The attractive CDP1740ACP portable CD player from Koss comes with a car adapter kit that enables you to plug the player into your vehicle's cassette deck and lighter. With its 40-second memory buffer, you won't have to worry about CDs skipping while you're driving.
The CDP1740ACP has a blue transparent lid with control functions positioned in the center, where they're easily accessible. The player has a 6-digit LCD, which displays track, minutes, and seconds.
The dynamic bass boost system (DBBS) adds punch to lower frequencies, and you can program the CDP1740ACP to play songs in a specific sequence. You can also repeat tracks and play songs in random order.
The CD player comes with a car adapter kit, stereo headphones, and an AC/DC adapter.
1 Okay...but...
I bought this cdplayer with carkit about a year ago and some months, summer of 2000. It worked great the first few months/weeks, but then the buttons just started going wierd on me, and not functioning correctly. Maybe there was a cross of information, because the back track button actually plays forward, and yeah...
And then about a week or so ago the thing just started skipping after 17secs worth of playing on any song/track.
Given, the cd player has lasted for so long, its a nice buy. But if youre looking for a long lasting investment, i suggest that you take your money else where. spend that extra buck and buy sony, or something.
2 Think of it as a one-year rental
The player worked great for about a year. A few weeks ago the buttons started having a mind of their own: pressing 'forward' sometimes turns on 'repeat' or 'shuffle', pressing 'stop' usually makes it go back one track so I have to press stop four or five times before it actually stops. I had to replace the cassette adapter after a couple of months, but overall it has been worth the $30 for a year's use.
3 Buyer Beware....
Beware if you purchase this product....you'll need to purchase another one pretty soon! Koss products do not last. I have to say...this one has superior sound quality and does not drain the battery too quickly....that is if the anti-skip is off. I bought this discman about a year ago...and 3 or 4 months ago it started acting up.....will not fast forward or rewind correctly within a track....will not go to the track you want it to go to....will sometimes shut off for no apparent reason. Sure, it's a good price...but I recommend investing your money in something better....Sony, Panasonic, etc.
4 Cool looking player with some drawbacks
This CD player is great... for about 4 months. It looks cool and plays well, but after having it for a little while, it started acting up, and insists on ignoring the buttons and doing whatever it wants. if i want to skip a song, it changes the mode, if i want to stop, the program mode comes one. Other than that it's not bad... i'd be perfectly happy with it if it hadn't freaked out on me.
5 excellent value
This is an excellent product. Compact in size and easy to use. The anti-skip feature works great. I used it on an airplane with no problems--it was a lot better than the airlines sound system (even in first class). The price is so reasonable, it would make a good gift, even for a child or teenager who might be a little hard on it or even lose it. No need to spend more $.
6 GOOD PRICE...GOOD SOUND...GOOD LOOKING
This is an excellent CD player for the money. It is a trim, good looking unit with very decent sound quality. The car pack is an added bonus. The bass boost is great, but when using it in the car with the car pak, you may need to turn down the bass boost to avoid distortion of sound. The sound is otherwise pure and clear.
I know that some reviewers have complained about battery drain, but I play it for hours on the batteries and have yet to need to replace them. The cd player is easy to open and the cd pops right in effortlessly. The headphones are comfortable, and the anti-skip mechanism works like a dream. I have had no trouble with the unit, and I absolutely love it!
7 Excelent for price . . .
. . . it would be difficult to find a better portable CD player for the price. Other reviews have mentioned that the machine dies quickly and has low battery life. I have owned this CD player for two months and have only changed the batteries a few times (and I use it almost everyday). There are only a couple of minor quirks: 1) the headphones become distorted if you are listening to something with a lot of bass, even if the volume is low. However, if listening to something with an average amount of bass and treble, the headphone can take a lot more, but you can never have the volume at its max. 2) the car kit is only "ok". The one I received tends to distribute sound unevenly, that is, the music is louder in one set of speakers than the other. I'm assuming the kit has dirty heads because when I clean it it distributes sound a little more evenly, but not completely even, and you can often tell that the sound is leaning to one side. Outside of these two minor glitches, it great, and for the price, you can't find anything better.
8 Great player for the price
I bought mine in September, and am looking to get one for my daughter for Christmas. Seems like some recent buyers have really bad reviews, so I wonder if there's a bad batch out there. My player works fine, although the sound usint the car attachment is not the best (I have a good Blaupunkt cassette player and decent speakers). It does eat batteries awfully fast, but that's not a problem because I pretty much exclusively use it in the car.
My advice--wait and see if more recent buyers are giving better reviews, or purchase a different model.
9 Dead after 1 month
I bought this CD player for my daughter's birthday, and, only 4 weeks later, it's completely dead. I've replaced the batteries, checked all the external connections, and even tried the AC adapter. This is the worst product I have ever seen. NO tech support. NO return policy, or repair places mentioned on-line. Hell, even the product itself isn't on the KOSS website. I'll never buy KOSS again.
10 Bad shipment?
I bought it in early September. The anti-shock mechanism did not work properly, gave static most of the time. I exchanged it. The new one seemed to work well. After a week, it simply stopped working (changed batteries, plugged it to DC, etc..), nothing. Today, it is working again...I noticed that most of the negative feedback comes from people who bought in September and October, so I wonder if a whole lot may be deffective? Still have not decide what to do next. Would not recommend it.
11 Another One Bites the Dust!
After 60 days of little use, this item is dead. Koss' website does not list this for return information. Still within warranty, but where to return?
12 The Absolute worst
It would have been easier to throw [money] out the window of my car. It's very delicate to operate and heaven help you if you go over a bump or accidently move the player. It stops. It might go on again or not. Don't buy.....
13 Don't buy this piece of [crap].
I wish I bought an actual piece of crap so I wouldn't spend the whole day trying to figure out why it doesn't work.
My CD player worked only 4 times out of the 12 times I tried to use it (I've owned it for only 24 hours)! When I press 'play' NOTHING happens. It doesn't matter if I'm using batteries, AC, or DC adaptors. But if you wait a few hours the Koss decides it wants to work again-- grrrrr...
Just pay the money and get a Panasonic.
14 Great price but not all it's hyped up to be
I was looking for a CD player to take to the gym. After reading nearly everyone's reviews of this product, I thought I had found the perfectly-priced item. This is a great-looking and great-sounding player, but there are some drawbacks: 1) It takes 40 seconds to load the anti-skip function, and once it's loaded, you can't so much as skip a song, then you have to re-load. 2) Since I'm using this at the gym I use the anti-skip function most of the time, and it appears that is the main reason for short battery life-- I've gone through 3 sets of batteries in about 2 weeks. 3) The anti-skip function just isn't fool-proof. Even when the player is snuggly in my neoprene waist-pack (and I'm not usually wearing the waist pack, but hanging it over the bar of the treadmill, etc.), the vibration from the equipment causes the player to skip, just long enough to get annoying. Sure, I can stand in one place and shake the player all I want, and it won't skip, but this doesn't seem to hold true in real-life situations. But, one must consider the price. You can spend 3x as much for a Sony or Panasonic claiming the same anti-skip features, and probably not get any better of a product. Stick with this one.
15 Good for a portable - but can't push a larger system
I saw a lot of good reviews for this item, the price was right so I tried it out. It took about 5 minutes to determine this player was no match for the Sony Discman I was replacing. It just can't push the way my old unit did. Will keep searching for a better product that fits my needs.
16 It looks cool and that's about it!
Bought it. Played one CD then it broke.
Sent it back and got another 3 weeks later. I hope this one works.
Go Sony!
17 mine didnt work at all
i just got mine today and it didnt work. it played the first part of the first song only on each cd i put in it. it couldnt play any other tracks. i called the factory and they said it had a bad laser. so watch out for bunk players from koss.
18 Shepard2000
Nice sound, changed headphones for upgraded sound. Eates up battery time when using the anti-skip function and other accouterments. Make sure player is off anti-skip function when you can get away with it; otherwise look you 6 hrs of play otherwise 8 hrs max. Resists almost no bumps w./ out anti-skip; resists most w./ anti-skip. AC Adapter nice feature, cassette adapter nice for those with cassette decks in car or older non cd player boomboxes. Auto off nice, remember to hit stop forget pausebut a battery charger like a computer would be nicer.
19 Koss is good
Koss is a good company even tough i've never heard of it.The quility of the cd player is great. The value for the cd player is good to.A few reasons why i like ths cd playe is the way it looks, quility, value, its 40 second anti skip which doesnt make the song skip, and you can also program up to 20 songs. I suggest that if you want a cd player you should get this one.
20 A Warning.......DONT BUY
I bought this item about 2 months ago. I took it on one trip with me and it worked fine. Every aspect of it was great, I like the look and the anti-skip. Then, on the second trip I took it on, I put in a new CD, and it didn't play. I figured it was the batteries, so I put in brand new batteries, and it still didn't work. Then, I tried to switch CDs, but it made no difference. Now, all the thing does is spin the CD for about 3 seconds, then say there is no disc. I think there is a problem with the laser, but I barely used the unit. I think that now on, I will get a personal CD player from a company that I know has a great reputation like Sony or Panasonic.
21 Songus interruptus - just stops working sometimes
I love this CD player - when it works. I've had it about two weeks and twice now, it's just stopped, right in the middle of a song! I tried brand-new batteries; I plugged it electrically, I played with the volume, tried a different headset, adjusted everything - to no avail. But then it starts working again the next day or whatever. Strange. If this keeps up I'm going to have to return it! But when it works, it's great. I wouldn't let my experience stop you from buying this player, necessarily. Probably an isolated occurrence (lucky me).
22 It's all you need!
My brother and I are heavily into electronics and music, so when I bought this CD player I was hoping it would live up to it's reviews. Well it has surpassed them. The first great feature I found on it was the anti-skip plus system. This not only tracks ahead 40 seconds, making skiping virtually impossible, it also includes an anti-rolling system, making sure there is always a 40 second buffer while keeping the sound quailty at optimum. The second featue I found useful was the DBBS Bass-boost. Granted, it boosts the bass a little more than your average bass boost, but in certain situations it is quite nicto have. The next feautre I enjoy is the accessories that come with it: an AD/DC converter, a cigarrette lighter converter, headphones (not that bad either), and a cassette tape converter. It includes random, repeat one or all, intro mode (like scan), and hold. It is stylish, well-built, tough, and well worth the money!
23 Not bad - not bad at all
I bought this player based solely on the price and the reviews posted here on Amazon. The player arrived yesterday and I am actually very happy with it. I would have rated it 5 stars if the headphones were better (after all Koss *is* a headphone manufacturer, right?). Some quick random comments:
1) The car cassette adapter worked very well and I was surprized by the punchy bass. Very satisfied.
2) A couple reviews noted something about the 40 sec antiskip not working immediately. What it does when enabled is spin the disk at double speed (hence a little more battery drain) and starts reading ahead until it fills the buffer and then returns to single speed. It PLAYS while in this process, so there is no problem from my experience. Any normal motion requires the antiskip to be on or the unit will skip. I guess rechargable batteries are my next purchase.
3) Wish it had a tad more volume, but it is acceptable. Sound quality overall is very good. I think the headphones will be useless for jogging as they don't seem to hug the head very tightly.
4) Unit is very compact and thin. People commented that the case closes hard - I find that only to be true if you are in a hurry. Case seems pretty sturdy. The blue case cool factor is very high.
5) This is a recommended purchase if this is your price range.
24 Overall: Great Deal / Tested: Jogging / Power: Minus
This is my first portable CD Player - so I can not compare to different models. Bought the KOSS mainly because of the excellent customer reviews. I need the CD Player for street/park running, so the Anti-Skip is essential to me.---OVERALL---Excellent sound (switch the bass extension ON!), even with the included headphones. The headphones fits well and are light enough for running. The price is excellent, but if you add ... UPS shipping it's getting closer to other models on the market. The design is VERY cool, the functionality is good. ---ANTI-SKIP---Always let the KOSS load his memory first, which takes about 30-40 sec after the anti-skip is switched on. While runnig, if the CD Player stays in HORIZONTAL position (like I am using it in the car), there is nearly no skipping at all. This is not only related to the Anti-Skip memory, but also to the new Plus Anti-Rolling System. VERTICAL, it looks different. While running, as soon as I forgot to hold my CD Player like a full plate, it starts skipping. But I guess NO portable CD can do better. So, it works for running, but if you want free hands, you will probably use tape or MP3 (even clipping on the belt does NOT work.) ---POWER CONSUMPTION---Used 3/4 volume, Anti-Skip always on, bass extension always on: My batteries died after 1 1/2 hour! This could be better! So, ok, if the device eats power, fine with me - BUT there is NO indication of the actual condition of the batteries. And this is not good, since I don't want to carry a second set of batteries, if I go for running. The battery low indicator switch's on maybe 20 seconds before the batteries are dead. This does not make sense to me. For jogging, the HOLD switch is a VERY useful feature. ---CAR ADAPTER KIT--- Perfect - It works just great. If you don't get a clear signal, try to use the line output instead of the headphone output. During driving, there is no skipping at all (Anti-Skip "on" AND the player in horizontal position).
So, overall, this device is a great deal. I give 4 stars only because of the missing ACTUAL power indication. No deduction for the Anti-Skip in vertical position, since no CD Player will overcome this problem as of today. If you need something for cross-country running or heavy mountain biking - go with the good old cassette player!
25 Great player
This player is excellent. it never skips, you can program tracks, and put it in random play (which is great because i hate listening to songs in the order they appear on the cd) and it loks great too! and for all it does it is very reasonably priced. Koss is a wonderful brand and if you are looking for a great portable cd player for your money, this is the one to get.
26 Best CD player you can get for this price!
I am a big music fan so I use my CD player everyday and I take it everywhere including joging, biking and anything else you can do on land. But the battery power on this thing is amazing usually I have to change the batteries evey other day but this went a week and a half without needing anything new! The anti-skip kicks too. My little cousin listened to it and dropped it repeatidly but it didn't miss a beat and it came back to me untarnished. It also comes with a car kit so you don't have to waste your batteries on those long drives which I appreciate very much. The hold button was new to me but it is so cool. I was on the bus a while ago and some annoying kid kept pressing buttons and he was so ticked that he couldn't do anything to it! I would reccomend this player to anyone who likes to listen to music everywhere all the time in any conditions! Oh yeah the price is awesome too!
27 Almost Perfect
This is a very good Discman. I used to own a Sony, but it skipped too much, and didnt look nearly as cool. I got this one for my birthday, adn it has been a sinch to work, and plays the music beautifuly. The Bass is preety good, but the CD save place function is not very acurate.
Pros: Almost no skipping, plays CD-R's and regular CD's very well.
Cons: Not very battery efficent, and headphones are not that great. But in the end, this is a very good Discman.
28 It's GGGGGGRREEEAAAAAAAAAATTTTTT
This thing is great. It even comes with a car adapter...the antiskip works. I had the thing for 2 hours and already love it. The only Problem is that the door slams shut pretty hard when you close it.
29 Both units dead within 30 minutes
Bought two units. Both didn't even make it through an entire CD. Basically the output, both headphone and line, died after about 30 minutes. Both units died in mid-CD. Each was playing a different CD. Would not recommend this to anyone...
30 Koss provides a cheap answer to the expensive question!
This is one of Koss' greatest products. I would rate this cheap (moneywise) portable CD player above others. If you are looking for a portable CD player buy this one. Rarely would I ever say go for the cheap one but in this case I am! I just bought this portable player. Its absolutely perfect! Everybody's wish come true. It looks cool. It's STYLISH and somewhat cute. The buttons are put in the place they pretty much need to be and it should cost more that it does. But I'm not complaining! It's very easy to use... for anybody. It's able to go anywhere and not a burden. Oh yeah, the also come with headsets and it sounds GREAT. When your walking it dosen't skip. The anti-skip thing is not perfect but is good. Especially for the price. Just don't sake it because if you sake any portable player it will skip. SO just use it normally. Koss especially on Amazon.com has a great value, so if your trying to make a choice on portable CD players I hope you choose this one, for more reasons then one as I have explained. The Koss player has features that I wouldn't expect from something that costs so little. Koss is good, but this is great. I am familiar with alot of the products that Koss puts out there and this is definatley the best or even better thing that they have put out. If you buy it get it with batteries and you might want to get a holder. But don't just buy any holder... make sure that it fits exactly so it's not a waste of time and money. I definatley recommend the EXACT FIT holder and four AA batteries. Two to start with and then the other two when you need it. Also, this portable player does not waste battery power. I guarantee you'll get alot of life with just the first two batteries. I have. So buy this from Amazon.com cheap and get some batteries and possibly a holder that fits. Oh yeah, and CD's. And a CD holder. I promise you'll get a BANG for your buck.
31 SIMPLY PERFECT
This CD player is AMAZING! If is SO cool looking, and the audio is exceptional. It has tons and tons of great features such as Anti-Skip Plus, Programming, and hold, which is great of you loan your CD player to a little kid or something. You can bang it or drop it with the Anti-SKip feature on and it won't skip. I swear it could be dropped off of a 100 story build and it would not skip! It is just amazing! BUY YOURSELF ONE NOW!
32 Doesn't Get Better Than Koss!
It took me a while to find out about KOSS. I tried Sony and Panasonic and even GPX(boy was THAT a mistake!). Then I found KOSS. I bought the green version of this model first, and I fell in love with it the minute I heard it. I listened to it every day, until about a month later the headphones wire got caught on something and when I pulled on it, not knowing what it was, the unit detatched from the headphones and fell on the floor and broke. I went back online to buy it again, and they were out of stock, so I bought this one. I found out that it was even BETTER than my old one.
Pros: *Absolutely NO skipping *Headphones and unit both deliver crisp clear sound *Reads all CD-R discs and compact discs *Light *Awesome design *Car adapter *cheap
Cons: *Eats up batteries like crazy
If you want an awesome discman at a great price, here it is!
33 Great looking, great quality, and a GREAT price!
I just bought this Koss a few weeks ago. Its absolutely perfect! It looks great, the buttons are excellently located and they are very large and readable. In a lot of reviews, they said the Anti-Skip is not good. The reason is, as you can see on the LCD display, the anti-skip doesn't come on instantly, you have to wait about 15-30 seconds for it to load completely. but that 15-30 seconds is definetely worth it! it DOES NOT skip AT ALL. Even without it, when I'm in a car and I listen, it still doesnt skip. if you shake it, of course it would skip a little, but what would you expect? The Anti-Skip rarely needs to be used in cars or when walking. It's very light, which is great for running and walking or any traveling. What I like most about my Koss is..the value! It's a great price, and it has features that i would expect from a $100 diskman! At first, when I bought it, I didnt really trust it because Koss isnt really a household name. But I was wrong, its great! But there is one extra thing you should buy with any diskman that I highly recommend. A holder for it. It protects it, and it carries it around without you holding it (even though the Koss is light, its nice to have one). I highly reccomend this diskman, and if I were you, I WOULD GET IT! you'll see what a great diskman it is. I really mean it!
34 totally awsome!
this is such a great cd player. a big difference from what i had before. it looks awsome and the sound is beautiful! it won't skip at all if you've got the antiskip on. my brother shook it up and down as much as he possibly could. it didn't miss a note. it didn't even stop. i was like COOL! anyway, since it includes the car pack, it's a great deal! you gotta buy it! the headphones aren't great. i mean, i've had better. i'll probably use my old ones. but otherwise it's a great buy. go get it!
35 Totally awesome!!
This CD Player is worth every cent. When I first ordered it I thought I was going to get one of those huge portables like you see at Wal-Mart. But I was surprised to find out that this is a very compact CD player. It looks great and sounds just awesome. With the Anti-skip on it never misses, ever. I would definately get another. It is by far the best deal I've found for the most output. Headphones are okay, might consider upgrading.
36 awesome cd player and spify color
hey, i'm only 12, but i know plenty bout cd players. this is my first cd player, it kicks (in a good way), it plays CD-Rs which is pretty cool...cuz all the other ones that are this price dont. it hardly ever skips even on the biggest bUmPs on the road, and when on that rare occaision when it does, it skips for a second then plays again super smoothly. it has super handy buttons like 'hold', which u use when u have a 'press-a-random-button-happy' friend. the pause and resume button is awesome. u can program it so it wont play songs u dont wanna hear and it has a shuffle button if u dont wanna hear the all the songs in order. the best part is the clear blue lid (everyones fav, u cant hate blue, right?)the only bad thing is the head phones, which are fragile...i'm scared to brake them, so i dont use them. i think u should get a new pair, if u wanna get the cd player...which i totaly suggest. the price is low for its HIGH high quality. so...what are ya waiting for...HURRY UP AND GET IT!
37 AWESOME CD PLAYER!
This is an awesome cd player. The headphones are awesome and they have great sound quality. The CD Player looks reaslly good and it is also very good quality. It plays CD-R's. The Bass Boost is also very nice. The antiskip is awesome because you can bump it drop it or hit it and it wont skip a second. This is definately worth the price.
38 the best of the best!
okay, one day i wanted a new disc player.... after a while i read a few reviews and heard about koss. so i decided to try it out. man i was impressed! there is apsolutely no skipping and the sound is wonderful! i couldn't believe my ears! i hit it and slammed it but it just wouldn't skip! man this is totally worth the price and is better quality than my older ones! i couldn't believe that they sold this great thing! man if you need one you definetly got to get this one.
39 Cool
I MAY BE ONLY 12 BUT I'VE HAD ALOT OF CD PLAYERS(ALL VERY EXPENSIVE BUT THIS WAS CHEP! ) IT NEVER SKIPS THE SOUNDS GREAT I'M LISTENING TO JESSICA SIPMSON RIGHT NOW AND THE SOUNDS ARE ALL SMOOTH INSTED OF CUT UP INTO WEIRD SOUNDS BUY IT!
40 this is the best!
you know i was looking for a good cd player lately and i saw this one i heard of koss before and its great! you should buy one two it doesn't skip and it is basically great.
41 This Is A Great CD Player
I love this CD player, it worked wonders for me. I am always on the road or out in the outdoors, this CD player was great because I could listen to sjip free music all the time. I could even listen to it in the car with the included car kit. This was a good buy!
42 Very Good Cd for price
This cd is a great deal for the price. I would have given it five stars, but the head phones are a poor quality. I recommend if you buy this item you buy a seperate pair of headphones from the accessory list.
43 Wow
i am not big on electros stuff but this is a great cd player it have very clear easy to use sound Amazing i found the sound great works great even on my mountain bike never ever skips its easy to use,the headphones are cool BUY IT you will love it!
