2 Great Webcam Quality & Digital Camera for the Price
I bought my clicksmart recently for approx. 20.00 used incl/shipping. I figured hey, if the quality was bad then no sweat it was less than 20 bucks.
Imagine my surprise when I plugged it in and saw what great quality the webcam pictures were. I just took my first few digital camera pics using it the other day, in my living room with no light but that from the 2 windows and the pictures came out GREAT!!! I hightly recommend this camera!
PROS:
1. Great web picture quality (have to have lots of light on, but does the best job I've seen with low light so far)
2. Great Price
3. Multi-functional as Webcam or unplug and go Digital Camera
4. Sooo Easy to use!
5. Did a great job capturing my niece's 'puppet show' across the room and making a little mini-video.
6. EASY to USE software program with many easy and handy functions. LIKE MOTION DETECTION RECORD function.
CONS:
1. Logitech download installation software takes a long time if you don't have a CD or you're upgrading the software.
2. TERRIBLE LIVE BROADCAST function because the installed software program wants to hook you up to Spotlife, but that site has closed down and Logitech hasn't gotten a new online partner for live broadcasting, so you're on your own on that one. Plus you have to get software from the website you'll broadcast from, because your own software won't allow anything but that broadcast company that no longer is in business.
As I said this is a great little starter web cam and digital camera (what digital camera can you find for less than $30 ??) for the price. I hope you enjoy yours as much as I've enjoyed mine.
3 love it
this is a excellent webcam. i bought it used and have had no problem as far as lighting goes. highly recomended
4 grainier than quite a large beach
I bought this camera to replace a four-year-old webcam, which had finally died. To the best of my memory, the old one hadn't been particularly expensive either. When it was all plugged in, however, the quality of the pictures was so grainy that it prompted me to get a screwdriver out and fix the old one.
The old webcam rides again, and logitech will be getting this one back.
5 For what I expected, it's fine.
I expected a decent webcam with quality and I got it. It might be a bit too expensive for what it is, but being that I have gone through millions of webcams with my website [lovelyweapon.com, my webcam shows its quality], I'm rather picky about them and this one is fine. The quality is excellent during the day, and with proper lighting at night it works even better [remember guys, no camera works without proper lighting].
It's not the beeest, but it's what I expected and I'm doing perfectly fine with it. If you don't like it you can always return it.
6 This camera
I had a friend help me buy this camera and I kind of liked it but it really doesn't show anything in the dark, even at home sometimes. When you bring it outside, the maximum amount of pictures is 40, which isnt alot so sometimes it's just fun to play with and take pictures to send to friends. And, the resolution isn't that good. But it's still fun so YEa.....
7 At Your Own Risk
Well, I bought this camera awhile back. The picture quality didn't bother me much because I wasn't expecting much out of it. The problem I had with it was that after a couple weeks the memory stopped working right. It would erase all the pictures i had stored if I didn't keep it from auto-shutting off. Then about a month into it, it stopped working totally.
8 very bad quality
Hi friends,
i purchased this camera from amazon about a month ago. i was planning to use it as webcam, but the picture quality is terrible. initially i thought that it must be a problem of some settings....but after struggling for more then 2 weeks its now lying in my junk box.
refrain from buying it.

9 Poor Quality, Driver Problems
Pictures are grainy and of poor quality for the specifications. I also get a lot of flicker while in Webcam mode. Useless to take outdoor pictures. My phone takes much better pictures. To top it all off, Windows XP fails to locate the USB device though sometimes I can get it to work by reinstalling drivers.
10 Remember Mac users!
When you can, select dual platform accessories. There are still a lot of us Mac people out here!
11 Terrible.
Let me put it this way, if you got it for your kids, they will love it as a fist digital camera, however, don't buy it for adults, the quality is so bad in comparison to regular 35mm cameras, you'd be very disappointed.
12 Camera just stopped working
The camera used to work great. I could unplug it from the computer, take it out and snap some pix, and plug it back in. The computer would detect the camera and download the pix like it's supposed to. Howver when I tried to do that today, it didn't detect the cam at all.
When I looked in the Hardware Profiles, it showed the camera as an unknown USB device instead of what it really is. It was no longer listed under vid capt devices either. I uninstalled/reinstalled the software so many times it's not even funny.
I applied USB patches from Microsoft and Via, but those did no good. Now I'm not sure if there was something wrong with the camera or with my computer's USB ports. This camera was the only USB device I had so now I have no way of knowing.
However this machine doesn't take great pix or have good image quality in the first place, so I can slam it if I want to.
13 Best if used outdoors
use this outdoors and get OK pictures. don't use it indoors. i have a hospital-like light in the living room and still, the pictures indoors turned out horribly dark and grainy. hospital lights are bright.. so think about that when you're fixin to purchase one. i regret buying mine, do not buy this product and expect wonderful pictures. INTEL cameras are best if you're looking for cheap ones =) (both the pocket pc and the digital pocket pc. i have both and i love them.)
14 Poor choice for a camera
I used this for two months and once I tried using it is 15 degree weather it stopped working. The pictures are grainy and you can't look at them. This is a good starter, but it is better to pony up for more dough and buy a decent camera with a zoom on it.
15 cute little web cam with just above avarage quality
I like this web cam (and a digital cam) because it was what I needed. Nothing too [spendy] and complicated. I didnt need the greatest picture quality. Just something that would help me to video chat with my friends over the internet and send them some digital pictures. First of all to use this camera you need alot of light..You wont be able to use it in dark..Your face and where the camera stands must be lighted really good. If you do that quality is really nice for it. However sometimes it can be frustrating if you dont have a portable lamp or a portable computer. Otherwise it is really good. It is good for you if your reasons are same with me and if you have pretty good lighting. Digital cam is ok. You can unplug the web cam and use it as camera but light thing has to be the same here. Don't expect digital camera quality. It is easy to use and quick but quality is avarage.
16 Bad Idea
Performance in indoor lights is pathetic. Not recommended.
17 Cheesy Camera
I bought this several weeks ago, took it out of the box, and straightaway I noticed that it had a manufacturer's defect, so I sent it back, and requested a replacement. Amazon.com sent one out to me right away, which was great, but with a note attached that they had received too many complaints about this product. Camera Limits are (to be brief): no LED View Screen, no flash capability, looks and feels like a disposable "[money] job" I really can't recommend this particular model and it is too bad, because it was a great idea!.. Positives: easy to use, I like the stand it sits on, but that's about it. "Caveat Emptor". The best thing about this whole experience: Amazon.com!! They were really cool in my opinion to send me a note about this product, advising me about all the other customer complaints. Good Job Amazon!
18 Would of given half star if possible...
Web cam feature bites, picture is all dark, even if you have all lights on and windows open. As far as the camera, you better have a VERRY well light area that you are taking the picture in. Would not reccomed this to anyone. I've bought from Logitech before with no problems, but this one was a big dissapointment.
19 Horrible quality - Not worth the money
There is nothing positive I can say about this camera. The pictures are dark and blurry. The software is cheapy and horrible. When used as a webcam the quality is garbage. My advise to other shoppers out there: Spend a few bucks more and buy some other model.
20 What a piece of ...!
DO NOT get this camera if you are looking for a webcam. OH GOD! This is the LOWEST quality picture I've EVER SEEN on a webcam (and I've owned 5 in 3 years). In fact, don't get this camera if you want to take pictures any where but outside in daylight. And even then, the images are extremely blurry.
Two thumbs DOWN!
21 ok but could be better
its ok but u need a microphone to make a movie because if u don't have a microphone then there's no sound. also the graphics could be better because sometimes they get a little fuzzy but overall, its a pretty good web camera. I don't use mine portabley because its a lot easier just as a web camera. p.s. dont leave the camera on for a long time because sometimes it tends to overheat a little bit. but if u want a real digital cam i recommend either the sony DSC-P7 cybershot 3.2 megapixel or the canon S230 powershot 3.2 megapixel.
22 Logitech Cute!
A trustworthy brand, I am not uncomfortable when it comes to purchasing items connected to the computer world as soon as I see it's a Logitech item. It has proven itself to be time and time again a more trustworthy company that provides really good items!
The camera is solidly built (dropped it a few times for good measure!) and with it's cute unique little design and small enough to carry everywhere, it's more a danger of being stolen! I like the long cable that comes with it, enables for more flexibility when it happens that I want to shift my webcam somewhere where my fiance can watch me move around the room. Great for outdoor use under adequate lighting! The only few things about the features that I didn't like were the inability to display the pictures taken within the digital screen at the back. I also wished there could have been just a simple flash that could be used to brighten pictures. For the price, I would say this is a good deal for those who just want ONE item that can do EVERYTHING from be a pretty solid webcam to an outdoor tote digital camera. Well, maybe not clean your bathrooms for you, but with Logitech, anything's possible.
23 It's Okay just for FUN ^_^
At first I was having a hard time installing the software that Logitech provided. Turns out that the cd is out-of-date (my OS is Windows XP Prof.). So if you're having troubles with the webcam actually showing up on the monitor (mine was pitched black >_<) I recommend downloading their latest software from their site! ^_~
You need good lighting! Taking webcam pictures while the sun is up is highly recommended. Make sure your blinds/drapes are open in your computer room. Pictures taken when it's dark outside and using your ceiling's light may not look great compared to the ones taken in the day (at least from my experience). It looks more 'pixelly' during the night compared to the day.
I find taking pictures on a somewhat cloudy day is the best results! If it's too sunny the face looks too contrasted and makes your face (especially the nose) pale and blurred out. Of course, you can edit the setting but for the usage as a 'digital camera' you won't be able to tell the lighting quality.
The webcam pictures aren't exactly great. They say you can take pictures with a resolution of 640x480 but the quality isn't that great at all (2/5). Lots of pixels and your face is really blurry even if you freeze and hold your pose for those 3 seconds to *click* =P. Personally, I only use the lowest resolution 160x120, because it takes the best quality out of the three resolution options.
If you're thinking of using this as a digital camera *snicker* I wouldn't recommend you buying a Logitech's digital + web camera. =P This model does NOT have the LCD preview in the back so you don't know what you're taking with a *very* steady hand. Even with a steady hand the pictures end up blurry!
If I could return this back I would and pay the difference for the ClickSmart 510 webcam because that one contains a flash so the pictures will at least turn out with some good lighting. For this model, you really have to check your lighting and make sure you freeze as long as possible! lol.
I guess the only pros. about this webcam is that it's small, light, and cool-looking! ^_^;; However, this may be a con for someone with large hands as it may not be as comfortable as an actual decent digital camera! =P I love the stand because it's easier to slip in and out BUT it's also easy to knock-over. I've knocked this webcam out at least 3-4 times onto the floor, and it still works. Though, the "digital camera" memory function does not work that well, but since I do not use as an actual digicam, it's not a big deal. This is a great webcam if you have great lighting and the design is *cool*.
It's great for playing around kids, tweens, and teens. But for adults umm why not get an actual webcam and a decent digital camera? Don't cut corners because even though you are saving quite a lot of money, the quality of the pictures are what you pay for. Best of luck in making the decision for buying a webcam/digicam. ^_^
24 nice little camera
I have to say, this camera is very easy to use, i had it set up in no time. The picture quality leaves some room for improvement. You have to be very still and make sure you have just the right lighting to take a picture. Othewise you get a blurry picture. For the money its a good deal, but if your looking for high quality you might consider another route.
25 This camera works really great, I am absolutely satisfied.
I bought this one online a few days ago, I like absolutely the way it works in taking still picture and video.
It's so easy to set up and run on my computer,it took me just 2 minutes to take a test drive in my room.
It controled automatically exposure, focusing on a subject in
low light and gave me good quality pictures.
Before ordering the item, I took a careful look at the other
people's reviews, they helped me a lot in choosing an expensive,
excellent stuff like this one, now I feel I have made a good decision this time. Finally, here is some feedbags I would like to give you: If you are looking for an affordable web camera with good function, try this one first, after you tried it, you'll love it, a great motion picture maker.
26 Get what you pay for.
Like the other said, don't buy this as a replacement for a digital camera. It works great as a webcam though. I wanted a camera comparable to the Intel Pocket PC, and this is the closest one I could find for much cheaper. The image quality still isn't as good as the PocketPC cam but you get what you pay for. I'm satisfied with my purchase.
27 great web cam but needs a flash
This has turned out to be a better webcam than I expected. It does a wonderful job for everything I needed in a webcam. Great pictures when instant messaging and sending images in emails. The software also has a motion detector which snaps shots of any movement around your computer (with audible warnings if you want eg. dog's barking). This feature can be fun or useful if stuff is missing from your desk! As a camera it falls a little short. If it had a built in flash it would work much better! It doesn't take pictures in low light, but in bright light or full daylight it does well. I reccomend it for the money I don't think you could get much better!!
28 quality stinks
It works.... if you dont want them to see you on the other end of the cam then its great.
29 Amazing product!!!!!!!!!
i think this camera is really good looking and the quality is also extreamly good!!!!
30 A disgrace to the Logitech brand name
Logitech has been excellent in coming out with innovative products. I feel their keyboards and mice, combined with their cordless technology, is simply second to none.
With their success, they've ventured into coming out with new products, such as speakers, headsets and unfortunately, digital cameras.
As you can tell from the title of my review, I am extremely disappointed with this camera. I actually bought TWO! And I really want to just chuck them out now.
The webcam quality is so grainy and dark (it needs a lot of light to give just marginal picture quality). I've used 3 different webcams in the past, but this by far is the worst. It doesn't even let you manually focus the lens, and the picture really looks out of focus.
For those hoping to get a decent webcam, I'd recommend the old (but fantastic) IBM PC Camera Pro.... Not many webcam these days can boast 640x480 CCD (not CMOS).
In camera mode, the ClickSmart's resolution drops automatically to half it's webcam size. Needless to say, if in webcam mode, the quality was already bad, you can forget about photo and video clip modes.
I would say the only people who would be able to have some fun with this camera would be kids, under the age of 10.
Also, if you are using this as a camera or video, make sure you download them quickly into the pc. The slightest knock on the camera would momentarily break the contacts of the batteries causing the camera to lose all its internally stored pictures/videos.
Even though I bought this camera at a [good price], I still think it's not worth my trouble at all....
31 Kids Love the Logitech 310
1. The Logitech 310 came as a freebie when I puchased a Linksys router.
2. The software is very easy to set up and use, and my kids have played with it a lot. Stop action animation, make-believe evening news, etc.
3. We have other digital cameras (Nikon, Intel) but this one is by far the easiest to use, with good software.
4. Thank you!
32 good thing it was free ...
...the 30 second power saving feature wasn't too bad. the main two problems i had was the fact that there is no flash ... and that the accompanying software does not work right. the software for the camera was made so that when you plug the camera into the usb port, it automatically loads the program and uploads the pictures. this is, i might add, the ONLY way to upload the pictures from the camera. well, about a week after getting the camera installed, the auto load feature stopped working. i uninstalled it and reinstalled it, but (again) after a week or so, it stopped working...
33 Key word value
First off this in no replacement for a REAL digital camera period. Great replacement however for an old web cam. What this camera does well is simple photos and web cam. This little guy is so easy to use. The draw back photo wise is it doesnt deal with lighting conditions very well and you need to be right up on your subject in order not have them appear "a million miles away" Overall with its webcam functions and mobility this is a good value none the less.
34 Good but very basic
The camera is small, which makes it convenient to grab quick snapshots; it holds a lot of pictures; and the plug-in-and-download feature is nice. However, there's no preview window, and the image quality is disappointing. It's pretty average as a webcam. Also, installing the software on my Win98 box slowed the computer down significantly, though this was not a problem on WinXP. Overall, if you're looking for a basic starter camera or a webcam, this is a decent choice, but don't expect much.
35 The disappearing rebate...
Well, before even using the product, I'm pretty upset at the disappearing rebate... It was valid until late December, but the file has suddenly disappeared from the RebatesHQ website. Pretty deceptive; hard to rate well an item that didn't cost what you thought it did. Think I will be returning this -- unless someone happens to have a copy of the rebate form saved?
36 Simple but fun
Here's a simple, inexpensive digital camera that you can carry all day and take low-res pictures and capture brief low-res videos. You don't have to worry about breaking anything. This Chinese-manufactured cute little thing is all plastic but quite solid. It also works very well as a webcam -- no surprise since Logitech has been building these for a long time.
Would have been better if the battery life were a bit better and the resolution a bit higher. But then again, at this price, this is a no-brainer toy to own.
37 Simple and Easy
Easy to use, nice size, takes good pictures, software fine. Nice value for the money.
38 Good image quality , nice replacement for webcam
A nice webcam with additional ability to take pictures too. Nothing to complain about. It has nice webcam features, good software driver support for my win2k, worked out of box and provided good image quality on my yahoo messenger. The accompanied software was better than average. (to capture video and pictures)
Cons, the camera stand could have been better. Not very convenient to change position.
39 A nice little widget if the price is right
I purchased this camera from Amazon with the linksys router bundle. Coupled with a $10 Amazon[.com] coupon,$10 Rebate on the router, and a $20 rebate on this camera this was an unbeatable deal for $20. My family in India can now see me as I type in front of my PC everyday. The video quality is horrible and so is the picture quality when taking still shots but it definitely serves its purpose for the price I payed :D.
I had a little trouble installing this on my WindowsXP machine. Keep in mind that you have to install the drivers before you plug in ANY USB device on Windows.
40 Fantastic, easy-to-use product
This is a product that defines value-for-money. The software is easy to setup and the device is easy to use with USB plug-and-play, I was up and running in about 10 minutes (I had to reboot the PC though after installing the drivers). The device serves as a good web cam and as a good, cheap digital camera for party pictures. I'd recommend it to anyone (plus Best Buy is selling this with a $20 mail-in rebate, making it a good buy).
41 Play digital camera or decent web cam
This camera is about as simple as they get. I gave this camera to my daughter who is 9 and she loves it. She has it hooked up to her E-machines Celeron Win Xp system and uses it as a web cam for yahoo IM. As a webcam it gives good images and works well (better than quickcam express USB). As a digital camera it can take 40 352 x 144 pixel photos or 160 176 x 144 pixel photos. It can also take 15 seconds of video. It runs on 4 AAA batteries as a digital camera or off the USB power as a webcam. The digital camera even has a timer and a multisnap mode that will snap off 5 shots at one second intervals. It provides a counter for the photos and battery status indicator. I would suggest going to Logitech's web site and downloading the most up to date software and installing it rather than starting with the supplied CD. Mine had ver 5.6.3 supplied but version 7 is out now. With the supplied software you can even set up the webcam to be a motion sensor camera and take shots when it senses movement. Overall it is a good cheap webcam with the option to remove it from its cradle and take some low quality snapshots. If purchased on sale with rebate it should be a good deal.
42 Just the Thing for Kids
I got this for my son for his ninth birthday....
Anyway, as a kids camera it is wonderful. Kids love to take pictures but you can't afford to keep them in film and processing for what they want. If you buy them a film camera it feels like you are forever fighting them: "No honey, no one will want to see a picture of our mailbox." You are too worried about wasting film and processing.
With this approach you can turn them loose and you don't have to worry about anything. If they do take a picture they want to share, they can email it, and that's superior to what they can do with a film camera anyway.
I gave my son this as a point and shoot camera and purchased rechargeable batteries for him. He can click away to his heart's content and it doesn't cost me a thing.
The pictures upload easily to the PC where he can view them. It's also easy to email them to anyone.
It even takes small video clips you can email to others.
It also comes with some neat software. If you hook it to your PC it supports time lapse photography -- you know the pictures spread over hours or days that show you plants growing. Or if you want to produce your own claymation epic, there is a neat stop action photography option.
Here is the fine print on this camera. As a digital camera, it only records 320 x 240. It has no flash and its fixed focus.
Truthfully, the quality is not very good. Unless you hold it still (tough for him) it's easy to get blurry pics. Even when pics are clear they are at best web quality it's not anything you would want to make prints from. So this is definitely NOT adult quality. However, for kids the goal is to get a recognizable picture, not a piece of art. As a cheap way to let him take lots of pictures it is wonderful.
In summary, this is NOT a digital camera for adults, but for kids it's much better than any film camera you can buy.
43 A Good Webcam
I just recieved this product in the mail last week and started testing it out. The camera is very affordable in comparison to pretty much any other digital camera out there and it has more than one function, which is a very nice feature. I will review the two main features of the camera:
Webcam: Here is the camera's strong point. As a webcam, this camera works very well and seems to really hit the target for all of your webcam needs. It has a simple to use interface and does the job.
Digital camera: Here is the camera's weak point. The resolution on the digital pictures is not good at all. Very low quality, and if you try and take pictures in low light, you might as well not even bother. The camera has no flash so that is a low point as well.
Some other tidbits about the camera: The software that the camera comes with is very childish and unprofessional looking. Now, I'm not saying that you shouldn't buy the camera because of this, but it's something to think about. Also, the camera turns itself off after 30 seconds of being "on" This feature saves battery power but can be EXTREMELY annoying in certain situations. (Like if you are trying to line up a picture or something just right, then boom! the camera turns off)
If you're in the market for a webcam and that's your main motivation to buy this product then I recomend it, However, if you're buying this product mainly for it's digital camera function I suggest you look elsewhere. A good webcam with a bonus feature of being able to take low resolution dig. pictures. That's the jist of it.
44 Beats all by comparison alone
I thought that this was a very inovative, high quality, and superb product to use for those who want an affordable digital camera--which is somewhat difficult to find--and also a camera in which serves more that one purpose. In this I am refering to the mpeg file format which the camera actually supports, rather than just still frame images. I recomend this product to anyone.
45 Good Buy
This isn't a replacement for a real digital camera. It only has a small amount of built-in memory, has no screen to view your pictures on and only takes them at a very low resolution. However, it is worth while for quick snapshots for friends and family. In good lighting conditions, the camera gives surprisingly high quality pictures, given the caveats above, but suffers quite a bit in low light.
As a webcam it works fine, but again low lighting hurts the picture, even with the lighting boost turned on. Installation is as easy as it possibly could be and if all goes well (which it did for me) you should be using it within about five minutes. Pictures you take away from the PC are downloaded very quickly via the USB connection and getting them from the camera to the PC is simply a matter of plugging in and clicking one button.
It's a worthy buy and I'm very happy with mine, but don't expect miracles.
