven't seen a single paper jam, and have used three weights of bond paper and two types of photo paper.
It also seems sturdy--the resident giant cat has been found sleeping on it more than once, and there haven't been any ill effects so far.
51 Missing some key ingredients...
Yeah, it's only $100 these days (plus whatever you spend on a USB cable!!)...but, it can't manage to print a business card. Read CNET's review, and this was a concern of theirs too, can't handle cardstock type paper.
This one's going back...dissappointed as I really like the size/shape and copy without computer.
52 Junk
Amazon sent me two, then stopped shipping because none worked. I've been waiting for my refund since mid-august.
53 Lost with HP once again
I am glad that so many others have good experiences with HP. It has not been my history and I will never buy from them again. In regards to the 1210, I can only talk about installing, I never got past that stage. I soon discovered from their support page that there is a tiny problem with installing to Windows ME. It seems you need a Windows patch. And you should have done that first, dummy. Well, I got the patch, still didn't work. I tried a few of their other suggestions, and then was told I probably should just uninstall and start again. They told me to go to Start, Programs and find the printer and uninstall with the uninstall button. Well, not listed in the programs. Gee, use the disk to uninstall. Fine, seemed to work, all the flashing lines looked like something was happening. Time to install: "The program has already been succesfully installed on your computer." After three hours of this nonsense, I packed it all back up and it is on its way back home. I assume that I still have that 500 mgb log jamb on my computer. Thanks HP for a waste of my time.
54 Sweet Printer
As a college student i would have to say this prionter does averyhting as advertised.. it prints scans and copies all beautifully. It is certainly a great value for the price and i was totally blow away by the photo printing quality.
55 Good on ink use, LOUSY with PROJECTS
Found that the 1210 ink milage to be surprisingly good for the starter ink cartridges. Printed about 40 pictures and lots of letters and its and still going strong. As others wrote, it does jam up more than other HP's and it is sure noisier than the one I saw in the store. Could hardly hear that one. Funny how that works..!! You can only print in black only if you take out the color ink tank but you keep getting an annoying message that you are printing in "reserve" mode. Not really a problem.
The real problem I had was I could not print any CD labels or any other kind of label with this thing. Wasted a whole lot of paper and labels trying to get it to "line up" my projects. Don't try to print any Avery business cards from their web site.
Also, if you have less that a killer PC, this thing will be like
the tail wagging the dog. It eats up so much system resources that you will wait and wait for your computer to set up after start up. The 1210 will eat up about 500 megabytes of space. Not a problem if you have a new PC, but if you have an old piece of junk, like mine, 500 megabytes is a lot of real estate.
It does print pictures quickly and had no complaints about the pictures printed and the copier function is really convenient. You can leave the PC off and make copies in B&W and/or color.
Have not had chance to scan anything yet. The 1210 seemed like a good idea on the shelf at the store, but in the execution of projects, it is lacking ease of use. I am already thinking of bring back my old Canon. Live and learn...
56 HP Hits a Home Run
After hours and hours and hours of trying to install a Visioneer 9020 scanner on my HP Windows XP computer, I gave up and returned it. Having read multiple POSITIVE reviews on HP's new PSC 1210 all-in-one, I decided to give that a try. Am I ever pleased I did. SUPER SUPER SUPER. Great looking, takes up little space, extremely easy to set up. I was scanning, printing, and copying within minutes, literally. Both black and color are very good quality. My first scan was of a photo and, even on plain paper, it was hard to tell the difference between the photo and the copy. The cartridges are easy to install (their location is a bit awkward). Parallel positioning of the USB connector and the power plug is creative and saves space. Software is easy to install and use. You can keep it simple or you can be creative. I am more than pleased. HP has a winner here - and, it's affordable too. GREAT VALUE!! Color me HAPPY and PRINT!
57 Simply Amazing
If you want a quality all in one that does the job hassle free, this is it.
I love mine.
58 Good Printer, but terrible software
I recently purchased a HP 1210 series printer and was thrilled that I could get so such a versatile printer ... Unfortunately with this one, you pay for what you get. Before you even think about installing the printer you better make sure you have a USB printer cable, because they don't include one in the box. Also, buying some extra ink right away would be good, since the cartridges you get to start with are less than half full. After you have all the prepwork in you have to go through the tedios process of setting it up "exactly" as the instructions say or the install will fail (had to do it 5 times). Once it is installed expect constant lockups, failures to print and scan, oh and the extra load time for windows since the software hogs all the system resources during startup.
59 The sort of unit I used to dream of owning
I am completely satisfied with this product. It is incredible that such a high quality printer/scanner/copier can be offered at such an affordable price! It is easy to use, and fast and easy to set-up (I was printing/scanning/copying in 20 minutes after I opened the box.) It has never jammed or otherwise malfunctioned on me yet. In terms of speed and image quality, it is also better than anything that I've ever owned.
I especially like the fact that you do not even need to turn your PC on in order to use the copier function- nor do you have to wait very long for it to warm up.
Plus, the cost of replacement cartridges is considerably less than that of certain lower cost competitor's models.
The only small thing is that it does not come with a printer cable (USB), though you probably have one of those already.
I am glad to once again own a HP product- indeed I am sorry that I ever tried anything else.
60 !
Overall this is a really good deal for what you get. The quality is very good for what you have to pay. The printing and copying are very good and fast. The scanning kind of [is bad]mainly because of the software, it's just not that user friendly. Other than that I am very happy with my purchase. HP is by far a much better brand to go with over Canon ([bad] ink tanks), Epson (kind of like a [local store]), and Lexmark (poor customer service and all around bad quality).
61 Newlywed Computer Enthusiast
I recently purchased this item, although not from Amazon. And I can't say enough good things about it.
My old printer was an HP 710C Deskjet. While it was good, it annoyed me with spitting out a plain piece of paper after every printing session. I called/e-mail HP about this and they had no clue how to fix it. So I just lived with it's quirks until I saw this at Office Depot.
With having recently getting married, the need to scan in all of our wedding photographs became apparent. And having to go to the library to do this was tedious and expensive (for those of us who live in a rural location and don't have free access to the library).
This unit takes up much less space than my old Deskjet, is quieter, same or better print quality, and faster at printing. I would highly recommend this to anyone with limited desk-space and a limited capacity wallet. You get 3 in 1 for the price of most low quality printers.
62 Very poor quality
This gotta be one of the worst printers I've ever bought. I got this model because I wanted something small. I'd of prefered a laser model, but for this price, I figured I couldn't of asked too much. But the Malaysian-made 1210 is a joke. The ink cartridge leaked after less than a week. I took it back and got a new one, which started making tons of noise right after the 30 day exchange policy expired. And the paper feed tends to jam more often than other printers I'd had. Totally disappointed. Will never buy an HP again.
63 Scanner bites - don't get this if you want to scan.
The printer is excellent. (for the price) The copier does an excellent job.
The Scanner is the worst that I have seen in 11 years. My ... elcheapo Canon scanner is five times as good as this one.
The scanner is unusable. There are horrible spots and extra artificial patterns generated by the driver, or the scanner - I don't know which it is. An increase in resolution makes the scan worse instead of better.
I don't understand how the copy function works so well and the scanner function works so poorly.
Even though I got mine for [a little money] it was too much.
64 Why did they disable printer sharing ?
The features looked attractive but when I set up my HP PSC1210 I was in for a big surprise. This is only printer that I know that cannot be shared over a network. It will only print with the computer that's attached to it. So if you plan to use it with 2 or 3 computers in your home network forget it. Now that the cartridges have been opened I can't return it!
The driver only offers these options: draft/normal/best, portrait/landscape, paper type and size.
The absence of a greyscale and multipage options means it will use up a lot more colored ink than you would normally expect.
Maybe all these problems are related to the fact that we can't use the 870c series drivers because that would allow saving a lot of ink. All other PSC's can be used by a windows 98 computer using a 870c driver through the network.
So this printer is crippled in a few ways. Maybe it's the successor to HP's Appolo printer line.
65 It's an office assistant machine !
I like it very much. Uses for light printing and some copying. Now I have a COPIER with me in my room. No more trips to OfficeMAX, save time and gas. My 3 year-old daughter has fun with it too. She searchs for old photo in our albums, puts in the printer and copies them. The results are beautiful.
PROS:
-Look nice, small size
-All print, copy, and scan in a tiny machine.
-Quite, Quick.
-Copy without the computer.
CONS:
-The ink set shipped with the printer did not work.
They shipped me another set.
66 good value
Good value for the money- you get a scanner, copier and printer for the same price you would pay for other printers (which are also bulkier than this machine!) As a college student on a budget, this is great because I can make copies and scan in things if needed without going all the way to the library. Photo prints were good quality and weren't that slow. B&W text printed fast and sharp. i recommend this for those on a budget and needs something that is small--a great machine.
67 fine printer
I bought this product a few weeks ago, and so far have had no problems. I am a grad student, and will be using the printer primarily for b&w printing. Another reviewer mentioned that the device is slow to print, but I have not found that to be the case. Obviously, printing in color or at the highest quality will slow down any printer; in economy mode, it's quite speedy. I have not used the scanner at all yet, but for the price, I figured it would be nice to have it there if I ever needed it. I mainly bought it for the printer and the copier. I do like that you can copy without turning on your computer, and the b&w copies seem to be just fine. I have not tried to make a color copy yet. If you need a basic printer/copier, this one does just fine, and it's a great price, plus very compact.
68 Amazing little product
I've used laser jet printers, ultra high quality photo printers, and very high quality scanners -- for a small price and a small footprint, this is an amazing little box. It does all three functions VERY WELL. Maybe not as well as a $500 printer or a $500 scanner, but VERY WELL. The ability to make a color or b&w photocopy without turning on a PC is neat just by itself! The included software, with the ability to write a pdf file, is very functional. I highly recommend it as a single unit solution -- in fact, I've unplugged both my high quality scanner and the photo quality printer (I'll keep them available for that special project...but this single box is now the workhorse!).
69 Underachieving
This printer isnt worth the money as it can often get damaged during shipping. I recomend its bigger brothers from HP as my 2110 performs wonderfully.
70 HP PSC 1210V all in one
...
PROS:
- affordable!
- easy to use- side labeled buttons
- quality, I'm no expert, but I'd say its pretty good for the price (:
CONS:
The only thing I hate about this is the constant paper jam every time I use it. I tried printing out a picture on glossy paper, but it keeps getting jammed! I went to the hp website for support, didn't help much. Anyone got any tips??
Overall I give this all in one an A-
71 No grayscale printing - why? why? why?
Pros: very good color printing, seems better than my Canon i320.
Cons: no grayscale support by the driver. This is inexcusable to me. Don't say that you get what you pay for. Even the cheapest of cheap printers can do this. There is a work around (remove the color cartridge), but that's lame. Also, everytime I remove its system tray program, I get a GPF-type error.
If grayscale printing were supported, it would be a 4-star.
72 Works Like A Dream! Updated review.
I decided to buy this all-in-one after reading the customer reviews. It is better than I expected. I used the poster to install it on my new Dell 4600 computer, and it took just a few minutes to have it up and running. I mainly use it to print out lesson plans from a word processing program, but I have also scanned documents into my word processing program, and it does that flawlessly. I like that scanned documents can be saved as PDF files. I've printed out photos and artwork, and the quality is excellent. I have found the software easy to use. No USB cable is provided, but you get full ink cartridges. I plan to buy a second one for my classroom. I think that this is an amazing machine for a very low price.
I have been using this machine for over a year. I did purchase a second one for my classroom. I remain very pleased with its performance, both as a copier and a scanner. I like the OCR capability of the scanner, as I can scan in tests from my textbook publishers that can then be edited. I also scan pages of books for my genealogy research, which can then be added to my genealogy database. The OCR works well with clear type, but I have found that old, or blurry type is very difficult to scan with usable results. So much clean-up has to be done that it isn't worth it.
I have scanned many photos, including professional studio photos. The quality of the scanned images is excellent.
In my classroom, I mainly use the copier when I run short of handouts for class. It is very convenient for that. I have also made overhead transparancies of textbook photos, and I have been very pleased with the copier's capablilty to do that.
My only complaint would be the cost of the ink cartridges. I have been refilling my own ink cartridges, which is not difficult.
I am very pleased with this machine, both at work and home.
73 A Great Printer but a Lousy All-in-One
One of very few printers under $100 that has 4800 by 1200 dpi resolution. Prints photos very well. However, the scanner is virtually useless. The bundled scanning software is crude and freezes very easily, forcing you to reboot your computer. However one plus is that the price of catridges for this printer is almost half that of others from Lexmark, etc. Buy this device for its good print resolution, low price and stand alone copier capability. 74 Amazing price for amazing quality...
After purchasing a lexmark all-in-one unit about a year ago, I got very skeptical that all-in-one printers could be of comparable quality to dedicated printers. HP has blown me away with the 1210. This unit is superb at printing quality quickly, has an excellent scanner that can scan at multiple resolutions. I tried scanning in a photo at 600 dpi and was very pleased with the sharpness and color accuracy. The last feature, and definitely not the least of them, is the copying feature. I can copy documents in black & white or in color very quickly, and it doesn't even involve the computer. I just hit copy on the printer, and instantly, the document is scanned and a copy is printed. On top of all this quality, this unit is extremely compact, and just looking at it, you might not realize that there's a scanner/copier in that machine capable of scanning quality scans of full size documents.
75 PERFECT for the college student on a budget!
I was recommended this buy my friend (who happens to work for Staples and owns one of these as well) and seeing that I could get a scanner, printer, and the awesome copy feature for [a little money] I couldn't pass it up. This is PERFECT for a college student with little cash (like me!). Uses the same cartridges that some of the higher end models do and matches their quality pretty close as well. I've scanned images and have posted them on the web, they are excellent quality. I've printed and its fast and great quality. You could look at it this way, you are buying a great printer (probably even saving a little money), getting a scanner for for free, and they are completely integrated saving space and allowing for instant copies (it isn't software that allows the copies, you can do it without a PC). Only cons are that the scanner is a little on the noisy side and as a business student I wish it had built in fax feature (but my laptop has fax software so no biggie). It also has some cool features, one I found is that it can scan a document and save it as a .PDF which is great for me since I am a musician and want a way to have professional looking lyrics on my website. I definitely recommend this, especially with a price tag that won't melt your credit cards and burn a hole in your wallet.
76 Works great with the iMac!
After installing the software it works great with the iMac. However, be advised that you are getting what you pay for here. It's a great price for a all-in-one printer, but the scanner resolution is only fair. But, you can't beat the price for a quality product like this from HP. As long as you don't need to scan or print photographs in high resolution, this is a great way to go. Don't get me wrong here though, it's good enough for the casual user, it's just not professional grade - but for [the price]there is no better deal around that I was able to find, especially for the iMac!
77 Great Printer - Great Value!
I just got the psc-1210 which I bought from amazon.com. I read the other reviews one in particular which worried me about not being able to print in grayscale. I talked to HP support and they said all you have to do is remove the color cartriage. That worked fine for me. Setup is simple, but like others mentioned, the software leaves something to be desired in some ways, but in my opinion is exceptional in others. What you get for the price is worth it, especially if you want to scan and copy.
78 i am THOROUGHLY IMPRESSED with the hp 1210
first off, the size of this all-in-one grabs you. its about the size of most normal inkjet printers, and its a rectangular design that is very tidy and compact. i narrowed my choice for the all-in-one to the hp1210 and the epson cx3200. i copied/printed with both of them in the store, and the hp was more accurate and truer to the image of my drivers license, which is what i made a copy of. you have to buy your own usb cable though. ive used the copy, scan, and print features all with flawless execution. i scanned a pic with the hp software, then printed it out, and i was VERY impressed with the results. the paper is front loading also, which is what i prefer. the layout of the buttons is simple and streamlined. theyre all clearly labeled and designed perfectly. the top flips up to reveal the glass surface on which your scanned images will go and where the document youre copying from goes. its awesome! if there is one minor drawback, its the software. while it is practically a complete suite of programs, its almost TOO much and is more cumbersome than it should be. in my opinion, peripheral software should be super easy to use, and you should be able to get in, get what you need from it, and get out as fast as possible. overall, however, the 1210 is GREAT. im very happy with this purchase!
79 overall a fantastic package
Overall this HP multifunction is a fantastic deal. Most regular printers will cost this much, and half of them won't do as good a job.
Pros:
-EXCELLENT photo printing on photo paper - looks like a professional print, and no need for a different photo cartridge.
-Easy copying - one button, very fast
-Fast text printing
-Quick hi-res scans
-Fairly efficient with ink usage.
Cons:
-I found the HP scanning software to be a little slow and clunky
-Doesn't allow you to reverse-print documents, so you have to reshuffle them
-Photo printing a little bit slow, though that depends on the size
None of the cons were deal-breakers for me. For a hundred bucks, you get the same resolution as HP's dedicated photo printers, plus a nice scanner and copier. Also, I like the fact that my desk doesn't look like it has a Xerox machine sitting on it - the PSC 1210 is much smaller and "hipper" looking than a lot of huge multi-function machines. I would definitely recommend!
80 Has problems
While it works great as a scanner/copier, the weakest part of HP PSC 1210 is the printer. I get paper jams almost everyday (I had another HP printer and it didn't have this problem). Another annoyance factor is the scanner software. In my opinion, the scanner software is downright stupid. Unlike other scanner programs in preview mode, when you preview and zoom in to crop, you have to rescan the document. Wouldn't it have been easier AND faster for the program to just zoom in on the image itself?
Well, all I can say now is I got what I paid for. I think it would have been better if I bought the scanner/copier separately and paid more to get a better printer.

82 avoid avoid avoid
First of all, HP had to ship me a replacement when my first printer didn't work. Turns out, it wasn't working because the printer won't work unless you stick the faceplate label on the printer...yes, you read this right...you have to stick the label which has a code attached to the underside or the printer won't work. This is not a great idea if you're trying to make sure the printer works or if you are just trying it out. You certainly don't want to attach a permanent label if you need to return it. Oh well. Anyway, while this printer may make nice b&w copies and printouts, I'll never know how good it is at anything else because that is all I was able to get to work. HP forces you to install a bunch of software that you don't necessarily need or want. You aren't given the option of picking or choosing. And you can't uninstall them without uninstalling the drivers. It also forces you to run their software at startup and it sits in your systray the entire time. All this for a printer? You've got to be kidding. And I was never able to get it to scan anything. I had read a few reviews saying that the HP software was pretty bad. Now I'm a believer. I'm going back to Canon. One person complained that Canon support is not toll-free. Well, be forewarned, neither is HP.
83 Can't print in black and white or grey scale
Driver doesn't allow you to print in black and white or grey scale. This makes printing web pages a bit difficult unless you don't mind spending alot on consumables. Contacted HP about problem, they don't seem to mind...
84 Compact, Easy to use, Great quality at this price!
I am very happy to have HP quality for the copy/print functions at this price; tossing in a scan capability at this price is pure bonus. If that fits your use pattern, this is the machine you want. Buy it and be happy.
I have a low volume demand for copies and prints in my office. I rate highly ease of training and ease of use. I like the small footprint of this unit. I did check the scan dpi before I bought and I knew that it's not photo-quality scanning but for this price no all-in-one product can be expected to give you that. Scanning is my "third" priority use.
85 Excellent printer, good copier, fair scanner
Okay, so this is HP's newest all-in-one.
As expected of these All-in-one's not all features are equally good, so I'll review each of them separately.
Printer: A+
This is real Photo-printer. I printed 3 4"x6" photos captured by my digital camera at 1600x1200 resolution, on the FREE sample Premium Plus Photo Glossy provided. Result? Absolute TOP notch. There's simply no way anyone can tell that the photos were not developed at a Kodak studio.
Copier: A-
You can use the copier without having to turn on your computer. I copied a color photo (of a face) in black and white mode, and it looked pretty decent. Document copy was excellent. Copying great photos (sunset) is not so good because of the scanner... see next item.
Scanner: B-
I tried scanning a stunning sunset photo taken from my SLR film camera. The result was disappointing. There are noticeable scan lines in the scanned image. It looked bad when "Set as desktop background". Didnt even try printing it. Text scanning was ok though...
Package: A-
Contents include: Printer, Power-cord, Free Glossy paper samples, good imaging software. All you need after getting your printer is a USB cable (why can't they bundle it??). I picked up a $7 USB2 6ft cable at local [store].
Overall Verdict: A
For the price, it beats HP's own photo printers hands down. (and they don't even copy/scan). So if you need a photo printer, with a decent copier and ok scanner, PSC1210 is the way to go. Not to mention that its the smallest All-in-one available. However, if you're looking to scan top-notch images to burn on a CD, invest in a standalone scanner. My friend has a epson perfection which scanned the sunset shot just fine.
