1 Item used for TIVO
I connected my TIVO to my Linksys rounter WRT54G and it works great. Also I am now able to use TIVO "To Go" by downloading a show from my Tivo to my laptop.
2 TiVo connectivity made simple
I just received my USB100TX and connected it directly to my TiVo Series 2 with the supplied USB A-B cable. It does *not* come with a CAT-5 UTP Cable, but I have plenty spare and hooked it up. As soon as it was wired to both the TiVo and a hub in my nearby wiring closet the link light was activated. I did not need any of the manuals or driver disks that came in the package.
Within minutes I'd configured my TiVo to recognize the network adapter and my Linksys BEFSR41 Firewall/Router had allocated it a DHCP address.
I immediately ran the test-connection and also forced a daily update.
Downloading schedules are super quick compared to the dialup option. Obviously new firmware updates will also be significantly quicker. Plus the phone line won't be tied up during the call.
I had previously tried a different USB/Ethernet adapter and my TiVo did not recognize it (D-Link USB-650) so beware of using that on a TiVo.
The Linksys USB100TX is the wired adaptor recommended by TiVo and it works perfectly, first time.
3 Good alternative to Sony's PS2 Network Adapter
Got this for about a quarter of what the official Sony PS2 Network Adapter goes for. Plugged it in and my PS2 recognized it by name immediately. Works flawlessly with EverQuest: Online Adventures Beta 3. Haven't tested it with any other games, 'cause EQ is all I have. Haven't tested it in any version of Windows yet, either. Only gripe is that the color doesn't match all my other Linksys equipment. May try the USB100M with my PS2 soon.
4 Works with PS2
I bought 3 other usb adaptors and none of them worked with SOCOM and Tony Hawk 3. This one works great. Let me know if other games work with it.
5 PS2 should tap the Online Gaming industry
Online gaming has been a VERY popular venue for the PC gamers and PS2 should definitely seriously look into integrating more online games (Return to Castle Wolfenstein, Quake 3, Diablo 2, for example, is HUGE!) . I purchased this USB network adaptor for my PS2 for $... and its a big step towards online gaming (I have 3 PC's and my PS2 in a network, sharing cable connection). PS2 is coming out with its hardware version, but its going to be the same, and I'm sure its going to cost a lot more. As for compatibility issues with games, you're sending the same packets online and the adaptor is only a form of medium and it won't make a difference. Speed will probably be a factor because I think using the USB port means it might just be 10Mbps (that's 10Megs Per Second, that's faster than 56K!!) instead of 100Mbps if connected directly in the expansion port as Sony plans to. So I'm not worried about games having problems with the Linksys USB NIC adaptor at all. I'm still waiting for PS2 titles with online capabilities so I hope Sony would wake up and smell the money, otherwise XBOX will take the opportunity.
6 Needed a powered Hub to make it work on a Vaio Laptop
I needed a powered Hub to make this USB product work on a Sony Vaio Laptop. I was connected via a long 50-100 foot ethernet cable to my Linksys Router, and there evidently was not enough signal to drive it. I simply added a powered hub, into which I connected the laptop, and then it all worked. This USB-adapter is still a better soultion than using the one PC Card slot which was needed by my CD-ROM drive. When installing, I initially failed to insert the included floppy disk with the WINXP driver, and I had to re-install and remove the device a number of times before it worked.
7 Thank you Neversoft
While all other PS2 game makers have taken internet play out of their games until Sony comes out with their network adapter, Neversoft has decided to keep online play in Tony Hawk 3, and this usb network adapter supports it! Thank you Neversoft!
8 Whoa!
I havent got this product yet, But according to Neversoft.com this adapter will be able to hook up to your PS2 and then you can hook up a cable modem to it! All to play THPS3 (Tony Hawk Pro Skater 3) Online! But I am not sure if it will work with any other game :)
9 Great Adaptor
I recently bought a Linksys cable/DSL router (BEFSR41). To connect the Win98 laptop to it, I figured the easiest way to do it was to get a USB adaptor --with the advantage of not having to reboot the laptop to connect. I first bought a Netgear USB adaptor, it being cheaper and comes with a ethenet CAT5 cable. Big mistake. It will not work. I returned it and get this USB adaptor. It worked so flawlessly I was amazed. I guess the moral of my story was that I should stick to ONE brand of networking devices...save a lot of grief.
I'd have given this a 5-star if an ethernet cable were to be included. I had to drive all the way to the store because I forgot to buy a cable as it does not come with it.
10 Linksys support totally stinks!
I have a Linksys Homelink network system that has now been unusable for months. When I upgraded to Windows ME, the only problem I had was with the Linksys card. Neither phone support or email support has been able to fix the problem. Email support rarely returns any messages, and if they do, all they say is they are working on the problem. I have four computers and a laptop and all were working decently on the network before upgrading to ME - not good, just decently - but what is so discouraging is the lack of support. I will NEVER buy another Linksys product!
11 Wow its cool
Wow. It's so coool. Doesn't work with windows, linux or macintosh though. But It keeps the papers from flying off my desk! and if I had two of them, I could keep my books standing up.... I recomend buying two.
12 If you can go another way, you should.
OK, my company has three Gateway Astros, and they have ONLY USB connectivity. I had not choice but to purchase these. First, I have noticed that most USB NIC's only support 10Mbps connections, which was a problem for our network infrastructure. The other problem was that most of them were not Windows 2000 compatabile (no, the 3com is not compatible). This one is 10/100 and is Windows 2000 compatible. However, they are not ideal. The USB bus only support 16Mbps output, so you are limited to this even on a 100Mbps connection, which is why I am tell you. If you can go another way, you should. The do work well though, I recomend them.
13 Mighty Little Adapter
I bought one of these things for an underpowered internet appliance - With a Cyrix 200MHz MediaGX! :) I'm happy to report that it works very well, even on this snail. I'm able to go on the net, and transfer files back-and-forth to my other computer without a problem.
I've also used it to transfer big files between a friends computer and mine. Very handy!
14 Linksys USB 10/100
After a 3 minute installation,
This 10/100 USB Network Card has worked flawlessly connected to my Cable Modem. This network card doesn't require its own IRQ which solved a lot of my hardware conflicts. However since it doesn't have its own IRQ it can slow other USB devices connected to your machine. For example I have a Microsoft USB Mouse also connected. I notice a slight pause in mouse movement whenever I open the browser. It isn't enough to hinder my progress, and certainly a USB device such as a scanner or CD writer wouldn't be affected due to the fact that these devices typically aren't used at the same time as browsing the internet.
In conclusion this USB device has worked great and even solved many of my hardware conflicts as it doesn't require an IRQ. I recommend it.
15 Works great with Windows 2000
The product worked great right out of the box. You can plug it in after the computer is already booted up and it will give you a connection without rebooting. Performance is the same as the previous adapter. Saves an extra pcmcia slot on my laptop. I've only had it for a short time, but it has worked flawlessly. If you need a device of this nature I would definitely recommend it.
16 I've had nothing but trouble with mine
This adapter has caused nothing but trouble - and Linksys support is non-existent. We bought this and have been unable to get it working well on 4 different computers, (Vaio laptop, Toshiba laptop and 2 different e-machines). Although sometimes we were able to sustain a connection, the driver repeatedly disapeared and we could not boot with the adaptor connected. All the machines were running Windows 98. Linksys only response to repeated e-mails on the subject and one phone call was to tell us to download the driver again.
BUYER BEWARE -- this product is not worth the money.
