If you think a gaggle of big-screen goons like Cruella, Jafar, and Captain Hook can muscle Mickey off Disney's
House of Mouse stage, guess again. Here, the leader of the pack proves he's made of more than Swiss cheese in a Halloween battle to bounce the bad guys--banded together for the first time--from the belly-laugh-generating hot spot where he pulls host duties. Best of all, the classic-character misadventures keep rolling amid the maelstrom: Donald gets the short end of the broom when a busybody witch blows in, Goofy bungles a once-in-an-afterlife time shot at being a ghost, etc. By the time the mouse houselights go up, the evil cadre's out on its cartoon ear with only a song--the showstopping "It's Our House Now!"--to its credit. The hospitality's not so hot, but the frantic, feature-length dice of shorts and devious doings will find Disney devotees dancing in the aisles.

In MICKEY'S HOUSE OF VILLAINS, the best meet the baddest when Mickey Mouse comes face-to-face with the Disney villains everyone loves to hate for a night of mischief and mayhem that is sure to leave you laughing. Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck, Pluto and Goofy have their hands full when the wicked Jafar teams up with Cruella, Hades, Ursula, Captain Hook, Maleficent and all of the other dastardly villains in a wild attempt to turn the House of Mouse into the House of Villains. These scene-stealing villains stage their showdown with a show-stopping musical number that makes MICKEY'S HOUSE OF VILLAINS a fun-filled event for the entire family. The movie features an array of classic Disney cartoons, shorts, and a raucously fun song sung by the villains entitled "It's Our House Now!"
1 Not what I was hoping for.
I'd been watching the show for a while and considered buying this movie. Then after seeing it on TV, I decided to save my money. It was okay, but I was really disappointed at the end because I was hoping to see a big showdown with the heroes and the villains. The heroes all come to the House of Mouse to relax, have a good meal, and enjoy the show; only to get kicked out by their sworn enemies. Are they gonna take that?! I certainly wouldn't have. I would've rallied the heroes together to fight the villains and make those scumsuckers pay.
2 Spooky
It is a must have for any Disney lover-especially at Halloween-the clips are short, but very cute. Recommend this one for you!!!!

4 Not what I hoped it would be from the box description
Well, the review title pretty much sums up my feelings on this DVD. While a couple of the cartoons were pretty funny, the packaging makes this seem like it'll be a movie about the villains taking over the House of Mouse, and as other reviews have mentioned, such is only an afterthought and a cool song. It's not just the packaging either--the overall marketing and the trailers shown on other Disney DVDs make the same claims as the info on the box. Let the buyer beware!
Having said that, if you're familiar with the "House of Mouse" TV series, this should come as no surprise. It's basically an extended episode of the series--in that series, there are several cartoons with a loose plot hanging them together, exactly what you get in this DVD. Still, it would've been a bit more honest of Disney to market it as what it is rather than upping the anty. Rent before you buy, that's my recommendation.
5 A definite Disney Cheapie
All of the cartoons in this DVD are Disney classics. When I was little, we had these cartoons in their original anthology form, when the Mirror-Mirror of Snow White was narrating the whole thing. We watched it faithfully every Halloween as a sort of 'tradition'. Then we grew up and kinda fell out of it, but a recent nostalgia for the days of old inspired me to get this DVD.
All of the classics remain the same; they are truly golden. BUT, the host's narration and the resulting theme thereof were very very cheap. The vocal acting was awful and the plots were not what you would expect from a Disney production. That is why it's so cheap. But if you long for the Halloween classics that you thought were lost just like I did, go ahead and get this movie; it's a good buy. If you're buying it for your children, it's not a bad buy either. Who knows? Maybe it will become their Halloween 'tradtion', just like it was for me back in the day. ^_^ And believe me, those are memories that you look back on with fondness and longing.
6 My 5-year-old loves it!
I'm not going to discuss audio or video quality, even tho I'm both an audiophile and videophile to the point of occasionally considering therapy. I buy this stuff for her. The Disney villains are at the heart of the Disney success, and they are collected together here doing their thing. You'll find no excessive violence or inappropriate messages/themes/language. It won't teach her rocket science, brain surgery, or the meaning of life, but if you're looking for another DVD to add to your collection to entertain your child in the car, at the restaurant, or at home, this one works. It makes her happy, even after 20 or 30 times through, so it makes me happy too. Enjoy the time off duty!
7 Not what it promises to be
The box description would have you believe that the plot of this "movie" is a tour de force where Mickey and the gang square off against a horde of classic Disney villains. Don't be fooled. This is merely a shorts collection with a weak framing sequence. There are three classic Disney shorts, but they aren't enough to save the show, and they will surely be available on some of the Walt Disney Treasures collections if they aren't already. The rest of the shorts are from Walt Disney Television Animation and since I recognzed one of them I would suspect that none of them were created specifically for the movie.
As for the villains, their appearance is little more than an overblown cameo. They do indeed take over the House of Mouse as promised, but they wait until around the last twenty minutes of the movie to actually do anything and it seems their intent was just to keep on showing shorts that star Mickey and the gang. Not quite what you'd expect from a gang of some of the most evil figures in cartoons.
So if you're buying this because you've been a fan of Disney villains all of your life, you're going to be disappointed. If you're buying it to distract the toddlers for seventy minutes, I'm sure it will do the trick. I just used to expect more from any animation that bore the name of Disney.
8 Not What I Expected
I expected a little more out of Disney, but with their track record lately, I don't know why I was surprised at their lack of creativity. I thought this would be more centered around the villians trying to take over the "House of Mouse", but instead it was mostly old Disney cartoons with small clips of the villians plotting a take over in between. Definately NOT a DVD worth buying. My son begged me to purchase it, but I rented instead. My daughter, who was 7 year old at the time, was terribly bored throughout the movie. The only reason I rated it with 2 stars instead of just 1 was because my 6 year old son enjoyed it, however he has expressed absolutely NO interest at all in seeing it again. If you really want to see it, go for it, but I advise you to rent it first before buying.
9 Dejavu
Personally, I havn't seen this movie yet, but plan to in the future. The reason why I'm writing this review is because it looks strangely familiar of the greatest game this century: Kingdom Hearts. For those who have played it, you'll understand why this "battle" seems way too unlikely without Sora. I give this a 5 out of 5 because I'm just dying to see how they pull themselves out of this one.
10 Not as good as it should be
Read this review before purchasing this product. When I saw the trailer for it I was very excited. The trailer had all the villains but they were shots from the original movies. I personily love the villains, lets face it there the best! I thought if it was as good as the original movies I would love it, but sad to say it does not compare to any classic disney movie. Most of the time it was just old and new cartoons that were pretty boring. My favorite villain Maleficent had only one, I repeat ONE line in the whole movie! You may like this film, or you may not. I would advise that you rent it before atcually buy it.
11 Fun for kids
This is probably more for kids...my daughter (5) loves it. It's a nice assortment of different cartoons with a Halloween theme. It's not very scary or suspenseful, though, just fun.
12 Cute, for kids
If you have a little one that watches the "House of Mouse" on Disney in the middle of the day, you know exactly what this is about. Despite the title, the focus is Halloween-related cartoon shorts featuring the classic Disney characters. Do not expect a feature film. The cartoons are the kind of Disney cartoons I remember watching as a child. My son laughs for practically the whole hour. The target audience is small children and taken in that context, it's a cute film that keeps their attention.
13 Not at all what I expected
When I got this, I expected to see one big story with interesting plot twists. Instead, it's just a bunch of Disney shorts mixed together. It doesn't focus on the whole "House of Villains" thing at all, in fact, for half of the film I'm wondering "when the heck is this thing even going to really start?". It ends with one of the dumbest battles ever. Basically, Mickey takes a lamp and [draws] Jafar into it, and all of the other villains scream and run. Hello? I'm pretty sure that all of them combined are much more dangerous than Mickey, even without Jafar. It barely even focuses on the villains at all, giving them maybe 5% of the entire screen time.
14 Uhhhhh.....NO!
It's been a LONG time since I've bought a Disney movie (after my almost 2-years of working with Disney Orlando), and my favorite characters are the villains, ESPECIALLY after seeing the Fantasmic show where the allmighty Maleficent was practically the star in the "villain take-over". When I saw HOUSE OF VILLAINS pop out of nowhere on the shelf one day, I was hesitant and waited a couple of weeks til finally giving in. I think I should have stayed with my first instinct because this was a major disappointment.
Basically all the Disney characters and villains go to the House Of Mouse (a movie theatre) on Halloween night and Micky (of course) is the emcee, and you see several Disney animated shorts related to halloween; some classic, some new. I found the classics to be fun to see as always, however, the newer shorts were utterly terrible. After nearly an hour, the villains so-called "take over" the theatre and change it into the House Of Villains, throwing Micky & the gang out, and the villains have their own private showing of a couple animated shorts (the first one is decent, the second one is repulsive). After this, Micky throws on his Fantasmic garb and battles it out with Jafar in the weakest and corniest battle between Disney good and evil that I have EVER seen. Apparently Disney wanted to turn the wonder of the live Fantasmic show into a few measley seconds of an animated adventure, toning down the violence from lion to newborn kitten. I'm sorry, but I dearly love the character of Maleficent and with this film, it doesn't do her justice. She only has one spoken line in the film, and yes, she does transform into the dragon (in a one second flash) while romping around with the other villains during the song while they are taking over the theatre, but if you know Maleficent like I know Maleficent, she wouldn't waste no time piddling around giving a sing-song, but rather explode in a fit of rage and carnage, terrorizing Micky and his gang. Yeah, it seems a little horrendous, but I thought we would finally get to see a teaming of all the villains, but this is not what it seems. Fans of the villains, beware, and stick with buying the full length classic films if you wish to see your favorite villain to their evil capacity. This film is simply for children, possibly parents, but not for villain completists. Originally I was planning on showing this at my upcoming Halloween party, but I think I will hide this in the back of my movie collection so nobody will suggest viewing this. If anything, I will play the classics GREAT PUMPKIN and JOHN CARPENTERS HALLOWEEN. Again, children will probably love this as a Halloween treat, but adults...uh, no!
15 Don't expect too many villians!
Apart from a few brief moments you won't see any of the classic villians. I am glad I got the VHS frist to check out the what I am going to see before I buy the DVD.I can tell you I feel so cheated that I am sure there won't be any Mickey's Mouse House of Villians DVD on my shelf.
16 Another "cheapie" is right!
I waited months for this DVD to come out, thinking that maybe Disney would begin to realize the demand for more villain entertainment. I was really disappointed. There were a few really old cartoons that I had not seen since I was a kid but other than that, it was really cheesy with no real story or anything inventive. They basically slapped together some old toons and put a new label on it.
17 Entertainment for ALL ages!
My kids both love the Disney show House of Mouse, so when this came out, they had to have it! They really enjoy all the stories and shorts. Though the adults will remember many of the cartoons, they only remind us of what a master Walt Disney was...and how his legecy is being carried on! Everyone will enjoy this DVD!
18 Good fun!!
My 4 yr old daughter loves this! I was worried that the "villains" theme might scare her, but it's only lighthearted fun. I don't have all the shorts that people are complaining about here, so it's a treat for me not only to have them all on one video but also it's a good prelude to Halloween next month.
19 Wonderful compilation of old and new...
Buy this, either VHS or DVD, but buy it! The theme is Halloween, and the setting is Mickey's House of Mouse, with excellent new animated shorts, very funny and beautifully rendered, and the old classic shorts, with Huey, Dewey and Louey getting back at "Unca Donald" for tricking them on Halloween, with the help of Witch Hazel and her flying broom. Then "Lonesome Ghosts" with Donald, Goofy and Mickey as the original "Ghost Busters" being called to the "Old McShiver Mansion" to rid the house of ghosts, ... Then there is one with Donald and the nephews in a big house during a thunderstorm when a gorilla breaks into their house...great stuff. In between the old classics are new and very amusing shorts with great colors and details; I so enjoyed this I bought the DVD AND the VHS. Decide for yourself, see it and then you will see what a great tape it is and how perfect for Halloween or anytime when you want a good old-fashioned scare without too much trauma! I absolutely LOVED it, and you will too.
20 Quite a Jip
What has been promoted as an all out battle between the Disney good and evil is merely a cable Halloween special with a hefty price tag. Overly laden with the old "classic" halloween cartoons that are replayed every october and new (mildly to little entertaining) strips written just for the show there is very little plot. It is true that in the beginning Mickey is in control and then Jafar kicks him out, and later they try to "out Magic" eachother in a final "battle." However the entire plot of the movie, which comes in tiny spurts in between clips, can't last any longer than 5 minutes in entirety, effiectively making it simply another cartoon. This is not a movie to waste your money on. You can see almost the same thing by flipping to the Disney channel in late October, although the cable version may be slightly more interesting.
21 Way Better Than You'd Expect
I know, straight-to-video.... But don't judge to quickly. I really enjoyed it (and more importantly so did my 4 year old). The bad guys didn't "win" long enough to be upsetting & there were tons of great disney shorts throughout. I was very hesitant to buy it, but am SO glad we did :) One note, this seems to be a Halloween movie (all the shorts deal with Halloween). Additionally, if you had problems playing the Rolie Polie Olie DVD, you may have problems with this one as well -- but you can play the movie fine if you go to the chapter selection part & just start with scene 1/opening credits (you don't miss anything & the close-captioning still works). Hope this helps -- I highly recommend this one!
22 Walt is rolling in his grave
I rented this DVD because I thought a movie where all the Disney villains get together might be interesting. Boy was I ever WRONG! Here's the story: The Disney villains go to the House of Mouse to watch movies. At midnight they kick Mickey out and watch more movies. BORING! There's absolutely NO plot. You hardly even see the villains because most of this movie is filled with past and present Disney short films. And it's very easy to tell which short is old and which is new. The old films were actually drawn well. I don't know what happened to the Disney staff between then and now. It's like all the artists forgot how to draw. All the new animation in this DVD is very cheap. The mouths never match up to the voice. This DVD is so cheap that they even stole comedy lines from "The Simpsons"! HONEST! I was expecting an epic adventure where the Disney villains get together and take over the earth or something and it's up to Mickey to stop them. Instead I get the Disney villains sitting down to watch movies. BORING! I guess if I want to see Disney characters done well I have to buy a copy of "Kingdom Hearts" for the Playstation 2. The only reason why this game wasn't screwed up is because Squarsoft made it. If you're a true Disney fan buy "Kingdom Hearts" and AVOID "Mickey's House of Villains."
23 Mixed bag here
When I saw the commercial advertising it I thought "wow, all Disney villains gathered in one movie to battle the good guys." I mean you can see Jafar socializing with Ursula and Hook. This is the problem though: There's not enough of it.
Basically, in the movie, Mickey runs like a nightclub where the theme is Halloween and he's showing animated shorts to good guy guests like Simba and Nala from Lion King and the women like Snow White, Belle to villains like the Queen of Hearts from Alice in Wonderland and Hades from Hercules. This goes on for about 45 minutes until Jafar decides to steal Mickey's house for his own and kicks Mickey, Minnie, Goofy and Donald out. Then Mickey brings a last valiant effort to take back his house. Premise is cool, right? But it's those animated shorts. All it is is animated shorts THEN this "battle" takes place, which is quite tame compared to the villain's respective movies and only lasts maybe 5 minutes. So in catching interest of this, don't get all hyped up thinking that it's an all-out war. But it'll keep yourself and your kids if you have any entertained for an hour.
24 tepid rehash of old materials.......
If you're looking for new materials, do not bother with this release. It is a loose grouping of old cartoons. While the cartoons are in themselves excellent, no new value has been added by the new animated linkages. Imagine if you would a nightclub operated by Mickey. On halloween, all of the classic villains arrive to watch cartoons. Then Mickey has a bit of a struggle and the show's ended.
I am afraid that this release is all too typical of the recent Disney animated sequels. The characters are great, the animation good, but the plots are rotten. Disney is in danger of damaging its reputation. Please, Disney. Come up with some good plots!!
25 HUGE DISASPPOINTMENT
As a fan of the great Disney villains, I eagerly looked toward this release, thinking I could see my favorites in one film. Well, WRONG! This is nothing but a series of Mickey/Donald/Goofy shorts strung together with a Halloween motif. You see the Disney villains on the front and back of the DVD cover, inside on the insert, but hardly in the movie! I don't know why the Disney folks allowed this sham to take place. If they wanted to release these Mickey, et al shorts, do it without the idea of the Disney villains. There is one scene where the villains sing a Broadway-like number, but it is too brief to be enjoyable. Maleficent, Cinderella's stepmother, etc are all relegated to just scenes where they sit in a cocktail-like sitting watching these mini-cartoons of Mickey and his friends. Knowing the likes of Maleficent, etc, they wouldn't stand for such goings-on! This is like watching Disney Animation 101 with the guise of Advanced Disney Masterpiece. AVOID!
26 Mickey's House of Villians
Villain's? Beware! It's a good thing for the adult crowd that Disney has guaranteed your satisfaction or your money back. I'm very disappointed in the program. I expected to see more villainous action instead of the sleepy new and old restored footage put together in this remarkably boring DVD and Video.
27 A Homage to the Disney Cartoons of Old
If like me, you can remember back to a time when Halloween meant not just candy and costumes, but spooky, cartoony specials on the Disney Channel, you'll be just as delighted with Disney's House of Villains as I was.
Having just made the move to college, I was disappointed at the prospect of spending my Halloween night alone, with no trick-or-treating, and even worse, none of those Disney Channel specials I was always so crazy about. I had heard about the iminent release of Disney's House of Villains, but did not know just what the DVD would be like.
Once I learned that one of my favorite classic cartoons, "Trick or Treat", was going to be presented on this DVD, I rushed out to purchase it.
I was not disappointed. House of Villains mixes the old classics with a few new cartoons that just may become classics in the years to come. And for lovers of the classics, you can't beat the enhanced color and sound of "Lonesome Ghosts" on this DVD.
This is the perfect treat (and trick) for any family collection.
28 The Most Disgusting
I cannot believe that Disney would release this mess! The movie is full of old clips from cartoons that we've seen 100 times before, and the Villains are shown for about 5 minutes throughout the whole movie. And when they show the villains, there's no magic or anything. They are running from Mickey because he has on the Sorcerer's hat. There are about 8 Halloween cartoons throughout, and they do not include any villains. They show stuff like Huey, Dewey, and Louie scaring Donald on Halloween, and I know that everyone has seen the one Halloween cartoon where the characters mentioned above meet a real witch on Halloween and she helps Donald's nephews put a spell on him. Huey, Dewey, and Louie are dressed like a devil, a ghost and a witch. I know that EVERYONE has seen that cartoon before, yet, it's the first cartoon they show on this terrible dvd. Do NOT buy it. Save your money for something worthwhile. It seems as if Disney never has good "straight to video" releases- I guess that's why they go straight to video.
29 Another cute Disney cheapie
Just like Christmas's "Snowed in At the House of Mouse," this direct-to-video 70 minute film is made up mostly of new and classic Disney cartoons (this time all with a Halloween theme), with little bits of new animation in between focusing on Mickey and pals running a toon nightclub with all the Disney characters in the audience. In this story, about five or six of the classic Disney villians decide to take over the House of Mouse, though their reign lasts only about ten minutes. All in all, it sounds cute and worth it for the nine shorts that are sprinkled throughout.
