Logitech's MouseMan Traveler makes a sleek and nimble companion, providing reliable optical mousing on the road or at your desk. It's light, easy to set up, and perfectly suited for use in either the right or left hand. The mouse is optimized for a USB connection, but a handy PS/2 adapter accommodates older computers, too.
Features
Besides being small and fast, the MouseMan Traveler simplifies Web browsing through Logitech's handy WebWheel. The WebWheel, like the mouse's left and right buttons, can serve any purpose you choose--you can easily assign functions such as click/select, auto scroll, double-click, etc. in the Mouse Properties window. When designated specifically as the default, however, the wheel not only scrolls up and down within a given browser window, but also performs standard browser functions like Reload, Back, and Stop, reducing your mousing time and, accordingly, your wrist strain.
Within your browser, simply press the wheel like a button to access the WebWheel menu, and all additional options appear in a small, circular field immediately beneath the cursor. You can even configure the menu to let you zip to your favorite sites without so much as having to move your cursor to your favorites list. WebWheel functionality requires Windows 95, 98, 2000, NT 4.0, Me, or XP for the PC and Mac OS 8.6 or later for Macintosh computers, as well as an Internet service provider (ISP) account.
Compatibility
If you're using a PC, make sure you have Windows 95, 98, 2000, NT 4.0, Me, or XP; an available USB or PS/2 port (Windows 98, 2000, Me, or XP is required for USB hookup); and a CD-ROM drive. Mac users need to be using Mac OS 8.6 or later, with both a USB port and a CD-ROM drive. --Michael Mikesell
Pros:
- Small
- Nice action
- WebWheel function is convenient and customizable
- Includes PS/2 adapter
Cons: - No user adjustments for scrolling (takes lots of turns to move down a page)
- Uncomfortable to use for long periods of time
It's the mouse designed for mobile professionals: compact, convenient, and comfortable. With a protective carrying case that fits neatly next to your notebook, the MouseMan Traveler goes where you go. And its optical sensor and elegant design lets you mouse just about anywhere.
1 nice mouse, beware the software
If you have a trackpad on your laptop, and you want to continue using it, do not install the software that comes with the mouse. It will override the trackpad and really screw up its functions. Simply plug the mouse in, and it should work fine.
2 For my desktop!
I've never understood why desktop mice need to be so large. Works good/looks good.
3 The perfect laptop companion
I love this little thing. A lot of travel mice are too small, or the wrong shape, or easily broken, but this mouse is just right. The buttons have just the right amount of give to them, the scroll wheel is firm but not too firm, and it tracks well whether I'm using it on a tabletop, on my pants leg, or even on my laptop's wrist rest. Plus, it comes with a sturdy carrying case, so I don't have to worry about it getting damaged in my laptop bag, and an extension cord, in case the three-foot cord on the mouse isn't long enough for whatever reason. It looks stylish, too!
4 Mouse Hunt
This MouseMan is a great little mouse for your laptop. It's attractive and small enough to use it below the keys. It also comes with a little bag so that storing it is easy and doesn't lead to knotted cables. The only problem that I've had with this mouse is the software it came with, hence the 4 stars. It doesn't allow for the full use of the mouse as I would like to use it (clicking down on the roll ball to take me backwards on websites). And downloading the software from the logitech site offers the same thing.
5 Best travel mouse ever
I got this mouse for my Apple Powerbook, and it's made mobile computing a lot more pleasant. It's very small but doesn't feel that way. I have great-big-boy hands, and this mouse feels perfectly substantial and comfortable to me.
The buttons are cleverly incorporated under a smooth and flexible metal casing, which makes for a very stylish look without sacrificing practicality (::cough cough:: the one-button Lucite Apple mouse ::cough cough::).
I can't imagine why anyone would ever use a ball mouse any longer, when optical mice like this one are so reliable and inexpensive.
6 The perfect laptop mouse
I really love the Traveler mouse. Yes, it's small, but I have very large hands and I've adapted to it quite easily. It tracks smoothly and the wheel has just the right amount of resistance. It even comes with a nice PVC travel case, perfect to slip into your laptop bag without scratching anything else up.
This is a great companion to a Powerbook, too, as it looks cool alongside! Now if Apple would just work on making the right button more useful in OSX...but I digress.
7 Compact and cool looking traveler's mouse
Ok, you are a cool-looking road warrior with your latest high-tech laptop running Windows XP. You hate the touchpad, though, so what do you do? The MouseMan Traveler is the answer. It's a small, lightweight mouse with a cool design. Unlike other mice with two obvious buttons, this one uses one piece of thin metal to cover the actual button touch points. Very easy to use. It's also comfortable to hold even for someone like me with big hands, but the "buttons" are slanted in such a way as to make clicking take some getting used to. It should have a "fuller" feel in the hand. But, unlike many notebook mice, it's both lefty and righty friendly.
It works beautifully right after you plug it into a Windows XP computer. For those on legacy systems, driver software on a mini-CD-ROM is included, as is a USB-to-PS/2 adapter. Also included is an extension cord, so you can use the mouse either in the short form, or in the long form. Very considerate of Logitech.
The mouse is about 2/3 the size of regular mice and feels solid and well built. It's a winner. I was attracted to it by Circuit City's rebate this week, which essentially gives me 50% off the regular price. But even at the regular price, this would have been a great value and a great companion to the many road trips.
8 Beautifully conceived mouse
I purchased this mouse to use with my IBM T22 Thinkpad. It's works well, and it looks great. It is small, and at first it was uncomfortable to use for long periods. I have gotten used to it; now the full-sized mouse that I use with by desktop feels huge. I have only given in 4 stars because the PS2 adapter does not fit snuggly. It often loosens, and I find myself regularly having to push it back in. If the mouse is not connected when I boot up, the scroll wheel does not work. The USB connection works well, but with only 1 USB port on my laptop, I would have preferred a better fitting PS2 connection. Otherwise, no problems.
9 Great tiny mouse... if your hand's small enough
I've been using this mouse for over a year now, hooked up to Apple PowerBook G4, which incidentally, complements each other's metallic surface well.
Pros:
- Very portable, ruggedly built.
- Stylish design with brushed metallic surface (highly resistant to finger prints).
- Ideal cord length (includes an extension cord as well).
- Comes with the carrying pouch.
- Smooth mousing experience -- smooth pointer movement, good tactile feedback on the buttons and scroll wheel.
Cons:
- Too small for all but small hands under extended usage.
- Only the surface is metallic. The rest is unimpressive boring black boxy plastic.
- Scroll wheel and the plastic layer underneath the metal surface attract dust.
- Non-retractable cord.
- Only 2 buttons and scroll wheel.
If you are looking for a mouse that will sit on your desk most of the time, this is NOT the mouse for you. Although it is one of the best portable mice out there, its small dimension (about the size of a PC Card) will challenge all but small hands after extended use. Get a desktop mouse if that's your intention.
That said, all portable mice are small and Logitech's MouseMan Traveler is among the very best. Its optical sensor, while not one of those super fast sensitive kinds, will track the pointer movement with grace and accuracy, never skipping the beat. Its two buttons, which are cleverly integrated as the surface body, offer very good tactile feedback, as does its scroll wheel, which offers good friction (not too smooth, not too hard).
My only real complaints is how easily the mouse collects dust. Because this is an optical mouse, the dust will not interfere with the operation. However, the area between metal surface (which doubles as two buttons) has some gap that attracts dust. You can use the paper napkin to clean, but be prepared to clean often. The scroll wheel collects dust even more easily, although this is all too common among scroll wheel-based mice.
I recommend this mouse highly for travelers.
10 Excellant
This is the best mouse I have ever had!!! It works on any surface without a mouse pad!!!
11 Mobile mousing
Excellent mouse for those who are always on the go. About the size of a PCMCIA card and is approx. 1 inch thick. It comes with a carrying case, PS2 addapter, and (this is very handy when use with a port repilcator or dock) a USB extention cord. A quality mobile mouse.
12 TERRIBLE..
They didn't give me mouse and never accept my request of refund!!
It have passed over 1 month since I ordered.
Terrible attitude!
DON'T BYU ANYTHING from him.
13 small and stylish
The mouse glides and clicks without drama (as it should be), and the scroll wheel is firm and responsive.
The mouse cord is thinner than usual and Logitech thoughtfully includes a pouch for neatly stowing the mouse away when not in use. no more tangled mouse cord in your laptop case!
All in all a top notch design. Perfect as an alternative to my iBook's stupid 1-button trackpad.
14 works beautifully
I considered two mice for my iBook: Kensington's PocketMouse Pro and Logitech's Mouseman Traveler.
The former's cord retracts into the mouse housing itself. It's a clever idea, but I have doubts about its reliablity down the road.
I chose Logitech's Mouseman Traveler, because it has a smaller footprint and comes with a pouch for neat storage so tangled mouse cord is not going to be a problem anyway. Highly recommended.
15 You really dont want to be without this gem
I just purchased a Dell laptop, The touchpad was so sensitive it drove me nuts. So I looked at this model because it seemed to have all the right specs.
It took all of 5 minutes to install the software and have the mouse up & running. It is small enough to work on the right or left side of your laptop. It is optical W/USB & a PS2 adapter. It has a 3' extension. The mouse is small but very ergonomic with a 2 button scroll. Works with all Windows including XP OS & Macs.
