1 Not very sharp
For close ups, this camera is fine, but forget the zoom. Very out of focus, even after turning the focus ring six ways from Sunday. It just doesn't get sharp. Maybe 5-8 feet is the maximum distance. Outside of that it's too blurry. I also have the $28 Webcam NX and it has a much better picture for distance shots.
The focus ring took some work to get it free. The rubber ring seems to get stuck on the plastic camera body. I managed to get some plastic under it and finally got it to turn, although it still isn't very easy.
The "Face Tracking" consists of zooming in and out to find the person. There isn't any movement of the camera body. For that you have to go up to the next level of Logitec cameras.
Color is very good and there are plenty of automatic and manual settings for light, background, color etc.
Two bases are included; one for hanging onto the laptop and the other for flat surfaces. Both have rubber bases to keep them from slipping. The laptop one is very durable and flexible so you can bend it to fit the edge of the screen or other vertical flat surface. They just snap on so it's very easy to change from one to the other.
If only it were sharper it would be a really nice camera.
2 Nice picture, bad mechanical
I am happy with the picture quality of this web cam. However, the mechanical leaves a lot to be desired
With one day of using it, the camera head started flopping around. Looks like the spring this is supposed to be holding the head on to the base is very weak and after pointing the camera a few times, it became very loose and there is no way to tighten it or adjust it.
I thought I just had a bad one so I exchanged it. When I got the new one home, I was as careful as I can be. But within one week, the same thing happened. It is obviously a mechanical design flaw. The worse part is that the USB cable attached to the camera head is long and thick relatively to the camera. With the camera head being loose, the cable now controls which direction the carmea points to.
This makes the camera almost unusable.
3 novice is delighted
I am a novice web-cam user and I bought this one because of the good reviews here and was delighted. Though I can not offer any comparitive information, I can vouch for its simple set up and the miracle of being able to see and speak with someone via the internet. This cam has good visual and sound quality, I love it!!
4 QuickCam not compatible Window Media Center Edition 2005 OS
Warning to anyone running the Window Media Center Edition 2005 (MCE) operating system - This webcam will not work with any messenger program (Yahoo, MSN, AIM)!
From Logitech Tech Support:
Thank you for your recent inquiry about your QuickCam Pro 4000.
I understand that you would like to know if QuickCam is supported on the Window Media Center Edition 2005 OS.
Unfortunately, I regret to inform you that QuickCam is not supported on the Window Media Center Edition 2005 OS currently. We are not sure when and if this OS will be supported.
I request you to check back at the Logitech website in future for updates that may contain support for the Window Media Center Edition 2005 OS.
I apologize for the inconvenience caused.
5 Good camera but definitely has some drawbacks
This is only my second webcam, so I have limited experience with these toys. Following are my observations (good and bad) after a week of use:
Great image quality for a webcam. It's not fair to compare it to a digital camera...the image is not THAT good. In comparison to my old IBM PC Cam, it's a significant improvement.
Easy to install. Just load the software and plug in the USB cable. Windows XP had no problem getting it up and running.
The software has limited functionality. They do a big push for instant messaging (MSN, AOL, AIM) and the software interface is more like an advertisement for IM than it is for controlling the camera.
You may not get all that is advertised. Mine only came with a copy of QuickCam (the basic software) and did not include ImageStudio (the software with motion detection). When I called their tech support, I was told they do not ship them with ImageStudio anymore, and you have to download that program from their website.
You almost HAVE to have broadband to get full use. The packaged QuickCam sofware was version 8.3.0 and their tech support directed me to the download page to get the latest version (8.4). It was a 31MB download, and they do not make CD's for those of us who don't have broadband. You can get the ImageStudio software from their website, since they don't package it with the camera anymore, but it is a 40+ MB download.
My bottom line...it's a good camera but is pricey. My dream camera would have great image quality and a software package that gave me maximum control over all of it's features. Unfortunately, the software included with this camera is not worthy of the hardware.
6 Very good camera, but not for low light
I bought this camera with the intention of using it as a motion detector security camera. The auto-white balance and auto-exposure works very well, except that at very low light (night with no lights) the camera tries too hard and bumps up the exposure gain beyond its capabilities. The result is a snowy picture, which my motion detection software struggles with.
That said, the camera will be very good for almost everything else. The camera adjust very well to the ambient light conditions, and gives you a clear, sharp picture.
7 Logitech Quickcam Communicate has same claw grip stand
First of all, the black orb webcam version of this one, has the same grip. Go look through the products images. So do not choose this camera just for the grip. This is probably not what you are looking for, unless you want to be able to take photographs above 640 x 420 resolution, zoom or focus, but then you are looking for a pro webcam - and this is the camera you want, but you are not taking advantage of how very cheap Webcams are.
Claw grip that you can bend around almost anything but is especially designed for LCD monitors, has no problem with CRT or desks, is going to prevent us breaking the camera any time soon. The camera is white so does not look as good as HAL from 2001, as per the black Quickcam, but nice all the same. Pity the central camera lens doesn't glow red, ha aha. The black non-pro quickcam looks better I think.
The camera must click into the stand. The directions do not make this very clear and some may be inclined to just let the camera orb rest on the stand, but it clicks into place so that it can bend and rotate on its axis firmly attached to the claw grip. The cable is a direct camera to USB2 that runs about the height of an average person, so if you want it to see further you need a USB2 to USB2 extension. However the cable is adequate for most.
With XP driver installation is crazy at best. Do not use the windows drivers or the webcam may cause Windows crashing. Do not plug in the webcam. Insert the CD. Install the driver software. Then you are prompted to plug in your webcam and follow what Logitech tell you to do. Okay, now you have the camera set so you can take photographs and camera video with it. XP just crashes the cam if you do not use the Logitech drivers.
One last tip. Avoid lighting at the camera directly by using a reading light behind the camera aimed at you. This will boost your image quality considerably. The autofocus is near perfect for the price. You will not have to adjust this camera except to move it around.
In short, get the other black model unless you want zoom, focus and high quality photographic images.
8 No support
Go to their web site. Just TRY and find any mention of support.

9 Great Little Cam!
This is my second web cam by Logitech. The first was the Logitech Zoom, which was a piece of junk. After hours of frustration, grainy picture, and sparadic connection, I took it back.
The Pro 4000 is a dream! I paid 100.00 dollars for it and don't regret it at all! The picture is great, very clear, and there is little delay, so I don't look like something from an old 40's movie or under a strobe light. The microphone is good for videos, I haven't tried it with Yahoo Messenger yet.
Everyone has been so impressed with it, saying how clear my picture is. No more falling out of bed without raking a brush through my hair,or washing my face, and logging on! This camera is far too clear for that! I have had great fun with this cam, making videos, sending to friends and enhancing chats with family and friends out of state. I love it. I gave 4 stars only because the instructions aren't very good and you kind of have to play around with it to figure things out, but even that is not difficult. I really recommmend this cam. I don't know why some folks have had any problems with this cam, but I understand thier frustration because I went through that with the Logitech Zoom. BUY THIS CAM AND BE UP AND GOING IN LESS THAN 10 MINUTES....
10 Bad choice for computers over 12 months old
I bought this camera for my P4 HP laptop (xz295). It crashed the computer 6 times and froze the video after 2 seconds. I am returning it now. Check the logitech.com user forum before buying this camera to make sure your computer will work with it. I have heard good and bad...my story was terrible...
11 Best low-cost webcam (still)
The QuickCam Pro 4000 debuted on Amazon on Aug. 2, 2002. So one word to describe it is "mature" ... which is a nice way of saying a bit long in the tooth by anyone's technology standard. You could also say it has stood the test of time, is stable, whatever. Hey, if it wasn't getting the job done it wouldn't (still) be racking up sales and revenue for Logitech and Amazon, would it? It's the Energizer Bunny of webcams!
After nearly two years of use, two words to describe me are "satisfied owner."
A picture is worth 1K words and it's nice to have a face to go with a web chat or business presentation. I like the way it works with Yahoo! Messenger and WebEx, and the grandparents on the East Coast certainly enjoy getting a look at their West Coast progeny once in a while.
Setup on XP Pro was easy enough, although I did download the latest drivers online prior to install (always a good idea). The resolution via USB 1.0 is decent, the zoom and face-tracking features nice to have, although the light-sensor benefits from a little manual intervention depending on the time of day and how close you sit to a window.
My biggest gripe is the lack of bundled software that allows you to schedule a webcam snapshot, save it as a JPEG image and ftp it to your web page ... something that was included in earlier models. This is one of the main reasons folks purchase a webcam in the first place ... still, it's easy enough to find a shareware program out there to do the job if you look around a little.
The bottom line is the QuickCam Pro 4000 is a good value. If you want something better, be prepared to pay for it. But at under $100 it has very few -- if any -- rivals.
12 My First Webcam
My Computer's Specs just in case: 2.5 GHZ Celeron, Home XP SP2, Radeon 9200 Graphics Card, 512MB, DSL.
I've gotten this cam for a few days now. I'm giving this a 5 stars not because its perfect but because its good enough for me and for the price and asking too much is asking for trouble. Bought it for $70 dollar total including shipping. My first webcam and I've got to say, it is a very decent webcam. The picture was very nice, clear, and quite smooth, the still picture is a little bit blurry but still pretty nice considering this is a webcam and not a digital camera. When showing other people my webcam, especially on instant messengers, it was very smooth and clear, so if you have pimples etc, if the lighting is right you can see it all. The lighting adaptor is fantastic. I can turn off all my lights and just have my computer on and the cam will actually adapt to the darker surrounding. However, the picture will become a little scratchy so light means better pictures, just not too much light cause the cam doesn't require much.
The function is quite easy. So far I've heard people complain about the software, the base, this and that. So far I have no problem at all. The base is standing solid on my table and I moved the movable pieces and so far nothing has fallen off or anything. I mean if you don't abuse and/or misuse it, than I don't see why you would have that problem. The software, after using it to install the program needed for the cam, I haven't even touched it cause the reviews here made me paranoid. I just put almost everything on auto so the camera can adjust to the surrounding, but you can definately experiment with the webcam's adjustments to see what best fits you.
Before installing it, I was extra careful so I cleaned up the computer by scanning it completely for spywares, adwares, virusus, useless junks or whatever and doing a defrag. I mean if you have problems with the cam, maybe its not just the cams fault, but your own.
I would definately say, if you want a nice cam for your money, than this is it. I'm not overwhelmingly impressed, but definately by far not disappointed.
13 Excellent video but lots of echo from audio
The camera installs very easily on XP with SP2 and latest patches -- very straight forward. Video is excellent and automatically adjusts well to lighting conditions. However, the mic is so sensitive that it picks up alot of echo if you are not using a headset. The sound from the person you are video conferencing with comes out your speakers gets fed back into mic causing an echo). If they could provide audio echo cancellation in the QuickCam, I'd give it 5 stars and use MSN video conferencing much more. For those having trouble installing this camera, the problem is on your end. Update your software!!
14 Logitech quick cam pro 4000 " Sucks"
I've reinstalled this web cam for almost six times since whenever i restart my computer and i plug in the USB for the web cam i get a message that a file "vfwwdm32.dll" is needed for this cam to work properly. I even downloaded another new version of an installation software for this camera; however, it did not work. This web cam sucks. Eventually, i called the customer support to seek the help of a technician to solve this problem. Interestingly enough, i have been waiting on the line for almost an hour every time i call without no response. My experience reagrding using this product was basically awful. So, if you're looking for a web cam ; you better look for another product that is worth your money and time.
N.B: if anybody has experienced the same problem and succedeed in getting this web cam work, please let me know how you did that by emailing me at desertrose139@hotmail.com . Thank you for taking the time to read this review.

16 Great Camera
This is an excellent piece of equipment that is quick and easy to install. The quality of both video and sound is excellent, and with the flexible stand it is clipped at the top of my screen on my laptop.
Great engineering and worth your money!
17 Works well with XP
I figured I should review this item because the reviews seem so mixed. Some people report problems, others say it installed in a snap.
Well, it installed in a snap on my machine and my mother's. We are both running Windows XP sp2. Before installing, I made sure to do Windows update, and installed all non-critical updates and driver updates, as well as the critical updates. I'm wondering if people who are experiencing problems are running older versions of MS Windows, or if they haven't done the latest updates from Microsoft.
My mother lives 2000 miles away, and is technically challenged. We used XP's Remote Assistance feature so that I could remotely go into her machine and do all the updates. I downloaded the latest Logitech software for the camera from their site, and also loaded that on my mother's machine. After the reboot, mom was on her own to plug in the camera and follow the screen directions. Okay, I was actually on the phone with her while she did it, but it went okay with no problems.
I'm having a little problem with my HP All In One scanner/copier/printer since installing the Logitech camera and MSN Messenger 6.2 -- sometimes my computer would freeze when I try to print. I don't know which is causing the conflict (camera software or MSN Messenger) and have temporarily stopped using that printer until I have time to look into it. My other HP printer, a LaserJet, is working perfectly. Mom has an HP photo printer and hers is working perfectly as well.
The microphone is very sensitive, so we have to use headphones when we have an audio conversation or else there is feedback. Moving the speakers to point away from the microphone did not help. The microphone is great, though. I had an audio conversation with a friend using another brand of microphone, and the first syllable of almost every sentence he said was lost. Not so with the microphone in this camera. The sound is really good.
Mom and I chat on Messenger almost every day, and we use the web camera about once a week. For the past 40 years, she and I have always lived less than 20 miles apart. This web camera is making a big difference in helping us make the adjustment to being so far apart. I highly recommend it. Phone calls are great, but nothing can replace seeing the smile and laughter of a loved one in real time.
18 Wow Great
This product is great for many reasons. You can use AIM on it, pictures, my favorite clay animation, stop animtion, and it can be used as a regular camera. If anyone wants to do a school project, which involves a video camera or stop animation, this is perfect. You can make funny movies, sad movies, realistic movies, movies of all kind.
19 This one is the KING!!!
If you want a real good webcam, buy this one without considering any other stuffs! This one is very easy to use and most of all, you can feel something when you hold it in your hands! I don't know how to describe that kind of feeling... it's just the king of all webcams! Give up all those cmos cameras and try this one, you're gonna love it!
20 Works with a Mac if you use iChatUSBCam
If you want to use this webcam on a Macintosh with iChat, you need to get iChatUSBCam (http://www.ecamm.com/mac/ichatusbcam/). This $10 utility enables iChat to work with this and many other USB webcams. I use this combination on my 400MHz G4, and it works great. And now that the video conferencing feature of iChat works with AOL Instant Messenger, you can buy two of these webcams for the same price as one iSight (ASIN B0002OZXG0) and still have video conferences with someone using a PC.
21 Love this little webcam
At first I was a bit hesitant to get this camera, because some of the reviews were negative about installing with Windows XP SP2. Well, I was up and running in about 5 minutes, with no problems at all. I went to the logitech website and downloaded the most current driver for this camera. I already had directx 9. If you don't have that installed, logitech will ask you to do that first. After I downloaded that, I closed out all of my extra programs, including my antivirus program and yahoo messenger. Then I ran End It All, a neat little program that will close out many of your hidden programs that are running in the background, and can be found for free on downloads.com. I do this for any program I install, to ensure a clean install. Believe me it makes a difference. I clicked on my new downloaded driver and I was ready to go. (Do not plug in your camera till you've installed the driver and you are asked to plug in the camera. This is very important.) Never even used the CD that came with it. That would be outdated by now. The picture was so great, much to my dismay because it showed all of my wrinkles (I'm 58). Recorded videos in a manner of minutes, and emailed to people for feedback. They received and were able to play them with no problems. Audio was excellent. If you're hesitant, like I was, try it out and see for yourself. You won't be disappointed.
22 Don't buy this product
I got this product last year and have never been able to use it. After months of working with Tech Support, they sent me another cam., which I was able to get working for a day but then Logitech upgraded their software and I was unable to download it. I called for an installation CD and their manager (who was very rude!) said they'd send me one for a fee. I had already spent over $90 on this produce without having a chance to use it and they wanted me to dish out more cash! No way. I would never buy anything from Logitech again. There are plenty of other companies out there with quality products and good customer support.
23 Excellent picture, easy to set up and use
I love this product. It is easy to set up (took me about 5 minutes out of the box), great picture quality. The microphone is indeed very sensitive, good for us though, don't have to lean over and speak into the mic.
I am buying another one for kids room.
24 Bad Software
This is my first time buying a web cam....and I have to say is, it's a great product. One feature I like, is the feature where it track your face. You don't have to play around with the software to pinpoint the face.
One big bad factor about the logitech...the software. When U try to install the program, it will install an "Adware" call BackWeb.
It's a no no. The Backweb program can install and upload information from your computer with out your notice. Plus, you can get a trojan without noticing it. Luckly I had Pestpatrol to clean it out. If it wasn't the software problem...I would have given it a 5 stars
25 nice cam
I had a really old Kensington camera which worked only with Win 95/98 and after few years I decided to use a webcam for general conference calls and for fun too. I basically compared this model with Creative labs Webcam NX Ultra and found this model has had lot of upgrades and been on the market for quite sometime. So I went ahead anh bought it.
- Very easy to setup
- have used with windows messenger and MSN messenger
- software for video and picture recordings
- good microphone quality
- I like the Face Track feature where the camera follows the face and zooms in accordingly. You need to have it on the zoom in mode so that it can pan automatically with in the field of sight.
I've used this for many conference calls within US and outside US also and now I've ordered the 5 pack (ASIN: B00007FS0C) for everyone in my group at work.
Really worth the value and friends also like the quality of audio/video with the chat.
It does come with the flat panel clip as advertised in the product and I've never seen the other error about "imgstud.exe" as "Mary Foster Cox" suggested.
26 very disappointed
I used the picture option with no difficulty, but I could not get the movie option to work. After recording and trying to open the file, I repeatedly got the error message "imgstud.exe has generated errors and will be closed by Windows." After spending 1 hour on hold (NOT toll free) with tech support, I was emailed a lengthy explanation of how to do a "clean boot," which took a great deal of time and did not resolve the problem. I am sending the product back.
27 Good camera, good price, easy to use.
I am very pleased with this camera. I talk to my friend in Sweden with it and she is always amazed at the clear images. It was very easy to set up, easy to use....the simple review is...we're very happy with it!
28 LogiTech 4000 is Tight
Okay so I have been hearing a lot of ups and downs about this camera, but personally I love it I think its great. My came with the clip and everything. Image is great is whatever light, I think. Installation was so easy, I think a 5 yr old could do it. And, it was just fine with the messenger MSN and YAHOO that I have but see I have a regular account with AOL and the camera works just fine on that, but if I just log on to the AIM, for some reason the camera thing doesnt work right now, but it should, so Im lookin into that. So this camera is great.
29 Nice Cam.
This is my first web cam and I have to say it is quite nice. Installation was real easy witch is a real plus. Overall quality is real good witch is what I have come to expect from logitech. Oh yeah mine DID come with a flat panel clip.
30 Software is awful. Cam is ok.
Bought this and ultimately returned it. Had a cheaper Creative cam before (Creative Labs PD1130 WebCam NX Pro) and loved the SW on it. It worked well and unobtrusively and if you wanted the cam to function for security monitoring, as I did, then it was great. The Logitech 4000 is a slightly better piece of hardware (although still much lower resolution than even an average digital camera), but the monitoring SW is nonexistent and the "Webcam" part of it is nothing more than a sales pitch for a pay-by-the-month hosting site. In case you don't know, you don't have to pay for a site to have a remote webcam. I find this a dirty trick of Logitech. Also, the graphical interface of the Logitech SW is just flat out annoying. The Creative Labs PD1130 WebCam NX Pro is half as much and have superior SW in just about every regard.
I returned the Creative Labs PD1130 WebCam NX Pro only because it would lock up after several hours on my machine using Win ME. Well, guess what? The Logitech did too. To be fair, this is probably a Win ME issue or my PC hardware instead of the cameras. But because I hated the Logitech SW and the resolution improvement isn't enough to overcome my disdain for the SW, I've returned the Logitech and will probably rebuy a Creative Webcam soon.
31 BE aware!
Hi !
I want to say something about this camera!
Be aware that amazon sells a version of this camera without the flat panel clip!!!!
Some other stores have the flat panel clip with it where you can attach the camera to a flat panel screen.
I bought the camera this week and the clip was not included. that is probably why they sell the camera so cheap.
despite that i recommend the camera.
32 LOVE IT LOVE IT
Finally I got the 4000 pro and watch a 5000 will come out LOL Either way this cam rocks! I made a ton of videos right away and pics with ease. I love this cam! The picture is so clear and the mic is very good. I recommend!
33 Great cam for a reasonable price
This is a very good product if you're simply looking to enhance your experience with MSN or Yahoo Messengers. The image is of good quality, the refresh rate is decent so you end up getting a fairly smooth image. I had no problem installing it or using it on my system, and with the new Messengers out there they recongize the hardware right away. Great way to keep in touch with friends and family, especially if you're over great distances and the cost of a phone call is too much! My wife's family in Japan loved to see us on it!
34 Love the camera, hate the software
I bought this on Amazon.com for $79.98. The CD installed software worked only briefly before it failed to capture video. I got an error message that said, "Unable to save video to "c:\windows\temp\log16.avi". I uninstalled and reinstalled a few times, and gave up. So I emailed Logitech's support. They responded the next day and asked me to do a clean uninstall and to reinstall the latest software. I did that but improvised here and there. That did the trick, but oh boy it took more than 5-6 hours to get this webcam working at last. Such a pain. The picture and audio (built-in camera) was pretty good, and I think I will keep this camera after all. My last purchase, which I returned, was the Logitech QuickCam Messenger. The picture quality was really awful, and you can see the really grainy picture. If you are into better picture quality, go for the Quickcam Pro 4000 but beware of the software installation. It's a real hassle.
35 AWESOME WEBCAM!
I had an IBM, Then an IBOT, Then a Tracker Robotic Cam Pod that I paid over 200 dollars for and it never worked right! The company gave me the run around for 2 years. I finally gave up! A Logitech 3000 was attached to the robotic piece of garbage. So I used that cam for the past 2 years. The picture started to get grainy and there was no way of making it clearer anymore. I ran this camera non stop 24 hours a day pretty much for 2 years. So I decided it was time for a new cam! I love Logitech webcams and I was more then happy at how easy this was to install over all the other cams I pulled my hair out over. Plus the software is AMAZING! I started making video's and sending them everywhere. I think all webcams have a short life. After experimenting with my own and seeing my friend's. This is a great bang for your buck. I totally recommend this cam!
36 Great little Web Cam
Got this on a Gold Box special, and I am very pleased.
Easy set-up and works great!
37 Good Equipment
I have no idea what people are griping about... I'm an E-Commerce student and a programmer, and for it's price this is a good web cam. I didn't bother with the software it came with, got the newest off the Logitech website. The picture clarity is good, I can't say anything about the audio as I already have a mic. But setup was easy and it works with instant messaging programs fine... Can't say how it works on macs though, I'm a PC user.
Over all, if you want a super camera, expect to pay super prices. The camera is good for $80 and is really great with limited light.
38 Works Great on MY PC, ok on my MAC
To date this is the best of 3 web cams I've used. I bought this and the Isight at the same time, ended up returning the Isight because we elected to use the PC for our web cam machine.
Note: I only use this as a web-cam for communication, I don't use any of the other software that comes with it.
The camera setup is fairly well though out. I really like the fact they give you two stands, one for a CRT and one for an LCD.
Installation of the software on an old PIII dell under windows 2000 went pretty much by the book. My only complaint was that it took a rather long time to install the software. Once installed it detected the camera and all was well.
I do photography as a hobby and compared to still cameras or even conventional video cameras the image quality was lacking, but you have to remeber what this device is for. The auto white balance worked pretty good, way out performing my Isight. I haven't messed with the face tracking software, I figure thats just a problem waiting to happen.
It plugged and worked (video wise) with my Mac and PC. I had some issues with getting the audio to work with my mac and Ivisit but I didn't really pay attention since I wasn't planning on using it for the Mac anyway.
On the PC it works fine, does an ok image, recognized by Yahoo IM and Ivisit.
Because of the pull of the cable getting it pointed in just the right direction is sometimes problematic.
All in all I am happy with it. It does its job well.
39 The little camera that could, can and does!
This is one of Logitech's better bang-for-the-buck inventions.
Automatically, it zooms in or out on you, as if another person is filming you. Sound is good, not the best, but very, very clear and audible. Picture is superb.
Have fun gabbing online face-to-face with other web cam nuts, or enjoy filming yourself talking to yourself. Fun and affordable.
40 Not comfortable with it
I have been used this product before, the quality is okay, not very impressive though.
Now i am using other cameras like IP Camera. I am lucy to find out that some of the IP Camera like IP Camera 8000 can act as webcam, and can be placed anywhere in my house and be viewed anywhere in the world. That's too convenience for me because i did not have to hook camera to my computer anymore.
Also imagine you can watch your babies in their bedroom or the dinning room from outside like your office. That's too cool. Forget the webcam...
41 do not buy
They advertise as easy to use. Yet I could not get the audio to work. In going to the logitech site this was clearly a known issues with no help given. When asked what to do they gave a third party option and then disavowed it, since it was third party. DO NOT BUY!!
42 Poor software, marginal optics
I wish I'd weighted jfaughnan's evaluation more before purchasing this camera...
1. Software = useless for webcam image uploading. For additional software from a third party, Logitech points to a website that hasn't worked since 2003. Logitech's technical support is extremely poor: incomplete and incorrect responses to basic questions appear to be standard.
2. Very low picture quality in low light. I am not sure what some other reviewers were raving about; this camera does not perform well in anything but a very highly lit room. Compared side-by-side to my very old Intel CS430, the Logitech had distorted color and an overall poor quality image (regardless of endless tweaking of calibration tools).
3. Motion-tracked video capture is very poor. I originally thought that I finally had something worth considering keeping the camera for until opening a saved clip. At first, the video appears well-lit, then almost instantly the video becomes 80% darker. Again, no setting adjustments overcome this flaw. Very odd.
4. If you still think you'll test the camera yourself, don't buy from Amazon. You'll end up being out the shipping cost to send it back. Do yourself a favor and buy it from a local store. I used to love Amazon until this purchase.
43 A really nice supprise
I feel compelled to write this review due to the experience that I've had in searching for a decent webcam.
A few days ago, I purchased a Logitech QuickCam Express. I was very dissapointed with the image quality, and it really performed badly under low light conditions. I wasn't expecting to have to put lamps in my face as well as have the bedroom light on. I returned the QuickCam Express for a refund.
I then was left at a crossroad. Would the Logitech Quickcam Pro 4000 perform better in low light conditions and have better quality or should I ditch Logitech and go for another model like Creative?
I asked the salesperson and he said that there wouldn't really be much difference.. and the specifications on the boxes didn't look any different except the Pro 4000 had extra features.. so I wasn't sure..
However I remembered what some customers said in the Amazon reviews- that they found the Pro 4000 performed better under low light conditions, so I took a gamble and paid the $120 extra for the Logitech Pro 4000.
Took it home... I was shocked. You simply cannot compare the two!! This camera performs way better under low light conditions than the Quickcam Express..so if low light is a problem for you.. go for this one. Oh.. and the sharp. crisp clear quality is.. well... was a very nice change from the grainy poor quality Quickcam Express.
44 Not compatible with USB cable modem and McAfee Firewall
Have spent several days trying to get this to work. After installation I am unable to get online and my firewall is disabled. Judging from their website's discussion forum, this has been a known issue since last October with no fix in site.
After a lengthy wait (on my dime) with their customer reps, I was told they would call me back in 24-48 hours. With only one day off per week, this was not going to do me any good. My caller id still has shown no calls from them, and it's been almost a week. So I wrote email to customer service, they responded with instructions on hooking up a keyboard. I wrote back, they gave instructions on doing a "clean boot" before installation. This actually got me online, but firewall once again disabled and system ran incredibly slow. Am going to return it to Amazon and try another brand.
45 Great webcam, Audio takes some effort
This is my 3rd try at a webcam. I tried Creative and Vio webcams but the picture was just too grainy. With 4000 Pro, it is clear even without any special lighting. I love it. The face tracking is also interesting.
Now microphone was a different affair! I got it going locally, but with MSN messenger, it took some research. Finally by disabling QOS scheduling in the network properties, I got it going. Now I am alive :-)
I would strongly recommend this camera. Install the latest software from the Logitech website. Don't bother with the CD.
46 customer deception
Logitech pro 4000 camera does not work with AIM (AOL Instant Messenger) in the most unbelievable deception that a buyer caught unawares may have to face; never had so many problems with a piece of hardware (crashed a 4-yearold laptop through audio incompatibility)
47 It is great, simple to setup and to use!
I just got my webcam and already have it set up. It is so small, I was amazed at it's size. It came with two stands, and a nice long cord, about 5'! It had a booklet instructing you how to set it up! The setup was was fine except in trying to install the software, I click on the chinese version! The instructions for using the CED-ROM disc could have been more explicit! And there were no instruction on how to operate the zoom lens or the built-in microphone! I will look further for information. BUT, I would still order it again and think it is an excellent bargain from Amazon! They are totally rad!
Later, dude!
48 Awesome cam for the money. But be patient when configuring!
It took a little while to fine tune the settings- Dont expect it to work right out of the box!) Most of the problems occur when trying to configure the camera to work with your messenger (I use MSN 6.1) but once youre done, it is an excellent webcam. I tried the Quickcam Express which was horrible and the Quickcam zoom came highly recommended. But for the money, I went for the Pro 4000 and Im happy with it. Also, go for the picture quality and the zoom. The other add-ons (which are nice), you really won't use.
49 not bad but...
i own it for several weeks , its camera is good and can give u a clear sight of this , but its addtional microphone is a little bit xxxx ...
50 Product stopped working, Logitech support never works
The video portion of the product stopped working after 6 weeks. I refused to call Logitech's long distance # in Nevada, and left a message at their corporate office for every exec. No one at Logitech answers their phone directly. It took me 4 days to get a response, 2 weeks for them to decide they couldn't fix it, and now they want me to pay to send their lousy product back. I don't think so. By persistence, I finally got them to say they will refund my money. Their support is horrible. I wouldn't buy from Logitech any more.
51 Functional and simple
Great webcam - very simple yet functional.
The installation was quick and easy. For those complaining about the "extra software" - those are simply optional online albums that they're advertising; they're by no means needed to run the webcam.
Both the live stream and the still pictures' qualities are superb.
The auto face-tracking is a good feature to have.
The little "visor" that covers the lens is a cute feature.
52 AWESOME CAMMIN!
A totally awesome and quite an impressive webcam with face-tracking, digital zoom and built-in microphone - all with an extremely affordable price. Super easy to install (especially with XP) and user-friendly software package. I'm told that the detail, image clarity and overall quality online is spectacular. People often ask me what type of web camera I am using and I always tell. So, I know that this camera sells itself.
I'm sold on Logitech for a long time because of this camera! I've tried three other manufacturer's webcams and have been consistently disappointed with driver updates for operating systems and compatibility with online messengers. The Logitech QuickCam Pro 4000 works great with ALL of my instant messengers and online chat plug ins!
53 FANTASTIC CAMERA!!! VERY PLEASED
I used to own a VEO Velocity camera, and my girlfriend purchased one of these so that we can chat when i move overseas. When we hooked it up I was absolutely amazed by the clarity of the camera. We went online and did some Video IMing and I could not believe how sharp the picture was. This camera is awesome. The software includes a motion tracker which is pretty cool. If you want it to, it turns on whenever it detects motion, so you can catch someone doing something they shouldnt be doing. It works flawlessly and was a breeze to configure and install. After seeing it online, i went out and bought two, one for me and one for my mom. Its a great camera.
54 Best webcam I have ever seen/used.
After testing this camera I found the following things
1. Video Qualtiy - The video quality is amazing. I got 640 x 480 @ 30 FPS. I use Windows Movie Maker to capture and edit. Awesome and free. (or Virtual Dub, I like windows movie maker format a little better though)
2. Image Quality - The image quality is great, for its design. The resolution is 640 x 480 = 307 200 dots in the picture. For photo quality you need 2 000 000 minimum. So as you can see its no where near that. But for web shots its great.
3. Base - I heard many complaints about base. I know why. If you look at the webcam base there is a little notch for the webcam to be put in a certain way. If you dont' put it in right then it will not stay in very well.
4. MSN 6.x - If you plan on using this with MSN 6.x and both parties have windows xp and a webcam use the video conferencing feature, much better then the normal webcam feature.
TIP: In the cmaera settings, Take white balance and take it off of auto and put it on the one that makes it look the most natual. For me I have flourescent lightbulbs and incandescent looks the best.
TIP 2: If you want to avoid a crappy and grainy picture/video, make sure you take exposure off of auto and lower the gain. Less gain, less grain. Only do this if you use the same lighting all the time.
55 great cam
This is a great-priced, great-quality webcam... so many features... and so clear. It's great. I couldn't ask for better.
56 Ready, Set, Go...It's that easy
We just had a baby and decided to buy a webcam so that we could add some video when we chat with our parents who live abroad.
The Quick Cam Pro 4000 was easy to install - just install the software, connect the webcam to the USB port and you are ready to go (well almost, and this is the one complaint I have with this product)
It seemed to not work with MSN Messenger 6.0 and repeatedly asked me to install 6.1 even though I had installed it. This happened whenever I clicked on the logitech icon on the taskbar. When I started MSN Messenger and then sent a webcam invitation to someone, it worked fine.
Apart from that, this product is amazing and I would highly recommend it to anyone considering a webcam. Also, Amazon has the lowest prices compared to the merchants who sell this product. The software for photo management is limited, so you are better off with either Photoshop or something else.
57 Excellent product for price
The Logitech Quickcam Pro is a huge step up from our previous webcam (an earlier Quickcam) With this product the image quality has risen greatly and you no longer have to be in a very bright room to get a good picture. In the advanced settings you can even select if you are in daylight or under fluorescent lights to improve the quality again.
When taking still images you get 1.3 mega pixels and that was good for regular digital cameras up until a couple of years ago. If you are looking for a webcam in this price range then I'd definitely go with this one as to get any improvement in quality you'll really need to spend a lot of money.
58 Dependable Webcam but Lousy cover
To make this short, it is simple to use and takes great pictures. I have only two problems with it:
1. To use certain parts of the camera software, you must subscribe to some service..who's going to do that?!
2. The flipback lid for the camera lens is very irritating..it always comes off even with the slightest touch.
With the above said, the webcam comes through and serves its purpose with clear images.
59 Awsome Cam! Highly Recommend
I am new to using web cams but I do know a great product. The camera is extremly simple to setup, you'll be up and going within a matter of minutes. The picture quality is excellent! The room can be completly dark and the light from the monitor is enough to have a great picture. The camera auto focuses great! The camera and stand are sturdy and do not move out of place. The software is lacking in options however I don't imagine anyone buying the camera to use with the software. I've used the cam on pretty much all of the instant messangers and it work great! There is no choppy frame transition, completly smooth! I did find it works best with MSN messenger 6.1. Highly recommend this product!
60 It Works Perfectly - This is a good product!!
OK, I did my due dilegence, searched the web, compared products and manufacturers, read most of the Amazon reviews and then purchased the Logitech QuickCam Pro 4000. I received it in short order (Thanks,Amazon!) and installed it on my PC. It was very simple to install (just read the instructions) and worked perfectly from the start. I was able to get it up and running in less than one hour, start to finish, and that included setting up MSN Messenger(tm), adding several people to the contact list and sending all of my contacts a note that I was ready. I was able to make some video clips and successfully sent them to selected contacts. I also had my first video conference, using MSN Messenger(tm), with one of my friends in Germany. Worked perfectly. I have a broadband connection, my friend is on dial up - it still was just fine. I am pleased and happy. I bought two, and sent one to my son in Japan, it will sure beat paying for lot's of overseas long distance phone calls.
IMPORTANT NOTE!!!
Please remember to get the updated version of software from Logitech's web site - this extra step will help ensure success. You will also need to download the latest and greatest version of the Instant Messaging software you plan to use, MSN, Yahoo or whatever.
61 good 'cam that can take decent pictures, but bad software
This camera is really good for several reasons. 1) it makes a good Windows PC webcam, 2) you can take both pretty good still pictures and pretty good videos --but not top notch of course and 3) you can adjust the settings with the software.
The main drawback is that the software is pretty lowsy, "mickeymouse-like". Basically my opinion after using it for a while is that it is a good camera that comes with bad software --and the mic is useless if you already have one.
62 Good image quality, very poor service
I gave 1 star for good image, sound quality. Stand is also good looks and feels good. SO why only 1 star? Because don't know whether Logitech will provide driver support for next release of Mac OS X.
I bought a QuickCam Pro 3000 and it supports only Mac os 9, but not 10!
:( When I contacted Logitech support they said me to buy a QuickCam Pro 4000. I borrowed one from a friend and tested. It worked well. But I couldn't make my mind to buy this poorly supported product. I thought when Apple releases its next version of OS, Logitech will not support for that and will say to buy a new camera. I can't trust logitech. I would buy an iSight, which works well with both Windows and Macintosh.
63 Easy to install and setup!
By far, one of the easiest and fastest setups & installations I've ever done. Within 10 minutes of opening the package we were up and running and our boys were able to wave to their grandma & grandpa! LOVE IT!!!!!! We'll be buying one for all of our family members so we can stay in touch!
64 what's the USB interface 1.1 or 2.0?
Logitech says USB 2.0 on the web, but amazon gives 1.1
65 Great CCD webcam for 50 bucks
It is a great difference between CCD and CMOS webcams. But the high price made me hesitated. When I saw the price dropped to 50 buck, I immediately bought it. It works superb, especially during night. Because I use webcam most at night, I like it very much. I will never try CMOS webcam anymore.
I admit the 4000 model is not manufacturally elegant. It looks cheap. Also, it is bad that it can not stand on a LCD monitor.
66 Works well with MSN messenger.
I am a software developer who telecommutes full time from my home in WA to my job in AZ. I really like this webcam. It was easy to install and it is easy to use. The picture is great and the microphone works really well. MSN Messenger plays a big part in my communications with my colleagues and the Quickcam Pro works well with MSN Messenger.
When people complain about the picture quality, you have to ask them "what software are you using and what kind of Internet connection do you have?" With MSN, if you choose the "Video Conversation" option, you will get the camera's best picture. But, if you choose the "Video Conference" option, the picture quality is not the best. This is an issue with the MSN Messenger software, not the camera.
67 The Good, The Bad, The Ugly
I am new to web cams and this is my first. Thanks, Amazon, for shipping it so quickly! That was really excellent service. My system is a Dell 1.6Ghz Pentium IV running Windows98SE with 512 SDRAM, 20 Gbyte disk, not the fastest, but pretty fast.
The Good: It is a small and stylish camera with a nice long USB cord, 7 or 8 feet. The picture quality is nothing short of excellent but being new to this I had to tweak it a lot. It sent a great live moving picture through IM to the UK and the Brit on the other end thought it was great. The camera takes really nice stills, too, and files them for you (a task I'd rather do myself, but...). It also has numerous picture size options up to "megapixel."
The Bad: Logitech's software put 6 or 7 new icons on my desktop. I am very territorial about my desktop and I didn't like this; one would have been sufficient. Also, the software tried to sneak in a sale for RealPlayer which I don't want or need (I use MS MediaPlayer, it's free after all). Then I discovered the software shipped with it was an old version, and I had to download a newer version from Logitech...this took another ten minutes or so even at DSL speeds.
The Ugly: This thing uses a LOT of system resources, and I should have known (Duh!) While using the cam, I noticed my cursor took seconds to respond and at times I thought my system was frozen. I had to use msconfig from "Run" to unclick all the Logitech programs that were starting up with my system start-up. I also had problems when shutting down programs to run a defrag routine, I keep getting that "Safe Mode" screen saying the system was dangerously low on resources. I admit some of these problems may be blamed on Windows98SE (a notoriously unstable OS) but they never happened before I installed the Logitech software.
All in all the camera and its pics are great, and the camera is very, very sensitive to lighting. I just wish Logitech had considered that an end user might not want all the so-called "extras" in their software. "K.I.S.S.," I always say. Would I buy this camera again knowing what I know now? Yes. BUT...
68 I love this webcam!!!
This was a gift from a friend in Hawaii,we'd both been using a less expensive webcam to correspond. When this came I was floored! The set-up was a breeze..a little trouble actually getting audio for IM'ing at first, but that was resolved over a few tries. The picture and sound quality has been wonderful for our purposes...so good in fact that I have purchased one for each of my adult children for Christmas gifts! Now when they are Instant Messaging each other and me, we are all seeing each other (not always a pretty sight at 6 AM on a Sunday!!!!) For anyone who wants to step up their ability to be in touch with loved ones or colleagues, this is a great way to start! Thanks.
69 I love this webcam!!!

70 These other people are nuts
I don't know what these people are talking about, as far as I'm concerned, this cam is great. Sure, the image quality is lacking...but that's how webcams are. Obviously, ... has never seen one in action before. For a webcam, though, the images quality on this one is awesome. You have to make sure the lighting, of course, is all good or else it'll be kind of washed out. Also, you can adjust the focus, so don't forget that.
Others here are saying that the software sucks. Yeah, they're right. this cam doesn't come with any good software for auto-uploading your pics to your server. They make you sign up with SpotLife and SpotLife is shutting down on Dec 12. However, there are plenty of good (and free) web cam programs on the net. I suggest ChillCAM as thats what I've been using. Get it here: http://www.chillcam.com/index.asp?page=Download
And if you dont want to buy it, you may want to d/l the older version as i don't think it has a evaluation time limit on it.
I'm also runnig XP SP1 and have had no problems with it, whatsoever.
I'd recommend this cam to anyone wanting a good one and that does't mind paying a bit more for better quality and a zoom (which is pretty sweet, as well).
71 The image quality is terrible!
I purchased this WebCam a few months ago and it seems the longer I have it the worse the image quality becomes! I wish I had returned it before the 30 days was up but now I'm stuck with it! If this is the best WebCam around WebCam's have a long way to go! Don't waste your money on this piece of junk!
72 What else do you want?
This webcam is truly amazing. It's a product of art that offers you both quality and flexibility. Moreover it is the most user friendly webcam I have ever had. If you are looking for quality, this is much worth it...
73 Windows XP Pro SP1 problems
As others have noted this is not a quick install if using Windows XP Pro SP1. I work in desktop software support and usually do not hit a deadend. After hours and hours devoted to trying workarounds I gave up. I tried Microsoft and Logitech suggestions, patches and workarounds but nothing suggested or found on web searches worked. I am afraid that the Logitech QuickCam software v5.01 - v8.1.1 is not up to the task.
74 Great Cam!
I upgraded from and old intel cmos model and OH MY What a huge difference! My old cam would not work well in low lighting this one works awesome. I no longer need to light up my living room like a movie set for folks to see me. The face tracking feature is also great and the bundled software rocks. I bought mine locally though since Amazon was taking forever to ship it out.
75 THE SIMPLE FACTS ON THE LOGITECH PRO 4000
Ok, where do I start... After searching through dozens & dozens of reviews (Not only on this site & not only for the Pro 4000) Did I Come to the choice of the Pro 4000. I've read many negative & many positive reviews for this Webcam, so I thought what the hell & purchased one to find out for myself. here's what I can tell ya.
1. I use windows XP on my home pc and it installed the drivers for the Pro 4000 simply and efficiantly & works great.
2. The picture you get from the webcam is very, very clear, even when lighting is to a minimum. I bought this webcam so i could use it to see family in the UK, my brother purchased a more expensive one and the Picture quality between the two is beyond comparison, the Pro 4000 outshines his phillips and my mothers logitech messenger.
3. I like the auto zoom feature and you can also manualy zoom as well, so you have the best of both worlds.
Here's the negative...
1. Yes the microphone is sensative and does pick up background noise, if your having a party or playing loud music it's gonna pick it up.
2. The USB cable is a little heavy and can move your webcam a little, depends on how much slack you have for the wire. But you dont have to be a rocket scientist to tape a little slack down at the back of your PC so it does'nt move.
3. Reviews have mentioned how flimsy the base is, but I have had no problems with that.
4. It should come with more directions. Installation directions are basic, but ok. Needs to have directions regarding the software that comes with it, the movie maker is fun but it's gonna take you a while to find out what does what, just be patient!
5. If you want this webcam to take quality digital pics then dont bother, pics turn out grainy & not at all good quality.
6. Price, I search various places for the best deal and found some amazing prices, but then read the reviews on the company's that's selling the Pro 4000 and been detered. This is what I can tell you. If you want this webcam then buy it from Amazon, $80.00 is in the middle of the price range, but I know that Amazon has never let me down on delivery time or refunds. If your still not convinced on the Pro 4000 then buy it from Best Buy, your gonna spend $104.00, try it & see for yourself, if you dont like it, return it with no hassles , if you do like it, return it anyway & then order it from Amazon for $20.00 less!!
This saves you time in shipping and returning it, waiting for your money back etc..
Well, that's it. Ive never tried any other webcam's because I didn't need to! This IS the one webcam for me & maybe you....
76 Fantastic !
A great web camera, movie camera, animation camera etc! Easy to install, no problems at all!
And - it has a countdown timer!
77 I cannot believe the reviews this camera got
I cannot believe the reviews this camera got !
So far my experience with it has been sub-optimal.
Setup was very simple.
I dont see what is so great about it. It performs about the same as my connectix/logitech quickcam vc-which was poor.
The pic is fuzzy and no amout of fooling around with the focus ring gets it sharp.
The camera stand is flimsy-a piece of junk.
The visor falls off.
The camera is too light for the usb cable and you really can't get it to stand up straight-not to mention aiming it.
The cam moves rolls around in the ball socket thing.
PIECE of CRAP
78 Built-in microphone is horrible!
The logitech advertises the built-in microphone as one of the major functions of this webcam. However, it does not work at all because it catches too much background noise. I ended up buying a new microphone to work with this webcam. Consider this drawback before you purchase this item. You may consider another cheaper product without built-in microphone because you still need to pay for it.
79 WebCam User
I expected to be able to upload pictures to my website via FTP or some other mechanism. I can't. I can upload pictures to THEIR server (and pay them for the service) but I can't upload to my server with the software provided. I'm looking into returning the product.
80 SUPER NICE AND EASY TO INSTALL AND USE
I just bought the Logitech QuickCam Pro 4000 and it is awesome. I am not extraordinarily terrific with computers, but this camera was super easy to install and even easier to use. I have relatively low light in the room and the camera performs wonderfully in spite of the fact. The picture quality is outstanding. I shopped around for weeks and actually bought a cheaper model with a different brand name and ended up returning it. I recommend spending the little extra for this camera in particular based on the features, performance and value for the price. It's so worth it.
81 My experience with the Pro 4000
This was my first Web Cam. It's performance far exceeded my expectations. I use the internal Mike when ON Echolink - This Link is for Licensed Amatuer Radio Operators - I have had many complimentary reports on the excellent Audio response.
I am purchasing a second Pro 4000 for a family Member. I have chosen this Model because I personally know that the Performance
is excellent.
82 Great product
I purchased this for my and my girlfriend and it works great! the image is amzingly clear and smooth and the microphone works very well. There was no connectivity problems with WinXP.

84 Superb WebCam
About a week ago I bought the Logitech ClickSmart 310 (to use it both as WeCam and Digital Camera). But after using it for one day I decided to change it (becuase of very bad image quality) for this beutiful Cam. The quality is excelent and the software for editing, recording, etc too. I highly recommend this to anyone interested in very good resolution.
85 Top of the line
I was very fortunate to get this from Amazon...
Pros:
1) Very clear picture even in low lighting.
2) Built in Microphone that is very clear and efficient
3) Stylish and compact
4) Sturdy, I dropped it several times and it still works like
a charm
5) Super easy setup, plug and play
6) Logitech Brand is solid
Cons:
1) Requires a relatively recent cpu. It did not work on my
old Pentium II 400 MHZ even though it claimed that it
works (I even had 256 mb RAM). But it is flawless on my
new DELL 2.40 GHZ.......zoom zoom.....
86 Logitech QuickCam Pro 4000
Bought this item from Justdeals.com This is an exellent item which has an options on and off for autozoom and clearly in picture or images.
Also, Seller from Justdeals.com (Kenny) is a professional customer service helps me track the item that been lost (order) and follow up until I got it.
Thanx....
87 NO IMPROVEMENT OVER Logitech 3000
I purchased the 4000 in order to improve the picture quality of my useful Logitech 3000. Not only was there no discernable difference in still picture quality but the video mode was shakier. Autofocus was less clear than manual. Face tracking was erratic. DON'T BUY THE 4000 if you already own the 3000 or have the option to purchase that model instead.
88 Simple
It's easy to set up, and if you have the right components, the software CD doesn't even need to be installed. The video quality is great for the price and the mic catches even the subtle sounds.
89 Works well with MSN & Yahoo Messenger
This is a nice webcam for webconferencing use and I was pleased how easy it was to use with MSN and Yahoo messenger. The frame rate with MSN Messenger was pretty high and resolution decent.
For a comparison, I have also tried a webcam approximately in the $ range which didn't seem compatible with these instant messengers.
The camera has a face tracking feature which is nice. As for quality of images, it's good enough quality for a webcam and still photos can be used for a photo Id.
90 Absolutely great!
If you're looking for clear images and close to perfect photo clips/videos, this camera is for you. I use it to chat with my family overseas and it works great. Take advantage of the price right now while it lasts. I recommend it 100%.
91 Fun & Easy to Use
To give you a little background, I've never had one of these before as I usually just use my digital cam. I received the QuickCam Pro 4000 as a present and I'm in love with it. :) It lives up to its "quick" name: set-up was a breeze. I was up and running within 15 minutes and had my first video conference shortly thereafter. I had heard there are issues between Windows XP and the QuickCam Pro 4000, but if there are, I haven't experienced it yet, so perhaps that deals with earlier editions (I did notice during set-up it installed a Windows XP patch). The picture is clear; still shots and video are high-quality, even in low-light settings or when using MSN Messenger. The only complaint I have as far as performance is one mentioned below -- it is a little tricky to make sure the cam stays on the mount as it comes unscrewed easily. And I'm not thrilled that you need to buy SpotLife in order to broadcast or have live cam action. But I consider those minor details and would highly recommend this fun camera to anyone for its ease of use and high-quality images/video.
92 Great Webcam
Bought this product, hooked up to my system and am very satisfied with the features and its reliability (Logitech, of course). My friends report that I am seen and heard very well when online. Don't hesitate, great camera for anything requiring online contact. You must remember that internet traffic, your connection and equipment are factors that influence the end-product, but if all the givens are at peak the camera gives you just what you've been expecting.... quality performance!
93 Great Camera, ...
I looked at this camera mainly for long-distance calling over the internet. I find that although the image is smaller than I expected over AIM (and there is no sound), you can use MSN Messenger to get both a bigger image and sound. Be careful--if you're using AOL to get online, it may restrict your ability to send/recieve video and audio. My boyfriend could not send sound over the internet because AOL blocked that aspect. But overall it's a good little camera that serves its purpose well.
94 Could NOT get it to work with Windows XP & Yahoo Messenger
I have to give this thing a somewhat poor rating because the documentation and web support are weak. I could not get this device to work with my Windows XP Pro system (I am very computer literate) and Yahoo Messenger 5.5. I'm not sure if it's a Windows/Yahoo/Logitech problem, but after cleaning my computer's registry, searching for tech notes, installing/reinstalling/uninstalling, I could not get this thing to work (I threw away many hours of my life trying)! I gave up on my desktop computer (Win XP machine) and installed on my Windows 2000 Pro laptop...bingo! It worked. For the price, it's not horrible, but I don't love it. The software bundle is a bit cheesy. As far as being "flimsy" as others have written...I'm not sure how rugged it needs to be sitting on your monitor?! I have enjoyed making stupid faces at my brother in-law who lives in San Diego...our kids love it too.
95 A Great camera compared to the rest.
I purchased the pro 4000 to be able to see our grand children while traveling in the air force. The camera was very clear and the video could be viewed on full screen. The software interfaced very easly with win XP. Our son bought a logitech messenger which was good. He tried an express and returned it due to very poor video. The mount was solid but I was prepared for replacing it. I would recommend it without a problem.
96 Good Deal, Good Quality
This cam was very easy for me -- so easy that I got my dad to buy one. He's 72 and had no problem setting it up and using it either.
The Logitech Quickcam Pro 4000 is my first webcam, so I don't have anything to compare it with. But for the price, I think it's a great deal. The quality is what I expected. My picture looks as good (and sometimes better) than many cams I see out there.
The set up is easy -- I have a Dell laptop running Windows XP.
The only drawback I can see is that you must use one cam broadcaster at a time. For instance, you cannot broadcast on Yahoo Messanger at the same time you may be in a webcam chat room on the web.
Otherwise, I'm completely satisfied.
97 a new generation of webcam
for the first time, there is a webcam with good optical quality:
1. good exposure control
2. sharp image
3. good color
4. not bad in low-light situation
There is no other reason to buy other webcams (even cheaper models from Logitech)
98 Greate Web Cam
This is my first WebCam. I do own still digital cameras. Just installed the Camera and S/W last night. It is a good looking device, not Military hardware, but good quality. Installed on a Dell w/Win XP Pro SP1 2.2GHz. Installation was smooth. Works great with Netmeeting, except that the audio has to be run using the computer's microphone (still have to investigate this). On AIM, once you start the AIM companion, the thing was easy to use, just use the companion to start the IM chat session, the first thing will be other person will see is an invitation link to your video session. On connection the Video comes out. Like very much the animation features of the S/W and Movie support. I purchased it more as a Teleconferencing item. Need to explore more about it. Image quality is very good to be just 640x480. I have not tried the still photography support yet.
99 quality cam
This is my first webcam. The picture quality is excellent, it took less than 1/2 hour to install camera and all software and set up for use with Yahoo Messenger. (I have Windows 98). Very easy to make video clips and photos and has many great features.
100 A very decent webcam for the money
