1 Works great, but big annoyances
I've been using this keyboard and mouse for 6 months now. Technically they work quite well (per other reviews).
However, the annoyances leave me unimpressed:
1. The thumb button on the mouse is way too low. It is so uncomfortable to use that I rarely do use it - even though I programmed it for the same double-click I use constantly at work on MS hardware.
2. The right shift key is half the size of my MS Natural keyboards - for no apparent reason. I'm constantly missing it.
3. In general, I feel I'm working much harder on the Logitech keyboard. I type very quickly, and I find my hands get tired and fingertips irritated. I certainly have to hit the backspace a lot more frequently (meaning I'm mistyping) compared to the MS Natural keyboards.
Bottom line for me: I will continue to use this keyboard and mouse, but I would not buy them again.
2 MY FIRST CORDLESS MOUSE & KEYBOARD
I WILL NEVER GO BACK TO THE CORDED KIND AS LONG AS THEY SEEL CORDLESS.ONLY DRAW BACK IS THE MOUSE EATS BATTERIES LIKE CRAZY.IVE NEVER REPLACED THE BATTERIES IN THE KEYBOARD.
3 Nice and smooth
I'd like to submit, simply, that I'm very pleased with this combination. I've read these reviews, and it seems to me that the whiners are nitpicking. The mouse is *better* than my "wired" mouse: more responsive, smoother. I'll hang in and find out about battery life, but it's so smooth and nice, I'm not too trepidatious about keeping this thing in batteries. It's so nice to finally be able to sit back and type! Take care, techies!
4 shoddy construction
The mouse buttons are not buttons at all but long thin plastic strips. I didn't think much of it until my mouse buttons started sticking or not working at all. A $5 mouse works better than this super expensive one. Earlier, I also found out this mouse will not work with black mousepads, even brand new mousepads. The mouse cursor stuttered and stopped while using it. You have to get a mousepad with textured colors. And when I first bought this thing the first thing I noticed was how heavy it is. It took a good while to get used to it, and once you are, going back to a regular mouse feels weird.
5 Great
I like the layout of the keyboard. I can't type on regular keyboards anymore. I've had the cordless freedom pro for over 3 years, and bought this one to match my new system. I am a little disappointed about the optical mouse, it is not as precise as the wheel mouse, but thats not a big deal. The keyboard is still awesome. That was my main concern.
6 Nice keyboard, bad mouse
The keyboard is very nice, but if you type really really fast you will experience a very slight delay when you watch the screen.
I dual boot windows 2000 and SuSE Linux 9.1, the keyboard and mouse work in both systems. There are some concerns regarding security, since everything you type is broadcast to the world (although I am certain the range is quite limited). On the other hand, some wired keyboards can be monitored by analysing the sound they make when you type. Do your computing in a soundproof bunker with a Faraday cage if you're worried "they" may be watching you.
Even within ten centimeters of the receiver, the cordless mouse performs with about as much precision as a brainsurgeon with cerebral palsy. I also own the logitech MX500 and this cordless thing doesn't even come close to it's accuracy.
Great keyboard, bad mouse. Hence 3 stars out of 5.
7 Awesome Combo
Amazing! the best Logitech mouse ever- it glides so smoothly. The keyboard is great also, the keys don't require effort. Setup was a breeze, literally plug and play (though needed to install Logitech software to utilize the keyboard hot keys). The wireless is wonderful, and batteries are included! The keyboard also has a detachable wrist rest to suit your preference. The LEDs corresponding to Caps/Num/Scroll Lock are on the receiver to conserve batteries.
8 owesome product!!!
I highly recomemd this product. As fare as I'm concern is best deal for the money.
9 No flaws comfort. What these devices SHOULD be.
I'd been wanting to get an ergonomic keyboard for some time, as I type an awful lot and I thought I'd give it a try. I found this Logitech combo (Logitech's a name I've used and found dependable) that was cordless to boot, and perfectly competitive price-wise with wired devices from other makers. I couldn't be happier. I can't believe I waited so long to go ergo, and to go cordless for that matter (well, cordless headphones still suck). This combo has worked flawlessly for me. The software is just perfect, letting me adapt all buttons on mouse and keyboard to my needs--on a Mac no less, the last, and only, bastion of one-button mouse design. I tested the keyboard to see how well I could send commands from a distance. I was amazed to find that not only did it work wihout a hitch at 6 feet or more, but also even facing in the opposite direction against a wall. I think these products prove beyond a doubt that cordless input devices have finally made it--prove to me at least for sure. Highly recommended.
10 Great product, software needs updating
I ordered this keyboard to replace my Adesso, which became obsolete when I bought my new G5; and it is indeed terrific: however, the software that comes with it was terrible; I thought I was going to have to send it back, because the characters were all wrong, until I thought to go to the Logitech website and download a new driver. That one worked, and my keyboard and mouse both are great, atlhough without the wonderful ergonomic touch of the Adesso. Thanks to all those who gave this product reviews, it really helped me make the decision.
11 Wow
This is easily the best keyboard I've ever owned, and the mouse is right up there too. I've long wanted a wireless keyboard and mouse combo, but I've always wanted the ergonomic layout and they just haven't been common. I've also been a bit concerned about radio broadcasting my keystrokes, but it turns out (or Logitech claims at least) that the keyboard signal is encrypted (they don't say how). I've had this combo for nearly a month now, no battery changing necessary, and I knew within two days that this is going to be my favorite keyboard for years to come. FANTASTIC.
12 Truly a comfort
Though the placement of the keys takes a little getting used to, the few days of mis-typing are a small price to pay for the decrease in discomfort for those who spend long hours on the keyboard. Battery life has been great (using Mac OSX)- I work with it several hours a day and haven't had to change them since I got the set in August 2003. I had no trouble with the raiser legs, and later found it a more comfortable postition with them folded in. The keyboard is light and easily moved when I need desk space. My biggest disappointment is the lack of Caps Lock indicator. I also would prefer to have the keyboard bundled with a TrackMan. For those reasons I can only give it 3 stars.
13 HUGE Advantage on Mac OSX 10.3+ (Panther Roars!)
Logitech does it again! I've been a huge fan of Logitech for years, since the Mouse was PC device (almost). I recently converted to Mac for my home systems and switching to the Mac awkward keyboard was difficult at best since I've been using the Logitech "Comfort" style keyboards for years. Not only was it difficult to use, I experienced issues that have been irritating me on a regular basis with random key repeats on certain keys that no matter what I did, nothing would solve my problem.
I just bought the new Logitech Comfort Duo package and installed it on my Mac. WOW! What a difference!! Not only do I have my usual comfortable keyboard format but my repeating key problem is gone and I have more control over my mouse. Very impressed!!! THANK YOU LOGITECH!
The only thing that would make this better would be to outfit this package in a BlueTooth Version!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HINT HINT HINT!! WINK WINK!!
14 Great for Mac OS X; heavenly device!
.
I was wary of this package after reading the bad reviews by recent customers here, especially the comments about the awkward key layout. I went ahead because I use a keyboard 8 hours a day or more, practically every day of my life, and I want comfort, wirelessness, and the kind of functionality Mac users usually demand.
The page-up/down keys are unusually placed, but anyone who spends time with the board will get muscular memory going in a short time. I hit those keys without looking any time I choose. It took a day to master without misses.
This keyboard is better than any other I have ever used - full sized, compact, corded or cordless, adb or USB, - I've used them all. This one has the wrap-around key layout that keeps my wrists straight, and a wrist rest that absolutely prevents forearm fatigue I usually get after an hour or so of keyboarding. The key action is wonderful, providing the resilient resistance that makes touch-typing easy and error-less.
The mouse was a wash; it's in the trash, but I didn't buy a mouse; I bought a keyboard. I still use my Kensington wireless, which has superior tracking and accelleration. It's been over a month on the original batteries that came with with the keyboard, two AA's, which makes it dirt cheap to keep in power. Battery consumption is low. The board is a little narrower than some other ergonomic boards, which means it will fit on my lap regardless of which chair I use, wide or narrow.
All in all, this is one of the better purchases I've ever made, and I recommend this keyboard to anyone with high expectations for computer hardware. This is a professional level board, possibly the best there is.
15 great keyboard, pretty expensive though
I find this combo very comfortable (as the name implies) all in all it's a nice keyboard I really believe comfort is of outmost importance, so after 10-20 years you can still move you're wrists :) ... instead of one night of party you should really get you're ergonomics right.
What I don't like:
- Changing batteries: this isn't THAT much of an issue but I would definitely recommend rechargeable batteries (not only for you're pocket but also to preserve our ecosystem) which implies additional cost.
- Cost: i feel the price is a little high, a generic keyboard and mouse (which generally work very well) will usually cost about $4-$10 of course they're not ergonomic or cordless, but still it's almost 10 times more, especially with the batteries.
16 Excellent keyboard - Wish it came with the trackman
I'm buying my 3rd Logitech Cordless Duo Pro/Comfort Duo, not because they wear out, because once you get used to it you'll refuse to switch back. I have one for home and one for work (had to buy my own...the cheapskates, now I'm buying one for my mother's computer for when I'm working on it. My only wish was that it came with the Cordless Trackman. I have to buy it separately but it works off the same receiver or you could use it in addition to the mouse.
I'd like to address some of the other comments:
Yes, the keyboard feet do collapse but I just whittled and glued some feet on it to my personal angle.
So they changed the "standard" layout of the keyboard buttons, once you get used to it all the other keyboards are "wrong." It's just a matter of what you're familiar with.
17 It's okay, but...
...there are some big probs. I really like the cordless feature. Yet after using the keyboard and mouse for several months, I just can't get accustomed to the problems. I've given up and switched back to my old MS Natural.
Problems...
1. As mentioned elsewhere, the home-end-page up-page down layout is VERY awkward.
2. The layout of the remaining buttons is also very weird. I still find myself hitting buttons that I don't mean to hit.
3. MOST IMPORTANT ISSUE: The mouse is a major battery drain. I use my computer heavily and have had to change the batteries (2xAA) every 3-4 weeks. It appears the mouse doesn't have a true "stand-by" mode: the optical scanner seemed to be blinking all the time, even when I hadn't been using the mouse for several hours.
If it weren't for the battery-drain problem, I think I would have tried to stick it out, because I really do like the cordless feature. And I really like the keyboard's solid feel. But I'm tired of having to replace the batteries, and I still haven't gotten used to the home-end button layout. I don't recommend this keyboard, but if you're willing to shell out for batteries maybe you'll like it.
18 Noobs keyboard
Besides the akward key placemnets that other reviews pointed out I would add that the existing encryption for the keyboard is 64 bit. This static 64 bit key can be broken in minutes. There is even security advisory about this. Once key is broken everybody can see what you are typing in.
At the bottom of the keyboard there are butterfly flaps that let you raise the keyboard. These flaps open to the right and left ( / \ ). This one is no brainer. Everytime you move keyboard left or right one of these flaps closes and the keyboard colapses(yes, there is no way to lock the flaps).
- No cap clock indicator on the keyboard.
I did get it working in Unix (just for fun) with USB and PS2. However there is NO encryption support for Unix so I'm not sure why would you want to use it.
I would NOT recomend that you get this keyboard. Its basic hardware design flaws, odd keyboard layout, and lack of security deserves only one star.
19 i just wish...
the space bar on my unit is very unresponsive. normally the keys are fairly stiff and spring back up within reasonable times, but the space bar on this keyboard just isnt springy enough. not enough to warrant a complete return, just wish it'd feel nicer.
hopefully no more problems arise.
edit: (February 1, 2004) after using the keyboard and mouse for quite a while now, i only have a couple of complaints. the keyboard is fine. the mouse, however, drains my batteries like nothing i have ever seen. as another user pointed out, battery life lasts for usually 3-4 weeks. i have needed to replace the batteries twice in one month on occasion.
also, i find that fullscreen games periodically minimize, forcing me to restore the window. i suspect this is a problem due to these devices, as i have not had the problem prior.
you may opt for one of microsoft's basic wireless optical mice, which promise up to six months battery life. i, on the other hand, have decided to purchase the more expensive mx700, which comes with a recharge base. ideally, there will be no conflicts between the two receivers-but who said the world was ideal?
4.5 stars for keyboard
2.5 stars for mouse.
20 nice but not very functional
I've been using the original MS Natural keyboard for years and I love it. But I wanted to go wireless so I bought this set. Unfortunately, it falls far short of being functional. Overall, the keyboard and mouse have a nice solid feel to them. The keyboard especially has a nice feel to the keys. Reception has not been a problem at all.
Here are the problems:
Keyboard:
1. The strangely laid out home/end/pg up/pg down/insert/delete keys that everyone has mentioned.
2. In order to conserve space, the different key pads are placed uncomfortably close together. The letter keys, the home/end/cursor keys and the numeric keypad are so close together that they are almost one continuous keypad. This makes it difficult, tactily, to move from one set of keys to another. This sort of defeats my purpose, which was to buy a full-sized keyboard for my laptop. For instance, when I use the page up/down keys, I have to be careful not to press on the numeric keys. These are not things I need to be thinking about when I am touch-typing.
3. Again, a space-saver issue. They have brought the function keys right down on top of the letter keypad and the scroll-lock/print scr/pause keys down right on top of the numeric keypad. I use the numeric keypad a lot and because they have basically added a 6th row of keys at the top, my hand is always positioned on the wrong keys and I'm typing all the wrong characters. Same with the function keys, which I also use a lot. Not only are they right on top of the number keys of the keyboard, they have these sort of random spaces between them, which again, makes them very difficult to use when touch-typing. With this keyboard, I've been forced to resort to hunt-and-peck typing a lot.
4. One last negative. Yet again, a space saver issue. The right shift key has been reduced to nearly a "normal" letter-key size in order to squish the cursor keys right up against the letter keyboard. This makes the "enter" key stick way out past the shift key. And again, tactily, I constantly end up pressing Enter instead of Shift because the shift is a good 3/4 inches in from the end of the Enter key.
Mouse:
1. Huge mouse. Not good for small hands, which I have. It is also a right-handed only mouse. So if you're a lefty, you're out of luck. I'm not a lefty but I mostly use my left hand for the mouse and I switch to my right, when my hand get's tired. It is nice to have that versatility.
I suppose once you get used to these inconsistencies, it would be an adequate keyboard. But I wonder why I should have to relearn to type to suit Logitech's quirks? P>The one thing that the old MS Natural keyboard and that none of these new split keyboards have is the reversed "stand" (can't think of a better word) where it tilts the keyboard AWAY from you rather than toward you like they all do now. When the keyboard is tilted away, it is much much much more comfortable. I have seen other people mention this as well. I wonder why they did away with that excellent feature. Right now I've propped up the Logitech with a piece of wood under the wrist pad. Makes a world of difference.
21 Good keyboard, not so good mouse
I could not tolerate the jerky cursor motion of the cordless mouse included in this package. After a few days, I replaced the mouse with Logitech's MX500 corded model, which works well. I was also tempted to try MX700 cordless mouse. Reviews of it suggest that it has a sampling rate on par with corded mice, but I wasn't sure whether a second transmitter/reciever would create interference problems. This would have been a great package if Logitech had included a better mouse.
22 So good - why do they have to mess up something?
I bought the Comfort Duo to replace a "Natural" keyboard made by another well-known manufacturer. In recent years though, that model has become really cheap and very uncomfortable and awkward to use for anything but the most casual typing, with wobbly keys that bind and cause tremendous frustration.
The Comfort Duo on the other hand is *outstanding* with one small exception. The keyboard feel is very nice, with good but not obtrusive tactile feedback, good key placement, a nice wrist-rest and it looks nice as well. The mouse is superb, although the buttons seem a little closer together than I'm used to with other mice (I keep missing the right mouse button hitting the mouse housing instead) but I'm sure I'll get used to it.
The only disappointment (and this is a big one, I'm afraid - the reason I didn't give this set five stars) is the placement of the Insert/Home/PgUp/Delete/End/PgDn keys. Instead of placing them in the "standard" layout of two rows of three keys each, ordered as I typed them above (heck, even my laptop uses that layout!), Logitech has opted for a screwy three-row layout that places the "Delete" key right where your hand expects the "Home" key.
It's bad enough that touch-typists like me had to adjust to placement of the "6" key on the wrong hand when they started making these "ergo" keyboards, but it's a shame that Logitech had to go and spoil an otherwise perfect keyboard for no reason that I can tell, other than allowing them to shorten the keyboard by a half-inch....
23 Good But...
I really like the Cordless Comfort Duo.
Pros:
Smooth as butter scroll wheel
Great key action on keyboard
Wireless is great
Cons:
Can't program iTouch keys for simple commands e.g. minimize all, open My Computer
home-end
ins--pgup
del--pgdn
keys very akwardly arranged
Mouse is largeish
Mouse buttons are not big enough from left to right. I can't use my ringfinger with this mouse like I could with my trackman marble.
The buttons to the right of the spacebar are too small.
The mouse has been somewhat unreliable at a range of 4 feet through a thick wooden desk.
Granted I love this set, but there are a lot of nits to pick.
24 A Great 1-2 Punch From the King of Input Devices
I had the old Cordless Comfort Duo at my last job, and it was great, except for the mouse. The mouse that came with the old pack A) was not optical. What is the point of a non-optical cordless mouse? and 2)It was misshapen. I did not like the shape of the mouse. It was uncomfortable to say the least.
Now that I am working at home, I needed a new keyboard/mouse combo for myself, and I went looking for the Duo again, despite the mouse. What I found in this pack was a *very* pleasant surprise. The mouse is now optical and is the same as the MouseMan mouse, which is a lot more comfortable. The keyboard is still the same great ergonomic keyboard, in stylish black, and it blows the Microsoft Natural out of the proverbial water.
The range on the receiver is pretty good as well, although if you are going to have the mouse/keyboard up higher than the surface holding the receiver, you may want to put a phone book under it or something. You don't need line-of-sight connection, but it does help. The signal can find its way around your speakers or other desktop bric-a-brac pretty well, but if there are too many intereferences you will start to notice a small lag in response time. This isn't a big deal surfing the web or typing an email, but if you are playing a game, it might not be a welcome occurrance. However, a minor repositioning of the receiver will do the trick for you.
Comfort, style, mobility...what else could you ask for in a keyboard/mouse combo pack?
25 Great Choice & Great Value
I just recently purchased this combination wireless keyboard and mouse and am very impressed. I had tried several other wireless mice before and none have measured up to the funtionality and ease of use as this logitech combo. The keyboard has a lot of optional keys to use as shortcuts, they are kind of fun to play with but for the most part superfluous. I would definitely reccomend this product, and I think that it's a great value. You can get an even better deal if you go for the traditional style keyboard as amazon is currently offering a substantial rebate for that option. The split key formation for me, however, is the best choice.
26 Great choice for wireless combo!
I've tried several different wireless combos, and this is by far the best for the price. I would recommend that you do not install the software that comes with the package, as it's not needed. Just plug it all in, reboot and you're set! Good tactile feedback on keyboard, and the mouse is comfortable, unless you're a lefty, in which case this won't work... They make a lefty kit, so go for that instead.
27 Elegance and functionality
This is a great set! Not only does it look good (black keyboards and mice rocks!), but it is also comfortable and practical. No more cord clutters!
I used to have the Logitech Cordless Desktop Pro and it served me well. The new keyboard in this set has quieter keys and the mouse is optical. Talk about an upgrade for the same price! I love it!
I would recommend this set to anyone who wants it all: functionality, practicality, and beauty.
