The all-in-one controller for online PlayStation 2 gaming. This amazing controller gives you a keyboard and a Dual Vibration controller. The keyboard is compatible with PS2 games using a keyboard.
1 Great idea, but quality may warrant a class action suit ?!?
Best buy had a stack of these at a great price - so I picked one up before reading the other reviews here. I was slightly suspicious, because the tape on the boxes was broken, but none of them had a "returned product" label. Alas, the buttons stick (and somehow deleted my Star Wars Battlefront profile from my memory card!) and the d-pad doesn't work very well. It's amazing to me that this many people could have the same problem with a product from a company like Logitech! I guess this is why the price was so much lower at BB and is why I won't waste my gas money driving back to the store to return it.
2 I finally got what I've wanted
I have to admit it ---- I'm spoiled. I want things the way I want it, when I want it. That's why I wanted this keyboard. Because I wanted to play my PC games the way I wanted to play them.
However, when this product arrived at my house, I realized that it was for PS2 (no, I didn't bother looking at the product details - I just knew I wanted it - not to mention it was USB, so it HAD to work with PC, right??) Anyway, when I plugged it in, logged in, I realized real quick that it didn't work with PC.
However, by the grace of God, I'm blessed with the love of my life, and he reminded me that Radio Shack sells a converter for the Playstation Adapter to USB Adapter, part number 26-304 priced at about $12). I couldn't get there fast enough.
I plugged it in, plugged in both cords (the USB it comes with and the PS-to-USB) and now it works fine... All I have to do now is configure the keys to match the controller that I had, and I'll be back in business.
Some people have complained that they've had stuck keys and various other problems... I'd like to say that my controller must be the one they put together right because I have no problems and I love my keyboard. If you buy it, all I can say is good luck.. and IT DOES WORK WITH PC!!!!
All you real gamers out there, have fun and Be Blessed.
Respectfully,
Carolyn Jackson
3 Bad Quality Control - Good Concept
I recently purchased this keyboard/controller combo and am already on the second. The first had the stuck 'O' button problem right out the box. Took it back and exchanged it for another and it too had the stuck 'O' button. I decided that at the price I paid and the fact that I like the keyboard part that I would keep it. I removed the 20 screws on the rear of the controller and popped the 'O' button back in place. Now it works fine. The analog sticks are very slippery to the thumbs - there are no rubber material to supply grip like on the normal PS2 controller. This is a nuisance and so I don't use the controller.
I would recommend that if you're looking for a decent keyboard and you find this one on sale - get it. Just look at the controller as a bonus item.
4 better then most options out there.. but a substandard produ
I only half heartingly reccomend this item.. solely because there isnt anything comparable out there other than a seperate keyboard .. which usually runs 19.99.. If you can find this item on sale.. i would say if you must.. get it.. its faults..
(all on ffxi as what i have played it on)
the dpad isnt very accurate.. when scrolling numbers in AH it sometimes goes left when i want to go up..
the keyboard is super sensitive.. making me tyyyyyyyyyyyyype like thissssssssssssss.
As i played it.. a few months later... the left stick began to fault.. now it veers to the left almost always.. and will move forward when i am not pushing anything. it, too, doesnt control accuratly
the vibration function will cause it to switch the analog mode off so the sticks dont work.. very annoying.
luckily.. ffxi doesnt require much in the line of exact control... so I am fine with it.. until it eventually completely quits..
the unit would be useless to control a platforming type game that requires more exact control.
To be fair, customer service did offer to fix it.. but who wants to be w/o a controller while already addicted to ffxi?
5 Good idea, bad Quality Control
Like some others here, I'm also on my second Netplay keyboard return that's about to go back with a stuck "O" button. I called Logitech customer support about this issue, and stated they had no reports of anyone else with similar issues. Doesn't sound too promising, so I will probably end up getting my money back. Too bad, as it is a good idea, too - if only the quality control matched the idea.
6 Stay away from this controller
Like someone else, who posted a review here, I went through 2 of these. I ordered one online and when I recieved it both the circle button and d-pad were stuck. I couldn't repair it without taking it apart and I didn't want to do that. I returned it and decided to buy another one.
I purchased a second one at Best Buy and it had the EXACT same problem. I took this one apart and fixed the problem and began to play with it. It's easy to fix once you remove all 20 screws. I suggest if you have the problem to just return it and get your money back.
The analog sticks are slick and they don't have any gripping power like the original Sony controller. My thumbs were sliding off of them during gameplay. I found myself stretching my thumbs a little bit in order to move the stick all the way forward. They probably changed the specs for people who have huge hands.
The 8 direction d-pad is horrible. It's a big circle that is terrible for simple up/down & left/right movement. It's only good if you need 360 degrees of movement. I really hate these circle d-pads because they never have good response. Nintendo has it right with their 4 direction d-pads especially the SNES one.
The vibration feature was a good idea but since the Netplay is so heavy the effects are weak. The keyboard portion of the controller is ok. It's basically a laptop sized keyboard. Seems pretty sturdy but I noticed that sometimes letters would get repeated 3-4 times. Maybe it was caused by some lag. For some reason you can detach it.
Don't buy this. The controller portion doesn't compare to the original PS2 controller and it breaks easily. The buttons get easily stuck and it's a pain to take it apart to fix. Two other people here had the same problems as me so I'm sure it's more than just a bad batch or a coincidence.
It's a shame ASCII didn't make something like this. They are great at replicating original design specs when it comes to controllers. Their GameCube keyboard/controller is awesome and works perfectly.
7 Received Replacement/Works Great
I got a brand new replacement (...)P>It seems the keyboard was out of warranty already, even though I got it new from another retailer (whom I won't buy from again.) Perhaps there was a bad batch of these?
Anyhow, the keyboard is great, and one doesn't have to switch keyboard and controller anymore. It's contoured nicely to sit on one's lap.
My only complaint is that some of the keys could be bigger. Like the tab key, and all the punctuation keys around the return button.
8 Acts like a button is stuck
I too bought this to play with FFXI. At first, I tried to swap the controller with this unit. Immediately it acted like a button was stuck, selecting through all the characters in rapid succession.
I turned the unit off, to start from scratch. Well, I can't even get passed the browser screen. After I select the HDD icon, and hit the "X" button nothing happens.
I don't know if it is because I have an old PS2 or if this keyboard has a defect.
I've emailed logitech, we shall see how that goes.
9 yuck
i bought this... twice
i thought it would be a good idea because i had just bought FFXI and didn't want to alternate back and forth between the keyboard and controller and didn't want to just use the keyboard to control my character
the controller part didn't work... twice
the buttons wouldn't even launch the PS2 viewer. i then launched the game using a regular PS2 controller and switched out controllers with this logitech one, it functioned as if a button was stuck. i tried this with one, it didn't work.
i exchanged it for the exact same thing and it happened again
the keyboard works fine for what its worth, relatively cheap too
i have nothing against logitech, i have a lot of logitech products but i hear their service is terrible. i'm thrilled with the logitech stuff that works but the stuff that doesn't work is a headache and a half
good luck with this thing
10 Great for MMORPGs
I play Final Fantasy XI alot and I find this controller a must buy for those of us who indulge in MMORPGs. It has easy access to all the keys so macros are just a keystroke away. It just makes life easier for these types of games. It would work wonderful for EQOA too. The only gripe I have is that I find it hard to play normal PS2 games with this controller. I usually switch to a regular type of controller for those games. If you love MMORPGs then this is a must buy.
