1 Excellent Book - Google Has Much To Offer
I purchased this book at the recommendation of my grandson, our family's resident hacker and wiz. I have to say I learned quite a bit about google by reading this book. Although I would not call myself a google expert, I will say that I am now a "power user". This books is not only thorough but written well enough that a non technical person such as myself can read it. Excellent job. Well done!

2 A Company Book
This book parrots the company line/image. There are issues with Google but you never get a whiff of such from reading this book. Save your money and use the Google Help section!
3 Excellent!
First, this book was published in 2004, so it is current.

Second, the authors are Google insiders, so it is accurate.

Third, "Each of Google's features is explained at a basic level so as to accomodate novices,..."

If you don't search every day, this book will make you better!

4 Lots of useful information
I thought I knew Google moderately well. It turns out, I didn't. I now know it better, and have a book to help me find more information more quickly when I need to. The book covers basic web search, and goes through a number of the more esoteric features (did you know you can do arithmetic in the search bar?) and goes on to discuss the news, Usenet news groups, directory, image search and Froogle, amongst other features. There's a little technical information about how Google does its stuff, but appropriately located in an appendix.

The book is easily understood by anyone who can type 'google' in the search bar of their browser, and it will make you realize what an astounding resource Google is.

5 A Perfect Overview of Google
Did you know Google can find you best prices, do translations, or even fill out online forms for you?

"How to Do Everything with Google" by Fritz Schneider goes over everything from how to enter a query all the way to configuring your Google toolbar. Whether you are a complete beginner or an advanced web browser, Google will help you use Google to it's fullest capability. The book is very friendly. Has plenty of pictures with notes and does not use technical terms. The chapters were straight to the point and kept short.

To nitpick, the book could have shown examples on some advanced topic such as "advanced operators" to give a better understanding of how to use it. This was probably not included to keep the book beginner friendly.

Overall, I would recommend this book to anyone that thinks Google is just another good search engine.

6 A fantistic time saver for a busy mom!
As an young mother with two kids, I did not think I would have the time to sit down and read any books. However, this book has truly helped me in maneuvering my way through the complexity of world wide web and assisted me in learning how to utilize Google in my life. The book quickly points out how quickly it is to find what you need via Google and the different features it has. Since I have read the book, I now use Google's search engine in almost everything. No longer do I use it only as a search engine, I now also use it as a basic calculator, metric convertor, address locator, UPS and FedEx tracker, ..etc. The time you saved in searching definitely pays for this book!
7 What a great surprise!
I've been using Google for years now and I pretty much thought I knew it all. I had the Google Toolbar on my browser and I knew a few shortcuts for some of the more advanced search features. How much more could there be? As it turns out, PLENTY! That simple interface really belies the advanced search machinery behind it!

With the number of pages now indexed by Google exceeding 4 billion, it really helps to understand how the search engine works so you can cut to the chase and find what you're looking for. This book really helps explain just that and it does it in an easy to read, easy to understand way. It also explains many of the lesser know features of Google. It's not just Search anymore! A solid 5 out of 5 stars!

8 Great content AND a compelling read
It's a comprehensive and well-organized guide to get you quickly and easily through the search basics and onto the essentials to help you get the most from your search efforts. The "How to", "Did You Know?" and "Note" boxes in grey, are great visual cues that make it easy to figure out what to read and what to skip depending on your interest, or level of expertise on any given search topic. And what a great title for the book! Who knew you really could do so much with Google?! While I'm thoroughly impressed with the content, I'm truly amazed that a "How to" book could be such a fun and a compelling read. Being an non-techie-type person, I still can't believe I stayed up late just to learn about the way-cool converter/calculator feature. Now I can't wait to try out all that I've learned!
9 Opening an unexpected university of opportunity
I was familiar with some of the boolean logic for more advance searching but this book goes much much further. Google is a great service but they don't document their capabilities very well - this book takes care of the gap! It opened a new universe of opportunities and time savers. It's worth the investment - it'll pay back quickly in hours of time saved in searching.
10 Very easy and highly useful, time-saving know-how
Searching with Google is easy but the web is a maze. This book teaches very quickly and easily how to navigate the maze and find what you want using Google features, some which are often overlooked. It is a big time-saver. And the book is written very well. Great for web developers seeking to increase visits to their site as well as for individuals who use Google daily to look up information.
11 Make the Web Your Own Resource
Much more than a guide to a user interface, this book increases your internet savvy. Just a few examples: (1) Learn how to browse newsgroups to find the one best suited to your interest; (2) Learn about phonebook and financial information searches; (3) Do unit conversions instantly with Google's calculator. More than anything, this book will make you a more comfortable web searcher. One reading of it is worth hours of experimentation. Go directly to the internet fast lane!
12 good stuff
The strengths of this book are are many. Probably its strongest point is that the authors really understand how google works, and do a good job of communicating how this affects your searches. The discussion of advanced searching techniques I found to be very useful; I now use the -, "", and site: opeartors on a frequent basis.

Downsides to this book are that the authors sometimes start conversation on a topic at a very basic level, so if you've been around the block a few times there will be sections you just skim and think "yeah, yeah". Also, some discussion in the latter half of the book is a bit wordy.

13 The best book about Google
Everyting you need to know about google, including how google works, google toolbar, google news, search tips and so forth.

I highly recommend this book!! A+

14 Unleash the Power of GOOGLE!
Most Excellent! This book is extremely useful for anyone who wants to utilize the internet to its fullest extent. This book truly shows you how to unleash the power of the search engine.

After reading this book, I can never view google search in quite the same way again.

15 A Dry Read Straight From The Google Help Section
I found the book a very dry read, devoid of really useful information and interesting detail. Everything in the book can be found in Google's Help section. So, I bought Learn Google and found a delightful treatment of the subject matter that gave me more than I wished for! I especially liked the search challenge and fun search examples/exercises in Learn Google. Save your money and buy Learn Google, instead.
16 Great tips and Tricks
I have used Google for years. I was pleasently surprised to find that this book offers a bunch of tricks and tips that I was not aware of. The section on Google News was particularly enlightening. Many of the other functions of Google that I never used(image, froogle) I now understand and am impressed with thier usefulness.
All in all a good book. Great if you have never used Google, or even if you are an experienced user.

Quote of the Day:

Disease can be cured; fate is incurable.

-- Chinese proverb

Q: How many existentialists does it take to screw in a light bulb?
A: Two. One to screw it in and one to observe how the light bulb
itself symbolizes a single incandescent beacon of subjective
reality in a netherworld of endless absurdity reaching out toward a
maudlin cosmos of nothingness.
