1 Koss Cans
These headphones are for gaming and bass heavy music, if you are looking for accurate sound reproduction then slap yourself on the hand and look elsewhere.
It seems that the corners cut were in construction, this thing is plastic in key areas that I can see breaking in a few years, but can probably be fixed with super glue. Have I scared you yet? No? Ok, go get some. While you are at the store get a headphone extension cord as well, you are going to need it.
I compared these to the AKG 271's I have at work...I should never have done that. For $40 it's pretty good, but if I buy any more "under $100" headphones I'll get the Grado SR80's and give these away. What a mistake. If you have never heard what -real- headphones can do then this is probably as good a choice as any.
2 Very nice stuff...
Not only are these very comfortable... but I love the sound. Very nice headphones for the price. I'm very pleased with them.
3 Nice powerful cans, but lacking in quality
I bought these at BestBuy as a quick replacement after my Koss R200's broke. These are nice and powerful cans that really put out a lot of sound. I used them mainly for late nite DVD viewing. They are extremely comfortable even after several hours of continuous use. The folding design would make travel easier than a full size set.
Now, the negatives. The cord is fine for a portable or laptop, but way too short for home use. The mesh inner headband is connected to the outer headband by four small pieces of elastic. After one week of use two of those pieces of elastic have broken ( one on each side ). The two remaining pieces of elastic look dry and brittle. I can't imagine this not being a problem any UR40's after awhile.
I was going to give them another star for the sound quality. That is before my new pair of Sennheiser HD500's arrived today from Amazon. My test was simple. I fired up my Top Gun DVD on my iBook and listened to the intro ( you know the scene with the jets taking off and landing on the aircraft carrier ). WOW, what a difference. The sound crispness and separation on the Senn's is awesome for $50.
I still give the UR40's high marks for shear power and comfort, but I think this pair is going back to BestBuy while I enjoy burning in the HD500's.
4 Good bargain!
The most significant aspect of these headphones is that they are an open-air design, which means that sound goes in and out of that mesh on the sides. This design eliminates eliminates reverb and provides much better sound than closed headphones do, but whoever is sitting next to you will probably hear whatever you're listening to, and you'll hear them. These have much better sound than anything else in the price range. Bass is good and accurate, but not over-amplified, so these might not be the best if you're into g-unit or whatever. Midrange and highs are very clean and detailed, even the lower midrange, which is usually very boomy in inexpensive headphones. The folding design is pretty handy and comfortable. I can have these on for hours without getting a headache. The Cure, Depeche Mode and other 80's music (my favorite stuff) all sound very good on these, plus they come with a lifetime warranty. All in all, I have been very happy with these, and I think you will be too.
5 Excellent Headphones
I just bought these Headphones about 3 hours ago, and I'm loving every single thing about them, they do wonderful at carrying sound, and can really get the low bass and the high treble out. I'm really impressed because they do let enough sound in so that you can hear someone calling your name if you listen. And they are the most comfortable "Big Headset" that I've ever worn. I love em. I can't wait to get much more use out of them :) And I'm satisfied with the price $40 at Best Buy. I can't complain at all.
6 A little expensive but overall very nice headphones.
The only problem I have with the headphones is the cord is to short. There is very little sound escaping out and almost no sound gets in contrary to other reviews. I would absolutley wear these in a library or even while taking an exam. Overall I'm very happy with them.
7 good phones for price, but not quiet
I'd like to say that the 'phones are good. they look pretty cool and are fairly comfortable with the mesh headband. the folding option is nice too for travelling. the only thing I have against it is that they don't keep the sound in at all. contradictory to what the manufacturer's info said, I wouldn't use them in a Library. They keep the sound out though. I ended up returning them because I bought them for use after finals when we sit and do nothing or when I take the subway to classes, but the sound just doesn't stay contained. I blame it on the mesh screen on the back. It's like they were enginered to let everyone else hear the same song you're listening to.
That's just my two cents though.
8 Too much to paid for ordinary headphones
This Headphones are quit good looking,but thats all what they have.No spectacular sound and the cord it's too short
they don't have the extra Bass feature as the manufactures said.
They are overpriced()They should cos't about... dollars for the final costumer.

10 Not worth the money
I agree with another reviewer who commented that the treble is muddy-sounding. In fact, other than the over-emphasized bass, the overall sound is fairly muddy. As far as Koss' famous "lifetime warranty" is concerned, I obtained these through that program - when I sent in a pair of studio professional headphones which needed only foam earcushion replacement - and received back these [less expensive] portable-stereo headphones. When I contacted customer service, I was told they had already thrown away the ones I sent and had decided these were a fair substitution - if one ignores small issues like twice as high distortion, shorter cord, less expensive, etc. For their warranty service alone I wouldn't recommend a Koss product; however, their A250 ... is actually well-regarded by some professional reviewers.
11 Not bad at all, for folding affordable headphones.
Somehow, just about any set of headphones can get close to a 5 star rating on here, even if they have 15mm earbud drivers that can't play the any bass below about 150 hz. Most mainstream consumer headphones make outrageous claims in the specs, but sound awful and bottom out trying to reproduce anything close to source material.
These Koss phones aren't audiophile quality, and the treble is a little bit muddy, but they're by no means harsh like most cheap headphones, and you hear just about everything in your music. Plus, they're pretty efficient...plenty of volume, even on portables that usually strain to produce audible music in loud settings like an airplane. Bass response is great, and I haven't been able to make the drivers clip, even during pretty loud listening. If you care what your music sounds like, it's almost impossible to find headphones worth hearing that aren't oversized and a little ridiculous looking, as these Koss are. But hey, if you're into image, buy some street style nightmares and listen to popular music that isn't worth hearing anyways.
These Kosses are definitely recommended, espcially since they're relatively portable for the size (being foldable), and they more than hold their own against anything in their price range in the present market. For about $20 more you can get some nice Grado SR60s that are remarkably true to your music, but they don't really travel well, and you can't wear them in anything but totally stationary settings thanks to their oldest-school design. And they don't quite bump like these budget Koss UR40 do. Plus, Koss makes it really easy to take advantage of their lifetime warranty, which I have done twice with other models. And if you buy them, post a review, since the other two reviews on here so far are suspiciously duplicate plant-sounding salespitch-type reviews. Enjoy.
