HP PhotoSmart 100 Portable Inkjet Printer

Compras Nikon
Bluetooth
With your new, easy-to-use, compact photo printer HP PhotoSmart 100 printer you can print beautiful photos from your digital camera's memory card without a computer, print an index page that shows all the photos on your digital camera's memory card, print 10 cm x 15 cm photos quickly and easily. You can connect your printer to your computer to save your photos to the hard drive, enhance your photos, share your photos with friends and family via e-mail, and use your photos in creative projects.
Forget having your digital photos printed by someone else. With the PhotoSmart 100 inkjet printer, you can print full-color 4-by-6-inch photos at up to 2,400 x 1,200 dpi on premium photo paper, or at lower resolutions (but still great-looking) on other papers.

Print directly from your digital camera with a CompactFlash, SmartMedia, or Sony Memory Stick memory card, or connect to your computer using the built-in USB port. HP photo imaging software is included. Printing is a bit slow, with a 4-by-6 photo requiring just under three minutes, but quality takes time.

The printer has a markedly compact design, with dimensions of only 8.8 by 4.3 by 4.7 inches, and it weighs less than three pounds, so you can take it with you when you're on the go. Sorry, Mac users, the HP 100 is only compatible with PCs: Windows 98, 2000 Professional, Me, XP Home, and XP Professional. The printer is backed by a one-year warranty, with the option to extend it to three years at additional cost.

1 initially look awesome. but it fades over time.
love the compactness and stylish look of this printer.
initial quality of the print out is comparable to regular photo prints or perhaps even better. compact flash drive built in is absolutely convinient.

However... after putting print picture on my friz door for 2 month. skin tone color has changed to completely green and other colors faded to dark purple. it wasn't exposed to direct sunlight neither. other pictures all suffered discoloration after 2 month. even the ones that were kept well in a frame. it was all printed on premiere papers that came with the printer.

is this the limitation of inkjet technology everyone already aknowledged prior to purchasing? or am I the only one suffering from discolorization and fade?

2 Produces great pictures, but be careful about handling them
The picture quality is supreme, and no complaints about the printer overall, except for the ink door, which won't stay shut.

The photopaper used on this printer, however, can be easily damaged, so care must be taken on handling it after your pictures are printed. Perhaps I'll find a 3rd party paper, or HP will improve theirs.

3 Great Printer
I've this printer for about 4 months now. I love it. I also have an HP880c for our regular everyday printing. We also use that printer for pictures, but the clarity and ease of use is nothing compared to the HP PhotoSmart 100. At my cousins baptism we printed pictures from 3 different digital camera's (Canon, Sony, and Fuji). Everyone was impressed with the ease of use, how quick it printed and how good the pictures look.

It only prints wallet, 3x5 and 4x6 pictures, however, we really don't print many 5x7's or larger. If we do I just use our other printer.

If you have a digital camera this is a great printer to go along with it. Shop around and you can find a great price too.

4 Digital DarkRoom
With the Olympus CamMedia software that comes with most Olympus digital cameras and the HP100 printer you can create photographic quality prints that are a better quality (and easier!) than a traditional darkroom. I use an Olympus 2.1 megapixel camera and I have gone through several packs of 60 count 4 X 6 inch paper;I am delighted with the results from this printer. If you want a bordered print use the 4X6 inch size; if you want the borderless print, use the 4 X 6 1/2 inch paper size. You won't be disappointed with this printer.
5 GREAT
I just got the printer HP 130 two days ago and I am loving it! It's so easy, prints great pictures and I CAN TAKE IT WITH ME. It also works with my camera. What a blast I will have at this years family Christmas!!
6 I LOVE IT.
The Photo Smart 100 is easy to set up, Easy to use, Works well with both my computer and Memory cards. It makes wonderful 4 x 6 prints. I cannot tell the difference between the HP Photo Smart 100 prints (From my digital camera) and the ones I get back from the photo lab (from my 35 Millimeter SLR). The software that comes with it is good as well. I am very satisfied with this product.
7 Ditch the photo lab---get this printer!
I first read about this printer on a return trip from London in February. I had taken my first digital camera on the trip (a Canon S30---awesome), and had 140 images I was anxious to print. After reading the reviews on Amazon[.com], I bought the printer and printed the photos myself. Oh my gosh---they looked like postcards! (Even my friends said so). I printed over 200 photos from the London trip alone, for me and for friends who were on the trip.

Since then, I've probably printed another 300-400 photos on this little gadget. I take it on vacation with me and print photos for everyone. The color is still great, the images are sharp, and the quality is amazing.

Cost-wise, it's a pretty decent deal. I get roughly 100 photographs for every ink-jet cartridge I use. And I've tested all the photopapers, and the best one I've found is [local store] Premium High Gloss Photo Paper (even better than Kodak Ultima paper). I buy it in 8 1/2" x 11" size and cut it myself (about [$$$] per photo). And of course, the convenience of seeing your pictures instantly is worth it.

At least 6 people I know have RUN out to buy this printer after seeing it. You could just order it from Amazon[.com] and have it shipped free!

8 Isnt it just the cutest thing!!!
This printer is extremely light in weight and it is easy to take with me on trips. My turn around time from taking a digital picture to getting it on a 4x6 is around 3 minutes. However if you are not in a hurry to get the pics it runs a little cheaper to buy prints from ....
9 This is the best 4X6 printer yet!!!!!!
Photosmart 100 is brilliant, it has 2400X1200 resolution, but there is a new printer Photosmart 130. The price is THE SAME. Photosmart 130 can do much sharper pictures 4800X1200, and it can read 4 king of cards. It's print speed is a little paster. (full page for 2 minuter). And The gratest thing about it is that ink can be refilled [very inexpensively] and the quality stays the same. HP says that it is not recomended to refill the cartrege blablabla.... But i gave it a try and for [money] I could refill it 12 times.(I had to buy a new ink cartrage after 5 refills.) The quality stayd the same. It is 100% the same. I gave it to a friend he could not tell the difference, so did I. I saved [money] every time I refilled. Cartrege price is [money], but refill price is [money]. The quality is great and with each refill i could print about 90-100 pictures. and the quality of pictures is great. You don't have to buy a wire for [more money], to print it from computer, you can just load imagis from digital camera to computer, and then from computer back to digital camera, and print without connecting printer back to computer... Cool photos. The best 4X6 in the world.

11 Vacation Photos at your fingertips
We purchased the HP Photosmart 100 Portable inkjet printer to go with our new digital camera, we took the printer on vacation!!! we printed our vacation photos and the quality is just fabulous. We were able to share our photos with friends and family and not have to wait. This is definately a keeper!!!!!!!
12 Kiss the Photolab GOODBYE!
I have waited a long time for this printer. I frequently take photos at family functions and then have to print them at home or email copies to family members. No more. Now I take this portable printer with me and print photos on demand. It is extremely light (3lbs) and produces BEAUTIFUL prints that rival the photo lab.

True, it only prints on 4x6 paper, but you can do full 4x6 prints or wallet sized photos. If you want enlargements, don't waste ink or paper, use a photo service like Ofoto or Yahoo Pictures.

Yes, price is an issue on this one. Photos cost between 60 and 80 cents to print, but you are only printing the photos YOU WANT!--You will not find a higher quality printer for photos with this many features.

PROS: Lightweight, easy to use, accepts Memory Stick, Compact Flash and Smart Media cards, Exceptional quality

CONS: Prints can be expensive if printing large quantities, no battery supply, only AC.

13 Jeff's review
It is the perfect accessorie for a digital camera. You can use it with your PC or print right from a memory card. It almost turns your digital camera into a instant camera. The quality of the pictures is hard to beleive with the small size and lite weight of the printer.
14 HP Photo Printer
This is a great printer . Worth every dollar . Great pictures . Very professional .
15 Does what it says, but....
it does no more. I am an evolving HP enthusiast (or is that Compaq now?), and I enjoyed playing with the HP-100, but I cannot understand the value of this single-purpose photo printer. For about the same money, you can buy the HP-1000, which will not only take your photo data (directly from your camera or its memory card) and print it on the same 4" x 6" photo paper at about the same speed, but will also allow you to print your photos on 5" x 7" or 8" x 10" photo paper. Moreover, the P-1000 line also function as printers. You can hook them up via parallel or USB cables and have a very serviceable day-to-day printer to boot. Lastly, while I do sometimes print my photos at home, it may be cheaper and it is certainly more durable (fading issues are as real with inkjet photo printing as they were on 1st generation, thermal fax machines!) to send them off to an online photo lab.
16 HP PHOTOSMART 100
I HAVE THIS PRINTER ABOUT 3 OR MORE MONTHS. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT. I LOVE THE MATTE FINISH OF THE HP PREMIUM PLUS PHOTO PAPER (glossy). INK AND PAPER BOTH ARE EXPENSIVE. I WOULD NOT TRADE IT FOR NOTHING.

17 Review of HP Photosmart 100
I own a 2.1 mega pixel digital camera and this printer makes a great companion. Forget about buying/developing film anymore, the HP Photosmart 100 prints excellent quality pictures that can easily be mistaken for photographs to the casual eye.

One noticeable feature is the compact size of this printer. It fits nicely on my already crowded desk. Keep in mind that you'll need at least 6 to 8" of clearence behind the printer for the photopaper to feed properly. Too bad the maximum size paper it will accept is 4x6.

Mac users are out of luck since this printer is only compatible with PCs, but another cool feature is that you don't neccessarily need a computer to use this printer since you can print directly from CompactFlash, SmartMedia, or a Sony Memory Stick memory card. PC users still have the option of using USB, but you'll need to purchase a USB cable if you don't have a spare.

If you own a digital camera and are looking for an alternative to film, consider this printer. You won't be able to print out any Word documents with it, but you can start displaying and sharing those digital images that are starting to fill your hard drive. :)

18 Awesome pictures
Just got back from a vacation in Key West. Brought this printer with me to print my pictures they came out very good very impressed with printer
19 I am not happy with this photo printer at all
I was very excited about this printer at first until I used it.For me it works properly maybe 1 our of 3 times, the photo paper jams frequently and the quality of the printed photos is not great. When I use mine I always find myself getting very frustrated and wishing that I had bought a higher quality photo printer so I am not pulling my hair out every time I try to print out pictures from my digital camera. The price is good but I would recommend buying a better quality printer.
20 WOW !
I buy a lot of gadgets, because I'm a guy addicted to gadgets.
If a gadget interests me,...I don't put much research or thought into the process - I just buy. Consequently, more than few of my gadgets end up in the closet or attic, because they just don't perform like hype on the box indicates. After 2 uses of the Photo Smart 100, my response is WOW! Great photos, easy to produce, respectable print time, relatives in disbelief, envious coworkers... It was just $[money], and has turned my Cannon Powershot A20 digital camera into a package that produces 35MM quality photos, that I can print at home - in minutes.
21 A must have!!
I had been struggling with my computer to print out pictures for several months when I found an ad for this little printer. I had no idea that there was anything like it out there! I wanted something that would be fast and easy and could just print out a set of pictures without having to go through a photo program. This printer has made printing SOOOO easy for me! The quality is terrific and I absolutely love it! The fact that I don't have to hook it up to my computer at all is a huge bonus. I just plug it in when I want to print something out and I get an instant photo. This comes in real handy when you are traveling or want to just print out one picture real quick without going through the computer hassles. Of course, if I have a picture that I really like and want to enlarge or crop, I can still work with it on the computer to get just the shot I want. I don't want to do that for every single picture though. This great little printer has changed the way I feel about my digital camera. It has made it so much fun and not a chore. I highly recommend it for anyone who wants fast, easy, quality photos.
22 a little baby printer that can do big things
The quality of the 4X6 prints that this tiny little printer can produce is awesome! Being able to just put your memory card in to get pictures without connecting to the pc, is a nice feature.
23 Borderless 4 x 6 Prints. Portable. No PC Required.
I had always wanted to get into digital photography; but my PC was old, and I didn't want to buy a new one! So when HP introduced their new PS 100 printer, which prints directly from a camera's memory card -- no PC required -- I dove in with both feet first!

I purchased this HP PS 100 printer -- along with an Olympus C-700 digital camera -- and I've been very happy. The PS 100 makes bold and beautiful 4" x 6" prints that are every bit as sharp as those from a full-size printer.

As an additional convenience, both my camera and printer use DPOF (digital print order format) which allows for one-button printing. I can crop (and select) the photos I want to print on the camera's rear LCD screen -- pop the camera's Smart Media card into the printer -- and then output borderless 4" x 6" photos just by hitting "print" (with no scrolling necessary to find the right shot, since the PS 100 always calls up the DPOF pictures first). What could be easier?

With the PS 100, printing photos is so simple -- I now find myself giving away pictures (as gifts) to friends and family (something I had done only on rare occasion before). I've even taken the PS 100 to family gatherings -- where I've handed out photos on the spot (which everyone thought was cool!).

The PS 100 uses familiar ink jet cartridges, and is much less expensive to purchase than competing photo printers from Canon, Olympus, and Sony (all of which use a much more expensive dye sublimation technology). The PS also prints a full-size 4" x 6" snapshot, (whereas the others, such as the Canon and the Olympus, make only prints that are quite a bit smaller). The PS 100 is also the only printer in the bunch to accommodate all of the major memory formats (Compact Flash, Smart Media and Memory Stick); something the other printers will do only with an additional PC card adapter.

(For those of you more advanced, printing from your PC is an available option with the printer's built in USB connection and supplied software on disc. The 4" x 6" paper size template also transfers over to other applications, like MS Word, enabling one to print documents from the PS 100 on to 4" x 6" note cards; which, for example, I've used to prepare notes for speeches.)

The HP PS 100 is the absolute easiest way to get into digital photo printing. And when the next family gathering rolls around -- you won't want to leave home without it!

24 easy
very easy to use.just plug it in insert card and print pictures. i also like the size, about as big as a clock radio. going to bring to key west with me on vacation.
25 "Superb" results from such a small printer
I purchased this printer because I own two digital cameras and no computer to down load the pictures. After reading a mazagine I came across the ad for the Hp 100 but I was skeptical on purchasing it until I got some more info or reviews on the product. After researching Amazon.com and Cnet I decided to take a chance and purchase one. It took about five minutes to set it up. I printed a test page on the plain card included and then a thumb nail print from one of my compact flash cards and I wasn't Impressed with them. I Closed my eyes and proceeded to print my first picture, once the printer stopped I opened My eyes. I was shocked at the results they were very impressive, I kept looking at the picture trying to find flaws. I then printed a few more. I couldn't put the pictures down, it was like having your very own photo shop. None of my friends could tell that I printed the photos from a printer until I told them, it was that good! I highly recommend this printer for anyone that has a digital camera. It's light an compact excepts three different types of cards with multi voltage so you can take it anywhere and it also connects to your computer. I'm glad I did my home work and took that chance on purchasing this superb little printer.
26 Photosmart is really smart!
HP did a good thing here......the photos are acceptable in spite of the low resolution of my camcorder 'still' picture feature. The smaller 2.5" x 3.25" turn out super. Have not experienced any problems with it....and are using it regularly now.It was shipped promptly and arrived in excellent condition.
27 I *LOVE* THIS PRINTER!
The title says it all. The pictures from this printer come out pretty quickly and are absolutely GORGEOUS! I love not having to trim the photos, since it does only hold 4 x 6 paper. I'm certain more companies will soon copy HP's perfect companion to digital photography. It's genious!

These pictures are BETTER than lab prints for me. My pale, blond haired daughter always looked like she had black eyes from the dark circles under her eyes in lab prints. The HP 100 improved that tremendously. Also, my lab prints were always dark in the background of the subject. Again, this is no longer a problem. My pictures are now bright and beautiful! I'm not sure if that's from the camera itself (Kodak 3600) or the printer, since I got them within one week of each other.

This printer is small enough that it fits inside my tower cabinet. It doesn't clutter up the workspace. I was deceived by thinking by USB camera cord would work on this USB printer. It didn't, and I had to buy the...USB cord anyway. But I am not complaining!

I took my memory card right to the store and asked to sample the quality of prints. It was no problem for the salesperson, and guess what? They had a sale made within 5 minutes of my coming through the front doors.

I overheard my usually un-impressable husband talking about this printer to someone on the phone. That means something.

HP should refund my money, as I've told everyone I know how much I love this printer. I'm sure other photo printers are excellent too, but the benefit of NO TRIMMING makes this one stand apart. I read Amazon reviews all the time, especially on video games, but I have never loved a product so much that I wanted to post a review.

You really need to SEE to BELIEVE these excellent pictures!

28 good product
I just bought the sony 707 digital camera and wanted something that would print photos easily without taking much space on my desk. The product works well once it calibrates itself after priniting the first page. Product does not come with a usb cable and only a few hp blank sheets.
29 Great!
I love my hp photosmart 100, its extremely compact and portable and prints excellent pictures, the colors are amazing! i recommend this to everyone because its so handy, and you dont even need your pc! just put your camera's compact flash, smart media, or memorystick cards directly into the printer and you are set to go. it also has great features like printing an index page so you know which pictures you want, and the test page lets you know how much ink is left. this is a great product!

and to the person who was upset that it didnt print envelopes...HELLO its a PHOTO PRINTER...you need to reasearch things before you buy them..its just for photos..not envelopes! duh!!

30 Seeing Is Believing
After phone calls, questions, and tons of reviews I have ended my search for the perfect printer to match with my HP 318. My wife and kid must have thought that I was crazy, after taking back camera after camera only to find out I only needed a better printer. This little HP more than backs up the near perfect 5 Star rating. It was a snap to setup and the quality had me comparing the pictures I printed( the first few) to some taken with my more expensive 35mm. I must admit the reviews on this site is what really steered me this way,and I just had to write to says thanks and give my two thumbs way up for this fine little machine.
31 This is a "must buy" for amateur digital photographers
I purchased a digital camera last year because my children are very young and my wife insisted. Yet, we still take most of our pictures from film because our regular color printer only takes "so-so" photos and it takes too long to print 4x6 pictures (assuming you figure out the software). Accordingly, our digital camera is often left at home. I wanted to change this by purchasing a better photo printer. I was looking at the HP 1315, but was waiting for the price to come down from $400. The other day, however, I saw the HP 100 on display at COMP USA (price--$180)and fell in love with it for nothing more that it's small size and dedicated use for printing 4x6 pictures. This is one of the few computer gadgets I have purchased on impulse. Boy, did I luck out. I was printing professional quality photos from my compact flash media card less than five minutes after removing the printer from the box. My inlaws were impressed with the photo quality and soon began making orders for my digital photos. My digital camera has now moved up to be the number 1 camera. When photo paper and print cartridges go down, we will probably abandon all of our film cameras. Finally, the HP photo printing software is superior to many similar software program in terms of ease of use, including Adobe PhotoDeluxe Home Edition.
32 Beautiful pictures
Just bought the HP 100 printer and love it. Have always downloaded my digital pictures through laptop to printer with excellent results, however, saw the HP 100 and thought it would be small enough to pack to take on vacation. What a picture - just as good as my HP 1220 printer at 4x6 size, even though it only prints 4x6, it's fun to take vacation pictures and immediately pass around the printed results - people are awed by the quality of such a small printer.
33 outstanding
Thank you for the wonderful photo of my nephew. Definately use him again!!
34 Excellent Quality & A Terrific Value
I have been looking for a photo printer since I got my digital camera, and I finally settled on the HP100. I have to say that I have found nothing but pleasant surprises since the day I took it out of the box. The 2400x1200 dpi resolution creates wonderful richly colored prints, and does so while being surprisingly affordable. The wide array of input options really proves that some engineer was paying attention to the consumers needs when they put this little gadget together. With slots for Compact Flash, SamrtMedia, and Memory Stick combined with the USB connection to your PC there is nothing to keep you from using this printer in one way or another. All you have to do is take you memory card out of the camera, slap it into the corresponding port, and you are ready to print. Of course, no product is without flaws, but here is the rundown as I see it:

Pros:
Compact Size
Versatile input options
2400x1200 dpi
Prints 4x6 (borderless), wallet size, and thumbnail prints
Great color depth
Easily navigated menus
Doesn't require a PC connection
Affordable

Cons:
High quality printing is a little slow
Only prints on 4x6 paper
Ink cartridge could last a little longer

Overall, this is a great little printer that I would recommend to anyone. If you are looking for a printer that will let you print many different size prints, then you should look elsewhere. But if you only want to make 4x6 inch prints, without spending a ton of money, then this is a perfect companion to any digital camera.

35 Yes !! I Would Buy IT Again..Again..and Again
This little compact printer only does one thing (4x6 photos) and it does a fantastic job...Perfect for traveling with excellent photo quality... You will love IT..
36 Great printer
I just bought an HP 318 Digital Camera and I've been really pleased with the quality of the pictures for the price of the camera (it's much better quality, more user friendly, and a whole lot cheaper than my friend's older model Mavica was). When I bought my camera, I checked out this little printer and thought it was a little pricey - but decided to buy it anyhow because we have have a lot of family get togethers and everyone wants pictures. Since then, I've printed pictures for everyone, on the spot, and they were amazed at the quality, ease of use, and tickled not to have to wait for pictures to come in the mail! It's well worth adding to your collection of new-age digital equipment. Shopping around, you can also find good buys on photo paper and inkjet refill kits which makes printing your own photos a whole lot cheaper than having having someone else print them for you (and it saves time and money all the way around!). Also, I keep mine in the original box so I can put in the trunk of the car and take it with me whenever I'll be away from home for awhile taking snapsohots. Works great, love it!
37 Very good printer for the first time user
I got my first digital camera (hp612) for christmas and wanted to print them out. When I went to my local best buy I saw this little printer on display. I decided to try and and I was very pleased with the quality and how easy it was to set up. After realizing that the printer did not come with a USB cable and running out to buy one, very annoying, I was banging out high quality 4 x 6 pics. in no time. My friends were even amazed at the quality of the pictures I could produce. If you are looking for a great photo only printer without a lot of hassles to use, then this printer is right for you.
38 Forget printing envelopes
I purchased this printer in Aug. 2001. From the start it would not print envelopes.Jammed every one or printed crooked. After numerous non toll free phone calls to HP, who put me thru the wringer on the phone, trying various things to get it to print an envelope, I got a replacement printer.Guess what? It won't print envelopes either ! Same issue ! I have spent over [price]in long distance trying to get HP to send me another printer.I have given up & am turning it all over to my state's consumer affairs office for action. Maybe they can get HP to stand by their product !Prints pictures great....just NOT envelopes !!

40 A Gift for travelers!
A thoughtful Christmas present. Perfect for traveling with excellent photo quality. We have an Olympus Camedia C-700 Ultra Zoom Digital Camera. This is a great product! A wonderful gift!
41 Easy to use, great color and convenient
I recently purchased this printer because I have a digital camera. Until recently I didn't use the camera much because I wasn't sure what to do with the photos. Once they are on the PC you need a good quality photo printer to print them out. I can now do that with this printer. Also, the convenience of printing from the SmartMedia card is great for me because my family lives 1500 miles away and I can now take pictures and print copies for each of us without the hassle of buying film, having it developed, requesting multiple reprints, mailing, etc. It's also small enough that I can pack it in a catalog case that holds my laptop, printer, digital camera, and 4x6 photo scanner. If you're into photography and/or mobility and need a high-quality, quick and easy photo printer, then this is the one to buy. I absolutely love it!!
42 It is good little printer
Having just bought a Olympus D-150 camera, I went out and got this printer. I like the way you can print from the memory cards. The index printing is a great feature too. Found it at Ritz Camera for 99 bucks. For that price, I definitly recommend it.
43 HP's hidden little secret....
For Christmas I bought my daughter an Hp camera model 318 and an HP photosmart 100 printer. My wife and I have the expensive fugi 40i camera's and we were impressed with the HP 318, easy to use quality photos on the camera display......and then we decided to print them on her new HP photosmart 100 printer. WOW, you will not believe this printer. Prints from input of almost any smart card, sony stick, etc. directly into the printer worked super. And then I decided to also hook it up to my USB port. I loaded the software disc and it was great. Works as well as any top quality software, such as photodeluxe. Try it...don't belive me , read the reviews below....this printer is GREAT. I also took regular photopaper paper and cut it to the 4x6 paper and it worked great in this printer.
44 HP100 Photo Printer is great!!
If you have a digital camera and want to print out your favorite photo (either off your flash card or off your hard drive) you'll love this little machine.

Prints on 4x6 paper (reasonably priced). Will print all thumbnails off your flash card and number your photos so you can choose which enlarged photo you want. You can print sizes smaller and the photo quality is excellent for the price. Rather quick print and VERY quiet during printing, VERY easy set up with useful software tools. Out of the box and hook up quick, VERY NICE.

45 What a terrificly useful printer!
This is yet another great idea from H-P. The 100 PhotoSmart prints beautiful photos very quickly. Setup took a few minutes and I was printing on Christmas Eve. I took it to the family Christmas dinner and everyone was amazed. Nearly instant, high-quality photos of my grand-niece opening presents, family shots and everyone getting in the picture. I am very happy with the high resolution, borderless prints and the ease of use with the H-P 100. I can't see any need for my dusty 35mm camera anymore. Digital is the only way to go, and take the H-P 100 PhotoSmart along for the ride.
46 Great little printer
This is all you really need to know. This little printer is a great companion to any digital camera user. It prints 4 x6 and wallet size photos of astounding quality and color. It is also extremely easy to use, had it up and running in 5 minutes. Note this is not a printer to use for general computing but an adjunct to those with digital cameras. It takes smartmedia, compactflash and memory sticks directly and you can print without the PC. Again I can't emphasize how easy it is to use and how amazing the quality of the photos is. It's a lot of fun too, because it is so portable you can bring it anywhere.
47 Fast and easy
The new product development team at HP really did a good job on this one! VERY nice pictures....as good as any other photoprinter that I have seen. VERY easy to use either with the computer or as a standalone and printing off your memory card.
Great software package that you'll actually use !

I have a number of photo quality printers and I find myself printing 4x6 prints 99% of the time and this printer really is easy to use... no fusing with paper size, print size etc.

Pros:
+Easy to use
+Great picture quality
+Can be used with or without a computer (a feature I am using a lot more than I thought I would !)
+Uses only 1 printer cartridge and 1 size paper (4x6)...keeps things simple !

Negatives:
- HP print longevity (lightfastness). You will need to send your prints out to a commercial service like Ofoto if you want to put them in a long term album. Prints will fade in a few years...fine if your just showing them around the office and rotating them through your frames etc. This is a problem with ALL inkjet printers, not just HP. Some claim longer "lightfastness" (like Epson) but only time will tell ! Note: I have some HP prints on my office wall that are almost 5 years old with no fading...so ????

Bottom Line:GET IT ! If you want a quick way to print 4x6 prints from your digital camera to show your friends around the office and send to relatives (who really don't keep those pics of your kids that long anyway !) the P100 is the ticket. You'll find yourself printing off your data card (vs. the computer) a lot more than you think you will ! Excellent quality prints that beat the 1 hour print.

48 If you own a digital camera, you want this!
This little compact printer only does one thing (4x6 photos) and it does a fantastic job. My wife owns one of the older model HP digital cameras (C200), I believe we paid a few hundred for the camera about a year and a half ago and it was one of the most inexpensive mega-pixel models. I was skeptical that the pictures the demo unit produced may only be possible by higher dollar camera, but the photos this printer produces from my camera are still better quality than those of my two hundred dollar (non-digital) 35mm pictures developed at the local Kodak lab. To test for any bias I might have had my wife and I had three family members look though a photo album we made containing 35mm "developed" photos and photos printed from this printer... They all guessed the 35mm photos were the printed ones because the photos this printer produced were much better quality. Now, enoguh about the quality, which in the words of my brother in-law is "simply amazing".

The printer works stand-alone, plug your flash ROM in and you can jump to a specific picture number and print, the interface could not get any easier! You can also print prrof sheets (4x6 with multiple thumb-nail pictures). The bundled software allows you to take pictures off your hard drive and send them to the PhotoSmart 100 though the USB cable (cable isn't included unfortunately) USB is the only option for connection.

Printer includes 6 blank 4x6 photo sheets, and 1 cartridge (HP claims you can get 120 pictures out of a single ink jet cart, I've been told 100 is more realistic), paper is also priced reasonable. Overall you do save money, you have unsurpased convienence and the quality is excellent. There are few products I would recommend this highly; if you own a digital camera, buy a PhotoSmart 100!

49 Gem of a printer
Having just recently purchased this printer, I'm extremely surprised at how happy I am. I have messed around with a lot of Inkjet printers for the purpose of making 4x6 photos. However I was always disappointed with the difficulty of just getting the picture output on the paper correctly. Also, larger format photo printers typically cost more and require special 6 color ink. Seeing that I usually print B/W 90% of the time, it's a waste of money.

This is where the Photosmart 100 solves the problem. First of all it's a quality printer. It comes with a small world wide power supply that allows you to go anywhere in the world and make pictures from your Digital Camera. It's compact, and fast enough to make printing pictures a breeze. If your camera supports DPOF (a standard for imprinting print info on the digital media) all you have to do is select the photos you want printed on your camera, number of copies each and you are done. Load paper into the printer, insert the media, and press print. All your photos print w/o any more work on your part.

This is my first HP printer and I'm impressed with their packaging and software. The printer comes with a CD that includes all the necessary drivers and software for all HP printers and for most operating systems. Unfortunately this printer doesn't support Mac OS, but it does support Windows XP. This printer also doubles as a media reader allowing you to load photos from the media onto the PC.

I'm still uncertain as to what the cost per page is. I have a feeling that it will end up being about the same as using online photo services such as Ofoto or Shutterfly. A replacement Ink Cartridge costs around (current price), and HP paper is about (current price) for 20 sheets. I'm guessing that the ink cartridge lasts for about 100 photos which brings the cost per page to about .65 cents a page. That's a bit more than online which is around .50 cents a page (excluding shipping). I find that the quality is about the same, so for a few extra cents a page you get a photo in a matter of minutes rather than days. However, for large print jobs I'd still recommend the online photo shops.

Anyway, it's a great value for the money and it will sure to be an excellent traveling companion for vacations.

50 Beautiful color photos from an inexpensive printer
I have to rate the hp photosmart 100 printer 5 stars gives beautiful quality printing pictures, i do recommend u also use the ink and board clean hp paper which u can get on line from hp website at a cheaper price,,,,, take it from me i never expected the fine quality and beautiful printed pictures, for this price, i have a jvc camcorder they wanted 600 for the printer but im glad i found this cause its well worth it,,,, BUY IT PEOPLE
51 Very Impressive Product
I've had this printer for four days and am now prepared to come to some conclusions: This is an extremely well-made product and appears to be far better made than the other PhotoSmart printers, namely the 1000,1115,1215 & 1315. The output is nothing less than stellar given that it only produces 4x6 prints. It is obviously made for a very specific purpose which includes taking it with you when you travel. (HP offers a travel case on its website.)

The print mechanism of the PS 1000, 1215 etc. seems to be very poorly made with lots of plastic parts which ultimately will result in a premature death of some type. It doesn't surprise me that their have been numerous reports of paper jams in the reivews of the other PhotoSmart printers. I've considered owning one of the other printers but this latent flaw prohibits me from buying any other printer. The HP 100 has a very solid feel and efficiently takes the paper in and processes it. It appears that a paper jam is highly unlikely with this product.

The only reason I don't give this a five star review is because of the need for a smaller ink cartridge, having less than half the ink of the #78, yet costing the same. The convience of this printer doesn't come without this added cost. To my knowledge there isn't a larger, more economical cartridge or a two pack offering some savings. However, the high quality of the product ultimately prevails in my mind and leaves me with an optimistic, confident feeling that I have a very good product and that it will remain so for some time to come.

52 Handy, easy and convenient
This little printer is so handy, you can take it anywhere there's power. Print your pictures out immediately without a computer. Set up DPOF on your camera, plug in the card and hit the print button. All you have to do is add paper and let it do its job. It does a beautiful printing job and does it quickly for the space it takes up. I really like this little printer. It also saves buying photo cartridges for your big printer and switching them out.
53 HP100 PhotoSmart Printer
This a great little printer if you are looking for something with limited usage (it accepts 4x6 paper only). I purchased it to compliment my desk printer. I was looking for a printer I can take with me on vacation, to weddings, family gatherings, business events, etc., and this little machine fits the bill to a "T". You just take the memory card from your digital camera, (it accepts SmartMedia, CompactFlash Type I and II, and Memory Stick cards), and plug it into the printer, and away you go. When you plug in your memory card the display panel on top of the printer indicates how many photos are on the card. You can print an index page of thumbnail size proofs of all the pictures on your memory card, then selectively print just the photos you want. Optional print sizes are 4x6, Wallet (2.5x3.25), or Thumbnail (0.7x0.9). You can choose to print a single, or multiples of the same photo. You can also choose to print a range of photos (e.g. print single or multiples of index numbers 21 through 25). What a boon for taking with you on vacation! If you fill your memory card, you can make a print of each photo when you get back to the hotel, erase the card and start over taking new pictures. When you get home you can scan the prints into your computer, with the option of making enlargements. At special events, guests can go home with a souvenir print of the event. I am very pleased with the quality of the prints and the convenience and ease of use of the printer. You will only get borderless prints if you use the HP 4x6 Premium Photo paper with the tear off tab. Other brand 4x6 papers will print with a narrow border. The printer's compact size and weight (just under 3lbs) make it extremely portable, and I like the instant gratification of a print without having to take the time to store them in the computer first, (also a great point for those who are thinking of a digital camera, but don't have a computer). The only thing I would have liked is a double power source (i.e. rechargeable battery as well as AC), but that, of course, would increase the price. There is a padded carrying case made specifically to fit this printer. It has a front zippered pocket to hold the AC adapter, a spare ink cartridge, a box of printing paper, and a pocket to store prints and/or user's manual. Overall, I am delighted with the HP100, and plan to purchase two more to give as Christmas gifts.

Quote of the Day:

I don't get no respect.

The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy has a few things to say on
the subject of towels.
Most importantly, a towel has immense psychological value. For
some reason, if a non-hitchhiker discovers that a hitchhiker has his towel
with him, he will automatically assume that he is also in possession of a
toothbrush, washcloth, flask, gnat spray, space suit, etc., etc. Furthermore,
the non-hitchhiker will then happily lend the hitchhiker any of these or
a dozen other items that he may have "lost". After all, any man who can
hitch the length and breadth of the Galaxy, struggle against terrible odds,
win through and still know where his towel is, is clearly a man to be
reckoned with.
