1 No support.
I'm having trouble with my mouse. I loved and used it for three years. Great device. The thing drains batteries though. I upgraded the software from the logitech website and it would recognize it as a regular two button mouse. Finding help was a pain. No response from the site. Great Support Logitech!
2 Paint easily peeled off after only 2 weeks/ not warranted!!
Seems Logitech knows they did a poor job on the painting so, after only 2 weeks normal office use, try to clean the mouse's palm rest area with a napkin, and guess what, the silver painting comes off and the white plastic shows. :(
Talked to Logitech support and descibed it to them, they said "Oh, you don't like that?" and then told me "the paint is not warranted". I guess because it's cosmetic, but only after 2 weeks? Sounds too soon to me. :(
3 not so good
this mouse is way too heavy to be comfortable over the long run
4 Great mouse
I recently installed this Logitech Wireless Optical Mouseman and both installation and operation have been without problem.
How long will the battery last? I have measured the average battery current and observed the mouse exhibits three modes of operation, Active Mode (mouse is in motion), Slumber Mode(mouse motion has just ceased) and Sleep Mode (mouse enters Sleep Mode after 65 seconds of Slumber). If mouse is moved or any button is pressed the mouse will immediately enter Active Mode followed by Slumber Mode if there is no motion of the mouse.
In Active Mode the mouse current is approximately 30 milliamperes. In Slumber Mode the mouse current is approximately 5 milliamperes. In Sleep Mode the mouse current is approximately 0.6 milliamperes. Based on an Alkaline AA battery of 1500 milliampere hour capacity the batteries should last for about 50 hours if the mouse is constantly in motion and 2500 hours (15weeks) if the mouse is always at rest. I measured these currents with the mouse resting on a uniform white surface (printer paper), a matt black surface, a smooth uniform light tan surface and a faux oak desk top. I found no substantial difference in the currents associated with the various modes due to the surface type. The back of a plastic table place matt makes a great surface for the mouse, smooth and uniform in texture.
When I use the mouse on my light faux oak desk which has rather dark long grain lines the pointer tends to move in small jumps as the mouse crosses the grain lines. On any reasonably uniform surface the operation is smooth and the pointer is well controlled. In my setup with a non-metal computer desk the mouse responded from over10 feet from the receiver. I am not a gamer but to me the pointer responds instantly under all conditions including from Sleep or Slumber mode.
The programmable buttons provide a wide range of options to customize the mouse operation.
5 Great mouse - But not for fast action games.
I like the mouse very much, but the optical mouse doesn't respond fast enough to use with games like Half-Life or Quake III.
If you're not into fast action games, then this is the best mouse on the market.
6 Durable and then some
I've had my Logitech wireless optical mouse for almost 2 years. I also have pets who love to jump up on the chair where I mouse and knock the mouse to the floor. I would say that at the least, it falls from the 2 foot height once a day. I have never had a problem with this product. The other nice thing is that batteries last me about 3-4 months, and that is with near constant computer usage. The cost of the Logitech wireless optical mouse is far outweighed by its versatility, long battery life, and durability.
7 Eats Batteries
This thing really goes through batteries. Even when not in use, the red light inside still glows slightly, indicating that the batteries are slowly being drained.
Removing batteries after each us prolongs battery life, but it's a pain in the .... Otherwise, using regularly requires frequent battery replacements.
It's a good mouse in all other respects, but I'd much rather have the corded version. ( Are all cordless mice battery hungry? If not, which ones are most battery efficient? )
8 Great Mouse - Buy it
This is an amazing mouse. I never realized how much I would appreciate not having the cord. It is really nice not to have the resistance of a cord when you are using the mouse. My desk is also a lot more tidy. It fits perfectly in my hand. The buttons are very well laid out and the battery life is about 2 or 3 months. The transmitter works best when it is within about 2 feet of the mouse. There is no need for a mouse pad because it is optical - it works flawlessly on my light wood grain desk.
My only complaint is that the blue rubber surrounding the thumb button on the side wore out and edventually fell off. No big deal. I've been using this mouse everyday for over two years.
9 Great mouse but poor software drivers.
I've bought two Logitech wireless mice as well as their wired mice. In all cases their software drivers on both Mac and Windows have not been able to slow down the cursor movement to a practical speed. It would overshoot due to moving too fast even on the slowest speeds. Finally they came out with some software to nearly completely fix the speed control problem for the older non-wheel mice. This company is apparently making the most money it ever has if you see their financials. Too bad that economic success comes with a bit of blindness to product feature quality. I sure hope they fix this problem since I otherwise like their mice but have lost a lot of money chasing their features when their drivers can't stop erratic behaviors of the cursor.
10 Better than Microsoft's, but still lacking
Side by side (I have both at my desk right now) this mouse is hands down better than the wireless intellimouse explorer. HOWEVER, it does lose its mind once in awhile and jump across the screen. 1 month is about all you can expect the batteries to last. Big-handed people will find this thing a little small. The slope of the mouse puts your wrist and forearm at a funky angle.
However, compared to the MS mouse...it (1) is not nearly as heavy (2)is better balanced (3) slides easier...which makes delicate pointing tasks easier (4) exhbits FAR less hysterisis (5) wakes up faster.
One thing you will notice with almost all of the optical mice is their tendency to sleep on you as soon as you stop moving them. That fraction of a second that it takes them to wake up is enough to cause a "jump". I have yet to find a wireless optical mouse that does well for fine-positioning work found in graphic design tasks.
11 Cordless, but Lacking
I bought this mouse a year ago, but had to put it away because i didn't have enough batteries to replace my old ones(which drained in 3 days). I found it a couple of days ago and decided to install it. Although the position of the hand is very weird, you'll get used to it.
Still, I don't fully enjoy the mouse because it is heavy, and uses up quite a lot of battery power.
Buy it if you are willing to live with the faults.
12 Free at last!
I originally got hooked on optical mice with a Logitech model I purchased five years ago. Back then, it had a cord and required a metal metal grid mousepad (very cold in the mornings) to work. I finally decided to try this mouse because I wanted something new.
I love what Logitech has donne with the mouse. The comfort in my hand (which is fairly large) is great. I enjoy the cordless feature. One warning do not place the mouse receiver directly on your PC, the signal seems to get muttled (I have it sitting on my external Zip drive, which is sitting on my PC).
The best feature of the mouse is the battery software. Every 2-3 months (I use this machine about 50-60 hours a week) I get a warning message on my screen that tells me the batteries are low.
After trying this out I can't imagine why anyone would ever wanted to use the old fashioned mouse. I wouldn't be surprised if in a few years optical cordless mice become the standard with you PC purchase.
13 Adequate, but disappointing
I've had this mouse for probably a year now. I have no real problem with the accuracy or ergonomics of the mouse (though I haven't bothered configuring the thumb button, which isn't in the most convenient position). The battery life isn't great... certainly nowhere near the 3 months claimed by the manufacturer, but that may just be because I use the computer more often than an average person-- I can't go more than a month (and sometimes a fortnight) before I have to change my batteries. Fortunately, I'm using NiMH rechargeables with a charged set always handy, so it's not a huge issue with me. However, the biggest problem with the mouse is that it displays an annoying tendency to randomly jump to the corner of the screen every few minutes or so. I get the impression that it's not a widespread problem, having read other reviews, but it's a data point nonetheless. Like I said, I've been using it a year, so the issues haven't been bad enough to ditch it entirely, but I do plan on getting a new mouse in the not-too-distant future, and probably handing this down to my g/f, who hopefully won't experience the same glitches on her PC.
14 Good mouse with only a couple of problems...
I've had the logitech cordless mouseman optical for about six months now and find the moust to be almost perfect. The mold of the mouse fits your hand almost perfectly, and for day to day use on my Powerbook running OS X, it is wonderful. There are though a couple of problems with the mouse. First off, the batteries appear to die quite quickly, they last anywhere between a month and a month and a half. While the mouse uses two AA batteries and its not too much of a hassle to change the batteries, this does add up in cost over time and for the extra $10, it might make sense to pick up the MX700 with a rechargable base station. The only other problem I have with it is a minor quibble; the OS X software doesn't allow you to configure each program to use different buttons. If it did - it would be perfect.
In the end, this is a good buy. The size of the mouse is good, the mold is perfect, and the movement/tracking works like a charm.
15 Great but could be better
I found this mouse to be a great replacement for my old wired, gummed up ball mouse. It has never lost it's connection and has a fast response time. I gave it 4 stars because I don't like the buttons (right and left). They are too small and should cover the front of the mouse.
I plan on getting another one for my office.
16 Logitech Cordless MouseMan Optical
Briefly: Easy to install but it ends there. Basically this product functions like a standard mouse that needs a new ball or has to be cleaned. Exasperating trying to get the arrow to land on the spot you select. It wanders and drifts. You'll never score 8000 playing solitaire with this one. I went back to the old mouse that needs to be refurbished. It functions better. Sorry Logitech!
17 Great Mouse
My experience with the logitech mouseman mouse has been a very good one. I find it is easy to use. Overall I think it is the best mouse that I have used.
18 Great Mouse
My experience with the logitech mouseman mouse has been a very good one. I find it is easy to use. Overall I think it is the best mouse that I have used.
19 Not good for gaming or precision work
I thought this would be a nice addition to my setup, so I purchased one about 1 year ago. After installing it, it performed OK in 2D/desktop apps, but lacked the precision of movement found in a standard wired mouse. It's a bit jerky, and tends to wander a bit by itself. Try doing precision graphics design work with this thing, you will find it problematic in these areas.
Using it for gaming purposes just completely turned me off of this product. Playing FPS games like Half-Life, NOLF, Q3, UT etc. really shows the problems with this device. Try aiming a sniper rifle accurately and tracking targets with this thing. You will not be pleased. Again, the main problem was the lack of precision of movement, and in games, the mouse acted a bit like a drunken hamster. I would NOT recommend this device to anyone looking for a steady pointer. The extra BIT of added convenience gained by this cordless device is far outweighed by it's performance defects.
On the other hand, I have been extremely happy with my Logitech Optical mouse - the WIRED version.
20 Fabulous
I don't know what the fuss is with changing batteries... I've had the Logitech mouse since november 2001 and I've only changed the batteries once. I have NEVER taken any time to remove the batteries in order to save battery power. Perhaps 'cleaner64'(a customer reviewer) is right about a light colored surface prolonging the life of the Logitech's batteries. I bought a Fellowes mouse pad with a built-in wrist pad. The mouse pad is a very light gray, and the wrist pad is a dark gray. Aside from being comfortable, the pad's light color may have preserved the mouse's batteries.
Seriously, I've had the thing on for a little over a year... only one battery change.
21 Wonderful - so far!
I haven't had it long, but I love it! It installed easily, and although I did not get it to work with the USB hub, it works well on the PS2 plug. I read a lot about this one & the Microsoft Wireless Blue Mouse (which everyone said was jumpy) & I think I made the right choice. This is a million times better than my old ball mouse. I am taking the advice of those who said to keep it on a white piece of paper to conserve batteries - hope it works!
22 A Great Mouse
I had some doubts about purchasing this mouse, but I'm glad I did. It s easy to use and works really well from a distance. It's the pefect computer accessory.
23 pros and cons of this toy
First of all, this is not a new product. For some people like me, who have been dealing with computers for 10 years but still the first time to use a cordless mouse, the experience is wonderful. Without that stupid wire, everything seems to be so cool.
Pros.
1, wireless, the name says it all, freedom is priceless.
2, optical, never have to clean that ball again.
3, very precise, and can be easily setup for internet browsing and gaming.
Cons,
1, This is an old model. The setup files came within the CD-R cannot run under my windows XP system. But who cares? My XP can recognize this mouse and make full use of it, and that's enough.
2, battery eater! It's so hungry for batteries that you should start thinking about rechargable batteries and chargers. Or, if you have a lot money to spend, buy yourself a MX700 model, it's rechargable, like a shaver. Just try to imagine the feeling of holding a shaver in your hand when you are browsing internet...
3, the mouse get lost from time to time...well, it's cordless, and now it can be clueless.
24 not compatible with Windows XP
I had to return this mouse because it wasn't compatible with my computer system: Windows XP
25 Best mouse ever.
This is the best mouse I've ever used. I find it weird now to use a mouse with a trackball. This mouse is shaped so well that it just melts into the palm of your hand. This mouse is well worth the money. The only downside.. it uses batteries. But that's worth it.
26 Not all software versions work with WIN 98 SE
We got a mouseman for my wife's XP notebook last month and installed it in about 30 seconds, no disk required. She liked it very much. Today I received a second MouseMan for my WIN 98 SE desktop, and the install disk seemed to do an incomplete job, and windows would run me around in circles looking for missing drivers, which were never found. After wasting a couple of hours on reboots, I noticed that my disk was labeled 9.42.1 and the one my wife got was 9.28.
I uninstalled 9.42.1, and reinstalled the 9.28. The installation was nicer and it didn't try to install AOL and a bunch of other stuff that is hard to reject without a working mouse. More importantly, version 9.28 worked flawlessly, and I finally had a mouse again. Otherwise I would be returning the MouseMan instead of writing this review.
27 Battery Charger Satisfies Mouse's Appetite
I think this truely is a great mouse ... have used it daily for hours at a time over this last year. It did use up my first set of batteries in about two weeks or so. I decided that before drowning the mouse, I would acquire a set of NiMH batteries (1600 mAh are fine) and engage the battery charger I use with my digital camera. No matter what the Logitech literature may say about rechargeable batteries ... this approach works great! My mouse and I continue to be very happy together after these many months ... and mousepower seems to last longer by 20% or so.
28 I Agree With "Winterstone", Except...
...it can be used with both the left and right hands.
I am somewhat ambidextrous and have no trouble using this mouse
with either one (actually, I'm a righty but for some reason I prefer using a mouse with my left hand).
I can now move the mouse to my right (where there is another desk) and scroll & click while I'm checking a document or notes
and then move back again to my left.
I can't believe how wonderful an un-tethered mouse can feel!
29 Use a white mouse pad or paper (batteries will last longer)
I like this mouse overall. One problem I had at first was that it eats up batteries like crazy (every 2 weeks ot so). Logitech support helped - they sugggested to use this mouse on a white surface (a white paper sheet or white mouse pad). That did the trick, now I get 2-3 months battery life. This makes sense, basically the mouse lights up in the dark (or, when it is on a dark desk).
30 a good battery monster
This really is a great mouse, set up is easy, precision is great works with pc/mac, but it eats up batteries like crazy. I also have a cordless keyboard that I have been enjoying for more than 2 years; I had to change the batteries only twice. The mouse I have only been using about 10 months and have changed my batteries already 6 times. The issue is that the optical part is on even if the computer is turned off. Therefore eating up the batteries even when not used. <...
31 Easy setup, works great
Look, its a mouse. All you want it to do is be easy to set up and easy to use. This product is both, and it looks cool too.
32 Great Product
I have used the mouse for about six months now on my new apple i-mac, with no problems. Just wanted to let mac users know that it works great with OS X.
33 Logitech customer service poisoned me for life.
I really, really wanted my logitech mouse to work. They failed to produce Mac OS X drivers for months, and their support staff was aggressively rude.
On the other hand, the day Kensington announced Mac OS X drivers, I canned my Logitech and never looked back. Their support is awesome, always has been, I made a comment on the registration page and got two emails from the product manager and a VP asking for more details about a suggestion I made. Which they implemented...
Never, ever buy any Logitech product if a Kensington one is available.
34 cool mouse
This is a very good cordless mouse. Even since i had it, it gives me lots of freedom and no annoying feelings when you use those wheel + wired mouse. It comes with a very creative and comfortable shape. Its Back button on the side is very very useful to me (i wish it also had a Forward). anyway, i'd say the only drawback of this product is probably that its battery runs out a bit too fast...probably in 2 months.
35 They Finally Got It Right!
My first "cordless mouse" was useless. Such a new tecnology
it was riddled with problems, required too much fussing with,
and was returned within 2 days.
I was hesitant to go down that road again, but I trust Logitech.
The price here at Amazon is the best by the way.
It installed itself with no problems whatsoever. The old
Logitech mouse software was automatically taken care of with
the new Logitech software. Not one bump. I'm using Win98 SE
on a laptop.
They really have it down now! This thing works great. I can
set it next to me on the sofa so that it's totally blocked from
the receiver, and it works perfectly. The scroll wheel is
awesome - I didn't think I'd care about it, but it's the best
thing since sliced bread. Fully programmable buttons, a
thumb button that is impossible to click by accident - nice -
over all: A great mouse, installs itself, works beautifull,
and doesn't chew through batteries at all in my opinion.
This is the mouse you want.
36 Good for what it is, but what about DIFFERENT SIZES for once
This is a good wireless optical mouse, although it occasionally glitches. It has some lag, but with the settings dialed in, that should not be too noticeable. This mouse will work under NT (with the serial adapter...the MICROSOFT mouse won't even do that!!) and 2000. I get a range of >10' in my office. I use it at work constantly, and get about a month out of a pair of AA batteries. My main problem lies in its shape and size. Sure it looks ergonomic, but if you are like me (6'1") with big hands...this mouse is a little narrow. You'll find your wrist contorting and putting a lot of pressure on the heel of your hand. WHY CAN'T MOUSE MAKERS FIGURE OUT THAT PEOPLE HAVE DIFFERENT SIZED HANDS? The least they could do would be to make the thing with different sized shells....until then, no mouse deserves 5 stars.
37 Battery eater
Ok, I've read the reviews and I even own two of these mice and I love them. However I just thought everyone should know that if you use it a lot, this mouse SWALLOWS batteries (double A). Three months?? more like 3 weeks...
38 A few hangups, but overall fantastic
I'll get the negatives out of the way first: the mouse is indeed heavy, mostly because of the weight of its batteries, it does gobble the batteries at an alarming speed under my admittedly very heavy usage- every two or three weeks it needs fresh AA's, and it has connection issues, occasionally losing track of itself and flinging the pointer into the lower left hand corner, or the only real annoyance, hanging and refusing to even be recognized as a pointing device, requiring some mystical combination of resetting, popping batteries in and out, yanking my USB devices and five or six cold boots. I'm not convinced, however, that this is not the fault of my bus or (gasp) Win98.
All of this is worth it. I waited specifically for a Logitech cordless optical mouse for years, and was not disappointed. No hangups, even on my weird, slightly reflective mousepad, my clear glass desk (!) or my lap. It's so wonderfully comfortable, a little bit ergo and with no cord, it's less strain to push it around than it was to keep yanking it. The insane speed (which I like) and weight were easy to become accustomed to.
Well worth the money, but after this you'll cringe whenever you see a mouse ball.
39 OUCH !!!
This is the MOST ergonimcally unfriendly mouse I have ever used.
After using it for just 5 or 6 minutes, I have to shake the cramps out of my hand. It would be a great mouse if it were designed a little better ... but it is literally painful to use!
40 PC Integration
While the Optical mouse may work well, the out of the box install did not work on my standard Dell PC. My guess is that there is an interrupt incompatability. Not wanting to figure this out, I went back to my standard Microsoft mouse. Until Logitech comes out with a 6 step way to take their mouse an adapt it to standard hardware, I would avoid it unless you like messing with your system.
41 Worth the investment
Sure it's more expensive than a traditional corded, non-optical mouse but it's worth it.
Very quick and problem less installation on my Win2K Pro system. Four buttons (including wheel) provides all the control surfaces one typically needs. I've never found it lacking in day-to-day work or gaming use.
The only two potentially negative aspects are the weight and need to replace batteries. At first it did seem a little heavy (due to the two AA batteries) but after a couple of days of use I don't even notice it now. On replacing the batteries, I use my system ~2 hours every other day and have had to replace the batteries twice in 6 months. Just buy yourself a bulk pack of AA batteries and stick them in your desk, it isn't good if your batteries die and you have none handy.
42 good, but...
First of all this is the one perfect mouse for most folks. It is sooo easy to pick up quickly when you run off the surface. The problem for me is it doesn't have enough buttons, but for most people this mouse is more than perfect.
43 Outstanding Product
Very precise, great range - probably the best cordless mouse available. Tracking as good as any corded mouse I've used.
For anyone considering the Microsoft Wireless Intellimouse Explorer, I offer the following thoughts... What an incredible disappointment it was. It had great ergonomics, but tracking was horrible - stuttering and failing to detect clicks made it impossible to use (maybe it's because of the USB-only connection). Save yourself the hassle and get the Logitech mouse.
44 This is a great product ...BUT...
I have mine hooked thru a usb hub. Everytime something else on the hub starts up... the mouse locks. Sent Logitech an email asking if there was something I could do but their response was that no Logitech products are checked out for use on hubs.
If you aren't going to be using a hub it is great!
45 Not as precise
I got this mouse cause I knew of the preciseness of the optical mice, and I was normally a fan of the Logitech products.
But, I do have to say this isn't as precise as I required. For some reason, this mouse does little 0.5 second stalls, almost constantly. Simple test of mine involved moving the mouse in a small 1 inch up/down motion to see where the point ends up.
It never stays in place on the screen, but rather at the very top or bottom of my screen eventually. All that time I didn't move the mouse more than 2 inches on my desktop.
For an every day use mouse, something that doesn't require as much preciseness, it's a great mouse, but for what I do, it stalled too much for my uses.
46 Best mouse I have ever seen
What can I say, it just the best mouse I have ever use.
47 Average Joe User
I recently bought this cordless mouse based on the reviews on the Amazon site. I consider myself an average type computer user with average computer skills.
The installation of the mouse was for the most part a breeze. I plugged the mouse into the PS/2 port (the place where my old mouse plugged in) because my USBs were all in use. I loaded the software from the CD and rebooted the computer. The only small problem I had (which really wasn't that much of one) was I had to establish the wireless connection between the mouse and the receiver before I was completely finished with the installation because some of the installation required the use of the mouse. This really wasn't addressed in the installation instuctions.
Also my wife was reluctant to add the mouse to our system thinking that "if it ain't broke don't fix it". I think she's now sold on the benefits of going wireless. The mouse is a little heavier than a corded mouse, but it is much more moveable without the cord to hinder me. I really recommend it if you are looking for a cordless mouse.
48 MOUSE WILL NOT WORK ON DARK SURFACES
I purchased this mouse so I could do away with both the wires from the mouse that constantly become tangled and the annoyance of using a mouse pad. After I set up the mouse, which was quite simple, I found the mouse did not work. I called several friends of mine who had purchased this mouse to see if they could help me in discovering why it was not working. I learned that you must use this mouse on a desk top that has a light colored surface. My desk top has a black surface and would therefore not work. I now have to use a light colored mousepad or a white sheet of paper under the mouse for it to work.
49 Comfortable and functional...
I like the fact that this mouse has a "big" feel to it yet is light and easy to click. Setup was a breeze in W2K and being cordless AND optical give you a freedom you can't appreciate until you have it. This is my new standard at home and in the office.
50 The mouse to go!
I have tried this mouse, and it works wonders. It has extreme clarity, you don't have to worry about slamming the mouse down in frustration. You don't have to worry about it getting tangled with the keyboard and speaker cords, and you can put it anywhere you want. Double A batteries is a very common type of batteries, so that's a plus too.
The scroll button lets you scroll down pages with ease. It's definitely the mouse to go.
51 It Has Advantages and Disadvantages!!
Let me start by saying I am not a technophile by any strech of the imagination. I simply bought this mouse because I couldn't stand the cord any longer. I have had this almost since the day it hit the market and have been waiting to give it a totally fair review. That's been almost a year and plenty of time and use to be fair.
My intial reaction was that it was the greatest product ever invented. It did away with the cord, which was such a bother. And, because of the optical technology, it glides over just about anything I want to use as a mouse pad.
From the begining, I was concerned about the weight, which you do get used to. Just be careful if you are prone to repetative motion disease. It has caused me to have more flair ups,and my doctor has suggested I get rid of it. However, I am hooked and although I think it could be improved, wouldn't give it up for anything.
The other problem is the batteries. It inhales them at a much faster rate than was suggested by the information put out by Logitech. Be prepared and keep a set of spares at your desk at all times. I will say, on a positive note, that it gives a lot of warning that the batteries are going low. This does give you time to pick up new ones without having to drop everything.
I would say this is a great device if you use your computer on a limited basis. If you do serious web work, or anything needing a lot of mouse work, you might wan to stick to a lighter ( and cheaper) product.
52 This is one handy mouse....
Computer wise, this is the best purchase we've made. First of all it's a cinch to install, my husband had it going it less than 5 minutes. It comes with a little "base" that I was afraid that the it had to be within the area of the mouse to work. Not true. I mounted it to the side of our computer desk where it's not even in view and the mouse works perfectly. It is so handy. Also, my 2 year old has a bad habit of wanting to play on the computer when I'm not looking. All I have to do is put the mouse away, no unplugging anything! We paid full price, and it's worth every penny.
53 Execllent product
I have been using it for over 6 months. Once you start using you will never feel like using the mouse with a chord. It's one of the greatest advances in mouse technology chordless & optical cannot ask for more. Could have been a little lighter but you have to have the batteries.
Only drawback is to change the batteries in the mouse once in 2 months if you are a extensive user. I use rechargable batteries though.
54 Perfect for XP Users!
This product is great! The installation took me less than 5 mins. In fact, the installation of the mouse itself took me around 1 min. (i used the rest of the 5 mins to read the instructions) I am using Windows XP and it recognized the mouse IMMEDIATELY. I didn't even have to use the CD that came with the mouse at all.
In terms of function, it's, so far, very good. It does everything a mouse should do.
The design is also great, i really like it.
highly recommended!!!
55 It's a miracle!
The first Logitech Cordless Mouseman that I purchased was back in June of 2001. I loved it. Since then, I have purchased 3 more: one for my computer at work and two as gifts for friends. They are equally impressed with the mouse. Once you get used to the various features (especially the double click thumb button), it is almost impossible to use another mouse. When I try to use a conventional wired mouse, I am frustrated with the cord and the light weight. The Logitech just feels right. It has enough "heft" to be very stable on whatever surface it is used on, and places your wrist in a very natural and comfortable position. Recently I read an article in one of the popular computer magazines that called into question Logitech's claim that their mouse is designed for human hands. In fact, it is. I often wonder what species some electronics are designed for. As a side note: Whereas I don't advocate dropping your mouse on the floor, I can personally attest to the fact that I have accidentally dropped my Logitech Cordless Mouseman on the floor from a distance of 32" two times, and it still works fine. Kudos, Logitech!
56 Cordless mouse even better with switch
I use this mouse with my laptop and find that it adds additional freedom of movement that I can now enjoy.
However, I found that the movement sensor stays on even if the mouse is packed away in my carrier case. Far too soon the battery ran out.
I added a miniature on/off switch inside the back of the mouse and now I have extended battery life and enjoy this mouse even more.
57 Mouse missing some whiskers...
A fan of Logitech peripherals, I decided to buy my second cordless mouse in 4 years. There was nothing wrong with my first one, just wanted to keep up with the times...plus my old one is not XP compatible! Damn Microsoft! You have to download the new mouse drivers from Logitech's web site. It's free and if you want to keep your old non-XP mouse, you HAVE to do this or it'll !@#@ your XP operating system! I found that out...15 minutes with a technician looking at a blue screen.
:-))
In 1999, I bought the first Logitech Cordless First Mouse plus. Never had a problem installing it, using it, uninstalling it, etc. The batteries lasted very long - 2 AAA Energizers were changed only twice in 1 year!!!
In 2002, I bought the new Logitech Cordless Optical Mouse. I have to say it is more accurate than the old radio frequency type. It's more ergonomic, doesn't skip (not yet), and the mouse wheel/buttons have a more sensitive feel; therefore, it works much faster and clicks faster. The added weight with the 2 AA batteries actually weights the mouse down on the surface and gives it a more accurate scroll. Without that weight, the mouse is so light it flies across the mousepad as you have to watch your strength! It has the Smart Management feature which saves on battery life. After 5 minutes, the optical scanner shuts down from a steady light to a slight flicker. Once moved, it automatically goes to a steady light. Experienced no loss in mouse pointer movement. Apparently, this is supposed to give the included (crap!) Panasonic batteries a life of 2 months. Better yet, get Energizers and the battery life should last 3 months. The mouse price is a bit up there but always bargain with the sales folks. I was able to get mine for [cost] Canadian when I negotiated with the Future Shop people. The sticker price was [price]. ... I was also interested in the new Web Wheel function. By pressing the scroll wheel, a circular web wheel comes out with your typical web functions. It lets you bookmark a max. 5 addresses. This doesn't really make sense when you have unlimited bookmarking on your browser. Geez...a bit redundant. Web Wheel is a great idea but certain functions are missing! Arrrgh!!! It has a back button but no forward button. Thus, you still have to use your main browser to go forward. Also, the first time you hit the web wheel, ESC key doesn't cause it to exit as it says on Logitech's site. You have to right click to get rid of it. Then the ESC key works no problem as does the right click button. Also, the auto-scroll feature on the old mouse is missing. A nice feature when scrolling through long documents or web pages. Now you have to keep scrolling the wheel to go up or down the screen. Shame on Logitech...real dumb mistakes!
Therefore, Logitech's new cordless optical deserves 4 out of 5 stars.
(Note: I use the mouse with my system which is full version XP Home Ed., Intel 845 DDR MB, 512 MB SDRAM, 40 GB Maxtor HDD, etc.)
I hope this was helpful...
58 Best computer accesory
I bought this mouse about a year ago and since then it has been my best computer acquisition ever. I have recomended it to friends and family and it turns out to be a great present for birthdays.
The mouse is accurate and comfortable, plus the button on the side is quite useful. The batteries lasted to me for about 10 months but I don't use it daily.
59 So far so good
WildRN from San Diego stated that their old cordless keyboard was incompatible with this new mouse. Logitech has a webpage to check for compatibility of various devices for the receiver you have. Just check the model number on your receiver. I had to make sure that I got the right model of cordless optical mouseman wheel to go with my desktop pro set. So far it works great!
60 I love this mouse
I've purchased three of these mice so far for work and for home. The combination of the cordless and the optical technologies are just amazing. The feel of the mouse is a bit odd at first but I found that after just a couple of hours it felt very natural in my hand.
61 Great Mechanical Functionality With Room To Improve
I have owned this for 7 weeks. I use it on a Mac G4 running OS 9.2
POSITIVES:
1. Optical tracking works very well over most surfaces. Will never use a mechanical mouse again.
2. Wireless works well. Have my receiver under my desk on top of tower.
3. Weight is good. Overly light mice are difficult to use for photo editing.
SUGGESTIONS:
1. Software functionality is basic. Low Battery function didn't work. Substituted a shareware driver (USB Overdrive) which provides many more options (e.g., independently programmable tracking speed and acceleration, acceleration option for the wheel, etc.).
NEGATIVES:
1.With daily use on a silver grey mousepad the batteries lasted 7 weeks.
2. Latest software driver has problems. Increases time for disk to disk and application to application copy operations by a factor of three. This is significant when doing backups. Resolved the issue by using USB Overdrive, driver mentioned above.
3. Does not track well on patterned surfaces (e.g., wood grained desk top)
4. Side button is too low and fairly useless.
62 Nice mouse and I dont miss the cord
I purchased the mouse to work with my new XP system and didnt have any problems. XP installed it easily and I was in business. So nice to not have that cord ! Buy it.
63 THE 9304960403 CORDLESS MOUSEMAN STOP WORKING.
I BOUGHT THIS MOUSE AND IN 2MONTHS IT STOP WORKING.NOT GOOD AT ALL. SAVE YOUR MONEY AND BUY SOMETHING BETTER.
64 4 stars for computing, 3 stars for gaming
4 stars for computing, 3 stars for gaming. Took about a week for my family to get used to it.(we were used to a three button two scroll wheel logitech) Its great for regular computing once your used to its size, the location of the thumb button and the weight. For gaming its fine for most strategy games like Starcraft and Age of Empires but not very good for 1st person shooters like Unreal Tournament and Quake 3. (It's just not responsive enough for those games). Batteries wont drain that often as long as you have the mouse on a light colored surface. I had mine on a black mouse pad and the batteries drained in a week. Then I read the instructions.LIGHT COLORED SURFACES WILL MAKE THE BATTERIES LAST A LOT LONGER. (about a month for me under moderate to heavy usage)
One oddity is in the scroll wheel. It worked great under Win98 but it doesnt work smoothly with my WinXP home ed. and certain programs. (I am using the latest mouse drivers.) It's like it doesnt recognize every click of the scroll wheel. So far it does this in IE6 and Word2002 but scrolls fine in Outlook2002. I'm hoping its a driver problem.
65 Nice, but not quite
Wireless is very good, but for both (we ordered 2) neither one had a working side button. Too bad too, I had looked forward to being able to use the "back" function.
66 Sticking with ball mouse for now
I have the non-optical version of this mouse that I bought 1 year ago and love it - I've been cordless for 5 years now, both mice from Logitech. The only jerkiness or problems I've ever had is when the batteries are near death, which is about twice a year. I do a lot of CAD work, and the mouse is very precise. Due to other ratings here, I think I'll hold out for the next generation optical cordless, since this one from Logitech is too small (I tried it in the store), & the MS wireless Intellimouse seems to be full of typical MS bugs.
67 Convenience Luxury
I was a DOS (Wordperfect 4.0) hold-out for an embarassingly long time, in large part because I don't really like using a mouse. The Cordless Mouseman Optical goes a long way toward alleviating my mouse hostility, and, in retrospect, it's surprising that that it wasn't available years ago. The combination of wireless operation and padless optical technology allows me to keep the mouse in a comfortable working position all the time, anywhere in my office, no matter where my keyboard is or how messy my desk is. It seems like a small convenience, but it actually has improves the quality of my daily work life in a significant way, so I highly recommend it. Also, I'm left-handed, and I use my mouse left-handed. Although this model only comes in one (presumably right-handed) design, I find it comfortable to use left handed as well.
68 Comparing Logitech and Microsoft
I know why your here. You don't know which to choose between Logitech and Microsoft! Well, although I have only tried the Logitech, I'll give you what I know. Firstly, the weight, I do believe however that the Microsoft is slightly heavier, and does stick to plastic mousepads or smooth surfaces, (even my logitech does a bit), due to this fact, my Logitech will sometimes drag, and cause you to click in the wrong spot, off by a few millimeters, but this friction is very, extrememly insignificant, and only picky people will pick it up, like me. Second, the Microsoft, I have heard many complaints about the battery life on it, and some people have said that it barely lasts 2 weeks, and others say 4 weeks. Now only 1 person that I have known has complained about Logitech, and they have guarenteed that to last for at least 2 months, if not 3 months, which is great! For me, that is one thing I look alot into, I hate to waste and is very conservative. Also, many people have complained about Microsoft's mouse making high pitched chirping noise, and has been comfirmed by another review to only happen a few days after the battery is in place. But think about it, you replace your batteries every 2 weeks (not all), and for a couple days you get an annoying high pitched sound, I coulnd't stand it! Anyways, both Logitech and Microsoft are designed for the right hand, and in my preference, they feel both quite nicely, but if I were forced to choose the design, I would go with the Microsoft, but I do not like where their 4th button is placed. Logitech's is closer to create less movement for those lazy people (yah!). Continuing on, people have also complained about Logitech's design of the buttons, I find them extremely comfortable, but others don't. That will be your call. Now the scroll, I would prefer Microsoft, because they have a softer scroll, and Logitech is more of a click, but either is fine. And I don't know if it is a defect, but the Logitech mouse's scroll is a bit weird, when I scroll once, it sometimes doesnt work, and I have to scroll down 2-3 times before moving 3 lines down. I don't really like that... Now Microsoft has said to be more precise, but really, it is not noticable, they both have different technologies for this, and both work amost the same. There's not much more to say, I've gone over almost all the research you need to purchase and decide. Personally, I would choose the Logitech, simply because, Microsoft has a few problems, and Logitech's problems are very minor, and like I said, only picky people really find it out. Besides the scroll, which is annoying, it works extremely well. Oh wait I forgot the range. Logitech is highly underrated! They say 6 feet, yah right! More like 20! It works from downstairs, the next room, and even under and through blankets! It has an amazing range, and could not be improved. I don't know about Microsoft however. If you are picky, you should try both, but get the Logitech one first, and if you don't like it, switch it. I really would like to try both and make a decision however, but I don't have any more money... :( So the choice is yours, but I highly recomend the Logitech. This product recieved 4.5 out of 5. 70 Precision is an Issue!
I bought this mouse since April of this year (2001). This is my first cordless mouse that I have, and let me tell you is fantastic having a mouse in which I do not have to worry about the length or some problems caused by the cord of my old mouse. I am only giving this mouse three stars due to the following:
1) The signal of the mouse with the base station sometimes is lost, if you aren't pointing the mouse directly to it. That means that you always have to be pointing to the base in order to have full signal.
2) The batteries die very quickly and the mouse is heavy when it has the batteries in it.
3) Is not very precise during fast moving or in first-person shooter games (Deus Ex, Unreal Tournament, Max Payne, etc.).
If you are a gamer or graphic developer, don't buy this mouse. For everyone else, if you have (the money) to spend, is an average choice, but I would recommend for (a little) more buying Microsoft Wireless IntelliMouse Explorer. Microsoft Mouse are known by their accurate and precision and I have a Microsoft IntelliMouse Explorer in my other computer and it has worked excellent. Read the reviews and you will find out!
71 Look ma! No cords
This is a great mouse. You have to enjoy not dealing with mouse cord issues. My receiver is about 5' away, and I have no problems. I loved configuring the side and top mouse buttons to behave in a way that makes sense to me. The ergonomic design is nice. It's comfortable, though as a personal preference I'd choose a slightly longer body. Further, the extra 2 buttons are placed such that they are easy to access, but I don't hit them by accident.
72 I LOVED It.... Until the batteries died a week later
I think this product is GREAT, besides the fact that it just eats batteries. Im not sure if its because its an optical mouse or what, but it just eats them alive. As if it matters, the range was amazing, as I was able to operate my computer located in the top floor of my house from down in the basement.
I tried buying top of the line rechargeable batteries but it just ate through those in less than a week. Oh well.
73 Slick as a cat's ...wait, is that a mixed metaphor?
This "wee, sleekit beastie" to quote from Robert Burns, is one slick mouse. I already was a big fan of the Logitech cordless mouse, but the OPTICAL cordless mouse is even better. No cord to drag on your wrist, a vastly improved optical base that beats any other optical mouse I've tried, this is the BEST mouse I have ever used.
It's slightly larger than the original cordless Logitech mouse, which is an improvement. It has nicely sculpted sides for a comfy grip. The color is a cool silver with trendy translucent dark blue. The receiver has been redesigned to look like half a mouse (not the old, dull beige box, this is also done in the same translucent blue.)
Looks real good, works better.
74 Highly Overrated
After almost entirely positive reviews, I picked up this product and was very disappointed. First off, the included software crashed my windows XP professional, although Logitech has apparently resolved this issue now.
This is the only mouse I have ever used or seen in which the buttons don't go to the edge of the mouse. They are very small and closed off, which made use uncomfortable. The mouse itself is slow and imprecise (ONLY 1500 pictures per second compared to 6000 from Microsoft's new mice) and extremely frustrating when using Photoshop, games, or any demanding app. the unit is overpriced, heavy and the side button is placed awkwardly...
I hate to sound like a corporate shill, but the new Microsoft Wireless Intellimouse Explorer, which I now own, is a far superior unit (4x the pictures per second, better DPI, better design and feel, better included software). Sorry Logitech, better luck next time!
75 Outstanding!
I have never used a cordless or optical mouse before, but I can't believe there is a mouse better than this one! Set up was too easy with WinME. I didn't even have to reboot to get it too work. The ability to plug it into either the USB or PS/2 port makes it extremely versatile. The buttons are right where they need to be. The optical sensor makes its control amazing. It took a little bit of time to make full use of cordlessness of it, but after a few days, I already feel confined when I use my corded mouse at work. No more cleaning rollers for me!
76 Some incompatibilities, but good mouse
I enjoy using this mouse. It works well no matter how I have it positioned and the response seems instantaneous. If there is a lag, I can't observe it. The side button is a bit awkward to reach but not too big a problem. It feels fine and the buttons and wheel are not too sensitive. I have not had it long enough to comment on battery life. I am also not a gamer so I can't comment on it's suitability for gaming.
I'm looking forward to never having to clean another mouse and I don't miss the cord one bit. Although I find that sometimes I have to look for my mouse the same way I have to look for my TV remote.
The price was a little high, but it was the only optical, cordless I could find at this time.
If you are using a port replicator like a KVM switch to share this mouse with multiple machines or if you need to use an mouse extension cable for the receiver unit, be aware that they do not work with this mouse's driver software. I found this from experience and from research on the Logitech support site. I am able to get the mouse to work with the Microsoft PS2 (Intelliport) driver however. I'm not sure what features I lose because I typically just use the scroll wheel and 2 buttons (which work fine in this configuration). You can also adjust the mouse pointer speed, double click speed and assign a function to the thumb button and scroll button.
Overall, I would have to recommend this mouse if you are looking for a cordless....I've had the mouse for 6 months now. It's still going strong. I've replaced the batteries about 3 times--I'm on my fourth set. I use the mouse for 8 hours a day, 5 days a week and some on the weekends and I'm getting more than a month per set--which I find acceptable.
I don't know what I like best, cordless or optical. Both are very convenient. I highly recommend this mouse if you can justify the cost.
77 Best cordless mouse in the market
I had been sitting on the fence about getting an optical mouse for quite some time. It is really hard to justify buying a $70 mouse; specially when there are so many models available.
I had been trying different models for several months and have to admit that this one not only feels right due to the ergonomic shape for right-hand use, it is well built.
Some other features I like is that it has 800 DPI (dots per inch) resolution, which makes it very acurate.
The short setup instructions are a must read, specially to have the wireless base detect the mouse. Luckily they are straight forward and easy (although small print) to read.
I have not yet tested this mouse for gaming but so far the response time is very fast (under Win2K using the USB port.) The instructions also point out that it works best on light matte surfaces, which might explain the complaints from other reviewers; it works just fine on printed fabric also.
Another feature I like is the third button close to the base. (the desk.) This makes it easier to grab the mouse without having to be overly cautions about clicking extra buttons like some models from the competition.
Highly recommended!
78 Buy this mouse
If a mouse can be amazing, this one is. When I got it I never thought it could make this much of a difference. It works smothly and flawlessly. The fact that it is cordless makes zero effect on performance. The only complaint is that the right click button is too small. I used to have a MS Intellimouse and my middle finger would hang over the side of the mouse to right click. On this mouse there is dead space there. I guess I will get used to it. There is only one additional button from a normal mouse on the left side. I have mine set to be an internet back button. I guess it is usefull, but I could live without it. The batteries last forever and there is plenty of warning when they are about to go. In short, a great product...
79 Cordless Mouseman Optical-doesn't work with other logitech
I have generally been happy with Logitechs products in the past, but I can't say I'm even remotely happy or comfortable with this product. I had been using a logitech cordless I touch keyboard and cordless wheel mouse for about 1 1/2 years when first my mouse started acting up and it & the keyboard died. I had another cordless keyboard (same kind as prev) and I went and got this mouse. Well..they don't work together at all. It appears that if you buy them separately they can't be used. It doesn't tell you that anywhere, I had to search online to find out.
So once I hooked up a diff. older (corded) keyboard we got it going. While it moves and responds well optically, it is pretty uncomfortable to use for any more than the briefest period of time. The top and side thumb buttons just don't seem to be in a comfortable, ergonomic position. At least I haven't found them to be. After about a half hour surfing, I find my hand becoming uncomfortable and at times cramping up. I didn't have this problem with the previous cordless logitech. My advice....if you are able to try it out for a while first. If I had, I would have passed on this one and just stayed with the same one I had.
80 Love it
That pretty much sums it up. Have had it at home for about 2 months, and it's in my hand every night and most of the weekend, with no problems. It seems perfect for left-handed people like me, though, and I can't imagine using it with my right hand.
81 Thumb button
Button for your thumb is in the wrong place.
Cordless Mousman had it right. Why was it changed?
Basically, the Cordless Optical thumb button is slimmer and closer to the desk than the Cordless Mouasman. I get pain from trying to bend my thumb to reach the button.
82 Absolutely wonderful!
I just bought this a few days ago and have just fallen in love with it. Above all else, it's just plain cool. The styling is nice, it feels great (I'm left-handed, but I use my right for the mouse, so have no problems with it), and have found only two slight problems with it. 1) Sometimes, when the mouse is moving across a surface with no contrast (my mouse pad, in this case), it has a hard time reading the movement. solution: ditch the mouse pad. 2) Yes, since it is a wireless mouse, I have seen a tiny bit of lag in playing Starcraft. HOWEVER, it almost always occurs during the loading of the game/scenario, and NOT during gameplay. Also, when the computer is doing lots of processing (ie during startup, opening a gigantic Java applet), there is a bit of lag.
Otherwise, it's perfect! One last note: I have a shelf next to my comp desk that's about 2 feet higher. I put the receiver up on the shelf, and did a range test on it. It worked fine from about 18 feet away (no kidding). Now THAT'S range.
I would recommend this product to anyone who is in the market for a mouse- and even anyone who isn't. Great job Logitech! I will be purchasing their wireless keyboard within the next few days.
83 Best.
Some say that this mouse isn't one for gaming, but I beg to differ. I am an avid gamer, and bought this mouse for my laptop (hehe, Dell Inspiron 8000...)and all I can say is it's the best, and it dosnt look half bad either.
For games it takes a few minutes toget used to, but I find it real easy once you get used to moving it. (I think the slight oddness was from the added weight and the friction change.) If this bothers users, they can simply set the mouse sensitivity up or down.
Not only that but it has a five year warentee (like you'd need it)
I would recommend to anyone, ANYONE, to buy this mouse. You won't regret it.
84 Optical + cordless....wow!
I liked the cordless Logitech that came with my new Dell, but I have been a fan of optical since it came on the market, and upgrading to the combination of cordless + optical is Nirvana.
85 One fantastic USB Wireless device!!
I have purchased several Logitech mice as replacements for the OEM units (I have both Macs and PC's, and plenty of both), and I have always been very happy with them.
This mouse is fantastic. The feel of it in my hand is great. The positioning of the buttons is great. The feedback (i.e., the "clickness" of them) is perfect. The wheel has a great, subtle but still responsive feel to it. The responsiveness of the cursor is great too. So hardware wise, the thing is great.
Software, it is *also* great! I just plugged it in to my Powerbook G4, and started mousing! No drivers needed, or anything like that. It was a real snap to install, and it works perfectly.
One additional note. I am a huge guy. I am 6'5" tall and I have big hands. Some of the other Logitech mice are too small for me, or shaped so that it is very uncomfortable for me to use them all day. This mouse is shaped "just right" and is a perfect fit for my hands (although the finger buttons are a little too close together for me).
Definite A+ product, and an excellent buy at twice the price. Buy one for _each_ of your computers.
86 It's about time
For a few months, I bemoaned the fact that nobody was taking the obvious step of giving users both cordless flexibility and optical precision.
Logitech was the first to pull it all together, and they've done a really good job. The mouse is comfortable in the hand, with nice curves and reassuring heft. It feels solid in every aspect: The firm, springy response of the buttons matches nicely with the unusually--and pleasantly--resistant feel of the scrolling wheel.
I can't think of anything I'd change to improve on this mouse. The weight, the solidity, and the free movement all combine to make a mouse that just feels right.
87 Gaming vs Office/Home USe
This mouse is great for home and office use. The fact that you don't have to clean the thing is quite refreshing, but do not buy this mouse for a gaming machine. Cordless and optical mice are terrible for gaming. If your looking for a gaming mouse I suggest one of the Razor mice, for anything else I suggest this mouse. On a final note if your worried about it sucking alot of battery power and having to replace the batteries every week fear not. The mouse goes into a type of sleep mode that saves battery power.
88 GOOD MOUSE!
It's been 1 month since I got the Mouseman Optical, cordless mouse: IT'S TOUGH)dropped twice with no damage IT'S accurate, easy to use, comfortable,+takes very little getting used to,plus really like the scroll wheel! COMPLAINT:The ad that comes up if you push the scroll wheel(I don't!)
89 Good product. Easy installation :)
Based on the reliability of logitech input devices I decided to buy this cordless optical mouse since I was going to ditch my Microsoft Intellimouse. The mouse never fell short of my expectiations and it works very well. However, if you're running W2K Pro SP2 then you should download the latest mouseware on the logitech website. I personally didn't find anything wrong with it, and I'm having tons of fun controlling my mouse from anywhere else buy my mousepad. The features of the softwares were easy to use, and the ergonomic shape gives it added comfort. I noticed that for gaming it's still ok at least Diablo II and Starcraft-brood war works great. Not any slower than my ps2 mouse. The fact that this mouse doesn't have a cord, is great for my confined computer desk. I strongly recommend this great product.
90 The Most Complete Mouse on the Market
I loved my last optical mouse, but my oversized desk made the wire wrap around the back, which, in turn, left me reaching forward everytime I moved the mouse. And I didn't want to get a wireless mouse, because, as the saying goes, "Once you go optical, you can never go back." (It's true, the old mouseball pales in comparison.) So I jumped at the chance to try a wireless AND optical mouse. And there wasn't a fear factor, because it's made by Logitech - people who know how to make mice. And let me tell you - it performs beautifully. As for the other reviews: it's not made for left-handed people, so that 1 star rating is invalid. I don't game, and I don't imagine most PC users do, and I don't see a lag anyway. Bottom line: This is the perfect mouse for right-handed non-gamers.
91 What a Mouse!
I just got my Logitech MouseMan Optical Cordless Mouse! Rushed home from work to hook it up...Setup was soooo easy! This mouse is the answer to a prayer! I have always hated fighting with the stupid wire... I had a Logitech 3-button mouse, and it was wonderful, except for the wire. I stayed up way past my bedtime last night, just playing with this thing!! I can't tell any difference in the response time, and it is so easy to move around. I was prepared to like it, but it is actually better than advertised..It feels very stable under your hand. I would highly recommend this mouse to anyone! Do yourself a favor, and buy one! At least put in on your wish list! As always, thanks to Amazon.com for the very speedy delivery! Jenny Martin
92 Convenience is Priceless
This is a very good mouse. I already had wireless keyboard, and adding this to my collection not only cleared some space on my desk, but it works magnificently. Some of the other reviews that say the range of this mouse is bad, are mistaking. I haven't had one problem with this mouse, and I recommend it to anybody who asks. So what are you waiting for, One-Click this puppy now and live the same convienence that I am enjoying right now!
93 It's got me, a left-hander, completely satisfied
What I really wanted to use for precision photo-editing was a massive trackball, so I bought the Kensington Turbo Mouse Pro. That is a great trackball. Unfortunately, I found it to be unreliable (one of the rollers soon stops working in one direction) and I returned two of them. The third is still sitting in the box unopened because in the meantime this Logitech Cordless MouseMan Optical came out and I've found it to be so satisfying and precise that I haven't gotten around to unpacking my third Kensington. Who needs to with this? It's extremely accurate and precise and I can set the ballistics precisely with the software so that it zips across the display if I have to move fast and moves a pixel at a time for photoediting when I move it slow. Note also that I am left-handed and do not find that its obvious right-hand orientation is a bother. Got used to its "funny shape" for a left-hander in under a minute.
94 Great product; far superior to Microsoft's optical mouse
I received this as a gift. I already had the Logitech cordless keyboard/mouse combination, and had been very pleased with them. So I really didn't see any need to change, but was assured I'd like the optical mouse a lot more than the cordless MouseMan. Sure enough, I'm now a total convert to the optical mouse. I was pleased to discover that it worked fine with the Logitech cordless receiver I already had in place for the cordless keyboard/mouse, so I didn't have to change any connections. The software is basically the same that I had been using with the cordless MouseMan. That was my only problem: I found that with the optical mouse, certain mouse functions didn't work properly in AOL 6.0: for example, it failed to let me access the pull-down menu for recently visited places, and the pointer did not automatically jump to the default button. I finally uninstalled the Logitech mouse software (not the driver) and installed the latest version of Microsoft's Intellipoint mouse software (download from Microsoft.com), and that took care of the AOL problem.
I love the weight, shape, and general feel of this mouse. I am left-handed, and find that the slight elevation on the right side is not nearly as noticeable as other ergonomic mice. I prefer a mouse with extra weight, especially since it's not corded, but these are personal preferences and if you like a super-light, flat mouse, this isn't for you. I agree with the reviewer who said that the buttons were a bit on the small size, and that they could have more space between them, but I still prefer this mouse to all others I've used. I am using it on a light-colored wooden work surface, and I've had no problems at all.
95 Best mouse availible on the market!
Hello, I would strongly suggest anybody who needs acuracy combined with cordless technology get this mouse! It is perfect! I needed an optical mouse for work with Visual Basic. My mouse the came with my computer is the worst mouse I have ever seen! They have four buttons on the mouse. Your standard right and left buttons, along with a Web Wheel and a thumb button which I use as an Internet Back button. You can fully customize all of the buttons. The battery life is wonderful. It looks so cool! The only gripe I can think of is that the right and left click buttons are kinda close together. But I can live with that! You can ever surf with the mouse of your leg! This is a must buy for anybody looking for accuracy and cordless technology!
96 Definitely not for gaming
I picked up one of these mice awhile back. I had been eyeing both cordless and optical mice for some time, but had been unable to decide which to buy. When I saw this in the store I bought it immediately, thrilled that my dilemma had been solved. A week later I had returned it, very disappointed. As good as this mouse is for regular computer usage (browsing the web, getting around in Windows), it is definitely not a gamer's mouse. In several games I tried the mouse tracking speed was EXTREMELY high and couldn't be adjusted, either by in-game settings or by Windows settings. There's also a slight lag time between movement and on-screen response. Also, the optical light is off-center due to the placement of the battery compartment, making it inaccurate if you twist/swirl the mouse around a lot when gaming. However, those are minor problems compared to the biggest problem--using two relatively large batteries, the mouse is not only bulky, but quite heavy. This makes it hard to make quick movements in games, both because it's harder to get moving and harder to stop moving than traditional mice.
All in all it's a nice casual user product, and I applaud Logitech for finally putting two new mouse technologies together at last--but I definitely would advise against buying this if you're going to be doing serious gaming. While it's a fantastic upgrade if you just use Windows programs, the unresponsiveness, tracking speed problems, and bulky/heavy design make its gaming performance far below average.
97 Not for Left Handers
Don't bother to order this mouse if you use your left hand to control the mouse. The picture is deceiving in that it appears as if it is universal in its use for right or left hands... not so. It is significantly higher on the left side with a thumb button [pinky if using your left hand] which is very uncomfortable for left hand use.
98 Horrible
Maximum range is suppose to be 6 feet. It was six inches for me. I returned the first one and tried again. Exact same thing. I already have the cordless keyboard and mouse from Logitech and they work great. This product needs much more work. I tied this product on smooth, rough, dark and light surfaces all with negative results.
99 Logitech has revolutionized the pointing device.
This mouse is the first of a new era; I'd be willing to bet that in 5 years, cordless optical devices will be the standard for new computer systems. At least three other hardware manufacturers- including Microsoft- are suddenly scrambling to catch up with Logitech's cordless optical mouse.
And no wonder! The performance of this device is simply AMAZING. With 800 DPI resolution, it's twice as precise as most other optical mice, and the difference in accuracy is immediately apparent. A high-resolution mouse is a real boon to anybody, but it's especially vital to graphic artists, web designers, or gamers. The response and sensitivity of the Cordless Mouseman Optical is incredible; I couldn't imagine going back to my old mouse.
This is the first cordless mouse I've ever owned. I really didn't think that a cordless would make a big difference. I was wrong- I simply had never realized how limiting a corded mouse is. Although the documentation says the mouse should be placed within 6 feet of the receiver, I've found it works reliably out to a good 10 or 12 feet- I suddenly have freedom to move. The fact that I no longer have an unsightly cord snaking back to the computer from the mouse is icing on the cake.
The mouse does require batteries, of course, but Logitech thoughtfully includes a pair in the box. Thanks to smart power conservation, you'll only need to replace the batteries every six weeks or so. (I personally use NiMH rechargeables.) A word of warning: As with any mouse, one size may not fit all. This is definitely a right-hand mouse, so if you prefer to use your left hand, you may be out of luck until a left-hand model is released. I thought the shape and button placement were perfect, and I didn't find the mouse to be too heavy or too large (I have fairly small hands myself), but your comfort zone may differ. "Try before you buy" is a smart consumer's watchword.
Once you become accustomed to this mouse, ordinary mice really do start to seem rather primitive. Even my mother, a devout technology-hater, wants one for her computer. If you only buy one upgrade for your computer this year, it should be a Cordless Mouseman Optical.
100 Exceeds it's own specifications!
I first owned a Microsoft optical mouse before purchasing this one from Logitech. Once I used the optical mouse, I knew that I was completely sold on this superior technology (compared to the standard ball mouse). Extremely smooth and accurate.
Once I saw that Logitech had combined this same technology (optical tracking) with wireless...I just had to give this a shot. Man...was I more than pleased after I hooked it up and used it for the first time.
One of my concerns was the distance that it would operate at. I use my computer screen as a TV as well (ATI graphics tv tuner) and basically lay back in my bed while watching TV through the computer. However, I would always have to climb out of bed to shut the computer down...when you are drifting off...even this little chore can be a pain.
Well, the Logitech cordless/optical mouse had no problem communicating with the RF receiver...even well beyond the 8ft. that it is rated at. In fact...it worked flawlessly from about
30ft!! I also have the monitor display going out to my 35" TV screen in the livingroom via a S-Video output from the ATI All-In-Wonder graphics card.
I was able to sit in my recliner in the livingroom and navigate the cursor through the Logitech cordless/optical mouse without any hitch! Again...the distance is at least 30ft.
This is one product that exceeds it's own rated specs!
Not too many products that do that now-a-days!
