The R707 features HP's exclusive Real Life digital image processing technologies (created in collaboration with Texas Instruments), including:
- HP Image Advice, which analyzes photos and then provides tips to users on how to adjust settings to improve future shots, thus helping the photographer learn to take better photos.
- HP In-Camera Red-Eye Removal, which instantly removes red-eye from photos right on the camera without using a PC--an industry first.
- HP In-Camera Panorama Preview, which allows consumers to take up to five pictures that are then combined into a panorama picture composition and reviewed in-camera.
- HP Adaptive Lighting, which automatically adjusts high-contrast photos to bring faces out of shadows and details out of backgrounds. This feature balances brightness relationships between bright and dark areas in a photo, preserving gentle contrasts while compressing harsh contrasts.
Other features include:

nice camera that you can get here http://www.cameras4free.com/default.aspx?r=345693 thanks for read
2 Absolutely Awesome!
I'm an amateur, and this is the first digital camera I've ever owned, although I've used others before it. And I must say, it is just about perfect. Very user-friendly, and has lots of preset options for a beginner or novice photographer (experts will want more manual control which this baby doesn't provide).
I have no complaints about it, only a fair warning that using the adaptive lighting option in low light conditions will make the images rather noisy. Buy this, and don't forget to buy extra storage to go with it. I recommend Kingston 256MB SD card or similar, which will allow you to store over 50 pictures in 5MP.
One of the best things about this camera is that you can record in video mode for as long as you want, until the storage is filled up. Suggestion to the manufacturer: webcam features would make this gadget one to die for (almost)!
3 Great camera - great price
I just got this camera over the weekend and could not believe how easy to use this was right out of the box. I have never owned a digital camera before this one. I opened the box and powered up the camera and after turning the menu on and looking over the buttons , was snapping away without ever looking at the instruction book. After about two hours of playing/familiarizing myself with the camera, I did sit down and read the manual.
The camera/docking port is so easy to use and the hp software is so easy to use. Instant share is wonderful. I am very happy with this purchase and recommend this camera to anyone who wants great pictures and lots of features for a budget price.
4 Fantastic
Ok I am in love!!! I have played around with it awhile and have found a few ways to make this thing work wonders. 1.) You can turn on the little screen by pressing the camera button and take pictures the old fashion way. This saves SO MUCH battery its ridiculous. I just use the screen when I need to. 2.) There are many pictures that I dont plan to share or enlarge so I took those under 1 megapixel, better ones with 3 mega pix and the best ones only with 5 mega pix. I did this and have a 512 MB memory so I have over 600 pictures. Also I bought the camera warranty directly on www.HP.com its cool to buy the camera whereever. I got the 2 year accidental damage warranty cover accidents and shipping to replace it!! Uploading to computer is easy and the camera takes pictures like a dream. Easy delete and playback. I am so glad I bought it!
5 Great in low light
After reading through a few other reviews I thought I'd mention something I haven't noticed anyone else talking about with the R707. I've owned mine for a couple months now, and put it through its paces on a recent tour of Europe. I used the camera in many cathedrals and such, where flash photography is inappropriate. However, when the camera is held perfectly steady (such as rested somewhere or on a tripod), it can take some absolutely incredible low-light pictures without flash. It uses long exposures - my longest was 8 seconds - but the results can be outstanding. Using the flash in low-light changes the picture considerably, tending to hide the background and mute colors even with adaptive lighting, but if the camera can remain steady, I noticed virtually no problems with focusing and consistently got crisp, clear, even vivid pictures after 3- to 4-second exposures on average without flash. The camera is more sensitive to movement while taking low-light pictures, even with flash. This can make it appear to have trouble focusing when it is simply motion blurring a bit. And on rare occasions the camera can't find a focal object, you can still manually focus for clear pictures.
I could go on about this camera, but most of the rest I'd have to say has been said in other reviews. It is definitely a worthy purchase for amateur photographers, although people seriously into photography may find even the many manual options such as control over F-stop this camera has to be insufficient. The camera does have its shortcomings, as does every consumer digital camera I've seen so far, but I'd definitely place it among the top.
6 Almost perfect...
I live in Southern California and spent December in England, Wales and Scotland. I wanted a camera that could handle my usual sunny weather as well as the grey and cloudy. HP707 did MUCH better than expected. I couldn't be any more satisified. It was more than I had wanted to pay, but I don't regret a cent.
What's good:
-ease of use. With all the cameras I looked at, I didn't really need the instructions until I was fine-tuning and looking for advice.
-the scene modes. In particular the sunset mode. It brings out reds, greens and blues, but the shots were great 93% of the time. Imagine taking pictures of the stonework of castles, the Roman wall and all the other touristy stuff. (My film camera didn't fare so well, the camera took a lot more time to set up, and I had to think a lot about the settings.)
-both optical and digital zoom are AWESOME!
-the camera picks up amazing detail. It's hard to explain, but things I didn't notice at the British museum in the hieroglyphics and Greek carvings, as well as the mummy exhibit were so obvious once I viewed them on the computer.
-downloading to the computer couldn't be any easier. (I use iPhoto)
-you can put a lot of thought into a shot or none at all. For action shots, the camera did fairly well. For general on the street shots, the camera did very well. And for the shots I wanted to play with and try different settings and aperatures, it was perfect. I could delete what really didn't work and play with things even a little more once I got them on the computer.
What didn't quite work:
- the camera has a hard time focusing in low light. Just for safety, I took two or thee shots of some things but even that didn't always work. (Still had a better average than the film camera)
- you will run the battery down before you fill the memory card up. Careful about turning the camera on and off. As per the maker's suggestions, it's also a good idea to not have the view screen on.
-when you turn the camera off it goes back to auto settings. It takes time to flip back to the settings you want and if you forget to reset, you don't get the photos you want.
-the cover for the computer and recharger port is really flimsy. Other reviews have said this but it wasn't until I got the camera that I understood.
I will still travel with my SLR but I carry my digital camera around with me every day now.
My only recomendation is don't forget your recharger. They do have an adaptor available in England that works with the HP707, but it's expensive and not easy to find. Trust me.
7 Great camera!
I bought this camera a few months ago and I absolutely love it! It takes crystal clear pictures. I don't know much about photography and the great thing about this camera is that you don't have to. It's really quite easy to use. I just bought a memory card for it so that I can store more photos. The size of each photo generated by this camera is rather large. Overall, this is a great camera for a reasonable price.
8 Noise and focus problems...
After doing a lot of research and reading the rave reviews of this camera, I was surprised and disappointed at the resulting photos produced by the R707. This is the first digital camera I've owned, and my goal was to replace my very generic film camera with something a little more high-tech. It was still very important to me to have high-quality prints, and after having seen good results from a 3MP professional camera, I figured a 5MP point-and-shoot model would do the trick.
Over the course of a month of holiday photos, I found that my indoor photos consistently had specks of noise in darker areas. These weren't terribly noticeable in my 4x6 prints, but were obvious on screen and I feared they would appear more clearly in any enlargements. I tried using the various adaptive lighting features to no avail. In fact, they often made the speck effect worse.
I also had some mis-focus problems in darker rooms - some of which were not really obvious from the viewfinder and so I didn't realize the photos were out of focus until I tried printing them. I highly suggest dpreview.com to view samples of photos and to read a very thorough review - apparently the noise and focus problems are known issues with this particular camera.
In addition, I got about three times as much red eye from this camera as I did with my film camera and there were a few photos where the flash created ugly bright white spots in people's eyes that were impossible to correct electronically.
On the positive side, the camera has been very easy to work with and the battery seems to have a nice long life. I particularly loved the camera's pocket size and smooth feel, which is what ultimately sold me on the R707 over the Canon A95, since I wanted to use it for travelling.
However, to me, the picture quality is the most important thing. As much as I wanted to like the R707, it's now in a box back to Amazon, and it seems I'll be sticking to film a little while longer.
9 Taking it back
As a serious amateur photographer, I have resisted switching to digital for a while, but decided to make the jump. After reading all the reviews, I bought this camera. What a disappointment, while it has a lot of bells and whistles, it doesn't have a very good focus or color saturation. I'm still going to try and go digital, but will stick with a camera company, like Nikon or Olympus, that know how to make lenses and take pictures. All the computer tricks in the world, can't make up for a poorly focused picture.
10 LOVE IT!
First, I am no expert photographer. I am your average person who loves to take photos of family gatherings, while on vacation, etc. I've used several digital cameras, this is the first I have purchased.
After only having it for one weekend....WOW! It is so easy to use! You don't get lost in the menus trying to make adjustments, change settings, etc. I could figure it out without even opening the User's Manual. I love that there isn't the dial-style mechanism for changing settings....just a few well-placed and easy to use buttons. We've tried recording a few short video and audio pieces and they were great. Of course, one must keep in mind that this is not a camcorder. The pictures we took came out FANTASTIC!
This camera is also very comfortable to hold. We did a great deal of research before buying, and we considered a couple of Sony models. To me, they just felt awkward and I have rather small hands.
We also wanted a camera with a lithium-ion battery. We did not want to deal with AA batteries that would have to be replaced non-stop. I would much rather spend $50 on an extra lithium battery to start than to always be carrying around AAs.
One final point; this model was rated a Consumer Reports Best Buy in their November 2004 issue. It was the only 4-5 megapixel camera that got that rating out of about 40 different cameras. I think they are right!
I would highly recommend this camera to just about anyone!!
11 with some pros and cons
pros:
1. compact. even though not the smallest, I had no problem kept it in my pant pocket, together with my cell phone.
2. adaptive lighting works. in some light condition it does make a difference, and this is why I purchased this camera
3. resolution, exposure, battery life, features, are all fine. see online reviews from web sites like dpreview.com
cons:
1. video mode has too much noise. usable outdoor, but terrible indoor.
2. response speed so so. if you took a photo, you can take another one while it's processing or writing to the card, but can't record a video clip until it finishes processing the photo.
3. this is minor, but I do hope the battery could be charged in the camera when connected using the usb cable. It only charges when you plug in the ac/dc adapter.
12 Best Quality in its Price Range.
You won't find a better camera for this price. I bought this camera in August while on vacation. I had read raving reviews about the camera prior to getting it, and they were right. What I love most is that the camera fits in my back Jean's pocket. Now that it's winter I have it in my coat pocket every day. The battery lasts forever and has no "memory problems". The camera comes with its own recharger and the battery takes between 6-8 hours to charge, can be done when you go to bed. <br />
The camera has many features you only find on more expensive cameras at half the price. The 5 megapixel shots are astounding in crispness and color fidelity. It does not come with an SD card, but it has built in memory which allows you to take various shots depending on the quality setting. All the cameras that come with a card include one with so little memory that they are not even worth using and require the purchase of an additional card, so I don't see the lack of one as a drawback on the R707. I have taken pictures and had them developed at the kiosks in some of the stores for 29 cents a piece and I only have to develop the one's I like. I never have to buy or develop film, I can email the images to family instantly with the camera's features and can even print them on any color printer with the press of a button. If you want stunning photos and the lowest price with the easiest user interface, then this is the one to get; you can't go wrong.
13 Huge disappointment!
We are avid hikers and bought this camera because of its "adaptive lighting" feature. On a mountain trail there are strong contrasts - the blue of the sky, the clouds, the rocks and the many shades of green of the forest. Our three year old digital Kodak captured all of this with no problem. This HP, even with "adaptive lighting" on, frequently overexposes the shots creating a bland washed out look or even worse. With "adaptive lighting" on you will also need to wait a very long time between shots while the camera processes the previous photo.
14 Time to move on up
It was time to get out of the 2 megapixel life and it was time to go for it: 5.1 megapixels of pure joy. I love this little camera, it is so small and so easy to use. I really like the polished steel front and the feel of the rubberized backing. The menu is very very easy to use and the "adaptive light" technology really adjusts for shots that are in the dark or shadows. I still do not have many things down but it is really easy and fun and it downloads into !Photo perfectly. I just need to buy a case but with the cool dock which keeps and extra battery charged I must say that from here on out taking pics will be smooth sailing sailor!
15 Consumer Reports "Best Buy" - This camera is too cool!!!
I stumbled upon the R707 in Consumer Reports. I was rated as a "Best Buy" in compact digital cameras. What an amazing camera. It is very compact and I love the silver facing with the rubberized back, it fits great in the hand and you get a good grip on the thing.
I love the menu system: you just have one menu button and then you can scroll to every setting thru the menu tabs, unlike some cameras that you have 'turn this knob, then push this button' for some settings but then have you 'push this other button, then turn the knob the other way', etc.
I also love that for most settings when you are given the available options, it also has right in the menu a help selection which explains the impact of the various settings - you can literally set/change anything you want without having to thumb thru a manual to figure out what the heck is going to happen.
The Image advice and digital flash has taught me to take better pictures! What other camera can actually teach the user!
Another huge plus is that you do not have to go into a menu to turn the digital zoom on/off. When you use the telephoto thingy to zoom, itgoes all the way to it's optical zoom limit. You then let up and push the thingy again and it automatically starts the digital zoom. Just reverse the process to get back to optical zoom. Amazing!
For the limited number of snaps I have taken so far, I would say that the colors are superb. I will never give up this camera.
16 Good Camera
I use this camera frequently. The zoom on the camera is great and flash doesn't create redeye very frequently. Overall, my experience with this camera has been a positive one.
17 A little feedback
I use this camera frequently and couldn't agree more with previous reviews. One thing I do want to clarify regarding the review by jeffreyf121: I do warranty work for a major electronics retailer. The problem he is describing is due to the fact that the lens is not calibrated (it is off center). This is probably due to impact or shipping damage and IS NOT NORMAL with ANY digital camera. Please don't allow this review to tarnish your image of a GREAT product.
18 HP R707 a 'little bundle of joy'
The camera is amazing to be so small. I took the camera with me on a trip to Budapest and a Danube river cruise. I took over 200 pictures over a two week period and the battery still showed one half full. I tried all the many manual adjustments and was really impressed with 'digital flash' that evens out the shadows and highlights and the auto red eye that corrects red eye in the camera. My wife uses no adjustments, just 'point and shoot' and her pictures were great.
19 HP Delivers a Feature Packed Camera at a Great Price
I was pleasantly surprised with the ease of use and quality of this HP R707 camera. It has advanced features such as in camera red-eye removal, easy to use panorama shots, and a digital flash technology called Adaptive lighting that works well in dark lighting situations
HP put in some other cool feature in this sleek little camera. It sports a LI-ion battery that's good for hundreds of shots (the optional dock comes with an additional battery), 32 MB of internal memory (SD Slot as well), a burst mode, manual controls, and HP instant share. It even has a help menu right on the camera!
One of the coolest features is the image advice. If you take a picture and it doesn't come out quite right, the image advice will analyze the picture and tell you how you need to set the camera to make the image come out right...very smart technology!
I like HPs version of Sharing technology better than Kodak's Easy share...With HP instant share, you can store email addresses on the camera. You flag a picture to an email address or a printer, and then when you dock it, it automatically does it! The good thing is that when it is emailed, it sends the full version to an HP site and a thumbnail to the recipient. That way it doesn't fill up Moms inbox with 100MB of pictures... just a few K instead.
This is most certainly HPs best camera ever, and to me, is an excellent choice for anyone looking for a small, feature packed, and low priced digital camera with 5 MP. There isnt a camera on the market that can compare!

20 The Battery Anyone ?
Fabulous pictures, nice, light, comfortable and extremely easy to use. It also comes with software that allows you to easily upload pictures to the HP web site and create your very own photo albums that family can view. They even give you 100 mb for free ! Very nice indeed. However, and there always is a however the battery is rubbish. I fully charge it and take some pictures and then after 72 hours it is depleted. After contacting HP directly they sent me another battery, but the same problem. It could be the circuits I am told but this is not what I wanted to hear about a purchase with hard earned money. It has now become a hassle. Its like I bought a 'problem'.
So 3 stars purely for picture quality, but then again any 5.1 camera is going to take some sweet pictures. From now on I only buy Sony.
21 HP 707 - The Pro Camera at a Novice Price
I am a new user to digital photography, I have been using SLR 35mm for years and was reluctant to move into purchasing a new camera. On my birthday this year, I was blessed with the opportunity to own a digital cmera, and the HP 707 was that blessing. First of all the pictures are amazing!! The camera does some of the best macro and wide shots I have ever experienced, but that is not even the best part. Here are some of the HP only features that is given with the camera
#1 - a $75 rebate if you by the camera and an HP printer together
#2 - Something called Image advice. The Camera TELLS YOU when you are taking a bad picture and SHOWS YOU how to correct it!
#3 - In camera red eye REMOVAL every other camera just does red eye reduction
#4 - Some feature called ADAPTIVE LIGHTING. With this in camera feature, you can actually make a shadowy or dark image the same brightness as the environment surrounding it. You have to see to believe!
#5 - In camera Panorama. And you can buy the HP printer I have the 8450 and print out panorama pictures and put them on your wall
This is the best camera I have ever own and I have had quite a few expensive SLRs, I will never go back to 35 mm
GO HP!!
22 Great Easy to use Camera
I've owned several digital cameras over the past few years and this is the best so far especially for the price. It's very easy to use (my wife can even use it)but has an extensive menu if you want to change your shots. It is extremly quick at taking photos, I can take it out, turn it on and by the time I have it in place to take a shot, it's ready to go. It's also quick taking consecutive shots. The pictures are as good or sometimes better than my freinds with those complicated SLR type cameras
23 Great Camera, great price!
As a photographer I have used professional SLR's, when I got my hands on this HP r707 I was amazed how easy it was to use. The image advice was very acurate, like having your own private photo teacher. I especially like the fact that you can remove red eyes directly in the camera saves the time to download the photos and edit them manually. Overall I would highly reccommend this camera to anyone who wants something thats easy to use and lots of useful features.
24 Awesome item !!!
Digital photography is my hobby, and after final search, I decided to purchase the HP R 707, and I am extreemly happy with my choice. It takes great photos, comes with amazing features like an inside manual, an image advice feature that tells me I should re-take the picture with different settings.
I would definatly recommend the HP R707 to whoever is in the market for one. Sleek design, and great camera.
I'll give it an A+
25 I love my r707
I love my r707.
I has taken some wounderfull pictures, it is very easy to yes.
With the built in help menus I never have to bring the manual with my on vacation. I would highly recommend this camaera to anyone.
Thanks

26 Great camera for point and shoot, with amazing features
I own this camera, and I have yet to find a single downfall! Most impressive is the in camera image advise. For so many years I have taken pictures that have turned out mediocre at best, not knowing what I had done wrong with the camera to take such a bad picture. HP realized that this was a problem in the camera industry and developed a program in "in the camera" to assist with this. Now, when I snap a photo, I go to the review screen and allow the devise to analyze the photo. The camera will then return it's advise on how the picture looks, and if there is anything I could do to improve the shot next time! This is a great feature and since I started using it I have not taken a bad shot. This camera is designed for the novice user who wants professional quality prints! There are so many other features I love about this camera but I don't have time to detail them all. I would give this camera a must buy! Great job HP, once again you have put the customers needs first.
27 Very easy to use and carry
I previously owned a huge SLR camera, because I wanted the best quality. However, I got my hands on the R707 and was amazed at the quality it was able to capture yet being so compact. I took pictures of flowers and cars and the camera automatically figures out the best settings even goes into Macro mode automatically.
If you get the docking station for it, you get an extra lithium battery and it is well worth it if you use it a lot on the go as the docking station will charge the extra battery so you can carry an extra full battery. This is handy as you can't just go out and buy AA's and have it working.
28 GREAT SIZE AND FEATURES
Great items. I own and love it. Spectacular pictures in a compact size. Especially like the red-eye correction and ability to do panoramic pictures. Easy to change and customize Megapixel sizes. SOFTWARE IS OUTSTANDING! One easy button push and all your pictures are downloaded to your PC.
Highly recommend it.

29 A powerhouse in a small body
This R707 from HP just shouldn't be able to do so many things so well. After all, it's "way too small" of a camera to have such clear, crisp pictures produced. It shouldn't be able to do such magnificent in-camera panoramic shots of three-to-five individual pictures (my shots of the Mendenhall glacier in Alaska with it blow people away!) It ought not to have the most comprehensive "learners guide" built into the firmware that can hold your hand if you are a digital beginner and help you take terrific shots or give you a great analysis even if you know your way around the digital ropes.
These things and way too many more to list are impressive reasons why this camera is such a deceptive beast. Compare it to other 5.1 MP cameras dollar-for-dollar and you will be shocked at the value you get.
I trusted Hawaiian and Alaskan vacation pictures to the R707 and it did not let me down. That's about the highest praise that I can offer.
30 Magnificent camera!
I love this camera!! It is the 4th digital camera I have ever owned and by far the best. The lithium ion battery is wonderful, the speed it captures and writes is phenominal, its size is perfect, and it is an easy camera to use! The dock is a "no brainer" as it comes with an extra battery and can charge both the camera and the spare simultaneously. The dock costs less than just getting a new battery! Oh, you have to try to use the panorama mode... if anything else does not hook you into this camera, that will! This is a must have!
31 Have taken a lot of pictures!
Over 1600 so far to date. I have owned an R707 camera for a couple of months now and I have to say that I have been totally impressed! My first experience with this camera was a vacation that I took to the Caribbean. Having owned plenty of digital cameras before, I was definitely concerned about battery life. For this reason, I took an extra rechargeable battery as well as another digital camera (just in case). Throughout my vacation, I ended up taking over 350 photographs without recharging the battery once! When I got home and printed some of the photos out, they all came out crystal clear and honestly better than expected. Since then I have retired my extra digital camera and I now use this one exclusively.
This camera also host a ton of other great features. Red eye can be removed right from within the camera and the finished product looks very realistic as if there was never red eye to begin with. The R707 can also take panoramic sequences of up to five shots with a built-in solution that helps to accurately line the shots up. I can go on and on about the great features that this camera has but to make this short and sweet, if you are looking for a great camera at a great price, the R707 nicely fits the bill.
32 Can't make mistakes
I have owned several digital cameras in the past, but the HP R707 takes the cake. It has to be one of the easiest cameras to use. I have the camera and the dock, with the extra Lithium Ion battery, and use the camera everywhere I go. It's so easy it actually reads your pictures to see if there are any settings you can adjust to improve the next shot. Other great features that I have used include panorama mode, which has a built in panorama preview that preview stitches the sequenced shots together, the automated Adaptive Lighting to increase contrast in low light settings, burst mode for action shots, and the outdoor display setting (display set for super bright). Not to mention that you can target your pictures in the camera for e-mail and printing (it uploads the photos to the web and sends hyperlinks of the files when you hook it up to the dock). There are so many great features, and still so easy to use, it wasn't difficult to decide that the R707 was by far the best value.
I give the camera a strong A+. Great pictures, great features, but best of all, extremely easy to use.
33 Say so long to RetEye
This camera is phenomenal! The panaramic feature is priceless with up to five shots, great quality with 5+ Megapx; auto lighting fix like magic; and in-camera ret eye fix that beats all the photo editing software I have seen. Small size, big results! This camera is definitely under priced for the value! I use an HP 6-ink photo printer and the output is enviable!
34 Finally a camera with a lot of bang!
All I can say is WOW! This camera is packed with a lot of bang for the money! I found the camera to be easy to use especially with the built in help menu. No more carrying the owners manual in the camera bag. I also like the automatic red eye reduction. The option for panoramic view is also a plus for vacation shots. For those of you who want an easy to use camera with all of the extras, this is the camera to try.
35 So simple yet so powerful
With HP's real life technologies such as in-camera red eye removal, adaptive lghting technology, and on screen help menus it couldnt be any easy to own and operate a digital camera. weighing in with a stunning 5.1 megapixel, and a great lens package, it is easily one of the best buys you can get this year.
Features:
Li-Ion rechargeable battery
SD card slot for across the board compatibility
Intuitive user interface that your grandma can use
Easy one touch access to change camera modes for those of us that know not
Full video and audio as long as you have memory in mpeg format (ie. if you have 128 left to fill, it will fill it, no cap)
Panorama feature that can't be beat. (So very cool, if you havent seen it, go to a store and ask for it, you will be wowed at how easy they have made it)
Great light weight thin case design that you can easily fit into a pocket for on the go fun
Cool Extras:
The R-series dock that you can get for it is a must buy. It not only gives you an easy way to connect to your computer, it charges your battery, AND charges a second li-ion that comes with it at the SAME time.
Conclusion: Go out and grab one of these as soon as you can. I love mine, and can only say good things about it. I suggest that you go to your local retailer and ask to play with one so you can see just how cool this camera is.
36 R707 great vacation camera
I used the R707 on my family vacation on Cape Cod. Awesome photos! Real handy features included the beach and sun mode which automatically adjusted for the glare of the water and sand. I also used the panorama feature quite a bit which is pretty cool. You can take up to 5 pictures of the scenery and the software that comes with the camera "stitches" the images together in one image. We also captured this years Christmas card of the three of us using the self timer which takes up to two shots. There I'm done. I like this camera lot and thought I'd post my thoughts.

37 Love it!
I just bought the r707 a few weeks ago, and I LOVE it. I spent a lot of time researching and I would have never thought of getting an HP, but I finally decided to get this camera after testing it in the store. It replaced a 2 megapixel canon elph, which produced average pictures. The interface for this camera is much more user-friendly than my old elph, and the pictures are gorgeous too--the colors are sharp and crisp. It's just so fun to use! You do need to take advantage of the many modes and setting options to get beautiful images in all conditions (low light etc) but it's not hard to do that and worth the effort. It also does really well with action shots.
38 Lens in the Viewfinder -----
I just bought this camera. Its a nice design overall...but suffers from one major flaw. The lens is visible in the bottom right-hand corner of the viewfinder.
I read many detailed reviews before purchasing and none of them mention this....WHY ? Don't others find this a distraction when composing pictures ? HP has designed all these nifty features not available on other cameras... They got the styling right all in a nice tight package but really dropped the ball on the most basic feature of all....optics.
I called HP to make sure that my unit wasn't defective. The rep powered up a camera and comfirmed that yes you do see 'a bit of the lens' but it doesn't print !....well duh...I know it doesn't print. So basically its good to know mine is not defective...they are ALL defective, IMO. Told the rep mine was going back to the store tomorrow. I use mostly the wider angle setting and I dont want to look at the camera lens in the viewfinder.
39 Fantastic Camera!
This is a great camera. In 5+MP cameras I've tried the Canon Powershot S500, Casio QV-R51, and a Fuji FinePix, but this is the best one.
Pros:
Picture quality is crystal clear, battery life is very good, and I didn't even need to read the instructions to it. There are helpful explanations of all the options on the bottom of the screen so you know exactly what terms such as "saturation" and "EV" mean. I've taken pictures on the streets of NY, at the beach, at an indoor wedding, and at a restaurant. All my pictures of people were true to life, indoor pictures with low light came out well focused, and outdoor pictures had brilliant colors. Printed pictures are AMAZING. The short movie I made came out very good and with clear sound, but the clip was small. I didn't buy this camera to make TV sized movies anyway. Some metal cameras don't perform well if you constantly change climates, but I took it to the sandy beach, to NYC, to windy Chicago, and then to hot humid Houston and it performed solid in all those conditions. I have not tried extreme cold though. For all that, I think the price is well worth it.
Cons:
No case or SD card included.
40 Wonderful little camera
This is my third digital camera. I have owned a Fuji FinePix and a Pentax Optio S4. This camera performs so much better than either one of those. The good points: Great video, crystal clear images, super easy to use, removes red eye after pic is taken, adaptive lighting really works, good battery life. The bad points: a little slower than some cameras when it comes to processing images(but it is worth it), no case or SD card (seems to be a trend with most digitals).
I researched this camera and the Canon Powershot S410 and S500. When comparing the two, the HP had 2 or 3 better features than the Canon. I was hesitant about buying the HP, because it was so new that there was not a lot of customer feedback. I guess the selling point that just made my decision easier was the red eye in camera removal, since I take lots of close ups of my children.
I am so happy with my purchase. I would recommend this camera to anyone. The auto features make picture taking a no-brainer, but if you do want to get creative, you can adjust almost anything, in the manual mode.
A+++
41 what you see is what you get
I have the HP Photosmart R707 since a few months. This is my first digital photo camera. I bought the R707 because I want to take good pictures without worrying about all the manual control menu options and features. Point and shoot. However with this camera I do have those other options available for more experimenting when I want to.
My experience so far: I've taken pictures indoors and outdoors, sometimes in difficult situations like a bright light in the background of the subject or high contrast pictures alternating bright sunshine and dark shadows and I have loaded these into iPhoto within Mac OS X 10.3.4 I've also tried out the video recording feature.
Positive points:
The body is small, compact, easy to hold, it feels and looks classy. The buttons are easily reached and a number of options can be chosen by using the buttons without needing to scroll through menu items on the LCD display. The LCD display can be dimmed or brightened in 3 steps, enough to read well in bright sunshine. The R707 comes with 32MB RAM built in, so I can take 17 high resolution pictures (5.1 MB with middle strength compression i.e. 2 stars) without even inserting an sd card. The menu items are well organised and it is easy and fast to find the manual control I'm looking for. The optical zoom is good and the picture quality can be excellent. The level of details in the pictures is often surprisingly good. The imaging technology, for example the HP Adaptive Lighting, gives me peace of mind that my picture has a good chance of being accurately taken exactly as I see it through the viewfinder. The motto "what you see is what you get" seems difficult to achieve without professional cameras and photography knowledge, but the HP R707 manages this quite well indeed. Playback and viewing of pictures and video is easy and you can browse through thumbnails of the pictures or instead enlarge each picture to better control the quality of each shot. The in-camera red-eye removal works very well. The Image Advice feature is helpful in explaining what you can do to take better pictures next time. Video recording is very easy, just press one button to record. The quality of the recordings is fine for a camera, but not comparable to the greatly superior image and sound quality of dv cams. I tested the included software (especially happy with panorama maker), but it wasn't necessary to install it on my iMac, as the camera was instantly recognized the R707. I use iPhoto and Image Capture to import pictures and movies. You may want to read more at Digitalmagasinet.dk, which has an excellent English review of the HP R707. They compared it to the Canon IXUS S500, and the R707 won in most categories, especially price/quality ratio.
Negative points: 1) no case is delivered with the R707. You need to buy this extra. 2) I often use the optical zoom, but then the aperture can go to a minimum of f8.4 m, the consequence is I often need to use the flash, almost always when indoors. 3) the view finder doesn't show any menu items, so when the LCD display is not available due to low battery and you want to change the menu settings, you have to do this blindly. 4) the more manual controls and active filters you use, the longer it takes to process a photo and write it to memory. You can take another picture after 1-2 seconds, while the processing of the previous picture is still in progress, as long as the in-camera 32MB memory is not full. 5) Battery recharging can take a few hours. 6) The camera can heat up when in use for longer periods of time. In the Image Advice Screen some photos mentioned something like "camera was too hot, this can impact photo quality".
Conclusion: I was pleasantly surprised by the ease of use and the quality of the camera. The price I paid was less than that of a new but no longer produced Canon Digital Ixus 400 (Powershot S400) in discount stores. It is difficult to get better quality at a lower price than the HP Photosmart R707. I recommend it.
42 HP Delivers with the R707
HP finally delivers a Camera that puts themselves above the crowd. I've been a fan of HP for a long time and the HP R707 is a big jump in quality from their previous cameras. The first thing I noticed was the speed. Everything from taking pictures to navigating the menus was lightning fast. HP has also packed the camera with great software. Built into the camera are features for removing red eye, making panoramic scenes, adjusting bad lighting in pictures...ect. The camera also does not use double A batteries, which I always burned through on my previous cameras. I was able to use the camera continuously for about two hours constantly using the flash and lcd screen with the lithium-ion batteries.
I had no problems with the software and the camera was synced in under 10 minutes. I really like the Arcsoft panoramic maker.
I give the Camera four out of five stars because I thought HP should of included a Secure Digital memory card with the camera. It does not come with a removable memory card and I thought that was cheap on their behalf.
Overall, I highly recommend this camera if you are looking for a point and shoot device.
43 How easy can it get
Looking for a digital camera, then look no more. hp has made the world of digital for the average person so easy to use and the results are unbelievable. My wife was fighting the digital revolution, but not anymore. This small, easy to use camera has everything the novis photographer needs and the results look professional. The prints we made using the hp photo printer are just as good if not better than the old drug store way we did it before.
44 Great combination of quality and features
I compared r707 and Canon SD110 3.2 Megapixels which were tagged at the same price. Both of them are great cameras, infact I chose to buy r707 as it has 5.1 megapixels and I could not find any problems with the picture quality. I took several pictures in different settings using both the cameras, and the results were amazing......Picture advice is also a good feature..
45 Ugly, terrible quality
I could live with the absolutely ugly styling on this camera, since I got it as a prize so didn't have to pay for it, but the quality was totally bizarrely bad. First of all the menu didn't quite work and had a slight lag, which was very annoying. Then after a week of light use it completely went dead. (It came in retail packaging and was apparently a new unit.) At first I thought it was the battery but it wasn't. The camera just had very bad quality.
46 Even better than the last
My father has an HP Photosmart 935 camera that he's used since Christmas. He uses it constantly, and the prints look great even on 8x10 because of his Photosmart printer and the camera's high resolution. After months of hearing from him how I should have a digital camera, also, I finally relented and went to CompUSA to get a 935 of my own when my tax check came back (not bad for filing on April 15th!).
The store rep told me that if I liked the 935, I would love the R707. He's right! Instead of the one set of rechargeable's my dad got with his dock, I have two (one came with the camera, the other with the dock - which can charge them both at the same time), and they're LiIon instead of NiMH. I still haven't recharged the first after using it for around a hundred pictures during my company's golf outing.
I took a panoramic shot of one of the holes at the golf course, and the software that comes with the camera made it very simple to put together and print out. When I go on vacation this summer I'm going to get some great use out of that function. In the meantime, the two things I'm using the most are the In-Camera Red Eye Removal and the Image Advice.
With the Red Eye Removal, instead of having the obnoxious multiple-time flash that we've grown used to with film cameras, the red eyes are removed after the camera takes the picture. If you see some red-eye, you just select to remove it, and the camera finds the mistake, asks you if it's ok to change, and the redness disappears. If you don't notice it right away, the Image Advice will even alert you to it!
I'm not quite a novice, but not really a camera pro, either. The Image Advice you can select after the picture is taken really helps you get the perfect picture. If something looks too dark, or too bright, or the colors are just plain wrong (like when you set the White Balance to Tungsten or Sun instead of Auto, and then go somewhere else), the Image Advice tells you how to get a better shot by changing ISO speeds, turning on the awesome Digital Flash feature (no more need to Dodge & Burn in PhotoShop!), etc. The people in my office think I'm a pro after they downloaded my pictures from HP's photo site, but between you and me I just did what Image Advice told me to.
Combine these features with the smaller, metal cased housing that the R707 has compared to the 935, and I've got myself one hell of a camera, and a jealous dad to go along with it!
47 Fantastic Camera
I have had this camera for about a week now and my pictures are the best I have ever seen. The Image Advise feature has improved my photo skills 10 fold. I now feel like an expert photographer. The panorama feature makes for some stunning shots. And the "in camera Red Eye Removal" works flawlessly. This is truly the greatest pocket camera I have ever owned. I recommend it to all my friends and would buy it again in a heart beat.
48 Unbelievably Awesome!
I was one of the first people to purchase this camera from my local Office Depot. I was taken aback by how much enthusiasm the salesperson had for this camera. After I purchased it, I can see why he was excited. This camera is sheer brilliance! The panarama feature alone is worth the price of the camera. I switched the panarama mode on and took a 5 picture wide angle shot of my front yard and after a few seconds I had a picture that looked like it was taken by a National Geographic photographer. This camera has it all!
Who ever said that Hewlett Packard can only make printers has clearly never used this camera. Finally, a camera on the market that trully lives up to the hype!
