Crank up the audio on your PC with this 2.1 speaker system and enjoy clean, crisp, consistent sound from your games, music, and more. The Logitech X-230's high-tech subwoofer adjusts itself dynamically to deliver distortion-free bass.
And the two wall-mountable satellite speakers use Logitechs patented FDD2 technology to eliminate the uneven sound response created by conventional dual-driver designs. The result: a clear, uniform sound field without the "hot spots" and inconsistency of other dual-driver satellites.
- Frequency Directed Dual Driver (FDD2) satellite technology produces a uniform sound field for full, rich sound
- Dynamic, real-time bass equalization maximizes bass response while minimizing distortion
- Ported subwoofer design displaces more air for deeper bass
- Headphone jack enables private listening
- Master volume and subwoofer level controls placed for quick, convenient access
- Satellite speaker stands rotate for easy wall-mounting
1 One of the best speakers in its class
PROS: Strong bass, looks modern, overall good sound, volume relatively loud, cheap
CONS: Bass might be too 'boomy' for me, mid-range a bit weaker
Logitech X-230 is a great buy for people looking for 2-piece speakers with subwoofer. I didn't have great expectations for it but was genuine quite surprised with the sound quality, especially with the price that it was going for. This pair of speakers is pretty versatile - I've used for music, movies and games. Previously I've used Altec Lansing's ACS 45.1 and this Logitech does a pretty good job matching Altec Lansing.
Closer listening would reveal that the mid-range for this speakers is a little weaker than I would have wished. If it were stronger, I would have no hesitation giving this pair of speakers full marks. Still, it's hardly noticeable especially playing loud music and pop. Bass on the other hand could really get out of hand especially when you're sitting right in front of the speakers - good for people who likes heavy bass - but for me, it's too much - I've turned down the bass volume all the way down and it's perfect! There's sound distortion when I switch on software equaliser (found on Windows Media Player for example) - I suspect it's more of my computer's soundcard (it's an old one). So it's hard for me to compensate for midrange, though some higher bitrate MP3s did not have the distortion problem when equaliser was tweaked.
Volume control, power button and headphone jack is conveniently placed on the front panel of the right speaker. The cloth mesh which covers the two drivers on each speakers is a little flimsy, and seems to trap dust a little too easily. Speaker stand is versatile - either stand on the table or wall mountable.
In conclusion, this pair of speakers is highly recommended for people looking for budget speakers but with good sound. It may even match some of the more expensive speakers by Altec Lansing and Creative.
2 Oh Yeah !
I just picked up these babies the other day,and I have to say I love em!My previous Altec Lansing 2.1/Sub system decided to start popping and shorting out, after having it for less than 6mths so I was forced to buy new speakers.I shopped around a little bit, exploring my options and not wanting to go over $100.Logitech sound better than others in its price range. With the Logitechs you get the best sound for your money, and at $50 you simply cant beat this system. The dual drivers are awesome, and produce rich, crisp highs while the subwoofer pounds out extreme bass that you can feel all over the house.I thought the Altec's sounded good till I heard these....much clearer, and no distortion in the sub when you crank it up.I listen to all kinds of music(mostly dance)Let me tell you this system can handle anything.I keep the volume on both the woofers and the sub turned way down, because with well crafted speakers like these you dont need to turn it up all the way to get the best sound. To sum it all up,if ya want that "extra"kick to add to your computer or gaming system go out and buy these!!!
3 Good For The Money
I bought these speakers to use with my TV and XBOX. The speakers and bass have great sound but the only problem is that too much regular audio comes out of the sub woofer. Like if the man on the TV has a deep voice, a lot of bass will come out. I was able to solve this by turning the bass knob on the back of the sub ALL the way up, but going on my TV and turning the bass setting to 20% - 30%. This way, the TV sends out less bass, but since the knob on the back of the sub is up, the small signal of the important bass shows up loud. If you think abo0ut it, and try it, it will make sense. These speakers arent perfect, but certainly deliver for $35, i only bought these until the end of the summer so i can buy the more expensive Logitech Z-2300s for $150. But even though there are some control issues, these speakers DEFINEITLY deliver for $35 and will show you a new world of sound if you are new to all this.
4 exactly what i was looking for
I wanted a little extra bass for the songs I had stored on my computer and it exceeded my expectations! They look great and they sound even better. The subwoofer has a bass adjuster (mine does---some people just may not know where it is, i had to show a friend where hers was the other day) and you can turn it down to no bass or turn it all the way up. I was so excited the first time I listened to it. So if you want to give a boost to your computer's sound system (or a cd player's) then these are good bet.
5 Just an average product.
My biggest problem with the Logitech x-230: You can't totally turn off the subwoofer. At the subwoofer's lowest level, you get WAY too much bass. For any normal adult (say, thirty years or older) THAT is a reason to DISLIKE these speakers. Since I'm over thirty years old, I DISLIKED these speakers: However I gave them to my teenage son, and he seems to like them: See what I mean?
6 good sound for good price
i wanted to get better sound from my pc . this filled the bill .much better quality than i expected for the money.
7 No midrange... all bass
I bought these because the price was great but I was disappointed. There is definitely too much bass and not much else. The sound is all highs and lows. Adjusting the graphic equalizer on the player(software) can't completely fix it. I bought the Creative T3000s to compare and they are noticeably better. I returned the Logitechs.
8 Too good for my PC!
These little speakers are amazing, especially for the small price...I hooked them up to my pc and played a CD; result: Amazing--precise and really beefy sound. I actually spent some time listening to radio stations on my Dell (which, I never do). Great! Then...since I have my pc in the same room where I have a top-of-the-line A/V system...I moved this little gadget to my bedroom TV w/DVD player--this is where it will stay!!! I was going to buy an inexpensive A/V 5.1 package for my bedroom; not anymore! This Logitech system kicks butt! Voices are clear and distinct, special effects (Terminator III/ The Day After Tomorrow, etc.) sounds are big and lifelike! I know, I'm missing out on surround...but I don't have much room and didn't like the idea of running wires all over the place. No, the Logitech x-230 works and works well for me! And just think, this isn't even one of its' recommended uses...I also use it with a small and very cheap portable FM player (paid 4 bucks)....when I want to listen to the radio (loud!) this is the way to go--just plug this little sucker into the headphone jack and be prepared to be amazed!!!
9 Awesome speakers
These little speakers are great..The sound is spectacular for such a small driver...
10 Best speakers for under $70
It's still early in January 2005 and it's the right time for manufacturers to introduce their new line of inexpensive 2.1 speakers. Presently, for less than $70 and without any new models from competitors, the Logitech X-230 speakers are my choice.
With the subwoofer's rear knob turned to the maximum, distortion from the subwoofer is not noticeable. I've set the knob between 3 and 4 out of 10 to get the amount of bass which nearly suits my taste in bass. In comparison, my taste in bass is being able to hear a thumpy to boomy bass drum attack on Buddy Rich's Time Being 5 minute drum solo.
Depending on the type of audio played, when the volume is cranked higher than "normal" listening levels, the satelites will distort. The speaker's midrange can be improved with your computer's graphic equalizer.
The gaming control device, which was included with the Logitech X-220's, is not included with the X-230's.
These speaker's warranted a 5 star rating because of it's quality sound for the price. Set at comfortable levels on the speakers and your computer, the X-230's will easily fill a 200 square foot room with clean and distortion free sound.
11 Keepers
I tried several sets trying to find a set that did not have the "tinny" high frequency sound heard with most low cost speakers. The Logitech Z-3 set was unsatisfactory in this area though they had more bass and power (and looks). I'll keep the
X-230 set.
12 Waaay too bassy
I decided it was time to upgrade my generic no-name "Hi-Fi Stereo Multimedia Series" speakers with something just a little louder. I mostly just play some music on my computer while I work, but wanted a little more oomph. These speakers got good reviews (...)so I took the plunge.
My observations:
- The cord between the left and right speakers is too short for my desk. I have a large corner desk and my old speakers had no problem sitting at either end, but these Logitechs can only be put about 4 or 5 feet apart, not the 7 or 8 that I needed. So I had to move them to a lower shelf, closer to the monitor.
- These things are waaaay too bassy for my liking. The subwoofer has a knob on it and I have it turned the whole way down but I *still* have to use WinAmp's graphic equalizer to trim it further. High end is fine, middle range is largely absent, and bass is way too thumpy. Not the profile I was looking for to listen to while working on my computer. Maybe there is a "break-in" period that will change this character, but I'm skeptical.
Featurewise they are very nice with handy volume knob and headphone jack in the right speaker.
I'm half tempted to send them back, but I think I'll donate them to my wife's computer and keep searching. If you have a smaller desk and like thumpy bass, these are perhaps ideal speakers for you and you can count my vote as 5 stars in your case. But while I'm no audiophile by any stretch, these speakers just don't have the flat response I would have preferred.
13 Buy these speakers!
These little speakers rock! The sound is very clean and full, with a signal to noise ration >96dB.
The bass is very solid and deep for such a small driver, with a slightly noticeable peak in frequency response around 80Hz or so, depending on what you are listening to. I personally have to turn the volume of the sub to it's lowest level, or the bass overwhelms everything else. I think the greatest thing about these speakers is that even at a low overall volume level the sound is very full with plenty of deep bass (very similar to sound you get from a pair of large element headphones). A lot of speakers sound very thin at low volume levels as the bass rolls off, but not these, the little sub box just keeps thumping. One word of warning: The sub unit is NOT video shielded! Do not place it anywhere near your monitor, or you will ruin it, place it in the floor under your desk as recomended.
These speakers will bring the life back to your MP3 collection, and I won't even mention video games. Buy and enjoy!
14 No reason to pass up such a deal!
I received the x-230 set yesterday and quickly made the connections to my lap top, and within minutes I had great sound. The sound is just a great wholsome sound there is no echo or tinny sound emmitted from the speakers. The subwoofer also gives off great bass. The set is unbeatable! My friend recently bought the Creative 3500 set and it doesn't have the same quality as the x-230's do. The x-230's are amazing and a must for someone with laptop.
15 Great deal, good sound.
These speakers sound great, no matter what volume you have them at. I normally have them at about 3-4/10ths the maximum volume (adjusting volume with whatever software I'm using at the time) and they sound perfect. The bass bumps, too and its adjustable, though the dial is on the back of the box.
I haven't tried out the headphones jack, but I love the convenient placement on the front of the right speaker.
I definitely recommend these.
16 its great !
i bought them from here ( amazon.com ) this item was qualified for free shipping ...it took about 3-5 days .i plug in everything and it sounds great .. its actually cheap too :D
17 Logitech X-230 2.1
I must say, I am a devout logitech customer, and after searching around Amazon for a good speaker replacement, I decided on these because of their power, price, and looks. I was instantaniously impressed with how amazing these sound. Logitech does it again. Amazing low end (no distortion), great sattalites with great power, and smooth looks. The base of these can also be twisted to mount on a wall! These are perfect for music, games, and just about anything you can think of. I for sure recommend these to everyone.
18 The best Stereo Desktop Speakers I've seen.
I've had a lot of different desktop speakers at work and home, and these beat them all. The sound is crystal clear, and you can absolutely tell the difference between mp3's coded at different rates on these. The sound is beautiful, even with the onboard sound I have here in the office. My previous speakers were Harmon Kardon desktop speakers, and they just don't come close. These aren't surround sound, but for the price and functionality they just can't be beat.
19 At least they're cheap.
I just bought these as an extra pair of small cheap gaming speakers for my xbox to take to LAN parties. They arn't as clear as I hoped and they seem to get distorted easily at louder levels. It's hard to beat the price. On the box it says you can buy the console adapter from logitech.com. At the time I wrote this, the website has no such thing. I just used the adapter that comes with the z-640s. If you don't own any other speakers, I recommend the z-680s.
