Just try and hold on to Logitech's WingMan RumblePad gamepad. Featuring nine programmable buttons, the RumblePad offers a sliding throttle for precise speed control, plus two analog sticks to let you quickly rotate a full 360 degrees. Two motors, housed in the RumblePad grips, let you feel every turn, bump, and dip in games and simulations. Since this gamepad draws power from the USB port on your PC, no expensive batteries are required.
Bring all the excitement out of your games with sophisticated dual motor technology for maximum vibration feedback. Plus you get all the control features you need to dominate.Feel what you've been missing! If you're still using a standard gamepad, you're missing out on a whole new dimension in gaming: vibration feedback. The WingMan Rumblepad uses not one but two vibration feedback motors, weighted differently and spinning independently, to let you feel every turn, bump, dip, and crash. And it feels great in your hands with all the controls you need to dominate.
1 Bad quality.
This gamepad, like other Logitech gamepads, have horrible problems. The analog stick is incredibly inaccurate and never calibrates correctly. I'm a game programmer, and I needed some game pads a while back for a game I made. I purchased 5 Logitech pads at one time. Every single one has given me hardware problems, either with the z slider breaking off, the controller losing connection when the wire is held at certain angles, the analog stick plastic piece falling off, the D pad not sending the correct directions, or the analog stick not calibrating correctly.
In short, stay away from Logitech gamepads. They're of horrible quality.
2 calibration problems
As one of the other reviewers mentioned, there seems to be a calibration problem with the left joystick, at least in the batch that Amazon is selling (and Logitech doesn't make this model anymore, so you can't get a fresh one). I've tried two of them and in both cases, the left joystick won't stay centered.
3 Decent, but wouldn't recommend it
My beef with this controller is that the calibration is continuously getting out of whack on the left joystick. The company has no fix for it, and it is not game specific. This can be temporarily fixed by resetting the calibration, but it's still a pain in the rear end.
4 like every other gamepad I had for the pc, a piece of junk
This pad fall in the catagorey of all the games pads for the pc that I have tried. CRAP!!!! It broke after a week of play. The software that came with it was good, but all the software in the world can't make up. I threw it into the street in frustration. Why can't they make a durable game pad for pc's? They have them for console systems.
5 Been usieing this pad for 4 years now
Four years an no problems other than droping it and breaking the thumb controls .....but thats nothing alil super glue couldnt fix....I play MotorCross Madness 2 with this pad EVERYDAY...... Very nice and sesitive...... If i were to buy another controler it would be a wingman rumble pad!
6 Wingman, what a waste of money
I bought this controller thinking it would be top of the line, but after having it for about a week, everything just started to go wrong. The first thing then went bad were the joy sticks, if you goto the game controller properties in the control pannel ou will notice that even though the joy sticks are still, the properties show them moving slightly. I accepted this imperfection but then then one of the buttons just completely died, i called logitech, which by the requires to you to pay long distance charges. I was able to get a replacement for the controller. Also from what i read in logitech press-releases while trying to get my problem fixed it seems like the wingman 2 should be out in the fall, so if you can wait it might be definitly worth your while.
7 awful waste of money
This is a terrible product. It broke the day after its first use, and it makes gameplay more difficult. It is unfortunate that many games require this controller, because it is a difficult to use piece of junk.
8 Decent controler
Has realistic rumble for most games. But it is not durable. Both joysticks broke off.
9 Okay for flying games, stinks for anything else
The layout of the pad is nice...two joysticks, directional pad, and lots of buttons, all within reach. Throw into that the rumblepad and its pretty nice. However, when actually using this pad, I've found it pretty difficult going.
The direction pad is almost impossible to use because the buttons are quite hard to push and hold down, and likewise the buttons are quite difficult to use. Overall, I find the pad to be very uncomfortable. Logitech had a good idea with planning this pad, they just should have tried actually using it too.
10 Solid controller, but...
After two years of use, both the plastic sticks have broken completely off. Now heck, the rest of the controller works great, except for the right trigger becoming unresponsive at times, but those crappy plastic sticks are what's holding back an otherwise quality product. Numerous attempts to contact Logitech failed, and when I finally did get somebody I was informed I couldn't buy replacement sticks, I'd have to buy a new controller.
I'm now buying a Dual Shock 2 and a PSX to USB adapter. Forget this.
11 Enter the Thumb-killer Extreme
This control pad has tiny widdle buttons that are for tiny widdle fingers. If you have large hands, don't buy this junk, go for the cordless version. The buttons wear out fast. My buton 1 is already starting to make snapping sounds. It is for kids, not adults or teens. The unit itself is big, but the buttons are tiny. I now have carpel tunnel of the right thumb(aka stiffness and soreness) because of this stinker. I played Big Mutha Truckers and blew the horn, brakes, and gearshift toggle enough to break the buttons and my thumb. I will probably go for Belkin's controller instead now.(of course six months rest is in order 1st + a Dr. visit.)
12 Piece of junk
Nice when it worked, but it quickly developed a problem where the left stick stops working correctly. Logitec tech support is worthless.
13 DO NOT BUY
This product is useless, as hundreds of people can tell you if you google search for calibration problems. The pad has a hardware problem which causes the left analog stick to break after a few minutes of use. You have to unplug it and plug it back in every few minutes to recalibrate the stick. Logitech refuses to fix it, so DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT
14 Several things wrong
1) Stiff, clicky, small, inset buttons. Nothing like a PS2/PSX pad's nice buttons.
2) Badly placed throttle. The shoulder buttons (which are the clickiest of them all) are big, but if you're like me your pointer fingers tend to travel up while using the shoulder buttons. And that makes for a badly placed throttle above the right shoulder button.
3) Sticks will eventually break off. I got a free replacement LWMRP, but I'm afraid to use it because I know that one will break as well. I suggested to them that they use sturdy metal sticks if they're going to insist on the skinny necks of the sticks, but they haven't modified it yet.
4) Stiff D-Pad/POV pad. And it's hard to navigate with it as well since you can't feel the direction without looking down to see if you're pressing it right.
5) Inset Mode and Rumble buttons hard to press in sometimes.
Two great things? The handles and rumble feature. Very comfortable grips and very solid rumble features.
15 Calibration loss IN-Game!!!
Oh dear, I was so happy to play with the RumblePad, an amazing gamepad. I'm playing Need for Speed Underground on a professional level and the one big issue is, that the left stick gets a Deadzone during the game?!¿ I have contacted the Wingmanteam and they said that there is no fix to download at this time, this would be a DirectX Input bug, but why I don't have any problems with Speedlink Bullfrog or Saitek P2500 Rumble??? Very confused, but the Wingman RumblePad is really a good product with an failed Software construction :(
greetz Gökhan from Germany
16 this thing BLOWSSS
this is the worst POS(peice of sh*t)u can possibly get. it'll last u about 11 hrs of gameplay b4 it starts crapping out. do not buy this. it is teh suck!
17 Good Layout - Shoddy Quality
I got two of these as gift. One controller went bad, and then the other. The problem is that the 6 buttons on the right spring back up after pushing them down partially because they are attached to some medicore plastic chassis inside the controller. Anyone who pushes these buttons repeatedly(I do this for speed bursts and checks in EA NHL games) will ultimately break the button away from the plastic. As a result, the buttons will start to stick. To put it another way, you push down, but the button doesn't come back up. I took one apart and cleaned the buttons out a little, and seems to be functional again, but the responsiveness of the buttons is not what it used to be and it's only a matter of time before the buttons go bad again. And another thing, there's too much space between the buttons and the controller, and it allows grit to get into the controller and affects the buttons, too. I'm probably going to get a gravis next time.
18 terrific potential with a critical flaw
This would be a great controler with all the buttons and two analog sticks. Shortly after I started using it the left analog stick wouldn't register properly when I pushed to the right. I was using it to play Need for Speed Underground. If the stick had worked right this would be a great product.
19 sturdy and works good, but a little small
I have had mine for over a year and it still works(no button failure anyway) but it is too small for my hands. If you have large hands and play Return of the King then you'll be sorry, I promise. I have cramps in my thumb-to-index finger tendons and last night my right arm went numb. Find another controller if using extensively. Works better in flight sims where you don't have to have a click-click dexterity fest to beat your foes.(Hmm Richard Garriot said that!) maybe an automatic rep mode(Like Nintendo did fifteen years ago with thier turbo stick.) My how we have evolved people!(sarcasticlly rolls eyes)
20 Great Pad with a problematic throttle slider
I love these pads. I've been using them for almost two years and have been happy enough with them to not only recommend them to friends, but I give them as gifts to my gaming nephews. The problem is the sliders come off quite easily. While they snap back on just as easy, I have lost at least two while traveling after they came off in my baggage. I wish logitech would offer replacements by the dozen cheapley.
21 Keeps losing its callibration settings
It's a good-sized pad, with good force feedback. Unfortunately, the left analog stick keeps losing its callibration settings every 30 minutes and refused to go right after a while. The only way to re-callibrate it: plug it out of the USB port and re-connect it. Then you have to switch our of the game to the profiler application to tell it to apply your profile setting again. A serious annoyance.
22 Works kind of, for a little while
I usually like Logitech products, which is why I'm amazed they would actually put their name on this garbage. To start with, 2 out of the 7 push buttons have intermittent faults while pressing down continuously. The 8 way directional hat, has a hard time detecting presses to the right. The left Joystick looses it's calibration after about twenty to forty five minutes of game play. After that, it simply will not go to the right. Since it was decided that this stick was above mere calibration, none was included. The only way to resolve the problem is to reboot the computer when this happens. A real mood killer while playing any game. I'm a avid gamer and have other game pads, wheels and sticks, so no it's not the computer or USB port. They all work fine, I just thought this one would be better. Next time I'll think a little harder if it say's Logitech on it.
23 Good pad, Shoddy construction
I'll get the bad stuff out of the way first:
This pad is a very poorly contructed device. Both sticks have come right off several times, the first two buttons have taken to making an annoying clicking sound, and that throttle slider falls off ALL THE TIME. The last time it came off, it was trampled and nearly broken. If it wasn't for Microsoft's idiotic swapping of the left thumbstick and D-pad on the X-Box controller, I'd be using that controller instead (the X-Box controller uses a USB interface).
On the good side, the Wingman Pad is a great staple for the PC gamepad market, setting the standard with its basic features and design. The throttle makes me think Logitech was aiming to compete against joysticks with this pad. It ain't gonna happen. That space isn't large enough for a quality throttle slider, and it poses problems that I've already mentioned. The mode switching is pretty cool (as I use the pad mainly for emulators, I need the D-pad to function as such when playing, say, Super Nintendo, but I use mode switch to use the left stick when playing Nintendo 64).
24 Extremely happy
I was given this gamepad by a friend along with a flight sim called Fly 2K. I found the flight sim amazingly realistic and my othe gamepad didnt stand a chance. Essensially the wingman is just a modified Playstation controller. the differences are the location of the would be R1 and L1 buttons (now next to the analog controlls), two extra buttons where the circle, X, triangle and square are, and the addition of a throttle controll (a little slider above the right, rear button. while these differences may seem small, they (especially the throttle controll) make a big difference in flight sims.
25 good
I use this for BF1942, NFS games. This is a very nice gamepad
26 Best Gaming Device
You will not regret buying this, believe me.
The force feedback is superb and makes the game more alive.
27 This is a PS2 Clone
I've had this pad for 2 years and have to say its my favorite. Other controllers I've used like the Interact Hammerhead and Radioshack analog multipad had really poor pots in thier analog sticks and never held calibration for more than a minute. Im now on my second rumble pad (the force feedback motors and the analog sticks broke off on th old one).
If you were to take this controller and a PS2 controller apart and compare their analog components, you would see that thier identical, which is good because PS2's have the best analog sticks i've used. The major difference between this controller and a PS2 is the throttle slider on the right top corner of the pad, IHMO the space would have been better used to put 2 extra sholder buttons Left and right. I have yet to find any use for the throttle slider, it seems like more of a gimmick than a usable feature.
28 Not So Flying
I believe this is not as good as compared to the Sidewinder that Microsoft makes. It is a very clumsy controller. It may look like a dual shock playstation controller but by no means does it perform up to the standards of the playstation controller. I got it for(X)and I sold it already for (X) . I tried the Sidewinder and thought it was a better controller and as the old saying goes, " You get what you Pay for."
29 No Comparison to MS Sidewinder
After reading the reviews listed here, I decided to go with the Logitech WingMan Rumble Pad over another Microsoft Sidewinder device (my previous Sidewinder Pro broke after a year's not-so frequent use). In comparing the two, I'd have to say that, aestetics aside, the WingMan beats the Sidewinder hands down. The analog sticks are great with games like NHL 2002 - directional movement is excellent with the WingMan, while I had some issues with the angled and often inaccurate direction controls of the Sidewinder. The WingMan is a bit sleaker than the Sidewinder, which is good if you don't have gargantuan hands (my hands would get tired after playing a few games on the Sidewinder, due to its girth).
My only two criticisms of the WingMan are somewhat minor: 1) the six buttons on the right side of the controller don't seem as natural as those on the Sidewinder, but that could be because I've only been using the WingMan for a week and a half now; and 2) when will the rumble aspect of the pad ever be utilized??? Are there any PC games out there with this feature?
Overall, well worth the money.
30 PS2 controller on a computer?
Logitech is well known for its Mice, Keyboards, speakers, and now game controllers. its Wingman series is pretty good with joysticks and gamepads. while you can play FPS with this controller (dual analog, one stick for movement and the other for view), it really isn't recommended. if you play sports games, then a gamepad is really needed, but for most games, just save money and keep that keyboard and mouse.
Egronomics of a gamepad is pretty important, and the Wingman RumblePad is pretty good with this. your middle fingers have a groove that they can rest inside and your index fingers go onto the shoulder buttons (aka triggers). buttons are pretty easy to press, but the analog sticks do not have any rubber grips on them or anything. all there is present is a slight groove. the force feedback feature is pretty accurate. i cannot wait until Halo comes to the computer. then it'll have an authentic "xbox" feeling. (not really cause the analog sticks are positioned like the PS2 controller)
overall, stay with your keyboard and mouse. if you want a gamepad though, this is a pretty good one that you should consider.
31 Wonderful for both Mac and PC
When I bought this controller I was a bit worried, because I was not sure if this would work with my Macintosh, however it worked flawlessly. There is no delay on the actions, it works with all my games and anything else I need it to. The controller buttons can be customized to do what you want them to do. Now, it says it rumbles? I personally have not gotten it to rumble, however I was mostly using it with emulators, which are rough applications and aren't really known for their extra features (no offense if you program emulators). Overall this is a great controller for a very reasonable price, if you play arcade type games or any games, this is definitely for you, no matter if you use a mac or windows.
32 Very unimpressive controller
Overall, I rate the Logitech Wingman Rumble Pad as a very poor controller. My largest complaint is that the buttons are stiff, with very poor feel. Also, the analog joystick doesn't seem to go naturally in the direction you are attempting to go, which is very aggravating. The controller has a nice, solid feel to it, but overall it is very disappointing to use.
33 Great Pad
Before buying this pad, I looked at every other single one that was being sold on amazon first. There were others that looked better but I didnt want to spend 40 bucks on just a pad. This one looked good, only 27 bucks. I was expecting it to be a fairly good one, because the price was lower than others like it, but I was amazed! The pad is great, it has 2 analog sticks, a regular directional pad and 9 buttons and a slider.
The gamepad works great with EA games, try getting NHL 2001 to go along with it. I even got two pads so I could play with my friends. It also has two modes, you can switch it so that the analog sticks work as a directional pad, helpful for games like Frogger where you only need to go in 4 directions. The controller also works well with Playstation games released on the computer, for example Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2.
(I am running a Dell 1.8 ghz computer with Windows ME and I havn't encountered any problems. It comes with its own calibration software.)
34 this used to be good
this thing used to be good..... but then i played tony hawk pro skater 2 and one of the buttons broke, now its no fun to play with it cause every time i jump in the game the stupid button makes a terrible sound. I SUGGEST U BUY THIIS,,, BUT BE SENSITIVE!!
35 TOTALLY WORTH THE MONEY
You get highend features for very little money. The gamepad comes with software and is progamable for just about all software titles on the market. Manufacture has download site to keep your device updated with the latest software title. I probable will never own a joy stick again.
36 A fantastic gamepad with lots of features and a low pricetag
The Rumblepad really brought out the fun in my driving & sports games. Need for Speed - Porsche Unleashed got even better with it. It's got a built-in finger throttle that makes controlling your speed easy, and the added sensation of feeling the road and the car's acceleration in my hands made it more exciting. The force feedback is remarkably strong for a gamepad, stronger than most, and can really surprise you at times. It really shines in Star Wars Pod Racer, where the rumble of the rockets and your scrapes along the ground are translated into different sensations.
Mostly a gamepad sees use in sports games, and in FIFA Soccer 2001 I had no trouble moving the ball around & scoring. If you've played games on a Sony Playstation or are giving it to someone who has, the many buttons and controls are completely familiar (with the possible exception of the throttle). Unlike some here, I've had no problems at all installing the drivers & hardware on computers using either Win98, Me, or XP Pro.
37 Very easy to use
Great gamepad. I needed something with USB for my laptop, and this one is great. Installed on WinXP with no problesm. Has perfect control. Works very well with NFSPU. I also like the size. It isn't as bulky as some of the Game Pads I've used. The throttle control can be a reach for some people, I would like to see it corner mounted, but it doesn't seem to pose a big problem. Well, worth the money.
38 Works Well
Just thought I'd point out that even though the software isn't for the Mac, it can still be used for it, I use it mostly to play tony hawk 2 and it works really well, the directional pad can be a pain sometimes, but other than that it is fine
39 This is a great pad!
I've tried a lot of gamepads and this one is the best. The analog sticks are really nice and responsive, the best I've seen. Better than any other PC game pad I've tried and better than the PSX controller. The rumble is really cool, too. It has many different types of force feedback, and it can get really strong. It also has a throttle thingy, which I broke when I stepped on it. Oh well, it was completely my fault. I like the buttons and shape, but they were a bit weird at first. As soon as I'm done writing this review, I'm going to buy another one. A great controller. I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a quality USB force feedback controller. Attractive price, too. Bravo, Logitech.
P.S. I currently use the pad with High Heat Baseball 2002, NHL 2001, Madden 2001, NBA Live 2001, NBA Live 2000, Descent 3 (once, not a very good game), and any other games where I can use a game controller.
40 Really a great gamepad
Despite the few bad reviews this gamepad got, it's still a REALLY great gamepad.
The unpesponsiveness experienced by that other guy was also experienced by me, but I realised it was becasue of my USB modem, since all USB devices share the limited bandwidth of the USB line. But when I'm not on the net it responds immediatelly.
The Rumble feature really adds a whole new dimension to a game, Need for Speed will never be the same for me.
If you're looking for a great gamepad, get this one. It's comfortable, response and it rumbles!!! (yay!)
41 The greatest Game pad ever!
This is an amazing Gamepad, The wingman features vibration feedback, a throttle, 2 analog sticks, and anything, no everything else. I have had absolutly no problems with this Gamepad. Go out and get one now!!
42 A terrific controller for typical computer gamers.
I bought this controller because I recieved a pack of sports games for my PC as a gift. I found them difficult using only the buttons on the keyboard. When I tried this controller, I was amazed. I then looked up this product right here on Amazon, and found a few reviews from dissapointed customers. They said all the problems they had with it. Well, I believe those problems are from the computer itself, and not this particular controller. I have had nothing but good luck and hours of enjoyable game play with it. Sure, you can go out and buy the most expensive items with the most features, if you want. But, If you are looking for a controller that will fit your needs for all of your computer games, I highly recommend this product. Well done, Logitech.
43 A good choice!
I am using this gamepad with windows 2000 and FIFA 2001 and I did not noticed the problem that the other guy had with this gamepad. So, I think it is a problem with his Win2000.
44 Had two RumblePads, neither of them worked.
This is a problem with Logitech controllers that I've seen posted on other web sites. I'm running Windows 2000. My trouble was the same on both of the RumblePad controllers that I owned (I exchanged the first one for another one): the analog controls (dual sticks and throttle) worked fine, while the digital controls (directional pad and buttons) all registered only after being depressed for about half a second. Obviously, this is entirely unacceptable, and although I quite like my Logitech cordless mouse, I won't be buying any more of their game controllers.
I'll stick with my Gravis Pad. It works.
45 Overall great gamepad
I've always had good luck with Logitech gamepads. Having used the excellent wingman extreme for awhile, I wanted a controler with analog controls. The wingman rumble pad had what I was looking for, along with an excellent rumble feature. Used over a variety of games from flight sims, racers, and first person shooters I can say this gamepad will send my previous favorite wingman extreme to the closet.
I have large hands, and the controller fits perfectly. I had no trouble getting used to the control layout, the joysticks are well placed and are easy to use for long periods. The analog sticks have a diffrent feel from the ps dualshock controlers, but it didn't take long for me to adjust. The digital joypad is easy to use as well, and in some games where you can swich between the two either feels equally comfortable.
The one problem I had was the feel of the buttons. Compared to the Wingman extreme, the trigger buttons feel stiff (almost like mouse buttons). The buttons on the front of the controler have very little tactile feedback. When you press them you know you pressed them, but if they were raised a little higher maybe they would "feel" better. The throttle slide control is a great feature for flight sims, but it slides so easy you need to pay attention to how far you move it. Not distracting, but this keeps the gamepad from being perfect.
Compared to console game controllers this gamepad pales to the N64 layout, and tries hard to mimic the playstation.
46 Good, but Not Great
Go to an electronics store and feel this in your hands - it's the best review you could ask for. Unfortunately, as much as I wanted to like this controller, there is a negative for every positive. I mean that quite literally - for every good feature, that feature also has something wrong with it. I noticed all this after only 1 day with it:
Layout - the positive is that the Rumblepad is nearly identical to the Playstation's Dualshock controller. There are 7 buttons, 2 triggers, 2 analog sticks, a d-pad, a shift button, and even a throttle slide! For many games, you will not need to use the keyboard when you've got this gamepad. However, the Rumblepad is different enough from the Dualshock that if you are trying to play Playstation games on your PC (Final Fantasy, Metal Gear, bleem!, etc) you will have some relearning to do. You might want to wait until Sony starts making USB Dualshock controllers. (which should be in 6 months)
Feel - this gamepad is nice and big, and doesn't cramp my large (adult male) hands at all. However, the buttons are terrible! They are tiny, hard to press, harder to reach, and even harder to figure out which one you want without looking at the pad. I can't simply rest my thumb naturally on the buttons, but have to bend it akwardly and press the buttons with the very tip of my thumb. This is a design flaw of the pad, not because of my particular build, which is quite average.
Analog Sticks - these are both very responsive, and perfectly positioned. The negative is that they don't have a good gripping surface or shape, so your thumbs don't stay centered on them. Because the sticks are curved inwards, (console sticks on all major systems are curved outwards) I often find I am controlling the stick by its very edge, which is uncomfortable and very inaccurate. As if by the Hand of God, you usually won't need to repositon your thumb until you reach a particular important part of your game!
USB - this speaks for itself. USB is great, if you don't know yet. You can unplug the pad and move it off your desk easily. However, this gamepad requires a -powered- USB hub. You can't plug this into your keyboard USB ports. Great if you already own a powered hub, but if you don't that means you either spend another $ on one, or you plug it into the back of your computer case (thus defeating the ease of USB)
(as of Oct 2000, the Rumblepad doesn't work well with Windows ME. I downloaded the latest update from Logitech, but my computer locks up whenever I plug the gamepad in. I have to have my computer off to plug it in. However, this might be caused by the power requirements of the Rumblepad, not the software.)
47 A great analog gamepad
I was looking for an analog gamepad with two analog sticks. This fits the bill perfectly. The included 'rumble' feature just adds icing to the cake. It is like limited force feedback. It fits my hands (somewhat large) quite well and the response in games is good.
