The Microsoft IntelliMouse combines the wheel with the durable, award-winning ergonomic design of the Microsoft Mouse. The raised back of the mouse fits the palm of your hand while the curved side makes it easy to hold - whether you're right-handed or left-handed. USB connectivity offers true "plug and play" functionality and allows you to connect your mouse without having to turn off and reboot your computer. Its optical technology offers increased accuracy and performance.
1 Excellent
I used to use a traditional mouse before going optical. It would skip or not respond after a few months of normal use. With an optical mouse, I've never had these problems again, and I've had this mouse for about a year now.
I've tried this mouse on several different surfaces, and it seems to work well on almost all of them (doesn't work well on glass or mirrors). Using it on a traditional mousepad gives excellent response performance.
I don't think I will ever go back to a mechanical mouse again.
2 Microsoft IntelliLemon
First of all, this is an excellent mouse. The only better mouse for gaming is the Logitech Mouseman Wheel, and it's a close race between the two.
At least for a while.
After a month, however, the buttons on my IntelliEye mouse began to stop registering clicks and they soon stopped functioning altogether. Microsoft gladly replaced it for free, so I was okay with the whole ordeal, but unfortunately, after a few more months, the new one suddenly stopped working. I'll probably consider getting the free replacement again, but if it happens one more time, I'm probably just going to forget about it.
If you don't mind having to call and order a free replacement every few months, this mouse is a great buy. Otherwise, have a look at Logitech's line.
3 Defected MOUSE, do not buy
The IntelliMouse with IntelliEye is one of the worse Optical Mouse. I had 2 of these and both of it were defected. Sometime the mouse would stop working, move by itself, and scroll speed would go up and down. I called Microsoft and they had a back order of these because there was so many that were defected. If you want an optical mouse, get the IntelliMouse Explorer, IntelliMouse Optical, or Logitech Optical MouseMan.
4 very good!!!
This is a great mouse ,intellieye is very precise and the little wheel is such a time saver no clicking on the arrows to go up and down a page :) although sometimes i have to clean the part where the laser is because stuff still gets caught in that little hole no matter what people say.... Great mouse thou!
5 Great! No mouse pad required or moving parts!
The IntelliMouse w/ IntelliEye is excellent! It has no parts to clean and scans your computer more than a regular mouse. It also needs no mouse pad because it uses a fiber optic lens.
6 GREAT mouse
I've always been a fan of the Microsoft Intellimouse, but the optical eye takes the Intellimouse to a new level. The optical eye is extremely accurate, and the USB support makes it a cinch to set up. If you do alot of gaming like I do, you will notice the responsiveness right away. This is a great mouse I've already recommended to friends.
7 Almost Perfect.
If only everything about my PC were as reliable as the mouse. I use this one at work and a cordless Logitech one at home. Both are very good with the MS one having the edge in accuracy and reliability (no ball to get clogged with fluff). Obviously the perfect mouse would be both digital and cordless. Maybe one day, but until then this mouse is probably as good as mice get.
8 GREAT PRODUCT FOR A SUPER PRICE
This is a great mouse.I got tired of the ball mouse and its rollers geting dirty. It has far better acuracy and comfort.i highly recomend it to anyone tired of their old mouse. it is great.
9 excellent replacement mouse
I bought this mouse to replace my wheelmouse, and was very pleased with it. The "intellieye" is fast, and precise. I would highly reccommnend this mouse over a wheelmouse.
10 Great mouse for a great price
This is an excellent mouse for those of us who don't need a whole lot of extra buttons. I got it after trying a friend's wheel mouse. If you don't have a wheel mouse; get this -- I would have a hard time going back to browsing without the convenience of the wheel.
For me, the Intellieye is just icing on the cake. Occasionally the cursor jitters, but overall the control is so much better than with a regular mouse. Also, I don't have to worry about the mouse getting off the mousepad.
The contour is excellent for this righty, but you lefties may have a problem with it; I don't know.
11 Network Administrator
Awesome mouse, I can't imagine ever going back to the ball. This mouse is so precise, never needs cleaning, I would recommend this product to anyone and will.
12 The best mouse out there.
I have had this mouse since it came out and I absolutely love it. The movement is smooth and you never have to worry about cleaning gunk out of the mouse ball, it doesn't have one! I am using the cheapest of the three that are out right now, and it works fine for me, but if you feel you need the extra buttons, then you might opt for the Explorer or the Optical. This mouse is ideal for gaming because of the constant smooth movement. There is one thing that users should note. Do not use the mouse on any reflecting surface. This even goes for shiny mouse pads. I had to get rid of one mouse pad because the mouse pointer would occasionally jump around the monitor screen. Other than that very minor flaw, this mouse couldn't come with a higher recommendation.
13 Bad, frustrating!
I recieved this mouse with my Gateway computer and after about a few weaks it had a very very hard time moving! it would never go to where you wanted it to. it was very frustrating
14 Gaming using the mouse
I bought this thing a couple days ago, it currently seems to be a pretty good deal, especially as it is my first wheeled mouse on my personal computer.
I only find two things wrong with the mouse: first, the button on the right side of the mouse tends to get in my way when I hold the mouse, I find myself accidentaly pushing it by holding too tightly. Minor problem. The second is game performance. It seemed to have choppier movement than my old mouse, however this is only with one game. Also I do have a slight problem lifting the mouse high enough to clear the optical sensor and keep it from registering movement. You don't have to lift it far but in the heat of combat you tend to not lift high enough. On the whole this mouse is worth the money, especially if you are upgrading from a straight 2 button mouse.
15 Okay.
This mouse is very accurate and never requires cleaning crud from tiny moving parts. It is very easy to get used to, unlike many rumors spreading, this mouse doesn't move in mid-air (only 1/3 of an inch up, not anything to go crazy about). This mouse is perfect for internet browsing or just using your computer, but definitley not for gaming (accurate but bad handling).
16 Best mouse ever!
This is the best mouse ever made, bar none. The pointer moves so smooth and it also moves smooth on the surface. You should still use a mousepad beacuse it makes it softer and more comfortable to use. But there is really no need to have one. This mouse is great, it's not bulky and easy to use. If you buy a mouse and don't get this one then your crazy.
17 Microsoft delivers with the IntelliMouse with IntelliEye!
I was previously using the Microsoft Wheel Mouse as my primary pointing device. I read all the reviews about Microsoft's IntelliEye technology.
I finally broke down and bought the IntelliMouse with IntelliEye. I have one word for it:
INCREDIBLE!
This mouse is the perfect addition to any computer users arsenal. It's sleek, pin-point accurate, and it does work on your pant leg!
The optical eye is amazingly smooth and accurate as it glides along my desk--with no mouse pad! The contour of the mouse itself will please lefties and righties alike.
If you have the IntelliMouse or any other track-ball-based mouse and are sick of the lint, the dirt, and the grime build-up, then do not hesitate on getting this mouse. It WILL be the last mouse you buy most likely.
18 AWESOME MOUSE!
It is the coolest mouse in the world! Not only is it accurate, but I love that I know longer have to clean rollers, or be restrictedto the type of mouse pad I use!
One thing I did notice though, this mouse does have a slight learning curve, for those of us who have the habit (as most of us do) of picking up the mouse and moving it over, you'll need to learn how to do it properlly with this mouse. If you pick up the mouse and move it over when it's paralell to the mouse pad, the cursor WILL move, unlike the trackball type. You simply need to train yourself to lift the mouse and set it down on a 45 degree angle, or a little higher than usual, so the mouse doesn't think it's moving, takes about 20 minutes to master.
All in all, it's lighter, it's more accurate, it's less hassle, and it looks cool.. After all, how many of your friends have a laser (not quite) in thier mouse?
19 Simply the best product I've seen this year
I have purchased so many products this year; dual PIII 600, voodoo3 3500/TV, SB Live platinuim, US Robotics 56k ext message modem, and so many others. But among all those lovely products, I've never seen a revolutionary technology like the intelli Mouse, Microsoft again delivered a stunning product like almost all of their products. No cleaning required, smoothness, high resolution, best for gaming (especially 1st person shooter UT and Q3A). Thumbs up for MS hope for them to beat those crapy software companies that are trying to convince the world if MS is out, they are the replacement (yea right).
20 And you thought Microsoft didn't innovate.....
This is a great mouse, especially for the price. It is not only very accurate, but the movement of the cursor is very smooth (when the software is installed), like a mac. Then there is the advantage of not having to clean it or worry about a mousepad. It is great not to have to wiggle the mouse around to get the ball to move one more millimeter over. I know that Microsoft is frequently accused of being a monopolist and not innovative, but if any of their products are innovative, it is this one. I have heard of problems with the USB port so I would stick with the PS/2 (I also hear there is no loss in accuracy this way). Now if only they could make a cordless version, that would be the last mouse I would ever buy.
21 Linux Friendly!
I'd heard that these light-mice were really great on all surfaces, but (it being a microsoft product) I hadn't heard whether they work with linux. So... I took the plunge, and ordered this one without all the fancy buttons or titanium finish. Just hooked it up to my redhat machine, and it works perfectly! Tracking is smooth and easy, and it really does work on just about anything (including my forearm).
22 Good mouse, bad software
I use this mouse for my laptop, and I've got a touchpad built into the keyboard in addition to any external mouse I use. The mouse program I used before, Logitech MouseWare, worked happily with both my touchpad and a generic serial mouse, and I could configure the buttons, pointer speeds, etc, quite easily for each. Unfortunately, MouseWare didn't work recognize the new mouse, so I tried the Intellimouse software instead.
When I installed the Intellimouse software, I could control only the settings for the new mouse and not my touchpad, and I lost the ability to use the rightmost edge of my touchpad as a scrollbar (by far my favorite feature of the pad). I also do a lot of graphics work, and I noticed that while running under Intellimouse software, the new mouse pointer moved TWO pixels at a time, not just one, which irritated me horribly. So I uninstalled Intellimouse too.
Now I've got my touchpad scroll back, but I still can't configure the buttons right nor the pointer speed. The new mouse now moves one pixel at a time, like it should, and I can configure all its settings in the generic mouse control panel. I've been mostly happy since then, but it amazes me that for $49.99 I get a piece of software that won't recognize two mice.
23 Beware of software glitches
The ergonomics are great - tracks on just about any surface (including my knee) and no more cleaning the trackball and rollers. But... there are issues / incompatibilities with some software, including MS office products. Be prepared to spend some time with product support (after all, it is from Microsoft). I've also had intermittent problems using it on the USB port - once you've got it working, don't go swapping things in and out. All in all, though, I like being pad-free.
24 Installation Problems with USB Port on Win98 Computer
No need for me to repeat everything you've already read about this mouse, it is a smooth operator, doesn't get clogged, has the look and feel of a standard Microsoft mouse, and overall, it's just neat technology. But I had problems installing the mouse on my Dell I7000 laptop's USB port.
First of all, the CD that comes with the mouse is not an installation disk, it only has software that helps with settings such as button assignment, pointer speed and acceleration, etc. When I plugged the mouse into my USB port, the computer recognized the mouse with no problem and then asked for my Windows98 CD to complete the installation. That's when things went south. For some reason the installation failed to retrieve the files from my Win98 CD giving a 'file not found' error message. After many tries of removing the mouse in Device Manager and reinstalling it, it still wouldn't work. To make a long story short, I went to Microsoft's web site and found a page that listed the exact problem I was experiencing. Here it is: http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q249/4/28.ASP After following the instructions, I was up and running in minutes. I hope this helps you. (I should mention that the mouse did work fine when installed on the PS/2 port on my computer, but I wanted to use the USB port.)
The mouse works as advertised and other than the installation glitch, I am very happy with it.
25 Great device! And it look cool!
I had his mouse all day long and it is smoother than your standard mouse. I never want to go back now that I've used this mouse! Plus it looks cool in the dark!
26 Smooth and fast, no gunk, a few quirks
I have this connected to a ThinkPad 600E and overall I've had a great experience. It is smooth, fast, doesn't get gunked up and works on almost all surfaces. USB support isn't available on NT, but there is an adapter for a PS/2 port.
I've noticed that the mouse freezes from time to time and then gets going again. It could be an IRQ issue, but I never had that before...
27 Great, no more track balls
This mouse is really great. You don't have to clean a track ball and no more problem with the track ball sticking. It is also a more accurate pointing device compared to the rolling track ball.
