Mac OS X Panther Pocket Guide, 3rd Edition

1 Not too helpful for Windows users
I bought this book on the recommendation of a Mac guru to help with learning to use a recently purchased iBook. I am a longtime and skilled PC user.

I can see where this book would be helpful to someone who was familiar with previous Mac OSes, but it did not spell things clearly enough for this poor Windows user. The book even recommends buying "Switching to the Mac: The Missing Manual" instead of this book for Windows users.

The portions of the book that I have managed to wade through have been somewhat confusing due to typos, unclear labeling, and mislabeling, i.e. referring to a $ as a pound sign.

I generally consider O'Reilly books an excellent source to learn from, but this book was a disappointment.

Quote of the Day:

"I went to the museum where they had all the heads and arms from the

statues that are in all the other museums."
-- Steven Wright

I cannot overemphasize the importance of good grammar.

What a crock. I could easily overemphasize the importance of good
grammar. For example, I could say: "Bad grammar is the leading cause
of slow, painful death in North America," or "Without good grammar, the
United States would have lost World War II."
