Greenwich Village newlyweds Jamie and Paul Buchman (Academy Award winner Helen Hunt [Best Actress, As Good As It Gets, 1998] and Paul Reiser) reach new heights of hilarity and neurosis in the second season of this Emmy Award-winning comedy series. With lovable characters in both achingly real and hilariously unreal situations, this smartly written sitcom showcases a Manhattan couple trying their hardest to keep love alive in the midst of all the mad, mad, mad, mad, madness that modern marriage can bring!
1 One hilarious TV show...
Nominated for 45 Emmys, and winner of 16 during its eight-year run on NBC, Mad About You became an instant smash hit among TV viewers, in large part due to its Seinfeldian portrayals of married life in the big city. Sporting a catchy piano-laden theme song, the series showcased the unique comic talents of co-creator and co-star Paul Reiser, who sought to produce a show telling the true story of married life (he would later publish the bestselling book Couplehood, a compilation of various anecdotes on relationships)...
Mad About You follows the lives of newlywed couple Paul (Paul Reiser) and Jamie Buchman (Helen Hunt), two urban professionals sharing an apartment in New York City. Although they are head-over-heals in love, the two appear to be near total opposites. Paul, a documentary filmmaker, is extremely meticulous, cautious, and careful. Jamie, on the other hand, is a public relations expert with more of a free-spirit outlook on life. With a number of friends and family always in the picture - Jamie's sister Lisa (Anne Ramsay), Paul's cousin Ira (John Pankow), and friends Mark (Richard Kind) and Fran (Leila Kenzle) - Paul and Jamie are constantly bombarded with job-related stress, the strange antics of their friends, and the discovery each others' individual quirks and habits. And it's a recipe that translates into great sitcom entertainment...
The Mad About You (Season 2) DVD features a number of hilarious episodes including the season premiere "Murray's Tale" in which Lisa takes the Buchman dog Murray for a walk only to return with the wrong dog. When Paul and Jamie organize a massive search, they eventually uncover the true whereabouts of Murray, along with the couple whose dog Lisa walked off with... Other notable episodes from Season 2 include "Married to the Job" in which Paul and Jamie vent about their jobs only to discover that Jamie's boss is sitting right behind them, and "Paul is Dead" in which a man by the same name as Paul passes away, creating a bundle of problems for Paul and Jamie...

The DVD Report
2 Mad about this series
I think I was deceived when I start collecting this series. I didn't imagine that Sony people don't RESPECT their customers. I want this series released until the final episode! They should release a set with all remaining episodes what is not a big work to be done considering the two initial box sets( cheap packaging, no extras, fair image quality... ).
Sony MUST respect US, they MUST release remaining episodes!!!
3 just WOW
Amazing!!! I recieved the DVDs only a few days ago and I am almost done, this serial is like pop corn, once you started you cant stop it!!! Watching MAY helps me forget everything and just feel good. Too bad other seasons are not planned on DVD. Since I am in Spain and MAY is not aired here, I will probably never have the possibility to watch more of the show if it does not come out. The only thought depresses me.
Just buy this show... You will not regret it.

5 Waiting for 3rd and 4th season
...Columbia & Sony people; we are waiting for the next seasons.
6 Loved 1 & 2, now waiting for 3...
Season Three?
Please, take my money!
7 Fool me once, shame on you...
Thanks to "Mad About You" and "The Mary Tyler Moore Show", I now ignore television series on DVD until the whole set is out. Turns out I save a lot of money that way, too. There's no hurry, after all. If we all started doing this, then "test ballooning" the first season of a series would not work, and they'd stop.
8 What about Pedro??
It has been over a year since the release of the second season. Please say it ain't so. Television shows should only be released on Dvd if there is some sort of committment from the vendor to release all seasons. I fear this may have become a trend to release the first season then leave us dangling. I would like as many others to collect the entire group of seasons without becoming part of a "test group"
9 Mad About You
I :Love this show, Helen Hunt and Paul Reiser have great chemistry. I own both the first and second season on dvd, and I have been anxiously waiting for over a year for the third season to come out on dvd, when will the studio set a release date. Helen Hunt is my all time favorite actress, this show delivers non stop laughs no matter how many times I watch it. I really hope that the third season will come out shortly. I reccomend the first and second season to any fan of the show that doesn't already own them.
10 Where's the 3rd season?!?!?!
RELEASE THE 3RD SEASON!!I LOVE THIS SHOW!! IF IT'S BECAUSE OF LOW SALES THEN I'LL BUY LIKE 50,000 COPIES OF IT!! I JUST WANT THE 3RD SEASON!!...and maybe the 4th and 5th and so on 'til the series finale.
11 Great Chemistry
I was slow in viewing this program at it's beginning until I began to realize that this show had excellect charactors and story lines that have since become one of my favorites in the world of TV series. The Actors [Helen Hunt & Paul Reiser] & Writers were great and I have enjoyed the DVD releases of Seasons 1 & 2. I look forward to the next release of Season 3.
12 Where is season 3?????
I love this show and am anxiously waiting for season 3!! Please release it!!!!!
13 When is 3rd season coming out?
My wife and I love these series. WE bought the 2 seasons in hopes of owning the whole show one day. It has been quite a while now and no nes about the third season. What is going on? Please don't do this to us. MAd About You is one of the best series ever (THat is why Paul Reises was getting paid what he was back then). Please release all the seasons.
14 Where is the rest?
I am hoping Sony continues to produce these dvd collections. My wife and I really enjoy and identify with Paul and Jamie. We got together after the show had ended so it's like watching them for the first time. Dont quit till all seasons are out!
15 Love This Show--More, Please!
We have both Season 1 and Season 2 DVD sets. We loved the show when it was on the air and love having the opportunity to see the shows, again. We are looking forward to future seasons being released onto DVD sets. We can't wait.
16 The Greatest Show On Couplehood... Where's the 3rd Season!?
These first two seasons are Classic...I admit that they're re-watchable time and again, but come on...where is the complete Third Season and beyond?!?! Paul Reiser is a comedic genious when it comes to couples and families, what a guy. Helen Hunt is my future wife. She's the most gorgeous actress I've ever seen. What a show, too bad its over.
17 One of the Greatest
Mad About You is one of the most warm, wonderful, brilliantly acted, and magically hilarious shows ever created. Right from the pilot episode it was phenomenal, and the second season is as much a treasure as the first. I couldn't recommend this show more highly.
As for the quality of the DVD, it is better than the first season's release but naturally, since it's a Sony aka Columbia-Tristar release, not up to the quality of any other studio's DVD releases.
Sony possesses the most notoriously incompetent DVD department of any major studio, releasing half-baked efforts and then refusing to make tons of money (brilliant strategy, guys) by sitting on such legendary shows as All In The Family and Mad About You while other studios release every TV show ever made, regardless of quality.
One can only hope that some day the DVD department at Sony will be overhauled and someone able to do their job properly brought in. They currently, tragicaly, have no plans to release any more seasons of Mad About You. I suppose that since they've announced that they're finally going to be releasing the third season of All In The Family, there is some slight hope that we may one day be able to enjoy all of Mad About You once more. In the mean-time, buy the first two seasons on DVD and enjoy!
18 I want Season 3, too
I hope it's in production -- though I loved much of the series, all my favorite episodes are from that season, notably "Our Fifteen Minutes."
19 when will i be able to buy season number five?
I already have seasons one and two and i think they are great.
I can't wait until you realese seasons number three and four.
20 Mad About You Season Three
I agree that there should be behind the scenes stuff but when the show was still is production I taped all but about two episodes in the entire series so I'm just pumped they are available on DVD. It's possible that Season Three hasn't been released because of low sales $ but if all the fans let Sony know we want more, it could happen! I have found a website that helps the process. www.tvshowsondvd.com
go there and search mad about you and you should find a place to vote for seasons three and beyond, also you can vote on other shows you want to see on dvd. Tell your friends so we can get more Mad About You!!!!
21 Looking forward to series 3
Along with the tv show friends, I have never seen mad about you on tv until
they put these on dvd. This is a good show and it is great to be spared of commercials. I love murray the dog he is my favorite character and how can you not like paul reiser and helen hunt. It is great to see lisa kudrow doing her ursula character and then taking it to friends. on the critism though, please give us a better menu selection!!!! the menu is lousy. It is a bit frustrating not to have subtitiles and not available in other languages. while it is good to have a choice to choose the selections of episodes you want to see there should be a choice to let the dvd run all the way thru as well.
I am mad about getting more of these dvds on series 3 and up!!!!
22 Good show......No Frills DVD's
Are they not going to release seasons 3 and beyond? It's been 9 months or so since season 2 was released. There's no pre-order for season 3. Makes me wonder if they stopped producing them b/c of low sales $. I hope they keep coming. Seasons 2-4 are best.
23 WOW!! Expecting the 3rd!!!
1. If you are a fan and bought the 1st season, you will see this is a little better because is a 3 DVD set with a better quality.
2. You are not receiving more, once again, of what you can expect: the aprox. 25 episodes and nothing more than 2 commercials: the trailer of Maid in Manhattan (that bad movie with J.Lo.) and the promotion of other commedies avaliable in DVD. Still NO information, or interviwes or behind the scenes, or a docummentary about the series!
3. They did not add the Spanish subtitles, so -if you don't want to lose anything of the original fun- watch it in English.. in Spanish you miss a lot!!!
4. I think this season was better than the first one!!
5. Third season is something I will buy and recommend for sure! But I HOPE they will give us information and subtitles in other languages!!

25 Would like to see the footage removed for syndication
Unlike many of the other DVD series that show TV shows, this release does not show the uncut version of the original. Tell me if I am missing somehting.
26 One of the best tv shows of all time
I would have to say that this is one of the best tv shows. the comedy, emotion and the great cast and cameo apperances is what made this show absoultly fantastic. I just cant wait to build my dvd collection of all the seasons!!!...
27 The Best
This was the BEST TV show in the early 90's. My husband and I were just married when this show began and we could relate to Jamie and Paul. Unfortunately once the baby arrived, the show lost that special touch. But I still watch the early episodes over and over - one of my favorite - Jamie and Paul cooking their first Thanksgiving dinner.
28 Mad About You-The Complete Second Season
If you liked Mad About You the first time around, you will love watching them again and again.
29 I'm mad about MAD ABOUT YOU
ITS GREAT the reason it costs more $ is because there are 3 more episodes.
30 good and bad
This is a great season of a great show, many funny episodes.
Pros
Some of the best eps ever
good quality
cons
no extras
a little more costly than season 1
One oddity I noticed, the last ep on disc 2(Cold Feet), starts with the normal theme song, and all that, the WTC is edited out of the opening as it is in all the episodes, but after the opening the actual episode begins. There's a night time skyline shot and the WTC is there. not a big deal, just something I saw.
31 Not bad, but not perfect either
The Mad About You: Season Two disc is out and while they have made some improvements over the first season, there are still some problems.
The Season Two set comes on three discs with 8 or so episodes per disc. Some claim that this results in improved picture quality, but I can't claim to notice this for myself.
Of the two sets that have been released, this is my favorite by far. Some of the series classic episodes are in this set, like the episode where Jamie's sister loses Murray in the park and comes back with a dog that look like him.
The discs still don't have chapter stops in the individual episodes like other televsion series that have been released on DVD. This is an annoying oversight that makes watching the series more frustrating. The audio quality is good, but this set will not stress out your sound system by any means.
In closing, if you are fan of Mad About You then you should pick this set up. There are some major flaws, but otherwise it is a good buy.
Pro's:
The release of this series on DVD
Classic episodes, like "Paul is Dead" and "The Last Scampi"
Split up on three discs
Improved picture quality, maybe...
Con's:
Still no chapter stops
Still no useful or interesting extras
Equipment Used:
Sony Playstation 2
Phillips 21" television
32 A Much Better Season, A Slightly Better DVD Release...
The second season of "Mad About You" is a surprisingly big improvement on the first. While the first season showed glimpses of greatness in the interactions between Paul and Jamie, the second season saw them at ninety percent of their comedic ability. There is still the occasional misfire or joke taken past the point of humor, but the majority of the seasons episodes work really, really well.
With the second season, the casting settles down and the actors really find their rhythms with each other. Lisa Kudrow's Urusula, the waitress at the local bar and grill Riff's, is an especially welcome addition as a recurring cast member. Leila Kenzle's Fran gets much more depth as the separated and eventually-divorced best friend of Jamie and Anne Ramsay's Lisa (Jamie's sister) settles down nicely into a neurotic mess.
There are some really memorable episodes from the season, especially "Disorientation", featuring Jamie's first day in grad school, and "Cold Feet", the Valentine's Day episode detailing how Paul proposed to Jamie. Equally memorable (for opposite reasons) is "Up All Night" featuring a very unfortunate cameo by John Astin (the original Gomez Addams) as himself, showing that every so often the writers could still loose the line between great reuse of a joke and flogging a dead horse. While much better than Season 1's truly unfortunate use of Jerry Lewis, "Up All Night" served as a reminder that the show was almost - but not quite - to the levels of excellence it would achieve in its middle years.
Technically, the release is less of a disappointment that Season 1. The spreading-out the the episodes onto three discs rather than two means that the episodes look decent on a laptop or HDTV system, but there are still no extras to speak of - not even chapter stops. I'm happy to shell out the extra money for extra video quality, but it would be nice to have episode promos or commentaries or something. As it is, though, it's nice to see them actively working at keeping the price of a full-season release of a TV show down.
All in all, I do recommend this boxed set, although I think Columbia-Tristar could still put some more effort into the releases of future seasons. As for the show itself, this is the season where the show really begins to find itself. If you liked "Mad About You", but skipped the first season due to the quality of the show or the quality of the release, start here.
33 Love it, love it, love it
This is the box set I have been waiting for. Fianlly, the characters start to gel together a bit better and the writing becomes that much sharper. Among the best episodes, we have the last scampi, cold feet, and same time next week. What I really love is that this is the season where Murray starts chasing the invisible mouse and has the mom problems as well.
My only complaint? The increase in price without the addition of any extras. Other than that, buy this and enjoy...
Can't wait for season three...
34 Better picture quality on second season discs
In the first season dvd package Sony sacrificed picture quality in order to cram all 22 episodes on 2 discs. Happily, the 25 episodes which comprise season two are contained on 3 discs and the picture is much sharper as a result.
This isn't the only thing that I like better about this set of discs. For one, the writing got much better in the second season. The jokes were funnier, the characters were more solid and for some reason, Helen Hunt is cuter.
Again, there are no "extras" in these discs. No commentary, specials, cut scenes... nothing. But when you consider the low price it's being offered at, it's a great deal regardless. I only hope that the consumer response is strong enough to warrant issuing the remaining seasons.
35 Small-Screen chemistry at its best.
Ever since this series began, love on TV will never, ever be the same again.
I am sooo glad to see the second season coming out on DVD. The first season (which I already own) was the beginning of a TV classic, and for my money there is no better TV couple. Helen Hunt and Paul Reiser, so relaxed and natural in their roles, make Paul and Jamie an impeccable team even through all their ups and downs. One of the best parts about the show, aside from the great acting, is the terrific writing - they knew just how to combine elements of the comic and dramatic, how to make you laugh and how to make you root for the people you were watching at the same time.
A great show, a great DVD. Can't wait for season 2 to arrive in my mailbox.
36 Mad About First Three Seasons Only!
In the second season the show finally finds its true audience. My personal favorite episodes from this season: #2. Murray's Tale (Lisa loses Murray in the park and brings home a Murray double); #6. The Unplanned Child (Murray goes trick-or-treating as a camel); #17. Instant Karma (ill gotten blouse and the difference between taupe, beige, tan, and off-white); #18. The Tape (Jamie and Paul's very private video winds up in the wrong hands); #20. The Last Scampi (classic family disfunction between the Buchmans and Stemples); #21. Disorientation (Paul, Ira, & Lisa frantically try to register Jamie at school before she arrives for her first day). These episodes are now classics as are those in Seasons one and three. I would only recommend the first three seasons as these are the "quintesential" Mad About You. Sadly, season 4 introduces odd changes among which Jamie and Paul's relationship fails as they struggle with jobs, relationships, family, trying to conceive - thus the series takes on a weird downward spiral from there on. The producers received alot of flack from fans, especially in reference to the serious twists in season 4 where Jamie and Paul break up (was it still a comedy or now a drama?). Due to these and other changes, they lost a good part of their original audience but this did not deter them from going ahead with seasons 5 and 6, which seem to be a different sitcom altogether. I already own season #1, will buy #2 and can't wait for #3 - but there I stop.
37 Great Entertainment
This a wonderful disc. These two people are a ball to watch. The interaction between the actors is great. You really believe these people have deep feelings for each other. The episodes are well written, and the rest of the supporting cast rounds the show out nicely.
If you liked Sleepless, or You've got Mail you will enjoy Paul & Jamie.
38 One of the greatest sitcoms of all time
"Mad About You" is pure gold on DVD. The interaction between Jamie (Helen Hunt) and Paul (Paul Reiser) is one of the warmest and most pleasurable performances ever to be seen on television. They embody the ultimate TV couple. In the second season, the series finally finds its own pace. Stories are woven together, the roles of their friends and family are expanded and fleshed out. Don't miss this box set if you have any love for intelligent and funny television programming.
