You can save time by programming the buttons for shortcuts. You can also enjoy easy scrolling without scrollbars. It works on either a PS/2 serial port or a USB port and is compatible with PC and Mac computers.

Logitech backs this product with a five-year warranty.

1 Awesome mouse!
I purchased this mouse in June 2001, and it keeps on trucking. The most reliable mouse I have ever used. I am a heavy gamer so it went through a lot of utilization, but it's still responsive and solid.
2 Best Mouse Ever
I have had this mouse for over three years and I must say that it is the greatest peripheral device I have ever owned in my life! The blue color is amazing and the glowing light is uber-cool. It may look awkward in the picture, but it looks much more sleek in person and feels perfect in your hand. The side button is basically useless and soon forgotten, though it can be programed to do one of several tasks. The responsitivity is top notch - the advantage of this over a wireless mouse is that even the best Microsoft wireless will occasionally loose contact with the receiver and they require batteries, so if you don't absolutely need a wireless, get this corded one or check out the Logitech wirelesses.
3 Best mouse out there (if you can actually find one!)...
I have this mouse for my main home computer and love it. The fit of the mouse is the best I've felt compared to all the mice I've owned. It is a very ergonomic mouse and responds very well due to the optical mouse technology instead of outdated mouseball technology. The buttons really feel like they respond when you click them. I love using this mouse for my everyday web surfing, for gaming, and for work. It is not that expensive, either. I bought mine for only about $30, and it is worth every penny. The only problem is that this mouse is hard to find these days. You may have to resort to looking for it at online shops. You can try your luck at Best Buy, Circuit City and other big electronics stores, but it seems like they don't carry this one anymore since Logitech has a wireless MouseMan that has replaced it. :(
4 Works with Macintosh
Try using USB Overdrive instead of the supplied software.

Once you use a wheel, you can't go back.

5 Great for Everyday Use
This is a great mouse, as long as you're not a gamer. For everyday stuff, it works fine. The mouse has a sleek shape, fitting perfectly in your hand, and the thumb button is very convenient. The software that comes with the mouse is easy to install and makes it easy to configure the buttons for whatever you want to do. The wheel itself is a little loose--it's very easy to press unintentionally when you're trying to spin it--but it's okay as soon as you get used to it.

The optical component of the mouse is what makes it unsuitable for gaming. If you move the mouse too fast, the pointer bounces across the screen and usually comes to end up almost right where it started. This erratic response makes it impossible to play games that require mouse movements, such as RTS games, or Quake.

6 The King Is Dead. Long Live The King!
When the original, non-optical MouseMan Wheel came out a few years back (it was green and white, as I recall), I remember thinking it looked really strange and cool--and seemed a little expensive.

Then I tried it. Wow, what a mouse. These things have the best shapes of any mice I've ever worked with, bar none. The newer optical version listed here is basically the ultimate mouse, in my opinion. Scrolls very smoothly, has 4 programmable buttons (although I generally just use 3 of them, with the thumb button set to "Back" in my Internet browser), and generally just feels wonderful to use.

For whatever reason, this very excellent mouse is no longer being produced by Logitech, which I really can't understand. I've never had one break, they seem reasonably popular, and the shape of the new MouseMan optical mice just doesn't cut it (even though I've got one of them, as well--couldn't find one of the above, and needed a mouse in a hurry, you know).

I suspect that these mice will develop a cult following now that they have been discontinued. They are that good. Bottom line is that if you use a mouse on a daily basis and don't want to go fully carpal, you owe it to yourself to find one (or more) of these mice and use it.

7 EEEEEPPPPPP! This Mouse Roars!...
I received this mouse as a gift and I like it. It fits my hand perfect (as a right hander.) If a left hander were to use my mouse they would find it very uncomfortable (if using with their left hand.) The thumb button is great to re-program for games. The wheel is smoother then the Microsoft Optical counterpart.

I use the keyboard whenever possible for shortcut keys but some activities such as surfing the web and playing games can be greatly enhanced by having a good mouse. This mouse has fulfills all the needs I have.

Optical is the way to go if you spend large amounts of time at a PC. It avoids the snags and slowdowns of non-optical mice. The optical logo is nice if your in the dark (and your monitor goes to sleep) so you can quickly grab the mouse and active the monitor.

This is a great affordable mouse. It's a must get if your still using a non-optical or non-wireless mouse!

8 Great mouse but maybe not for games
A solid mouse which I use with my laptop, often running it over my couch, a chair, my leg, etc. without a problem. It glides smoothly and accurately at moderate speeds, but I'm not sure I'd use this as a gaming mouse: it has a tendency to jump if you move it REALLY quickly, as you might in a game. Of course, you'd never have to move it that quickly when working with other applications, and for that purpose it's more than adequate. This mouse is a real pleasure, and I like the software. I'd never go back to a standard, non-optical mouse, except possibly for use with games. The only time I encountered a real problem was when I plugged it into the PS2 port on my laptop. It made the cursor hop all over uncontrollably (the mouse was essentially useless). I tinkered with the software but to no avail. A switch to the USB port using the adapter fixed the problem, though I'm not sure what I would have done had I needed to use the PS2 port. I should note I never cotacted Logitech about the problem, so they might have been able to fix it. Overall a great, comfortable, solidly constructed mouse.
9 go mousey!
i've been using this mouse for a year or so and i've never had a problem with it...

the design makes this mouse very comfortable to hold, and for those reviewers saying they're more comfortable holding the mouse with their fingertips and resting their wrists on the desk/mouse pad...every now and then when i feel like reclining i hold the mouse with my fingertips and i'm fine, it's very comfortable, no matter how i hold this mouse it feels comfortable...

the blue light on the mouse looks cool, i like the way it glows when it is dark...and the light does NOT get warm at all...i dont even notice it...

the scroll button is perfectly positioned at the tips of my fingers so it is easily accessed...i have only noticed it lag once or twice, the only time the scroll ever really messes up is in ACDsee when im scrolling through pictures...the thumb button could be useful but i dont ever use it really, most of the time i forget its there, but sometimes i use it for various tasks (such as copy, cut, paste, ctrl, shift, F5 [very useful for people who program with ms visual c++ because F5 = compile], etc)

this mouse responds very quickly and does not ever jerk...and its not expensive at all...all in all, this mouse is a great buy...why dont you own one already?? =P

10 NOT PERFECT, BUT VERY GOOD
I bought this mouse to replace the generic one I received with a new PC. I had gotten used to the wheel at work and wanted something similar for home. I've had it for several months and was impressed enough to buy a second one. Getting rid of the ball was very important. A clean mousepad is no longer required.

The length fits my palm but in the end that turned out to be unimportant. I now use a fairly high wrist rest an operate the device with my fingertips. The driver interface is somewhat overkill. I like my buttons to be traditional. Making the wheel a third button is a nice feature. I do not use the thumb button.

Once in a while on a glossy surface or a dark room, the cursor will drift at my home machine's startup. Right-clicking tends to recover focus. I don't know if this is an Windows Me or a driver problem. I have not experienced this on my Win2000 PC.

11 Life is nice
Life is nice with a mice.

Buy it.

12 in depth review
I bought the Mouseman optical after reading lots of reviews. I am very pleased with it. I have tested it in unreal tournament and it works very well except for a few scroll wheel issues which can be fixed with a patch. I am one of the flick gamers and I found no problems with the mouse other then the scroll wheel. The only time the optical camera failed me was when I move it as fast as I can to test it, but you must move it faster then you will ever need to. To achieve the speed to fool the camera you must move so fast you cannot use the mouse for any operation. The mouse shape is very comfortable and fits my hand very well, better then the explorer. Although I like the scroll wheel of the microsoft mice because they feel better I would still go with this mouse because it is better and easier to grip.
The reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 was because of the scroll wheel. When scrolling in internet explorer I found there was a slight lag between I turned the wheel and when the page started scrolling and that the scroll was choppier then the MS mice
13 Clunky
We bought this as a replacement for the cheap-o mouse our PC came with.
Although I like not having to worry about cleaning a mouse ball, I still don't particularly care for this mouse.
I am right handed, altough I can see how this mouse can cause problems for left-handed persons. It is a very thick mouse, with a slant to the right. A left handed user may find this mouse difficult to use.
The main reason I don't like this mouse it that it's too big. I don't know who they made this thing for, but my hand does not fit very comfortably on the mouse. My mother and sister have much smaller hands, so they find this thing even more difficult to use.
Personally, I prefer the good, old (going on 3 years), omni-hand design Logitech track ball mouse I have on my laptop.
14 Mucht better than MS mouse, buy this one!
I've been using many of Microsoft optical mouse products, they are suffering from a serious problem-poor accuracy when high speed moving.Sometimes they may go crazy if you move your cursor a little faster. This mouse is grest, with it's accuracy, ergonomic shaping, and price! The most important thing-no more crazy again!Ideal mouse for gamers and serious users who require a stable cursor.
15 Best Mouse I've Ever Owned
Out of all the mice I've ever owned, this one is, by far, the best. Having been the first mouse I've ever owned that did not need a ball, I was quite impressed by the smooth tracking of the laser-no more skipping mouse ball! Because I travel often to clients my "mousing surface" is not always my trusty clean and gel padded mouse pad... so, I used to have to clean the inside of my mouse every two weeks in order to keep the tracking smooth. It is nice not to have to do this anymore and I can even "mouse around" smoothly using my bed as my mousing surface when I am using my laptop in bed. Also, unlike most mice which are covered entirely by plastic, this mouse is a bit rubberized in two places which provides for an enjoyable tactile feeling... and as for some of the reviews which make comments about the "cool blue" light making your palm warm, this has never happened to me. Forget about all the other mice out there, get this one and you won't be disappointed.
16 Excellent
I love this mouse. The best thing I love about this mouse is that you never have to clean it. The mouse has a good look and feel for a right hander. I do recommend you use a mouse pad with it. After buying this mouse, I will never buy another mouse with a mouse ball.
17 Fantastic
I like this mouse, it's thrid button has nice features and great touch. This optical technology is something great !
18 Great product! Logitech Opitcal Mouse A+
I have been really pleased with the performance and accuracy of the Logitech Optical Mouse. I recommend it to anyone. Easy installation with 2000
19 Great product
Logitech made this mouse great. It is ergonomically designed and setup was a breeze. The tracking couldn't be better, there is no mouse ball whatsoever. The scroll wheel is so convenient as well. However, if you are looking for the ultimate pointing device, go for the cordless optical mouseman - it's only $10 more and also a superb product with all the same features except it is cordless. USB connection is great for laptops, however I use the PS/2 port with my desktop PC. I have used both connection methods without a problem. No one should have ball mice anymore!
20 Ergonomic optical mouse that needs better setup.
I've used both Microsoft's Intellimouse Optical and this mouse. The MouseMan Wheel Optical is superior. My hand is in a more natural position and the thumb button is better positions where it's both in the way, but not so much you find yourself accidently clicking it. This mouse would have 5 stars if I hadn't had to take 3 hours setting it up. The software that comes with the driver installtion doesn't seem to work as it should and it didn't recognize the mouse at all in the USB port. It's worked fine since I plugged it into my PS/2 port.
21 Excellent Mouse
I have always had regular mice that have the hideous "ball" inside of them, and every TWO weeks guarenteed, I'd have to replace it, because I am a very heavy gamer. I use my mice up so quickly, they always break. Anyway, I decided to go with an optical one, but I couldn't decide on this one, or the Microsoft one, because a lot of the people were saying that they didn't like the drivers that came with this one. After receiving the mouse, just TODAY, I feel compeled to review it.

First of all, I hooked it with through USB because my computer has 2 USB ports, and I had TONS of problems with it. The mouse would get "stuck" and wouldn't move, and then it would skip, and when you moved it slow, it would be even worse. After I read the reviews on here, I noticed that someone else was having the same problem but fixed it by connecting it through PS/2. I tried the same, and it fixed it. Now it works excellent.

I would have given this mouse 5 stars, but since it does not work properly in USB, I have to give it 4 stars. Still, the way the pointer moves is much better than anything else I have ever tried.

I hope this mouse last me for a long time.

22 Best Mouse Ever
I use to use a Razer Boomslang 2000 mouse which cost 100 dollars. It was garbage, it started to stick after about 3 months of heavy gaming. What a waste of money. So I decided to get a new mouse, and I chose this one over the Microsoft because of what I read about the Microsoft and how it had problems. This mouse fits my hand like a glove, the light on it is cool, and it works just as well as my 100 dollar mouse in games. It is also very well built. I wouldn't hesitate to pick another one up. Great Product.
23 great mouse bad drivers
The drivers for this sleek and comfortable mouse lack tremendously. In the past couple of months, I have constantly lost one or another function of the mouse at random. After updating the drivers many times and after reinstalling them I achieve full function but only for a short time. Now the question is why buy this mouse if you can't make use of all the functions?! Of course an optical mouse is a great improvement over the former mechanical ones, but you have alternatives to this specific one.I have purchased a similar product (an optical mouse) by Kensington and it works on pc as well as mac without problems and has as many programable buttons.
24 Rebuttal to Electronics Fan
Although I agree with EF's conclusion: a wheel mouse is about as good as the optical mouse, don't be mislead by his knocks on the optical mouse.

- While the Optical MouseMan Wheel (OMMW) mouse does have a glowing tail light, it does not "warm up" the mouse at all (not at least while using your hand as a thermometer).

- Moving the mouse fast only moves the cursor faster (as expected). It does not cause the cursor to jump as EF suggests.

- The OMMW does have finer resolution than its wheel counterpart, but I don't think its higher resolution will be noticed by most users.

- Optical mice DO NOT require friction to operate, roller mice do. You can slightly lift an optical mouse from the mouse pad and it will continue to work w/o friction. They do require a surface that will provide a moderately diffuse reflection. A mirror will not make a good mouse pad for an OMMW.

If you don't like cleaning your mouse's ball and rollers, get an optical mouse.

25 Logitech has done it!
As a veteran user of computers, I have gone through my share of mice. The Logitech optical job is a pleasure to work with. Smooth tracking and an ergonomically friendly design male this product a step up for anyone who is tired of cleaning old style mouse tracking balls and wiping the scum out of the well. Whether you are a gamer or a Net junkie, this product is great! The four programable buttons make this mouse the best I have ever used. Say goodbye to the moving parts problem and buy this product.
26 Pretty good, pricey but a good investment
For the past several years I have been a trackball person. The first trackball I bought was a logitech trackman vista, I instantly fell in love. Then when the Trackman Marble FX came out I bought it.... and I loved it. I've had a FX for the past 2 years and just raved about it... but unfortunately I like to take out the ball and play with it... I dropped it and cracked the ball so it was very hard to use :(.

I decided to go for a mouse about a week ago.... did some research and decided to buy the mouseman wheel optical. I got it today and think it is pretty good as far as mice go, but I still think the Trackman Marble FX is better in that it is more comfortable. If I did not have the tendancy to drop the trackball on the floor and crack it I would have a trackball now... If you want comfortable buy the Trackman Marble FX, but If you are a mouse person get this mouse. It is comfortable, respocive and just plain cool looking ;>.

One problem I have had with the mouse already is in Unreal Tournament.... the wheel does not work... yet anyways.

27 If you can operate a mouse, this is the best!
The reason for my heading is the negative reviews I have seen on this page. I have the Microsoft Explorer at work and the MouseMan Wheel Optical at home. Having to use both everyday, I can say that Logitech wins the battle easily.

I find it amusing that one reviewer commented about how HE operates a mouse. Ergonomic designs are based on the assumption of a more or less average sized hand using it like most people do. I can't use my foot on it and expect Logitech, or Microsoft, to design it for that!

I suggest that before you buy anything from Amazon, go to a computer store in your neighborhood and try out the different designs. Explorer has a very good design but Logitech designs suit my palm better. Some other superior features of Logitech ( in comparison to Explorer) are:

o The optical device is much better that Microsoft for both faster and precise movements.

o I do not like that fact that Explorer does not have any protection where the cord enters the mouse. It actually affects the performance when the mouse is a bit old and the cord is pulled while using.

o The quality of the surface is also much better allowing for a better grip.

o The software is pretty nice with features like WebWheel that allows you to access common internet function using your scoll wheel.

28 Better than MS Explorer? YES!!
Well this is my first Logitech mouse as I have been a major advocate of the MS intellimouse series for a while now and I must say that I am impressed with this mouse. My last mouse was the MS intellimouse explorer (the grey optical mouse) and like the others before it went on the fritz and died on me. Disgusted with the constant dying of my MS mouse I turned to logitech and over the past month I have been nothing but a happy camper with the performance and feel of the "Blue Man" as my wife calls it (beats me why...probably cause of the Blue Men Group).

The advantages I have noticed of the "Blue Man" over the MS optical series is the following. The Logitech mouse is completly more ergonomical than the MS series by a longshot. The comfort and feel of this mouse is outstanding...although may be awkward for a left hand user but less than the old MS series...and the optical camera seems to read faster than the old MS series as well because a vast improvement is immediately noticable from the start in the precision of this mouse. The mouse wheel can be depressed for an additional "menu" screen that allows for quick access to things such as: your favorites list, e-mail,refresh web page, and other nifty ideas that the MS series probably would never have dreamed of.

The downsides to the mouse...There are NO downsides to it. I understand that I have only used this mouse for about a month now but when compared to the compatibility issues and the registry tweaks I had to implement for the MS series the Logitech Mouse is a Godsend.

In response to the "electronics fan" from Canada his statement that " the blue logitech label emits heat" is erroneous. Ok it may technically emit some heat but it is not even noticable even for long periods of use. Also his statement that the cursor will move erratically across the screen if you move it to fast is true if you DON'T adjust the settings. The MS mouse suffered horribly from that and that is one of the great joys of this mouse is its fine customization menu. I experiance NO erratic movement from this mouse at all (I just got done moving it across the screen as fast as I could). However since this is an optical mouse you do not want to place it on a surface that is reflective i.e. glass or a white textured surface since that can interfere with the optical sensor.

Overall I would highly recommend this mouse over the MS optical series due to its increased tracking and precision and the overall general comfort of using this mouse for extended periods (i.e. gaming;-) and since I forgot to mention it above the button click response is SUPERB. I have yet to encounter any problems with this mouse and if I do...well at least Logitech has an easy accesible and available tech support (Microsoft tech support is horrendous for home users).

29 PROs and CONs of the mouse
+ has excellent shape, which repeats the contours of a hand (better than MS Explorer mouse)

+ is enough big and heavy, which brings stability of movements

+ it has a beautiful blue light on top, which magnicifintly glows in a dark

+ precision/resolution of movements is very high

- scroll feeling is different from MS mouses: I like MS scroll wheel more

- 4th mouse button is located exactly under your thumb, so sometimes you press it accidentially (especially when playing)

I have it and I would not trade it for MS Explorer!

30 Step Up
Asked for and received one of these for $mas. It's the only mouse that could possibly be better than my old Logitech Mouseman. If you love the curve shape of Logitech's, you'll be more pleased with the improved non-slick feel of this one. I'll never go back to a ball mouse, and Logitech has continued to earn my business. Nothing but smooth sailing for this happy camper.
31 Very Good
This is a very good mouse overall. It glows, which was a nice surprise, but I don't find that it heats up at all. It fits your hand nicely, and the 3rd button is easily accesible but can not be pushed accidentally. I find the 3rd button is most useful when you set it to execute the back function of your browser. Sometimes, however, for no apparent reason the pointer sticks in one space or moves around on its own. Other than that, it is an nice mouse.
32 Optical what else is there to say.
This mouse is great. I had a mouseman+ previously and was disapointed that I was having problems with the ball in the mouse. No such problem with this mouse. Programable buttons and an ergonomic feel give this mouse superior comfort over its competitors. I had a little problem with the USB connection, the pointer would freeze when I started some applications but using the Ps2 connection instead solved that problem. I highly recommend this mouse for the simple fact that you don't have a mouse ball to clean or take care of. Collecting various mouse pads must have been fun but you can use them as coasters now because you don't need them anymore. Enjoy!
33 AWESOME MOUSE
I absolutely LOVE this mouse. I ordered it a couple of weeks ago, and it is a huge improvement from my old mouse. It is comfortable and it includes four customizable buttons. You can launch your favorite application or do special commands.

Hand cramps are never a problem because there is a soft padding on the sides.

The wheel glides smoothly and you can customize how much it scrolls with each turn.

Have I mentioned that I absolutely love this mouse?

34 Excellent Mouse!
This is the best mouse I have ever used! It has smooth movement, doesn't jump around the screen and all of the buttons are very well placed. The size is absolutly perfect and fits my hand better than any mouse I have ever used. The scrolling wheel is perfect and the thumb button is a great help. You'll never go back to an ordinary mouse!
35 NT 4.0 can not find the mouse connected through serial port
The NT 4.0 could not find the mouse connected through the serial port. I think I will try the Microsoft version.
36 Useless
I bought this mouse fooled by its cool looks and reviews I read (including those here) . And let me tell you , I didn't like this mouse one bit ! Here are the reasons : First of all , it's HUGE , so in order to control it you have to put your entire palm over it coz it has sliders on its very edges and it's a very long mouse that has the optic "camera" in an akward position so if you're not moving both the top and bottom edges simetrically it'll lose precision big time . All the hype about its "natural design" and it being easy to use it just b/s . In order to use this mouse with precision you need to keep your palm on it putting the entire weight of your arm on the mouse . You control this mouse by moving your elbow which I found to be exhausting and I guarantee you that even with best sitting position your arm will get tired after 1 hour of intensive use of this mouse . Personally I'm used to holding the mouse with my fingers while resting my wrist on the mousepad . This way of usage is much more comfortable and I don't get tired after hours of eg. playing quake 3 or picture editing (more precise too) . So if you're using your mouse this way DO NOT BUY THIS MOUSE ! You'll save yourself money and hassle you'll have to go trough returning the mouse and getting a new one . Also when I put my hand on the mouse as described above I have trouble using the right button because my finger goes way over it - so much about natural design :P The last thing that completes this list is a bug that's supposed to be a feature . It's the blue led light on the mouse back that turns on when mouse is working . It produces a very cool efect but the downside is that it heats up like crazy and your palm will be swatting in no time . I can't belive Logitech did such a poor job with this mouse . However I totally recomend you the Logitech Optical Wheel Mouse which is a "younger brother" of this monster . It's a very nicely shaped symetrical mouse , easy to use , great control ... . It's what i'm using now . Hope this review helps someone .
37 Excellent mouse, solid drivers
Logitech makes, in my opinion, the best mice with the most solid drivers. I've been using the Mouseman Wheel Optical for a few months now, and I'm purchasing another one for one of my new computers.

I'm a little surprised at some of the negative comments I've read here. First, unlike what one reviewer mentioned, the blue light on the mouse does *not* get uncomfortably hot; in fact, I don't notice it all. Second, the drivers are much more solid than Microsoft drivers. Through many mice and years, I have never experienced a crash related to a Logitech driver, but I have experienced many related to Microsoft drivers. Finally, in terms of pointing accuracy, I use my Logitech Optical mouse for close work in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop, and pointer movement has been consistently smooth and accurate.

I highly recommend this mouse.

38 MICROSOFT, LOGITECH O.K., BUT......
MICROSOFT & LOGITECH MICE ARE O.K. GENERALLY SPEAKING, BUT THE KENSINGTON OPTICAL MICE ARE FAR SUPERIOR. HAVING OWNED BOTH THE MS.&LOGITECH OPTICAL MICE AND COMPARING THEM TO THE KENSINGTON OPTICALS HERE ARE THE FEATURES I LIKED IN THE KENSINGTON OPTICALS:1. SCROLL WHEEL WAS PRECISE AND SMOOTH 2.MICRO SWITCHES WERE ABSOLUTELY CRISP 3.THE SHAPE OF THE MOUSE WAS PERFECT, AND WILL ACCOMMODATE RIGHT&LEFT HAND USERS.KENSINGSTON MAKES BOTH A 5 & 3 BUTTON MOUSE AND ARE MORE REASONABLY PRICED THAN EITHER MS. OR LOGITECH. ALSO COMES WITH 5 YEAR WARRANTY AND TOLL FREE SUPPORT NUMBER.
39 Optical is awesome, but doesn't scroll well
First of all, the Optical mouse is awesome and I definitely wouldn't go back to the traditional style mouse that invariably stops functioning correctly within 6-12 months if you use it often from dirt build-up. You can never quite get a mouse clean again, so I usually just go buy a new one. Logitech and Microsoft have solved that with there Optical mice, and the precision is everything I had hoped for, which I put to the test during graphics creation and editing. The main problem I have with the Logitech mouse that I chose over the Microsoft (just hate to give them more money if I can avoid it) is that the scrolling middle button works horribly. It will function for awhile, then stop working completely in all applications MS or not. I have to reboot often to restore it to a working state. Logitech's support is standard email response that was of no help whatsoever. I haven't seen any other reviews complain about it, so hopefully my machine is an isolated case. I love everything else about it, but am thinking about returning it and trying the Microsoft version instead...
40 Awesome
This mouse rules! I have two computers and they both needed new mouses. I bought the Microsoft Intellimouse Optical for one and the Logitech for the other. I wish I had bought two of these. The cursor movement is perfect and the mouse fits your hand PERFECTLY! (Unless you're left-handed). I has one extra button on the side that is right where it should be. My complaint about the Microsoft Mouse is that the side buttons are too easy to accidentally click. This mouse has no such problem. The wheel click also has some interesting things it can be programmed to. Great mouse! Buy It!
41 Excellent Mouse! Replacement for my Intellimouse Explorer!
Last December, when optical mouses first came out with the introduction of the Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer, I hopped in buying my first mouse, the Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer. I loved that mouse until one day 8 months later, the mouse starts acting up and eventually stops working. I called Microsoft, but they refused to replace that mouse since it only came with a 3 month warranty. Time to look for a new mouse.

Well, I decided to go with a Logitech mouse this time. After all, I have never had problems with my previous Logitech mouse, and people always complain about Microsoft mice. I found the Logitech Mouseman Wheel Optical, and I fell in love with it!

The mouse feels great on my average-sized hands. The buttons feel great and wheel works great. The positioning of all the buttons, also, is excellent!

The optical part of the mouse itself is much better then the Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer. The mouse reacts much better to fast movements then the Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer. I play an average amount of games, and I have nothing to complain about optical technology. Only in the fastest, fastest, fastest movements, does the mouse not respond. Otherwise, the Logitech mouse responds excellently to fast movements.

The design of the mouse itself is really nice. The dark-blue color looks really nice next to my beige-everything system. Also, the blue "Logitech" glow light on the top of the mouse isn't necessary, but adds the elegant effect to the mouse.

I am very pleased with the Logitech software. Click down on the wheel, and the Wheel Menu pops up displaying useful actions that you can cycle through with the mouse. You can go back, reload, and stop a page, look at your favorites menu, or visit Logitech's new portal site. The side button also is great to function as a back button in a web browser.

Plus, this mouse is on average ($) cheaper then the Intellimouse Explorer. It is built so much better and comes with a 5-year warranty! Now that's what I call quality!

Get this mouse over the Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer. It works better, feels better, and costs less! :-)

42 Too much to be of practical use.
The Logitech MouseMan Wheel Optical is better than the Microsoft IntelliMouse and the Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer in that its fourth button is positioned in a place which makes it hard for the user to click it by accident. The Logitech MouseMan Wheel Optical is also of reasonable size unlike the Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer which is just too big to be comfortable. Compared to the Logitech Wheelmouse Optical the Logitech MouseMan Wheel Optical is heavy enough so that it doesn't tilt sideways when you don't have your hand on it making it a more steady mouse. Like most cordless mice the Logitech MouseMan Wheel Optical does not take batteries and has a glowing red light on the bottom of it which is used to sense motion. However, this right handed Logitech MouseMan Wheel Optical has the following disadvantages which is why I did not buy it:

The blue Logitech label at the back warms up when you turn your computer on and so you have to keep your hand on something hot which I don't think is very nice.

Like most optical mice if you move the mouse too fast in a straight line on any surface including opaque surfaces then the pointer goes crazy and bounces around across the screen loosing control.

If you move the mouse slowly then the precision, despite hype, is not better than that of a good Logitech wheel mouse. Of course the advantage is that you don't have to clean the wheel.

To obtain good results the optical mouse must still be used on a mouse pad which provides the right (needed) friction to move the pointer accurately. And altough you cannot use a regular ball mouse on upside down who really needs to?

The wheel in this particular mouse should probably be a little bit more forward as it did not feel like it was in the right place and my hands are avarage size... not to mention that I find that wheels are in general quite useless and in the way. But I could not dind an optical mouse without a wheel.

And finally no optical mouse is wireless so the cord can still get mangled and cause the pointer to move inaccurately after some use. On the other hand wireless mice require you to change the batteries probably once every month or so and thus cause more trouble than having to clean the wheel.

In conclusion, if the optical mouse was the same price as or even cheaper than a (good) regular ball mouse I would still buy the ball mouse which despite all its trouble is here to stay!

43 An excellent mouse but with some flaws.
My conundrum when purchasing this mouse was whether to purchase the Microsoft one or the Logitech one. I took a chance on the Logitech mouse, and I must say that I have not regretted it. Not only is Logitech mouse less expensive than the mouse created by Microsoft, but it is also of about equal quality. Aesthetically the Logitech mouse looks great, one of the coolest features is the glowing blue Logitech logo on the back to the mouse. Installing it was a breeze, I just plugged it into my USB port and Windows auto detected it and installed the appropriate drivers automatically. Although overall this is a good mouse, it does have some problems. The wheel feels flimsy to the touch and scrolling is a bit difficult. If you heavily use the scroll wheel, you should consider the Microsoft mouse. Although the Logitech mouse does not give you as good a feel as the Microsoft mouse, it is adequate nonetheless. Another thing that you might find difficult with this mouse is getting adjusted to it in the beginning. It takes a while to get adjusted to the shape of the mouse, but after a few days it will feel natural. I would recommend this mouse for anyone seeking a new mouse and is looking to purchase an optical mouse. Once you have tried optical, you won't want to go back to the regular ball mouse.
44 Blue is Better: Logitech's got the idea
In my group of 8 computer friends, 7 use the Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer. One found this mouse, and bought it. I tried it out and compared it to the leading Explorer and was amazed. Of course, the use of a mouse depends upon the user's hand and preferences, but I love this. The contour fits my hand wonderfully, and the grip material on each side is practical and stylish. The buttons give more of a solid 'click' feeling than the loose-feeling Explorer, and the wheel gives more resistance with a more solid turn. As a gamer, I like a solid, stable mouse, and this is the best I have seen (and who could resist the sleek color and pretty blue light!). The one flaw is that the two main buttons do not extend far enough forward - my fingers are a bit long, and their tips reach over the buttons, and I feel that they cut off a little short. It may not be quite five stars, but if it isn't, nothing else out there is! And when we have no 5 star mice, we are in a pathetic state indeed.
45 Top of the line
After using this mouse for a few weeks, and the cordless versions for a few months... I would have to say that this is the best mouse on the market period.

The wheel has improved a great deal since thay have added them to the line up, and the clicks are much more "solid." The weight is simply perfect. Microsoft should look at this mouse very very carefully.

The software that comes with the mouse is the best. I had problems with the mouse driver software on a IBM laptop and 98SE. But after hooking up this new mouse, and installing the softare, all my problems went away. It was just like magic.

The feel, weight, looks, and software make this a must own product if you use a mouse for any period of time. Add web-wheel and surfin' the net... simply awesome! Get it, and enjoy life.

46 Close to perfect
A mouse is a rather personal decision. People's tastes and requirements when it comes to mice (and keyboards) vary greatly upon what they do with their computer.

I tend to be very hard on mice; The Logitech MouseMan Wheel Optical is my third mouse in 12 months. Thus far I am very satsified with it.

The Ups: great feel. My previous mouse was the MS Intellimouse Explorer (the grey one). In contrast, the MS mouse felt very cheap to me. The tactile response on the Logitech is much better (the buttons have a nicer 'click' feel). In fact, the thumb button on the MS mouse broke (stuck ON, of course) which lead me to try this one. How it illuminates was also a nice surprise.

The Downs: Logitech makes a great piece of hardware, but I do not like their drivers as much as the MS mouse. The Logitech drivers do not work in all games the same way as the MS drivers do. Some games do not even register the wheel turning (very disappointing).

Overall: Probably the best mouse out there for the cost (or regardless of cost, for that matter). I love the feel and would recommend this mouse over any other that I've used to this point.

47 One of the best mice around!
I have always been a big fan of Logitech. I previously used a Trackman Marble TOP, and was happy with this mouse for over 5 years. Then I found the Mouseman Wheel Optical, I had to try it!

When it comes to gaming, there just isn't a finer mouse! The buttons provide a good tactile response to mouse clicks, and if your a rightie (sorry lefties) the ergonomic design fits nicely into your hand. And of course being and optical mouse as well as USB you have a high level of precision when it comes time to aim.

Simply put I believe this to be one of the finest mice I have ever used, and there are not enough stars to give this mouse!

48 The BEST Logitech Mouse EVER
This finally got it all together. An optical mouse that works on almost any surface, an extra button in the most logital and ergonomic place - the thumb, which defaults to a double click. And scrolling wheel technology. I have had one now for 5 weeks and it is better than anything I have tried before. Plus it is aesthetically pleasing - deep blue, with blue diode and red optical scanner.

I could not recommend it more highly.

49 Logtech Optical Mouseman - Great Mouse
This mouse is a great mouse. Prefect for gaming, and regular Windows applications. The mouse shape is very ergonomic..at least for right handers. If you are a lefty, don't bother buying this mouse. The LED at the bottom of the mouse it red, but what is kinda neat is on the top of the mouse the Logitech Logo glows blue. It can get annoying when ur trying to sleep and you leave your computer on.. Blue night lamp =) It can freak at out in the middle of the nite. Over all I loved this mouse... plus I never have to clean it. Buy it, you wont be disaapointed.
