1 Quick Cam communicate STX
I bought this web camera and it works great send email video's sound and picture were great had fun using it, then I went to use my printer and it would not work said it did not reconize my computer so took the camera off and printer worked so then loaded the camera again and still the same thing so cannot use this camera with my printer unless I do not want my printer to work, Could someone who maybe had the same problem help me out.
Thanks so much PAT
2 Awful quality
I ordered this since I am moving away to college in the fall and I got myself the Logitech Notebook Pro which is a thousand times better. The picture quality is ridiculous and whenever I took a picture my computer crashed! I am returning this immediately!
3 Good for the price
Great camera for the price. The stand works well on a LCD monitor. Decent light and picture quality. I highly recommend unless you're a pro user.
4 First web cam!
This is the first web cam that I have ever bought. It actually surprised me that it installed and worked flawlessly out of the box. Works great with Yahoo messenger. However, for some reason when I recorded videos using the installed software it did not display the video (though the sound worked), nor did it work on windows media player. Luckily however, the vidoes work fine with QuickTime. I suspect this is something to do with the software I have installed on my computer as I don't use the Microsoft media player, or Internet Explorer. Probably nothing to do with the cam.
Quality of this cam works great. Its plug and play (after an easy install). I was on the net with no problems the first night I got it. Good value for the price and lots of fun!
Recommended.
5 As seen on Star Trek
First of all, this is probably what you are looking for, unless you want to be able to take photographs above 640 x 420 resolution, zoom or focus, but then you are looking for a pro webcam, and there are one or two here, but you are better spending your $100 in a digital photography shop. For the rest of you that just want a plug n' play digital camera that not only looks great but doesn't smash to pieces by the end of the week because it fell off the monitor, at an affordable price, actually very cheap for what it does, then the Logitech Quickcam Communicate WebCam is exactly what you need... and what everyone else owns.
Do not looks fool you. This black orb is just bigger than an egg and does not come on a flat triangle base as advertised, but a claw grip that you can bend around almost anything but is especially designed for LCD monitors, but has no problem with CRT or desks. In fact it has the same grip as the Quickcam pro model from Logitech and maybe if you look at this products photographs you can see it. Okay, so that is your stand. The camera itself looks like HAL from 2001. Pity the central camera lens doesn't glow red, ha aha. It even lights up blue on top when on. Very snazz camera, period.
The ball orb camera thing must click into the stand. The directions do not make this very clear and some may be inclined to just let the camera orb rest on the stand, but it clicks into place so that it can bend and rotate on its axis firmly attached to the claw grip. The cable is a direct camera to USB2 that runs about the height of an average person, so if you want it to see further you need a USB2 to USB2 extension. However the cable is adequate for most.
With XP driver installation is crazy at best. Do not use the windows drivers or the webcam may cause Windows crashing. Do not plug in the webcam. Insert the CD. Install the driver software. Then you are prompted to plug in your webcam and follow what Logitech tell you to do. Okay, now you have the camera set so you can take photographs and camera video with it. XP just crashes the cam if you do not use the Logitech drivers.
One last tip. Avoid lighting at the camera directly by using a reading light behind the camera aimed at you. This will boost your image quality considerably. The autofocus is near perfect for the price. You will not have to adjust this camera except to move it around.
In short, this is what you should have unless you want zoom, focus and high quality photographic images. You can use this for free with Yahoo messenger or MSN. 320 x 240 is a fine resolution to run at. This camera can do 640 x 420.
Just get it, call home, force them to upgrade to broadband and end those $100 transatlantic phone calls. FREE VID-PHONE if you have a microphone! In which case see into getting yourself a gaming headset or similar.
6 very practical camera
This camera seems to be one of the most practical I have ever used. Decent in low light. Decent pisture quality. But great when it comes to using it on a desktop, laptop, or even a flat screen monitor. The way it sits makes it very stable and sturdy. Its a sleek black color and very sharp. Built in mic gets good reception even from a distance. I use it for instant messenging and its the most ideal camera I have ever used.
7 Decent Camera Overall
This is a decent camera overall. It seems to the the midline Logitech camera, and it's very easy to set up. The software is pretty non-intrusive overall, which is nice, because I hate having to install extra stuff on my computer.
The camera gives a decent picture, and it is indeed a fixed focus, as was mentioned above. It comes with a little stand, and also another adapter thing for use on a notebook or thin LCD screen, which has been immensly helpful for me and my ThinkPad.
It works flawlessly with MSN Messenger, and the built in mic works fine, and according to the other end of the conversation, sounds better than a phone call, quality wise.
Overall I'd buy it again. If you need something simple, that is essentially plug-and-play after the small install, then get this camera.
8 o.k quality, but be aware
The overall picture quality is just so so. But be aware that it has only a fix focus. You are not able to adjust the focus, so objects out of the focus range are not clear. Frame rate is o.k though since it is USB 2.0
