1 Great webcam for users looking for a notebook camera
Initially I was suspicios about the quality vs. the price but after purchasing this, I really love it. It gives very good image even in the dark places. I don't need any extra lighting arrangement. Even the still images are also very good. Before this, I had tried other webcams as well boht for PC and for my laptop and ended in returning them to the store, but this is the best image I have ever got.
The box provided along with the camera makes it handy to bundle it up with the laptop and take along. The stand is also well adjusted on the top of my laptop just the way I was looking for.
I think it is a very good buy...
2 Ideal for the traveller
I've used this web cam for more than a year when I trave . It's perfect for the task, fitting into a small mesh bag with a boom mike headset. The supplied case protects it well.
In use, the supplied mounting is a bit of genius: it will hang happily and steadily from the several laptops I've used it with. Learning the technique of mounting it correctly may take a few moments to master. You are essentially seeeking the web cam's center of gravity. Judging from some of the reviews here it would seem some did not grasp that essential concept.
Image quality is good. Certainly not less than I would expect - but not anything more either.
For stationary user there are better choices. For the traveller, however, this is the best I've found.

3 Nice and portable
I've had this webcam for about a year now and I haven't had many problems with it. Actually, I can't think of any problems I've had with it. The little arms allow me to easily manipulate the way it attaches to my laptop and the angle that it uses. You also have a limited ability to pan and tilt the camera through the software and have it automatically track your face. The image quality is pretty good and it functions surprisingly well in lower light conditions. It is quite small and packs up really well in the hard case. Overall, I think you'd be hard pressed to find a better camera for your laptop.
4 Maybe it will work for you. Maybe not.
This cam may work at one location, but not at others, depending on the environment. It was a problem to install right from the start and I spent several Sunday afternoons with un-installing and re-installing drivers, Windows "clean boots" and their like. Logitech online support provides only basic information. The driver software's "self healing" option is a joke. Proper support seems non-existent.
From forums on the Internet I learned that the drivers may not really be designed for Win2000 and that Logitech cams only support USB1.1 anyway. But even after purchasing a USB1.1 interface card the problems persisted. As an electronics engineer I finally managed to resolve the problem with a solder iron inside the webcam.
It works fine now - but Warranty void. Too much of my precious private time wasted. Very disappointing for cam at this price level.
5 Great Camera
Worked right out of the box. Nice picture and easy to setup and use. I use it on AOL video messenger and it works well.
One thing to think about because I use it on my main computer not a laptop (I like the way it fits on my flat panel monitor) the USB cable was not long enough. I bought an extension for it and it worked out OK.
6 Great little camera for my needs
This camera meets my needs, but my needs are relatively simple. I use my webcam often, but I don't travel much and my laptop (an HP Pavillion) almost never leaves my kitchen countertop. I just wanted a webcam that could be used without a routine of propping and adjusting on the nearest box, cookbook, backpack, etc.
Based on some of the reviews here, I was concerned that this camera might not mount properly/securely on my notebook (an HP Pavillion); fortunately, it works with my setup. The mounting hardware is not ideal, but nor is it a problem for me. However, as I mentioned above, my notebook and webcam generally remain flat and stationary while I'm videoconferencing. I'm not convinced that the camera would stay perched on my screen if it were jostled much.
The picture quality is surprising good for such a small webcam, especially in low-light conditions, the mic is adequate and the carrying case is a plus.
I'm very happy with this purchase, and if the mounting system were a bit more secure, or if it made me look 10 years younger, I would have added another star to my rating. ;)
7 Works Perfectly
I read all the reviews of this device and was somewhat hesitant to buy because of the remarks on the "little arms" that are used to mount it to the laptop. I found that it worked perfectly and am extremely pleased with its simplicity as well as function. The camera works very well in most any lighting situation and comes with a very nice software bundle. I bought two, one for me and one for my wife. Couldn't be more pleased with this purchase.

8 Loving it so far
This cam works perfectly for what I need a laptop cam for. It's small, has a carrying case and is great for travel. The CCD sensor is awesome - VERY clear picture. My work area is dark and the low-lite adjustment did a great job. There are a few things I don't like this cam. The mic is ok, but not sensitive enough. The stand is ridiculous. I use this cam in meetings and I have to rotate my laptop to focus on people - wish they had a better setup. Otherwise, I love this cam so far.
9 Logitech QuickCam Pro for Notebooks
I almost did not buy this product because of all the complaints regarding the way the QuickCam just sits on top of the notebook screen without barely any support. I did not have this problem. I have a Dell 8500 Notebook and it sits perfectly supported dead center on top of the notebook screen and can be easily tilted forward or backward. The video and picture quality is excellent. I am very happy I bought this product. I have tried less expensive webcams and they don't match up to the Logitech QuickCam Pro. It costs more, but is well worth it. I like that the camera lens is larger and actually makes the shutter sound when you snap a picture. This product is way cool.
10 Don't underestimate form factor
It is a great camera, if optics are the only measure of greatness. But that would be like saying that the engine is the only measure of a good car. If the steering wheel is on the wrong side of the dashboard, that's not just some aesthetic issue.
So it is with this camera. The stand is terrible. Not only is it flimsy, it's basically inflexible. The camera can sit in one position, with no possiblity to raise, lower, or turn the lens. It wouldn't take much more in terms of design or manufacturing, to be able to set it up with some flexibility. And it can't sit on a table, etc, because the cord extends from the bottom of the unit rather than the top. Inexplicable.
A camera is as useful as you can make it. If you would buy a 35mm film camera that could only take mid-distance portraits, and nothing else, then this is the quickcam for you. Again, the image quality is excellent, but that matters far less if there's only one type of image it can capture.

12 Outstanding imaging performance.
Yeah, the stand is lousy and I almost passed on this camera at first becuase of it. In daily use the stand is just adequate but I'll live with it to get the level of image quality this camera provides. I'm usually disappointed by the video from most webcams, but this one delivers excellent video under extremely diverse and difficult lighting conditions - a must for mobile users. Do you're self a favor and spend the few extra bucks for this one if you're a true road warrior.
13 Excellence in engineering.....not
This web cam gets mixed reviews. The Good.. I really like the camera...it is great in low light situation. I use it alot in hotel rooms when I travel to talk and see my family members back home. The case is a great idea and can bounce around in my laptop bag and I don't have to worry about it. The Bad...What were the engineers at Logitech thinking when they came up with the arms/legs. As Red and Green says get the duct tape out. The other reviewer who says this is a delicate insturment and should be treated as such....I think is the engineer program manager from Logitech trying to defend a very lame design. Let see, is it form follows function or function follows form.
14 Good but not perfect.
Given that this webcam is near the high end of webcam prices, I expected a much better picture quality. The video quality is good, but the stills aren't that clear. It hangs pretty well on my laptop. Lastly, it saves video files as AVIs, but they are pretty big: A two second clip (320 x 240) with sound was 1MB. Still debating if I should return it or not.

I love this camera. It has a really good picture and does extremely well with different light settings. The stand is OK. It is durible and it works fine. It would be better if it was made from another material. The software was very easy to install. I have really enjoyed this this webcam so far. It is worth the price.
16 Pretty crappy where it matters most
As an Apple user, my options for a webcam are limited. As an Apple notebook (PowerBook) user, my options are pretty much narrowed down to this camera. I felt the camera was very true to life in terms of sound and video. It was also pretty easy to install - I just downloaded the driver from the Logitech website. I would be completely satisfied if it wasn't for the awful attachment mechanism. PowerBook screens are pretty slim, I guess, because in order to make the camera stay on top of my notebook, I have to use masking tape! Otherwise, it slips off to the back and falls off. This is because it has two flimsy little plastic legs to stradle the screen, and these legs have absolutely no tension - just move around as they please. Is this any way to attach a camera? Will be returning this to the store shortly.
17 Great Product!
The quality of the image is great. The webcam is very easy to carry using the box it came with. Also I did not have any problems attaching the webcam to my monitor. I can point it in any direction I want and stays fixed even when I move the laptop.
18 Best camera I have used
I have bought two of these...one for a friend and one for me and they are great.....fantastic resolution and a good mic.The face tracking software is so cool....it allows you to relax and not stay in a fixed position when you chat.
The only bad thing is the delicate stand....They should have made it out of a better tougher material.
Even then its a super deal....you won't be disappointed.

I have spent a lot of time reviewing the options for a portable webcam to VC with my kids when I travel. The brightness and clarity of the camera has been excellent. The face tracking is a little freaky at first and wanders every once in a while, but is a great feature. Setup was a no brainer on an XP PC at home and my XP SP2 laptop at work, nothing more than running the CD. Yes, the mounting system is flimsy, but appears durable and I don't plan on carrying around my laptop while it is connected. The size and case are outstanding and fit well in my bag. My kids love seeing daddy every night before bed time. Well worth the price, especially with the rebate offer.
20 Exceptional for limited use, then kaput
Used on a Pentium M laptop w/ vCon H.263/264 video conferencing software; never used LogiTech software. Flawlessly connected to high-end Polycom & Tandberg units, & sent impressive video quality. Clip on laptop mount is durable and effective, extremely portable. Image is quite sharp once mushy focus is set. I use headset so no idea how camera microphone sounds. Effective face tracking. HOWEVER, after ~20 sessions something failed, camera produced only vertical streaks. LogiTech replaced it free.
21 great image, durable stand/attachment
I love this webcam! The image is really good even in low light. The software allows you to customize the picture to improve the image depending on your lighting situation. The installation was a breeze. The microphone works like a charm.
The arms/stand/attachment works great and it is durable (despite what other reviewers have been saying). I care for my laptop and related equipment as if it was a delicate electronic device (which it is). The webcam comes with a hardshell case that stores the webcam and the cord. The hardshell case only protects the webcam if you use it!!! Also, a portion of the webcam folds-up into itself in order to protect the camera eye when not in use...another great feature. And the arms/stand/attachment also folds-up into the webcam when not in use...and this protects the unit from damage. The webcam is well packaged by the manufacturer and was not damaged during shipment (amazon.com included even more padding in their box).
I highly recommend this little webcam for the size, the image quality, and its durability. And amazon.com's price is great...especially with the rebate!
22 flimsy stand, substandard image quality
i've been using the quickcam 3000 for a few years now with good results. so i figured i wasn't taking any risks to buy the quickcam pro for notebooks. i use it on a thinkpad t41 with windows xp sp1 and the latest logitech drivers. the image quality is grainy. definitely worse than my old quickcam 3000. if i could i'd return this and look around for a cam with better image quality. i tried everything in the faqs from logitech with no improvements.
also, the clip-on attachment doesn't really clip...it just hangs on your lcd....the whole attachment system is very flimsy.
i'm unsatisfied. look elsewhere or wait until these issues are resolved.
23 Good Camera
This camera is good for its size. Low resolution, but OK for a web cam because a lower resolution means faster transfer. The short cord makes it good for laptops. It also holds to LCD screens for desktop computers (although you may need to buy a USB extension cord.
24 Piece of garbage
I can't even review the camera itself as the stand is so flimsy it prevented me from using the device. I purchased one, brought it home from the store, and found that the cheap stand had broken in the package. The store was kind enough to replace it, they took a new one out of its packaging to verify that it wasn't broken, and then I got home to find that the damn thing had broken during the trip from the store to my home. You would think it would be stupid to make an $80 camera and put a $.03 attachment mechanism on it, but that's what a genius mind at Logitech came up with. Don't waste your time on this junk, and think twice about buying ANYTHING from Logitech.
25 Good camera, bad attachment
Easy install, good picture, pretty good software, nice case for the bumpy road but lousy attachment mechanism. This really nneds to be fixed. Would be great if they provided some kind of optional clip on stand too.
26 Rocks with Panther:-)
I'm using Mac OS 10.3 (Panther) on my 12" powerbook and this webcam works perfectly well with Yahoo Messenger. The picture quality is quite good and the carrying case is convenient. I've also used BTV to capure video using this webcam...decent quality videos with sound! As most of the other reviewers have poined out, the mount is of flimsy design.
27 Great Webcam but fleaky on the laptop
This is a perfect webcam for laptops. The only thing I don't like is the stand.. After using it I got used to but, as an engineer, it is really hard to understand why somebody would design something so bad... Installation, picture quality (even under low light) is very satisfactory. I was using another Logitech before, this is definetely better. USB cable is shorter than others (i wish it was even shorter). And carrying case is very convenient.
I have searched couple of webcams and this one is definetely the best in my opinion. I'd definetely recommend.

This is my first webcam. I am very pleased. Easy installation, great picture quality and microphone pick up! I travel a lot and I love that this comes with a carrying case too! It works great with Yahoo Instant Messenger, haven't tried it yet with AIM. No glitches soo far. (...) I placed the order on 1/25/04 and received on 1/27/04!
29 Needs to attach better - hard to aim . . .
Easy install, great functionality but could use a better way to affix to the notebook as mentioned above. Suggest they redesign to include a closepin style device.
30 A little short of perfection
Just the usual complain. Wish it would attach better to the laptop and have some sort of clasp, rather than hanging by those plastic hooks. And needs to have some sort of stable stand as well for flat surfaces.
Otherwise, technically speaking, it's great! Captures images beautifully, doesn't need external power thereby reducing number of cables.
31 So much better than the altenatives, yet a little incomplete
This camera is a wonderful product, taking great quality pics and video. As others have mentioned the mounting system is extreemly clumsy and the camera easiy knocked off the screen if the usb cord is snagged (try using a mouse and not getting the cord tangled with the usb cable).
My solution? Ditch the stupid folding clip and stick a spot of velcro on the back of the cam and on the case of my laptop screen. Now it wont be pulled off so easily. If only Logitech made a bluetooth version, the tangling cord problem would be solved...
32 Great web cam
I purchased both, the 4000Pro and the Notebook Pro. The Notebook pro has great picture quality (even better than the 4000Pro, the desktop version). The only flimsy design is in the stand. Logitech could have come up with a better design for the stand, perhaps it should include an adaptor to make it work with tablet PCs, and a stand to place the camera on a flat surface. Otherwise it is a great buy.
33 Great Camera For Travelers With Notebooks
This camera takes excellent pictures (1280x960 stills and 640x480 video) even in low light where my other cameras have had problems.
It hooks over the top of the laptop screen and is held there by its own weight. This is a bit of a problem since mine often doesn't sit level and moves around if the cable (30" USB) gets moved. It says it will work with any laptop but the mounting won't acommodate the thickness of my Toshiba Tablet PC when it is in the tablet configuration. There is no provision for attaching a base or tripod so this is really a notebook (or flat screen) only camera. Overall the mounting system could be improved.
The mount folds into the metal camera shell and a flap covers the lense to protect it in transport. It even comes with a plastic clamshell case that the camera sits in with the cable wound around it. A nice touch.
There is some included software that looks nice but you need to download a third party codec for an additional $15 that you don't learn about until you try to use the software. This needs to be factored into the overall cost of the camera.
This is definately a camera you should consider of you travel with a notebook computer. I would buy it again.

36 I like it so much, I purchased two.........
This little baby is great (and I do mean little)! The picture is clear as a bell and setup was painless. We wanted them so while my wife was in AZ for 5 weeks training for her new job, our kids would be able to see her each night, using the included Yahoo video messenger program. I liked the design so much, we purchased a second one for our home computer, even though it is not a notebook. I just set it up using a picture frame, on top of our monitor. We had read the Logitech 4000 (the desktop version which had been our first choice for the second webcam) had a flimsy design, so rather than fight that issue, we just decided to stick with the notebook version.....no regrets yet!!!!!
