Features
With Logitech's WingMan Formula Force GP Wheel with Pedals, you can experience what really happens on the racetrack. The force-feedback steering wheel lets you feel the road, bumps, walls, and crashes. The custom-designed wheel shape includes rubber handgrips for comfort and precise steering control. Two wheel-mounted gear shifters allow for quick gear changes while staying in control. Four programmable buttons provide easy control of car functions and view changes. The space-saving console design takes up minimal room on your desktop and holds the wheel tight and secure with a dual clamping. The WingMan Formula Force GP Wheel includes realistic gas and brake pedals mounted on a weighted base and a nonslip, textured floorboard to provide your feet with better traction and to prevent slippage. The WingMan Formula Force GP Wheel requires a USB connection and works on the PC platform.
1 Get it!
I ordered the Logitech Wingman Formula Force GP w/ foot pedals on a late Sunday afternoon, using the super saver free shipping. I believe Amazon reports that the free shipping takes 7 - 9 days to be delivered? Tuesday afternoon at 4pm, almost exactly 48 hours later, the wheel was at my house! It arrived in a brand new, excellent, unscathed condition.

I took the wheel out and mounted it to the lip of my computer desk using the two screw down plastic clamps provided underneath the wheel. I thought the clamps looked flimsy, and would probably break easily! However, I have been playing for days now and the wheel is completely stable and does not move nor suffer from "plastic flex"! Just make sure you do _not_ overtighten them when you screw them down! Just get them secure, they WILL hold if you do it properly. I find the wheel to be the perfect size for my desk, I can keep it attached and use my keyboard and mouse without any problems at all.

Next, I positioned the foot pedals on the floor. My desk has a bottom board, and I put the foot pedals up against it so they won't slide. They have a jack similar to a telephone, and it plugs directly into the righthand side of the wheel. The A/C adapter plugs in next to the phone-jack type port for the pedals, and is very lightweight!

Then, I started up my computer and installed the software. You put the disk in, and it comes up with a menu that lets you install it. If you already have another Logitech device, such as a Wingman joystick, then you don't need to install the software! It uses the same stuff! Once the software is installed, you simply plug the USB connector into your computer, and POOF! The system will immediately make any changes it has to, and you can start using your wheel! I would strongly suggest a calibration before use.

The wheel and pedals are very durable, and work flawlessly. The paddle shifters are easy to reach and use! I find the best game to use this wheel with is Need for Speed: Underground. They make a great combo.

It takes a slight breaking in period to get used to using a wheel. While it makes the game very realistic, remember that it is still up to the game programmers to provide good game physics for using it! I've also played with a Microsoft Force Feedback wheel at a friend's house, and I like this Logitech a lot better!

2 Microsoft Wheel is better
This wheel is perfectly centered, until you plug in the usb. Then it goes off center by almost 45 degrees. It has a grinding feel like it needs to be oiled. It also sqeaks when turning. Driving with the wheel off center makes it harder to reach the buutons. Go Microsoft.
3 Little too jerky
Overall a good buy for the money. Wheel is very jerky and too sensitive in Nascar racing and Indy Car racing. Turning on Steering assist in Nascar racing smooths things out but some online leagues don't allow this. Pedals are OK. Spaced very well. Brake pedal feels very sensitive.
4 Clearly the worst wheel I've ever bought.
There are many bad things about this wheel. For 1, whenever you turn it, it turns way to far to the side, and the car you are driving goes off the track. Another thing is, the pedals don't work very well. When you push even a millimeter dow on the gas pedal, the car speeds way up. Also, the brake/reverse pedal doesn't work at all. You have to reset the car if you want to reverse. On some games, the gas apedal and thebrake/reverse pedal don't work at all. When this happens, the car just speeds ahead, and there is no way to slow it down. Never the less, the wheel doesn't break easily, and it has rumbel built in. If you want a good wheel, then I advise you to by one without pedals.
5 Good Starter Wheel
I've been using this wheel for a little over a year now, and it provides excellent connectivity and responsiveness. The forcefeedback, while not as strong or convincing as the newer MOMO wheel, offers good "feel for the dollar" value. In games such as Colin McRae 2.0, Rallisport Challenge, and F1, the feel of the wheel is quite good, and having been on the market for at least a couple years now, all the bugs are worked out of the drivers and support from Logitech. It won't increase your upper body strength like the MOMO, but still an excellent wheel for racing.
6 Pedals Break
Although this steering wheel is a good wheel to race with it does have a major drawback. The pedals are cheap plastic and usually break within 2 months. When this happened on my first one, about 2 years ago, Logitech replced it twice (it comes with a year warranty). When the brake pedal broke this time I replaced it with the same wheel because Logitech stood behind its product and it still came with a year warranty. Unfortunately the gas pedal broke within 2 months and Logitech no longer honors the year warranty for breaking pedals. I will not buy another of this brand.
7 Pretty good wheel
Very good wheel... works great with all my driving games IE Midtown Madness 1 & 2, NFS Hot Pursuit 2 and it definately helped out in Midnight Club 2. Overall.... its a very good reasonably priced wheel.
8 Good Wheel Even Better price
I don't think you can find a better wheel for the price. The wheel feels very solid with good force feedback. I wish it would mount a little more securely and there is no good way to secure the pedals but overall this wheel kicks.... It also works with the playstation 2 which is a major selling point if you play PC and PS2 games.
9 A lot of bang for the buck
Okay, I'm in my mid 50s and copy of Need For Speed jumped off the shelf into my cart the last time I went shopping. I installed the game and played it for awhile, first using the keyboard (can't be done), and then using a flight yoke I have. That was okay, but braking and accelerating was difficult, and I was all over the place as the yoke just didn't cut it.

Anyway, I was now addicted to this stupid game, so I searched Amazon.com for a "real" steering wheel. After checking the customer reviews I settled on this one. I don't plan on using it all the time, so I didn't want to spend a fortune, and for a few extra bucks the force-feedback feature seemed like it would be fun. It is.

The unit installed easily in Win 98, but I have to agree with another reviewer that the wiring on this thing is nuts. The pedals are already on the floor, so why not attach all the cables to that, then run one cable to the wheel? Also, the USB cable from the wheel to the computer isn't very long. I'll probably pick up an extension, and you may need one, too.

I had no problems with the pedals moving around, as some others said, but I have this really cheap carpeting in my office that I think helped. Also, the wheel clamps securely to just about any desk, but if you have a slide out keyboard drawer, like I do, you may have problems. Many games require use of the keyboard, and I can't pull mine out when the wheel is attached. I had to move the keyboard out of the drawer to get to it.

As for play: The wheel makes driving games a lot more fun. It has a good feel to it, the feedback isn't bad, but like another reviewer admitted I'm also spoiled. I have a Porsche 911, and this wheel and a game can't come close. I can tell when I'm off the road, and I can tell when I've hit something, and there's even some road feel (when I drive over cobblestones the whole desk shakes), but it's not even close to the real thing. Not that I would know what it feels like to hit a lot of trees, fences, and other cars. We're simply talking road feel here.

Still, it's a lot of bang for the buck, and they even give you a free game with it. You'd think they'd give you something that would really show off the wheel, but they don't. However, for [the price]the combination of the wheel and the game is a damn good deal. Even better when you discover that older versions of Need For Speed, and similar programs, are really cheap.

I should admit that I have not compared this wheel to any others. The four star rating is based on the four star grin on my face, and the fact that I felt it was a bargain. At least if it winds up on a shelf after awhile I won't glance over at it thinking about all the money I wasted.

Oh, yeah. I ordered this from Amazon with the free shipping option and it arrived in only two days! That kind of service is hard to beat.

10 Good product, but...
First, let me say this is a really nice product. I bought it for my kids to use with their various racing games. It works really well and installed quite easily. The bad news is that the force feedback feature works with precious few games.
11 Best I found
I tried several wheels and all seemed to have their draw backs. Even the Microsoft wheel which was [$$$]. I think this is the best one. The wheel does slip a little on my desk, but so did the SideWinder. I placed some rubber under the wheel for a little more support. For the money I feel the wheel is better than the rest I've tried and about half the price. It makes all my racing games a lot more fun. Enjoy
12 Review for Mac users
This review is for Macintosh users. This steering wheel is an excellent choice. It works very well with both MacOS 9 and OS X. However, the force feedback feature only works with OS X 10.2.3 and higher, and only on some games (of course). I know the force feedback feature works with F1 2000 Championship Season, which I also recommend.

Yes, the wheel is a little on the small side, and the pedal base does slide too easily. One other complaint is there are too many cords. There's a USB cable that connects the wheel to your USB port. There's another cable which connects the wheel to the pedals, and a power cable which connects the wheel to an outlet. It would have been better if the power cable connected to the pedals, which are already on the floor. Also, after I kept the power cord plugged in for a few days, my computer failed to recognize the wheel. I had to leave it unplugged overnight to recover.

The wheel attaches which clamps to the front edge of your desk. There isn't room in front of my monitor for both the keyboard and the wheel. I need to move my keyboad to the side of the monitor, which makes it difficult to use both the keyboard and the wheel at the same time.

One advantage for Mac users is that you won't need to install any drivers. It also comes with a racing game on another CD-ROM, but that's for PC only. So just ignore the CD-ROMs that comes with the wheel.

The resistance on both the wheel and the pedals is nice, and it does feel well-built. It's a complex controller, so if treated well it should provide years of service. I would buy this wheel for any Mac gamer.

13 Good Product overall
Comes with a USB connector. I don't know about compatibility with PS2 and all since I don't have one. Easy to install once you go through the included software/driver. Does come with an extra racing game that doesn't support this wheel, so I am a little mystified by that.
The red part you see on the wheel is rubbery for better grip. I have relatively big hands and have no complaints about the size of this wheel. Set up is easy with the clamps, you can get it down pretty tight with just your fingers. The force feedback feature is definitely cool, makes you (at least your hands and arms) feel the bumping and sliding. The gas/brake station is not held down by any extra device, so it slides a little more than I'd like, but maybe you have better luck with different flooring. Requires power supply and three different wires to hook up, can get messy.

Very good product overall, I think you will enjoy it as much as I do, certainly beat the heck out of gamepads, joysticks, or keypad.

14 Great, perfect, best buy
I bought it a long time ago now (almost 2 years maybe) and I have been using it on my PC, the USB connector is simply "simple" to use, I used it on some F1 and Rally games.

Even MORE! the wheel is PS2 compatible so I play GT3 with it every since I discovered it......I didn't even know it was compatible until I saw a drawing of the PS2 wheel and saw it was a Logitech brand........I just connected it and it did work! Amazing!

I agree with another review when I say that it slips a little, but I managed to use a "basement" with books and some boxes, I can put it on a very comfortable position now.

Now for the feeling....ever drove at 200mph? well, so far I have reached 85mph only and I can tell you something, the problem is not the wheel, is the seat....it is great to feel the apexes, the bumps, the ground, I cannot imagine what else can you feel with just your hands. Try to play with some real gloves, balaclava and helmet and tell me what you feel now!

I am looking forward to GP4, TOCA3 and any other racing game I can play and hopefully God will bless me with an eternal whell for the decades to come.

15 Awesome!!
If you are in the market for a high-quality wheel that won't break your wallet, get this wheel! I've had one for 2 years, never had 1 problem with it. It gets used daily. This wheel gets 5+ stars.
16 Great Toy....Great Price Not At Amazon[.com]
the steering wheel is awesome, ...
17 Ok, but it's not really like driving, is it?
This wheel does everything it's supposed to, and at a good price. Install was easy and it's one of the few that are compatible with Windows Me. I have a few problems with it.

The mounting brackets are a little slick and my desk is also, so it kept slipping out of place.
I also could not get the pedals to stay put, again on a slick floor, but I suppose one could rig up a system to keep it solidly planted.
The feedback is nice, but merely shaking the wheel isn't the same as real road feel. It's still impossible to feel when tires are about to let loose, so the feedback is mostly just a gimmick, not an aid to driving well in a sim.
All force feedback wheels and pedals are bulky and cumbersome to store when not playing. With the various cords running everywhere, it's just not pracical to set up to play on a whim.

This is the problem with any computer driving simulation, not the wheel, however. It's simply not possible to design a system that can realistically simulate driving a car. And when I stopped to think about it, I realized that I didn't really need to play at driving. I have a car, a BMW 540i! I guess I'm spoiled by that. It can be fun to drive at super fast speeds on a computer, but for me, the fun wore off fast. I prefer more reasonable speeds and reality. No force feedback wheel can recreate the emotional and physical rush of accelerating from 0-60mph in less than 6 seconds, or carving corners smoothly w/o the jerkiness of a computer sim.

18 Logitech WingMan Formula Force GP Wheel with Pedals
This is a very good steering wheel but i think amazon should lower the price to about [amt] i saw it in a computer store for [amt] it is good though.
19 unit is compatible w/ps2
since Grand-Turismo3 comming out and this new steering wheel and all, I thought I'd give it a try buying one of these steering wheels to play with GT-3. shopping around for it and everyone being sold out a friend told me about this one. I bought it, hooked it up, and what do you know, IT WORKED! This wheel is compatible with the PS-2. That's if you don't care about the free speakers! So just look at it this way, it can be used on your computer too! So you don't have to waste your money on two wheels! Enjoy!
20 Great Product -- Works With Playstation 2 --
Feel what you've been missing. I always hated the racing games, because "It never handles like the real thing". Well, now I love the racing games, because I can "feel" the road, and the car reacts like it should. Guaranteed to make your gaming experience even better. Best of all you don't have to wait for the official Gran Turismo3 model to be in stock, because this one works just like it, for your Playstation2.
21 good force feedback wheel
i bought this wheel for very cheap ... and this is the best force feedback wheel for its money.......it even came with a free game - Sports car GT.....the buttons and shifters are easy to reach and a comfortable red grip.....it feels like your really racing the fast cars......only small problem is that you need to have the windows cd to complete the installation.....but other than that its a great wheel to buy.....especially if you have any of the NFS games!
22 A very good wheel for only a little money
The Formula Force GP wheel is a very comfortable, responsive USB steering wheel. I've been running it with Windows 2000, and have had not a bit of trouble with it, in fact, it has added a significant amount of fun and realism to my driving games. This, added to the low price (compared to other wheels) I paid ($49, after rebates) has made the wheel one of the best additions I have made to my computer.

Likes: 1. The rubberized red pads and cut-outs make the wheel much, much nicer than the all-plastic wheels out there 2. The wheel mounts easily and positively to your desk, and doesn't take up too much room 3. Force feedback effects are good 4. Wingman configuration program provides good configurability and control of the wheel 5. Great plug and play USB installation

Gripes: 1. The wheel is too small 2. The pedal base is too light, and should be further secured to prevent sliding 3. Odd noises from the wheel in use (when not drowned out by the game audio)

Overall, a great value and a very good wheel. This should tide me over until I can pony up the money for a better, metal wheel and pedal set (if EVER).

23 Wingman Wheel is fun!
The product arrived in 2 days in good order. It is a good quality wheel with a good feel. The pedals are large enough and well spaced. The wheel comes with an installation CD and a bundled game. The biggest problem I had was during installation. At one point it asks for you to insert the Windows '98 CD into the drive. My Dell computer did not include this CD so I was stuck without a necessary driver. After some time searching the internet, I was able to get the driver and complete the installation. Once over this hurdle, everything went well. The wheel is easy to set up and it works with all the games I have tried. The 6 buttons are easy to program for shifting gears, lights, horn or whatever you wish. By the end of the day the whole family was engrossed in Need For Speed - High Stakes. The force feedback experienced with most games is amazing! You will feel bumps and turns and other cars hitting you. One thing to note is that if you have a heavy foot, the pedals may slide away from you, even on carpet. I have not used other force feedback wheels but I could definitely recommend this one an excellent option!
