Koss TD-61 Stereo Headphones deliver the serious music sounds your ears will love. You get a full frequency response of 25-15, 000 Hz, perfect for home listening to LPs or cassettes. The phones also feature a closed-ear design and pivoted earcups for added comfort of the leatherette padding. You even get a 1/4-inch adapter to convert the elbowed 1/8-inch mini-jack into a home audio-ready connector. All this, plus a coiled, dual-entry cord provide added tangle-free convenience.
The Koss TD-61 home stereophone offers features that you'd expect in an entry-level unit as well as some that might come as a surprise, including pivoting, closed leatherette ear cushions and a dynamic driver element for extended frequency response.
The unit weighs 5.4 ounces and has a distortion level of less than 0.5 percent. The TD-61 is packaged with both 0.125-inch and 0.25-inch stereo jacks for home and portable use.
1 worn out earpadding?
ive had my td61's for 3+ years now. the ear pads are starting to wear, but the sound is still there and it functions completely fine. if you have the same problem the koss website, koss.com, has replacement pads for 5 bucks. a good option rather than buying new ones.
2 Beautiful headphones with some kinks
i loved these headphones when i got them and i used them for about 7 months till natrually a kid kicked my backpack at school and severly damaged the "case" the speakers are held in. I found that these headphones have great speakers in them with great clarity in bass and treble. But the slight design flaw in them makes them easy to break the "case" when hit. One other thing that bothered me about these headphones is the wire is very slim and easy to damage especially because its 8 feet long. Personally yes i will buy a new pair of Koss headphones because of this great experience with their work but im still undecided wether it was just bad luck that made the case on mine break or it really was a design flaw and i was asking for it. They are made for home use so i probably had it coming to me using them as my regular headphones everywhere i went.
3 Worth 5 Times The Price!
I wanted a good, inexpensive pair of noise reducing headphones and came across these on Amazon. Some people reviews said they were good, but they broke easy. I have to say, they are perfect for me. I was just looking for something that I could use on the computer, while my girlfriend watched TV. These are better than I thought they would be. They have a very long cord, which is a big plus, and they block out almost all other sound in the room. The Koss TD-61 are well worth the $15 I paid for them!
4 Good while it lasts...
Even though these headphones aren't aesthetically perfect and this model doesn't even exist anymore in most stores, I bought them on amazon because of the great reviews and the cheap price ($15.00).
They were very efficient during the first 8 months or so, but now, even though I have always been very careful with them, no more sound comes through to my ears. You would expect Koss would make better quality products. I am now seeking to get a new pair through the warranty.
5 About as bad as it gets
I got these headphones today and they are very very bad. They omit the whole top end of the audio spectrum, i.e. almost no treble whatsoever. The bass is way too strong as well, so all-in-all they provide a completely unbalanced sound. Anyone who thinks these sound good must have no idea what a good set of headphones sound like, and is to be pitied. I bought them knowing they were cheap but I didn't expect them to be quite this bad. Back they go, if I can manage it!
6 Koss Headphones
I was really quite impressed with the quality of this purchase. I received within 4 days of which it was sent. There were some setbacks though. The portable headphones that came with the main headphones worked only on one side, and the case didn't wind well, but what do you expect? But for the large set of headphones the sound was superb. And the extension was useful on our piano. I would advise anybody with a low price span to by these headphones.
7 How can I say this?
These headphones are the best headphones in the entire world! I'm a hearing impaired kid and these work great for me too. That should give you an idea of how good the quality is. Sure, you can buy the more expensive and "cooler" looking headphones for many, many more dollars, but you'll be missing the deal of your lifetime! I wish I could only do something about the 8 - foot cord that comes with it. Sometimes it gets a little tangled up... But don't let this discourage you! DO buy this headphones. DON'T buy the other headphones.
8 Very nice
Well, I was very impressed with these not-so-little puppies. I've had mine for several years now (much of that time spent in my backpack going to and from school) and they have only just begun to give up on me (the cord has come loose inside the right speaker and that little bit of plastic on the left used to adjust the headband snapped off). So they really are quite durable. They're also covered by Koss' no-questions-asked Lifetime Warranty so no matter the problem, they can always be fixed or replaced for six dollars shipping and handling.
Soundwise, they are very nice. I tend to listen to a wide variety of music styles (everything from rock and classical to industrial and dance) and I have never once had a problem with the sound. Everything sounds crisp and clear and while having plenty of bass to them, it's never too much (which tends to be a problem in most of the other headphones I've used). They also tend to muffle out some of the "outside" world a bit (so you don't have to crank up the volume too much while in the car). With the padded headband and ear cushions, they're comfortable, too.
In fact, the only real problem I had with them was that they're so big and clunky. 'Course, they weren't really designed to be incredibly portable, were they? ;)
9 Not Bad
I bought these head phones for college so I wouldn't disturb my roomates. They are a great buy for the price, but they aren't what I consider "Studio Quality." Don't get me wrong, the sound is awesome. Far better then any of the other head phones I've had (but I've never been able to afford the high dollar ones). Worth the money if you aren't an extreme audiophile. Only complaint I have is after extended use, my ears start to get sweaty. The balance is great, not bass heavy at all - don't listen to that other guy. The bonus earbuds are a joke - worse I've EVER heard, but the Head phones rock :)
10 Excellent Low-end Headphones
I bought these headphones in a financial pinch until I could afford a new set of Sennheisers. I expected far less than what I ended up getting. For a pair of headphones that cost less than much more fancy looking Sonys in the same price range, they put out outstanding sound. These make a great backup pair to high quality headphones, or as a first pair for people not interested in the more pricey audiophile phones.
One side note: throw away the included earbuds. They are horrible compared to the TD-61s and most other cheap earbuds I have used. The connector doesn't even fit snugly in many portable devices, including my laptop.
11 Livens up your listening experience...
My cheap panasonic headphones have seen their day in the sun. These new portable stereophones are comfortable, the sounds is much improved and with an 8 foot cord, you can stand up and reach a book off the bookshelf without pulling the CD player along with you. This is important when reviewing CDs in the middle of the night.
Other qualities:
25 to 15,000 Hz frequency response
Impedance: 38 ohms
Sensitivity: 93.5 dB SPL/1mW
Cord Length: 8 feet
The closed leatherette ear cushions and pivoting ear cups are comfortable and there does seem to be some external sound reduction. I appreciate the snug fit compared to my older headphones which did not provide this luxury.
They have included some 0.125-inch and 0.25-inch stereo plugs which frankly keep falling out of my ears and I'd like to know how the heck they are supposed to stay put? Don't buy this for the "extras." Maybe they will work for you, but they didn't
really work for me.
The sound quality is great and they are affordable. What I miss is the volume control being on the cord. Someone mentioned volume controls on the headphones, I don't see any. They fit well and are comfortable. Nice for the price.
Comes with a lifetime warranty.
12 Great for the price
I really like these headphones because they work great, and there a great price as well. I've had them for a few months and I havn't had one problem with them.
13 nice entry-level headphones, but wears out after a while
i originally bought the KOSS TD61 headphones for the
inexpensive price + pseudo-leather padding. i have to
say that it's a great purchase, especially for the use
with my computer. the only complaint i have is that
after having used it religiously over the past 2 years,
the leather padding started peeling out.
14 This is a great buy
It was the best earphone till I bought UR20 from KOSS, which is even better.
15 It's All About the Sound Quality ...
I would rate this product at 4.5 stars so rounding up I give it a five. This is the second pair of stereo headphones I've owned in the last two years (both bought with an eye toward a low price) and I have to say that these headphones exceeded my expectations. The previous pair I owned (Jensen ... the connector failed after about a year and a half) were too heavy on the bass. These Koss phones have amazing, crisp sound up and down the spectrum. The bass has real feel to it ... not distorted at all. Whether listening to Steely Dan, Metallica, or Reggae these phones capture the whole spectrum crisply and cleanly even at high volume. There's only one negative (and this is more of a personal issue) ... when I first put these on each time I use them it takes me a couple of minutes to find a nice fit. They tend to feel like they're going to slide off the back of my head or that the ear cup is not fitting tightly around my ear. Again ... not too big a deal and definitely a personal issue. Once they're in place you forget you have them on.
One other note of caution: Do not be swayed by the offer of the free ear buds. These are by far the worst sounding ear buds I have ever owned -- stunningly bad. I have a pair of Sony's right now that blow these out of the water ... and let's be fair ... ear buds are not know for their sonic quality.
16 "KOSS TD-61, #1 BUY"
When I pluged these in and pressed play to my favorite Fritz Kreisler recordings I was amazed! The best headphones I ever heard! Also comes with HP-3 Portable Earbud. I had SONY and used SONY sets through the years and they dont even come close! KOSS are made for Classical, Instrumentals, Soundtracks, and my favorite music Violin recording of Fritz Kreisler! Buy them now! Please trust me! I am going to buy a second pair just for my Fritz Kreisler recordings!
17 Good sound, but they make my ears sweaty... :)
Comfortable, good sound. Only problem is that after I've been wearing them for a little while, I have to take them off for a few seconds to let some air in. Otherwise, the lack of ventilation traps moisture.
18 Are you sure these are headphones?
Or did someone shrink the bands and stuff them all into these things? These are awesome! I have had mine for a couple years, and I don't think I could buy a better pair. They give perfect highs, mids, and bass, at all volume levels. They are the best I have ever owned... I often shiver and get goose bumps litening to music through them.. they are that good.
19 Great purchase!
Upon first using this set of headphones, I was overcome with amazement at the sound quality and comfort. Each song sounds different (in a good way). Although these headphones are uncapable of a full sound range, the bass more than compensates. It appears that one could listen for lengthy periods of time with these headphones without experiencing a great deal of uncomfortness. The price is excellent considering the quality I described. In addition, with a Lifetime Warranty, you can't really go wrong!
20 good sound and comfortable
They are just like a ordinary pair of headphones but bigger. And they give you a smaller pocket pair. It's an ubeatable price for what you get so hurry and buy one.
21 Great Buy!
I ordered these headphones for work and was pleasantly surprised! The sound quality is wonderful, crisp and clear. I have never had such good headphones for such a cheap price. These are a great purchase!
22 Only lasted 8 months
These headphones were a Christmas gift for my husband in December 1999, and only 8 months later the right ear no longer works (no sound). They were good while they lasted -- at a very good price, but if you want something that lasts, consider spending more money. As for comfort, my husband thought the ear cutouts were not big enough and hurt after a while.
23 Excellent value, the best phones i've ever owned!
This is perhaps one of the best buys i have made in the past few months. These are the best stereophones i have ever owned. The sound it great, with the cushioned ears no sound escapes. For such a low price, there is absoultely none better!
24 An excellent value for above-average sound.
Koss has put together a very appealing package available at agreat price ... . The headphone set is uncharacteristically light and comfortable for large headphones, but that may be in part due to the plastics and other materials used in the construction of the headphones. Long-term durability may become an issue. As for sound, the Koss TD/61 headphones excel at low-frequency sound reproduction. Bass is powerfully amplified by these headphones, though boomy bass in rap music may over-tax these headphones at high volumes. Also, high-frequency sound is lacking. The range of these headphones tops out at 15,000hz. It is advisable to spend a little more to get a set of headphones which reproduce the entire frequency range of 20-20000hz. Also, look for a headphone set with full-size 40mm drivers. This pair features two 30mm drivers, which are better than stock headphone sets, but not as good as a full sized pair.
25 For the price, an AMAZING set of headphones!
The package says "Deep Bass", and they are NOT kidding! The fqy response goes from 25hz (Very good!) to 15,000hz (top of human hearing range is 20,000hz. The headphones sound GREAT! The earphone (1 per side, of course) contains a 1 1/2" speaker (as I measured). The padding on each side is 5/8" thick, including covering. The covering is really hard to describe. It kinda feels like plastic. The covering over the speaker is a mix between foam and cloth. Overall, if you don't want to spend too much on headphones, get these!
26 These things are great
Ever since I bought these headphones I have not regretted it. The sound quality is great and for the price is unbeatable. It puts out a very balanced sound. The only thing that I have a problem with is that they tend to heat up a bit.
27 Great Value
These headphones are a really good value. The sound is good and they come with an extra pair of "earbuds" and a plug for them that will fit into your stereo. If you want a good, cheap pair buy these.
28 Studio Headphones that make even online radio sound good...
The second I received the Koss in the mail, I jacked into my 25 year old JVC receiver and pumped out Gershwin's "Rhapsody in Blue" from a JVC 6-disk changer. NEVER before have I heard a headset that can outperform my speakers: the sound was so clear high, middle, and low that I could hear the conductor set down his batton and the players turn their sheet music. I tried to hear it through my shelf speakers and couldn't find it...
I just recently purchased the Sony MDR-G52LP Street Headphones, but these low end Koss cost $8 less and smacked the Sony sound we've come to know and love out of the room.
My favorite advantages with this product are the --low cost--long cord for studio use--crisp sound--comfort--light weight
29 quite possibly the best headphones in their price-range
These headphones are quite possibly the best headphones in their price range. For a mear 20 dollars these headphones will amaze you. They are comfortable enough to wear hours upon hours on end, the sound is great (bass and trebble both), there is very little distortion ( but they do begin to cackle at high volumes with the bass cranked up), they do a good job at drowning out most outside noises (and yet they are not made for total isolation). The only problem I found with them was their ruggedness. I tend to take my music with me everywhere and they did a good job being crammed in a backpack 24-7 but after a few months they began to crack right above the speaker. The speaker eventually came off and all the super-glue in the world couldn't save 'em. ( but don't let this scare you off, Koss' lifetime warenty will cover this).
30 Great product
I am very impressed with these headphones. For the price they work great. The sound quality is crisp and sharp and the bass is almost perfect. These are great not only for just music, I use them on my computer to play video games without disturbing the rest of the family. Also I have used them with my DVD player and they work great. As for comfort these also excel. I would highly recommend these for anyone on a budget that does not want to spend a small fortune to get some of the other headphones. At this price you can also afford to purchase them for your kids. This way when they decide to listen to music you don't necessary appreciate all day long, you can have some peace and quiet.
31 So comfortable...
I am very happy with the sound and comfort, at an affordable price. I use these for my computer to watch DVD movies or play games without waking my husband.I wear them sometimes for hours when I watch a movie and forget that I have them on they are so comfortable. I also love the long cord. Very nice product.
32 Great sound reproduction; very comfortable; excellent bass
If the previous review disconcerted you somewhat, don't pay much attention to it. Yes, I wouldn't take these headphones for rugged use such as jogging, but that's not what these were designed for nor were they what I paid money for. Also, I don't buy headphones on the basis of how they look. These headphones have the goods where it counts (e.g. sound).
You can wear these headphones for hours with few negative effects, thanks to the padding. They also block outside noise surprisingly well. The bass is great and this makes for a good listen when out of range of a good subwoofer. I found the eight foot length of the cord plenty long, almost too much for my purposes.
Perhaps the best virtue of these headphones is its value. For the money amazon charges, you get the best in this price range and possibly equivalent to some higher-priced models. My only complaint, which I share with the previous review, is that the connections are not gold-plated. Buy these if you don't want to spend a lot for what you can get for much less.
33 Robert Jones
Good product for the price!Great sound and base characteristics.I find them comfortable to wear for extended periods-much more than my old Sony's.I do wish the cord was alittle more sturdy and thicker.<...>
34 Spend the extra 5 to 10$ on something much better
My favorite brand of headphones is Koss as ive never had somuch value in other 50$ range headphones. This model has so many cutcorners I will be taking it back soon. Flimsy construction, though lightweight, will not withstand the test of time. And a general -cheap- looking headphone design that is oversized is very unattractive to me. Sony sells similar 25$ headphones that look good and are very durable with gold plated headphone connections as well that are not present on this Koss model of headphones. Spending the extra 5$ to 10$ on headphones is worth everyones time and money, especially when product longevity is a concern. END
35 Great product!
This has great sound quality and it's a great buy. Got my money's worth.
36 Fine product
Enjoy the quality of sound and the 8 ft cord allows freedom of movement around my work station.
37 some fine listening
listening to your favorite CD on a pair of bunky headphones is like buying no-frills mustard at the grocery store. this set of phones, while not top of the line, makes both of my ears very, very happy -- pan-ing, bass, and tone are just right. and you can wear these phones comfortably for hours, depending on your haircut. recommended as a first step up the easy-listening ladder.END
38 One word BASS
The bass is realy good when I turn the XBS off on my cd player the headphones make up the difference in bass. Please not there is a little difference but not alot. The sound quality is great especially on those songs with lots of bass. There also good on all types of music, jazz, classical whatever You like. All in all there very good for there price . I would recomend them.
39 It Is Very Good
The sound on this Koss TD-61 Home Stereophone is great and the padding around the ears is excellant. I reccomend these headphones to anyone who feels that the sound quality on their headphones is less than satisfactory. I also reccomend them to people whos ears hurt after listening to music for long periods of time because the padding on these headphones is very comfortable.
40 best headphones ever
they're the best headphones i've ever owned, and i am one of those gadget people who buy anything that looks interesting, including my fair share of headphones.
41 Great Sound. Very Comfortable
Great Item, very comfortable to wear, by far the best pair of headphones I've owned, well worth the money.
42 Excellent and delightful!
I have been using these phones for some time and find them to be comfortable and very excellent in sound! I highly recommend them to other apartment dwellers and to those, like me, who are often confined either to a comfortable chair or the bed because of pain --the extra padding on the phones is very helpful. I cannot say more about the sound, it is simply terrific!
