1 Money Well Spent
I'm new to high speed internet. When a cable modem was installed this past Saturday, I had no ethernet card, so USB was required. I was very happy with the connection, even though the download speed was falling quite short of the claims made by our local cable provider...but no matter, this was such a vast improvement over 56k that it just didn't seem to matter.

One day later I found out about the AT&T CallVantage service, which allows you to have phone service via a high speed modem. Price was very attractive, but one problem--an ethernet card was required for hookup. That was the reason for purchasing the LNE100TX.

I'm still waiting for the CallVantage equipment, but in the meantime the money spent on this card may be the best money I've ever spent--download speeds increased dramatically once this card was installed, compared to USB! 250-320 KB/Sec speeds were being experienced with the USB connection (on a fairly recent Intel motherboard). They immediately zoomed to 450-520 KB/Sec using the LNE100TX. Repeated tests of the download speed have yielded similar results, so I'm confident that this upsurge can be attributed solely to the LNE100TX.

Installation was quick/easy, and the price was right. I'm very pleased, and surfing the internet is fun once more!
2 It's ok, but there are better
Pros:
- Fast connection.
- Doesn't tie up your phone line.

Cons:
- Not durable. Have been hooked offline a few times.

Overall, I'd get it only if you need it.
3 excellent card with great compatibility
this is a great card ive used in many systems, and it always installs flaswlessly. On some systems, I have tried more expensive 3com 10/100 nics and have compatibility issues, so i use this card and everything works perfect. You cant go wrong with this card and this price.
4 For the money, the best NIC on Amazon!
Installation was very simple and took less than 10 minutes, but most of that time involved removing and assembling the PC case. Windows ME automatically detected and installed the LNE100TX without any problems. Furthermore, I've tested this item under Linux (Fedora Core and Mandrake) and it performs just as smoothly as it does under Windows. Because my cable modem was previously connected to my PC via the USB port, I noticed a slight increase in the speed and quality of my broadband connection after I connected the modem to this card. If your computer does not have a NIC, this would be an ideal choice for the average desktop PC.
5 Worthless... period
Easy installation.... I think not. I tried to install this card on my WinME machine... everything was going fine until it said it needed an extra file. I found it, it said it installed. I'm rebooting my comp, when it freezes on the Windows Logo. I cut the power after about 10 mins of sitting there, then reboot. The comp loads, I goto Device Manager, and see that my Linksys card has a fatal error, oh joy. I uninstall, then try reinstalling the drivers, I point the way to that extra file it says it needs. Again, my computer froze, in the middle of installing. To make a long story short... I had to revert my system back to before I had ever tried to install this. Be warned!
6 Easy Pickins
I got my girlfriends Win98 vintage desktop up and going onto a cable access and with a linksys wireless router with some mild confusion. The Win98 desktop could not program the wireless router, but the WinXP notebook, with its cable connected to the router programmed it properly, and then the wireless link to the notebook and the Win98 desktop works ok.

Some persistance was necessary to sort that out, but I guess that par for the course when working with Windows.

The Linksys LNE100TX 10/100 Card worked without a hitch, prior stuff notwithstanding....

7 Slow connection; deception about rebates
Advantage -it is cheap. Disadvantages - unstable and slow connection and downdoading; you have to restart your computer at least twice in hour.
Also, do not trust Linksys's ads about rebates: I have bought 3 items that were eligible for rebates (i.e., 3 weeks before the end of the qualifying period). They deceived me and refused to pay any.
So, next time I will choose another brand
8 Inexpensive network card, clear manual, and it works !!
Our review title just about says it all -- for very little money, and merely opening up the PC tower and popping this in, we were connected to the network in no time with no trouble. The manual was clear and correct (amazing!). We can see why Linksys has a good reputation -- we are completely satisfied !
9 The best bang for the buck
I bought like a dozen of these cards ranging from Version 4 to version 5.1 and all of them work very well in my LAN.

I will recommend them to my friends and continue to buy them for my desktop PCs. They slap in and install perfectly w/o any problems. I've never had one fail or run erratically.

STRONG BUY.

10 This card is sweet
I'd like to tell you that it is better than a lot of other cards out there, but I don't think it is. When trouble shooting my network, I decided to return another ethernet card, made by another manufacturer, and see if that was my problem. Since I was using a Linksys Router Cable DSL hub, I thought it could be part of it. NOT, it performed the same. My performance problem turned out to be Norton Internet Security, which was only installed on that machine. Nothing to do with the hardware.
All in all, this card is a very nice piece of equipment. It couldn't install any easier. Booted down, with your power plug removed, you install it in an available PCI slot. When rebooting, it asks for the driver, which is located on the included CD. It loads, and your off to the races. No configuring. Just smooth performance.
Highly recommended. Linksys has been only good to me.
11 100 Mbps and Really Easy Setup
Don't you just love when plug n play really works the way that it is supposed to? It took all of two minutes to pop this reliable performer into my WinXP machine. XP immediately recognized it upon bootup; I didn't even need to use the driver CD that came with the card.

Performance since then has been exactly what I expected with no hiccups.

PROS
* True plug-n-play setup
* Hassle-free configuration and solid performance
* Price - under $$$ with the current manufacturer's rebate

CONS
* Linksys registration requires the serial number which is only on the card itself - write it down before installation

12 Does NOT work with certain POGO games
I had no problems with this until I became a POGO.com player. The games from EA sports sponsored by Pogo have compatibility issues. The pogo website says 3-com and D-link cards do not have these issues. Wish I knew that when I bought it.

Dan

13 Only ONE annoying thing
At the end of the installation (which took me an entire 7 minutes) I sat down to fill in the warranty card which asks for the serial number which is ONLY printed on the unit itself. That was VERY annoying.

But otherwise the instructions were clear, the installation a SNAP (i mean, my 72 year old mother could have done it, and she's still nervous about the VCR!)the software set up was easy and the performance has been great. 14 Incredibly cheap and works well
Picked this up at a local store and glad I didn't pay more for another brand. I got it for my dad who's finally going DSL. Installation was a breeze in his Win98 system. The package already comes with the latest drivers for the various flavors of Win95 and Win98, and if you use WinXP, the OS already has the drive for this card built-in, so it's pure plug-n-play. Just install the card in a PCI slot, turn on your computer, and maybe install the driver (depending on the OS version), and you are all set. Compatible with DSL and cable modems. This is one excellent value.

(There's a wire for the "wake-on-LAN" feature. I don't have a LAN, so don't know if it actually works.)

15 FAST, EASY, AFFORDABLE, and REALIABLE
I bought this little fella while it was on sale, and
with a [$$$] rebate. It was practically free.

I'm running Windows 2000 on a older Dell Dimension
(P333 w/192MB ram).

The installation of the card was very very easy. The
instructions with the unit were very clear. I am
techno-savvy, but I still though the text and the supporting
color pictures were great.

The software installation on Window 2000s was a snap. I
didn't even need the support disk. Windows 2k recognized
the card, and installed it all for me.

I LOVE PLUG-n-PLAY.

LinkSys is a reputable company ...LinkSys
has a great website as well. I bought this product for
the Name recognition and price. I've had it installed for
a few months and have had nothing but great success.

16 nothing special
Haven't had any compatibility or driver problems with it, however I haven't noticed anything special about it that makes it worth the extra price over the under [money] generic LAN cards that I also use on my home network. Most new computers come with onboard ethernet anyway so check your computer before you buy this to see if you actually even need it. There's probably a plug around back (if you bought your computer in the last 2 years) that looks like a really big phone cord plugin - that's for a cat-5 (RJ-45) ethernet cable to plug into and that should be all that you need to connect to your router/hub/cable modem.
17 Great card... ?
I had a CNet network card before and got terrible network performance. Then I decided to switch to these linksys cards, and they worked like a charm. Coupled with the linksys 5 port workgroup switch home networking is a breeze.

So why did I give it 4 stars? I wanted to use the Wake-On-Lan feature of the card, since my old CNet had it. But when I got the new linksys card, the WOL was only through a feature called PME (Power Management Event), whereas the CNet (and other cards) provide a WOL cable that connects to the motherboard. The linksys card did not provide for this cable.

Also, the card is version 5.1 but keeps appearing as version 4 in Windows XP.

18 Cheap and unreliable
I recently purchased two LNE100TX NICs...after just three months, one of the NICs is no longer functioning. Spend a little extra money and get a reliable NIC of decent quality.
19 Doesn't crash my computer
For 7 months I was using USB to connect my cable modem to my computer and at least 3 times a day my computer would crash. Well, finally, after so many months later, Microsoft's crash analysis error report eventually figured out it was the USB driver for the cable modem. So, I called my cable ISP and they suggested I use the Ethernet connection. I looked around and found the Linksys LNE100TX ver 5.1 at a great price, after all the rebates, and picked one up. I have to say I'm glad I did. Now, I don't use it for networking it is just to connect my computer to my cable modem. It simply works beautifully and my computer hasn't crashed for weeks. You're getting a great product at a nearly nothing price.
20 easy install
so far i have not had any problems at first i was kinda like i don't know about opening up this pc so i started looking for a usb ethernet thingy but i never found one that was winXP compatible.anyway i installed it winXP detected it, did not have to use the driver disk, set up my dsl stuff and BAM! i was surfing the net at blazing speed!
21 nice and
A Decent card for the price. This is one of the FEW products I will use by the linksys people.

Thinking of buying an internet "router" (internet connection sharing gizmo) by linksys? think again.. go buy one from NetGear.

I bought two of these cards for spare machines. When the chips are down you're far better off with either an Intel 10/100 Pro+ or 3COM 3C905 card instead.

22 Exclent NIC for the money - Bus Mastering is the way to go!!
This card is easy to install and it'll work right after you install the driver and restart your system (95, 98, 98se)...Don't fall with the [inexpensive]NIC, go with BUS MASTERING..... it'll make you happy!
23 This card is the best I've seen!
Before using this card, I bought a Network Everywhere NC100 card (by Linksys, but it's part of their "cheaper model" line) and used it for a week and took it back. So, I got this one and installed it after about an hour, but it was not at all because of Linksys, but because I had forgot to "remove" the card's drivers before taking it out, and when I installed the new card's drivers over the last I had many problems. I fresh install of Windows 98 did it. Overall, this card is very exceptional, and improved my connection from a 1.3 Mbps connection through a USB connection with my cable modem to a 1.6 Mbps connection through ethernet. I am happy I paid the extra money for this, because it works great. I also bought a Linksys router which should arrive soon. LInksys is very reliable and I will never buy anything else. PLus, they have extensive support for new drivers so you never need to worry about the card not working properly. It is super fast, and it has some Wake-on-Lan option that lets you turn your computer on from anywhere on the network. I never use it, but this thing rocks.

Version Reviewed: 5.1

24 not bad
easy to install...nice detailed instructions. not bad for 20 bucks
25 Great add-on hardware
This card is simple to install and even easier to use. I have had no problems with installing it on any of my windows boxes 95 through XP) And the price tag is perfect...
26 ??? No Macs ???? too Bad, Products are good ...
The Linksys products I've purchased in the past are good, and even the compnay policy / warrenty ( spelling ??? ) is strong. I know, folk's may say, " Well, this guy's got Macs, too bad for him." We are all entitled to our own humble opinion ...

But, No Drivers are available for the Mac Product line. No OS X.
No 9.x's . No 8.x's.

I realize that the only people who get the decission to buy the Macs are not the "accounting" dept. or DP ... Just us small business owners with 10 - 20 networked computers ... But, this isn't about Macs vs. Win boxes; it's about missed opportunity by Linksys to support a customer base. I mean, really, without the hardcore out there, would there even be any support for Lynix?

27 unreliable
Linksys shipped several very different versions under the same name: LNE100TX. The version 2.0 was good (with 4 indicators), versions 4.0 and 4.1 (with 2 indicators) are unreliable. One v4.0 card of mine has a problem with throughput, which drops down to 100KB/s under stress.
28 Easy of installation on multiple os's at a good price
This particular linksys card is a total breeze to install on *BSD, Linux and Windows boxes. Considering the price, its a good deal for a 10/100 FD card. Performance is not the greatest, but for a small home network, I'd say its hard to beat the price for what you get.
29 Never had a problem have had it...
I have had the LNE100TX card for the past 2 years... Since version 4. Since Windows ME, and never has it let me down... It's inexpensive compared to 3com... It serves my Cable modem needs well...

This is a must buy product.

30 Good for a Home LAN
If you're just trying to network a couple of computers together, this is a fine card. If you're doing any heavier-duty networking, though, get something a little more robust.
31 SCORE!
I was looking for a card to solve my LAN party needs. My friends and I have lan partys and they bring their computers to my house. Then all we do is hook up to a hub and its off to great gameing!! This card rules for a smooth/excellent gameing experience!
32 Fantastic Product
The installation of this network interface card was amazingly easy. It works great with my DSL connection and would highly recommend it. That is all I have to say because the installation of this card was that quick!!
33 Nice product for the price
Easy to install, works well, decent features for the price and never a problem with the speed auto-detect (had nightmares with a far more expensive card). Linux drivers work nice too!
34 cheap and effective
This network adapter provides good performance and an excellent price and should adequately serve the networking needs of most users. However, I had a few stability issues in one system after installing this card. Moreover, it doesn't offer the extra performance, management features, and support of a premium NIC, although such frills should not be expected at this price level.

I used two of these NICs (chipset version 4.1) for a home network and found their performance satisfactory. Installation was simple, and the manual was clear and descriptive. Functional Windows 9x drivers were loaded from the included diskette, and the latest drivers are available on the Linksys website. Unfortunately, the included diagnostic program works only when the system is booted in MS-DOS; it does not work within Windows. This limitation could become an inconvenience when troubleshooting network problems, especially in an OS that does not have a true MS-DOS mode, such as Windows NT/2000 or Linux.

Also, I encountered some stability problems after installing this NIC in an IBM Aptiva with a SIS chipset. Occasionally I would get the blue screen of death (BSOD) in Windows 98 after performing some network file transfers with another PC. The BSODs would usually refer to an conflict in a VxD, which usually means a device driver issue. Although the BSODs were not frequent enough to drive me to madness, they were annoying.

I've used pricier NICs from networking giants 3Com and Intel, and they offer niceties like reduced CPU utilization, hardware packet encryption, and Windows-based configuration and diagnostic programs. You may also get better tech support from these companies, although I fortunately don't have the experience to confirm this. However, unless you are a network administrator or power user, you would probably not appreciate or use these benefits enough to justify the significant price differential, and you would thus do well to buy the Linksys LNE100TX or similar low-price NIC's. Just don't expect peak performance or premium features from a NIC when you're paying peanuts for it.

Compare with: Netgear FA312, SMC 1255TX, D-Link DFE-530TX+
Pricier alternatives: 3Com 3C905C-TX-M, Intel Pro/100 S

35 great card & great price
Having used a lot of Linksys products in the past, I generally find them to be best value for the money, and they get the job done well. I purchased this particular card for my cable internet at home a few months ago, and everything has worked fine with it so far. Not only is the price of this card very good, but I think Linksys has done a very nice job making the installation instructions simple and easy-to-understand.

Also, this card works just fine with Windows XP; you don't even need to do anything but install the card in the computer, XP has the drivers built in.

36 plug-n-play for linux
Plugged it into my Linux box, rebooted, and the system recognized it and set it up first try. No drivers to fiddle with, no config files to decipher. Excellent.
37 great card, easy install, no problems
i got this card for my pc when i got a dsl modem and wanted to network a few pc's onto it. the install was very easy for this, they had directions for installing on just about any type of os available. it also has a few nice features on it such as WoL, for those of you who don't know what this means it stands for "wake on LAN" which allows a user on one pc to turn on or "wake up" a pc with this feature enabled from their pc. so far i've had no problems with it or with the hub i got for the network, which was a 4-port 10/100 linksys hub.
38 Great Card, Great Price, No Problems
Linksys is a leader in networking for good reason. I first got this card because of my new cable internet connection. Even if you are a novice computer user with no experience in computer hardware you can install this card youself! The directions are very good with step by step instructions that are easy to read for anyone. Once you have it installed the driver instructions are also easy to read and offer them for Any operating system you can think of. If you are running windows xp (or thinking of upgrading) you don't even need to install the drivers yourself because they are built into windowsxp and it will install itself making instulation that much easier! They also have a nice webpage that further explains troubleshooting if you get into a problem for some reason! Don't go pay some store 50-100 bucks to install a network card you can do it yourself in 20 mintues for nothing and Linksys makes it possible at a very good price!

Also, after having the card installed for over a year it has never gave me any problems whatsoever! I wish i could say that about some other hardware that i have purchased!

39 Great product! Easy and very useful! LINKSYS DOES IT AGAIN!
Home networking is something that if you have more than one computer in your house, then there is no doubt of doing it. A broadband connection is a plus in my opinion. This card is one of the cheapest out there and yet, it performs like any other. I get speeds up to 100 mb/s. This is very important for networks because of the sharing of the internet connection, sharing files (transferring too), and my favorite thing to do, gaming. I have friends come over all the time playing over our network games. We have a blast. It wouldn't have been possible for us to have a great time without this little piece of plastic and steel with some connectors that costed me a very ... amount. Linksys is my company of choice when it comes to networking. It is so easy to set up. Don't get a professional and waste money. I was up in 5 minutes and don't tell me it was my mad skills in the computer world. Either way, this is a surefire hit! Don't go wrong! Get this and your won't be dis-satisfied.
40 Higly Recommended
Out of the Box set-up, been running since 2/2/2001 with NO PROBLEMS!!! Wow!!
41 If you have Windows ME...read my review
I just installed this NIC card and I'm so far happy with it's performance. My only complaint about it is that it doesn't have any installing instructions for Windows ME in the box. You have to go to the Linksys website and click on the service&support menu-> user guides-> and then select LNE 100TX - EtherFast 10/100 LAN Card. Basically, when the new device window comes up all you have to do in click on advance and select A:\winme as the location of your drivers.

If you follow the Window 98 instructions you might be able to figure it out, but you'll most likely end up with a headache like me. Trust me, save yourself the grief and go to their website and print out the instructions on how to install on Windows ME. Besides, it will give you something to do while you wait for it to arrive.

Also if you have been using broadband with a USB connection, I suggest you by this product or some other NIC card. After installing this card my cable modem downloads from websites have been on the average faster then my USB connection. So if you don't have a NIC card or don't like the one you have then get this one. I my case it's been a cheap solution for faster performance.

42 It doesn't get any easier
I recently picked up two of these cards to hang two systems off of a cable modem. The installation couldn't have been easier. Just plug the card in and install the drivers. Windows (ME) had no problem recognizing the card on either machine. Once the cable modem was installed everything worked like a charm.

Two words of warning:
- The directions are very complete, but don't include specific directions for Windows ME. I doubt this would trip anybody up and the Windows 98 directions are certainly good enough.

- The drivers available on the Linksys website require you to know information that is only available on the card. If for some reason your box doesn't have a driver disk (one of mine didn't), make sure to download the correct driver set before installing the card.

43 Very happy
I bought three of these and the Linksys Etherfast 4-port Cable/DSL router (BEFSR41) to hook my computers to my ADSL broadband. The LAN cards went into three very different computers ranging from an older AT motherboard with a Pentium 120 running Windows 95 to an ATX motherboard with an 800 MHz Pentium III running Windows 98SE. These LAN cards just went straight in to each of the three computers and worked immediately with the normal plug&play installation. The router also worked perfectly once I had the settings sorted in the computers. I now have simultaneous broadband from any of the computers and it has been working fine for over six months.
44 Good Product
Good product when used with the linksys ethernet router! I've had mine in for a few months and had no problems. Fast Easy install and excellent documentation.
45 Good card but some problem at first
Before I installed this network card, I used USB to connect to my cable modem and everything was working perfectly fine. Then I installed this card hoping to use ethernet to connect to my modem, then something went wrong. Something was really wrong with this card because it was working properly and I had full cable connection. But the problem was that I cannot retrieve website information when I opened either IE or Netscape. It took me 3 days with many phone calls to Linksys, my pc manufacture, and my cable ISP, and finally we found out a problem with my system file that is used to establish connection with DNS. I don't whether the problem was caused by the card or something else but the problem did occur after the installation. But overall, the card is working fine so far. So it's good to buy it if you can get a rebate or discount with it.
46 Good Quality Product
After having problems trying to get my cable modem working via a USB connection, I ran out and bought this Linksys. Installation was so simple and fast, and it worked right away. Very intuitive to set up. All I needed was a Phillips screwdriver to open one of those little metal-covered slots near the motherboard. Then just popped the card into place, closed the tower and painlessly installed the drivers.
47 Excellent Card
I bought this card because my new computer came with an accton pci ethernet lan card which would always start working then stop, then start again. I got tired of it, and decided to buy a linksys card becuase of many excellent reviews by pc world magazine. It took probably less than 10 minutes to install the whole thing (from taking the cables out to installing the software). The speed difference is very noticable. I'm using this on Windows ME and it works excellent. A MUST BUY for the price.
48 Be careful if you need WOL
If you don't care about WOL the card works fine. My system requires a 3-pin WOL cable to connect the LAN card to the system board. The LNE100TX item description says it has one, but the card that came (version 5) does not have this type of interface. Check for compatibility before you buy it!! I ended up returning mine.
49 Bullocks! Stay Away
This thing doesn't work with Windows XP (works fine in win2k)....
50 Stable Card
I built an AMD Thunderbird 900 system with an ECS K7vma motherboard and I have had no conflicts. I run Windows 2000 Professional with a cable modem and the card is very stable. You can rarely beat the price. I can't really say anything negative about this card. Never used Linksys products before this card but I don't hesitate doing so in the future.
51 Bad card, worse support
I got one of this cards and did't work at all. Try calling coustumer service. The worse I have ever seen. They don't return the phone calls or e-mails. What is worse, after running the test included with the drivers my 32 bit files got corrupted and have to reinstall WIN 98se. STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY PRODUCTS.
52 Modem is OK customer support is bad
I have an HP6835 Computer and I installed this great Modem on it but my motherboard could not except it and it keep giving me error messages. I think the card is OK but you have to will know what kind of motherboard you have.
53 Up and Running in Less than 30 Minutes
We plugged it in, powered it up, loaded the drivers, and it worked. Absolutely no hassles. My nine year old son helped me install the card. The majority of the time required to install the card was consumed by unplugging all the cables from the computer, opening the case, vacuuming out the dust (a little preventative maintenance can't hurt), closing the case, and reconnecting all the cables.
54 Very good
I bought two of these. On one computer (my older one) it installed without a hitch. On my newer computer it kept freezing at "updating hardware profiles." I went to Linksys's website and found out that my motherboard has a known conflict with the card. The site said to download specific drivers, which I did, yet it still didn't work. After going back and forth on Creative Lab's Tech support (I was having the same problem with one of THEIR products) we finally got far enough that the linksys would install. I don't blame the card for this, I blame my computer, which has always seemed to have an aversion to installing new hardware. The installation on a 'normal' computer was quick and painless, and seems to be working perfectly. I would recommend digging up the manual for your motherboard, finding the "Wake on LAN" in the cmos is a bit hard on some.
55 I was surprised!
I had problems with a Netgear in my computer (with the M5ALA motherboard) and put moved that one to my wife's computer and then reluctantly bought this Linksys. I had it working in less than 5 minutes. I have a Netgear RT314 router and a cable modem service and the card worked fine. I really wanted to try the D-link because many seem to have problems with the LNE100TX but I got it for ... (.... rebated) so I could not pass that up. I have only been using it for one day but not one single problem so far. I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 because of how this company has many different versions of this card that take different drivers, yet they are all the same model number. I wanted to make sure I had the latest driver so I had to turn off my computer and take the card back out to look at the chip. This is pretty stupid, but my only complaint.
56 Linksys LNE-100TX Review
I just re-installed this card after switching to a 3Com Etherlink 3C900B-TPO NIC. My idea was that the 3Com was supposed to perform better on my Cable Modem then anything else. WRONG! I had frequent lockups in my system (AMD Athlon "classic" 750 & Tyan S2380 Motherboard w/256Mb PC-133 SDRAM) from the first moment I booted in the new drivers. The 3Com was not nearly as fast as the Linksys. This NIC is rated tops by PC World, and I agree.
57 Expect shoddy hardware
When I first came to college I ended up helping a number of people connect to the residential network. Of everyone I know only three people weren't able to get online, and all three had bought a Linksys LNE100TX. The model seems to be prone to failure, and behaves sporadically even at the best of times. I've spent hours installing and reinstalling drivers for this card. Even if it does work, it's just not worth the bother of installing it. If you're looking for a good, cheap ethernet NIC, go with D-Link.
58 Stay away
Stay away from Linksys cards. I build small business networks for a living. Many customers buy Linksys cards becuase they are inexpensive, but alway end up regreting it. Installation is easy but once you start to use it, you will notice that your computer will be more prone to crashes and mouse problems. I have tried the cards on Compaqs, Dells, and generic machines running Win 98, ME, NT4 and Win2000 and have problems with them all. You get what you pay for!
59 Beware Linux user
If you have any of the Window OS (i.e 95/98/ME/2000), this card will work great, i bought 3 of them, two for a 98 and an ME, installing was quicky, all you have to do is put them in and install the driver, it work great with window. If you have a linux box, becareful, the card claim it work with any major Linux os but my personal experience was different, i have a box with Redhat 6.2, linksys gave me a driver with the tulip.o driver, first, i have to compiled the tulip among various other C++ file, but one of the file ask for a "special switch" during compilation which Linksys didn't mention anything about, after that, i went to their website, and linksys have four different driver for this card, the reason is the chipset on the card, some of the chipset was make by Linksys, other was make by Digital or other manufacture, after download the new driver, and couple day with it, it work, but it is such a hassle. Get this card if you use Window, if you use a linux machine, you may want to try 3COM card or SMC card instead
60 Hit or miss in Windows ME with Revision 4
I'd give this card a 5/5 stars if Linksys stayed with Revision 2 of the card, but they changed it to Revision 4. This causes all sorts of trouble and you use windows default drivers. I don't even know what this thing does in 98. It's a shame that this had to happen, but I think I'm going to go with netgear now.
61 Awesome card
I have Windows 2000 OS and this card installed in a blast. I have other kinds in other computers but this one was the easiest to install and seems to perform the best. Highly recommended with Win2k!
62 Too bad one star is the lowest rating I can give to this
I have a number of other Linksys products (router, wireless access point and the PCMCIA wireless card), and like them all... except this card. After multiple calls to customer support and a number of attempts to upgrade the drivers from their website, I finally gave up and bought a Netgear card (which installed and worked in under 15 minutes).
63 OK, but installation confusing
I have installed two of these, and each time the installation instructions failed but for different reasons. I had to play around a fair amount to find the files that the installation program needed, either already on my hard disk, on the Windows installation CD or on the diskette that came with the card.

Even on the diskette, the installer was unable to find the required files until I figured out where they were on the disk and told it. I find it astounding that they can't get their own installation program to find their own files.

64 These are great... For the price.
If you asked me what network card to purchase under $20 it would be a toss-up between NetGear and this card. I highly recomend both over those no-name brand things you can get, but neither are the greatest. I have, however, used Linksys cards (including this one) in many application and I've never had a problem. Beware that the drivers aren't included in the OS which can be a pain, but of course they include drivers, and their website posts the latest ones.

If you can get an Intel or 3com NIC, do it. If you can't look at this one and the NetGear. They will work for you.

65 Excellent card at a great price
The linksys card not only came with great instructions, but proviedes quick acces to the internet via a DSL connection (running Windows ME). When used in conjunction with a hub and another computer, it provides a extremely quick link to the other computer(s). It is affordable, easy to install and comes with complete software. I have bought two of them!
66 Spend a few extra bucks
I work technical support for a DSL Internet service Provider. The *only* manufacturer of Ethernet cards that we consistently have a problem with is Linksys. Avoid them. Their router seems to be okay, but the cards are terrible.
67 Installed Flawlessly for my DSL Setup
After having good recommendations from the networking dept at work I bought a Linksys to install DSL at my home on a Win98 box. The installation was plug & play and it runs great. Purchased more cards for the other computers at my house; again, installed flawlessly on Win2000.
68 Straightforward, Easy-to-install
I purchased 3 of these cards. Two were installed on Windows 2000 machines, and a third on a Windows 98SE. Easch installation took only a few minutes, and was completely trouble-free on all 3 computers, although these 3 machines utilized different motherboards. I only needed to follow directions from the single-sheet, full-color detailed instruction sheets that were included with the product. Highly recommended!
69 Home network a cinch.
Installed 3 Linksys LNE100TX cards on home network about a year ago, and all have worked great! Install was easy on all the machines (Win 98) and along with 5 port Linksys hub, speed and compatability is excellent. Just installed Linksys 1 port cable router to network. Install took about 10 minutes and easy to configure. All three machines now have excellent internet access sharing (1500+ kbps) with only 1 IP address. No problems here!
70 Works Great!
If you don't realize that PCI stands for Programmable Computer Interface, then you are the kind of goober who shouldn't be doing his own upgrades. Otherwise you can work out any potential problem with this card just fine. I put two in some Windows Me machines and the driver software wasn't on the floppies that came with them, so I went to their website and downloaded them, installed them and was fine. They are performing flawlessly with my Linksys hub for cable modem and two other disimilar systems with different cards and computer set ups. I see no reason to pay the 3 Com price for a ethernet card--and I think 3 Com is now in trouble....
71 An everchanging product
I got a couple of the LNE100TX cards along with the Linksys Network in a box product a year ago. I had no problems using it under Windows 98. But to get it to work in Red Hat 6.2 I had to recompile the Tulip dirver using the latest source code (not the source that came with the card). They work fine under Red Hat 7.0 too using the tulip drivers that came with the OS. I just got another one of these a couple of weeks ago thinking it would work fine on another computer with Linux. Turns out they changed the controller chip on this card. It now uses the same controller as Linksys' Network Everywhere brand. The drivers that came with the card did not work with Windows 98, but I had another set of drivers for the Network Everywhere brand which worked fine. It worked fine under Windows 2000 also. I have yet to get it to work under Red Hat 7.0 though. No amount of recompiling of the Tulip driver has made it work yet, but I think Red Hat may be partially responsible for that. To summarize my review: Linksys keeps changing the chip in the card every year so beware if you use Linux. Their website shows 6 different drivers for one model. They ought to change the model number everytime they change the chip.
72 Excellent Dcoumentation, Great Price, Easy Installation
Not everything happens in the order you expect. I thought I would have DSL in on my old computer before anything happened, but the new computer came first, my router and Linksys card and the cables. So I decided why not last things first.

The documentation is outstanding. clear and concise text, pictures and graphics. Separate sections for different operating systems walking you through each step of the way.

This was my first experience with a network, the card and drivers installed as stated, and I had the two computers 'talking to each other' with my printer networked as well through the Linksys router in no time.

I expected I might run into a problem or two connecting a new PIII w/ME to a four year old PI with an old Win95 installation that really needs cleaning up, but not a hitch. I'm delighted.

73 works fine
I had problems installing the driver into my Windows 98. I called customer support at 8pm Pacific Time and they answered within 10 mins. In less than five minutes we got the software installed and I haven't had any problems since. I am using it to connect my DSL. Good luck.
74 A Good Card For The Price
First, I don't know what everyone is talking about Linksys's service and support, I have called twice in the past 3 days and got someone on the phone in less than 15 min. This is by far the least amount of time I have ever been on hold with a company about a problem with one of their product.

Second, I agree with some that have said the card doesn't always work. My card stopped responding. I haven't a clue why but with the 2nd call I have a replacement coming.

I am very satisfied with the performance of the card. I have no problem highly recommending this card to anyone. Easy to install and setup.

75 A really Bad NIC...
Inconsistent quality, iffy installation in Windows, and diagnostics only in DOS. This is the Linksys LNE100TX. We have plenty of our customer who opt for this card and have ended=up regretting doing so. The price is what initially attracts, but the shabby construction, questionable installation, and high failure rate - not to mention Linksys' horrible customer support.

Avoid this one. You're not saving any money buying this card. You're only gaining headaches and dissappointment with the Linksys card.

76 same happend to me - wish I had read this
I bought 2 of these cards and the router/hub. Router/hub worked fine, both cards had problems with my pc's. I went to the store and bought $5 cheapies and they worked fine. So much for buying everyhting from the same manufacturer.

The best was when support finally called they would't help because I did not have their nic cards INSTALLED, even though I had them in the corner collecting dust. nasty supprt. Ouch.

77 Quirky Drivers, poor Linux support
I bought this card with the idea of using it with Linux (Mandrake 7.x) because Linksys had drivers and support page for Linux installation. I finally gave up just short of re-compiling the kernal (network card should not be *that* difficult to support). After spending serveral days search the net for updated drivers and newgroup info on the card, I decided it wasn't worth the effort and I put my Intel 21040 chipset card back in (which now works with the latest dist of Mandrake). Windows install was odd, but finally worked after tweeking the BIOS settings.
78 No Drivers on Diskette-Nasty Support People-
What a nightmare! The first Linksys LNE100 TX EtherFast 10/100 Lan CARD with WOL I got was "bad" and was not acknowledged by my system. When I called the customer support line, I was told this is very common. I got another card and when the 'add hardware' wizard came up, it could not find the driver. I did everything to get the driver installed.... followed the instructions, browsed for the driver, tried to manually install it...everything...When I called the alleged 365 24/7 support line this afternoon, I was put on hold for 15-20 mins each time to then get connected to an answering machine! Tonite, I finally reached someone who was like the rude obnoxsious tech guy from Saturday Night Live. He gave me the same instructions that I had already tried but I tried again after I hung up with him and still no luck. He was a horrible guy..."Well Sue,it's been fun but I gotta go now!" I called back to speak to someone else and this next guy stated that I was missing my driver file after I told him everything that was in my a:\win95 folder. He made an attempt to be polite with me but nevertheless kept telling me to just return the product for a refund if it was not working with my computer. He told me that they do not guarantee their products on all systems. I had to remind him that I was missing the driver. I downloaded the driver from the net but that file did not work either. I will return the card and the router and NEVER do business with Linksys again. Nobody ever called me back when I left my message in the afternoon and their machine. They are laughing all the way to the bank at people buying their products as far as I'm concerned.
79 High defective rate and poor customer support
1 out of 5 defective unit. I also purchased 24-port hub with 2 bad ports and emailed or called Linksys customer support. They never respond. You can only wish that nothing goes wrong with your purchase!! How about thumb down rating with Linksys!
80 Doesn't work for Win2K
I bought 2 Linksys LNE100TX cards and one 5 port HUB. The connection is very simple and it works in the first 5 minutes on my Windows 2000 PC. My Windows NT 4.0 PC still can connect to other Win NT PC, but the Win2K PC lost the connection. I can get another 4-5 minutes connection back if I reboot the Win2K PC, but this is not it suppose to work. I download the latest driver from the Web, but still couldn't fix this problem.
81 Great price, rugged and reliable!
A good quality network card for setting up a home network. I have 3 of these cards and have never had a problem with any of them. I also use the LinkSys 5-port switch to connect them all and share the Internet with my DSL modem. These network cards are rugged and reliable, and an exceptional value for the price!
82 Box should say "Tested with Linux--but not Red Hat!"
Just a warning that this card is incompatible with Red Hat 6.2. Of course it is my fault for not checking compatibility before I bought, however, the sticker on the box has a nice picture of a penguin, and says "Tested with Linux!" so Linksys looks good to people jumping on the Linux bandwagon, like me. But isn't it rather lame that this "generic" card isn't compatible with the most popular Linux distribution in N. America? If I had found Red Hat's 6.2 hardware compatibility page, I wouldn't have bought this card:

http://www.redhat.com/support/hardware/intel/62/rh6.2-hcl-i.ld-11.html

Win Me recognized it with no problems, big whup.

83 Excellent for home networks
I have 3 LinkSys cards in my home network. The price was right and they have worked without a hitch. Installation was as easy as any network card under Windows 98 SE. Compatible with my VIA and Ali chipset motherboards. Use with their 5 port hub or switch (hub with uplink port).
84 Dont ever buy a Linksys
I work with a University network, we sell and support all different kinds of NIC's and from experience. there and SMC nic's have always performed the worst. My advice is to go with a 3COMM or, even better yet, a NETGEAR card
85 Card works perfectly
Because of a delay with my DSL account setup, I was given the card by my ISP for no charge. I installed it and had it working within five minutes with absolutely no problems on my Win98 machine. My download speeds have been fine. The only change that I have made was to switched the included CAT5 cable with the newer CAT5e(or is it "A", i can't remember offhand)and gained a significant increase in download speed.

Just as in any other product market, consumers have been brainwashed to believe that big names and higher prices = better quality. Prior to getting DSL, the two 33.6k and later two 56k modems I bought for my two computers have all been small name brands. I never had a single problem with any one of them and I also bought each for about $30 dollars cheaper than say a 3Com or a motorola. My parents on the other hand have a computer that had a 3com modem in it that fried. Go figure.

I also think that many average home users that buy these products have limited know-how when it comes to installing and configuring these products. And just because someone tells you they are an IT expert doesn't mean they really are or that they know as much as they think they do. This I have learned through extensive experience in dealing with several of my clients' IT people.

For less than twenty bucks, buy the card. Use common sense while installing it and unless you happen to get a defective card (which even 3com has put on a store shelf)you shouldn't have any problems. And if you do, don't assume automatically that it's the card. In many cases it's probably Windows itself. Call your ISP with internet problems; call you computer tech support about computer problems.

86 Warning - They never send this product!!
I ordered this product 1 month back, but haven't received it yet! And they say it won't be shipped for another 2-3 weeks! The whole mail-in-rebate is a fiasco to trap poor customer, because you will never receive the product before the mail-in-rebate offer expires!!!
87 Nice card, very nice price !
I had no trouble installing this card in my Windows 2000 Server. I connected my Cable modem to it and success came quick and easy. It has been in use for several months without any problem. Great product, great price. I also have one of these in my Windows NT computer on this network - where it is also working fine. Cheers !
88 A good NIC
No problems, worked under 98, NT, 2K and Linux (tulip).
89 i agree...quite whinning
These guys that have worked with networking for ABOUT 2 yrs?! First of all he does'nt even know how long he has been doing this job and, second of all,he obviously did not know what the hell he was doing. This product ROCKS ecspeially when used with their one and only cable router.I installed a 5 pc system from the ground up and used LINKSYS cards also and never had a problem the interface is easy to use and even runs diagnostics also. I highly reccomend this product!! Do not listen to the whinners that do not know what they are doing!
90 They work for me in win98 and linux (dist. mandrake 7.0)
I have a client server network at home 6 PC's and the linksys seems to work flawlessly so far. I've been netowrking for 8 years and went from lnepciII to lnetx100 in the last 4 years. Both lynksys cards installed easily and the drivers were picked right up in 95/98(although I did have to browse the floppy to win9x folder to find them). In Linux they work perfectly as ne2000 compatible. I would have to say I am suprised to see so many angry users. I have to give it 5 and a good review!
91 Linksys creeping up on 3COM
I took a networking class at my high school this year (the MCSE Networking Essentials) and alone fulfilled the class objective. We were supposed to put together a stand-alone network by the end of the semester with the computers from the previous semester's A+ Cert. class. We had two Linksys ISA cards and a PCI card, and an SMC card. I got to take home the PCI card because they didn't work in the computers we had. It plugged in to Windows 2000 Pro easily, and I had no trouble getting my DSL connection up and running. We're going Linksys to network our home now. 3COM has consistently disappointed me in their modems, and the one 3COM NIC card we had didn't operate! I tried it on at least 3 different PCs, including my own.
92 B+
I did not have problems to install or run the card. As for speed, it's exactly same as 3Com's expensive one in my notebook. A 22MB file can be tranferred in less than 9 seconds. Hope this also works for linux(I haven't tried it). ... I gave it 4 stars because i found the cable cannot fit nicely to the card.
93 You get what you pay for!!!
A very very poor product. I gave 1 star cos I could'nt go lower than that. I have been networking for at least 2 yrs. and yeah I have worked with the big names. But they never give any problems. I am believer in giving an opportunity to others. So I did and I suffered. THIS PRODUCT DIDN'T EVEN HAVE THE RIGHT DRIVER IN THE PROVIDED DISK. I had to go thier website and download the driver. Well, that was not the end. I must have added and removed this about 10 times and finally I gave up.

I am going to return this product and pay little more money and get a better one.

I WOULD NEVER BUY ANY PRODUCT FROM THIS COMPANY.

I tried to call tech support between 9-10 pm and I must have waited for an hour and then I gave up. There is no message about wait..nothing.

94 WHAT'S WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE?
I don't know what the big deal is with all the bad reviews for this $20.00 (yes $20.00!) ethernet card. Anyway, you people must naturally be clutzes or something because this card works fine with my DSL. Plus it's $80 - $100 cheaper than the big name (that's all it is) 3COM ethernet card that does the same exact thing. Okay ... if it didn't work for you, then big deal ... you lost a $20 spot. But try having a 3COM 56k modem fry on you after 1 month ... mine did. That was a big deal because it cost somewhere around $100. So don't listen to these whiners and buy this card.
95 Stuttering and collision prone
I have four identical computers at the office connected through a 10-T HP High end hub. I have been using NIC cards for 5 years. This card is slow, and locks the mouse up, and 'dissapears' from the hub link. The computers are PIII 700's w/128M. I took it out, and replaced it with a Netgear and worked perfectly. To see if it was the Linksys, I tested different hubs, and the Linksys card in the other computers; same problem. It's a horrible card or drivers! ie. The stuttering makes it impossible to play LAN lunch games!
96 Not compatible with Win98?
I bought and installed this card with (relatively) little hassle. I'd never even opened up my computer before, but the card plugged in easily and I was feeling pretty cocky. When I started up my machine, I had to walk through the "new hardware" installation wizard *three* times before the card was properly recognized (probably not the card's fault... ). Then the real problems began. I chatted with no fewer than five tech support people at my ISP because although my DSL was up and running, neither Netscape nor IE5 was able to find the network. Finally, one guy thought to ask which brand of ethernet card I had. When I said Linksys, he said, "Oh, no." Turns out they've had at least three other people who couldn't get these cards to function properly with Win98. I don't know who to hate more--Linksys or Microsoft.

By the way, my ISP guy recommended Netgear or 3Comm as the best ethernet cards to buy.

97 Great Deal
I installed this card in a pentium 75 in less than 2 minutes. I booted down, put it in and boom. It was there. Works EXCELLENT with linux as well! I also installed one in my windows 2000 server. Had to download the drivers but works excellent through my cable/dsl router. They keep up to date drivers and linksys has some nice products.
98 Bad NIC
My friend recently purchased the card and ended up returning it due to the low transfer rate. For some reason pictures and logos were coming up really slow. After installing a 3com card, there was a HUGE difference. IF you are looking for a cheap good card, check out the D-Link. I'm borring a friends right now. NO problems but I think the 3com is faster d/l speed. Thinking of getting a 3-com for the 10/100 feature, but its just so much more expensive. NOt sure if its worth it. Any suggestions?
99 Doesn't work
I purchased two of these cards to join my PC's together at home and I also purchased a Linksys 100Mbit hub. The idea being that if they were all from the same manufacturer then I shouldn't have any problems. Well, I've been trying to get my network working properly for the past four months without much luck. I have just replaced both of the network cards and they are still performing at about the speed of a 56k modem. I think it has something to do with my NT machine which is a dual-pentium 133Mhz. They have a note on their web site about it not always working with dual pentiums. Technical support is only available during work hours when you are nowhere near your home machine and if you e-mail them they just say "call me, we can do this". After three phone calls and 30 minutes on hold I decided to give up. Oh well, I shall have to try another brand. If you don't have a dual pentium and you do have an up-to-date BIOS then this would probably be an ideal card to give you great performance at a great price.
