1 Just what I needed
I just purchased this to be a good reliable place to store all my files. Formatted as a RAID 5 you'll get 693GB of redundant storage space from the four 250GB drives.
I tested the reliability of my data by popping out one of the four drives to simulate a hardware failure. As expected, everything continued to work! My data was still accessable and my computer didnt even blink. I popped back in the drive and it automatically fixed everything without any loss of data. Just what I wanted. It even warns you about the drive failure by beeping, so you will know that you need to get a replacement drive.
One annoying thing about this device is that the fan is a little noisy, but I'll deal with it. Works great with my Mac. It should be noted that you can connect this drive via Firewire400 as well as Firewire800 and USB.
