1 Poor Video Quality
I have been using this webcam to chat with my husband while he's deployed in the military and I have to say I am not impressed with the poor video quality. He can barely see my daughter and I when we are talking to him online because it is so fuzzy looking. Plus the camera locks up constantly, regardless of our DSL connection. If I try to adjust the camera at all while using it online it freezes up as well.

One of the other reviewers was right when they said that it falls out of the stand easily, that happens with mine constantly.

We have had this camera for about a year and a half now and I am looking for a new one and sending this one to Iraq. I have made some short video clips and some still shots with it but they look pretty grainy for the most part.

Can't say I would recommend this or not, but I would definitely do my homework on this one and compare it to others before making a final decision on it. At the time of purchasing it, my husband did check around before getting this one, and was happy with it, but compared to some of the other cameras out there now I would think that there might be something better for your money.
2 good and bad
Okay, I got this camera about a year ago, and for the most part, it works fine for me.

Good-
The quality is pretty good, considering it's a webcam.
The microphone captures sound pretty clearly.
The software is easy to use.

Bad-
Sometimes when I am running livecam, it would be good quality and brightness and then suddenly it would be dark, like it would go a few shades darker for some reason, not sure why. And then I would have to adjust the lighting.

The stand sucks, it's hard to move the camera in different positions - sometimes I had to prop it up with something like a book or something to get it the right angle.

The quality of pictures/videos seems to vary. Sometimes the quaity would be crisp, other times it would be a little blurry, I'm not sure if it's the lighting or the camera. The videos - sometimes it'll be fast and clear, other times there would be lag.

All in all, I'm satisfied with this as a webcam, but if I really want to take pictures or make videos other than just webcamming or just a few simple pics, I would get something else.
3 Short lived
I bought this camera about a year ago and it worked pretty good. I stopped using it and stored it away for a while when I started using it again the picture was fickering then it quickly got worse. I have checked the cables for kinks checked my software install and even tried it on other PC's with the same results. I just prchased the Logitech Quickcam Pro 4000 and i'm hoping to have better luck.
4 Worst. Design. Ever.
While the Logitech Quickcam Pro 3000 is a pretty good webcam from an image quality perspective, the design is nothing short of horrible. The cam itself is an orb which sits on top of a cheap plastic stand. The cam is fixed to the stand by a thin plastic tube, which is used to rotate and adjust the camera. The problem is the tube constantly pops out when rotating the camera, making it a frustrating chore to do any kind of positioning. Overtime the hole in the base becomes stripped and the plastic tube may break. It's just plan bad.

Outside of the design, the image quality is pretty good. Nothing that cannot be found in cameras for half the price from Creative. The built in USB microphone is also a plus.

Overall it's not a good camera for the price and the cheap design ensures it will not last long. Avoid it.

5 when working it is great
picture quality is good.camera mounting is weak. You have to be very careful when moving as camera falls off easily. Needs to be improved.connectionwith others is sometimes awkward.
6 It looks funny...
And it just sits there and stares at me like an alien orb. I don't like this camera. Does anybody want it? You can have it. I haven't found much use for it. It also breaks fairly easily.
7 Pay less Great camera
I just got this camera today and It is Awesome.. I have no trouble at all to install it. The software is so cool and the most greatest thing about this webcam is the auto adjustment light. I tried to swith off my light and it still works well altough the only light it can get is through my monitor light but still the camera can adjust the color.. and when I switch on my light the camera makes its auto adjustment again..

I can say that this camera is not too expensive if we compare to others. The only reason I give this webcam 4 stars is because it has some problems with the msn messenger. For some reason I can't get it on.. and the stand of this cam. I think Logitech should make a stronger stand. Besides from those reason, I recommend you guys to buy this camera if you don't want to pay too much money and get a great webcam.

8 From Good to Great!
I used the original QuickCam Express when it came out years ago. I was familiar with the way this camera works.

All built on the primitive technology, Logitech has made a great product upgrade.

The mulit-dimensional-all-purpose uses that this product offers is well worth the 100 dollar price tag.

This is by far the best Consumer PC-Cam. (although it is also the highest priced).

I think its best attribute is the picture quality and the ability to manage the size of output. You can change the resolution to match your needs... Lower resolutions for faster downloads (and smaller file sizes) and higher resolutions for long lasting memorious occaisions.

It boasts some really cool features such as "sensory start up" which makes the camera start video taping (per say) when it sees something move in front of it... Great to spy on people, roomates, dogs, cats! See what everybody is doing when you're away... (you can also set the sensitivity of the built-in sensor: that is to say, it will only start video taping when a certain amount of movement occurs... It will also stop taping when movement ceases.)

The quality is so good considering that this is a 100 dollar pc-camera. I have a 400 dollar Sharp Handheld Video Camera and the quality of both are too close to tell.

Overall this is a really fun tool, and logitech's software is helpful, and easy to use rather than a burden on the user like most other pieces of software!

9 Simple fix for heavy USB cable & camera pops off base
Throw away the base that comes with this camera. Both the QuickCam Pro 3000 and QuickCam Pro 4000 cameras attach to its Logitech base with a little pin at the bottom of the camera. Simply unscrew this pin from the camera to remove it. Purchase an inexpensive standard 4" mini-tripod from a hanging rack in any good camera store (Ritz, National Camera Exchange, etc.) and screw the tripod into the camera. Best Buy only carries mini-tripods that don't have universal movement. Look for one that has a ball head, which will allow you to easily rotate and tilt the camera, locking a twist-pin when you are happy with your setting. No more problem with the camera popping off its base, or the heavy USB cable weighing it down and moving it out of your preferred adjustment. I bought a Quantaray brand from Ritz, but I'm sure there are many brands. The mini-tripod won't cost more than a meal for two at Burger King and you'll decide you absolutely love the camera, once these 2 little annoyances are finally the way they should have been designed in the first place! (I bought the 4000, so I'll post this message there as well.)
10 The 4000, sans zoom.
I bought the 4000 only because it offered a zoom feature not available on the earlier 3000, and because there was little or no price difference. My expectation for the webcam was to have a camera that would be a bit better than the MCI Videophones I bought a decade ago. I was pleasantly surprised to find that it's a *lot* better, thanks to better resolution (640 x 480), faster frame-rate (30 FPS)and of course more robust broadband connections. Set-up was very simple: I installed the Logitech software (running WinXP-home), rebooted the computer and then plugged the camera into the USB hub as per the onscreen instructions that followed the reboot.
In 2 minutes, I was up and running. The taskbar icon allows you to make any adjustments you want to the image settings and a somewhat imprecise rubber ring around the lens allows you to adjust the focus if necessary (it wasn't necessary). A very nice extra is the built in microphone, which is automatically set up during install and which does not require a separate mic jack (it uses the same USB connection as the video does). About the only complaint I have is the stand for the camera; it does not really lock the camera in very securely and therefore makes touching the camera (for example, to rotate the focus ring) a tricky, two-handed operation.
11 Great Web Cam - Good Quality - Easy Instillation
This is a great web cam, I highly recomend it.

Why did I give it 4 stars? Because there is one thing I dont like about it. Adjusting it. It is very hard because the cam head is so light, that the USB cord pulls it in different directions so you can't get a fixed easily. Just takes a little more effort :)

Software is great. I dont really need it though becuase I use MSN Messenger and use Net Meeting which works great.

I like how this is compatible with both Windows 98 and 2000. XP also.

One more thing....I was reading reviews about people saying in poor lighting its terrible. Actually, its not. It still works great, they are just sm0kin the ganja. :)

12 Pretty good web cam
I bought htis web cam about a month ago and use it for chatting online and also the occasional snapshot.

pros
====
- The picture quality is good in various light conditions, inlcuding low light. I do occasionally have to adjust the light in the room if there is a light directly behind or in front of the cam, but I just turn off 1 light and turn on another in a different spot in the room.
- It takes pretty good snapshots. Great if you want to take a picture of something and put it on the web (great for ebay).
- The software that comes with it is very easy to use, and useful. You can organize pictures in albums, make edits and notes on pics, can create short videos. and they make it very easy to attach them to an email. The cam settings are also very easy to adjust.
- Installed the first time right. Took 5 minutes from opening the box to chatting on yahoo via web cam
- Web cam also has a built in mic, but I havent used this feature yet.

Cons (most of these are minor annoyances)
====
- The usb cable on the cam is heavy and pulls down the back of the cam. so any time you move the cam, the cam angle will change. all thy need to do to fix this is make the ball joint on the base a little stiffer.
- I use the cam with my laptop and the attachment to clip onto a laptop is pretty useless if you have your laptop on your lap. Any movement of your laptop cause the cam to change angles (due to the heavy cable).

Overall, I'd recommend the camera to anyone who is looking for a web cam with good video quality. I havent tried others, but all the reviews i read say dont waste your time due to poor video quality in anything but optimum light. The extra 20-30 bucks is worth it.

13 Great cam!!!
Breezed thru the installation. Not a single issue. Good installation manual too. Not an experet in the area of photography but i would still say the quality of the pictures look great. Microphone is fantastic.
One negative is about the positioning of the camera and swivel feature. Not very stable and the USB cable weight pulls it around. Good be quite annoying.

A great buy.

14 Excellent webcam!
I upgraded to this cam from my IBM PC Camera Pro Max. I was having trouble getting my other cam to work with chat programs (namely Yahoo! IM) and I wasn't too impressed with my other cam's washed out picture, so I felt it was time to upgrade. I went with this cam even though some people weren't happy with it (i.e. Amazon reviews). I am fully satisfied with this camera. It has the best picture you'll find in this price range and the software that comes with it is both powerful and user friendly. The Logitech IM Video Companion is for MSN and AOL IM cam support. The motion detector is great for spying on others in the house, or a security cam our your window. Logitech still makes the best cams bar-none. I took a tip from a previous reviewer and bought my own Ambico tripod at [local store]. If you're looking for one, it's about 4 inches in length and comes in a small package that hangs on a wall in the camera department. Don't look for a big box, you'll not find it. It's well worth the investment. Why struggle with the flawed stand that comes with it? I had my tripod ready and waiting when my cam arrived---works great! I went with the refurbished one which has worked flawlessly so far. If you're looking for a cam with great picture quality and a nice software package look no further. Sure, there are lesser cams, but you get what you pay for.
15 You got the right one
Frist, let me say installation was quick and simple. The features are truly outstanding. If there is a better PC cam let me know.
I am truly impressed.
16 a good product with small shortcomings
I just got one QuickCam last week, I found it's a good product except some small shortcomings. Because I used it with a laptop, I cannot put it on the top of the monitor as a desktop. The position of the lens is not easy to fix, so I have to put a book behind it to fix the position.
The built-in Microphone is good enough to chat. The quality of the video is also good.
17 A decent entrant into the web cam market
I've been toying with this camera for a bit now and have found it to be a good camera, not great. The image quality is very good, and the software allows you to adjust to the type of light around you. The camera has a nice design, with sleek curving lines and a camera lens cover for additional privacy. A major disappointment for me was, at least for the one I received, the part connecting the camera to the base was not tight, with the result that the camera had a tendency to tilt backwards, pulled back by the weight of the USB cable. After some jury rigging, though, this problem was solved.

The bundled software is very good to get you going. However, I would have liked more software options or instructions in setting up the camera for web broadcasting. I was looking to experiment with doing some broadcasts, and the accompanying software, while useful and providing some trial time through SpotLife.com, I found it maddening for a while that I couldn't connect to other services. It was only after doing more research outside of the cam that I found more of what I was looking for.

Still, considering the quality, and the design, it's a solid value.

18 Good Quality Camera
This camera creates great quality pictures and videos. It was my first and only webcam, and I've had it for over a year, and have been rather satisfied with it. It doubles as a mini camera, so you can take pictures of you immediately and send it to friends quickly and easily. The quality is incredibly good compared to other webcams.

However, I have had some minor problems with the software that comes with the camera. Also, there isn't a zoom feature, so that can be a pain sometimes. Getting the correct lighting can also be a annoying, often having to toggle with the settings and the lighting for a little while for the picture to not be so dark, at least in my experience. The stands that are supplied with the camera aren't the best. Mine came with a "laptop" stand, and i find that easier to use than the traditional stand that is pictured with the camera, it moves less and is easier to get a good angle.

All in all, I suggest this camera. It's fun, and very easy to use.

19 A reliable webcam with a few drawbacks
I went through a couple of webcams before I got this one, so I think I am qualified, at least as an amateur user, to comment on the pros and cons of the Logitech Quickcam Pro 3000.

The Pros:

1. The installation was easy--worked like a charm on the first try. That's a plus when working with any peripheral device and Windows operating systems.

2. The software that comes with the camera works well, too. It allows you to capture, edit and enhance a video.

3.It is cute-looking. Very sleek.

4. It has a built-in microphone that works well.

The Cons:

1. Only medium to high light will give you good videos. Low light is out of the question. Before you say, "Well, I am not doing any low-light video work" think about backlight. That is, if you have a bright window, the room may be too dark by contrast to get a decent image.

2. The stand is poorly designed. It is hard to adjust the camera to just the right position. The long cable hanging from the back tends to drag the camera away from how you settled it. The stalk at the base of the camera that inserts into the stand is not easy to work with--tends to twist from the position you set it.

3. It is not ideal for NetMeeting. This is because it is defaulted to zoomed mode, which means you have to be further away from the camera--giving a fuzzier picture. The camera adjustments available in the Logitech drivers are inexplicably NOT available within NetMeeting, including the zoom setting. What a pain that is. So, for NetMeeting, I cannot recommend this particular camera.

If you want to do online gabbing, video back and forth with the grandkids on the weekend, or try your hand at a few video-web ideas, this camera is good performance for the price, and nearly anyone can get it up and running easily. But for harder tasks such as NetMeeting and low-light, or any critical positioning, this is not a good choice.

20 Great buy
Pro 3000 delivers all that the packaging promises . If you are the gadgety type you'll have hours of fun.

The features that appeal to me from my use so far are the instant emailing which means your videos , pictures etc are compressed and ready to share within minutes.

It delivers a sharper image than most webcams I've tried

I'm also quite taken by the built in microphone , however I must mention that its not as great as a stand alone Mic when chatting on yahoo etc . But the sound is ok for recording a video ...which Is its primary purpose I suppose.

All in all ....its fun, great quality and easy to use .

21 Works perfect with Windows XP
I was affraid it would not work with Windows XP Professional edition. I first downloaded the last software version from Logitech web site (I did not used the CD that came with the camera), then I pluged it in and it started working wonderfull.
22 good image, but a few annoyances...
The camera works well for images and even video, keeping in mind that it requires a lot of light (normal). The microphone stopped working shortly after I got it, and it might be because I plugged an external microphone into the PC. In any case, the 'built-in' mic hasn't worked since, although it was convenient at first.

My main annoyance is the camera sits on a tiny pivoting ball, and it's hard to keep it in the desired position since the cord at the back weighs it down. It's actually fallen off several times.

23 Great picture and video capabilities
The pictures and video are very clear. Very easy to use. I couldn't have asked for a better Quickcam and the programs that come with it are beyond words... Everything is there, just hook it up and go...
24 Just a comment to the 1 Star Review
256 colors is only 8 bits of color, so you weren't even setting your color settings right. No wonder it didn't work for you!
25 Disappointing.
This product, to put it bluntly,[disappointing]. I keep getting it installed but when I click on the icon to get it started it says that I need to adjust my color settings to 16 bit or higher, which its already on 256. It obvioucly doesnt acknowledge it and wont let me do anything without adjusting it, which I have countless times. I cant return it since its past the warantee date so I wish there is hope for it yet...
26 Cheap solution for the stand problem...
The Logitech Quickcam Pro 3000 is a great webcam--great picture quality, great feature package (I find the motion detector and built-in mic particularly useful). As noted in several other reviews, however, the stand that comes packaged with the Quickcam Pro 3000 leaves something to be desired. To be blunt: the stand is functionally worthless, and Logitech should know better than to pair a top-of-the-line webcam with such seriously flawed accessory equipment.
If you own this cam (or any cam with a standard female screw-mount base) an excellent and inexpensive mounting option is the Ambico V-0615 Multi-Purpose Mini-Tripod. This 4.25 inch tripod fits the cam perfectly and allows free rotation and swivel, yet is also able to be locked into position. I'd recommend this as an absolute "must have" accessory to anyone purchasing this cam. With the addition of the tripod, the cam is near perfect; without the tripod, using the cam is extremely tedious at best.
27 Great cam
I just bought this camera (except my dogs chewed it up so now I have to replace it) and it is great. The only problem I see is that it is very hard to focus it on you because it is so light. The cord in the back often pulls on it but what I did is put in a new plug that plugs the camera into the stand that is alot tighter.

I have no clue what so ever about what few people are saying about they could not download it to their computer they probably dont have all of the requirments because I just bought a new cpu from dell and it took me about 1 and a half minutes to install. The picture is great and if you are trying to make a picture and it comes out jacked up, it isnt the camera, you just have to focus the lens by twisting it. When I was looking at buying a cam for 40 bucks I wasnt sure about all of what the reviews said and I am "definately" glad I got this one. I even know of one site that sells the lower version of the logitech camera for 15.00 (justdeals.com) but I really doubt if it is worth it. I still do not know what the button does on the top but I dont see any use for anything extra and If you get the camera when your making a movie try not to touch the microphone or it will make a whole bunch of static. This camera was great for the money, and personally I wouldn't see the difference in getting a 100 dollar one because this is all I need.

28 Great one!
I just got the QuickCam today. I was hesitated when I bought because some of the reviews weren't that great. I bought it anyway. This is my first webcam, so it's only natural when I was afraid something would go wrong when I install it. But it turned out it was so easy to do the installation. All I had to do was put the CD in my laptop drive, and followed all the steps. I'm using Windows ME, by the way.
The only problem I'm having is with the light. Sometimes it's too bright. I think I'll need more time to figure out how to adjust it.
The webcam is very light, with long USB cord.
I think this one worths the price.
29 logitex webcam
excellent service, thank you, amazon.com. now we can see not only hear with my whole family.
30 A must get for pc camera users (no b.s.)
Ok guys im gonna give it you straight... down and dirty. I have a Gateway AMD-K6 500Mhz processor with 56Ram. I was a little skeptical of buying this camera because the previous reviews were full of mixed opinions and didnt help me very much. But people, this camera is a must if you want to buy a pc camera. When i first opened the package, the software was all nice and neatly package for easy installation as well as storage. Secondly, installation was a piece of cake. I had no problems and was using my camera in a matter of minutes. I've heard that most people with Windows2000 have problems with the Logitech cams, but with this one i dont think thats true. I have WindowsME and even though i hate ME, as far as the compatibility is concerned, the camera work absolutely wonderful. Its small, the picture clarity is amazing, and the software is so easy to use that even beginners can make videos in a snap. You can also use it for Netmeeting video conferencing (which is a plus), and motion sensor buy itself sells the camera. Im telling you... if there is any review that you feel you should get advice from...choose mine. Because this camera is absolutely a must buy.

But of course their is one con about the camera: You have to pay to use the cam for live video feeds and for webcam webpages. So if you are look for a camera to use over the internet as for your voyuerism goes or just to have a webcam over the net... i would "strongly" suggest another cam. Other than that... buy the cam and i promise you wont be disapointed.

31 Too much trouble for the cost
...I thought this was a worth while web camra, so I bought it. However... I cant even download it onto my computer! Now I have to buy another type of webcam, well if you do buy this camra I hope what happened to me wont happen to you.
32 GOOD-LOOKING GADGET
As a lifelong technophobe it's taken me a while to get used to computers and the internet but I'm getting there. This is the first webcam I've bought and after using it for a few weeks with no problems, I'm very impressed with what it can do.

Much to my relief I was able to install the Quickcam software without a hitch, and after connecting the USB cable to my pc the webcam was fully operational within minutes (I have an Intel 650MHz processor and am running MS Windows 98 SE). The picture quality is excellent compared to other webcams I've seen and taking photos and recording video clips couldn't be simpler. Once you've created them, you can edit and enhance your images using PhotoSuite III SE or VideoWave III SE, and sending the results by email is also remarkably easy.

The QuickCam Pro 3000 has a built-in mic, which is especially useful for video conferencing over the web. Here the performance quality can vary greatly, but this is to some extent inevitable regardless of which webcam you use. Yahoo Messenger is bundled in with the software and installs automatically whether you like it or not, which wasn't a problem for me, but if you're already using another package you might find this a bit irritating. I tried using the webcam with MSN Messenger/Netmeeting and it worked just as well.

One possible drawback is the fact that the Quickcam software will only allow you to broadcast video and audio over the web via a third party host site (Spotlife.com). So if you're buying a webcam with a view to doing this via your own website, you'd be better off getting one which includes this functionality by default.

But I'm personally very happy with the Quickcam Pro 3000 (call me shallow, but it also looks pretty cool) and it was definitely money well spent.

33 decent but could be better
This camera has everything you could need in a webcam. Works with XP home edition set-up went well, haven't had any compatability problems but the stand on the camera to say the least it [stinks]. It broke off because i pushed it back on and broke off. It would fall off the stand even when i wasn't there. It has no bonding and mechanical fastening to the base. but all the features are very good i give it 3 stars.
34 Awesome cam, but....
Ok. I would have to say I was getting a pretty good vibe from everyone on this cam and their good remarks on it, trying to take into account of what the bad comments were. So I went out and got this cam. Very nice features on the software that comes with it. Motion sensor capability for when you're not home to keep an eye on the joint or to watch what's going on anywhere.

I just rounded up my stars for that point. now the reason I would have given it a 3.5 or even a 3 is this one point : Odd Windows2000 reaction. After I installed the camera, Windows2000 Pro just WOULD NOT START. I mean, not even get to the screen showing the Win2k start up and the status bar going across... NOTHING. So I unplug the sucker and reboot. Started up fine, finished installing some software that came with the Cam. I plug it back in and it runs. So that's the only down point, if I wanna reboot, I have to unplug the camera on my system. I don't know how it'll react to Win98/ME/XP, but if it does the same there as it did to me, try what I did. If it works fine, kudos! You picked a good cam! Odd that the 640x480 capturing doesn't show up in a 640x480 window in the Logitech software. But I'm sure I haven't played around enough with it all to get that to show up.

35 Great all around Camera
This is a great little webcam for the cost. I can take videos, e-mail videos, time lapse videos and still shots. You can also cut portions of your videos out and save separately to send a smaller file of something you really enjoyed recording. I recorded my 18 month old son eating his dinner on timelapse and sent it to some family and friends and they absolutely loved it.

It's fun and takes pretty darned good still shots. It takes nice images to post in on-line auction sites as well, if you're selling something and don't have a digital camera. Nice little built in microphone that came in really handy for me since I didn't have one on my computer.

It's hearty, durable and fun!

36 Doesn't work, waste of money
The Software (both released and updated off the web site) wouldn't install on Windows 2000. The tech support is by email, and is miserable (2-day response time). Followed the directions given me by tech support, and broke Windows so badly had to reinstall a "clean" copy (which trashed all my other programs, which then had to be reinstalled). Two days wasted fixing my machine.
37 Great webcam
I have had this product for a little while and would say it is the best webcam I have used. It has a built in mic, which is great, the picture quality is great, the software is easy to use (once you download the update), the security cam feature is great, I just love this webcam.
38 Have to adjust the colors constantly
I have had problems with the auto color adjustment. The gain is always too dark or too bright. I have to set it manually to get the colors right, otherwise, the colors are too intense and not right.
39 don't buy this camera
i shopped around online for a couple of weeks before i decided to buy the quickcam pro 3000. i was debateing on buying an intel because it was cheaper but decided to go with this because of the built in microphone, and i thought that maybe because it was a little more expensive it was a better camera. my computer freezes all the time now. in fact, my computer, which never before froze, froze 3 times while trying to instal the thing. someone told me there could be a driver conflict, but even when i went to the website and got a different instalation, it still freezes my computer when i use it 75% of the time. i have a very fast computer with a very fast connection but it goes so incredibly slow when trying to stream (live, contiuous video) - and this is to other people with fast computers and connections. when the camera is not sending footage, it shows excellent footage on my screen, virtually no problems in continous action. i can't figure out how to make it have better coloring. this drives me crazy. all of the pictures and footage are non-vibrant and bland. i have tried different lightings to no avail. i can't seem to use it with netmeeting either. don't buy this camera.
40 3 star average rating completely unfair
The video and picture quality on this webcam is just plain excellent compared to many of its alternatives. The installation was no difficulty on my machine, which operates under Windows 2000 Pro. The USB connectivity makes things simple, and installation software is straightforward. If you are looking for webcams, consider spending the money on this one, because it is definitely worth the price. I recommend, however, that you have at least one completely free motherboard native USB port, if you want the bandwidth required to capture video with sound; this is an issue that affects all webcams with USB connectivity.
41 It looked good but the sound was far from perfect
I got this product about two weeks ago, and was able to load it with no problem. The picture was crisp and the amount of light required was less than the previous 'Cam owned. I believed that there was no difficulty with this purchase. However, the next day I discovered that the Sound Card on my system, a TurtleBeach from Santa Cruz, did not work well; in fact it produced NO SOUND at all. I was no longer able to hear all the amusing banter found in EA Sports NHL 2002. Beacause this product was already OPENED and USED (the two provisions of the Return Policy), I gave the Logitech 3000 Pro to my brother.
I am running a Dell Dimension 4100 with a 1 GHz Pentium III processor.
42 Good design but didn't work
could not get it working with my dell computer system 550mgz. called there support and they could not get it working also. returned it for a refund and bought a ibm pc cam, loaded it up on computer and it works fine.
43 Worth it....
This is my first experience with a webcam. I did do some research before purchasing.

It arrived last night and I had it working on my 3 year old laptop (Win98) in an hour. That's including both Logitech software AND downloading third party software from the Internet...I was up and running in no time. I'm impressed with how this little plastic ball handles low/difficult lighting, and I'm a pretty experienced photographer.
I haven't tried the mic, yet, except for offline test. If that is OK, boost my rating to 5 stars. Yes, the swivel could be tighter, but you don't have to be a rocket scientist to figure out to leave a little slack in the cable so it doesn't pull on the camera.
If only it had a power zoom lens, built-in light, and wireless connection...guess I can't have everything!

44 Nice but.
Three (3) problems: (1) there's no way of stablizing the cam on its base - movement of the cable causes the cam to swivel. (2) Can not get the built in microphone to work with NetMeeting, and (3) it stops working in the middle of a session under Windows XP Professional. Problems could partially be due to OS (Operating System) and potential system conflicts.
45 Solid Performer for Most Applications
The Logitech QuickCam Pro 3000 delivers most of what it promises. It is an easy-to-use solution for video conferencing. It provides the ability to create, edit and send digital video and stills. And--strictly speaking--it does provide for webcams and the broadcast of streaming video.

The camera supports true 640x480 resolution at up to 30fps (actual performance will depend on the speed of the computer) and features a built-in microphone. The camera and microphone both perform well. Bundled with the QuickCam Pro 3000 are versions of two MGI software packages: PhotoSuite III SE and VideoWave III SE. These are simple and effective programs for editing still images and video clips, respectively. Overall, the software provided in the bundle is quite good.

However, a couple of things detract from the package. First, while the installation is normally quite simple, support for problem installations can be difficult to obtain. Also, the setup utility installs several third-pary applications and utilities without an option to opt-out.

More troubling is the fact that the QuickCam software purposely and explicitly will not support webcams or video broadcast to any site other than Spotlife, a commercial third-party provider (although previous versions of the QuickCam software did support this). So, if you buy the QuickCam Pro 3000 with an eye towards cheaply and easily implementing a web cam on your existing site, you're in for a disappointment. To do this, you have three choices: take a spin with freeware, pay for a third-party webcam software package, or opt for a different camera solution that includes this functionality.

Finally, the USB cable attached to the camera gets a big plus for being nice and long (better than 8 feet), but the heavy weight of the cable, combined with the loose swivel joint on the camera, make it difficult to keep the camera pointed "just so." I've resorted to tape to keep the camera pointed where I want it.

If your main goal is to set up a webcam on your web site, you may want to look further. But for other applications, the QuickCam Pro 3000 is good performer and a decent value. -- Scott Loban

46 mmmm great
It's really easy to use and the pictures come out so well... I'm a satisfied customer :)
47 Disappointing! Never got it to work
We spent 18 hours on Christmas Day trying to set up the camera. My husband & I are pretty technical, but could not get this camera to work on our Windows 98 system.
Our system locked up and would not boot up while the camera was plugged in.
Also - we primarily wanted to use this for video chats. Other reviews indicate that the software does not support this function. Technical support (Not toll-free) was busy. We're sending it back.
48 Fun toy
It works fine with Windows ME. Installation was a snap. Be sure to look at the minimum requirements if you have an older computer. I have not added any of the extra software yet. You can use with Yahoo Messenger (free) and see other people on your buddy list or be seen, if you wish. In addition to video, you can also use the audio on Yahoo, but I found the quality lacking. You can also subscribe to spotlife and be seen in real time - the first 30 days are free. I found it easier to set up next to my computer positioned on a round CD-R pack, (perfect height) than on top of the monitor.
49 Forget It!!!
Purchased camera and was excited about those who have succesfully installed and used. I spent 5 1/2 hours trying to install and I consider myself tech savvy. I Went through all tech support and still nothing. It is going back to the store. I was using Windows ME and have never had any trouble with ME. The Biggest problem I had was the step during installation where it detects the camera. Never Happened! Keeps locking and giving me a solid blue screen after restart.
50 Fun to use... when it works.
The Logitech Quickcam Pro 3000 is simple to use as well as versatile. The camera can be set on a flat surface with its curved, removable shoe attachment. It can also be affixed to the top of a notebook PC utilizing an included adjustable mini tripod that resembles an elongated claw. Once configured the USB cam is easily focused by adjusting the concentric collar of the lense. I found Logitech's software a bit troublesome however. At first I wasn't able to install the camera on my laptop using the version of Quick Cam that came with my Pro 3000 and had to download a newer version from Logitech's website in order to get the unit up and running. It worked fine until I recently upgraded to the newest version of the software from their website. Now I face the same problem: the camera just won't work. Even worse, the older version of the software is no longer available on the websight. I am now "cam-less".
51 Very Good Product
I did some research on these types of cameras, whether to buy the camera which comes off the base or hard wired like this one, but decided on the Pro 3000 since I found that this one was one of the best of its type. Read many reviews about the problems with the software, but this seems to be common with any of these type cameras. I had a small problem loading the software but after a short while it loaded and worked fine. For its price it gives a good picture and is easy to use. I didn't get the kind tha comes off the base since there you start to worry about memory and pixals, and at that point you might as well get a decent digital camera. Hope this is helpful to all.
52 questionable!
Just received this product and spent all night trying to install it. After being on hold for over 30 minutes (long distance)I hung up and gave up. Finally got ahold of them this morning only to spend an hour long distance with tech support going through my computer with a techie,... still does not work! My guess its not compatible with windows98. She recommended trying on another computer to see if my computer was the problem. I asked her if other people were having the same problem, she said yes. I am now on my way to return this product and either wait for them to fix their software or look for a different product.
53 Webcam
I like the product, but the one thing that kinda bites is the fact that the camera is on a pivot from the frame and the cord, is heavy which will make positioning it difficult.
54 Garbage.
The software does not work on windows 98 SE. I attempted emailing for support and it had been 2 weeks and no response yet. They must be overwhelmed with emails and calls about how terrible their product is. I bought this camera to send video emails and that program does not work. All in all the product is garbage go another way.
55 Works great with XP
Drivers are availible on Logitech's website. Great camera!
56 Quickcam not bad, but could be better
I got Quickcam Pro 3000 a few weeks ago. First, what I don't like about it:
- The stand is not very adjustable. The stiff and heavy cable tends to pull the camera out of adjustment unless the cable is carefully positioned. You can't adjust the tension of the stand. It would be nice to have the ability to disconnect the cam from its stand and attach it to a standard tripod.
- The webcam software is worthless, allowing you to only upload images to a particular webcam hosting site (spotlife.com). I recommend Webcam32 if you are going to work with your own web site.
- When installing, I had to have my OS CD (Win98 SE, in my case) on hand, probably for certain drivers. I didn't have the option to install from anything other than the Win98 CD (e.g., from a win98 directory or from the internet).

What I like about it:
- Picture quality is pretty good.
- Small.
- USB.

Be aware that you have to have a powered USB hub if you are going to plug in the cam to that hub.

All in all, a fun little cam. I'd give it 3.5 stars if Amazon would let me. ;-)

ps: Works w/Win2000, too.

57 Doesn't work with XP
Installed the QuickCam Pro 3000, downloaded the files...which took about 2 hours. I spent about 3 hours, on the phone with Logitech Support (no 800 number I may add) and the result = zip! They were unable to help, in installing this product. The cost of the long distance phone calls and the time spent exceeds the price of the cam! WOW. A rip off of time and money!
58 exactly what I needed
I don't know much about webcams so I can't give you a professional opinion. This is the first webcam I got and I wanted something that wasn't too expensive, but still high quality. I went to [stores] and had the people working there give me some recommendations and opinions. I had also researched a little online on different webcams, prices, quality, and video resolution. I finally came and decided to buy this one. It was a little more expensive than what I was originally willing to spend on, but I have to admit, the quality and picture is crisp and clean. It even fixes difficult lightening situations and automatically corrects. It also comes with a lot of software for you to edit your pictures, or create a card and send to family and friends. It took me about 5 minutes to set up as well. All I had to do was install the software, plug in the USB cord, and the program box popped up and I was ready to go. I give it 5 stars for good quality, easy installation, and useful software. I'm actually glad I spent a little extra money. I don't want to waste my time by getting a bad quality, cheap webcam and being disappointed and eventually going out and spending even more money to get a good one. If you have the cash, GET THIS ONE!!
59 Research shows good favor of Logitech Quickcam Pro 3000
After researching for a reasonably priced webcam, the Logitech Quickcam Pro 3000 is the winner. It has an integrated microphone and handy clamp which will attach up to a 1" thick surface. This camera uses Picture Smart technology which improves the quality of pictures in different lighting situations. Easy connection via your USB port is also an advantage.

When I wrote this review the picture was not available, but after my research I found that it is a silver and grey ball mounted on an handy swivel base.
