1 hardware and software not in sync
I bought this and it came with a copy of Toast. The install manual was on a CD -- there were several manuals on the CD, none of which matched the exact name on the drive. I looked at all the manuals, none showed a drive with connectors that matched the drive I received--none were even the same color! When I tried to install Toast it demanded an unlocking code of many digits. The code was printed in the CD envelope but had a different number of digits and was not accepted. LaCie and Roxio's websites were impossible to get assistance from -- sadly I returned this item, which I really wanted, to the vendor. The drive might be fantastic but who wants a product shipped with bogus software and no way to contact anyone for help without paying $35 per call!!

Quote of the Day:

Everything you've learned in school as "obvious" becomes less and less

obvious as you begin to study the universe. For example, there are no
solids in the universe. There's not even a suggestion of a solid.
There are no absolute continuums. There are no surfaces. There are no
straight lines.
-- R. Buckminster Fuller

I'm often asked the question, "Do you think there is extraterrestrial intelli-
gence?" I give the standard arguments -- there are a lot of places out there,
and use the word *billions*, and so on. And then I say it would be astonishing
to me if there weren't extraterrestrial intelligence, but of course there is as
yet no compelling evidence for it. And then I'm asked, "Yeah, but what do you
really think?" I say, "I just told you what I really think." "Yeah, but
what's your gut feeling?" But I try not to think with my gut. Really, it's
okay to reserve judgment until the evidence is in.
