1 Perfect choice for data backup/storage
I recently bought the 40GB LaCie to back up files on my work and home computers. I couldn't recommend it more highly - it's stylish, well-priced, and exceptionally easy to use. It was plug-and-play on my Windows 2000 Prof desktop, my iMac running OSX, my G4 running OSX Jaguar, and even my old college laptop, which runs Windows 98. The documentation claims that the LaCie is compatible with most every common OS down to Win98 SE; I was wary of whether it would work with Win98 and would really be easy to use between PCs and Macs, but it worked like a charm (unlike the sneaky iPod that has to be formatted for one or the other).
And as a design enthusiast, I wanted an external hard drive that was deserving of the space next to my Macs, and the LaCie was really my only choice. The one caveat I have is that from the online photos, I expected it to have an aluminum casing, but alas, it does not - only aluminum on the short ends; otherwise the body is plastic. But at least it's metallic-painted and durable, and the whole unit is about the size of a paperback novel, making it ideal for travel.
