The HP PSC 2410 offers a convenient solution to virtually any desktop task. Use it to print, copy, scan, or fax in full color. It even lets you print and share photos directly from your digital camera's memory card or print frame-by-frame sequences from digital video clips. You print handy photo proof sheets for image selection, or you can preview images on the 2.5-inch color LCD. The unit has four memory card slots for compatibility with most digital cameras. Optimal photo output is achieved through optional six-color printing with the addition of an HP 58 photo inkjet print cartridge. Print images with or without borders on glossy or matte finish photo paper (HP photo paper sampler included).

Basic print and copy speeds are up to 21 ppm for black text and up to 15 ppm for color (14 ppm for copying). Maximum resolution for black prints and copies can reach 1,200 dpi, 600 dpi for color copies, and 4,800 x 1,200-optimized dpi for color prints (depending on input). Fax resolution can reach 200 x 200 dpi via a built-in 33 Kbps fax modem with speeds up to 3 seconds per page in both black and color. The HP PSC 2410 offers a fax/PC interface, 60 speed-dial numbers, and a 50-page memory. Scanning tasks are directly linked to the included photo and imaging software, enabling interpolated scan resolutions of up to 19,200 dpi (1,200 x 2,400 dpi hardware) in full 48-bit color for items up to 8.5 by 11 inches (letter size).

The HP PSC 2410 offers USB connectivity (cable not included) and is compatible with both PC and Mac operating systems. It comes backed by a one-year warranty on parts and labor.

1 HP is just plain lazy at this point
All in all I liked this printer... It worked almost perfectly until one month after the 1 year warrenty was up. (How convenient). I say almost perfectly because there were a few bugs a couple of times where I had to reinstall the software. Installation on my computer took only 15 minutes so it wasn't really any trouble. However HP customer service is HORRIBLE. There were times when I swear to you I knew more about the problem than they did! Once when I had a problem with my keyboard the customer service rep actually told me to drop it on to the floor. Swear to God that's exactly what they told me to do! I realize that sometimes electronics seem to improve under a good swift hit now and then, but I expected more from someone in technical support. I did drop it on the ground as I was told. A tiny piece broke off and it still wouldn't work. At least they were kind enough to send me a new one express delivery after that.
The software for this printer isn't the best, but if you have alot of memory and space on your computer it shouldn't give you many problems. Currently this printer is freezing up at startup and isn't functioning properly. I called support, but since my year is up they wanted me to pay a $30-$50 fee for assistance. I thought about the last time they gave me 'assistance' and opted not to pay. I can smash the printer onto the floor without paying 30 bucks thank you!
2 A good tool once you get past the software bugs
It prints, it faxes, it scans, it photocopies, and it's a pain in the (...). I think I FINALLY have the buggy software issues solved, as it's been working error free for a few months, but it was a long road getting here.

For the longest time after I installed my HP all-in-one machine, my brand new XP machine from Dell had trouble shutting down. It would pop-up with a "Can not end the process ******" error. I don't remember what that ***** was, but I googled it and found that it was due to a bug in the driver. After uninstalling, re-installing, downloading a driver update, uninstalling, re-installing, calling tech support (...), uninstalling, re-installing, and downloading a driver update, I think I have the problem solved.

But once again, it prints, it faxes, it scans, and it photocopies, and it's all in one cute little machine - and that's REALLY cool!

I should also mention, I've used the OCR scan (optical character recognition) a couple times and it works like an absolute dream! I was positively blown away how easily I scanned text and had it quickly imported into a Word doc. That feature alone was *almost* worth the headache to get it working properly.

All in all, it's a hesitant thumbs-up, but a thumbs-up none the less.
3 Decent printer, has some big caveats.
I have had this printer for about 6 months. In this time I have had to re-install the software twice, and upgrade this software 3 times. Although I am an experienced technician, I have had a lot of trouble getting this printer installed and working.

Print quality is very good after you have the drivers finally installed.

The software is typical HP bloatware, with way too many options. Most of the features are done much more elegantly by other software. Not to mention the annoying software update check that lurks in the background eating up memory.

One of the biggest negatives is that this printer is only 'licensed' to read certain memory cards. So, even though I have several high quality memory cards, I am stuck uploading them from my camera, instead of the card reader. This really sucks.

The technical support for this product varies from bad to horrible. HP recently gutted their telephone technical support, so odds are that you will be greeted by someone from India, or Pakistan or the Philipines, or whoever was the lowest bidder.

One of the most glaring omissions, I had an officejet 720 for years, it would wait on the line and 'listen' for a fax machine. Conveniently my answering machine would hang up if the fax picked up. This was a particularly handy arrangement. Sadly this is missing from the PSC 2410.
4 HP products are great
My computer came with a Lexmark printer, copier, scanner, fax machine. It was junk.I still have it brand new in the box.I got this HP machine and it's great!
5 Does many things well; cartridge switch is a pain.
I was comparing the HP PSC 2410 to the Epson RX600. Both have a small color display that makes it easier to print directly from a camera memory card, and you can see more options at once for copying and other things than on the tiny b/w LCD displays.
Ê
The two things that tilted me in favor of the Epson were the ability to scan from slides and negatives, and having six separate ink wells so you don't waste ink/money replacing 3-color cartridges when only one color is empty; in addition, you don't have to switch cartridges to print photos, as on the HP PSC 2410, the other printer I was considering, where you obviously have to switch back afterward, which didn't appeal to me. It's not that big of a deal to switch ink cartridges as much as the mess would be if the kids weren't careful--sometimes the cartridges get ink buildup on the bottom. Still, I would definitely recommend considering the HP PSC 2410, since your needs/tolerances may differ.
Ê
The HP 2410 has the small color screen included for a lower cost than the Epson. It also faxes. Somehow I had assumed they both could fax, but the Epson can't, which is annoying.
6 Fantastic Printer
Installed on my MAC G4 without a hitch. Runs smoothly, does it all without any problems. I'm a teacher and this machine answers all my needs. I'll buy another one soon for my daughter.
7 Had no problems with this machine
I love this machine. But then again I have not yet asked it do what other posters have. I don't have a digital camera yet and I basically use it as a printer, since my 952c died and as a fax. The only thing I did not understand is that I thought i installed it properly and one day my computer treated it as if it were a new piece of hardware, when i have had this machine for about a year. I can't speak for the scanner because I bought a more sophisticated resolution-wise Hp scanner before I bought this. Overall I am happy with this machine. My only other problem with purchasing from target is that you all do not offer extended warranties, like best buy (where I bought my machine).
8 impossible to install on my pc
Three days spent trying to install this printer...AND IS NOT OVER !!! No help from the first level HP support which told me just to reinstall from a clean machine (WOW)!

I'm going to give back this non functional product to the producer...maybe asking to my lawyer how to do it.
Of course I suggest you all to buy another thing !!!
9 HP PSC 2410 Multifunction
Excellent printer...Good scanner...Great copier...Good fax-This sleek multifunction prints beautifully, the scanner and copier are great(I like the way how its flatbed), and the fax is nice, too. The printer prints glossy photos, and there's a nice colorful mini screen at the right top corner. There's only one problem-the software. After we downloaded a newer version, some strange problems came. So we uninstalled it and everything went back to normal. I recommend that you buy the HP PSC 2410 Multifunction, but don't download a newer version of the software. It drove us nuts!!!
10 HP psc 2410 So far, so good...
I shopped around on line and followed the advice of numerous Amazon posters. I was replacing an HP psc 950 and wanted a similar device. I narrowed my choices down to the 2410 and the 6110. They were priced equally. I finally settled on the 2410 because of the capability of viewing/printing digital photos directly. (The older 950 didn't handle MMC cards.) To get that feature with the 6000 series, you have to move up to the 7000 series and pay another $100 or more.

As a Mac user I was concerned about software. One of the reasons I replaced my trusty 950 was the fact that it was constantly giving me software problems. HP considers the 950 obsolete and is not helpful with answering software snafus. Once I purchased the 2410 I followed the advice found here and downloaded the software (6.3.4) for the 2410 from the HP website, rather than using the supplied CD (6.3.0). With a high-speed internet connection this is a breeze.

One thing that may be obvious, but no one tells you, is to uninstall the software from the old HP system first--assuming you're replacing a older HP. I did that using the 950 HP all-in-one software and it worked flawlessly--as best as I can tell so far.

My only complaint with the 2410 is similar to a complaint found in another review: it's noisy and not as solid (read heavy) as the 950 and tends to shift when it does its thing. If you can live with that, or find a way to stabilize it, I think you'll find the 2410 is good value for money. It prints and copies, scans, faxes, and does it all for less than $300. Many reviewers have complained about HP software for all-in-ones. But I noticed that most of those who complained were Windows users. HP seems to one of those companies that at least cares about us Mac users. My experience with HP software on Mac all-in-ones has been pretty positive, first with the 950 and so far with the 2410.

I have yet to see how long the ink cartridges last (an annoyance with the 950). The 2410 uses different cartridges which are about the same price as the old ones but they are "smaller" and don't appear to hold much ink. The 2410 also uses a separate cartridge for photos which the 950 did not. I haven't tried that one (HP 58) yet, but the HP 57 produced colors that were equal in quality to the HP 78 (used with the 950), as best as I can tell.

The fact that the 2410 doesn't come with a cable wasn't a concern for me since I was replacing a machine that already had one.

11 OMG- Darn Outsourcing
We bought this printer for my father-in-law as a birthday gift and he loves it....But when I tried to use it to print pictures from my xd-photo card, I used words that I have tried to refrain from in the past. The XD card is impossible to get in. I have spent 5 hours trying to get it in to the printer, and have failed everythime. Actually, I did manage to get it in backwards a couple of times, but backwards is the only way it fits. I called customer service and was appalled that the representative did not understand me nor could I understand him. For all I know he could have asked if I kicked the printer and I may have answered yes...who knows?

They offered to send me a new printer (in 7-10 days) but I don't want to be bothered. It is my FIL's and his memory card works I think. I wanted to get one for myself, but now between the horribly written directions, the lack of Englis-speaking/understanding tech support, and the general pain-in-the-tuckasness, I will steer clear of EVER purchasing a HP product. Buyer Beware!!!!!!!!

12 Stay away from this machine!
I am a computer consultant and have been asked by three different customers to install this device.

IT ALWAYS FAILS!

I normally recommend HP equipment due to their high quality and USUALLY good support.

I now recommend ANYONE who wants one of these to look somewhere else.

13 Drivers destory a potentially useful product
After having a customer bring her computer in 3 times due to the operating system having been corrupted, I discovered that she had been installing the drivers for this printer each time she took her newly repaired computer home. I attempted to do an install of the drivers myself, and found that the drivers cannot be installed independently of the software, and that the software is horridly bloated in terms of installation space and processor usage. I highly suggest looking to another manufacturer for a Printer / Scanner / Copier that will meet your needs.
14 Beware this machine
I only gave this 1 star because the review requires a star for publishing, 1 is too much.

I've never written a complaint or a review until I had the misfortune to purchase this machine. I am a HP user, this being my 6th HP printer. I have it about 6 weeks, to give it a chance because I wanted HP, but found myself so frustrated with it by day 2 that I wrote to HP then... I still have not had a reply from them.
The software is too large and there is no option to just use the drivers. I find the color isn't up to my other 2 HP printer standards (720C and 1220C), it being quite dull in comparison, and the speed is 0 - sluggish. I timed my first print run and cried and that was using fastNormal. Also, for some reason it would occassionally only print 3 or 10 copies if asked for more (example 70+), not a reliable machine.
I have no solutions but had to get this off my chest - buy something "anything" else. I love my 1220C but will be moving to another brand now, goodbye HP.

15 Decent Printer but heed this WARNING!
A piece of Hardware is no better than the software that comes with it.
The HP PSC2420 prints wonderful (almost equal that of an Epson Stylus RX500). The real problem is not the Machine, but the software. It will load files larger than 2 to 3 Operating Systems.
Thats 1 - 1.5 GIGABITES just to print, scan & fax.

It cannot save your fax; there's NO view, no review, and more, it just can't do anything at all software wise, whether your sending or receiving.

Once loaded on ur computer this software will NOT uninstall. It does not delete 1 file out of the GIG loaded. Nor will it Uninstall all from the registry bigger than 3 books of "Gone with the Wind". It will remove some registry files, which will make it appear, as if the program is no longer on your PC.

There are over 15 steps required to uninstall much of it, but still leaves Megabytes of garbage in both files & the registry.
A simple Go to Add-&-Remove in the control panel won't do the job.

If you upgrade to higher software version, HEED!! because the way the upgrade is written, you cannot return to the lower version, and you will just have to be happy with function that were available in the older version but not in the newer one.

All in all, for the novice I cannot recommend the PSC 2410/2510.
Incidentally .. the PSC 2510 will slow your PC down up to 8 seconds when accessing another drive.

I also recommend, if you decide upon buying one; DO NOT install the critical update. You can very like loose drive data. More importantly, you may have to load your OS again.

Regards & Good luck.

16 HP PSC 2410 is a winner
The installation was a breeze and this printer is truly outstanding. I read the reviews and took the advice to follow the set up instructions precisely-which I did. I use XP and have been extremely happy with every aspect of this printer in the three weeks I have owned it.
17 Cumbersome installation, fails often
The installation of this product is unnecessarily cumbersome and grotesquely huge in both memory usage and disk space, in no way seamless, and frought with numerous potential fatal errors. The uninstall process is also unnecesary complex and does not completely uninstall the software. After 8 months of inept HP support, I am admitting defeat and chucking this thing.
18 Unable to install
I purchased three 2410s over a 2 week period. The first had bent pins in the card slot, so was unable to print photos. The second printed photos beautifully, but refused to print from the computer or copy. When I tried to reinstall, kept getting "fatal error" messages. The 3rd machine also "fatal errored," and even the Geek Squad couldn't install it. Over 5.5 hrs was spent on the phone with HP tech staff (many of them very difficult to understand). HP's final recommendation? "Try another model."
19 The worst printer I had ever used !!
One word....SUCKS !!!!
Due to some prob to my Win2K PC, I uninstalled the hp software. Then after that I tried to reinstalled it. FAILED !! no matter how many time I reinstalled it. JUST GIVE ME FAILED !!!
HP just ignore this prob. they r trying to escape fr this prob !

forget about this product ! DONT BUY !!

20 Not very impressive
I have used this printer moderately for about the last six months and then last week, it just stopped functioning as a printer. It would still copy, but that was it.

I spent considerable time on the phone with HP and they finally agreed to send me a new one (it arrived within 24 hours).

I doubt this one will hold up any better by the way it sounds. I would recommend avoiding this product.

21 The HP 2410 is a great machine
I just recieved my HP2410 all-in-one printer from UPS yesterday, (Love shopping via e-mail from Target) and installed it within 2 hrs. after opening the box. It was a snap to install, and I have the minimum required Windows 98 (second addition w/pentium II machine) I'm not a computer wizard, and didn't have any trouble understanding or following the steps to installation of the printer program. Prints great, copies are so close to the orginal its hard to tell them apart, prints photos like they came from the photo lab, and ther fax also works terrific. I can't say enough about this great all-in-one printer.
22 Simple Installation for USB Only and not for network sharing
I got this printer today and took into account ALL the reviews here. I also checked out the Official website where I found "Basic Feature Software Solution for Home Users" which is only about 49MB big and not 400+MB that comes on the CD. It only installs the drivers needed for all the various uses of the printer/scanner/etc and not all the other software (imaging software - other stuff I have which I have no idea about as I didn't install them).

Guess what - it installed PERFECTLY first time. However, as I mention in the title, this installation is ONLY for a single user and not for networks of any type (it seems) and get's rid of all the bloatware which I've seen installed with other HP printers that friends own.

So in conclusion, if you're looking to install this printer on just ONE PC, check out the HP website, find the HP PSC 2410 section and check out the file downloads. There you will find the SINGLE USER BLOATWARE FREE version of the installation - and do NOT install the software from the CD if you only want a single user installation without all the suplerflous software installed too.

I'm more than happy with the results and hope you all will be too.

Thanks

Umi

23 So Far so Good
I did ALOT of research on Multifuntions before I bought this one. I bought the Lexmark x83 about 2 yrs ago and was pretty dissappointed. So this time I wanted to make sure that I researched it completely before I decided which one to buy. I noticed from Amazon and several other "consumer review" websites that several people had problems with the software installation. But I also read about someone who said that as long as you turn off your virus, and firewall software and install the software BEFORE you plug the printer to the pc you should be fine. Disabling the virus an firewall softwall was common sence and I always do that anyway. To be on the safe side I ended all of the TSR's (terminate and stay resident)that were listed in the task manager. The software loaded without a problem. So I would suggest that you do the old Ctrl Alt Del and end task on everything thats listed there but Explorer and Systray.
So far I LOVE this thing. Its great. Fast and great printing. I want to say that before I got this one I got the HP 1350. Also a great little machine. I just wanted alittle bit more. Quality of print and copy was pretty much the same between the two. So I would say that if you dont want a fax and you dont need the LCD viewer then I would go with the 1350 for more than 100.00 less. I do wish that it went into some kind of standby instead of always staying on. But I dont think that any of the HP's do that. I will let you know more as I use it more but so far Im extremely glad that I got it.
24 Finally an all-in-one that really does do it all in the home
The HP 2410 is the first "all-in-one" printer/fax/scanner that I've found that actually does all three jobs to my satisfaction. This little beast is excellent for light-duty home office environments.

The printer on the 2410 is a joy to use. Despite what others may have experienced, my 2410 prints text very rapidly for an inkjet printer; it is perfect for the home environment where one wants occasionally to print say, a 10-30 page document, and more often documents such as web pages of several pages in length. For situations involving frequent printings of hundreds of pages, a laserjet would probably be more appropriate, but that is not the application that this device is intended for.

The 2410 does a wonderful job with photos. I am an enthusiastic digital photographer and I am finicky about prints, but the 2410 does the job wonderfully, producing photos that are drugstore quality. I use mine in conjunction with Adobe Photoshop Elements 2.0 and my Nikon D100 and the results are very satisfactory. I have not seen the need for a dedicated higher-end printer. The 2410 has become my main photo printer of choice.

The fax and scanner are fine for light and medium duty faxing and scanning. Again, if one is in an office environment involving hundred-page scans or faxes this is not the device of choice, but the 2410 is very adequate for the small office or home application involving the occasional fax or scan. I have been pleased with the reliability of the fax--I leave it on all the time and have had no reports of "I can't get your fax to pick up" which plagued earlier light-duty fax machines that I tried to use in my home office.

I have had my 2410 for about 5 months and it has never let me down. The machine installed with no hassles on my Windows XP PC and worked perfectly the first time. The software and hardware are well thought-out and easy to use. Everything about my 2410 works as advertised. The 2410 has been and continues to be a delight to own and use.

25 Awesome machine
I've had this machine for about 2 months now, and I love it. I had no problems installing the software (I use windows 98), and it did come with a usb cable. The print is awesome, as well as its copy abilities. I haven't really used the scanner that much, but I have used the fax and it was also great. It's nice having the fax machine at home for those occasions that you may need one, but don't feel like leaving home to do so. I am very delighted to have such a good machine considering the price isn't that bad. I got mine at Sams club for around $268.00.
26 Still Unable to Use It
I have now spent more than 20 hours installing, uninstalling, and working with HP tech support. I have almost 50 pages of technical instructions printed to guide me as I flounder through the process each time. To date, I have been unable to use this product, so I must rely on my old printer which, fortunately, I did not disconnnect. I think the programmers who wrote the install disc should be jailed. But I have friends who have been able to install this piece of junk, and I am determined that if they can do it, I can do. I'll keep you posted.
27 Great printer! Just one flaw...
One flaw: the paper type autodetect doesn't always work correctly, despite using HP paper. I finally figured out that manually selecting Normal paper fixes the s-l-o-w printing problem I was having. Another reviewer said he fixed this problem by uninstalling and reinstalling the HP software; that didn't work for me. I took off 1 star strictly for this flaw.

Outside of that it's been a great printer. Installation was trivial on WinXP Pro SP1 (Athlon 64, lots of RAM and free disk space). It's soooo nice to have printing and scanning with only 1 USB cable and 1 power plug, not to mention 1-button copying. As always, make sure you've got all the Windows Updates installed before installing the HP software and temporarily disable your virus scanner.

28 Difficult installation
Very nice ergonomics -- e.g. small footprint. Difficult installation, at least for XP Home. Very poor power management. Can't comment (yet) on print quality and performance. Regarding the installation, the device appears to the computer as multiple USB devices (memory cards, printer, scanner, fax, etc.), and you must install the drivers for each of these. The installation instructions do not state this. Regarding power management, unlike my Canon printer, there is no way to configure the HP to power on when a document is printed and to automatically power off along with the computer.
29 Look carefully before buying this!
Be careful with your money, especially if you're using a Mac! Here are things to look out for.

The HP all-in-ones can be ink hogs! I've had an all-in-one for a bit over a year (an earlier version of this same model) and I've spent more on cartridges than I did on the printer! And this is with the low ink use settings--draft quality and light ink density for printing and fast printing, lighter setting for copying. It's far more costly than laser printers to use and more costly than printers such as Epsons that use separate cartridges for each color. (It's disturbing to trash or recycle a cartridge that still has ink in it.) I never thought twice about what I was printing with a laser printer, but with the HP, one often has a nagging concern that what they're printing will use too much ink or avoiding high quality printing/copying. Fortunately, the one thing the HP does well is text quality even at relatively low ink settings.

Adding to the hassles are the frequent cartridge changes! Part of the problem is that HP downsized their cartridges (you can get a larger capacity color, but not a black ink one). I am not a heavy printer or copier, but at least every two months I have to change the cartridge. Which means extra buying trips or waits for online ordering (note also: the HP wastes lots of ink simply printing its alignment page!). Does this unit take more than a 15ml black ink cartidge, preferably 45ml+?

The software/drivers are notoriously flaky on the Mac. I've upgraded them several times, always using the latest version, and HP still hasn't fixed them. In fact, things have gotten worse. Several times a week, the drivers lose contact with the printer preventing all printing. (This is under OS X, Jaguar.) When that happens, I figured out several things to try (HP support/manuals didn't help), which sometimes work, but often don't. Many times, the only thing that will get the printing working again is restarting the computer. And, at least one time, that didn't work either!

A big gotcha with my unit is that it won't print any closer than .56" from the bottom of the paper. What a drag! It limits cramming notes, outlines, or an overhead on a printed page. This affects copying, too. We've ruined many a copy as the bottoms are cut off!

I have spent days trying to print photos. HP's directions (print and online) simply aren't up to the job. After much experimentation, and thanks to some Kodak directions that I had to adapt, I got photos to work, but only by using photo paper that has detachable borders, and determining very precise oddball margin numbers.

All-in-one units are wonderful things (it's really convenient having a copier, fax, and scanner in the house), but I will never buy an HP printer or unit again. We just got a free C84 Epson and it is dramatically faster, prints borderless photos, is quieter, and simply works better. We're now looking into an Epson all-in-one and will donate the HP somewhere (although we really hate to saddle anyone with it!).

30 Great if it works
I love this printer when it's working, but it's a tempermental beast for sure. I purchased one on New Year's Day, installed it with no problems and loved it right away. The photos I printed to compare with my old Epson photo printer were so much better - truer color, better detail, etc., even in 8-1/2 x 11. Two days later, a friend came over and asked me to print a photo from his compact flash card. Maybe I wasn't paying close enough attention, but I didn't think it was that delicate. I put the card in upside down, and the light started flashing. The manual and website say you just put it in the right way and all will be well, but no matter what I did, the light kept flashing. The printer would work if the command came from the computer to print, but otherwise it would do nothing. The control panel was useless. After 1 hour with Tech Support in India, they told me to return it to the store and exchange for a new one. I suspected the pins were bent in the slot, but you'd think that would just make the slot unworkable, not the whole machine. Yesterday, I got a new printer. Tried to uninstall the software before reinstalling, but no matter what I did it would not install. 2 hours with technical support in India did the trick. I had to do 4 levels of uninstall before reinstalling the software. Now it seems to be working again just fine. I shined a flashlight into the compact flash slot and sure enough, the pins were fine and I confirmed I had bent the pins on the first machine. That makes me very nervous, so be careful when you insert a card into the slot. I may just forego it entirely and connect the camera to the computer rather than run the risk, which sort of defeats the purpose of having the slots there in the first place.
31 I just loved it !!!
I just bought this printer today and I loved it. I did not have any problem installing it as others might have. The printer produces great quality photo as well as color copy. I haven't tried the fax yet. So far, I just love it !
32 Very difficult setup for even the technically savvy
I bought this photo printer mulifunction system because the price was good and my wife got a good digital camera for her birthday. The setup is a real pain. I experienced similar problems that the others have mentioned. I was ready to return the item until I went on the hp site and found out how to fix the printer compatitibility problems (I installed the an HP workstation with Windows 2000 SP3).

This is not the first HP consumer product that I have had a problem with (I have had good experiences with their business class equipment). Most of their consumer products have installation difficulties. I forgot about this when I purchased it. Next time I won't buy hp and will stick with consumer products that work well (Canon, Epson, and Kodak).

33 Great printer, but the software and tech support needs work
I purchased the 2410Xi last month because I could not believe what an amazing multi-function printer you got for so little money. Plus, my experience with HP printers has always been of the highest quality, so I tend to prefer them over other brands when I can afford them. Setup of the printer itself was amazingly simple. Setup of the software was another matter, here is what happened:

1. I could not install the software initially because I did not have 1GB of free space on my C: drive. I mainly use C: for Windows system files, and I try to keep all my data and programs on G: for safety purposes.
2. After un-installing some of my favourite applications from C: and re-installing them to G:, I managed to clear just enough space for the install program to be happy. Specifying an alternate drive was never an option, which is ridiculous in this day and age.
3. The install program crashed with an access denied error, so I used HP's recover option and reversed the installation. FYI: I was performing the install as ADMINISTRATOR.
4. I did some research and found out that this is a common error and you have to go into your registry to alter security settings for the installation to work.
5. After doing this, I ran the install again and received a different error pointing to one of the sub-program installation tasks failing because of a memory error. At this point I call tech support.
6. Tech support is a young lady in India reading from a web page. We'll call her Reena for the purposes of this document. Reena tells me not to use the Recovery option when the install fails because she is going to have me uninstall everything by hand.
7. I follow all her steps, only to find once again that the install program won't work because I now don't have 1GB of space on C: again. I asked her what happened to my free space, and why her uninstall didn't get back the space that HP had used up. She did not understand what I said and said I had to call Microsoft to learn how to free up space on my computer. Obviously, she is just trying to get me off the phone ASAP. So I tell her to hang on, and I delete my beloved PhotoShop from my computer just so we can continue with the installation of a printer.
8. We ran the install program another 7 or 8 times and received 2 or 3 different errors. The persistent one was a critical error, which she was unable to resolve. At this point, 3 hours later, she says that she has to go and speak to her supervisor. She comes back on the line a few minutes later and says that I have to completely reformat my system and re-install Windows XP. Obviously, this is unacceptable to me because that would take me weeks with all of my programs and data. So I ask to speak to the supervisor.
9. The supervisor, Raj, tells me that there is a problem with my CD and he has to send me another one. So I give him my address and he promises it will arrive in 2 business days. I receive a new CD one week later, the version of the software they send me is older than the one that shipped with the printer. I try the install again with the new CD and get the same error.
10. I call tech support again and get a young gentleman in Canada. He points me to a different uninstall routine and modifies it to have a 'level 4' uninstall. The system is rebooted, and we go through the install process again, and this time it actually works. It seems all those previous installs screwed up my configuration.
11. I hang up with Tech Support, and 3 seconds later the message 'StorageSync cannot access this drive. Abort, Retry, Cancel'. It seems the printer is clashing with my external SimpleTech USB hard drive. I now have to leave my SimpleTech unplugged whilst the printer is in use because it seems the printer has a drive of some kind built into it also which keeps clashing with my other external USB drive. I haven't yet plucked up the desire to call tech support again.

Having used the PSC2410 a number of times now, I can say that it is an absolute delight compared to my old Canon Multipass C5500. My old Canon used to stop printing at random times, it would refuse to recognise my print cartridges on various occasions, and I had various communication problems between it and the computer. The PSC2410 has an LCD screen and you can pretty much do everything using that and the built-in menus. The flatbed scaner is much easier to use than my old scanner which only accepted paper feeds. And the images come out as crisp and clear as the originals. As usual, HP has made a great printer, which is in my opinion the cornerstone of their company's business and deservedly so.

If you are going to install this printer on a Windows machine, follow these instructions before you do so and make sure you have a minimum of 1GB free on the C drive. If you do that, you should be OK:

I hope this saves you a week of frustration and leads to a more enjoyable experience with your shiny new printer. Having problems like this with a USB printer is quite ridiculous, and it feels like HP rushed the software to get to market quickly. Let's hope they improve technical support, and also improve the testing of their software.

34 Easy to Use, Great Print Quality but ...
... initial install problem and could not share with my second PC which runs Windows NT (NT not supported).

Excellent quality, great features, cool LCD screen but initial install resulted in excrutiatingly slow printing - even with lowest print quality setting (FastDraft). As a test, I printed a one-page document on two printers, and my old HP 682C printed much faster (with Normal print quality) compared to 2410 (with low/FastDraft print quality!).

Called HP tech support. After one hour on hold and one and half hours with tier one support person, was able to get printing at adequate speed. Support person was courteous and helpful but had to put me on hold many times, probably to get advice. Solution was to do complete uninstall of HP software and then reinstall. Uninstall took over 30 minutes. Still not clear to me why this had to be done since initial install/set-up went very smoothly. In any event, everything seems to work well now and printing is much faster.

35 Printing photos.... good- printing websites.... bad
After reading all the wonderful reviews, I too bought this product. The photos turn out great, but beware of other issues. First of all, they do not support website printing- so I can't print aything from Internet Explorer. This means anything as simple as a product review you want to print out from Amazon.com or a map you had made on Yahoo to take with you in the car. And their customer support is not helpful, and that's after you make the effort to actually find the number! If I had bought it at a store versus having to ship it back, I would go exchange it for a good old Epson printer which I used to have and it printed everything easily. (Just not photos) If you just want all the other features, and don't need to print web pages, then this one may be for you.
36 GREAT PRINTER!!
Easy to install. Very easy to use. Fast scanner. Prints very good quality photos.
37 Great Machine
I bought my 2410 three weeks ago for bussiness and personal use. I am totally happy with it. I can make a copy, then send a fax, scan or print a document without touching the machine other than inserting a document. I really like being able to view, select and print photos without using my computer.
38 HP 2410 Does It All
I agree with all of the posts about the HP 2410. Easy to set up, all in one, even printing great quality photos right from the printer using the menu on its own LCD.

Two problems I had. One was because I did not read the booklet setting it up and the other was just learning how to do it.

One, when setting up the fax.... if you have two phone lines in your house make sure you use the phone cable that is supplied with the HP 2410. If it is not long enough, use the supplied cable( 2 wire cord) and put it in the wall outlet then add an extention or get a long 2 wire cord. I used a two line cable (4 wire cord) and could not get the fax to work. It kept trying to fax on both lines. See page 145 of booklet.
Second, if you are using a small XD-photo card to print directly....the slot to put the card in is a combo slot and if you push it in wrong and too far (which is easy to do initially) it is very hard to get out.

All in all it is a great machine and very glad we purchased it.

39 Phenomenal machine
I have been a fan of HP printers for a decade. I have found them to be reliable workhorses with consistent quality printing. This machine is my first HP all-in-one, and I am blown away by its capabilities. The photos are some of the finest quality prints I've ever gotten from digital photography. I have used a variety of papers for photo printing and find that the image quality is excellent even on cheaper, thinner papers. Plus, the printer doesn't jam or nick the photo paper like some other machines.

It's convenient (and cool!) to slide in a memory card from a camera, and print directly from the machine. Alternatively, the software bundled with this machine makes it easy to print from the PC.

For text documents, this printer is fast with clear, dark black text that rivals a laser printer in my opinion.

The scanner is my favorite yet with no weird scanner marks to ruin images. I have scanned film photos and then printed copies with great quality. The copier makes excellent copies on both color and black and white. I just can't get over the quality of the images that come out of this thing!

I hardly use the fax, but it works great and was easy to set up.

Make sure you have a USB cable to connect the machine to your PC -- it's not included in the package. Also, for true professional quality photos, make sure to purchase the recommended photo ink. The printer comes with standard black and color cartridges, but not the photo color ink.

I can't rave enough about this printer/scanner/fax/copier.

40 So easy to use & high quality for the price
I have a Mac with OS 10.2. I am not good with mechanical things nor am I a computer buff, though I do enjoy new toys as long as they are free from hassles. I bought this unit based on your reviews--thanks!! I just set up the 2410 in very little time, with no errors. I have tried the printing, copying, and scanning--haven't tried the fax yet. Everything has worked flawlessly and the quality is very satisfactory for this type of equipment. If this continues--and is true of the fax--I would STRONGLY recommend this all-in-one.
41 Great Quality . . . .When it actually worked.
I bought this printer because it looked absolutely amazing. So many functions - and the print quality was super. It worked great for 3 days. Suddenly, unexplicably, a warning came up that the black ink cartridge was installed incorrectly. I fiddled with it (It's an HP - anybody can put in the ink cartridge, so I know it was in properly)and finally bought a new cartridge. The new cartridge also came up with the same error, so I returned the printer.

If HP could get that glitch worked out, I'd buy another - cheap ink, high quality prints, cool functions . . . I just wouldn't suggest buying it until they make them less bug-prone.

42 Great once you get a usb
This product lives up to its claims, but it comes without the usb cable needed to connect it to the computer. Other than this I have no complaints.
43 Amazing!!
I'm a satisfied customer. This unit prints amazing photos and also works great as a great all-around printer, fax and copier. I love the way it prints from digital camera memory cards and I can view the photos on the unit's LCD before deciding to print. This product is easy to use even for a beginner like me.
44 Home and Office King
If you have this machine, you don't need to buy a dedicated photo printer (eg PhotoSmart 7550 or later). I am using the HP Photo Premium paper and it delivers lab quality results even at lower dpi. This probably have fewer (thus slower printing speed) nozzles than dedicated HP photo printers though. Fax supports color as well and very easy to setup. Color Copy features are very impressive.

Quote of the Day:

For if there is a sin against life, it consists perhaps not so much in

despairing of life as in hoping for another life and in eluding the
implacable grandeur of this life.
-- Albert Camus

... "fire" does not matter, "earth" and "air" and "water" do not matter.
"I" do not matter. No word matters. But man forgets reality and remembers
words. The more words he remembers, the cleverer do his fellows esteem him.
He looks upon the great transformations of the world, but he does not see
them as they were seen when man looked upon reality for the first time.
Their names come to his lips and he smiles as he tastes them, thinking he
knows them in the naming.
-- Roger Zelazny, "Lord of Light"
