1 You get what you pay for.
Don't waste your money on this player. I bought this exact one in June 2004 and already have had to replace it. A VERY slow machine (tray opening, reading discs, switching modes etc). It also had a difficult time reading some discs that played fine in my other DVD player. Save yourself the frustration and look for a Sony or Magnavox and invest a little more money. You will get a lot more machine.
2 You don't even get what you pay for
I bought this in early 2003. DVD drawer will only open with the remote. Now half of the remote functions won't work and there is no other way to access things. My center speaker stopped working (no dialogue). It is not the speaker. But the remote won't work when I try to change the mode to a different output. So is now useless.
3 waste of money
This product worked well for a year. Now the dvd drive is dead. I wish I had spent more money on a better quality system. I purchased this product based on reviews on Amazon.com. $220 down the tubes.
4 Excellent Audio, But OSD Lacking
This is my first home theater system. I read the reviews and purchased the Koss C220 with a good idea of what to expect. The audio output is excellent...the best my ears have ever listened to. The subwoofer has the capability to vibrate my hardwood floors and windows, but I rarely keep it that loud.
The cons... The on-screen display (OSD) is not very user-friendly. You just see a row of icons on the screen, and it is not obvious what they control. Scroll all the way to the right, and more mysterious icons appear. The same goes for the remote. This unit definitely has a learning curve. I think Koss (or whoever designed the system) used icons so the same unit could be shipped to any country and not have to change the OSD depending on the language spoken there. The elapsed time is displayed on the front of the unit, and cannot be displayed on the screen which is unfortunate. As others have mentioned, the unit is a bit temperamental depending on what you want to do. You must be in the DVD mode to insert or eject a DVD. To configure the audio, you have to be in DVD mode with no DVD in the drive. To set the clock on the display, you have to be tuned into one of the two A/V tuners. I have to dig out the manual every time to figure out which mode to be in and icon to press everytime I need to configure something.
The DVD player seems overly sensitive to any scratches on DVDs, CD-Rs, and CD-RWs. The DVD players on my computers have no problem reading the same CDs and DVDs. The speaker wires are plenty long for my small living room. The DVD unit is relatively heavy and barely slides into the shelf in my entertainment center. After using the C220 for 6 months, the CD tray needs a little help going in and out. Oh well, I mostly watch TV anyway. I purchased a display unit, so I don't have much money invested in it.
Overall, it is a excellent starter home theater system, and now I have a good idea what to look for when I upgrade.
5 Bad Buy
Junk had it for six months dvd player went down now it will not work . Look for a better one. 220.00 shot.
6 Nice Little Budget System? HA!
I've read all of the reviews, and while I can see both sides of the coin, be aware that sure "it's a nice little budget system" IF YOU ARE PLANNING TO REPLACE IT NEXT YEAR. If you want to spend $220 PER year on a home entertainment system, that's fine. After purchasing the system and being told by customer service after 10 months "send us $200 and we'll send you a new unit" rather than offering any type of repair - I'll shop elsewhere for my system. In this instance, you get what you pay for.
7 Excellent Machine
I bought this machine last year for X-Mas and it has worked great ever since. I got the full year warranty and purchased an extended warranty since it was a major purchase. I was even allowed Preventative Maintenance. Anyhow, I live in apartment and this unit is more than powerful enough. Haven't had any problem playing CD's, CD-R/RW's and DVD's. I can also watch VCD's. Never regretted the investment
8 dud
This thing never worked from the get-go. We thought we just had a bunch of dirty discs. Since we're not avid movie-viewers, by the time we figured out it was the dvd player, warranty was out. Looking at other reviews, seems like this thing either works or it is a dud. It's a crap shoot, our advise, don't waste your money like we did, find something with better quality control. Just sign us, "ripped-off"
9 Piece of JUNK
I bought this system last year. I had kept it in the box for about 2 months because I was planning a move and did not want to hook it up. I hooked it up in Nov or Dec of last year and played two DVDs. Had problems with both on audio and had to adjust language to either 2.0 or 5.1 before it would play right. Most recently I joined a DVD club, bought many DVDs and have problems playing any DVD that does not have language choice of 5.1 or 2.0. Called manufacturer and they said too bad, it's out of warranty. What a waste of money. DON'T BUY THIS PRODUCT.
10 Pretty Good System
This is a pretty good system for a meduim sized room or apartment. The sub isn't all that loud, but if you get another sub to go with it it sounds very good. I have had this system for about a year and it has satified me a great deal. I recommend people to buy this item because its afforadable, reliable, and has three things in one! (radio, dvd, and cd players) You can't beat a better deal for the quality you get from this item.
11 Inadequate product with inadequate warranty
Product purchased through Amazon died after nine months; alas, warranty is only 90 days. No mute button. If you switch from DVD to TV, you must restart DVD from beginning. Speaker are a joke; fortunately, receiver has sufficent power to support my existing rectilinears. Biamped sub-woofer is always on, a power consumer, even when unit is off. Had to purchase a separate RF-generator for $30 to access my TV.
12 Excellent For Price
I got this System about 4 months ago and so far, it hasn't frozen once. It extremely easy to set up. I have watched a number of movies, and the sound quality is better than I expected. I guess thats because of all the Dolby Digital stuff on it, which is great by the way because usually Sound systems with so much dolby digital stuff on costs ALOT of money, but this was at a very good price. The only little thing that bothered me in the beginning was the noise of the fan, but you'll get used to and then won't even know it's there. If the rear speaker don't seem to working or are at a low volumewhen you listen to the radio, it's just how it is, theres nothing wrong with it, but with movies and cd's you will be able to hear it better. You can hook up Game systems to it and it WILL work fine,...Overall, the sound is excellent, the video is also excellent. This is extremely good for a beginner at Sound Systems. Buy This! It's a MUST HAVE!!!
13 Great Piece, Great Price
I bought this piece as "Used & New" for $$...I was expecting a system with some missing or damaged components. But I felt it was a good deal even if the Player was working. So went ahead and bought this system.
This was shipped earlier than expected. When I opened the box to my surprise the box was packet perfectly with all the items brand new. Opened it and assembled it within 10 minutes. It was very easy as wires and sockets were color coded.
The sound is great, just like watching a movie in a theatre. The inbuilt onscreen MP3 player resembles Winamp and is great.
Totally the system can match any high end Hometheatre system. Don't think twice looking at the cheap price. Its a excellent piece and you'll really be happy after buying it.
14 Affordable Sound for the Home
I cant complain. I was sort of worried that there wouldnt be enough intputs (because i found it hard to find schematics and pictures of the back of this unit), but there are two sets of inputs and one set of outputs. So ive got my Playstation 2 and TV. All the sound from my TV gets redirected through the Speakers.
The sound quality is very good, ive listened to some of my CD's on it, testing it with classical to Heavy metal. All of which sound marvelous. Ive even had complaints from next door that they can hear it too well. You cant beat this unit for it's price! Its got a DVD player and an MP3 Player built in!
15 Decent for the money
Picked this up because I needed something for my 15 x 15 foot family room that had a small footprint and low cost. Also, I wanted my kids to be able to play DVD's with-out using my high end system.
This is a slim player, and the speakers are small as well. Koss has a good rep, but this unit (after checking the fine print in the manual) is actually made by Oritron.
The install was easy enough, everything is color-coded. The wires to the speakers could be longer. If you aren't going to set-up the front speakers and center channel very close to the DVD unit, you'll be paying a trip to the store for speaker wire!.
The sub-woofer could also use a longer wire. The on-screen instructions and calibrations are user-friendly; you can adjust items like distance from speakers and loudness of each speaker.
Also- if you have an old t.v. (with-out inputs), you'll have to buy an RF modulator.
So even though, the initial price for the Koss DVD player is low, you can have an additional outlay [money] for extra wires and the modulator.
Performance-wise, the system is not bad. Althought the unit only puts out 200 watts (over the 5.1), the sound is clear and strong enough. You're not going to be able to fill an auditorium with the sound, but it's adequate for a decent sized room.
The sub-woofer pumps out plenty of bass as well. There are the usual settings for stadium, hall, disco, live, etc that you can play around with as well.
We put the Lord of The Rings DVD on and it sounded great.
You might want to adjust the surround settings to fit your soundfield.
The fan is loud, but if you're not sitting on top of the unit, it's not noticeable.
The remote control has small buttons, but not microscopic.
The system takes a while to load a dvd. Also, if you want to load or remove a disk, the DVD defaults to on and you'll lose the picture on your tv screen. This aspect is absolutely maddening!
All in all, for the price, you get an integrated system that ties everything together nicely since it also has two aux inputs (so you can pump your tv and vcr through it as well).
As a secondary unit (that you could let your kids use as a knock-around system), it's fine. Just don't expect the quality of an [expensive] system.
16 Hopeful but Disappointed
The low price of this product was attractive, and perhaps a red flag, but I have respect for the Koss name, and took a chance. My main complaint is with the noisy cooling fan. (Other reviews had mentioned this flaw as well). Because of the shelving available to me, I need a slim-line unit, and a fan may be the only option for these. I'm guessing the "fat" units use heat-sinks instead of fans. I don't really know, but at normal listening levels I found the fan noise distracting.
Additionally, after playing around for about two hours, I still couldn't seem to get the decibel levels to adjust for surround. I don't know if it's the system or me, but either way it ends up unsatisfactory.
I will spend a little more money for something I like better. The product seems to be made solidly, and the design is attractive, but the downsides makes it unacceptable, and I have returned the system.
17 Killer system for a boombox price
To start, I am very familiar with high-end home theater systems, as I've spec'd and installed systems from modest-budget systems to $16K systems. I personally own a fairly nice home theater/music system. I bought the Koss based on other customer reviews for a friend who just recently moved into a studio apartment. For approx. $..., I am truly astounded by the decent quality of the audio and video. The vocals are clear and intelligible. It performs acceptably well for those Hollywood "WOW" action scenes. Stereo playback of CD's sound far better than anything else in its price range. Can it compare to systems costing thousands more? No. But it certainly holds it's own to systems costing hundreds more. Installation was simple. After breaking open the box, I had the whole system connected and placed in 10 minutes. The connections are all well-labeled and color coded. The satellite speakers even come with threads to accept placement using any off-the-shelf universal wall-mount, which is how I setup the surrounds. Remember, this whole audio system, including integrated amp and tuner, costs less than many DVD players alone! So what are my nitpicks? Well, system setup of the speakers is buried in the on-unit menu system, and setting the clock is a pain because I had to dig through the manual to find the directions, which ended up being slightly confusing. As with all systems, to make the most out of its capabilities, speaker/sub placement needs to be carefully done, especially with the limited capability of the "sub" to ensure that it doesn't sound too boomy. When compared to a class higher in quality, the sound is too accentuated in the midrange, while the bass could do with considerably more articulation and the highs could be more detailed. Though overall, especially considering the price, I can't imagine a better home-theater/music system value for $.... A very surprising 5 stars!!
18 Koss C220 = DVD player + Amp + Speakers + Tuner
This is pretty much a souped up dvd player. Take your standard DVD player and add: amplifier, speakers, am/fm tuner. And that's what you get extra for your extra [money]. The sound is good for the price. The MP3 player is frustrating. Yes it does play your songs, but they navigation is non-existant, neither is shuffle or other interesting (and standard) ways to control the playing of the songs. The DVD player features are same as you can find in any cheap player. For me the two real advantages of this system are: price, and having many components integrated under the same remote control.
19 Be warned!
This system has no digital inputs, so if you want to use it with an Xbox or a PlayStation 2 for Dolby/DTS playback, you're out of luck.
Consider yourself warned.
20 OK for the Price
Sorry, but I think the sound quality is only mediocre at best. I am not an audophile, but I do have certain expectations. These speakers are basically just computer monitor speakers. As a result, they are most certainly tinny. Don't expect a full, rich sound. For videos, this is OK because voices fall into the midrange sound category, but, oh man, can it sound harsh during an action sequence. And if you want to use this as a receiver, the sound quality of musical reproduction may dissapoint. I bought this as a ... vehicle to break into DVD \ Surround Sound. ... I think I got about as much as could be expected and I am not disappointed - but I got what I payed for. Don't expect anything more. Just by way of comparison, Radio Shack sells small monitor speaker brackets to hold the speakers up on the wall for $ 30 each (yeah, *each*). Do the math; the little bracket costs more than the speakers themselves. This system is fine for the college kid, or the basement "secondary" set-up, or the family who just wants the dvd \ sense surround without the high quality and accompanying price. I also agree with another reviewer that the fan is surprisingly loud and if you listen closely to the speakers, you can actually hear a noise impulse that seems to be consistent with the fan rotation - suggesting really poor isolation in the electronics. My two sense worth...
21 Koss C220 Home Theatre System
This system is excellent for the price.Plenty of power for my intentions and is simple to hook-up.
DVD and CD and Tuner modes are very good with simple remote operation.
I would recommend this system to all.who wish a low cost unit with good sound quality.
22 Lot of Theater, Little Price
This is a nice piece of equipment. It sets up quickly, doesn't cost a lot and is a nice beginner set for someone just getting into home theater. The speakers are powerful and pick up the surround sound beautifully.
23 Receiver Problems
I have had the same problem three different times.Sent the unit back to Koss,it was returned and was fine. After 3 months, same problem arose. After about 3 months, same problem.I will have to send back to Koss again for repair/replacement.
The problem is:Soundfields do not switch when the "mode" button is pushed on the remote. It stays on "stereo" and cannot be changed. This only happens when in "tuner"[radio] mode.
Other than that,I like the system for the price, and Koss's service is excellent.
24 nice and impressive but noisy
Koss C220 DVD/Receiver Home Theater system is compact while quite feature-rich. It was rather easy to set up. The mass of wires needed for all the connections, however, is somewhat overwhelming and hardly pleasing in esthetic terms. The remote is functional but its buttons and icons are clearly too small. The image quality (even on an old TV set I hooked the system to) was pretty good. Audio was less impressive, especially for music. The reason: noisy cooling fan, which compromises all the sophisticated sound features, unless you turn up all these 300 watts (not my style). Since there are no quiet fans, next time I will be looking for a unit that has none, even if that means a bigger box.
25 To add VCD capability
To turn on VCD:
1. Make sure there is an audio CD in the player's tray.
2. Using the remote control, key in the following:
Stop, Menu, 1, Index, Open.
26 Great value!
I just received the Koss C220 home theater system. We ordered it for our college aged son's apt. We opened it when it arrived to be sure it worked okay before forwarding it to him in another state.
I had promised my wife we would return the unit if it seemed "cheap". I read a review and switched from a more expensive unit I was sold on and tried the Koss.
I have the reference M&K THX system and was afraid she was expecting the same kind of quality. We were both amazed at the quality and value of the unit. It may blow up tomorrow but initial response to the product is amazement. Don't let the low price scare you off
27 Great System for the Price
I would like to comment on some items in the other reviewer's review:
"o no warranty; no address or telephone number in packing materials. Try 800/726-3801."
Mine shipped with a warranty card and contact information.
"o works only with remote control supplied; no universal remote code so now I have one more clicker to kepp track of"
That depends on the type of universal remote you have. You are correct though, most universal remotes do not have a code for Koss.
"o tiny speakers supplied with unit have a tinny sound; "
I think the sound on the unit is terrific. I certainly have no complaints.
"o If you switch from DVD to TV, DVD reverts back to start of disk. A major pain as now you have to sit through a minute plus of start-up material."
I agree, this is a major PITA. And the reason I gave it four, instead of 5 stars.
"o lacks a mute button. Oh thos enoisy commercials"
My remote has a mute button, and it works. I think you should read the manual or look for the speaker with a line through it on the remote. :-)
Overall I think this is a wonderful unit for the price. It is only slightly more than a standard DVD player. The unit also plays MP3s, and has AM and FM tuners as well. What a happy surprise that was!
28 Disappointed
I started out feeling impressed with the sound, and the picture quality was good. Then, I went on to the special features section of one of my DVDs and wanted to check out a section about the levels of animation it took to make the movie. It said to toggle through the levels by using the angle button on your remote. There wasn't one. You have to bring up an on-screen menu, which covers a large part of your screen, for the angle and zoom as well as other buttons you would find on other DVD remotes.
When I pressed the angle function on the menu, it didn't work so I thought I would check it on my other DVD player and sure enough, it worked on that one.
Then I checked out the zoom, located on the on-screen menu only. The zoom seemed distorted and covered up by the on screen display. Why put in a zoom function to get a better look if you cover it up with an on-screen display? On other units you can use the arrow button to look around the screen on your zoomed view. Not with this one.
I was a little disappointed but then my daughter popped in another DVD and half way throught the movie, a second ghost screen appeared flashing the subtitles through the center of the screen. I had played this DVD several times before on my other unit and this wasn't normal. I just boxed it up and sent it back.
Auxiliary audio for my VCR and alternate DVD player was also a disappointment. The sound concentrated in the front speakers while the rear speakers remained silent even when using the same DVD in the alternate player that performed well in the main system.
29 Great starter system at a great price!
Being a former studio engineer, I became so disenchanted listening to the audio through my TV that I finally "broke down" and decided to purchase a home theatre system. After reading the reviews, I decided on the Koss C220.
Initially, I was very impressed with the ease of setup, especially with the "Quick Start" manual (how many guys like to read directions anyway?!?!). Within about 30 minutes I had the system ready to go with the film "Gettysburg" in the tray. And I must say that the sound was superb! However, the picture quality wasn't that great. So after diagnosing the problem with a few friends, it turns out that I needed an RF modulator ... Using this, I was able to use the S-video out which produced a more crisp picture and separated some of the interference I was seeing on my TV.
One more thing: you'll need to tweak the volume settings on the speakers. You can do this through a cool menu system you view on the TV. I found that I had to set the volume to around 10db on the surround speakers, 6 on the left/right, 8 on the center and 6 on the sub. But you will need to configure for your room.
All in all, a great starter system at a great price! Cheers!
30 Warning, May be DOA
Unfortunately our unit was DOA on arrival. Seems like some type of short circuit in the audio amplifier. Would play for a few seconds, then could hear a relay clicking and the audio output would shut off. Nothing we tried would correct the problem. Too bad, since could have been a 4 star given the features/price ratio.
31 Great product--
This unit is very easy to set up and so far has worked great. The quality is much better than I expected. I live in an apartment and it sounds great in my living room. I even have to keep the woofer at half power. I suspect it is made by the same people that make oritron dvd players, as that is what my parents have and their remote is almost exactly the same, and the onscreen menus feature exactly the same graphics. It is definitly not manufactured by koss, they must outsource or license their name for it. But it still is an excellent system. I use it for the radio as well as cd playback. However every once in a while it will skip excessively with cd's, all I do is eject it, then re-insert it and it works perfectly. My friends pioneer does exactly the same thing. No, it does not have digital inputs, and it may not impress your audiophile friends, but it definitely does the trick especially for the price. I looked at several other dvd players/surround sound systems for around the same price and the quality was definitely not up to the level of this unit. I would recommend this to anyone not wanting to shell out XXX$ for a "name-brand" system.
32 Pretty darn nice...
The sound of this system is superb and it's very easy to setup. However, after using it for several weeks now I've found a few downfalls which are really just annoyances, not problems. 1)The receiver has a tendancy to get relatively warm after a long period of time. 2)I hate the fact that if you switch to the radio, TV or VCR you can't open the DVD tray. 3)The tray takes forever to open... I hate waiting. That's really about it. The radio was an added bonus and the price was right.
33 Nice little budget system
For a little money, you get a capable system. The built in receiver and DVD work well together. I purchased this for my bedroom system wich, besides the C220, consits of a Dish Network reciever and a Sony 16:9 17" flat panel monitor.
Positives: Sounds great for movies. The dialog is right in the range of the main speakers and the boomy subwoofer really pops out the special effects. Easy to set up. Koss OEMed the DVD menu/setup system, but it is clear and easy to use. Price.
Negatives: Sounds thin for music. While the speakers are great for dialog, they can't do full range for music. Boomy sub sounds out of control here. Fan. In the bedroom, I often want to play this a low levels. The fan noise can be very distracting. Video quality is not on par with my Sony DVD player, or even my old Toshiba SD-2107, but it works for the bedroom and a small screen. Can't do a shuffel play on regular CDs or MP3 CD-Rs. This would be nice when you have a 100 songs on a CD-R.
I know I listed several "negatives", but the low price makes up for it. One speaker in my main setup costs more than this!
34 Love to save money
What a great system. The Koss system only costs half the price of the average home theater system and performs as well. It has to be the best system under [$$$]. It plays DVDs smoothly. You would not have problems with skipping unless the DVD disc is bad. I see nothing wrong with the remote control buttons that other reviews complained about; it's pretty simple.
If you have a medium size room (about 15ft x 15ft) to put this in, it's the perfect system for you. The sound is clear and pretty powerful, enough for some folks. I can easily hear the surround sounds and distinguish which direction it's coming from. Also, the design of the housing is very stylish and will impress a lot of guests.
This is a great system for anyone (especially college students like me) on a budget.
35 Question
Hi i just would like to know if the DVD is a Multizone DVD or not. Thanks
36 This system rocks
I recently bought this system because the price was right. I was not sure what to expect. After I set it up I was amazed at the performace. I was a little concerned about the low wattage on the Subwoofer, but not after I set it up. I followed Bose instruction from their website that said to put the sub's port facing into a courner. I did this and had to actually turn down the sub to half because there was actually too much bass!
37 Excellant Value
Great sound, fills medium sized room. Setup allows for input as to speaker placement. Price was right.
38 Great System At A Low Price
The C220 is our first DVD player. We decided to purchase the Koss system since we could get a complete system with Dolby Digital 5.1 sound for not a lot more than a basic DVD player would have cost.
Setup was very fast and easy, although the right and left front speaker wires could be longer. Wire for the rear surround speakers was plenty long.
The first DVD we played was "Jurassic Park III." My brother-in-law was with us for the system's premiere, as was his German shepherd. When the movie started and the Dolby Digital 5.1 surround sound kicked in, the dog looked around in panic and then bolted from the room! After we stopped laughing, we watched the movie. My brother-in-law noted that this was the first time he had watched a VHS tape or DVD where he could hear every word of the soundtrack. This is likely due to the C220's adjustable "Dynamic Range Control" (DRC), which acts like a variable audio compressor. On the video side, the picture quality was excellent.
Since we purchased this system just recently, I cannot comment on its long-term reliability, etc.
The sound from this system is very impressive, especially for such a low price. While the Koss C220 won't satisfy audiophiles seeking a 100% authentic theater experience in their home, it's performance will certainly delight the vast majority of people. Speaking as a 17-year veteran band director and music teacher, the Koss C220's performance gets a big "thumbs up" from me!
39 Great Bang For The Buck!
I paid [$$$] for this system and am amazed at what I got. The sleek looking system came quickly, and was extremely easy to set up. All of the wires were clearly labeled and, contrary to other reviewers, the sound of the speakers is not tinny. I just watched Lord of the Rings last night, and couldn't tell the difference between the theater and my house. As a matter of fact, I think my house sounded better. Everything (including a tuner) is in one unit and actually freed up a tremendous amount of space in my entertainment center. I would highly recommend this unit!
40 price=performance
...The speakers give you what you expect. The up side is that it does everything you need. I purchased this for use in a temporary apartment and plan to use it later in a guest bedroom. For that purpose, it does just fine at a reasonable price. I would not recommend using this as your main home theatre system: It just won't cut it. I also considered the Magnavox at the same price. I didn't get to listen to either before purchase, so the coin toss led to the Koss system.
41 Great system
This system is great for the non audiophiles. It sounds good and has pleanty of features. My only problem with it is the lack of digital audio inputs to hook other audio systems up to the surround sound.
42 You get what you pay for
o no warranty; no address or telephone number in packing materials. Try 800/726-3801.
o 90 day warranty. Unit died after 9 months.
o works only with remote control supplied; no universal remote code so now I have one more clicker to kepp track of
o tiny speakers supplied with unit have a tinny sound; fortunately receiver easily drives my ancient Rectilinears. Also on the plus side sound levels are separately adjustable on each channel. On the down side, a built-in cross-over network means you can't eliminate their sub-par power-consuming biamped subwoofer.
o If you switch from DVD to TV, DVD reverts back to start of disk. A major pain as now you have to sit through a minute plus of start-up material.
o You can't remove DVD's until you switch back to DVD mode, wait a minute for warmup
o Almost impossible to navigate through MP3's.
o lacks a mute button. Oh thos enoisy commercials
o Number keys cannot be used to select DVD chapter.
o Could use extra audio inputs for tape deck and reel-to-reel.
o Lacks digital inputs for PlayStation, etc.
43 Great Sound at a Great Price
This Koss DVD Home Theater is everything and more for the price. It came in 2 days, only took me 30 minutes to get hooked up. The instructions were good and everything was color coded to make it even easier. The only confusing part was how to hook up cable/satellite. The remote is a bit complicated, but only due to so many features. The sound is great. I watched James Taylor Live at the Beacon Theater on DVD and scrolled through all of the sound options, like Live, Performance Hall, Stage, etc. Each option gave a whole different feel and the speakers really did perform. I am going to suggest this system to my relatives who are not big audiophiles, but want good sound for their movies etc. Overall a great deal.
