The Linksys Dual-Band Wireless A+G Access Point gives you universal wireless connectivity. It's the best way to add wireless capability to your existing wired network, or to add bandwidth to your wireless installation.
The Dual-Band Wireless A+G Access Point actually contains two separate wireless connectivity radio transceivers, which support all three popular wireless networking specifications.
The first transceiver uses the 2.4GHz radio band, supporting both the widely-used and inexpensive Wireless-B (802.11b) standard at 11Mbps, and the new, almost five times faster, Wireless-G (draft 802.11g) at 54Mbps.
The second radio operates in the 5GHz band, and supports Wireless-A (802.11a) networking, also at 54Mbps. Since the two radios operate in different bands, they can work simultaneously, blanketing your wireless zone with high-speed bandwidth.
To protect your data and privacy, the A+G Access Point can encrypt all wireless transmissions. The MAC Address filter lets you decide exactly who has access to your wireless network while Dynamic Frequency Selection (DFS) puts your network on the cleanest channel in your location. Configuration is a snap with the web browser-based configuration utility.
With the Linksys Dual-Band Wireless A+G Access Point, you'll have the best of all worlds -- Wireless-B for legacy compatibility, and both Wireless-G and Wireless-A for high-speed access.
- Dual-band, tri-standard Access Point communicates with Wireless-A (802.11a), Wireless-B (802.11b), and Wireless-G (draft 802.11g) wireless networks
- Protect your wireless investment while preparing your infrastructure for the future
- Advanced features: SNMP manageability, and Dynamic Frequency Selection (DFS)
- Powerful security: Up to 152-bit wireless data encryption (WEP), and wireless MAC address filter
1 Terrible Support
I contacted Linksys to determine the best product to purchase to improve signal coverage in home network. First tried extender and should have listened to others who rated it poorly on Amazon. It was worthless. Then purchased the WAP55AG at Linksys advice. I set up fine but could not get access to the internet once I connected to the WAP. Support basically just said it won't work with the WRT54G Router. This company is the worst. I would not purchase LINKSYS in the future.
2 Essential for a Network
The WAP55AG was so easy to setup. Compared to past Linksys access points, there was no need for software installation as XP can determine configuration automatically. My Dell laptop could instantaneously identify the proper frequency and establish a link. Recently, I bought a second unit for my office and my laptop automatically connects at home or at work without any hassle whatsoever.
3 An Excellent Way To Go Wireless!
The Linksys WAP55AG tri-mode access point is an excellent unit! Setup was a breeze! It was also very easy to configure all the security access settings. I found it to be pretty much plug-n-play. Configuration only took about 10 - 15 minutes. I have been using it with the Linksys WPC55AG notebook adapter and have had excellent connectivity.
I dealt with the Linksys tech support when trying to configure multiple routers for a small business setup and they went above and beyond the call to solve my problem. I would recommend any products made by Linksys and their parent company Cisco.

5 Not even worth 1 star....
It is 4AM and I have been up since 8 this morning taking a day off to get my home networl set up. I have spent hours on the phone with support and the bottom line is that this is a lemmon and it is very apparent that Linksys went to market with an un-tested product... The installation wizard CD does not work, there is not one substitute on line and you can not even downloaded it from their support site???? I only know 2 other frineds that have purchased linksys and they both had to return theirs... o for 3... How rediculous
6 Looks to be a lemon
I purchased this unit along with 3 WMP55AG PCI cards to integrate into my current home network. Moderate web browsing with this unit appears to be okay, however once a heavy network load it placed on the WAP55AG it stalls, locks up, and requires a power cycle. I'm using heavy loosely here. Downloads from Windows Update over a 1.5Mbps cable modem have caused this behavior. Copying a file a local wired server to a wireless client causes this behavior all the time.
I've been in contact with Linksys tech support for a few days now. So far none of their 'workarounds' have been successful.
I'll be posting my success and failures...
